Before the BMW Championship at Cog Hill (in Lemont), the title sponsor presented players and media with an incredibly unique opportunity.
On Tuesday, I had the privilege of attending the BMW Driving Experience at the Autobahn Country Club in Joliet.
BMW provided a number of their latest vehicles for us to drive, and BMW American Le Mans Series race car driver Joey Hand provided driving instruction. PGA Tour pro Rickie Fowler was part of the group I drove with on Tuesday afternoon, and Hall of Fame driver Bobby Rahal was at the track as well. I drove an X5, and topped out at 114 mph.
BMW made a donation to the Evans Scholars Foundation based on the number of laps completed by racers in two groups on Tuesday.
After driving, a few of us were honored to get a private tour of Rahal's personal garage on the property, where he stores some of the incredible automobiles in his personal collection. He also stores some of his trophies at the site, including the trophies he received as the winning driver of the Indy 500 and as the winning team owner of the Indy 500.
In these photos you will see a few of the cars we were able to race. The gentleman in the light blue is Fowler. At the end, the photos from the garage are of Rahal's personal collection. The yellow Corvette was a pacecar at the Indy 500 the year he won.
