Chicago Bears at Tennessee Titans Game Thread

Chicago Bears at Tennessee Titans Game Thread

Jay, Earl and DJ return to the scenes of their collegiate crimes. Four final thoughts:

  • If the Bears don't disrupt the rhythm of Matt Hasselbeck, he will dissect them. Hasselbeck has taken what Lovie's defense gives him for a decade and he's got the group of receivers in Tennessee who'll sit underneath the corners and move the chains. They may not score touchdowns but they'll keep the football.
  • One of these weeks we're going to get a 350+ yard performance from Jay Cutler. I thought it was coming against Detroit until he was slammed to the ground. This Tennessee defense is one of the worst in football and the table is set.
  • If the Bears run the ball 30-35 times, they win. Easily.
  • I have never quite experienced anything like this weekend in Nashville. It literally seems like the town is entirely populated by Bears fans. Made me very proud.

Bear down.

P.S. I am going to do my best to get a postgame wrap-up of some kind up here either tonight or tomorrow morning. But if I don't, forgive me. I'm Honky-Tonkin'. Make sure you follow me on Twitter - @DaBearsBlog - for my instantaneous updates from inside LP Field and beyond.

  • first to say holy shit ..

just worked a night shift o and of to bed for two , then the smoke show , I've got a feeling the bears tear it up today.

  • balance = win

Time for the Matt, Jay and Brandon show.

Defensive pick to click: Major Wright and Melton.

Corner with the big play this week: Hayden

  • Alright gents...

This baby game ain't no joke!

So, after 16 hours of labor (including 3+ of pushing) we got ourselves a little 7lb 2oz baby girl! A Halloween baby, nonetheless.

After Mom's temp went high during the birth, the baby was swept into the baby ICU for 48 hours. Fucking stress. She was fine, so we went home 2 days ago.

    Two. Sleepless. Days. Ago.

But, with a little pacifier action and "Rockabye Baby!" magic (for those of you unaware, it's all your favorite rock songs done in lullaby form - Floyd, Zep, Beatles, Marley, Stones, etc... Fucking awesome. If you have babies and a rock appreciation, go downl.... err, buy it), we've figured out enough tricks to get her... to maybe... just maybe...

    Sleep through a Bears game!?!?!?

We shall see. Wish me luck.

Bear the fuck down (Which, I may have told my wife, in pure comedy form to "bear down" during labor. Only I laughed).

Now the typical Willie mojo and game day traditions won't be in proper effect, so don't be surprised by an upset. We win every game thanks to the wife... and she may not be watching (remember Jacksonville first half? Yeah, she wasn't watching).

To repeat - for all you uninitiated - this baby game ain't no joke.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

awesome man. Congrats to you, the wife, and the fam.

The next 6 months WILL suck, but when she gets old enough to run screaming "daaaaaaaddy!" into your arms when you get home, it is 1000000000% worth it. Soak it up maings, it goes fast.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Congratulations Willie! Good stuff. Cherish every second, even when you're tired and its hard. For the next 12 years or so, that baby is going to think you're the sun AND the moon. Enjoy the shit out of that time my man, cuz it gets dicey after that.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    No joke indeed, Willie.

Congratulations! Much ups to the wife. Labor can be pure hell. But it's an abrupt sharp hell, as opposed to the dull aching chronic hell that is the next 18 years. Good luck Brother.

    What's the little angel's name?

  • Walter.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Congrats Willie. Glad to hear Mom and baby Payton are in good health.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    Thanks fellas!

I pushed hard for Payton, Gale, Jordan, and Rose... to no avail.

Her name is Nadia Laurenne, and she's getting fussy!

Perfect timing - feed, change, sleep by 11:45!!! (Hopefully)

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

My neighbor has a daughter named Payton.

    Congrats Willie :)

If this is #1, say goodbye to spontaneous dinners out...
If this is #2, say goodbye to "hopefully she'll sleep if we just stay quiet"
If this is #3, good luck switching from man defense to zone.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

And no matter what the number, say goodbye to the old in and out.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Congrats Willie!

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Sweet! Welcome to fatherhood, Willie. Please remember it is for keeps. You are Dad now, until you die. Like that thing in Saving Private Ryan, "earn this".

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    "Earn this."

