Sunday Football Thread, or Go Bengals, Redskins, Browns!

It is never too early to start scoreboard watching. One key for the opponent in each of the division rival's games.

Green Bay at Cincinnati

  • Expect that hundred yard rushing streak for Green Bay to end at one. Bengals need to hit Aaron Rodgers and hit him early. If they don't he'll dice them like a carrot.

Detroit at Washington

  • Can the Skins start this season 0-3 and still make the playoffs? Yea. There's a chance 8-8 wins the NFC East. But Shanahan's group has been blown off the ball in both of their first halves and forced into 20+ point holes. They must find a way to limit the early damage from Stafford and Johnson and play SOME defense. If they do there's a good chance they win this game at home.

Cleveland at Minnesota

  • I can't see Cleveland winning this game. But let's be honest, I can't imagine myself watching a single second of this. Brian Hoyer is starting. So that's a thing.

If things break well this afternoon the Bears could be playing for a two-game division lead tonight.

  • First lets kick Pittsburgs sorry asses, then you may proclaim the Bears to be 3-0. We all know that's happening because our boys are going 19-0, but still, lets try not to seem too cocky. Myaaaahaa!

  • Bear Doon Lads!

I fully expect to win by at least 2 TDs tonight. Big Ben won't know what hit him.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Aye lad, Ber doon. Were gontae bash this bufty radge upsides the heed the noo. Put the malchy on 'im like. Ah thank wull win the fitbah bae aboot fahye points. alreet?

Noo, wers ma Irn Bru 'n tabs?

  • You'll fit in alright up here Irish.

  • It's his Island...

  • Woah. How the hell did I do that? Don't click on that! It's some kind of adware or who knows what. Sorry fellas.

  • and now it's gone and I look like a loon. Move along, nothing to see here.

  • Pittsburgh blows. So this is a game the Bears should win. That's just not quite enough for me today. I want to see an ass whipping on the road. Trestman's got his feet wet now and I'm expecting him to have Pittsburgh's number in most aspects of the game. I'd like to see Jay around 22/32, around 300 yds, 2 TDs, no INTs. I'd like to see Matty rush for 90+ and receive for 40 more. More importantly, I'd like to see the D get off the field. Love to see the opponents 3rd down conversion rate coming down as we inch toward playing the Fudge. Tucker needs to get that sorted out soon.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

Oh and I'd love to see more from Hester so I can join in on the Jackassery. Just not off the fence yet.

  • Sacks and pressure is what I'd like to see most out of this game, besides a win.

  • I'm simple. More points than the Steelers and no serious injuries is what I'd like to see.

Although 200+ yards from scrimmage for Matt would make me real happy, as teams would start to quake at the prospect of facing Da Offense.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

  • From what I saw of the entire Bengals game (and I do take into account it was our first game with new almost everything...

...I think the pieces for an insane D are there, we just need more snaps for everyone. I think just like the O, once we start hitting on all cylanders and all the silly mistakes get minimized, we are going to be a scary team to play.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Sorry, mean to type, cy-landers

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think Bostic will make us better when he starts. They say he's too green, but DJ has been invisible. Brian was rarely invisible. But I get that DJ is a vet, and he deserves his spot. Only thing I'm worried about at PIT is somebody important getting injured. On our team.

  • Agreed. I want to see what the Rook can do. He looked pretty good in the preseason.

  • Doood... DJ is a fucking animal, but he was injured ALL preseason. I know it looks like a lot of stopping and starting and standing around for commercials, but I can tell you that coming off not playing, playing is a BIG deal maings.

It's going to take a few weeks for him to get back up to 100%. Give the guy a chance, all he did was crack skulls his whole career

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    That's true, he's rusty. I hope.

  • The Kitties are 0-21 in Eashington, so there's that.

I will grow a vagina and then superglue it shut if Cleveland win.

Green Bay will beat the Bengals.

We will win, but not by as much as folk think. This is Ben's house ... and in Ben's house, you lock the toilet door.

