Houston Texans at Chicago Bears Game Thread

Houston Texans at Chicago Bears Game Thread

Above is the official prime time game thread picture: Cowbear.

Three final thoughts as the Texans come to town:

  • The Bears can conceivably have this game wrecked by their inability to contain J.J. Watt and the Texans pass rush. Tonight is the kind of night where Mike Tice has to hunker down and give Matt Forte 30-35 touches. Force the run game. Use screens to keep the linebackers honest. Quick tosses outside to Hester and Marshall on first down to keep out of thirds and long. Be clever tonight, Mike.
  • One or two plays can dramatically alter the outcome tonight and that means special teams must be special. Dave Toub's group has been coming along in recent weeks but if the Bears are to win the field position battle Adam Podlesh must be better than he's been all year. (He's been among the bottom third statistical punters this year.)
  • Health status of Owen Daniels is a huge factor. If he doesn't play the Bears have a significant advantage. If he plays and is limited the Bears have a significant advantage. If he's ready to go the Bears have a matchup nightmare on their hands.

Bear down.

  • First to say special teams makes the difference tonight.

    Bear down gentleman.

  • In reply to Shady:

Make that the first commenter, anyway. Totally agree on all three bullet points 'fader. Don't allow Watt to completely wreck the night. He'll have his moments, but limit the damage. Protect Cutler and protect the football. The Texans love the play action but the Bears can limit the damage by containing Foster and staying diciplined in the secondary. Gusts of wind up to 50 tonight so ground and pound will likely be the gameplan for both offenses. When the Bears decide to let it fly, get the ball in hands of their WRs early.

  • did I see Irish' favorite QB Alex Smith has a concussion?

    *sniff*

  • "The Bears can conceivably have this game wrecked by their inability to contain J.J. Watt and the Texans pass rush."

Oh, you mean out oline could possibly be the weakest link?!?!?!? Nooooooo waaaaaaaaay. Seriously?!

  • wow rams, just wow.

Talk about snatching the loss from the jaws of victory.

It's good... rather have them come into our game with their back up QB and a stomach full of emotional 'thank god we pulled that one out at home last week'. If they would have lost they'd have been PIIIIIIISSED.

btw, if I see another fucking commercial with the terrible two years ago SB packers I'll puke, I mean, it's been over for two years. Please stop the pain.

  • Owen Daniels is out.

  • Nice!

  • *SNIFF*

  • Bears.

  • My prediction:

    PAIN

  • common 9ers, win this one.

  • btw, so awesome how fucking terrible the lions are again. Karma's a bitch clowns.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

A real heartbreaker. Some dipshit Kitties fan was talking smack last week saying they would run the table. Uh, no.

  • Alright, return of the midnight cowbear! good evening mojo.

Rams taking 9ers to OT. I think the 9er Lututi got dinged up as well as Smith.

Hope it goes to triple OT and ends in a tie.

  • Nice call.

  • Three times have been screwed by teams that should have destroyed the teams they were playing.

    Any.Given.Sunday..

    Beardown.

  • Jeff congrats on the new site. Can't wait.

  • Stupid Rams tight end. What a dumbass. Ackers missed...bummer...

  • Unbelievable, Rams with stupid fucking penalties.....

  • As for Kaepernick playing against the Bears, I'd rather the Bears face Smith.I saw Kap play all four years here in Reno, the kid is good. He has the intangibles that make quarterbacks win football games. Elusive speed too. That being said, the Bears defense will be a brutal test for his first start and i foresee the Bears forcing him into many mistakes.. I think the Bears D will take advantage of his inexperience.

    BEAR DOWN

  • In reply to RenoBear:

The Bears usually do a good job on running QB's.

  • In reply to RenoBear:

That kid is fast as hell; great fit as a backup for the 49ers. But of course, testing that speed versus a guy like Pep or McClellin on the edge could land him on IR.

  • On the lighter side, I was watching Talk Soup (I know, I know) and they had a clip from one of those morning shows that wish people happy B-days. They wished Dawn Kiebals (Donkey Balls) a happy B-day. I'm 60 going on 13. That shit kills me.

