(Home team in CAPS)

BUFFALO -3 Tennessee

MINNESOTA -6 Arizona

INDIANAPOLIS -2.5 Cleveland

HOUSTON -7 Baltimore

Green Bay -5 ST. LOUIS

Dallas -2 CAROLINA

NEW YORK GIANTS -6 Washington

New Orleans -3 TAMPA BAY

NEW ENGLAND -10.5 New York Jets

OAKLAND -4 Jacksonville

Pittsburgh -1.5 CINCINNATI

I need a rebound selection to keep pace with the juggernaut that is Crown and oddly the teams I like I've already used. (Who invented this game anyhow?) So I'm taking the COWBOYS. It's risky but I like it.

For actual gambling, here's a three-team teaser: Patriots -4.5, Cowboys +4 and Ravens +13.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

your lack of confidence in the system around you reminds me of a young jay cutler getting up from his 7th sack at the meadowlands.

sad to see, but totally understandable.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

  • Green Bay -5

    I hate MNF.

  • New Orleans

  • Giants

  • Saints -3

  • Giants.

  • Still in Hoodoo Mode.

  • Green Bay -5

I hate this but I cannot see St. Louis beating sucks no matter how you slice it.

    ...and get some!

    you're welcome.

Also, I don't know why everyone was so perplexed with Jimmy's call last night. declining the penalty was smart. They'd get the ball back with zero chance of Seattle doing anything... instead of allowing the hawks to potentially onside and get the ball back with plenty of time for 3-4 shots into the end zone. They all acted like he stripped off all his cloths and ran screaming onto the field with his arms flailing.

In other news 24 AND 21 are BOTH beasts. Also, alex smith sucks. Also, both teams are very beatable… you know, by us.

Finally, I thought the call was safe, but a little weak. They guy basically hit him just under his arm. Not a chop by any stretch of the imagination. To see a truly cowardly fucked up chop see this:

Man that's hard to watch. Fucking punk ass bitch should be booted for the season. Cunt.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Safety would have put SF up two possesions, you can't onsides a punt, and the 2 pts would have resulted in a SF cover.

  • In reply to Shady:

    you can pooch a punt.

    Conspiracy theorist?

I can see i've been offline too long and need to bring the smackdown to settle you down again. Soon my precious... soooooon.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Prepare yourself for a DRUBBING at the hands of Mr. Nuggets.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Colon. Left parentheses.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Come on MB not that fat old hog again! BTW she's starting to look like she's no longer in high school. That's a good thing!

  • Buffalo at -3.

  • New Orleans -3

  • This comes from the Chargers DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC RELATIONS

(did you read those last two words in the man's title? Wow, let's see if Bill has a job tomorrow)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

btw, I agree with what he said.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    I especailly agree with this:

"What you want and what we all want, including your team, is to know people believe in them. "

It matters - it really does.

  • The JETS are tempting but I'm gonna have to go

    Saints -3

  • This was AWESOME btw

  • Minnesota -6

This week's KISS OF DEATH pick.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I got 'em last week. Your turn this week! I was going to pick the Kitties this week but I was afraid I would be tempting the juicy jaws of fate. I'll pick 'em when they aren't playing the Beloved.

  • Detroit Free Press-

Alphonso Smith, who was released by the Lions as part of their final roster cuts in August, worked out for the team on Wednesday.

The Lions are short-handed at the cornerback position after rookie Bill Bentley (shoulder) and starter Jacob Lacey (concussion) left Sunday's win over the Philadelphia Eagles with injuries.

Lacey will follow return-to-play protocol this week, but the Lions have typically held players who suffered brain injuries out at least one game. Bentley said he was “feeling better” but couldn’t be certain he’d play Monday night against the Chicago Bears.

“Day to day,” he said Wednesday. “Hope I can make it, but right now I don’t know. Just doing things one day at a time. Treatment, just trying to get better.”

If Bentley and Lacey can’t play Monday, Smith will be, at worst, the Lions’ No. 3 cornerback. Chris Houston and rookie sixth-round pick Jonte Green are the only other healthy corners on the roster.

Against the Eagles, the Lions played three safeties in their nickel package, with Amari Spievey matching up against slot receivers and Erik Coleman joining Louis Delmas at the safety spot.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

my god this might get ugly for them. A 6th rd rookie and/or a safety on bMarsh all night?

    haa hee

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I see Earl having a big night

  • I may be a homer but I decided to test out a theory due to the lack of any cool short segments on the Bears, highlights of games, showcases of their upcoming games, etc on NFL network , their website and Espn and it's website.

