New York Giants at Chicago Bears Game Day & Night Thread

The transition to DaBearsBlog.com is underway. We will most likely remain at this location until the Redskins Game Thread a week from Sunday and then move over entirely the following day. You guys should all start heading over there next week, trying things out and sending ideas along.

Three final thoughts on Bears vs. Giants tonight:

  1. Must win for the Bears. If they lose to the 0-5 Giants their season will not be over but it will become very difficult to stay positive and mount a significant charge at the postseason. This is a game a title contender wins 30-10. This is a game a playoff contender wins 27-24. This is a game a mediocre team loses.
  2. No David Wilson means I'd be shocked if the Giants muster anything in the run department. Without the Bears respecting the run, the Giants will be forced to throw into the cover-2 shell most of the evening. I expect Major Wright and Chris Conte to get their hands on some footballs.
  3. Giants offensive line is in shambles. I'd be very surprised if Shea McClellin and Julius Peppers don't deliver solid-or-better performances. If the Giants go to a max protect look it will limit their one offensive desire: throwing deep.

Bearing down. Hey, you never know.

  • What's the late Andre the Giant doing here?

BTW, that reminds me about a story a hotel employee once told me about when Andre had to go to the toilet, but obviously couldn't fit in the washroom in the hotel room.....

  • Honestly, the Bears just can't fuck up early.

For some reason, the Bears take a while to crank up like a 1950s motorcycle.

Is this inept game planning, execution, both? Don't know, but this is the night to cure that shit.

  • As with other complaints we've made, this one again depends on the game. First three possessions:

    Cincinnati: punt, TD, punt
    Minnesota: TD, punt, TD
    Pittsburgh: FG, TD, TD
    Detroit: FG, int, TD
    New Orleans: punt, fumble, punt

In truth, not all that bad.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

The Cin game, 1st game, OK.
Vs Min it was more Hester getting us great field position, but I'll take it.
Vs Pit, we actually came out hot. Then went ice cold until the last drive.
Det and NO, not so much.

Hot and Heavy. That's how I like my O's, and porn titles.

  • The bears should win this one going away.

But who would win between this Giants team and say, I don't know....Ditka?

  • Actually they are going to win this one staying at home. Yuk Yuk. How the heck are ya Doc?

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Of course he shouldn't. Drew just created 5 generations of familial wealth. For his son to play football at any high level would make no sense.

Oh.....haha, that's every fucking idiot athlete that loses their ass.

  • There's something in the air today gents and it smells like hair burning. This is way stronger than the feeling that ran down my leg when I thought the Bears were going 19-0. He he.

The Bears are going to absolutely destroy the G-Strings tonight.

  • David Bass
    Landon Cohen
    Zach Minter

    All suiting up.

    This is fucked up.

  • I made a joke about David Bass' bizarro name being Goliath Salmon.

    That's about all I got.

I'm actually a little curious how Bass and Cohen will do.

Trestman wasn't exactly enthused to play Minter, so I don't expect to see him much.

  • Someone has to step up hard.

  • Ok, enough silly grab-assing.... here's something scientific and really interesting

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/0ap2000000260005/Eli-Cutler-too-close-to-call

  • This game is a must win. I say that because I just went through the rest of the NFCN schedule and here is how I see it playing out.

When we win this game tonight it puts us on pace to go 10-6 or
    11-5.
Lions are going to go 7-9 or 8-8 based on the rest of their schedule
Packers will go 9-7 or 10-6 with a key test being the Ravens and us.

If we lose this game we will need a wild card to get in the playoffs. Mark my words.

Luckily the NFC East and South suck cock so we'll probably get in with a 9-7 or 10-6 record.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

haha, could they have talked about the Bears any less?

  • Just musing aloud...

If we're a wild card team and have to win on the road, here's the hypothetical scenarios.

Saints and Seahawks will prob have the #1 and #2 bye.

    So that leaves #3, #4, #5, #6.

Let's say hypothetically, the Pack win the division.

    That's #3.
    #4 Skins/Cowboys

    #5 Bears
    #6 9ers

So we'd either have to travel to Greenbay or whatever NFC Least teams wins their division. Needless to say, I'd prefer the latter.

In short, if we get in as a WC, we'll almost certainly have to defeat Green Bay, Saints, Seahawks or 9ers at their house.

Murder's row for us would be having to beat GB, then Seahawks, then 9ers at their houses.

  • listened and read a lot of game breakdowns gents... we lose this one and the media shit will hit the fan.

Why does that matter... only for team moral and perception.

    We can't lose this one.

  • damn man... something in my eye again

  • The precautionary principle precludes the precautionary principle.

  • In reply to Cormonster:

Doesn't preclude the "common sense" principle, which is sorely lacking.

  • Major Wright scares me tonight fellas, I just don't trust him back there.

    annoying fucking people.

  • Marshall Faulk said Jay has thrown 1 TD and 10 INTs on Thrusday nights. Dafuq? Is that right?