  • Gonna be a messy night tonite. Winds seemed to have died down a lot out to the SW of Chicago...not sure how Soldiers Field is

  • I'm out til half time. Play nice everyone!

  • I'm already sick of Collinsworth.

  • Oh YEAH, Faith Hill ! You lucky dog, Tim McGraw,

  • I am ready for some football - Bear Down, bitches!

  • O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
    Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

  • OK, THIS reasoning RARELY proves out but...

Both teams have 1 loss - to the Packers.

The Bears lost IN Green Bay, on a short week, basically on a trick play in a game that was in doubt into the 4th quarter.

    On the other hand...

The Texans lost AT HOME and that game was basically over before the seats got warm.

    Just sayin'.

BTW, Ron Jaworski picked the texans and predict they will "bait" Jay cutler into 2 interceptions.

As usual I'm VERY nervous and will absolutely HATE IT if "Jaws" proves clairvoyant.

  • Sad note: There are no longer any surviving veterans of WWI.

Thank you all. Rest in peace.

  • FUMBLE!

  • Awww. That'll be reversed.

  • Holy shit.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I'm going to pause the game, start painting again and see if they force another one.

  • Hang on...Here we go, boys and girls...

  • C'mon Kellen. Gotta hang onto it bro. Danieal Manning HUGE play for Houston.

  • In reply to Shady:

That INT should have come back for illegal contact on Davis. More Zebra dung on the field.

  • Hester still giving teams fear boners.

  • Chckenshits are going to squib kick all night.

  • Ugh turnovers. Gonna need a defensive TD soon...

  • Eff me in the A.

  • Fuck yeah, atta boy Timmy!

    Make 'em pay offense!

  • Hell, Davis barely had that thing secured and Manning knocked it out with his helmet. Hang on to the ball guy's.

  • OK. That's the direction turnovers are supposed to go.

  • Danieal Manning killing his old team. Why did we let him go again?

    Dafuq Cutler?

  • Three possessions, three turnovers. At least we're moving the ball, I guess.

  • WTF.......

  • Tim Jennings. AGAIN!

  • three turnovers in 3 posessions..Ok, I'll just shut up and watch the game.

  • I fucking hate that "blown dead" shit. The NFL will never properly discipline refs who fuck up.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Agreed. If the play is close just let the play play out.

  • In reply to Shady:

They should have something better than a whistle to signal the play is dead. Nobody really knows half the time.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    How about a gun?

  • wow, 3-3 in the second quarter. Who'da thunk the score would be so high with two powerhouse defenses playing each other?

  • How is that NOT PI Collinsworth? Tool.

  • What the f was that s Podlesh?

  • So grabbing a guy's arm and spinning him while he's going up for the catch is no longer interference in the NFL? Good to know.

  • Jay, Devin Hester cannot catch. Throw it elsewhere!

  • Crap....3 and out. Got to give the defense some rest man.

  • How's skunk supposed to catch the ball when on of his hands is being hooked?

  • PISS on these Zebras! THAT was P.I.

RAY CHARLES could have seen it!

  • Need some Peanut magic.

  • Bears currently getting GASHED by the run game.

  • Wow, getting gashed this drive.

  • Hey Coach, that Texan oline look like Dog shit?

    Notice our own running lanes?

  • No, I don't notice any.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

    Exactly my point.

  • OK, too much gash.
    Never thought I'd say that.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Forte needs to start gashing, why the hell are the Bears trying to throw it deep instead of running the football?

  • In reply to Shady:

No respect for the Texans secondary, I guess.........and wow, Jay, just got pummeled on that pass.

  • Bears are falling right into Houston's game plan. This is sad and I'm pissed off.

  • Wow. The Texans are scared shitless of Devin. That was a terrible squib.

  • That's actually an incredible play by JT Thomas.

  • Wat to go JT Thomas making the pussies pay for a squib kick.

  • This offense is so fucked.

  • Brilliant bailout of themselves by the officials there....

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    "Uh, forget that happened folks..."

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Yep.

  • Bad Mojo tonight for the Bears. I hope they can overcome it.....

  • That's a legal goddamn forward pass.

  • I really just hope Jay wasn't concussed on that hit. That's my only concern.

