Thanksgiving! Football! Two Picks Contest Bonuses!

A Note of Thanks.

Thanks to you all for making this another incredible year on DBB and I look forward to all of you following us as we head rogue (again) in 2012. We're working daily to build something you will all love.

The Standings

I am only including those who currently have a winning record. Anyone with a losing or .500 record needs a miracle to win the contest. If you have a losing record, keep making picks and I'll continue tracking them.

Note: As always just send me an email to jeff@dabearsblog.com and let me know if there's an error in your current status. I'll correct it in short order if you're right.

The Thanksgiving Bonus

This will be your best opportunity all season to get some bonuses and erase some negative weeks. The task is simple. Pick all three games against the spread. If you get two out of three correct, you'll be awarded one bonus week. If you get all three correct you'll be awarded two bonus weeks. You can go from having 2 losses to undefeated in one day.

The lines. Home team in CAPS.

Houston -3 DETROIT

My pick: I watched every snap of Detroit versus the Packers and Matt Stafford is playing football at a terrible level right now. Does Houston suffer the sniffles on the short week? Nope. Texans.

DALLAS -3 Washington

My pick: I don't trust Dallas to beat anyone at any time anymore. I'll take the Redskins.

New England -7 NEW YORK JETS

My pick: Everyone in the Jets organization has been ripped publicly for the last two weeks and rightly so. They are a dysfunctional, unlikable lot who've turned on each other in an almost glorious fashion. But one thing Rex Ryan has done well in New York is play Tom Brady and the Patriots. I think that continues. I'm taking Jets and the points.

If you're going to pick all three games, those picks must be in by kickoff of the opener. You may pick the latter games only. Those picks must be in by kickoff of the second game.

  • Irish, I was watching a program about meth the other day. Is it true Thailand, and Bangkok in particular, has a meth problem?

  • In reply to TheFifth:

I'm Irish on my mom's side, so I can answer this:

Yes, Thailand has a huge meth problem. And Myanmar is the source of most of Thai meth.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Tennessee has it bad. Real bad.

  • Breaking Bad?

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Jesus, it's like water over here. The Burmese knock out these little orange pills for like 50c a pop and Thailand is just drowning in the stuff - it's an absolute epidemic here. I saw a police video on the net of the scene where a dad had cut off the heads of his two sons, and then hung himself when he realised what he'd done. It's got to be the army bringing it in - they check everything coming over the border and in those areas. Sad stuff.

  • By the way, interesting Houston's only giving 3. I can't imagine that a lot of people are lining up on the Detroit side of that bet, so it feels like someone knows something...

  • I'm guessing it's because of a short week and early start time. Something seems to be wrong with Stafford's "lower chain". It could be his hips, lower back, sore asshole, or he pulled his pussy muscle. His delivery is way off.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    "Pussy pull" +1

It's like River's "shotput" throw. Inexplicable.

  • I was just wondering that. Favorites for the super bowl, but the Kitties are only three point dogs? And how the hell did JAX put up 36 points on them last week and we could only manage 6? Sanchize turns it around on the Rams too - WTF?

  • Happy Thanksgiving!

    Long live Cutty.

  • Jeff.....the Jets?! Did they/are they going to have a Thanksgiving miracle? After the blow fest that Rex Ryan gave Brady, I don't even think he believes his team can win.

  • Houston
    Washington
    New England

  • As crazy as it might sound, I think the Lions and Cowgals could upset. Lions are reeling, but teams that have been embarrassed have a way of playing tough the following week.

The Cowboys still believe they're contenders, and the Skins have been destroyed by injuries. Anyone who wants to vent about our injuries ought to take a look at the Skins IR report for the season. I can't recall a more injured team.

  • Yeah, if someone on the Lions could CATCH A GODDAM FOOTBALL, the Lions could win a game, even against the over-rated Hyooooston Tayxuuuunz. Maybe if we're lucky, Ndmgungkmkung Suh will rip Shaubs ears off, for real this time, with head still attached. Oh, how I would love to read the outraged whining in the Hyooooooston Chronicle if that were to happen. I'm not asking for any permanent injuries, Lord, or an illegal hit. Just a good hard roe-dee-oh takedown or something border-Lion like that (see what I did there, Wade?) . I'll settle for a Houston loss. But what I really want is a Chicago win. SOMETHING. GOD. Thankgiving has been so unkind.

  • Running with the dogs:

BTW, I think you should win something if you get all three wrong...

  • I'm thankful in advance for the return of a healthy Cutler. . . . and a win over the Vikes . . . . and the Packers losing in embarrassing fashion to the Giants. . . . and Aaron Rodgers leaving the game early with a ruptured Hymen.

Happy Thanksgiving Gents! Eat, drink, be merry with the family. Oh, and BEAR DOWN!!!!

  • Happy Thanksgiving, all. Eat a shit load and shit an eat load.

  • What happens if there's one or more push?

  • In reply to Michael L:

Jeff, so this question becomes pertinent now.... How are you handling the push?

(As it turns out, by my calculations, with 2 lines at -3 and 1 at -7 there was only a 51.2% chance of none of the games pushing.... Wow, a 48.8% chance of at least 1 game pushing... crazy.)

  • In reply to Michael L:

    You should be trading options...

  • NYJ +7
    WAS +3
    DET +3

  • In reply to Michael L:

Ugh, I hate that Detroit pick... I'd definitely make it (but with pain because I hate them) at +3.5, but at +3 it really makes me sick. I really don't want them to sniff winning...

  • In reply to Michael L:

Yeah, that's why I don't bet. Then I have to be "objective," and where's the fun in that? (Same reason I refuse to own any GB players in Fantasy)

It's much more fun rooting against the Lions, though I do hope Suh does to Schaub what that douche did to Cutler.

