Reverend's Rant & Week Two Picks Contest

Reverend's Rant & Week Two Picks Contest

The Week's Lines.

  • You only pick one team against the spread.
  • Once you select the team they are unavailable to you for the remainder of the season.
  • It is NOT a survival pool. The highest winning percentage at Week 15 will be awarded the prize. If there are ties, we'll decide in Weeks 16 and 17 by increasing the number of games selected incrementally.
  • You don't need to pick every week. But you must make ten selections between Week One and Week Fifteen. If you picked in Week One you do not need to pick in Week Two if you don't like the games.
  • Picks are due by kickoff of the early games Sunday. Picks will only be accepted in the comments of THIS post.

Anyone else still bitter? anyone else wanna beat the ass of the next guy who asks you "What happen with them Bears?" fuck man cause I sure as hell do. Horrible fucking game. I hate the fuckin packers....

A lil late on the rant but god damn I cant let that lost go.

  • We got embarrassed as a team, and I got embarrassed as a fan.

  • Yes we did. Move on maings... nothing else you can do.

But i will tell you this... Dec 16th is going to be a day of snowy glory my maings.

  • Nola -2.5

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wait, I think I just fucked that up. Does that mean I think Carolina will lose by 2.5 or less?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

No. It means you think New Orleans will win by more than 2.5

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

thank you sir. That's what I thought. psyched myself out there. You see how much I gamble.

  • San Francisco 7

  • There are no trophies given out after only the second game of the season.

  • Seattle +3.5

  • Indy -2

  • In reply to lindemrm:

  • Detroit +7

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

Does this fucker ^ get to play?

  • Washington -3.5

  • Baltimore +2.5

  • Indy +2

  • Only 10 days my ass...maybe for you...I got to listen(all in fun of course) to my brother in law and my tennant for the next four months till we play the Pack( who incidentally played a great game) in Dec.
And I too am ready for another game to see how they do.

  • Two gems from Canada on the last thread:

"I'm allergic to alcohol. When I drink I brake out in handcuffs"

    "Just say, Fuckinay"

I really like the second one. Think I'll make that my personal motto.

  • Just say, fuckinay. Since I don't reall know you, and hence, am never around you, Im going ahead and adopting that one myself.

  • Thanks Doc. Always trying to have few laughs every day. You'd love that T-shirt. Needless to say my friend was very funny (and very creative). If we ever get together I'll make a point to bring it.

  • Cincinnati.

  • I greatly appreciated this, Shady:

If anyone needs help understanding them, you know, if you're really really bored and want to take a walk on the geek side, let me know.

  • Very good, liked numbers 10 and 15 myself. I can sadly say that there are a few folk I know that would easily repeat what was done in 15.

  • 11, 14, & 18 are hilarious.

  • @KahlilBell32
I'm taking my talents back to Chicago. So happy to be back. Never wanted to leave.

  • Beats the snot out of Slaton or Allen!

  • I'm assuming ego or bad advice from his agent was involved in his original decision. If he took the pay cut, he would have likely been on the opening day roster and had $700K guaranteed. Now he's playing for the league minimum ($615K) with no guarantee....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

I'm sure it's tough to take a half million dollar pay cut. I'm sure he thought someone would pick him up right away. Reality is a cruel mistress.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

True enough, part of him probably thought the Bears were pulling a fast one on him but almost all these players acknowledge the business end of pro football can be a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I'm going to assume his agent told him he could get a better deal elsewhere....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

No kidding. I can't imagine going from great money to $0 in a few minutes. Glad he's back. If he hangs onto the ball he's a great addition.

  • Seattle, +3.5

  • homer

  • Carolina +2.5

  • Oakland -2.5

  • I got news for you, Reverend. It's more like 17 days (15 now), because a win against the Lambs proves nothing.

  • Proves nothing, but I know I'll feel better afterwards.

  • Hope everyone has calmed down now.

It wasn't as bad as the Giants game. It was not as bad (in my opinion) as the NFC Championship game. It wasn't as bad as the game against the 49ers a few years back.

Remember when we went to the championship game? We got humped 36-7 off of NE at home in week 14, Jay throwing for 152 and 2 ints, Forte getting 25 yards on 9 carries. That was worse than this and look where we ended up.

As long as we go into the bye with at least 3 wins we're right on track. Keep the faith.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed - some perspective....

  • Washington -3.5

  • Oakland -2.5

  • Been ruminating over what I saw last Thursday.

Anyone who has seen my posts since I've been a regular here knows that I have always been a Jay Cutler Advocate.

Heretofore, I thought the bulk of the criticism leveled at him was unwarranted, PARTICULARLY the "He bailed in the NFC Championship " nonsense.

But if I have to accept his "performance" Thursday night as part of "Learning to Live With Jay Cutler" I cry, "Bullshit"!

That was MELTDOWN, boys and girls pure and simple.
A meltdown against the LAST team on the planet we want to SEE a meltdown.

Protection was lousy. Well DUH, like that was some kind of SURPRISE? Rodgers' protection was no better.

