Jason Campbell's Night in the City That Knows How

Jason Campbell's Night in the City That Knows How

Note: At publishing time, Jay Cutler has not been ruled out for Monday night's game. But I maintain a firm belief that we won't see Jay until next Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

UPDATE 11/16. 11:52 am CT. Jay Cutler has been ruled out Monday night against the 49ers.

When the 2011 season ended, Jason Campbell believed he would find a starting job outside Oakland in 2012. By the start of free agency he understood that to be unlikely and on the first day of the signing period inked a surprising $3.5 million contract to backup Jay Cutler for the Chicago Bears. It was a coup for new Bears GM Phil Emery; a man determined to never allow another season on the Lakefront be Hanie'd.

I imagine the conversation between Jason Campbell and his agent went something like this:

Campbell: So there's no starting jobs out there?

Agent: No.

Campbell: What's the best backup job out there?

Agent: Well, there are possibilities.

Campbell: Okay...

Agent: The Jets have Mark Sanchez but they are running an offense from the Triassic Period and their best running back is Shonn Greene.

Campbell: That doesn't sound good.

Agent: And their owner never takes his baseball cap off. Never trust a man over 50 in a baseball cap.

Campbell: What else?

Agent: The Rams are looking for a backup to Sam Bradford but you'll more than likely be mopping up losses for a four-win teams.

Campbell: No mops.

Agent: Okay.

Campbell: Is that it?

Agent: The Bears.

Campbell: Cold there...

Agent: Yea but...

Campbell: Real cold...

Agent: Only in the winter.

Campbell: I'm from Mississippi.

Agent: Yes, yes...

Campbell: Went to Auburn...

Agent: Went UNDEFEATED at Auburn one year!

Campbell: Don't remind me.

Agent: Sorry.

Campbell: Undefeated in the SEC! Undefeated in the gosh darn SEC with Cadillac and Ronnie and Carlos and Marcus McNeil and -

Agent: I know.

Campbell: It's cold in Chicago.

Agent: They are a good team. Potentially great team. But their offensive line can't pass protect and the backup quarterback is always ten seconds away from taking over a playoff run. Did you see what Caleb Hanie walked into last year?

Campbell: Who?

Agent: Caleb Hanie.

Campbell: Never heard of him.

Agent: He's the night manager at a Denver Chik-Fil-A but last year he was the backup quarterback in Chicago. Took over a 7-3 team and ran them into the ground. Imagine that were you...

Campbell: What?

Agent: Imagine you were taking over a 7-3 team.

Campbell: Yea.

Agent: Right?

Campbell: That'd be nice.

Agent: You take over that 7-3, win a couple games and you're in the playoffs. Then you showcase your talent for the league. You'll be starting again the next season.

Campbell: I like it.

Agent: Should we sign there?

Campbell: How much?

Agent: I can get them to $3.5 million.

Campbell: Not bad.

Agent: I'm good at my job.

Campbell: See if they'll throw in a coat.

Monday night is Campbell's night. Its an opportunity to peddle his wares for the whole of the league, on national television, against one of the best defenses in the sport. Campbell is not Todd Collins, an old man trying to stabilize the position. He is not Josh McCown, a journeyman trying to capitalize on a last shot at NFL success. He is not Caleb Hanie, a young quarterback trying to find a foothold in the league. Campbell is trying to prove to every GM in this nation he is worthy of being their opening day starter in September 2013. (And if he's unable to do that, he's trying to show Phil Emery he's worth a long-term extension as Cutler's backup.)

How can he do it? It won't be by flinging the ball forty yards whenever he sees Devin Hester running down the sideline. No NFL franchise will be signing Campbell this offseason to be the second coming of Dan Fouts. It will be by handing the ball to Forte and Bush 40 times. It will be by avoiding the edge rush and using his legs to extend plays/move the chains. It will be by putting together a stat line that looks something like this: 14-20, 189 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT.