And Jebus people it's Alshon JEFFREY not JEFFRIES - that's going to drive me nuts tonight.

  • In reply to Shady:

Irvin referred to him as Jeffers, if that makes you feel better.

He also compared him to Damaryius Thomas. Not sure what to believe now.

  • At least Mayock and Nessler are doing the game, I'll just have to ignore the pre and post game shows.

  • Why are people still calling him Alshon JEFFRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Live chat up over at Artoo's pad.

    http://profootballnetworks.com/2013/10/10/bears-versus-giants-live-chat/

  • Jacobs running over our secondary like a dump truck over a pack of grey squirrels and Eli passing with NO pressure...WTF happened to our defense and who the shit is coordinating this cluster fuck?

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

    Chill.

You CANNOT have your top 3 DTs and, arguably, your top defender go out and not pay a price.

Except for Carolina, the Giants have been in every game they've played.

The Bear offense has to continue to step up and score points.

  • As a rule, I have no problem with Mayock but his comment about "2 hand touch"on the flag on Cutler was just ignorant..

That is a personal foul, all day, everyday.

And Hester was down before that ball came out.

  • 80yds. 80yds. 91yds.

    Mommy, make it stop.

Yo. Mr. Parry. Fell free to call the OBVIOUS holdings.

Mr. Randle certainly did NOT give himself up. What he "gave up", was the football.

  • WHAT was Tim Jennings thinking. These Zebras COULD have flagged him for that crap on the sidelines.

  • That was a HUGE 3rd down stop.

  • I do NOT like the looks of this.

Helluva time for the Bear offense to go dormant in the 4th.

Can I get an order of "Strip-Sack with Peppers on it" for Eli, please?

  • The bears are making the Giants look good. This sucks and they could lose this game the way Jacobs rolling over them.

  • ANOTHERr hold not called inthe backgield on the Nicks catch !

  • Our defense is getting pummeled. I cannot believe this...The Giants? Really? If they can do this to us I can't wait to play the packers. The bears are NOT playing like a team going to the playoffs...No freak in way.

  • Trestman failing to kick a FG was a bad coaching decision. If not for our pick 6, we would be losing. Yup. We are not nearly as good as I had hoped.

  • Thank you Jennings...you saved us...now we need a few 1st downs and we win... I still am very surprised on how our defense is suddenly weak...very weak...especially vs. the run game.

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

What part of "Bears are down DTs #1, 2 AND 3 do you fail to grasp?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Not to mention DJ and James went out of the game.

  • Is it time for a Cutler bootleg?

  • The Bears could easily have lost this game. Thank you Tim Jennings.

  • Whew, thata too close for comfort.....Eli was on a roll there. Could have been a different game had the tight end hauled it in. I'll take it though. Jennings gets the cupie doll for the night for being in the right place at the right time.

  • Brandon Marshall is one DAMN intelligent interview.

  • Wow. Gotta agree with Al's commentary. I saw at least 3 obvious holding calls where the DLmen was collared around the neck and no call. Jennings is lucky he didn't get a 15 yarder called on him. Totally agree about being down 3 DT's but Peppers got blanked on the stat sheet again. That has to be at least the 3rd time this year. When GP was talking about getting rid of him in PS I thought it was blasphemy. Now it seems like it was the right call. Also, Chicken Dinner is beyond bad. I saw a couple of plays where they didn't even bother putting a tackle on him. Just a TE, that completely blocked him out of the play. DeCamillis should be fired at the end of the season. I know Devin isn't what he used to be but at least give him a chance. Either the blocking is shit or they aren't working together. It's pathetic. Thank goodness Cutler was on. Unless a miracle happens and the DL becomes competent, we're an 8-8 team.

Peppers looks like he's done, Chicken Dinner is hideous, the scrubs at DT are what you'd expect (no knock on them, they wouldn't be on the roster if we were healthy) and the only DLmen playing decently is playing out of position (Woot). Bowman is average at best. DJ Moore was better than Frey. Conte and Wright suck moose wang. YIKES! If we don't get healthier on that side of the ball we're in for a long 10 games (no playoffs for us). Glad we won but I have no illusions of grandeur with this team. Oh well.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Health on the defense side of the ball was an issue BEFORE tonight and it's only gotten more acute.

Williams went out with a shoulder problem.
    Anderson a back issue.

    Ow and double-ow.

    Cause for concern?
Just ask the Falcons, already in a tailspin with damaged bodies.

Alas, the Bears will not have Eli Manning serving up fresh, hot turnovers EVERY week.

Fair to say that tonight's play probably doesn't beat any of their rivals in the NFC North?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

It certainly doesn't beat the Lions or the Packers.

Banged up or not, Tucker us not the right guy for this D. I could not believe the coverage they were playing through most of the
    first hhalf.

As smart as Trestman is, he needs to stop being stupid in critical down and distance/game situation. A.) Kick the field goal. B.) Kick the field goal. C.) Stop throwing the football in 4th and 1 if you do in fact decide not to kick the field goal.