Instead of finding a way to win behind a defense that gave you multiple opportunities to do so, you spent the night putting that defense behind the 8 ball.

And, I'm sorry the bulk of the media are jerks. Too bad. It comes comes with the territory. Deal with it. His post-gamer was lame. I didn't feel he took much responsibility at all but I went into that in depth on an thread post so , 'nuff said.

He grew up a Bear fan so he KNOWS what comes with being their QB.

He can put up all the gaudy numbers you want against the Rams, Jags, Lions, Vikes, etc.

It was time to, at last, show us something against GREEN BAY and sorry, but he "Spit the bit" and THAT was the most disappointing thing I took away from a very disappointing game.

I do not question his courage.

I do not question his skill.

But Thursday night HAS to call into question his leadership and THAT concerns me.

But, other than that, I have no opinion in this matter.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

well said Al. Agree with everything about your very balanced and fair assessment.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Agree 100% Al. I've always made excuses for Cutler (most of them were legit in my mind) but he went way over the line the other night. Hopefully someone in authority or someone he respects has a talk with him. That behavior and his play was unacceptable. Time to grow up and be a leader.

  • Dallas -3.5

  • So, tried playing some G&D... Ugh.

Three games and quit. Best game was -6. It's going to bet quite a learning curve, I hope.

Be on tonight if you folks feel like an ego boost: "petrillionaire"

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Don't know what Willie Gault's call sign is yet and I can't remember which blog brother uses the callsign widowmaker505, but he's one of us also. I think most of us have claimed the clan tag: GSH

    Gems & Dragons

  • WIWG: petrillionaire

Petrillo, like the band shell and Estelle Getty from Golden Girls.

    Gems only.

  • Even better, Doc, got a screen capture from my iphone. I will find you guys soon. Thank you, sir

  • Now I know how to find yall! I'm gonna lurk on you guys like #16! Just kidding, hope to be a valuable member of your oniline death-squad.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

I'm on now if you want some 1:1 tips? MB30SD

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • Hey at least our defense still has it.

  • Ice cold beer cant even wash out that shit taste from that embarrassing lost.

  • Try about nine more Fres, and see if that does it for you.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Reminds me of the guy that goes into the bar and has a half dozen shots of tequila. The bartender asks "What are ya celebrating?" The guy responds, "My first blowjob". The bartender replies, "let me give you one on the house". The guy says, "No thanks, if 6 didn't get the taste out of my mouth one more won't make any difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Boo-Yah!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    THAT was fucking funny.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Half of that was doin it for me, Dave. I'm ready for those goats from St. Louie

  • Colts +2

  • I'm over that shit and ready to roll 2 in a row heading into the bye week. If they adjust and improve then everything is cool since we're 1 and 1. Heading into the bye at 3-1 is huge.

Tranquilo pinche bendejos. It's one game and i'd rather have the realization that changes need to be made after game 2 instead of game 6.

We'll be fine. Now it's time to celebrate bitches, it's the weekend.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    with you.

And it's BANdejos (yes, I'm kidding fres)

  • In reply to Waffle:

    Always love the waffle-perspective, and I agree....Next!

  • rabbit, where you ats maings??? you ok dude? moving?

  • here you go shady:

  • Baltimore +2.5

  • Just realised something important- I think I'm #16. I'm always that guy lurkin on the blog on late west coast time after everyone's asleep. Just simply askin for 2 OL and a safety, baby. And surely no one will see this as jefe will have a gameday thread up in the am, im just bein 16ish anyway

  • Whatever happened to that guy? Last I remember he was mixing vicodin and beers, couldn't have gone to any really good places starting from there.

  • Bill Barnwell column on Cutler.

  • Cincinnati

  • Buffalo

  • San Diego -6.5

  • Been licking my wounds since the loss like most of you, and have read past blogs and the crap newspapers. I watched every second of the game, and I have no problem with Cutty. Yes he sucked donkeys, but I am more disappointed with the POS offensive game plan. The man who ate Tice apparently also ate Martz, as I thought I was watching a taped game from 2 yrs ago. Why the fuck are we starting these games with deep drop pass pls ? Run the
pill and get our team settled and establish a physical game plan.

  • Pittsburgh - 4

  • NO PICK... I'm abstaining this week...

So many trap picks this week, dangerous when so many teams have yet to show their true colors. I almost pulled the trigger on Kansas City +3.5 as a value pick that's "safe"... but just couldn't quite do it. Waiting for next week...

[NO PICK] Just to reiterate =)

  • In reply to Michael L:

Jeff, to follow up from last week: So if I understood you correctly, then 8-1-1 would be a win% of 8/9, or 88.89%... correct?

I assume also that the 10 entry minimum qualifier is before dropping the pushes, so the 8-1-1 example would qualify someone, right? (This does open up the rare possibility of someone winning the contest by going 1-0 with 9 pushes, haha... but I guess that's pretty damn unlikely to happen...)

    Thanks for the clarification!

  • KC + 3.5