  • They're not going to overturn an illegal forward pass call as close as this one.

  • Dude got scmhucked.

  • Oh, horseshit, horseshit, horseshit...confirmed? Horseshit. I could buy the "stands"...but confirmed is horseshit.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    I know, right?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Big lie principle at work.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Where are the guide dogs for these zebras?

  • Dude. Cutler. Slide bro.

  • Jay is one tough motherf0cker.
    I love that guy.

  • Yup MJD, Cutler's a real pussy, aint he?

  • Fuuuuuuuuuuuck me.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Nice tackle by B-Marsh there....but this shit got old two turnovers ago.

  • SSiiiigggghhhh......

  • Why is Davis still in.

  • if Kellen Davis is around next year....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

If Kellen Davis is around next week...

  • Have any of those passes to Hester EVER worked?

  • Kellen - you are officially on the shit list. Drop, fumble, get knocked off your route by a fucking tiny dude leading to a pick....

    Sigh.

  • HALFTIME ADJUSTMENTS:

    Snickers bar.
    Run the ball.
    Catch the ball.
    Hang onto the ball.
    Stop the run.
    Schaub dead.

  • Wow. At least Olsen can catch. He got about 100 yds today for Cam.

If you can't block, and you can't catch, wtf good are you as a TE Davis!?

  • Does Tim Jennings have more catches than Kellen Davis? I

  • Three thoughts.
    1. No need to spike it, just throw it to KD.
    2. Fucking STOP throwing it the fuck to Hester, for fuck's sake. Fuck.
    3. Where is Earl? I didn't look at the injury report, is he out, or are we just stupid?

  • In reply to BACON:

Bennet is still in, afaik. Shea McClellin is out with a concussion. Has been for awhile.

  • Who went out concussed for the Bears?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    McClellin

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    McClellan.

  • Like I said in my game preview, Cutler's legs are gonna be pivotal. It's a good way to slow down the pass rush.

They're gonna be playing all sorts of coverages on Marshall, Bennett, Hester and Fucken Davis need to step up!

On D we gotta shore up that stretch run play. It's only a matter of time b4 the Texans do a bootleg bomb off of it. Only reason it hasn't happened already is because of the weather.

We need to get this shit sorted out!

  • Don't know who the official DBB statistician is but I'll bet the Bears never won a game going into the 3rd quarter down by 7 with four turnovers...

  • Halftime analysis. O-line has done good job of protection. Rachal impressive. I think the bears will need to win via the air. TE Davis proving he needs to be dropped. Only down 7 with 4 turnovers and giving up 100 to foster. We can turn this around. Go Bears.

  • Lovie should cut Davis at half time. We've gotten fucked on a bunch of calls and everything that could go against us has. We're only down by one score. Let's get going. Don't play Davis or Hester (at WR) in the second half. FUCK!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Agreed on Davis and Hester. I forgot to mention Roach, he needs to step up too on D.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

It just keeps getting better and better....

  • Hester is playing like a #1 wideout. Isn't that what Lovie has told us the last 4 pre-seasons?

    Fuck that.

  • OL doing pretty good and Cutler STILL getting his ass kicked. Let's hope the real Chicago Bears come out for the 2nd, shitty OL and all.

  • Sorry TNF, after that Colts-Jags debacle, I'm not watching the shitty Bills vs the shitty Dolphins...

Oh shit, now Jay is concussed and out.
    Fuck.
    Fuck.
    Fuck.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Wait, Caleb is not on our roster.
    We may be OK.

  • Jay Cutler. Is DOWN right now. smh Campbell vs. Kapernick next week.

  • ah, fuck. Campbell time.

Well, can't be worse than 36 yds passing, right?

  • Well, at least with Cambell in, they'll be running more....

  • Davis. Please, at least BLOCK!

  • Ten free blow jobs for Phil Emery if Campbell wins this for us.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Better check with Blitzkrieg's pimp first.

  • And Spaeth with his one catch for 0 yards for the game.

  • Come on Hester.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    Eh.

  • Devin. Do it.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Not that. The thing where you actually, you know, run north and south.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Not to make excuses (I am) but the blocking has been non-existent.

  • Hester is the.most frustrating player of all time.