    Ooh. Goosebumps.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Congrats man!

  • Congratulations and welcome to the world of the parenthood. I'm the oldest of eight and considered it and the priesthood for about the same amount of time - a little under two minutes. If I had a kid and he/she gave me even half the grief I gave my parents, I'd either have to kill him/her or myself. Besides when you're as narcissistic and self absorbed as I am, kids aren't the best idea.

But that's just me. I have friends who were confirmed bachelors but got married and had children a little bit later in life than the average and everyone of them exults in fatherhood and take every opportunity to remind me what I'm missing..

Anyway, best of luck to you and your family!

  • This song gets me pumped up for games. Chi Town State of Mind:

  • Unbelievable. ESPN just ran the same Jay Cutler hit piece from a week ago with Rick Reilly. Of course they air this right after a long gushing segment about St. Peyton.

  • A lot of people think the Bears are going to lose.. perhaps didn't notice how many Bears fans are taking over Nashville, that Jay and Bennett are legends there, or that the Titans are falling apart.

No matter what happens today, enjoy today my friends.

  • I will keep it short and simple:

    Bear Down!

  • Movember is in full effect haha nice moustache-o Urlacher.

  • Peanut is just sooo goood BALL PUNCH!

  • In reply to Shady:

  • F'n Winslow. Another wasted opp...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Kellen Davis?

  • In reply to Shady:

    Doh, wrong Kellen....

  • What the fuck Podlesh, punting the ball into the endzone from the 40? You kidding me? It's a damn shame that beautiful turnover didn't result in more than a terrible punt and giving the Titans the ball back at the 20.

  • In reply to Shady:

    I miss Brad Maynard.

  • Jebus Cutler, SLIDE, THROW IT AWAY!

  • This offense is a facepalm.

  • In reply to Shady:

    What's that?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

When you're frustrated and/or annoyed beyond words.

  • Woot Woot! Great blocked punt McManis (unblocked!)

  • Billick just said with this defense scoring like it has, if ST could do the same, he'd just have the O punt on first down....

  • Why is Peanut running special teams? Just curious. 'Cause if he went down on specials I would shit a brick.

  • In reply to Shady:

Peanut's been a gunner and a blocker on Punt & PR teams his whole career.

Plenty of good coaches use 1st stringers for critical ST positions (more examples: Pep and Lack on FG block teams). And the coaches who use their starters most effectively on ST are the best coaches.

  • Still, blocking a kick is one thing, running gunner is another. Still, he gets hurt on ST I would still shit a brick.

  • +1

  • No, I don't believe Peanut has been a gunner for a while now, but he is not a gunner this year -- the gunners are Weems and McManis/Bowman. Peanut is a 1-phase STer -- on punt return as a gunner blocker, because in Toub's words he is the only guy who is capable of single-handedly shutting down a gunner at the line, which makes him invaluable.

I believe Tillman might come in on some occasional special ST sub-personnel groups though -- I think maybe for punt/FG block and possibly the onside or "squibbler" fielding team (and seriously... only the Bears (by virtue of having Hester) have the need and have the foresight/preparation to create a ST team exclusively for fielding squib kicks).

I agree 100% on good/best HCs allocating starters to ST positions... This is one of the much overlooked strengths of Lovie, that personally I admire greatly. He asks almost every starter to contribute on 1 or 2 ST positions, and they take pride in doing it. That's a culture of winning football right there...

Not every HC is willing to give starters to his ST coach, or encourages starters to play ST (or on the flip side, refuses to coddle starters who don't want to), or proactively builds a culture where STs are seen as equals to the O and D. This (in addition to having the best ST coach in the NFL, as well as GMs willing to prioritize and pursue ST personel targets each and every year) is why specials have always been a cut above during Lovie's tenure.

  • I swear Mike Martz is still running this shit show.

  • In reply to Shady:

I'll bet the O stats at this point in the season last year were better than this year's....

  • 17 false starts this year so far!

  • This team is gonna get killed next week. Do they even fucking practice?

  • Jesus, this O sucks. They SHOULD be punting on first down....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Then again, so should the Titans...

  • Oh Devin so close SO CLOSE. Don't give this offense an oopty to fuck it up.

  • Al Afalava sighting.

  • In reply to Shady:

    It was the moustache.