Most importantly, it will be by winning - by beating the Niners and their defense in their house. If Campbell does that Monday night I would imagine folks in New Jersey, Arizona and Kansas City would take notice. I know the folks at Halas Hall will.

  • FIRST of many times before Monday that I mention how excited I am to be attending the game.

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

    Anybody else gonna be there?

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

I'll let you know. Trying to see if it's worth it.

  • Too late for me, bought the ticky's awhile back. It'll be a battle either way

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

Dude, we're getting our asses kicked on Monday night. Their backup QB is better than their starter. They have an O-line 'n stuff. We wouldn't beat them even with Cutty.

GB to cover DET by 3.5.
CIN to cover KC by 3.5.
STL to cover NYJ by 3.5.
BAL to cover Ben-less PIT by 3.5.
    Indy win with 9.5 start.

    What think ye?

  • Gb and Bal

  • god damn it Irish. for fuck sake man!

  • Irish, they gotta play the game first.

  • The Bears D will prevent an ass kicking by anyone this season with or without Cutler running the offense. If Alex Smith plays, Tim Jennings has a legitimate chance at being his number 2 receiver.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

    i approve of this message

  • Irish, stop being a pussy! When the smoke clears and Harbaugh is acting like a huge douchebag you'll know who won.

  • are you ever optimistic about anything except the Bears losing?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

How can you be optimistic about your team losing? Thinking your team is up against it with or without Cutty is pretty realistic IMHO. We were up against it last week and we put 6 points on the board. An optimist, like a pessimist sees 50% of the picture.

Homers think they're going to win every week. You do not win every week when 60% of your offensive line suck.

  • I am one lucky bastid. Headed to this game then, in a few weeks, headed to AZ to see the fam....and da bears on Dec 23 at the cards

  • It's hard to see a team go after Campbell with those stats but I could see him becoming a Charlie Batch type of backup...

If he has plans of becoming a starting quarterback somewhere else, he needs to put up 2 or 3 touchdowns.. Otherwise, he is just like Orton.

  • fb_avatar

Unless KC gets a QB in the draft, I could easily see him starting there next year.

  • In reply to Chris Odom:

The Jets or Cardinals is my bet.

  • fb_avatar

I'd think after signing an extension prior to this season that the Jets would give Sanchez at least one more season. Dunno though, it is run by Tannenbaum.

I'd imagine the Cardinals would be irresistable to Campbell, I just have a notion that Whisenhunt is going to get a QB in the draft. If he ends up there, with Fitz to throw to, then I could see him being successful.

Fun thing about this league is who the hell knows right?

  • In reply to Chris Odom:

If Jacksonville wasn't in love with Tebow, he could go there.

Yep. All comes down to money, injuries, and how can you help the team.

  • In reply to Chris Odom:

If the Jets re-sign Sanchize you'll' hear my belly laugh all the way from the land of fake smiles. Sanchez has had Holmes, Braylon, Keller, LT etc. His receivers are not the problem. His line is not the problem, he's just a step below what is required to play in the NFL. He's not smart. Neither was Terry Bradshaw, or Dan Marino, but you need SOMETHING between your ears ......

  • Jets re-signed him to a big deal before the season started.. Idk why though

  • They signed him in a big "this is our QB" statement that I don't think gets made if Rex and their current GM is there. Tremendous backfire.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

I recall there being a collective shaking of the heads over that extension when it happened.
It made ZERO sense then, so now that Sanchez sucks even worse, it has moved into the Negative Sense zone.
Rex should probably move on now before he gets relegated to D-Coordinator status somewhere else when the ship sinks.

  • We should call Kyle and offer him the same money.

  • I would love that. Love me some neckbeard

  • Nice post, Jeff.

  • I saw that Hanie dig in there. Ouch babe.

  • Hey, a Dan Fouts reference, cool. The original neckbeard ... except he had an arm and a penchant for throwing 300/400 yard games back when that meant something. Yep, the Chargers used to be good...... no, seriously ....