  • Need some points here...

  • Guess we'll have to get it from the D...

  • 3 and out O...must be demoralizing to our D.

  • If we win it'll be UGLY less Campbell warms up quick.

  • "Ball handler"?
    Really.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    lol, yeah - wtf

  • In reply to duhbear:

    Al Michaels has issues.

  • Hester's gonna do it for us this time.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Next time, I meant. This time, Houston's punter is going to shank it.

  • Hayden !!! Muffed kick !! Muffed puss!!!!

  • Alright, short field - let's make something of this...

  • Call me a quitter but If they can't get something out of this than I'm off to bed...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Quitter.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    With our D? Quitter

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Lotta football left. Hang in there...

  • In reply to duhbear:

FG counts so I'm still in...

  • Are you not entertained?!?

  • THAT'S MY BOY BLUE!

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Run a goddamn fake at this point. Why not.

  • My God, Marshall is amazing... I just can't believe how good he is?!

  • Would like to have seen a screen there...

  • In reply to duhbear:

Or Bush running the football. Or throwing it to Marshall. Either one.

  • We'd rather settle for 3 than throw the ball to Kellen Davis on a rainy night...

  • Can we get Martz back to be our Forte Pass coordinator?

  • Coming back?

  • You guys see that Martin run that kick straight back as fast as he could? Looked like old Hester.

  • In reply to Johnnywad:

    Helped by that hold.

  • In reply to duhbear:

The hold made him run fast up field?

  • FKKKKKKK!!!!

  • In reply to duhbear:

    Absolute killer 3rd down conversion.

  • Conte has been playing poorly in the box.

  • In reply to Shady:

    yup, looks bad there

  • Gotta say, Jay going down aside - this is what I pretty much expected. Close game...

  • In reply to duhbear:

If you expected THIS, you're psychic.

  • Conte needs to fucking wrap up

  • In reply to Crown:

    ^^^

  • Lets watch the seams here on a big 3rd down

  • MELTON!!!

  • 12-10 win is acceptable. Would rather get 7 here though.

  • Bush making up for the fumble.

  • Omg, I think I saw Davis make a block.

  • E Rod is laying pipe on blocks

  • Looks like the rain is clearing up, the Texans pass game is something to watch for - we're gonna need 7 at some point tonight.

  • Fuck me Robbie. C'mon man.

  • WTF? No interference on Marshall? Then Gould misses. W.T.F.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Second thought, I was too busy spazing to see how far Marshall was from the los on that play.

  • That HURTS.

  • When your run plays are averaging... what, 5 yards a carry on a drive, I think the sensible thing is to keep running.

NOT THROW IT WITH YOUR BACK UP QB, TICE!

We should keep Bush in, he's a bruiser the Texans don't look prepared for.

  • In reply to Scharfinator:

I'd like to see a heavy dose of that...

  • have we ever run a draw the whole season? We just needed a few more yards for Gould FG!

    These aren't exactly ideal conditions.

  • haven't needed a defensive score more than right now

  • Nice stand on D there. Let's get 7 here!!!

  • We're beating ourselves AGAIN.

  • Why is Podlesh getting paid by the Chicago Bears?

  • Pod - jeeeeesus.

  • Is that punter from camp still available?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Ryan Quigley, that's his name....

  • How is it possible to suck at punting? Fuck you Podlesh.

  • No more stupid mistakes, we can still win . Obvious, but obvious.

  • Ugh...

  • Fuck you Cutler!!

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

what?? he got speared in the face you fucking retard. That guy should have been kicked out of the game and may get suspended and fined 75k. He received a BRAIN INJURY. That is what a fucking concussion is.

Shut your fucking mouth unless you are going to make sense.

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

    Go to hell, moron.

  • tick, tick, tick, tick...

  • Seeing those TO replays make me sick.

  • UGLY

  • WTF was that?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    It was reality

  • Davis. Shoot him.

  • I was never on board with Campbell being a great pick up. Stay down Kellen. And stay off the field.

  • Fuck kellen Davis in the face

  • That near pick6 was also due to Davis.

  • What can we say about KD that hasn't been said a zillion times already?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

I'm thinking his off field help for the murdered Bear fan was PR... Is that an evil thought?