  • OK. So those Urlacher is done folks say what?

  • This defense. Just. Wow. Wow. UN fucking believable.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Better than '85

  • Told you so...

  • ?

  • Peanut is freakin awesome.

  • Seriously. Why even throw it at Peanut? Can he go to the HOF on punched balls?

  • This has to be unprecedented...

  • Not even the end of the 1st quarter and they can run it the rest of the game...

  • The power of the moustache.

  • In reply to Shady:

    lol, +1

  • Is it Campbell time yet?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Campbell hands off to Bush the rest of the day in my world. Hopefully some guys on D get a light work load too.

  • redzone should show coverage of the bears when the titans are inside their own 20 with how our D is playing today.

  • In reply to BACON:

  • The blog is really working well...NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF

  • At this rate, I should have picked up Campbell and started him in fantasy football..He should be in pretty soon!! HAHA

  • You know how in high school they have the slaughter rule, when one team gets up by 30 points they run the clock constantly?

This game is getting close to that. Anemic Bears Offense notwithstanding.

I'm gotta find a good new nickname for Peanut to encapsulate his true role as a turnover machine. "Baker" doesn't quite get it, nor does "Mixer." "Cuisinart?"

He deserves DPotW simply for that super heads-up nudge of the ball so Conte could recover it.

Hope Jeff is having a ball at the game. The Bears fans are damn loud on TV.

  • Simply, Peanut.

  • Gould must have been getting antsy. he's usually our first or second score of the game, as opposed to our 5th....

  • In reply to BACON:

  • Tillman forced ANOTHER fumble.

    Holy carp.

  • Izzy down. Izzy down. Shit, holding his knee.

  • In reply to Shady:

Sometimes the ones that look serious are the most minor (wishful thinking, I know.

  • So, I think this baby has some good juju..

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Hey, I missed congratulating you earlier. Congrats. Girls are awesome, especially when you make sure from a young age that they're huge Bears fans.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

I also missed congratulating you earlier. I have a little boy, so I can't comment yet on how great little girls are. But regarding parenthood I can say you get out what you put in. Be fully involved in that little one's life and it'll be simultaneously the most rewarding and most challenging thing you can imagine. And when they're old enough to give you hugs, learn referee hand signals, and explain to your significant other "Mama, listen, Ditka is Da Coach!" it's totally worth it.

  • In reply to BACON:

+1, again. Except for the Ditka part.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Congrats Willie. Glad to hear Mrs Willie and Nadia are doing well. Very Happy for ya!!!!!

  • DAMMIT. I wanted Hasselbeck creamed on that play.

  • Urlacher pulled a Peanut.

  • Yeah, I think I've got it backwards. Rather than coming up with a new nickname for Peanut, we should just call forced fumbles "Peanuts" and leave it at that.

  • Defense is ballin' out of control.

  • Urlacher is BBAAACCCKKK!!!

  • Webb is having a craptacular game so far.

  • shocking, cause that reverse ALWAYS works for us. Jesus fuck tice. really?

And shocking that webb got penalized.

  • oh my god?!?!?!? the running game is working like crazy when you commit to it??!?!?!?!

  • Brian Billick is having a brutal day.

  • frustrating... cutler has zero pocket presence.

  • Serisouly Tice, can you not recognize how terrible the line is playing? And you go empty back? smhfacepalm^10

  • Why does it seem the Bears offense is getting progressivelly worse?

  • Izzy is back in...whew!!

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

  • 31-5. Impressive considering how bad the offense has looked.

  • In reply to Shady:

It's scary thinking how this offense is going to do against the Texans and then the 49ers...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Yep, that's got me worried too. They just aren't yet. Blow coverage on the turnover.
Yeah, the offense is just not there yet. tICE NEEDS TO GET HIS HEAD OUT OF HIS ASS AND FIND WHAT WORKS EARLIER. Protecrion ain't helping none either.

  • In reply to MaddBearfan:

Simple. Run Forte, and *fucking block*

  • Little bit late waking up for the game, so what do we have?

    1. Willie's life is over? (congrats Willie!) Check.

    2. Al's Titans pick is in Jeopardy? Check.

    3. Our offense still sucks? Check.

    4. Fatboy Webb's jobwatch begins? Check.

    5. Optimus Prime in the Probowl again? Check.

    6. People who said Brian was finished now entitled to STFU? Check.

    7. Terry Bradshaw still a fkn idiot? Check.

    Ahhh ... nothing changes.