  • Ha! I may just be drunk but Jeff, that convo was hilarious. classic. Well done and seductively nuanced.

shady, why hath thee forsaken me?

Ben, good on ya mate. Have a blast and try not to get shanked in the parking lot, ok?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I hear ya brother, I have a knack for stayin outta trouble.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

What the fuck game are you guys playing? I was cleaning up on MW3 last night...had a 19-4-6 game on Resistance.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I think Shady's playing BlackOps.. which only looks good in the commercial that has nothing to do with the game play. I haven't liked a single one of the BO franchise.

Was out big game hunting last night. Same with tonight. Maybe sat night or sunday? I left a message for you on the last thread re: hotels. I think I'm going to get a room at the hilton on whacker (where I stayed last time I was in town)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

sorry, it's they Hyatt Regency on wacker actually. http://www.hotels.com/hotel/details.html?tab=description&hotelId=106062&arrivalDate=12-14-12&departureDate=12-17-12&rooms[0].numberOfAdults=2&validate=false&previousDateful=false&reviewOrder=date_newest_first

    Room booked. Bang! Bang!

Doc, you're welcome to stay with me, I got double queens to take care of you my man. Yes, nightly blowjobs are expected.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Oh, you fuckers...I was going to see if you still wanted to book a condo.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

common maings. I went on hotels.com. How much are you willing to spend? for 3 nights it was $440 for me. Like $129 a night. Pretty cheap maings.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I've been dropping money like crazy getting this house remodeled the last two months and I'd rather spend the money on booze and floozies.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I hear you maings, trust me, I hear you.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Get me a rollaway and I'll pay you. I'll be passed out drunk most nights anyway. You can use me as a doorstop. I won't give a shit.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

sure. fucken a, I'm not going to get any sleep. motherfuckers.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That is not in my itinerary either.
Deep dish pizza, football, and debauchery are.
When I get ahold of you on PS3 this weekend, we can hash out details.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

coolio. I'm just going to take Johnny's original advice and find a nice local who'll 'put me up' for the weekend.

Then you and doc can fart your hearts away together in my room. Disgusting boys.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Shady was supposed to put us all up for the weekend...quitter.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

We'll take turns on the rollaway.

Which one of you local's wants to hook me up with some weed when I get there?

  • I was wondering how you were going to take care of this.

I know a certain local and reg who MIGHT be able to hook you up. If he even bothers to fucking meet up with us ever. Fucking douche.

  • I'm going to the game, but won't be in Chicago until game day. Otherwise Doc I could set you up with some green crack or headbands. Top. Notch. Shit. The only way I'll miss the game is if we get a snow storm and I have to help the crews with removal.

MB and Brownie, where are your seats? My Uncle and Cousin have their seats in section 350. I'll find out the row and seat #'s later today. Doc, if your still looking for a seat, maybe wait until I get back to you tonight. Maybe there's an open seat close to us.

  • Corm, you're going to be right next door. Thirty, myself, and my brothers are all in 349....hopefully Doc finds one there too.

  • Our seats are right on the aisle with 349. Just need to find out the row.

  • We're in row 7, Corm - going to be funny if we ended up as neighbors.

  • The seats are section 350, row 21, seats 27-30. Like I said, on the aisle with section 49.

  • We're 349, row 7, seats 1-4, so we're on the aisle too. How the fuck did that happen? I know that we were basically just looking for best available seats in a particular price range - and we ended up only 16 rows away.

  • Or 14 rows...good thing I can count with the line of work I'm in.

  • So now that your done rigging voting machines for Obama, are you gonna play on the blog more often?

  • Thursday night football is fucking depressing.

  • Also, great post blogfadda, thoroughly enjoyed that, always appreciate it when you slice some humo(u)r into your articles.