  • In reply to duhbear:

Maybe but perfectly understandable under the circumstances...

  • C'mon D

  • god willing KD gave himself a concussion failing to catch that pass

  • I defended the guy for a long time, but KD can just go pack his shit and go.
    He's been turrible.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY4LvTv_83E

  • Alright Hester, just run...don't think.

  • I'm not seeing it, sorry guys...

  • Campbell looks fucking lost. He keeps looking down in submission and checking down to covered forte

  • Damn...every time ..shoot ourselves in the foot.

  • need a home run and then do it again in OT...

  • That should not have been. Campbell has no balls.

  • well, we lose this one to the team that looks just like us, except they have a decent pass rush. gotta put up with a week of bullshit about how we are who they thought we were, but what will the talking heads say when we beat SF next Monday night?

  • In reply to BACON:

Are we going to have Cutler?

    McClellin?

    Fucking Kellen fucking Davis?

No, no, yes? Then how the fuck are we going to beat SF?

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

Cutler, yes, he'll be back, his concussions never last more than about 45 minutes.

    Shea, not sure.

Fucking Kellen Fucking Davis? Again, God willing he concussed himself on that failed pass attempt.

  • Fucking Fuck.

  • D did it's job...O Line did it's job...Cutler was a bitch....Later

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

    you're a fucking fag

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

    forte had 2yds a carry.

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

Stop eating your own feces and maybe that brain damage will abate.

  • Gonna need an offense to come around at some point. I just hope the Cutler concussion isn't going to keep him out too long. Either way you gotta catch the damn ball and hang onto it.

  • In reply to Shady:

honestly, what does Cutler really do?! Get sacked and run? I'm over hyping the kid...This may be the hate/alcohol talking, but shit!!!

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

cutler didn't drop the touchdown pass in the endzone. your friend brandon did.

  • kellen davis need to go.

I hate to say we gave them that game on our own field, but we did. The refs were also in our shit all game.

Fuck, that sucked... like everyone who tried to catch the ball except Bmarsh and earl... oh wait, BM dropped an easy 6 too. Fuck me.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Hard to watch da team flailing around in bear weather.

  • As great as this defense is playing, the offense can't afford to turn the ball over 4 times and expect to win. Especially without Jay Cutler.

  • i really hate the bears' tight ends...specifically, kellen davis.....

  • Questions needed to be asked:

Why do we have a speedster FB if all we have him do is what Clutts would have done, but done much better and perhaps help the run game?

Why is Hester on the O? Seriously. Wouldn't like, Scrappy, be a abetter option? Weems? Somebody who is a legit threat to run routes and get open?

Can we start Kyle Davis against the Niners? Please?

Wouldn't it have been better to keep Clutts even if you wanted to play ERod, and cut Spaeth instead?

If you never give your 2nd string QB meaningful reps, you get a guy who drops back and immediately looks to his check down guy.

    Lack was a liability.

Schaub would be out of the NFL save for standing behind the best line in the game.

Mercilus tackled Hester in the open field.

Hester couldn't juke a guy in the open field and came up short of first down and it cost us big time.

It sucks they hit Jay on a cheap shot like that. Hopefully they follow that up with a hefty fine.

Marshall is showering, getting dressed, and headed to Walgreens for some miracle hand cure gel for Jeffery.

  • In reply to gpldan:

/wtb miracle hand cure gel, pst

  • In reply to gpldan:

Yeah, that reminds me... Campbell is Hanie, Part 2 if all he's gonna do is checkdown for 0-2 yards every play.

The brightest part of the defensive game as that the corners continued to look like All-Pros.

The brightest part of the offensive game was that JJ Watt didn't look like an All-Pro.

    Peanut for NFC DPotY

  • Kellen Davis was awful.

Refs were horrid. I guess they didn't want to call any PI tonight.

That "confirmed" bullshit on the Cutler KO was disgraceful. And the NFL needs to change the rulebook so a FUCKING PERSONAL FOUL can't be offset by a procedural penalty.

The game goes different if they overturned that call. 1st and goal.

Tice gets a kick in the teeth for calling a crappy game.