  • Point 7 is a sure bet whether I saw any of it

  • have I ever mentioned that our oline is kind of.... not so good?

    have i?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

can everyone who gave me shit for whining so much about it please stand up?

you HAVE to be kidding me.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I stand up. It's definitely not what I had hoped for but it will have to get us by because there is nothing out there and the trade deadline is over.

FA or draft is where the Bears will have to look for some help on the o-line but it's looking like the Bears will be leaning on the draft considering the FA's they have after this season.

  • Lucky our D/Special Teams showed up...Our freaking O-Line is dog crap yet again!!!

  • I want to wake up tomorrow and hear that Kellen Davis and J Webb were cut from the team. I would prefer it if they were just left in Nashville.

  • Again, why not Bush?

  • tice pretty much sucks as an OC. just sayin.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Some of the O players sure aren't helping....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

like the entire fucking oline? yes, I know tobi.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB you've never mentioned the OL sucks. When did you turn on them?

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

fuck me canada.. when is this management going to do something... ANYFUCKINGTHING!?!?!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I would have to guess Emery will do everything possible to fix it in the off season. I thought they would take a step up and Tice would call plays to help them out. Uh, no. FUCK!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

yes, he's really been biting his tongue on that...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    for 4 years... and running.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yep. I keep hoping its going to look better. 8 games in and its still a mess. This shit has to change soon or the Mike Tice job watch begins

  • BM is a fucking bad ass. period

  • the hester dive-down. that thing is turrible.

  • btw, carimi is pretty bad man

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That actually surprised me. I though Webb would be the only real problem.

  • Jesus, three trips to the redzone and a field goal each time. Pass protection is complete horeshit.

  • Fox goes to commercial, shows Cutler frowning and Lach laughing. I've had enough coverage of the Cutler frown, thanks.

  • In reply to BACON:

You'd have LOVED the Rick Reilly Hachet Job on Jay during the 4-letter pregame.

  • i have to ask... johnny feel free to chime in too.

Jay cutler or andy dalton. right now?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Dalton has an amazing receiver digging him out. Cutty has a noose around his neck called J'Marcus Webb, Roberto Garza and Gabe Carimi.

  • Forte has his 100 yds, let Allen and Bush finish it....

  • OK, great! now it's Campbell's turn too....

  • so is it all on the oline?

  • I think it's safe to say the curse of the blogfader/noah simultaneous attendance is now over.

  • In reply to Shady:

    No shit

  • I love hearing the "Let's go Bears" chants.

  • holy fuck peanut

  • Senior ball punch! Incredible.

  • Peanut is playing a different game. Unbelievable.

  • In reply to bajeezes:

  • "Corner with the big play this week: Hayden"

    Bang! Bang!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

unfortunately, every fucking corner we have on the roster has made like 2 each... but great call johnny.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    hee hee

  • In reply to Shady:

shady, got it done this week baby. off the schined.

  • Hangin' half-a-hundred on the board in Nashville. Sweet music.

  • In reply to Shady:

Jefe and Noah must be having some fun down there. Sounds like a home game.

  • seriously?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

god i hate garbage tds. HATE them

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I hate garbage TDs too. The only saving grace there was that it was literally the scrubs that gave up that 80 yard run to CJ. Not even the backups, but there were 3rd stringers out there. The safety that took a horrible angle? #37... I don't even know who the fuck #37 is. Walters maybe? Is he still on the team? The corner on that side in pursuit was #38... again who? That's not Hayden or Moore or even McManis... so Bowman I guess? (Who I might add wasn't even on the team 2 weeks ago...)

Although, on the negative side, it appears Steltz was the other safety playing in the box in run support... and it was his gap I think CJ ran through. He overplayed the contain/pursuit and let the lead blocker easily get up and inside of him. Hopefully he doesn't make a mistake like that again if he steps in later this season, considering he is the #3 safety. A little surprising too, since he is typically pretty assignment-sound.