Bears have no chance this week. Offense is a wreck. Bennett is invisible, Hester is a terrible, terrible receiver, our TE's suck at everything, (this is KD's year, KD this, KD that), Tice can't get a rhythm on offense because we go 3 and out too often. We go 3 and out too often, because we can't gain any yards on first down.

I love the Bears. But this offense with all the "weapons" is the same drool that we've had for the last decade.

Defense will keep it close, then it will wear out.

I hope I'm wrong. I'm also sick of night games. I believe the Bears will have a turn around and be strong for the playoffs. I believe they will figure this out somewhere on the way home.

The them on the way home will be.. "We're 7-3, same as last year, but we're healthier and getting better. Each week you learn things and you look to improve. We'll find out how Jay is on Wednesday and we'll go from there. We like Jason Campbell".

  • I'm seeing a lot of negativity here and if I was an outsider I'd think we were 4-5 or some shit like that. Continuity is lacking because we have a first time coordinator and the team is in the first year of his offense.

That means we will be inconsistent but dangerous when we need to be. No one is talking shit about the Texans but we kicked the fuck out of their offense and they've been running that shit for years. They won by a touchdown for fucks sake.

I don't think you guys realize how good the Bears are despite the offensive limitations. The offense, like Jay said, will continue to improve and by the end of the season when it matters will be ready for the playoffs.

This season has a weird vibe already where people are talking mad shit and we're 7-2 and have the division lead and are still up for the first round bye for fucks sake.

Every loss brings out the doomsday crowd. If we go 12-4 and lose 2 more games pussies will be throwing themselves off of buildings and burning jerseys in effigy......as we get a first round bye and go to the playoffs...

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

    Right on, Johnny.

But Kellen is still playing like shit no matter how we look at it. I know lots of people here don't like him, but I'd soooo much rather have Olsen than Spaeth or Davis.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    damn you dave, damn you.

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

    I'm with ya, Johnny!

The offense is frustrating, sure. But this team is 7-2 and WILL win the superbowl this year.

I match the blog's pesimissm and cynicism with deranged myopia.

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Waffle 3.0:

That's what is so frustrating. We've played two real good teams Packers and Texans. Offense can't find the f'n field in either game. Our offense is drool. Lots of reasons for it, first time coordinator, first time this, continuity, blah blah blah. But it's the same non-sense we see every year.
When will the offense win a game? That's the real question. Please don't reply that it doesn't matter because the defense is that good.

I love the Bears. Our defense is inspiring. But why do we have to make offense look so hard. Year after year after year.

  • In reply to Big Mike:

Mike, look at the stats of the "two real good teams" we played. In football, when two solid teams that are evenly matched give each other fits all game sometimes the offenses don't click. The Packers rape teams and they scored ONE offensive touchdown. The Texans average almost 30 a game and they scored ONE touchdown on us.

Why is no one crying and bemoaning the lack of offensive production for those teams? You know why deep down inside.

  • The City that Knows How... to what? Is this a reference to something?

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    how to fucking win baby!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Let's hope not. Jason Cambpell's "Night in the City that Knows How" is Monday night in SF, the city that knows how... ?

It's a nod to Chekhov, I see from Jeff's tweet. That tells me next to nothing. All I know of Chekhov comes from the movie "Cold Souls" where Paul Giamatti plays Uncle Vanya in a Chekhov play within the play.

    So we're left hanging...

  • Good Post Jeff.

Look, Campbell is a Vet and he can do the job. I was very happy when the Bears got him to back up Cutty but thought that he won't stay...someone will pick him up as a starter next year. He still has a lot to prove so as Jeff said the NFL will be watching.

If we can run Forte and Bush the way we should We'll win the game. BUT I don't think that's all our O will do this week.

I'm predicting 3 Passing TDs...it's going to happen. Trust me...the pathetic Offense we watched last Sunday night will not be the one that hits that field Monday. I got a feeling...Just wait and see.

