A Bye Week Football Viewer's Guide for Bears Fans

A Bye Week Football Viewer's Guide for Bears Fans

Pictured above: the Reverend, the blog tee shirt and Izzy Idonije.

Rooting interests:

  • Houston over Green Bay. Obviously. This Packers team simply can't lose enough for me.
  • Washington over Minnesota. I'm still shocked I have to keep track of who the damn Vikings are playing. I had them getting the first pick in the draft this year. The Vikings - outside the Favre years - have never really bothered me and I'd far rather battle them for a division title.
  • Philadelphia v. Detroit is an interesting one. I am going to root for Mike Vick and the Eagles even though that they may come back to haunt me in December due to the wild card implications. Detroit has just become the most unlikable group of individuals in the league.
  • I'm pulling for the 49ers over the Giants because I believe the 49ers are going to run away with the NFC West now and I would be terrified to see the Giants, and those guaranteed-to-wake-up-pass-rushers, in the post-season.
  • It's also an easy week to have fun rooting AFC over NFC as there are a bunch of match-ups. You want Patriots over Seahawks, Dolphins over Rams, Bills over Cardinals and - the longest of long shots - Raiders over Falcons. Nobody thinks wild card race in October...except for me.

Enjoy what should be a terrific, stress-free day of football games.

  • Nice picture.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    Great picture.

  • You guys are the only ones that can truly appreciate this. My birthday was last Tuesday, October 9th. My co-workers and I got into a discussion about famous people we share our birthday with, and through the power of Google I learned that on October 9th, 1958, Mike Singletary was born. The fact that I wore #50 in high school in honor of Singletary, and then at 36 to find out we share the same birthday was awesome. I know that this is the only place where a coincidence like this will get any respect. Thanks, Happy Bye Week, BEAR DOWN!

  • These are all the games I circled, esp that Lions-Eag one, which should be full of craziness.

  • On Discovery Channel, a guy is getting ready to do a space jump from about 130,000 ft. He crazy.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

People like that me a pain.

Like all those dead mountain climbers littering the slopes of Everest and K-2 and the like and the "Around the wWorld in A Hot Air Ballon " jokers.

    "Hot Air" is right,

They put themselves in harm's way for what?

    "Because it's there." ...?

SCREW them for the emotional wreckage they inevitably leave behind.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

He's in that special group of assholes with "The Crocodile Hunter". Died before his infant daughter was old enough to speak to him. I for one will never understand this type of person.

  • Shit still comes down at that altitude?

  • The DBB Pickem' League has got to be one of the most vexing things I've gotten myself involved with. You've got to have some sort of in with a sorcerer to make any headway. I might as well be throwing darts or picking my choices out of a hat blindfolded...

  • Especially this week. I'll be amazed if I have a single pick right.

And fuck the colts. You can beat the pack but then you let the jets roll over you? Come on!

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

I know, what's with that? It would be hard this year just to pick the winners straight up. The main DBB Picks contest has also turned out to be a travesty for me...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Seriously.. Four games correct so far for a whopping 17 points.

  • In reply to EnderWiggin:

How about one game with a whopping seven points? If Denver covers tonight, I'll have nine points for this week. I'm going to start picking teams by whose uniforms I think are the prettiest....

  • Not how I pictured the rev but a superb pic nevertheless Jeff.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Yeah I have a face made for internet podcasts.

  • It was great watching the Vikings lose today. That was the most important game of the day so far. The RG3 TD run was amazing.

The Lions - Eagles game was bizzarro world. The Lions looked like shit all day AGAIN, until the 4th quarter.

Gotta give a shout out to Russell Wilson. Great comeback victory. So now he's outplayed Rodgers and Brady in victories this as a rookie. Pretty impressive.

Tonight I want to see another ex-Badger, JJ Watt, beat Rodgers into the ground multiple times. And TE Owen Daniels shred the Packers secondary.

Congratulations to Montee Ball for breaking Ron Dayne's Big Ten TD record with his 72nd college TD yesterday. Unless he gets hurt, he should easily break the NCAA record for TD's this year.

On a Bears note, someone on NFL network yesterday put the Bear offensive line as one of the top five performing units last week. Granted it was against the Jags, but the Bears rushed for over 200 yards, gave up only one sack, and had over 500 yards of offense.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    1. Had a feeling Skins would win (hence why I chose them for the contest). Skins can beat, and lose, to anyone. Everyone wondered how Ponder would respond playing from behind, and he did OK - BUT, the skins d is decimated due to injuries. Their loss means clear cut #1 for Bears. All good.

    2. I knew that Lion's game was gonna be crazy (both teams are heart attacks waiting to happen). I was hoping the Eagles could pull it off, but hey, if anyone is going to crush the Meow's hope, it should be us.

    3. Montee Ball might end up in that draft slot for the Colts next year. How 'bout them apples?

    4. For one week, I give the Bear oline credit. With Chilo in, they seem to have steadied. Maybe his bad ass attitude rubs off on Webb nation.

  • Too bad the Raidah's couldn't quite pull of the win over Atlanta. Ryan is tough in their building.

But the season is still fairly young. And a certain Navy and Orange team leads its division. So far, so good.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I was following the game-cast. I thought the Raiders had them, until the Palmer pick 6. Why Palmer why?

  • Texans getting fucking jobbed 5 mins into this game.

  • Too early to drop an appropriate famous quote...?

    "Houston, we have a problem."

  • Glad the Texans decided to show up. Jebus. Now if their D can stop Rodgers...

  • Good lord, you know, if Atlanta wasn't at least going to cover the spread, they could have had the good grace to lose.

    F'in Philly sucks, too.

  • Packers kicking ass. Texans miss Cushing big time methinks.

  • Danieal Manning with a turrible, turrible penalty. Turrible.

  • In reply to Shady:

He was lucky not to get booted.

  • The refs are making sure GB wins this game. What a bunch of shitty calls tonight.

  • Texans giving this one to Green Bay. Oh well, at least the Vikes got knocked off their pedestal. The Bears got their work cut out for them. Ain't no "easy" games, to the end of the season.

  • In reply to MaddBearfan:

Unless of course you count the
Panthers, Titans, Cardinals, and two with the Lions and Vikings each. The Lions are a bad football team that is propped up on occasion by Calvin Johnson and the Vikes are a mirage about to expose itself for what it is. Those other three are awful. As for the other games, Niners, Texans, one left with the Pack, we'll see. Every team on the schedule has either proven itself to be bad or at least vulnerable. Barring significant injury to a few players I choose
not to name in order to keep the jinx at bay, the Bears are in very, very good shape. Fuck the Packers.

  • I remember when Alex Smith was the worst quarterback in football. He still is.

Having seen the results of this weeks games, there is no rhyme nor reason to them. Any given team can beat any other given team on any given Sunday.

  • Right on Irish....take nuthin for granted!!!! We're off to a good start, but still a lot of football to play..just take one game at a time. There are no gimmies.

  • In reply to MaddBearfan:

    Lovie.... is that you?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Shirly, you jest! I know, don't call you Shirly....

  • Moved all weekend, saw zero football. Wake up this morning to fucking bizzarro wold. Wtf happened out there. Thank god it was our bye week. Sweet 8lb baby Jesus.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Parity I suppose. Is anybody really surprised Alex Smith was exposed? I'm not. Texans missed Cushing. The shine might finally be coming off the Brady/Belicheat magic 8 ball. Michael Vick still sucks. Matt Stafford is still a lesbian. Clay Matthews is covered with so many needle tracks he looks like a freshly de-feathered turkey. There's the weekend in a nutshell MB. You're welcome.