Anyway I'm with you... I hate garbage TDs, but as garbage TDs go this one is less worrisome. It just would've been nice to have limited CJ to 60 yards rushing and kept the 1+ year sub-100 yard rusher streak alive. Oh well, sadly shit like this often comes with the territory in these massive blowout wins.

  • In reply to Michael L:

yeah, I know Mike. I actually looked at the box scores and hoped that there was an asterisk. Of course there wasn't, but a girl can wish.

"* note: This TD was scored against the 3rd string scrubs in the 4th quarter because this was a total and complete blowout by the second quarter."

  • In reply to Michael L:

You know what's awesome though? In 8 games, the Bears have given up 11 TDs:

    - 1 by STs (pass on fake FG)
    - 1 by O (pick 6)
    - 3 in garbage time (2 pass, 1 run)
    - 6 by "starting" D (4 pass, 1 run, 1 FR)

That means the starting defense has scored more TDs (7) than they've allowed (6). And even one of those too was on a fumble recovery that could have just as easily ended up being recovered for a touchback. That is dominating D right there...

  • In reply to Michael L:

Even more incredible is the Dallas corners being touted as the league's best. Tillman is the FF leader, TJ with the INTs. Surely we have the best. Yardage schmardage.

  • Our opps this year have a combined 15-23 record? Shit's about to get real.

Thank God for Brandon Marshall. Shuld have gotten him three years ago. 3 TDs?

Peanut Tillman you are ridiculous. 51 points with no offense? I'm so proud of my Bears I'm almost in tears.

  • WTF? In the same post that you prop BM for three TD, you say 51 points with no offense?

I thought you quit drinking Irish... maybe it's whatever you're smoking?

  • No offense? 37 points of offense. Hardly a non-factor this week.

People seem to be upset the offense is slow to start and has trouble sometimes... but don't all teams have issues in the offense? How many teams have an "elite" offense who scores at will? Maybe Denver, New England, and regrettably, Green Bay (Two HOF quarterbacks to be sure, maybe a third).

We can all bemoan Tice's poor play calls, but no one ever lauds him when he makes good ones. This is a first year offense who are 8th in the league in points scored, not including this blow out of Tennessee.

Also, consider our opponent's records this year would be 14-16 without the Bears laying some wood. Pretty close to average, I would think.

  • I hate it when people (not you Irish, I just mean in general) quote cumulative opposing team records without subtracting the head-to-head games played -- guess what, part of the reason Bears' opponents have a sucky record is because... they played the Bears!

So as of now, the combined opponent record is 27-38... but subtracting the 7-1 pummeling the Bears put on them means those teams are 26-31 against teams that are not the Bears. Pretty respectable, wouldn't you say? Heck, if you exclude the Jaguars, then all the other teams the Bears have played are 25-25... exactly .500. So even if you call the JAC a freebie win, they still went 6-1 versus a perfectly average slate of other opponents.

  • Well, there's a buzz kill for ya....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

McManis took a horrible angle and CJ ran right past him. Ugly.

  • In reply to Shady:

Guess why he's primarily ST. Well, as long as he can learn from his mistakes...

  • In reply to Shady:

That's what he gets for spelling his name wrong.

  • I don't think he's irish... Irish.

  • Kinda cool to see Cutler and Urlacher chatting. Saw Urlacher talking with Tice earlier. Usually don't see O and D players interacting on the sideline..

  • allen is a decent rb man. shifty.

  • OK, we know thay can run block. Why not work on pass blocking with a 30 pt lead?

  • 7-1 and now things get tough.

  • In reply to Shady:

dude, we are going to ass-rape the vikings twice, the lions once, and the packers once. the others will be tough games.

  • In reply to Shady:

    7-1. Why don't I feel better?

The noticeable improvement that the O-line made during the season last year does NOT seem to be taking place THIS year.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yeah, I know Al. But this defense is better than '85

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    whoa, whoa, WHOA maaaaan!!!!!

  • In reply to SC Dave:

It'll be interesting to see how the stats add up after we've played some good teams. The teams we've played so far had 15 victories between them.

But two thing's are for sure :

    1. If you're a QB, the 85 onslaught was something you'd genuinely fear.

    2. We will not shut-out two teams in the playoffs.

They didn't have an Optimus Prime though.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

... and I guess it needs to be, since if we make it to the bowl, this will be the worst offense we did it with. Statistically, anyway.