The doomsday crowd can bite my ass...way to early for that kinda shit..

  • fb_avatar
    In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

Not doomsday. Just frustrated. Need a signature win. Last week was our best chance until 12/16. 7-2 is phenomenal. 7-3 is good. 8-2 with a win against SF on the read fixes a lot. 8-2 with a road win against SF and the offense carrying the day, would squash all negativity.

  • In reply to Big Mike:

the packers went 15-1 and went fucking nowhere last year Mike. It is all about playing your best ball at the end of the seaon, finding a way into the playoffs and winning in the post season. If you were a Giants fan last year you would have been screaming for Coughlins head along with the rest of the sheep.
The offense will look alot different with Jeffrey and Marshall out there with Bennett and Forte

  • So, speaking of Chick-Fil-A -

Is this place a big deal to anyone but Nebraskans? In college at Arizona, we had this place in the student union. With my meal plan, it was essentially free food. I think I ate it twice. Domino's? 200 times. McDonalds? 200 times. The shitty sandwich place? 200 times.

Chick-Fil-A? Twice. And the second time was just for the waffle fries.

People here in Nebraska treat it like it's the second coming of Christ... which given their staunch anti-homosexuality viewpoints, may or may not be true - depending on what you think JC thinks of the gays. Personally, I think he'd turn the other cheek.

Regardless of the company's idiotic statements, the food isn't very good. They just moved to a new building by work, and the whole fucking place has gone wild. I know some people who would drive however long it takes to get to Sioux City just for CFA.

    I don't know.

It's below average at best. I gave it another shot - sat in the drive through for 15 minutes and was treated to a soggy sandwich, soggy nuggets, and (gasp) soggy waffle fries.

There was one or two in Tucson, not in the typically lower quality student union, that I never went to. Why? It wasn't on my meal plan, and I don't like paying for shit.

I'd rather get 6 Jack in the Box (soy?) tacos for 3 bucks and call it a day.

In summation - fuck Chick-Fil-A, and if you think it's god's gift to the world (minus the gays), you're probably the kind of person I don't enjoy taking food suggestions from: "ZOMG HAVE YOU HAD IN-N-OUT BURGER, IT'S LIKE THE BEST THING EVER!" No, no it's not.

Why do heavily religionized franchises get the most cult-like followings for mediocre food? Is it holy water?

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Chik-Fil-A has pretty good service for a fast food joint, but they could learn how to salt french fries. That would be a start.

The real deal is Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Agreed. That spot is really good.

Great fries. Crispy bacon. FREE PEANUTS!

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

You know your restaurant concept is good when you don't even have to advertise and you still make $ hand over fist.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    free penis?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    That's Pringles new restaurant:

    "21 Inches"

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    With mustard. On a sandwich.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Five Guys is the best. Bar none.

  • That's what she said

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

it all sounds so great up at corporate... and with the real chefs in the test kitchen.

Unfortunately, out on the frontlines of the chicken wars, you have min wage, 100fucking% young (or barely legal) completely disinterested workers manning the anti-burger guns.

Thus, what you end up getting is 'fud' unwrapped, unfrozen, cooked, and then slapped on a tray by the walking dead of the apathetic

  • In reply to MB30SD:

So it tastes better down at HQ?

Why am I assuming that's somewhere in Arkansas?

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Give Arkansas a little credit. That's where the chickens come from.

Chik-Fil-A is headquartered in Georgia, somewhat unsurprisingly.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

While an anti-gay stance may appeal to certain demographics, my belief is that the corporate policy of not opening on Sundays goes further with the conservative Christian part of their customer base. Not that I have any numbers to back that up...

  • In reply to SC Dave:

It also creates the perception of scarcity - which drives demand.
It's both religulous and smart marketing.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

It's not open on Sundays? Wow.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    one less day of sucking?

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Had to laugh at the Sioux City reference. That was my last residence before I moved to Canada. That place makes Omaha look like NYC. When you're willing to give up a good paying job to move to another country and completely start over, you know it's not exactly home sweet home.

