Thursday Night Game Thread & Picks Contest Bonus!

You have all failed miserably in your attempts to take advantage of the picks contest bonuses. Tonight I offer you, because I am a nice guy, another opportunity.

  • I want the total number of rushing yards for the Cleveland Browns. Not just Trent Richardson but the entire team.
  • Make your selection in its own comment, not in the body of another comment.
  • I'll give it to you if you're within one yard. So if you guess 70 yards, you'll be fine with anything from 69-71.
  • Pick must be in by kickoff.

Enjoy a nice bit of the AFC North and the first ever time referees will be applauded in the history of athletics.

  • HAHA! I just watched the game preview from the propaganda site and who is the question from this week? Thats right: Eric Grogan!
    Good job R2.

    4 minute mark

  • In reply to EnderWiggin:

Grogan has embraced the social element of the internet more than any human being alive.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

Do Androids dream of electric sheep?

Grogan: first human to get a twitter implant. Resistence is futile...

  • I am everywhere..The suit isn't just fo show.

  • When Skynet becomes self aware, it will start wearing a Superman outfit.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Time for the theme (and Erik's ringtone)

  • In reply to gpldan:

    That still gives me goosebumps..

If it wasn't for copyright laws.. That would be theme song for the rest of my life.

Btw, is anyone impressed with the trailer for the new Superman? I was very impressed and I love the cast. Hans Zimmer will be doing the music for that movie.

Will be a little weird not hearing this in a Superman movie.

  • How many total bonuses have been hit so far?

  • In reply to reprisal:

Coach guessed Mannings passing yards a while back...

  • In reply to reprisal:

I thought Crown nailed the first one.

Had my usual Thursday lunch with one of my oldest and bestest friends at our usual haunt and we had to TRY and digest our Chicago dogs right under the TV which was tuned to the 4-Letter as they were trotting out talking head after talking head who were spinning the SAME basic line of BS.

Namely that the end of the lockout was some kind of giant VICTORY for the Refs Association and a HUGE blow to the NFL and Roger Goodell.

And tomorrow the SUN will rise in the WEST!

The winner was the same one it usually is: The NFL.

Did the Refs get their pension plan?
Only temporarily. It freezes in 2016 and that's only for CURRENT zebras. Newbies get the defined plan.

    JUST like the NFL WANTED.

And there will be new, backup crews, AKA "Screw up enough and we can replace you in a heartbeat" .

    JUST like the NFL WANTED.

So there is Mark "I think my crap doesn't stink DESPITE my nickname" Schlereth spewing bile about how the NFL is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, and GREEDY and blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada.

Brilliant, Mark.! LIke you JUST figured that out?

These are the SAME people who once put their precious brand on replacement PLAYERS and just played on! 47 "Guys named Joe" masquerading as Lions and Packers and Bears, Oh My!

You think it took them more than a NANOSECOND to decide to use replacement OFFICIALS?! And you just NOW figured out that the owners are all about THE MONEY?

Pathetic. WORSE than pathethic. IMBECILIC! Even DUMBER than you look. You need TUTORING just to qualify for pathetic, Schlereth.

Oh and a POX upon YOUR self-righteous, mostly the same as Markie's, blather too, Steve Young.

Then they trotted out some pseudo-journalistic mope named Dave Ziron (?) from THE NATION (what?) who was railing about the hit Roger Goodell's rep took in all this.

The Nation? Really? Oooooh. I 'm REALLY impressed because I thought they'd gone the way of the Rocky Mountain News.

Puh-lease. You think Roger "I make more in a month or 2 than most people make in a lifetime" Goodell gives a rat's ass about what the FANS think of him? Or what the TALKING HEADS think of him? Or what the PLAYERS think of him? HELL, NO!

Roger's only worried about pleasing 32 people. The 31 that actually OWN NFL franchises and whomever gets to call the shots on behalf of the publically-owned Packers. And he doesn't even have to please ALL of THEM because I bet it would take more than just a simple majority to fire him.

And are the owners PLEASED with Roger?

    Well DUH!.

They've got a TEN year deal with the players, EIGHT years with the Zebras and replacements or no, ratings are UP!

And I submit if the Zebras were STILL holding out for that "traditional" pension plan that included the new guys, they'd STILL be locked out because, bottom line, even the so-called "real" officials could have BLOWN that call and eveybody KNOWS it.

So what did the Real Zebras do?

They TOOK CARE OF #1, of course!

They got THEIRS and passed the dirty end of the stick on to those who will follow them.

Kind of like the U.S. Congress does.

    How NOBLE!

The geese were also honking about "What if that call cost the Packers a playoff spot or home field advantage, wah, wah, wah?"

    So what?

Ain't the first time it's happened and it sure won't be the LAST.

Ask Seattle who, over the years have watched the Zebras cost them a playoff spot AND a SUPER BOWL game!

Ask the Colts who had the Packers beat in the 1965 NFC playoffs until a Don Chandler OBVIOUSLY wide right field goal attempt was called "good" by some visually challenged zebra (who probably lived in LaCrosse or Kenosha) and sent the game into an overtime that the Packers won.

And SHUT UP Packer fans, 'cause I don't want to hear it.