  • Denver and Chitown win for me. Peanut's a legend. My defense rocks. Back to the pit. Night night.

Enjoy your litte princess, Willie. Hope it all goes well.

  • Thanks Irish!

Just got that fussy girl to bed, hopefully long enough for a bite to eat.

    Ain't. No. Joke.

  • OK, can someone tell me why TIllman was out with the O?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Victory formation. He makes sure if the offense fumbles the snap the defense doesn't run it back for a score.

  • In reply to Shady:

Interesting. I've never seen that before...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

he would have instantly have been given the MVP award if he'd have picked up a fumble and returned it for a TD.

  • aaaaaaaand, for the win:

    You, good sirs... are welcome.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    I raise.

    Victory boobies!

  • In reply to Shady:

    mmmmmmmmmmm.... booooobiiiiiiieeees.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    god I love huge tits.

Must be cause I wasn't breast fed. oh well.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Admit it. You watched that thing loop like 30 times didn't you?

  • In reply to Shady:

    yes. I did. amazingly beautiful.

Did you see up top... got it done finally maings. Off the schnied baby. In a big way (see aforementioned loop)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You got laid? Nice work amigo. Hope she wasn't too smelly. JK!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    As long as they're real....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    I honestly don't get this.

Here, let me break this down for you tobi.

God doesn't make skinny hot chicks with DDs very often (kate upton and like 3 other chicks on earth maybe). So if you like huge tits and naturals only, you're either getting fat chicks, or chicks with big asses, or chicks with huge tites that are as long as they are big.

Fake boobies (when done well) are a gift of modern science. Please don't anger the science gods with silly talk like, "As long as they're real...."

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I felt a disturbance in the force..

  • me too erik, me too.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Oh my good God.

The magnificence of those voluptuous scoops of mouthwatering flesh defies description.

    Visual coffee. Thank you.

  • I'm sooooooo mad I couldn't watch the second half and missed more of the ass-whooping the Bears gave to the the titans. Willie, congrats, your wife and daughter have amazing powers lol I'm looking forward to the recap since ESPN prob won't show anything on the beloved....

  • I tried to post from my phone last in the first quarter, but it did not work.

This defense is better than 1985.

    There, I said it.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

While I don't entirely agree, as '85's 2nd half of the season was ruthless, I love this comment, and do somewhat agree.

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

Are we comparing a SB winnning defense with one that has had an easy first half of the season with the tough part still to come? Mkay.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

oh stop it... just stop it.

  • And by ruthless, I mean their D.

  • By the way, Our D is ruthless. I mean the '12 Bears. That Peanut is special.

  • Sorry, Dave. Disregard all these last remarks of mine, I completely agree with you, Bears' D is special.

No apology necessary - I had my share of Dale's Pale Ale over the course of this one.

Not sure if it was Johnny with the "season of destiny" or not, but this defense is absolutely unbelievable. Especially since they don't have the big advantage the '85 team had, which was the best running, and second highest scoring, offense in the league.

The '12 Bears keep doing it, over and over, with less rest/help from the offense than '85.

But in defense of the older team, this season is not over yet. There is still much to show.

  • If this team can hit it's true potential on offense then the bears wills steamroll their way to the superbowl.

Peanut.4 forced fumbles. FOUR! In one game. Motherfucking 4! And you know the other team knows all about Peanut's special skill, and they still can do nothing to stop it.

Seriously. If we can hit our stride on offense. We'll be tough to beat. By anyone. We are literally one offensive line away from complete NFL dominance.

Urlacher. 1 pick six, one FF, and one FR, 7 tackles. He may not be what we was, but he's still got it. LOVED watching him follow his blockers into the endzone .

Nice to see a good game for the special teams. Can we shut the fuck up about Hester as a returner now?

Brandon Marshall. Man do I love having a number 1 WR. Two TD' s for Marshall today. 3 for Jay.

Matt Forte. Nice leg churning TD run from you. You sir, are playing like a veteran with savvy.

Jay needs to slide, work on the clock in his head, throw the ball away, and scramble more. That's the only way this offensive line doesn't fuck it up for us.

Good day to be a bear.

  • "Can we shut the fuck up about Hester as a returner now?"

Did I miss the return for a TD?