Conte gets a kick in the ass for being out of position and taking bad angles way too often.

All in all, I wouldn't mind this game--it's non-conference, and the refs jobbing the Bears over and over will just piss 'em off for next week. But Chicken Dinner and Cutty both getting concussed is bad mojo, folks.

  • Okay, rapid fire (from a guy who did not watch the entire game):

    1) Cutler is better than Campbell. Not saying he would have won the game for us, but saying he would have had a much better chance.

    2) Is Tice guilty of the same thing as Martz? Not allowing the backup QB to get enough reps to learn the offense...

    3) In fairness to Campbell, not exactly the easiest defense to come in against on your first real snaps.

    4) Penalties killed us. From the silly forward pass thing on Jay all the way to the 243 holding calls on the O-line. How did we get holding called on special teams for a fair catch?6

    5) Once this team figures out its offensive identity, a lot of these problems will go away. The O-line will make fewer mental mistakes, Campbell will be more comfortable coming in off the bench, we will have more of a descernable plan in the red zone.

    6) Not over-reacting, we will not last in the playoffs if we play like that. The reason that is not called over-reacting is because I didn't say we can't do better...

    7) Kellen Davis is the reason we lost Clutts. Emery knew in September that KD wasn't the answer... but there was nobody else to start this year. I've been peaking at draft charts... there is a good chance we draft the best TE in the draft this year at #30 or so... and that is Notre Dame's Tyler Eifert.

    8) Our pass rush would have looked a lot better if not for in-game injuries. I think we lost Shea and Peppers in during the game... that really hurts.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

    NBIT,

News flash-er-rino: Dinner sucks. He's a turf rusher playing in a swamp during a downpour. He's 245 with his pads on. He's fucked, and losing him meant nothing other than Pep wasn't going to be able to rest his Plantar Fascitis.

Dinner may contribute in two years when Briggs hangs it up. Not until then.

They'd have done better pulling Roach and putting JT Thomas in. They needed a physical SSLB that could hold the end and shed the block and that has never been Roach.

  • and what's up with campbell having a vagina? Fucken a man. throw the motherfucking ball.

So our 1st string QB only knows how to fucking heave it 40+ and our second string refuses to. damn it.

D did really well tonight, so did the oline actually. Cutty's just gotta start spreading it around a bit... we're so 1 dimensional.

Also, tice needs to stick to and establish the run game. he just has to.

On a night like tonight, I don't mind the loss... the weather and field was turrible and the win was going to go to the ones who made the fewest mistakes... just pisses me off that we handed them our mistakes on a platter.

Also, why is it only a 15 yard penalty when a guy can smash a helpless QB and take him out for 2 games 3 fucking steps after the ball is gone. That should be an immediate ejection and a 4-5 game suspension... and I'm the guy who thought the first roughing call was total bullshit. That’s just garbage man... blatant and inexcusable. THOSE are the hits that really need to be punished… not the ticky tack .3 seconds after the ball is thrown.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Exactly. Football needs a red card like "football." If somebody does a clear professional foul like that, they're ejected, suspended for the next game, and their team has to play a man down the rest of the game. Fuck that shit.

It is time for the bears to get a Quarterback. Cutler isn't worth a plug nickel. So he''s gonna get hurt everytime he stinks. He throws into triple coverage, can't see more then one receiver at a time. His head is to big for his helmit. To bad cause he's got a good arm. McCaskey's should dump Coach Lovie Smith, he calls some real stupid plays. I don't see any real emotion or energy. Campbell is a loser Quarterback as well. Lets do Cutler on all of these guys and cut or loses.

  • In reply to Bill Wadford:

Nice opening post, Bill. Way to bring it.

You forgot the part about we should hang Virginia McCaskey from her ankles and use her as a shriveled pinata.

  • In reply to Bill Wadford:

    Fuck off, troll.

  • In reply to Bill Wadford:

So you're saying that at 7-2, we need to fire our head coach? The head coach, mind you, who doesn't call the offense's plays and who has basically created the best defense in the NFL and possibly the best defense in the past 10 years?

And you're saying that Jay Cutler, who admittedly is not having a great season, but who is the unquestioned leader of our offense needs to get cut?