It is quite apparent that we get no love and no stories, no coverage, no fun snippets to watch, etc and I proved it by taping several days of segments in a row and speeding through them in fast forward. Not one story on the Bears in almost 2 weeks. I shit you not. I haven't watched both networks and there is nothing.

It's weird but it can't be a coincidence right? Not one fucking story?

Also, the Chicago media ridiculousnes has now hit an all time high. You know when Dan Bernstein has to point out that no one asks Jay any football related questions and every interview of another player on the team includes a question about Jay's demeanor in order to get a soundbit. Has the media gotten that desperate? Jesus fucking christ.

  • yes.

  • To be honest, I am totally okay with it.

From reading about how Cutler sucks, can't lead his team, and how he needs to grow up has bored me to death.

  • Tennessee (+3)

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

and after further're still super gay.

  • meh, whatever.

Jeff doesn't even look at his entries anyway.

    Hee hee

  • In reply to MB30SD:

yeah, i was half heartedly typing it because i don't care if he is on the site or not actually and he's probably just a normal dude in real life. Compared to other blogs both sports and non sports related, this is just more fun. I wish I could delete the post because honestly i don't fucking care.

    is it monday yet?

  • Colts -2.5.

  • Colts -2.5

  • so how are you liking cali Erik? Not bad huh?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The only bad part about Cali is the prices everywhere but we usually buy everything on base or at the Commissary. No tax and pretty good deals so far.

The weather is awesome and I amazed at how beautiful California really is. It has to be the most prettiest state in the USA. Seriously.

Ohh.. I hate seeing huge waves and people surfing. It's like walking to a sports bar hoping to see the Bears play and then being disappointed when the Raiders are on. But I really don't want to fight a shark. Let alone kill one.

  • I can imagine the headline:

Tennessee student/blogger punches shark to death while wearing superman outfit whilst surfing.

  • Knew that was going to happen. Now lets see if SC follows suit again. Everyone think independently and stay away from my picks. You're messing with my mojo.

  • In reply to Crown:

crow, plan a business trip to Chi on the weekend of the 16th maings. Make that shit happen.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Any word from Rabbit? Haven't seen him on da blog or the PS3 lately.

  • doc, if moving into his house was anything like mine, he'll be out a bit more. Also, this is his super busy season at work. In fact, I think he's down in flo-rida pulling 7, 16 hr days a week. Boomshakalaka!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Im actually leaving for chi tonight for the lions game. Ill also be at home for the vikes game over thanksgiving. Dont think I can pull the triple whammie.

  • In reply to Crown:

  • In reply to Crown:

You know, last week I avoided picking the team I liked because you picked them. Lost and regretted it.

Now I know you are a little upset but I can't help it amigo. All the others are too close and could go either way. Plus, I have to factor in the teams I have picked so far. If I am messing with your mojo then hopefully it helps everyone catch up to you.

  • Just playin man

  • In reply to Crown:

What the fuck are you talking about Clown?

  • Jets +10.5

  • OAK -4

  • Yeah, I picked OAK. I got stones!

  • Jets +10.5

  • Interesting tidbit on Davis...

"A Deep-Sleeper Tight End? I find it interesting that Kellen Davis, who has all of eight catches and 18 fantasy points on the season, has seen significant work down the seam for the Chicago Bears. Davis was a Super-Deep Sleeper of mine this summer, and mostly he's stayed asleep, but in watching some other stuff in Chicago's film this week, I ran across several plays where Jay Cutler decided to take a shot (sometimes ill-advised) at the behemoth Davis streaking down the middle of the field covered by a linebacker. Indeed, according to Stats, LLC, Davis has seven targets that have traveled more than 20 yards in the air; no other tight end has more than five. Of course, the 6-foot-7, 267-pound Davis has only caught two of these throws (for 46 yards and a Week 2 TD in a game the Bears were losing 23-3 to the Packers), so maybe I'm completely barking up the wrong tree. Indeed, catching eight passes on 18 total targets is a crummy conversion rate that might get Davis booted from the game plan. But it's at least interesting to note that the team seems to see the same things I've seen in Davis: that he's another one of these freak TE athletes. I'm not saying add him. I'm just saying let's see if he gets more involved." - Christopher Harris

  • This is why we're going to win, from Tice's mouth regarding Hester:
"We’re going to try to continue to grow his package. His package is going grow by the sheer fact that we lost Alshon this week.”

Isn't the internet a wonderful place?

  • In reply to jdawg:

If Hester's package is going to grow, they need to get advice from Maj. Pringles.

  • In reply to jdawg:

Haha, I though the same when I read it.

Won't a grown package slow him down? No wonder I could never win any races.

  • Any Bears fans going to the San Francisco game? If so let me know.

  • Green Bay -5

BAAAHAHAHAHAHA... did he make him wear shriveld balls too?