  • In reply to Michael L:

Dammit, as I worried might happen, the Texans won by 3, pushing that pick.

Yahoo set that line at 3.5 which made my DET pick there easy.

  • Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Among the things to be thankful for...

    This blog to enjoy...

Not being a Jaguars fan, or Chiefs, or Jets, etc., etc.

  • Happy Turkey Day Everyone! Canada's is the 2nd Monday of October due to the earlier harvest. Hopefully none of you get roped into the shopping madness. It should be a great day for family, filling the tank and watching football. 3 of the best things in life.

Rachal is back! Our season has been saved!

  • @DaBearsBlog--
It has begun. RT @mikecwright: Gabe Carimi has been ushered to the bench, according to multiple sources.

Ahhh, thank you Tice. No one deserved a good benching more than ol' Creampie. He should have been first on the list, or there should not have been a list.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Hey, it wouldn't be like Angelo to go out without blowing his very last first round pick, would it?

  • @seankjensen
#Bears sign G Chris Riley to the practice squad. He's 6-5, 305 pounds and played at Illinois State. A native of Wadsworth.

  • Guard? Guard? Hang out the help wanted sign for tackles.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

6'5" sounds more like a tackle that was playing guard

  • I wonder if this means they're promoting Brown from the practice squad?

  • Tice shuffling the line after 10 games into the season is not where the Bears need to be. That being said, it was needed but could hurt the Bears in the short run and help in the long run.

The movement on the oline sounds like it came from Lovie and not Tice. Emery must have said something to Lovie about how his contract is up at the end of the season.. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

  • This is why if we lost at SF, I wanted it to be an ass whooping. Change.

I'm not entirely done with Chilo, especially when our alternative is Spencer. He had one bad game against a great D. Chilo needs to go to therapy with Marshall though.

If I had my way, however, this would be my lineup.

LT Webb (who else do we got?)
LG Brown (Chilo needs to sit one game, and I don't like Spencer)
C Ed Williams (By now, he's gotta know our O)
    RG L. Louis (Solid)
RT Scott (Carimi needs to learn how to pass block)

  • You might not be done with Chilo, but the Bears are. Lovie said as much when addressing the situation.

  • Happy Turkey Day, Turkies!

Just watched "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" per my usual Thanksgiving tradition. I own the special "Those aren't pillows" edition, which has some little extras including a small tribute to John Candy. John Hughes too. Damn, hard to believe they're both dead. They were only in their 60s I think.

Truly makes one appreciate life a smidgen more.

  • The Lions just got screwed hard by the refs and Schwartz. That is so awesome.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

    Bring back the replacement refs.

  • Happy Thanksgiving, my brothers.

Def my fave holiday. Football, Family/friends, food. No religion. No patriotism. No ancient myths. I love it.

So The Detroit game was a push. How will the blogfader play that? Should be a loss for everybody, but I think he should make it a win for everybody. Else the contest is basically over for everybody. Not that I have a chance in hell, but still.

    Cheers everybody.

  • 25 days.
    Can't WAIT.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Shitcha!

    Sec 350 Row 6 Seat 17.

    Shitcha.

  • Actually the game was not a push in real life. Houston win by three, I had them with Washington ... but the spread on the HOU game was -3.5. Bookies are geniuses.

  • So basically, because me, Viva, and Crown made identical picks in Houston/Detroit (by the way, how is that scored? a push?) and New England/Jets, the big game is going on right now. If Washington wins, I'm tied with Viva. If Dallas wins, Viva & Crown both move ahead of me and are virtually untouchable.

I hate rooting for the Redskins, but it beats rooting for Dallas.

  • Happy Thanksgiving to my DBB family!

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    fight you for the wishbone!

  • I dislike the Lions as much as anybody but I see no logic in the rule that made that Forsett TD unreviewable. What does that accomplish? I don't understand why throwing a review flag on a play that will automatically be reviewed needs to draw a penalty anyway. The announcers will make sure everybody knows the HC is a dope for forgetting or not knowing the process, and leave it at that. There are way too many arcane rules in the NFL....

  • Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Looks like Suh fulfilled some of your wishes on Schaub, but I still have nothing for that douche bag.

  • Happy Turkey Day everyone!

  • The push is probably the same as loss.

The Cowboys have thrown in the towel but try to comeback every time in the fourth quarter. Why?

Damn.. I wanted to win this mothertrucker.

  • Today, I am thankful I am not a Jets fan.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

or worse, a Jets season ticket holder.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Ditto. Seeing this bloodbath, I actually feel a little better about Monday night's debacle.

  • Pats are taking it to people like they are trying to get a BCS Bowl bid.

  • I'm feeling good about being tied with Viva for the lead.

  • Oh, I really am enjoying the pain Jets fans are feeling right now. It deadens the pain from SF.

  • with 3 minutes left in the half, I'm betting the Patriots go into the lockerroom at the half up by 42.

  • First two games today were great, if sloppy.
This one - c'mon, man. I should have known better but I was hoping it would be 3-for-3.

  • OK, up by 32. Still, a royal ass-kicking.

  • Do you want to take the over or under on the Pats scoring 55 pts tonight?

  • It's safe to say the Pats will cover. I didn't think the Jets had a chance, and I was right. J-E-T-S SUCK SUCK SUCK.

Crowd chanting Tebow, then got booed by other parts of the crowd. Civil War? Memo to self. Go watch Lincoln.

  • Wow, and I thought Kid Rock was a shit-heap of a halftime show.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

NFL halftime shows are the new Vegas...where old stars embarass themselves instead of retiring with dignity.

  • I'm thankful for many things today, including playing with my kids all day.

Murph, hope your wife is doing better.
