Reverend's Rant & Your Final Chance to Make Your First Pick

Reverend's Rant & Your Final Chance to Make Your First Pick

Two personal announcements:

First, our love to Murph and his wife as they suffer through some difficult medical issues. I got to meet Murph at the Draft Party in April and it was one of my highlights of the night. He's a great guy and I hope they pull through this.

Second, our love to my dear friend Margot Reilly Campbell and her new husband, actor and Chicago Bears diehard Christopher Denham. I love them both and I'm proud to be part of their ceremony Saturday as a, you guessed it, Bridesman. No new post on tomorrow. Game thread will be up early Sunday.

The Prize Reminder.

You'll be invited as special guest of DaBearsBlog to this year's Round One Draft Party on Thursday night, April 25th at Cortland's Garage in Bucktown. The prize includes:

  • Accommodation for draft night at The Willows Hotel, Lakeview. To see the hotel, CLICK HERE. I'll also be in the hotel and will gladly take you for a drink at the local spot Monsignor Murphy's if you so choose.
  • DaBearsBlog will cover the open bar for you and a +1 at the event.
  • $50 gift certificate for you/wife/husband/family to any of the Lou Malnati's locations across the Chicagoland area.
  • Two automatic entries into the ticket contest giveaway that evening. (We'll announce the particular game and details once the schedule is released next spring.)
  • A pair of 2012 DaBearsBlog tee-shirts.

The Week's Lines.

  • You only pick one team against the spread.
  • Once you select the team they are unavailable to you for the remainder of the season.
  • It is NOT a survival pool. The highest winning percentage at Week 15 will be awarded the prize. If there are ties, we'll decide in Weeks 16 and 17 by increasing the number of games selected incrementally.
  • You don't need to pick every week. But you must make ten selections between Week One and Week Fifteen. If you picked in Week One you do not need to pick in Week Two if you don't like the games.
  • Picks are due by kickoff of the early games Sunday. Picks will only be accepted in the comments of THIS post.

    Chicago -4.5

And FWIW, my prayers to Murph and his wife. I don't know how effective they'll be as I've been praying years for a tall brunette with natural 36Ds, weight proportionate to height and more money than she knows what to do with to take me away from all of this but so far, no go....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

I'm sorry I called you toblerone. You seem like a cool guy too, just like Murph.

  • In reply to Crown:

    No offense taken....

  • Wow, I'm not sold on any of those lines (I seriously think the Colts are gonna upset the Pack). The Bears I believe will more than cover, but I kinda want to hold on to that till later in the season.

  • Da Bears -4.5

  • Jeff and fellow bloggers, Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers from you all. Kinda weird how a lot of us have not met, but yet we have formed this"family". I truly believe things are on the upswing after a rough patch the last 6 months. Mrs. M had some good results on the liver last Monday from the UofC doctor. Hopefully her back procedure she had done this morning helps the other lingering issue. I personally have had my heart issues faily calm after having my BiV pacemaker/defib installed in July. Thank God we do have good insurance. I know some of you may not be the most spritual (MB) but I personally and strongly believe by the grace of God I am here today to partake of this blog and enjoy all of your company.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Faith can be powerful medicine, Murph. Keep on carrying on, both you and the Mrs.

  • GB -7 :(

  • Hope everything starts going your way soon Murph.

I have to admit. I really didn't think California would be this beautiful.

I hope everyone enjoyed the week. All I need to do is find a legitimate place to watch the Bears play now.

  • No idea where in CA you are but I always thought the Rockies (west of Denver) was about the most beautiful place I'd ever been to...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

I am in Monterey, CA. It's been pretty amazing so far but I have been told that I came at the "Summer Time" for Monterey.

I was told Monterey is part of the Great White's triangle or something to that extent.

That kind of blew my surfing idea out of the water.

  • do NOT go surfing there Erik.

    Glad you made it ok.

If you come down here I'll take you out surfing with me. I just got a pad 4 houses up from the beach. If a tsunami strikes I'm fucked, otherwise I'm in heaven. Common down.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

No worries. I didn't plan on it after I was told that. Those doll eyes scare the hell out of me.