And you're saying that Jason Campbell, who made a perfect throw into the hands of Kellen Davis that could have put us in positiont to tie the game had Davis not absolutely blown it, is also a liability. Even as a backup?

And you have no problem with the aforementioned TE, the O-line that killed multiple drives (again) with penalties, the recievers not named Brandon Marshall who can't get open, and the reciever named Brandon Marshall who also had a nasty drop?

No over-reactions. We need to get better. We will replace the weak links in the off-season. But we can still make a run this year. A good coach and a good QB will learn from this game and get better. Cutler and Lovie will improve. So will Campbell.

Tice... I hope that's true of him as well.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Not an over-reaction, NewBear. Wadford is trolling.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

I did like the part about the shriveled vagina piñata. vañata....

  • In reply to BACON:

Then you should have replied to glpdan. He's the one who's "shriveled vagina" you liked so much. My comment was about Wadford.

  • And as PFT points out... Caleb Hanie would have done a lot worse than Campbell. Cut the guy some slack.

  • The ONLY silver lining that I can see to this game is that the Bears sucked in ways they normally do not suck (as bad).

The OL did ok, but inconsistancy is nothing new for that crew, so it remains to be seen if they actually improved (due to something other than the fact that they got a lot of help from guys who should have been available for short passes).

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

I was 1000000% impressed with zero sacks maing. I think they did well on pass blocking and shitty on run blocking this time. strange.

Tice refuses to commit to the run. just won't.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Is it a Jeremy Bates issue? Is Tice have trouble commiting to the run because Bates keeps insisting he can fix the pass?

What was Tice like as a HC? Did his other teams have similar issues?

  • OVER RATED!!! Did we not just sign Forte?! RUN the damn ball....Cutler is over rated. I'm done with him and the offense. Defense stepped up and did their job!!!

  • Ron Burgundy missed the second half!........figures!!

  • chicken dinner had Concussion concerns coming in. Nice pick emery, way better than jones or mercilus. fuck me,

  • We don't have the fire power to win a Superbowl outside our D......O sucks!!! D wins championships?! Nope, it is an O league and we don't have it

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

    stoooooop it maings.

  • Cutler against ELITE teams this year 0-2, and he might not even get a chance to suck next Monday too.

40 yards passing for a half? Are you kidding me. This reminded me of the NFC Championship game where we were waiting for Cutler to turn it around while the D hung on, only to get injured leaving us once again to wonder, "what if..."

Cutler has balls, but he's writing checks his "receivers" can't catch/cash, except Marshall.

Tice simply can't play call. End of story. Demote him back to Oline coach - promote Bates. I don't care if they do it "unofficially" but it needs to happen. It took them 3 quarters to figure out the middle of the field is open? Really? Wade Phillips told the press like on Tues that he was gonna double cover Marshall, and Tice couldn't figure that out?

Davis and Hester didn't help, but there were other grave deficiencies, like being WORST on 1st downs in the entire league. That + a shitty pass blocking Oline = QB murder (although I admit our Oline did a GREAT job today).

I feel horrible for our D. They deserve an O like the Saints, but instead they get 2 FGs and another missed.

    Concussion Bowl next MNF.

Let's see who's noodle clears up faster.

  • Disappointed but not depressed. The refs fucked us numerous times. Apparently DB's can do anything they want when it's raining. Saw their OL holding constantly and it was never called. Not once. It's not bad enough they can dive at everyone's knees all night they get to hold too.

Marshall had a killer drop. So did Forte. It happens in these conditions. Kellen is a waste of skin and should be inactive for the rest of the year. Adams HAS to take over for Davis. Cutler didn't have a great game but he had no help. Tice is out to lunch. We just missed about a half dozen big plays. Everything that could go wrong did and we were still in it with a minute to go.

Hester has to go straight North in these conditions (esp in Soldier Field). Jeff is right, Podlesh sucks moose wang. Maybe his hip is still fucked. If that's the case, we should have put him on IR and kept Quinn.

On the bright side, it was a non-conference game. Also, the D was stellar. If you only give up 13 points you should win. Oh well.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I agree. This game could easily have ended with the Bears at 8-1. Fuck, if it had been Kellen Davis who missed the game with an ass injury instead of Owen Daniels, the Bears might very well have won.

