Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears Game Notes & Thread

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears Game Notes & Thread

Final thoughts:

  • The first offensive drive is the most important offensive drive of the season. If the Bears collapse in protection and allow Cutler to be driven to the ground a time or two we could be staring down the barrel of a long final six weeks.
  • If Jared Allen gets hot early he'll stay hot. The Bears can win if Allen sacks Cutler three times but it'll be considerably easier if he doesn't.
  • The run defense has come under some scrutiny due to a bit of statistical mismanagement by the Sun-Times' Sean Jensen (and subsequently PFT). The Bears were run over by the San Francisco 49ers but they played solidly outside one drive against the Texans and dominated Chris Johnson until they took out ALL their starters in Nashville (with a thirty point lead). It is very easy to write "the Bears run defense is struggling" when Adrian Peterson is next on the schedule because AP usually gets his. One thing is certain: when AP is in the backfield, run defense is all that matters.
  • It'll be interesting to monitor the crowd today. Bears fans are an irrational lot and I could see them treating a 7-3 teams like a 3-7 team if things don't start the way they'd like.
  • Lost in the awfulness of San Francisco was Adam Podlesh having his best night punting all year. (I'm going to do pop culture here, which I rarely do, but I'm making an exception for material I believe has reached classic status.) To paraphrase the great Lou Brown of Major League, "You punted well today, Adam. If you punt well again tomorrow that's called a winning streak."

Bear down.

  • That lineup. Hilarious.

  • In reply to Shady:

Hilarious to the rest of the NFL.... not to any of us.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

They'll be fiiiiiine... Just give 'em some time to, you know, gel.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Again... damn you

  • In reply to Shady:

Could you have them lie down, officer? I can't recognize them this way.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    Lie down and beaten?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Knocked down & taunted by Aldon Smith.

  • The Bears did a decent job holding down premier pass rushers against the Cowboys and Texans. Not so much against the Niners and Packers. If they can slow down Allen like they did JJ Watt and D Ware, I think the Bears blow the Vikes out. I'm cautiously optimistic.

  • Minor league definitely classic pop culture.

  • Criminals all right. Criminally bad at their jobs.

  • Speaking of other blog pillaging... this chick looks smoking: http://www.chicagonow.com/pure-lyndsanity/2012/11/how-to-dress-for-thanksgiving-without-giving-a-but-still-look-good/

Can one of you locals pls set that up for when I come into town? I'd ask her myself but I'm not posting with my real name via Facebook thanks.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Where dafuq hav u ben?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The day after the 9'ers game I posted that if I ever meet you in person I will apologize for buying the company line about the OL. All of it was total bullshit and we're worse than ever. Besides buying into the "Tice will help out with chips and fewer 7-step drops", I thought Carimi would be a solid RT. He's worse than Webb (if that's possible). The other night we gave up 3 sacks on 3-step drops! How the fuck does that happen. Have a great vacation in the Homeland.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Yeah, wish you were right not me Canada. Welcome to my dismay.

Shady, do you read the blog anymore. Damn you. I'm in SA mate.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

This will be like Sunday Night football for you.

  • In reply to Shady:

    True story.

  • My son is here! It'll be 22 years or so before he's any help on the Oline, but he's built like an OT. Big hands, big feet, nice wingspan. He's already working on his Peanut Punch.

Over/under on Peanuts (fumbled forced by the Bears) today? 3. I think AP puts it on the ground at least once, Ponder has at least one turnover, and then ST forces a fumble.

BEAR DOWN! (a phrase heard many times in the labor & delivery room last night)

  • Congrats daddio.

  • Congrats IBNO. Hope Mama and son are doing well.

  • Well done bleed. That's three right?

  • Congrats man! Hope you are all doing well!

  • Congrats IBNO! Thank G-d for baby tackles. Hope he does you proud.

I think my wife would kick me out if I said Bear down in the delivery room...

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Luckily, it wasn't me saying "Bear down!" it was the nurses.

I did want to break into a chorus of "Bear Down, Chicago Bears," every time she said it, though. Thankfully, I resisted.

And I'm stopping at the two kids. 1 tomboy daughter and 1 bowling ball son are enough for me, thanks.