  • Got that superglue handy, Irish?

  • I hope you don't go 0-3 on those predictions, Irish

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

0-5 so far. Get your bad ju-ju out before the money game. I am currently growing a vagina. Nice and tight though.

  • Since we're asking, here are my three requests for the game...

    1. A win, obviously.

    2. No injuries (except to Big Ben's Penis)

    3. An improved Bears pass rush. I'm seeking 3+ sacks to be particular.

P.S. I say give Peanut the day off. We won't need him today but we absolutely will later.

  • Hey Rabbit, you out there Rabbit?

There's a chance I may be in D.C. on October 23-25 for a conference. Will you be in town?

  • Shit yeah, maing! And my daughter will be with her mother that week, so I'm free to hop there. MB shoulda shot you my cell #; we'll figure something out!

  • Bengals up 14-0 early doors. Suck it Pack.

  • I love betting money on the Packers to win. If they win I win money, if they lose our chances of getting to the playoffs increase.

    I win either way.

  • In reply to Waffle:

I have my guts on the Bears, but 10% of the stack on a six team roll-up. Everyone is behaving except for the Packers, but yeah, a loss is good for us down the road.

  • irish, you have to bet individually to truly hedge your bets and always win...or at the very least, never lose.

    That's how i roll.

  • In reply to Waffle:

So how many teams would you bet on the day, or does it depend on the weeks matchups?

  • Who's got stats on the Pack coming back from 14pts down?

  • This Packers - Bengals game is off to a great start.

  • Couldn't get ANY links working on either vipboxsports or firstrow, but found this site :

  • Findley gotta be concussed after that.

  • Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they did, but that Bernard dude is slippery.

  • Jermichael Finley - head injury (being evaluated for concussion).

Let's put it this way. If you're trying to run off the field and you jog like you've been partying for 3 days straight you have a concussion.

  • Watching NFL redzone for the first time ever. It's TV for ADD ....

  • the GB D's are all out, to a man. 4 injuries.

  • Shields had a beautiful interception on AJ Green.

  • Fack. Hoyer looking like Montana.

  • Hoyer lighting Minny up with 2 TDs already.

  • This site is f'd up. Shows 34 comments and then when you click on that link, it refreshes to show only 20 comments. The last one I can see is Doc's asking if he's going to be in DC. The side bar with the most recent comments updates but if you click on one of them it again refreshes to show only the last 20 comments. Tried logging in and out and accessing with a different browser, no difference. It also thanks me for my comment even though I'm not logged in or commenting. Might be time to go hang out with gpldan...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

I was just about to say. Kept seeing 20 comments for a while. NFL.COM equally fkd up. Doc's comment was last, yeah.

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Same here, hence my comments below. Artoo's site is the way to go on game day. This place is horseshit.

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Yep, I got that site garbage for a while here, too.

  • Haven't seen the Pack this year, but they don't look like they can win this. We beat a good team.

  • Scratch that, the football Gods and Tall Whites are smiling on the Packers.

  • Seeing that guy was from back in the 60's, the tall whites remarks reminds me of whites only restaurants and bathrooms back in the day. I think the dude did too much angel dust at Woodstock. He must have wrote some memoirs and he decided he could cash in with a book and movie deal after coming across them 50 years later. Wasn't it W.C. Fields that said a sucker is born every day?

  • What a play by the Browns.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. I'm getting ready to walk out.

Jeff can stick his increased readership up his ass if he's willing to keep it at the expense of us regs.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

It's like this DYL. Jeff, along with the rest of us aging mongrels have more and more to do with less and less time. The older we get, the harder it is for us to spend time doing the things we should do but don't really have to. I give Jeff a pass cause let's face it, I wouldn't want to be him. Myaahaa!

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

The increased readership are CIA operatives, tall whites, NSA, Rothschild agents and short black fatties all keeping a close eye on us.

  • that made me laugh. very good sir, very good.