"Two TD' s for Marshall today."

    Hi doc!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    You sonuva...

    3? Really?

  • B. Marshall - 9 - 122 - 13.6 - 3

  • It was nice to see Hester break one again. Hopefully he found his mojo today. If he starts doing that shit regularly again it may not matter how bad the oline plays.

  • aaron rodgers on 60 minutes?!?! Seriously?

Hey State Farm© Discount Double Check™... nice zit.

  • peanut so so deserves this... some heavy announcer fellatio. GetSome peanut!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Its nice to see a classy dude like Tillman finally getting the recognition he deserves. Love it when the good guys win. And I'm starting prefer the "ball punch" to jumping a route for an interception. Less risk.

  • Hester didn't return one for a touchdown but I bet Jay loves starting in the redzone instead of his own endzone.

My hero. I swear, I might cry when he retires. No joke.

  • pussy

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    just kidding erik

  • Man, that game was a thing of beauty...

Let's hope the leveling up of the family mojo is a permanent thing.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats and well wishes. Things are going well, but as we close in on night time.. Oy vey, always a toss up.

Erin on 60 minutes. Fuck him.

Rough schedule ahead of us gents.. I keep thinking we can't count on the D to do these things every game, but fuck... I hope they never prove me wrong.

Got my "haters gonna hate" shirt in the mail yesterday... Best $23 ever spent. To quote Ferris, "it's so choice. If you have the means, I highly suggest picking one up."

    On. To. The. Next.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Erin. I like it.

  • The Urlacher pick 6, like many of the others this year, was "a thing of beauty", as Willie might say. Brian slowed down to allow Conte, Idonije, and McClellin to hustle down field and throw key blocks. I could watch that play 50 times and not get bored.

  • I didn't think my man-crush on Peanut could get stronger, but it has.

Opposing teams are gonna have to tell their ballcarriers to just drop to the ground when they're anywhere near Tillman. He is a turnover demon.

And officially now my second-favorite Bear ever. Sorry, Mike Brown & Mike Singletary--I'm nuts for Peanut.

  • "I'm in love with a stripper"

  • Four Forced Fumbles in one day.

    In One Day.

The league defensive touchdown record is 9. The bears have seven in their last eight. It's 7 right? Peanut, Peanut, Briggs, Briggs, Urlacher, Jennings, Pringles. Who am I missing?

  • i think we have 8.

Season of Destiny. Cutler to Marshall is like a fucking video game.

  • I was thinking the same thing.. I know most of you don't play madden but Brandon Marshall is one bad mofo on that game.

After the catch, he usually breaks a tackle or two but his fucking stiff arm power is 88.. 88 people.. I can make Marshall make any corner he personal beyatch.

  • It's 7, and you have the names right. You're not missing anyone because you listed 7... ;)

Just barely off the 1 defensive TD per game played pace, hehe. If Jennings had managed to squeeze into the endzone after picking up that last Peanut FF, they'd have 8 now and a 1:1 TD/game ratio!

  • In reply to Michael L:

I believe the record accounts for special teams returns as well so the punt block return counts as a defensive TD. That makes 8.

I could be wrong but it's a defensive play.

    Schaub. Dead.
    Foster. Dead.

  • Hey guys, sorry I haven't been posting -- I have been around though and keeping up. It's just that with the startup (and to a lesser extent the time difference) I can't come around every day... So I end up catching up on multiple threads at once, having a shit-ton of things to respond to, but never knowing if I should necro-post or post to the latest thread. Even if I did post to the latest, it might get lost (because like Irish I'm reading it as your days are ending) and I may not see any responses until I come back days later, etc. Plus I don't know if someone already said what I would say until I catch up, etc. Just not a good way to carry on conversations, so it's just been easier not to try. Excuses, excuses....

Anyway there's been a number of things I want to say (some of them I could write a whole article about), so I was going to try after this game. Some may be now superfluous (like ranting about all the butthurting over Urlacher and Hester) as a result of this game, but I promise I will make some posts here soon and get some thoughts out, as well as catching up. I just can't promise to be too conversant, due to the startup, etc... (unless maybe Jefe sets up a real forum for this site.)