  • It's time for Cutler, Marshall and Forte to grab the offense by the balls. How about a few screens today? How about a moving picket? A commitment to the run?

Defense. Do your thing. Fly to the ball, create turnovers, score points.

  • fb_avatar

    Go block someone you co€|*€>€rs.

  • Bears.

  • MELTON starting it off right on defense.

  • In reply to Shady:

And FORTE giving the ball up on offense. Unacceptable.

  • I'm pretty sure the Bears have the worst NFL offense of all time.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Way to confirm it to me, guys.

  • Bears offense spotting the Queens an early 3 points.

Will we see Bush in the game on the 2nd series?

  • Atta way to start boys... smh

  • I can't stand to see Hester just give himself up on another return. Damn, it was a D'back and Hester just falls forward like he fucking fainted!

  • Nice play, Armando!

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Ufficio:

What the heck was that play about? I wonder if anyone picked up on the fact that A.A. gave up 10 yards of field position.

  • Can we get some tackling sleds to put up front to maybe slow down the pass rush?

  • This is just going to be one long continuation of the Monday Nightmare, isn't it?

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Leavin you with that sinking feeling isnt it?

  • At least they let Weems return that second one

  • Turnover battle even again. There you go D.

  • That's more like it. I'll stop bitching for awhile.

  • Way to turn that takeaway into 7 points. Nice catch Earl, Kellen and way to sniff the endzone Bush!

  • Yeah, baby.

  • Nice to see Bennet back in the O (and Cutler of course).

  • Touchdown Bears!

  • Amazing what Cutler can do when his receivers actually catch the ball.

  • Daryl Johnston SUCKS.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    mooooose...

  • This D deserves better.

I have never respected Cutler more than after that 9er debacle.

I concluded that he may lose against elite teams, but that he's the only reason we're even in those games behind that oline.

  • Hey Devin, watch the other receivers, its ok to fight for the extra yard.

  • Bears need to stay diciplined. Stupid penalties absolutely kill drives.

  • In reply to Shady:

Yeah, that drive had TD written all over it before the penalty. Love Jay, but he's got to cut that shit out.

  • Is anyone else getting the feeling Cutler is fed up with Tice?

  • they suck. they need a real oline and qb

  • In reply to chefted:

    Dumb

  • Robbie good as Gould.

  • Nice stiffarm and taunt by Cutler. It was worth the penalty, imo.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    I thought so too lol

  • Yeah. Somebody should have choke-slammed Aldon Smith in the SF game when he did his little dance on the Bears side of the ball.

  • Nice to see Bush getting some carries, finally.

  • No more Hester today. Not necessarily a bad thing...

  • Shit, Spencer's down.

  • Hells to the yeah.

That may have been one of the nicest drives of the season.

  • That was a bullshit interference call. About time we got one in our favor, though.

  • That was some sweet shit!

  • Love that fake conversion call!

  • Touchdown Bears!

    Two point conversion Bears!

  • Wow. Didn't see that coming, Toub.

  • Cutler to Marshall schoolground ball style leads Bushy's 2nd TD of the half.

Podlesh 2-pt conversion? OK, but. Why?

  • In reply to Shady:

Because fuck those guys, that's why!

  • Overload formation. Nice audible from the long snapper.

  • Well said.

  • That's exactly why.

  • keep the 'stach, Jay.

  • Lol. Podlesh is quick.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

I guess Toub read this blog

That play totally tells me this is a MUST win.

  • Podlesh running behind a Carimi block. The power "J" formation?

  • SCORE Conte SCORE!

  • In reply to Shady:

It looked like he wanted too, just didn't know how!

I'm sure the guys are gonna give him shit in the film room

  • OK, these are the Bears I know....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Good riddance, bizarro Bears.

  • Way to play centerfield

  • O told you guys this was gonna be a beat down.

Nothing like getting slapped in the face to wake you up

  • http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&ved=0CFUQtwIwBQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.comedycentral.com%2Fvideo-clips%2Fiuegla%2Fchappelle-s-show-true-hollywood-stories---rick-james-pt--1&ei=Qm6yUOLMHKOd2QW_lICIBw&usg=AFQjCNHSqG2ZkoaGU-Jr33x-BmiY44c8jg

  • NICE CATCH SPEATH, who knew?