  • and that was meant to be a response to Tobi. Fuck this site.

  • Brings back vivid painful memories Waffle. Dull and translucent memories.

  • Cleveland, mang. I may be super-glueing my vagina shut after all. We can stream it live on Artoo's podcast.

  • Bears.

  • Packers suck cock.

  • These bullshit non penalty roughing calls have to matter which team they are called on. Quarterbacks have to know that they can't just sit back there and get clean passes off every time.

Benals got robbed. The guy didn't even touch Rodgers fucking head.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Bengal have been getting shat on all game, but 4 turovers certainly don't help.

    Dalton fucking sucks as well.

  • If this ever shows up for anyone, go here to Artoo's site to talk football.

  • Looking at the vatican bank's coffers I'd say it's a lot more than one a day, Trac!

  • Seriously, Jefe. This site sucks balls.

  • My roll was $110. Stuck $100 on the Bears -2.5 and a go-for-it 6 team $10 rollup.

But yeah, you're right. If you have the cash to back 6 teams individually or whatever, you are protecting yourself a lot better.

  • I don't get all the RGIII love - I haven't seen much of the guy, but whenever I do he's doing stupid stuff. He just ran half the length of the field, dove forward instead of sliding and fumbled the ball away.

  • The universe is telling me not to gamble.

This will be the second week in a row that I don't win money because a coach just can't kick a field goal and instead loses it on 4th and an inch.

  • In reply to Waffle:

I'm glad I wasn't following your system Waffle, I woulda been creamed. My $10 Rollup went 0-6! $100 on the Bears turns my seasonal $50 bankroll into 190. I'll stick to one banker a week, maybe a double if they stand out. I hope they keep down-playing the Bears. We're going to cream the Giants, but we'll be 5-0 by then. Or will we? The Lions are #2 in passing, and we all know about Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham. Brees has 1000+ yards already.

  • BENGALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jimmy's finest work to date.

  • Irish, the aliens will be very happy that they will have another orifice to probe after that Cleveland win.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Lol, think their lasers can cut superglue?

  • Oddly enough this site is always the same. Slow as fuck but OK. Same speed as my ancient computer and the operator. Might have to look up artoo's sunday site one of these days.

  • Well, this site very much sucks. I remember when we would have over 400 posts during the game. I did some recon and the cheese blog had over 700 posts per half with a halftime update column and a second half thread with over 783 posts.

SMH. How the mighty have fallen.

Fix it now Jeff or there will be no Da Bears Blog.

  • What's artoo's sunday site address!=?

  • fuck maningses... packers looking fucking very good again. Makes me fucking angry. Fuck them.

  • Also, is it just me or are the 9ers looking rather mortal lately? Seattle on the other hand....

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Aldon is suspended indefinitely. If we corral Kap, he will give it back to us ... and Patrick Willis went down with a groin. The Niners do not look scary. Seattle do.

  • Holy fuckstick... Cincy fucking WON??!?!?! They came back!?!?! Ho-ly-sheite. muslim!!!!

    Whoooooot woooooot!

  • No matter what happens tonight the Bears and Lions will be fighting for sole possession of first place next week.

  • this site is quickly becoming a very large disappointment.... I don't post much but i do like reading others comments. In the old days when the bears played the late game there would still be 200-300 posts by now. . The old site worked great!!!! Why do we have to deal with buggy bullshit site that appears to be coded by a one armed retarded Frenchman? There are MILLIONS of sites that have a decent comment section it cant be that HARD to do. These comment have nothing to do with your content, because i really enjoy Jeff's view point even if i dont always agree with it. It is just the shitty quality of the site.

  • In reply to bearfantillend:

I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with "quickly"...

  • I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with "quickly"...

  • dude, that was a fucking BIG hit by willis... but how is that not called H2H?!?!?! How????

Such fucking bullshit. The total and utter inconsistency makes the rule a joke. common goodell you shitbird, do something about this garbage.