  • holy shit, now THAT is a beard:

  • BTW, on top of owning and maintaining (not) this miserable site, as of November 1, the Trib will now begin to charge for access to their site. If you want to read more than five articles a month, it'll cost you $15 per month....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    The trend is growing.

  • In reply to tobijohn:

If they try and charge me for THIS site, I may go postal.

  • In reply to tobijohn:

tobi......I got an email about that too damn!!!...Tell you what they can do with $15

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Growing up, we had the Chicago Tribune delivered every day, so I've been reading it ever since, well, ever since I could read. After 11/1/12 that tradition will officially end. While I generally enjoy Biggs, Pompei, McClure and Matt Bowen (I've been over Haugh for a long while) and checking out the local news and mugshots up there, for $180 per annum, I can live without it...

  • Colts

  • Minnesota +6

  • Soooo..... No takers on B. Marshall being Optimus Prime?

  • In reply to OsosFan:

Pretty sure that nickname needs to go to Briggs if it hasn't already...

    The dude destroyed Megatron.

  • Great Point, Artoo. Briggs is Prime. Done deal.

  • +1 Best nerd reference I've seen on the blog yet.

    Autobots bear down?

  • St. Louis, +5

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Yeah, shoulda went with the Jets, but.. but... butt fuck the Fudge

  • Green Bay -5

  • I have a good chance of winning either way, here. Either Green Bay wins and I get the +1, or they lose and I take joy in that. The only way my heart breaks is if Green Bay wins and doesn't cover.

  • That would half-work for me. But clearly, fudge loss is my best scenario

  • LMAO! Epic Rant. Has to be my #1 fav rant thus far, much like episode VI Star Wars was epic (I'm surprised the title got through the Jeff anti-cultural reference censor). The Rev must has used the bye well:

"Civil War era Secretary of State William Seward"

    What? Yeah, just hear it.

    I can see the resemblance.

  • Oakland - 4

  • has anyone posted this:

"I'm going to take Jay Cutler because the guy has a big arm," said Simms, who spent 14 seasons with New York Giants. "I like the fact that he is athletic and can move around. And he is not afraid to take chances. And he does not get to play, he does not have the benefit of playing in one of those pass-heavy offenses where you can put up all of these really fancy numbers, which are not that real. But his are real. And let's come down to this too - and I mean this as a compliment. He's mean. He's an angry guy. And I think angry is a big part of being a quarterback in the NFL."

Simple Phil..he's a "FUCKING BEAR" that's how we like our player's..angry!!!!!

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Simms has ALWAYS been a Cutler guy.

•!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damn posted on the thread and it never

  • You seem to be fond of Manhattans Waffle. What's your favorite recipe? I had some damn good ones in Antigua at the same piano bar several late nights in a row. I think the bartender was using brandy and whiskey. Does that make any sense, or was I already too buzzed to know?

  • In reply to TheFifth:

  • If I die in San Francisco for attending a game..

New Bear, find my family and sue the hell out of the 49ers till they trade Willis to the Bears and give us 2 billion dollars..

    That is all.

  • Artoo, regarding your post above, I will indeed be at the monday night game with the wife and some of her friends. We should attempt a meet up at some point, Bear Down.

  • On it. Make sure your last words are: "Argh... why did I believe that uniformed spokesperson for the team who assured me I would be safe attending this game without an escort or atypical precausions!" And if possible, follow it up with: "My wife just quit her job so I could take that seven figure job offer!"

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

  • I don't know if that last post of mine stuck cuz I don't see it now. It was a response to Artoo's above post regarding Bears-Niner game. In summary, I'll be there and we oughta meet up.

  • Fuck my life, none of my posts are sticking. They're being consumed by angry little hungry gnomes.

  • Oh great, now I look like a fucking psychopath.

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

Lately, it can take up to ten minutes before your post shows up. I sent an email this morning to the CN staff telling them that a lot of folks are getting pissed off to the point that they're leaving (i.e gpldan). I haven't heard anything from them and the fact that your latest posts are still delayed, I guess the staff isn't in, doesn't care or can't remedy the situation....

  • A message I sent to Jimmy "The Gnome" Greenfield.

I'm writing this email on behalf of the many people who frequent Da Bears Blog on Chicago Now. As I'm sure you're aware, we represent a rabid and loyal fan base of both the Chicago Bears and Jeff "Da Blogfader" Hughes. Many of us have been frequenting Jeff's blog multiple times daily for 6 years or more. Even during the offseason, a heavy contingent of regulars keep the page views high. I'm not sure how the other blogs perform, but judging by the comment count when I've checked other blogs, they pale in comparison to the number of posts daily on Da Bears Blog. Most of us view da blog as a virtual Cheers of sorts, where everybody knows your name. The conversations range from talking about our beloved bears, to politics, reiligion, current events, and personal matters. Indeed, the blog is a home away from home for many of us.