  • Jason Campbell dreams of making that throw to Spaeth.

    That was a special throw

  • Cutler is throwing darts today.

  • Col Bitchin'

  • Jesus, speed it up, refs. That was a catch for td. How can they make calls at real speed if they can't watch tv fast?

  • Good old fashioned divisional romp.

  • i am unlikely to see a Bears QB with an arm like that again in my life

  • chicken sinner stunts

  • In reply to gpldan:

    that's your boy

  • In reply to Shady:

    white as the driven snow

  • Should've taken a shot at the endzone the way this half's been going.

  • That's at least two blocked FGs this year...

  • Not the way you want to end a half, but a 20 point lead pretty much takes AP out of the game.

Now we just gotta chip and cover Rudolph like I said in the preview, and we're good.

  • Payback's a bitch on that FG. Never a good idea to get someone riled up. Other than that, what a half. Hope it continues.

  • So far ,so good. Hope they keep it going.

  • davis dropped it. as usual

  • Well, somethings don't change. KD...

  • oh no. not LL

  • Injuries piling up. Not good.

  • what a nasty nasty blindisde killshot by Allen

  • In reply to gpldan:

Marve Albert said it was illegal... so it musta been.

  • Apparently the Bears don't feel the need to cover Rudolph.

  • In reply to Shady:

another team that figured out Lack cannot run

  • Hope Louis is OK. Why not take Rachal back? WTF did he do, slug Tice?

  • bear Jew a guard now.

  • Carimi taking over for LL

  • brutal

  • Bring back the replacement refs.

  • Knee was clearly down assholes.

  • There's some subtle bad juju going on...

  • Tillman, Hester, Forte, Spencer, Louis all injured. Are you kidding me?

  • Up by 18 and it still feels like Ulcer Gulch.

  • Cutler under a ton of pressure that last 3rd & 1.

  • Momentum feels like it's shifting to the Vikings....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Nah, just a shitload of bad luck and bad refs.

  • HUGE 4th down stop by the D.

  • I honestly have no idea how Marshall catches some of these balls in traffic and drops the easy ones in the end zone.

  • Nice punt by Podlesh.

  • Awww Cutler tying JWebbs' showlaces. Precious.

  • In reply to Shady:

Anything to keep 'em off their backs.

  • Crowd booing Davis..

  • The quintessential Kellen Davis....

  • Davis, you bum.

  • I'm no professional lip reader, but I think Jay just spoke for all of us there when Davis dropped yet another ball.

    "Are you fucking kidding me?!"

  • If KD makes next year's roster then pigs CAN fly....

  • fb_avatar

That is what he said. It was a great through, under pressure. Hit him in the shoulder. He's just not that good.

  • Cutler, slide bro.

  • I'm pretty sure all but maybe one or two of Cutler's incompletions today have been drops.

  • Go G-men go!

  • Ok, get everybody healed up for next week. Go Giants.....

  • Steelers had eight turnovers today. And you know you've got an NFL addiction problem if you stay up to watch Monday Night Football tomorrow: Eagles vs. Panthers....

  • Funny...I wasn't disappointed at all when I saw Hester going to the locker room...Spencer went down and I said thank God. Worried about Louis though, he's our most solid lineman, even Cutler was standing right by the trainnig table. And of course the Forte injury is worrisome...I think Tillman will be ok. So I may get booted off the blog but here goes... can it be that Louis > Hester, in the sense that he's more important to us right now? Hester hasn't done shit this year..

  • In reply to RenoBear:

No, Louis is more important, without a doubt.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

I mean, I agree with you, Louis is a bigger loss right now.

  • In reply to RenoBear:

    I felt exactly the same.

Even the commenter said "Hester with an ALLEGED concussion."

    The more accurate medical assessment

    "Pussyides"

Spencer's a chump, so no tears there.

Hopefully, Forte and Louis heal up quick though.

  • I am visiting family and watched the game at a Buffalo Wild Wings in St.Paul Minnesota.

Needless to say, I'm fucking positive someone spit in my wings...but they were still delicious.

Cutty haters can suck the head of my penis until I release into your dirty troll mouths.

    bears.

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

    +1

    Bears

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

Damn, Alary's is THE place in St. Paul to watch the Bears. Especially when they beat the Queens. That place goes nuts.