They have 2 monuments in town that should crack you guys up. Sergeant Charles Floyd, he was the only person on the Lewis and Clark expedition that died (of an appendicitis). The other is Chief War Eagle. Probably the worst looking steel statue ever erected. The only thing it says on the plaque is "Friend of White Man".

  • ED on Sylvy and Waddle...taken the Bears D over SF..."Better Tacklers"...

  • In reply to lobotobear:

  • btw....Bears by 3 over SF...simple.......and we "were" in the Texans Game!!! we didn't get our hats handed to us...we had the chance to win!

  • Vegas held back the line until today.

It's now 5 and a half. That means Vegas needs people to bet the Bears side of the line. They don't sit at 5.5 on a tight game unless the money flowing in is lopsided.

Bears need to play a mistake-free game to win. And so far, we're still taking the obligatory 1st quarter time out to regroup against what we see on the field. Bad.... coaching.... period.

  • Lets hope we dont see a return of captain checkdown and Campbell actually slings the ball more than 5 yards a few times. Should be a great game though, espescially for those of us living in Cali.

  • And as to my earlier point
    A) toughness is not my issue with Jay, durability is. Yes he can take pain but he breaks down each year. So instead of Mr Glass should I call him Heche en Mexico because he breaks after a few uses?
    B) Please tell me which other QB's you would predict to not play all 16 games (asside from the obvious Vick) at seasons start? Brees? Brady? Flaco? Hmmm....
My issues with Cutler remain the same... it's tough to be an elite QB if you dont play the whole season. So I count the Texans game as a missed game (we lost due in large part to missing our QB)and we'll see if Jay plays this week. I like Jay and I truly root for him to play a whole season and lead us to the promised land.

  • Al,

I'm sorry I called you a dork a week or two ago. You're not a dork. Sac is.
How 'bout some Burma Shave to kick off the weekend? Let's have it.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

Forget it, Johnny. I've been called worse by EXPERTS. Besides I actually CAN be a dork.

And now, a word from our sponsor..
The Bears slipped and fumbled to 7 and 2...
    ...and Cutler got knocked loopy.
So Campbell now will have to do...
.do we get to call him, "Soupy"?
    Burma Shave

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Nice one.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

And now its the weekend. Thanks Al.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Very nice, Albert.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Bless you, Al - it's not a real thread without our Burma Shave signs. Loved that one.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Love me some Chocolate Frosty.

  • lol... really

  • Campbell to start. No Cutler.

  • I'm not feeling lucky about Monday night. Mostly because their D is very physical. I just don't see us moving the ball on them. Not to mention we haven't won in SF since 1985.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

We ain't had a defense this good since 1985, Canada.

    Is it enough?

    We'll see.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I agree about the D. I'm hoping for the best and not expecting anything. If we win the TO battle we might win.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

We are going to beat the 49ers on Monday Night.

I REALLY hope you're right Viva.

  • In reply to Viva:

Suddenly wins over the Rams and Colts don't look so cheap...?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    No shit, Al.

    In reply to Shady:

I think the Bears offense looked better last year until Cutler went down. We moved the ball on good teams. We scored on good teams. We did it without Brandon Marshall.

What would Martz have done with Marshall? Would have been the 3rd year in the system.

  • In reply to Big Mike:

Martz was/is a tool. He was bad at his job. Hell, he was probably bad at his job in STL. He was lucky to have Bruce, Holt, Faulk, Warner, and Pace all at the same time. Those guys could probably score in any offensive scheme. There's a reason that fucker can't keep a job since those days. He got sick in St. Louis and they couldn't wait to run his ass out of town. I don't know if Tice is any better or not, but Mike Martz was awful and needed to be fired.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

I remember thinking how amazingly accurate Warner was in the 5-12 yard range that first year. Never seen anything like it before or since. Those years of squeezing the ball into tight spots in the arena league were still fresh then. As time went on, I think Warner lost some of that accuracy as he got accustomed to a bigger margin of error.