  • meh, lions will implode in 1/2 their games.

From what I've seen, as long as they're not pissiing games away with stupid ass mistakes, the packers are the only ones that worry me. They are a solid team, and as much as I hate to admit it, rodgers is the best QB in the NFL, hands down. (god damn it)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Today he threw 2 picks for the first time in 41 games!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Detroit #2 in passing mang, no walkover next week with our DBs ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

He has the best receivers. Put him on the Pats and Brady on the Packers and what happens? I actually have to give Peyton some love, he looks better than ever.

  • Broncos' receivers don't exactly suck!

  • Yes. I warned MB several times that the Lions weren't gonna be pussycats this year. Sadly he wouldn't listen and he now is forced to admit I was right yet again. Someday he'll learn.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

dude, they beat the washington, late, but one TD.

washington SUCKS this year. Not. escared.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    washigton... by

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Not so much Washington, but RGIII, surprisingly. You take away his run game and he's just not very good. 3 first rounders plus change? Nah.

  • Back to 20 comments only. As Dirty Harry Callahan said "A man has got to know his limitations". That's it for me. I'll most likely stop in periodically to (at least until the 20th comment) but until this thing is fixed or moved, I'm pretty much done here. I know a while back, gpldan offered to basically give Jeff a built out site with all the bells and whistles but apparently, nothing came of it. It's really a shame Jeff can't seem to get this situation straightened out...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

A MAGNUM FORCE reference? Nice, Tobi.

    A good movie.

Even if they didn't have a glimpse of a topless, young, Suzanne Sommers.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

My only real memory of Magnum Force was David Soul (?) and a nice pair of titties.

  • guys guys guys... I have it from good authority that we'll be moving soon. Hang on for a few more weeks.

  • SF about to lose to fucking indy... at home!

  • This website is so frigging jacked up, it's ridiculous.

  • Simple. SF overrated.

  • In case you guys don't want admin approval to chat

  • "...Go Bengals, Redskins, Browns!"

    "2 out of 3 ain't bad" - Meatloaf.

  • fb_avatar

Big Mike In the house. F#^ck yeah go Bears. Packers blow.

  • I hate this crap and a pox on NBC for playing this game that the 4-Letter is now famous for.

Footrball Night in America just had Peter King come on and announce that Aldon Smith is going into rehab and won't be playing TFN.

No problem so far but they couched it in a such a way as to make it appear that King was first to break the news which whic was not at all the case. King gave it the old "I've learned that..." business. Yeah, Pete. We ALL learned it when you did about 20 minutes earlier. For me, it was while watching REDZONE.

It was old news that they should have had Dan Patrick should have just pass along when they got the word instead of using it as a vehicle using to puff up Peter King's supposed insider status (and King's puffed up quite enough already, thank yo)u.

And no, Blogafather, I am not blaming Danny for this.

  • Sigh. Another butch job on the anthem

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yeah, that was awful. Should do it more like this, sans the warbling at the very end...

  • Anyone expecting this to be a walkover should remember what happened today in Minnesota.

  • Kap lays a 4 on me in FF, really? Have they figured him out?

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

I feel bad for Artoo. I need 7 points in our league to do him in. Julius Thomas and Demaryius to play for me. He had Bryant and Cobb as his receivers, Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown combined for 53 points on the bench.

Gonna be tossin' my salad Artoo!

  • WTF!! Since when do you have to score 3 touchdowns to score 1? Screw you Pittsburgh refs...assholes!!!

  • "Trouble in River City" -
    Professor harold Hill

  • Melton down and the bears are playing to blow this game. Great...just great...

  • Is it just me or are these refs trying to fuck over the bears?

  • OH. MY. GAWD!

  • Oh YEAH. Put a little PEPPER on that for me please, waitress.

  • These NBC announcers are Unhappy Campers that the Bears are winning.
    Go Bears

  • In reply to CubsTalk:

Collinsworth has spent the last 20 minutes praising Cutler.