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

    Wild Wings!!

  • Seahawks.....next.

The Cutler Marshall show coming to a theatre near you..

  • fb_avatar

Back to the top. "The first offensive drive is the most important offensive drive of the season." Not. Thank God.

  • Do the Bears make that awkward call to Chilo's agent?

  • In reply to Shady:

Even if they wanted to, I don't think they could. I'm pretty sure I read that once they put him on the Reserve/Non-football Injury list, he's done for the season...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Josh Beekman?

  • In reply to Shady:

That's an option. The Jaguars would probably trade him for a low round pick....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Actually they released Josh prior to the season so YES! He's available!

  • In reply to Shady:

    Hehehe! That's funny

  • My spawn are officially Vikings-killers. 3 years ago, my daughter helped the Bears upset the Queens on their home turf, and today my newborn son helped the Bears get back to basics and beat the Queens.

I'm not happy about the injuries (though Edwin Williams did a really good job, and Bear Jew @ guard might be a way for him to get his head right & get back to kicking ass at RT), and I hope that Seattle gets a serious case of road fatigue.

  • Hats off to Carimi for holding it down at guard, and James Brown for playing well enoug at RT. This group was delt what would normally be a death blow becasue of injuries, but Jared Allen was ineffective and the group did a solid job of blocking for Jay. And how about Jamarcus Webb? Well played against Jared Allen sir. Jay Cutler was so impressed he was willing to tie Webb's shoelaces.... Or perhaps that was just Jay's fatherly instinct kicking in.

  • In reply to Shady:

Jonathan Scott got the nod at RT and did yeoman like work. Not the Godfather of Soul, Shadster.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    haha

  • I think Rodgers has the diabeetus.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Packer fans are getting a taste of what we got last Monday night. I hope Coughlin has a little Belichik in him and keeps his foot on the gas pedal...

  • Well we lost two games against two of the best teams in the league... with our backup quarterback... and the bad loss was on the road against a surprising star backup.

But we're back to form. Jennings is a ball hawk. The D-line is dangerous (look out Rodgers, we're even better than NYG). The offense showed some muscle and Cutty proved that he's a lot better than his stats.

I see us hosting the Pack with a 3 game winning streak in December. That game will decide the division. And that's a nice spot to be: the NFC North is the class of the NFL.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Disagree with our D-line even being in the same class as NYG. Hopefully those dudes will tee up on Wodgers in the second half and give him a season-ending pussy laceration, though.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

I mean, up three TDs, they'll have plenty of chances.

  • All reporting has Spencer going in tomorrow for an MRI, while Louis is out with an MCL injury.

I can't help but think this is all being bounced around the net from one erroneous source.

It seems more likely that Louis is concussed and Spencer has knee issues, not the other way around.

  • Here are my rapid fire thoughts boys (keep in mind I didn’t actually see the game, just highlights):
    • We seem a little sloppy still. Why?
    • Man our oline sucks, AND now we’re insanely thin everywhere… can you all see the shock on my face? I NEVER would have thunk it. Fuck man, not the time to be getting worse at our worstest area
    • The whole ‘glass’ moniker Sac has been trying to pin on cutty is wrong… dude, sac… you were just about 10 feet short buddy… it without a doubt belongs to Matt Forte instead. He’s ALWAYS injured and has pretty much not been good this year during the very short periods when he’s actually been on the field. We really just PAAAAID this dude? (sorry dave)
    • The D is awesome, but the dline better pick it up over the stretch maings.
    • TimmyJ!!! My boy
    • Davis… the fuck out… one good catch vs. 3 terrible misses every single fucking game is unforgivable. TE is near the top of the need list for next year
    • And by near the top of the list, I mean AFTER we pick up 4 top tier Olinemen in the draft and FA first… PLUS another 3 decent olinemen through the latter rounds and pick ups/trades/wires. Time to show us what you have emery
    • Cutty is a stud
    • BMarsh is a stud
    • Bush is a stud… and I have to say that I’m looking forward to seeing him take all the snaps to see what he can do
    • Hester is done. We need to get another returner somewhere… man, just letting manning walk for a hammy sammy and a coke is looking dumber and dumber every single year (on D AND specials). Thanks Jerry you fucking cancer of a useless fuck fuck shit fuck cunt!!!!!!
    • Hey cheesies… HA ha! Fuckwits. That game on the 16th is going to be so fucking epic… for the NFCN just like I predicted. Can’t fucking wait! Doc, how excited are you?
    • Speak of… guys… are we going to tailgate or hang at all? Locals… how about some love maings? Anyone stepping up to chaparone? Bueller? Bueller….