WATCH the film. It's out there. Even Mr. Chandler knew he'd shanked it because he IMMEDIATELY lowered his head and walked away.

So the first of those 3-in-a-row-Lomabardi Championships was TAINTED.

You gonna give it back? I didn't THINK so.

So you're STUCK with Monday night.

Karma's a bitch and what goes around, comes around even after 47 years.

As usual, other than THAT I have no opinion on these matters.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Can't argue with a damn word Al.

  • In reply to Shady:

I swear, guys, it was like an AVALANCHE of crap and sheer stupidity pouring out of the TV and over my balding, graying head. I'm probably just lucky that it wasn't it HD.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

  • In reply to Shady:

UNFORTUNATELY, Shady, that is NOT a bad likeness.

    Were at Luke's today?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I like it, Al. The rant, I mean.

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

    En FUEGO, I say!

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

Thank you, Ben. That crap went on for over an hour. I had to vent. Credit where credit due as the rant contains some of my buddy's input on the matter, as well.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Well done Al. That was some great reading, and thanks for the history lesson. I'll have to use that Packers history against all the whiny bitches crying in WI all week, starting tomorrow.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Al, tell me it was Luke's and not Kenny D's!

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Luke's on Ft. Lowell.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Did you know THE WILDCAT HOUSE?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Drove by tons... Almost went in once in college, but there was a cover. Cover charges are not allowed in Tucson.

Spent an entire summer going to the Golden Nugget, then the Ft Lowell Luke's, then back to the nugget.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

It's HISTORY. Closed their doors, on zero notice, this summer.

Bum Steer's been empty for several years, too.

If this economy's IMPROVING we ain't seein' it in Tucson.

Of course, the Mickey Mouse Club government in this town is virtually NO help to a businessman even in BETTER economic times.

I'll have to see if THE NUGGET is still there.

  • In reply to Shady:

  • In reply to Shady:

    Or Cee High Green

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That's at least TWO of us.

I don't listen to much hip hop these days but when I was younger I was a big fan of Goodie Mob, the group in which he got his start. Actually some pretty good stuff out of Atlanta circa 90's.

Hanging in maing, thanks for asking mate. Drive safely. It will be worth it. Nice to see the country on your way.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Child PLEASE!

You wouldn't take him over fucking weems or hester? fuck me.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I am actually really intrigued on how Jeffery and Marshall are going to turn out.

At the beginning of the season, I would have put money down that Bennett or Hester would have more yards receiving than Jeffery. The kid can play.

  • I told you guys about him. Yes, he can play. At South Carolina, he never had a QB. Maybe for most of this season he will, but that depends on Jay.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

When Jay targets Jeffrey, we move the chains. Sometimes I think Jay zeros onto Marshall cause he knows that if he doesn't get him going early, Marshall will kinda zone out.

Unfortunately, every D we play knows this too.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

He's basically a TE now. Kinda like Ward toward the end of his career.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Let me show you how it's done!

  • rushing yards at 41 right now btw

  • Weeden looks okay, he really does. One bad decision/throw, and a lot of things that make me think he has some promise. Poise, and for the most part, brains. Two good things for a QB to have.

  • Alshon 9 rec, 132 yds, 1 TD
    Blackmon 4 rec, 31 yds, 0 TD
    Floyd 1 rec, 9yds, 0TD

  • Floyd got a TD against the Iggles didn't he?

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Yes. Don't know why the site didn't put that.

    So, 1 rec, 8yd, 1 TD.

  • This is the list of first year eligible and past finalists for the hall of fame (players only):

    First Year Eligible:

    Past Finalists

Here are my five winners from the above list.

Larry Allen, Chris Carter, Tim Brown, Charles Haley, Roger Craig

There are many others that I think deserve serious consideration, but to trim the list down, I included only first year eligible and past finalists. The only player from the first year finalists that I think deserve to be first ballot is Larry Allen. Though Jonathon Ogden wouldn't be bad either, and maybe even Sapp (despite his public douchiness).

The fact that Charles Haley and Chris Carter are not in is an absolute sin if you ask me.

  • I'm sure Haley got to all those Super Bowls and Carter caught all those passes by ACCIDENT.

    Yeah, THAT's what it is!

  • Larry Allen, Ogden, and Sapp are locks IMO

  • Roger Craig! The Forte of the 90s.

He won't get in, but I always liked him and Tim Brown. Aeneas Williams too (the Champ Bailey of yore).

  • "You have all failed miserably in your attempts to take advantage of the picks contest bonuses."

Anyone else feel like you got called into the principal's office?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

yeah jeff... the contests are ridiculous maings. No one will ever get it right on the dot.

Doc, what is the likelihood please?

Jeff, gotta give a much wider berth on each end... maybe within 10 yards, 3 points, etc...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

yeah it should totally be easy for me to buy you a hotel room.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

    that was funny

  • 9 catches 131... can anyone in the class tell me who's numbers these are?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Clearly reads the blog and GP got him fired up.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

can you guys imagine marshall, jeffery, AND boldin?

    Jesus, frightening.

  • Jeff's Bonus Kiss of Death, strikes again.

Browns' total rushing yds = 47