Whatever - another silly SC Dave theory inspired by perhaps one or two extra adult beverages.

  • how fucking dumb is brandon Jacobs?

This one of your boys Irish?

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

    Wow... unfortunate.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

Erm .... let's see here now ... I'm not a dolphins fan, not a Bills fan .... and I'm not a native of Rochester or indeed anywhere in NY, so I am somewhat bewildered.

  • I thought drunken blackouts and waking up in strange places was part of your checkered past. What stranger place to wake up than dead, face down, in three inches of water? Just dicking around Irish. Seems like you said you laid off the stuff a bit. Too bad this guy didn't.

  • I don't have enough room on twitter to post this idea..

Everyone has been complaining about the play calling and yada yada..

Why did Mike Martz leave? Last time I checked, our quarterback told him to fuck off. Why did Jeremy Bates, Brandon Marshall, and Mike Tice get promotion/job at Halas Hall? Someone had to be banging that drum for them...

What if Mike Tice calls a good game this week? I think he has been doing a good job for an offense in their first year. But I am beginning to wonder who is really running this offense. I think we might find out after this game. As of now, I think Cutler is running this offense and I am okay with that. However, if Tice suddenly looks like he can call a game this Monday, you have to wonder if it's Jay and not Tice.

  • fb_avatar

Great insight. Just a few posts up, I pondered how Martz would be doing with Brandon Marshall, and with Tice coaching the line. 3rd year in the offense... If I remember right, last year in week 10 we beat the piss out of a good team (chargers? ) with offense and defense.

  • Interesting 2. Guess we'll see Monday. I really hope Cutty is just checking out of bad situations and not actually calling the shots.

  • I do not know about you guys but I feel alot better at having Cambell back there than those 2 guys last year. So we are alot better off with him. He is a capable QB he's no jay cutler, but what bear fan would want to go into a game like this with one of those other two back ups last year (none). All the bears have to do is stick to what there strength is and that is running the football. Then everthing else will fall into place, play action pass blah blah blah. This is what we do best and everything goes from there. I would just wish that Mike Tice would also see that. You see Tice does not know how to call a football game man if he does , well i have not seen it. Listen Mike Tice wants so much from this offense he actually has lost sight of what we do best and how to go about doing it , he wants to be a balanced offense but i do not think he does not know were to start. Should I pass to run or should I run to pass.. Another thing get another tight end in there davis is just to inconsistant man. I like the bears this monday night just stick to the game plan. Run Forte between the tackles that will get the play action going and believe me you the passing well open up like Niagria Falls

  • We need to solidify the tailgating sitch. Johnny? Coach? Anyone else? What time are we setting up... 7A? Bloodys, beers and brats?

Can someone please step forward with a plan so that ALL the chicago breathren can meet up, even if not everyone actually goes into the game?

Jeff, are we doing something the night before as a group?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If you Google Earth Soldier Field, we usually tailgate just east of the stadium along Burnham harbor. It's only open late in the season after the harbor closes. Enter on E. Waldron. It's $50, but convenient and close to getting into the stadium. The lot opens at 8am.

Here's a photo of my crazy Bears fan uncle getting his season tickets "specially delivered" two years ago. I wish I could find the news story online. When they showed up, he's out in the yard singing the fight song.

    fucking vagina

  • Corm, glad to hear you'll be at the game. If any of your crew wants to sell one, let me know. Never was able to find the elusive fifth ticket in section 349 row 7. But I did find one loner up in row 32 of that section. I suppose, if I can't find a ticket for a seat with any of you guys, I could buy the one in row 32 to get in, and just stand in the aisle next to the guys or you.

Let me know if you have a ticket for me, cause I think I need to act fast.