  • The only other Bears 1st year head coach to go 3-0 is Neill Armstrong? THAT'S a stunner. Hope things work out better for the Trestman regime.

  • And now, a word from our (very relieved) sponsor...

    The offense was meltin',
    the defense was putty,
    down goes Melton,
    but up stepped Cutty!

  • It was bad enough when they did the Peter King faux 'scoop' on the Aldon Smith situation during the pre-game, but for the producers to have Dan Patrick recap it on the post-game by saying "As our Peter King reported earlier..." is an insulting, undue claim of authorship on a story King did not break.

  • Tonight, Jay Cutler made the best QB play I've seen in almost 50 years of watching the Bears. I'm on the bandwagon for sure.

The good guys were being manhandled, badly physically abused on both sides of the ball. Losing felt certain.

Then a scramble... a slide for... wait no, an ASS KICKING by our QB.

The manhandling stopped immediately. Brandon, and then Earl (finally a chance to make the play, and well, he's Earl, so no surprise...)

Fuck yeah. Way to go Jay. Way to fucking go.

Then some silly - really, just kind of silly, TD pass from Briggs to Peppers courtesy of Rapeleberger to ice the cake...

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Great play, Jay, but PLEASE don't take on defenders with your throwing shoulder.

Oh, yeah. Lotta class at the end of the game there, Antonio Brown.

    Welcome to 0-3, you twerp.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

But Al somehow, him just flat not caring when the team *had* to have something...

Antonio Brown had an admirable (actually way better than that) game going until the cheap shot on Conte. A pity, really.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Yeah, SC but last time that cost him a busted thumb and the Bears a post-season appearance when they were the hottest thing in the NFL..

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

What did Antonio do at the end? Ah, cheap shot I see below.

He was pretty good before that -196 yards 2 TDs off 9 catches - By Halas we have a problem with our DBs.

    Peanut be slow.

    TJ be toast.

    Safeties be wack.

Now we love Peanut, but his legs need some safety help over the top.
Anyone else want to see Frey get some looks at CB or are we happy with him at nickel?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Cutty channels his inner McMahon.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Nice post, Dave. Agreed on all fronts accept the 50 yr thing. I've only been a loyal fan since the season of destiny- '85, I was 7 when they won the big one, that makes me 34 now and a fairweather fan since then as well.

  • I'm really happy for Marc Trestman right now. The man put in the work and now he's 3-0 as an NFL Head Coach.

Earl Bennett has always been my guy. The only guy that loves him like I do is Dave. That guy is what you want in a football player whether it's 5th graders or 5th year pros.

Cutler has been manning up since 2010. His effort and courage is now matched by all of the guys on the field and the coaches. they may not set records but they all care about being out there and that is special.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Damn it Johnny, I'm all over the Cutler bandwagon now. That run tonight stamped him for me as a Bear in the Butkus/Payton/Hampton mold. The decision to kick that guy's ass when the Bears *really, really* needed it was the epitome of leadership by example.

He could have slid. But fuck no. So Jay, fuck yeah.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I just wanted him to get up after that. He led with his throwing shoulder and took a helmet to helmet.

    Winning ugly is still winning!!

  • In reply to Waffle:

The whole momentum thing of that tho... I really believe the Bears would have lost without that attitude adjustment.

Oh, and as Lovie would say:

"All wins are beautiful to me."

  • In reply to SC Dave:

the old "Mo" is VERY hard to find once it's lost. Most teams don't recover.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I hated the play in live time because a season-ending shoulder injury didn't seem worth it to me. Now, after the fact, I guess he was just showing off his big brassy balls.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

He didn't slide because he doesn't have that yellow line we get to see on TV so he wasn't absolutely sure he had the first down and was afraid a slide would mark him short because they spot it wher eyou start the slide. Frankly I'm not sure a slide WOULDN't have been marked short, especially by this crew a visually impaired zebras. It was "Gutty Cutty" for sure but scary to see that hit on the old thrown' shoulder.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Funny the players we cling to. Back in the day the Dennis Bros. were my guys. McKinnon and Gentry. Then recently it was Izzy on defense. We sure miss him now.