  • (tiptoes through the debris of strewn bodies, empty beer bottles, and used-up mangina-quips)

Nothing had hanged and all was not well in the land of the Bears.

  • Hanged? Changed, even ... although ... hanging ... yeah .. .HEY! JERRY!

  • if emery has a second draft like past year I will start calling him jerry.

  • The turnovers, missed chip shot field goal, Marshall's dropped TD and the worst goal line playcalling of all time when we had 2nd and goal from the 5 really added up to fucking ruin this night.

Cutler was blatantly put out of the game with a kill shot. He tried to tough it out but you know those pesky brain injuries....

If Cutlers fucking head fell off there would be fucking idiots telling us how his head is weakly attached to his head and that he is a pussy for it falling off.

Talk about pissing away a winnable game.

On another note. I'm hoping Alshon is back next week and that Jay is back after San Fran.

7-2 is not bad at all even though listening to the noise for the next 2 weeks is going to suck.

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

    oh, and 505, you're a tool.

  • In reply to Waffle 3.0:

Some men are just afraid to stand up and state their opinions. You rarely see their names in the comments section, except when there's a prize to be won. They are never very vocal during the week, when the rest of us at Da Bears Blog are fighting it out about football or politics or who-called-who-an-asshole, or whatever. But after a loss, they crawl out of the webwork like trolls.

Don't worry about them. They won't have the guts join the melee tomorrow. We'll see their names again in the next contest thread, or the next time everyone is down and they feel they can get a few good kicks in.

  • I told you guy's about the run blocking.

I really don't know why you are all upset. The Bears are 7-2. I will have more tomorrow but for real. Relax.

  • One more thing.. Since preseason and in the past..

Jason Campbell does one thing well. Stare down receivers.. He got lucky the pass he threw to Forte was not a pick six.

That being said, the St. Louis Rams were able to move up and down on the 49ers defense. Something I am sure went unnoticed today.

The Bears defense is something. Isn't it?

  • I echo a lot of the fans on here by saying I'm disappointed, but not disgusted. Our defense kept us in this game despite the trash the offense gave them in the first half. The ref's also boned us on many calls

Kellen Davis, apart from two circus catches (Dallas and Carolina), has failed to produce like he's supposed to. Rodriguez and Adams need to step in.

Despite the Texan's saying they would double Marshall, he drops a TD pass and is interfered with all night. His most important catch, and what would have broken the game open, I think, he dropped.

The Forte Bush combo shouldn't be backs spelling for one another. It should be matched to the opponent the next week. Forte does a lot better against speed defenses where his combination of speed and strength breaks a lot of weaker tackles. Bush seems appropriate for more physical defenses, like the Texans and 49er's where he can beat them up with that huge body of his.

  • Kellen Davis - fool me seventeen times...

Jason Campbell - you're not Caleb, and for that - we thank you. Seriously though, just whip the damn ball... it worked once. What doesn't work? 3 yards when we need 50.

Mike Tice - Ron Martz? I swear Jay was dropping back with 11 steps. Forte was running up the middle into a pack of bodies more often than not. The injury to Jay was almost the "run the fucking ball" boost we needed. Get your act together.

Brandon Marshall - catch that ball. Seriously...

Jay Cutler - The important people know you're tough. Please don't go out of your way to prove it.

    The Refs - Fuck you.

The Defense - I'm sorry. Deeply. But, uh, remember when we were really good at stopping the run? Like 2006. Yeah, go back to that.

The Fans - Settle down Chicken Littles. 7-2. And there isn't a team we can't beat. Once we get some play calling on offense figured out, we'll be nasty. I have faith that it will occur.

It was a weird game. We could have won, but should have lost - and we did. Hopefully this is the smack in the face that we need to get our act together and steamroll the 49ers. I'm confident that we beat them with or without Jay. Gore isn't Foster, and without Foster we beat Houston.

It's partly the fault of my household. The baby and wife slept through most of the game. The mojo wasn't at full throttle in the Willie house. We'll get that fixed. Now it's Tice's turn.