The reason I'm telling you all this, is because for the last week or so, da blog (Chicago Now) has suffered from serious technical issues. Many times the posts don't appear at all, or if they do, they show up an hour after posting. This makes conversing in the way that we usually do difficult if not impossible. In fact, here we sit in the prime of a season where are bears are 4-1 and playing very well, sitting proudly atop the NFC North, and I've watched the comment count drop from a yesteryear tally of 2-300 + posts per thread, to fewer than 100. I've already read where one of the regulars has become so fed up with the blogs inability to perform correctly, that he's left for greener pastures.

Not being a technical savvy person myself, I don't know what the current problems stem from, but I and my fellow Da Bears Blog brethren urge you to look into it. We love our Blog. It really is a fantastic place to hang out. I check the posts often. But lately, it's becoming more frustrating than rewarding. So please, please, help us fix our blog.

    Doc Nitty

To send a message yourself, his address is:

Let's flood this motherfucker's inbox until he gets it right.

  • You, sir, are a wordsmith. I forgot who wrote a polite e-mail last time, but it seemed to get the Gnome to fix the bugs last time, so hopefully it works again.

If he doesn't get it fixed by Mon, I'll write him too.

  • I believe that might have been me that kissed a bit of ass....

  • To Doc, John and everyone else,

Feel free to flood the motherfucker's inbox if you want but I promise you we understand why this is such a negative experience, we're taking this very seriously and we're working on it.

I wish I could give you an ETA for when it will be ready but all I can do is assure you I'm working with the tech team to get it fixed as soon as possible. We are sorry for the massive inconvenience and hope you'll remain patient.

    The Gnome

  • In reply to Jimmy Greenfield:

That's all we ask, Mr. Gnome, sir. Thank you very much.

  • Classic Doc, classic.

  • Doc, i think when it boils down to it the main issue facing Jimmy and his team is how to most effectively travel back in time to 1998 in order to consult with the team leader of the 8th grade computer science class that produced this ferrari of blog sites without changing the future somehow.

It's a tough issue but it will get ironed out sometime.

The Jags blog sites are top of the line and they fucking suck cock at football. cocksuckers.

  • Problem is, if they fix it, we'll end up with the jags colors for our unis. Unintended consequence of fucking with the past.

Oh, well... small price to fix this steaming piece of shit.

And Jimmy, don't be so sensitive maings. When your product is sucking, your customers are bound to let you know. Don't get all butt-hurt dude, it's just the way life is... fix it and you'll be a blog hero (for a couple days at least)

  • In reply to Jimmy Greenfield:

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

  • Tsk tsk Doc. It's "our" Bears not "are" Bears. Other than that, it was a brilliant, thoughtful, reasoned plea to fix the blog we all love.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Yeah, I know that. It was a silly mistake and I beg your pardon.

  • Well done Doc and thank you Jimmy. I do appreciate that you have a sense of humor. It helps around here.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I'm just glad Jimmy actually posted, then had to wait 10 minutes for his comment to appear, thus sharing our pain.

  • LOL....

  • +10... minutes

  • Also, we are the dream demographic. Male, loyal, between the ages of 18-100 (didn't the Ghost watch Luckman play?) with disposable income and global ties from Cali, Amsterdam to Thailand of all political, religious, and philosophic persuasions.

    Quite rare for any blog.

  • And loads of disposable income and plenty of time to kill. Did I mention that I buy at least one of everything that's advertised and viist all the touted sites mentioned in the right side bar?

Is there anyway i can go back into the blog archives and see what i picked in a given week? i know i'm not the only who made a pick or two, while under the influence.

  • In reply to Bearfanincb:

Not easily, no... someone did a nice thing in week 4 by posting links to each of the 1st three week pick posts. But other than that, it's basically go fish.

Jeff, actually it'd be nice if you assigned a special category to these pick posts... right now all DBB posts are "Uncategorized" but if you created a "Pick Contest" tag then people could more easily go back to old posts.

  • In reply to Bearfanincb:

4-1 (phi, cin, bu, den, ne) Atlanta New Orleans

  • Cleveland Browns

  • TB +3

  • Jeff, I think I read in a recent posts that you changed your mind and are now counting pushes as losses... is this correct? Thanks.

I almost took STL +5 this week instead, due to the push penalty (on +/-3) but... I figured what the hell... since I have the Bucs rated to win outright, screw it. Let's see how this goes...

(Sorry about making this a top-level post, but since my pick post hasn't appeared yet, I can't reply to it...)