When I get some free time, I will definitely take you up on that offer.

  • ....haven't had to evolve...perfect killing machine...soulless doll eyes...

    surfing? fucking way.

  • san diego.... puss

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'll be your huckleberry. Doll eyes is just my game.

  • Never had the chance to go to Monterey, but I heard it's beautiful.

And if you ever get the chance, you MUST visit BIG SUR. I've been there, and it's awesome! It's only a few hours away. Get a cabin, and enjoy the scenery (Red Woods/Pacific/Streams...)

  • Anyone from Monterey on here? If so, let me know where you all watch the Bears game at.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Yea, that's exactly what I want in a Chicago Bears linebacker. smh

  • In reply to Shady:

Good on him. And Lance Briggs loves comic books. So they have a life away from football. Does loving art make him a lesser football player? Caring about this is as Kardashian as it gets.

I expect more from you Shady, my friend, my MW3 mentor. Don't be swayed by the lure of the Dark side.

  • Lance Briggs loves Batman, Superman and Captain America. Nick Roach loves Ansel Adams, sunsets, and long walks on the beach.

  • In reply to Shady:

I have no problem with that.

I know, maybe if we force feed him violence, like on A Clockwork Orange, he'll be Lance Briggs.

Urlacher may not admit it, but I bet he likes to take in the occasional sunset whilst walking on a beach. It might be right before he bangs a chick but it's not like he HAS to do these things to get action, he's Brian Fucking Urlacher.

    I rest my case.

  • Cool Story.

Today is Salmon Days in Issaquah. A local festival celebrating the annual spawning of the salmon. So I ride my mountain bike down the hill to check out the festivities, get my blood moving. On my way back up the hill, I encounter a fellow in a bears jacket. As we bear fans are fewer out west, I greet him with a friendly "bear down", as is my way. So we're talking as I'm walking my bike up the steep ass hill. Turns out he's not really a bears fan. He's wearing the colors because in his words, he's a fan of his brother. Naturally, I ask him who his brother is.

    Cliff Stein.

Says he goes to all the playoff games. Said he went to the 06 Championship game against the Aints. He got to celebrate in the locker room with the team. Has met them all.

How cool and random is that?

Very cool is the answer. Very cool.

  • cool story. mjd dead.

  • I just want Briggs, with his new Lambo-legs, to destroy him, just once. A little "we don't take kindly to your tweeter-kind 'round here."

  • The one guy on the roster who you can count on giving someone a good lick each week. Hopefully it will be MJD.

  • That is very cool Doc, Cliff Stein is money. He's a former agent, so he understands both sides of the deal. The Bears are consistently one of the first teams to sign thier rookies and he's the reason why.

  • Definitely cool! Even though I'm a sinner.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    I keed. I keed.

  • An article in defense of Cutler? No way.

  • I can't wait until we go 12-4 this year and people are sucking cutler's wang and eating words. he'll pull it out and say, you don't deserve it.

  • I don't agree with all of this, but it's a cool article about Briggsy, nonetheless.

  • I'm in Jax and wake up this morning to find out the Bears are staying in my hotel. I had no idea because I laid in bed and watched Notre Dame and then fell asleep. I'm gettin on the elevator this morning and Spaeth is getting off. I get down to eat breakfast and find out they are here and were mingling last night. What the fuck!!!

  • I agree with Doc. Lack probably reads Byron or Shelley at home.

Fame, wisdom, love, and power were mine,
    And health and youth possess'd me;
My goblets blush'd from every vine,
    And lovely forms caress'd me;
    I sunn'd my heart in beauty's eyes,
    And felt my soul grow tender;
All earth can give, or mortal prize,
    Was mine of regal splendour.

Then he jams his tongue into Jenny's hairy asshole. Or used to.

  • Baltimore

  • Chicago -4.5

I was thinking about going ballsy this week and taking Andrew Luck and the Colts against the Fudge Packers, but this line seems too good to be true, time to get my homer pick out of the way!

  • Da Bears

  • Denver +6.5