  • Guess we'll be seeing from Zach Minter soon.

  • Also, i'm hoping that Melton's injury is one ligament and not a multiple injury. He was shown after the game in bears sweats and sunglasses. He knows he's fucked and has been crying for over an hour. Let's just hope it's a one ligament deal.

  • Pete Morelli, you STINK. OUT. LOUD.

At least THREE roughing no- calls on Cutler including an obvious crown-of-the-helmet hit!

And your crew followed your crappy lead, ignoring a runner "targeting with his helmet" downfield against Conte (supposedly a new point of emphasis and that was an OBVIOUS one), and no flag on E. Bennett's TD while the DB is TEARING Earl's jersey away!

Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could have made those calls!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

That's what always happens in Steelers games.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

No doubt in my mind the refs did all they could to keep the Bears from blowing out the Steelers. Fuck them...we won anyway.

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

    Gambler money

  • Brandon marshall's post game was cool. He made a point to talk about Earl taking a pay cut to stay and how he stepped up when the chips were down. Someone give that young man a little thank you bonus.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    Saw it.

  • 5 Turnovers, Pittsburgh?

Guess it was the Steelers vs. the Stealers tonight.

    Big Ben's 400+ passing yards.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

He had some terrible moments, I still think he's a great QB the way he stands in there and extends plays. His line doesn't help out.

  • Colts win AT the 49ers?

    Browns win AT Minnihaha?

    Who saw THAT parlay comin'?

It's trite and it's cliche' but it IS true...

"That's why they play the games."

  • Ahhhh.

ANOTHER fun week for me with NFL Audio. This week, listening to the Steelers' broadcast team call tonight's game. Tonight's game alone is worth the $29.95 it costs for the audio pass for the season.

Plus, throw in listening to Wayne Larivee call the Packer loss and Paul Allen having to do play-by-play of the ignominy of his Vikings losing to the Browns.

    A bonus week!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Was their meltdown's epic? I'm curious what it sounded like for those games

  • In reply to burntorangenavyblue:

Don't know because I haven't listened yet and it takes a while for them to get the entire broadcast ready for on line playback.

I've actually found the current Steeler broadcast crew pretty even handed when I've checked them out in other losses.

On the other hand, the Vikes' Paul Allen was BESIDE himself last week when the Bears snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Joniak is free! Do American Forces Network still broadcast on SW? That's how I listened for years. The German U.S. base broadcast and I got it that way, but due to weather conditions you'd be 4th and goal and the signal would fade out. In some ways it's better than watching the games.

  • Great win tonight-ugly, but in the end, an all heart and sweat effort by both sides of the ball.

We need to fix the safeties and corners blowing their assignments. Almost every play, they let the receivers get behind them and the corners aren't hitting them off of their routes near the los. Man up and make them work for their catches once in awhile!

Glad to see the D-line step up their game and make burger-meister pay (he looked way out of shape, seriously). However, I just know the media and "experts" are gonna just say, "Steelers are 0-3, and so the Bears have yet to prove anything". Oh well

  • In reply to burntorangenavyblue:

"Ugly", but effective. We'll worry about it if/when the NFL starts awarding style points.

  • In reply to burntorangenavyblue:

I don't think we can 'fix' the safeties, you can play or you can't. TD aside from Wright, and the INT by Conte baciially hit him in the face ... I don't like our safeties and amn't a TJ fan.

I didn't think PIT looked that bad. We put up 40 on a pretty good D, even though Cutty was only good for a TD. Dungy said he thought the BEars were for real, for what that's worth.

So are Tennessee by the way ...

  • Not to be overloioked:

Once again this season, when things started to go bad, the Bears kept their poise.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

"Poise in the noise" as Trestman put it.

  • My favorite play was Cutler blowing up Golden.