Tailgating and partying for two days with you fuckers is going to be ....well....bitchin'.

  • I'll exile my middle brother to the 32nd row...
    just kidding.
Your aisle plan'll work. Like any of us will be sitting through the game anyway...
    Can't. Wait!!!

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

You should just wear dark sunglasses and I'll be your seeing eye doc.

  • I will be blind drunk so i will need your services as well.

  • Buy yo' damn ticket, maing. I'm sure 30 will be "attending to" some random chick in the luxury boxes for at least the half time show. You can steal his seat then.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I shall do my very best Rabbit. get online now maings... let's work some shit out.

  • No ticket Doc. I looked around and didn't see anything close.

  • Da Coach just had a minor stroke, time to give up those cigars.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

I'll bet he carried on eating. He'll kick the crap out of a stroke.

  • This is a bold statement but with a starting caliber qb playing for the Bears monday our chances aren't as slim as you'd think. Brandon and Alshon will make it easier on our guy Campbell. I'm predicting victory....and the stream of retarded comments about how Campbell should start over Cutler the following week.

The media will of course harp on it for ratings but everyday folk will do it because their IQ's are below 85.

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

Cutty won't be right for about a month, I wouldn't start him next week either. Baby Brandon is back? We might actually have a chance if they combine that with lots of E-rod lead-blocking for the boys, Bennett in the slot. Should be hard to mess up.

  • Irish, i see you're back on the bears kool aid meds I sent you via fed ex.
Cutler will be back next week with quick passes and lots of running.

  • If Campbell has a whale of a game, PE should extend his contract. (Think trade bait.)

  • In reply to Viva:

Honestly, if Campbell would take it i'd extend him and keep him as a backup. A competitor like Campbell wants to be a starter again though so that will be tough.

  • Doc, section 350 row 6 and 12, single tickets for 250.00

  • know what game I'm watching right now... Yale Harvard.

My one biggest regret was not applying myself more and trying to play ball for either yale or harvard. Damn it.

  • Here's a meaningless but ominous-looking stat (you're welcome):
    Chicago's last game at SF
    Chicago's last game:

    8:20 PM ET, November 12, 2009
    Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA
    Coverage NBC

    8:20 PM ET, November 11, 2012
    Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
    Coverage NBC

The loss at SF was the Bears second in a 1-7 streak :^0

  • Murph. Are going to the game with us or just hanging with us?

    Waffle? You?

  • coach? NB? 505? who else?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Do you guys have tailgating plans? Renting or using a van? Meeting up with some other tailgaters?

  • In reply to TheFifth:

We just want to do whatever will maximize our interactions with the following:

    a) Our fellow DBB brethren (I'd like to meet and/or party with as many of you as I can)
    b) A true Soldier Field tailgating experience (like with someone who knows how the fuck to do it right)
    c) Fine bitches (I can look if I don't touch, right?).

So if you can facilitate such an experience, we're your huckleberries.

I don't know the layout of Chi with regards to Soldier Fields proximity to our hotel and shit, but I'm guessing we'll be walking/bussing/cabbing to the game. Personally, I'd like to walk. I want to take in the sights and sounds of Chicago on gameday. I want to talk with fellow fans in the street. I want to help pummel some shit talking Packer fan with a gang of local's. I want to smoke a spliff with Da Coach.

Honesty though, I could give a fuck less about all the drinking and partying that MB and Posse want to do. I'll hang with em but my drinking days are basically over. Alcohol just makes me feel like shit. But I'm seriously getting downright giddy over the prospects of living the Chicago experience on Packer weekend. It really does feel like a pilgrimage to Mecca for me.

Game time in 4 weeks. Holy shit this is going to be epic.

  • I have the same goal as last time. Pillaging the other tribe's womens. Making them sing our fight songs at the height of passion and making them think of the Bears and their time in Chicago every single time they watch a bears/packers game for the rest of their lives.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

ok, in all seriousness... what Doc said.