So look out for that in (hopefully) the next couple days, and over the following weeks. In the meantime, I leave you with the following:

    - Congrats big-time WiWG! Wish the best for you and the girls (both wife and little one)...

    - I unfortunately missed most of the first half, but I assume the posts I saw above were about the turnover by the O. Apparently (according to YBR, based on post-game explanations) that play was supposed to be a screen which Cutler tried to audible Marshall to change his route once he saw man-to-man coverage. This was not a good idea, and the breakdown in protection obviously was not on the OL because that is exactly what they were supposed to do on the screen. This was Cutler misjudging that he would be able to get a throw off to Marshall on his altered route fast enough (good spin, or bad spin is just a bad decision). He and Bates apparently discussed/argued about this, and Bates told him the design of the play doesn't give him the latitude to make that kind of adjustment at the line.

Anyway, the takeaway from this first half season is that we can't expect too much from this new offense just yet. Neither should we assume that what the offense will be in December and January will be anything we can picture based on what we've seen so far. Don't forget during the 2007 Giants regular season, Eli and the O looked pretty mistake-prone and inconsistent too. Don't forget also that the Giants won last year despite getting swept by the Redskins. Nothing that you see now is unsolvable or necessarily an obstacle come January. Give Tice, Cutler, the WRs, the TEs, the H/F backs, and Bates time to figure things out. Don't sweat the Packers just yet, and perhaps never. Let's enjoy this damn season because it's sure as hell shaping up to be an entertaining fun ride with a pretty awesome D to watch (not to mention captivating STs, and a developing O with promise)!

  • Well that was a bit better than Carolina.

Its hard to see what the total game plan would have been because we were so far ahead after one quarter, but this one looked good in almost every respect.

First quarter had every kind of score we would want to see: Running TD from Forte, Passing TD from Marshall, Defensive TD, Special Teams TD.

The rest of the game saw Cutler throw under 30 and the committee (Forte, Bush and Allen) run for more than 30. We didn't see 200 yards on the ground, but we didn't need to, so no problem.

We saw three TDs to Marshall. Awesome. We saw more catches by Bennett than Hester. Probably a step in the right direction, but no too much yardage from Bennett. Need to see more explosive-type plays from guys other than Marshall.

We saw Charles Tilman make a statement that he should be defensive player of the year. Honestly, I think he made a statement that he should be the MVP. Outside of Adrian Peterson, JJ Watt and a handful of QBs, tell me who his competition is.

But, we saw an offensive line penalty on the first play of the game. The first play of the game, and it was a run play. The Titans would have been scoreless in the first quarter except for a safety which came on, that's right, offensive lineman penalty.

Oh and both of those were J-Webb. Can someone explain the safety to me, was that a good Webb move to stop a defensive touchdown, or just a bonehead penalty?

Next week we play the Vikings. They'll put up more of a fight, but they are a very beatable team. I'm not thinking about the playoffs anymore. I'm thinking about home field advantage.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

NB, are you in denial or am I missing something? The next two games are against the Texans and then the 49ers....

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Agree with everything except next week. We play the Texans on Sunday night. Then Forty whiners on Monday night, then the Biqueens.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

it was a decent block, his hands slid up though and technically it's a penalty.

The bad thing about it was the call. It is a play that is just asking for that to happen. The penalty on Pnut on the punt and the next penalty on Hester set up that penalty by Webb resulting in a safety. That's right, 3 penalties in fucking less than 2 minutes.

Fuck it, we killed them and we'll make adjustments and come out even better against the Texans.

    Foster Dead.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

I would add the screen to Forte to the explosive play list.

  • Gotta agree with Michael. Not to mention we've had great luck with injuries so far. Hope it continues. Can't wait to get Jeffery back in the lineup. Didn't see the game so I'm not sure about Izzy and Melton. Hopefully they can rebound and play next Sunday night.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Izzy came back and played late in the game, so he should be ok.
    Didn't see Melton get injured.

  • You should think about the schedule NB. Texans next my man.

  • Thanks to the 65 people who corrected me. Next 2 weeks is likely the toughet stretch in the schedule. But we can beat any team in the NFL. If we do to the Texans what we did tiday, we'll win with a score around 30 to 16.

  • What's the most you would pay for a stitched jersey? I really like this one and wanted some info..

I do realize that some of you might bid on it but oh well..