    • Seahawks… fucking DEAD!!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Very.

    Very fucking excited.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If you get a chance to watch the Bears last two games, you should watch them. You'll change your mind about Forte. He played hard on Monday night against SF, and he hurt himself today on a play that might have broken his back.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    hmmmmm...

  • man poor alex smith... dude gets NO R-E-S-P-E-C-T. And looks like the Kop is the real deal huh? Damn.

I actually think we might have had a better chance with Alex in last week.

Somewhere in Thailand an Irishman is smiling.

  • oh and, uhhhhhh ohhhhhhh: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000100629/article/richard-sherman-brandon-browner-face-suspensions

    Hee hee!!!

  • Chargers. Suck.

btw, did ou see Boldin fucking BLOW UP weddel? Holy shit I still have a huge #1WR man-crush on anquan. Can you imagine having BMarsh AND Boldin? Damn... and he was available for a hammy sammy 2 years ago... nice work as usual Jerry!

  • Well, lookie here...

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--jay-cutler-for-mvp--yes--he-deserves-serious-consideration-020935212.html

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I'll be the first to say Cutler is under-rated, and that he is the one man that makes this offense function (remember he scored a lot of points last year when we didn't have Marshall). But MVP talk is silly.

We won a lot of our games this year with the offense doing very little. Cutler isn't even the MVP of the Bears - and he'll be the first to admit that.

On this team, game in game out, there are three guys that have made the biggest difference. They are Briggs, Jennings and Peanut. Given the choice, I'd probably pick Peanut, but I think that it should go to whichever of the three does the most to lead in the locker room.

And with all of that, I will reiterate that Cutler is the man that makes our offense work. He is the undisputed leader of that side of the team. He is worth every penny of his salary and deserves an extension that is right in the same ballpark. But one thing he is not, is league MVP.

Now I hope he proves me wrong and wins the Superbowl by 100.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Cutler is without a doubt the MVP of the Bears. The Bears themselves know they stand little chance of winning without him. Why do you think the defense fell apart after the 49'er's took an early lead last Moday night? Game after game after game has shown them that without Cutler, their best efforts are futile.

  • btw, here's our blueprint for beating the shit out of the fudge in few weeks: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000101010/GameDay-Packers-vs-Giants-highlights

Whether we have the personnel to actually pull it off is a completely different story.

  • and since I seem to be holding this motherfucker up by myself today (tonight), here's some cutty love: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/lists/week-12-lessons-cleveland-browns-jay-cutler-atlanta-falcons-indianapolis-colts-denver-broncos-112512#tab=photo-title=Cutler+is+a+competitor&photo=31443897

  • WTF!?!?!?

    Did you guys see this?

Alshon Jeffery - KNEE - OUT
Teammate Brandon Marshall vowed to work with Jeffery, who suffered a fractured hand earlier this year, in the offseason to help him with conditioning. Marshall told reporters, "Alshon will bounce back...I think this year, I think us working together in the offseason will really help him stay a little healthier and get those bones a little stronger." (Updated 11/25/2012)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

whoops, kinda forgot the most important part:

"Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery had arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday and was listed among the team's inactives for Week 12 versus the Vikings. According to ESPN.com, Jeffery is expected to return before the end of the season, but he is likely to miss two to four weeks."

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah that's old news around here MB. If the drunken hillbilly doesn't get a fine for that cheap shot there is no justice. He left his feet and hit him in the head. Whenever they talk about defenseless players, that one qualifies. Brutal.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Ashlon out for the rest of the season is old news canada?! Fucken a man.

BTW, have I told you that I'm in love again?

Notice Cutler is all alone with two Vikings converging on him. If you look real hard, you can see Davis in the lower right corner.

  • Nice still shot of Cutler turning a (late second quarter?) sack into a short completion to (Forte?).
