  • Let this be my first reminder to not feed it when it shows up.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    noted

  • In reply to Waffle:

i just wish i could choke him a little, for 10 seconds or so just to see the fear and panic set in then I'd let go. My friends and I call it "catch and release".

  • In reply to Waffle:

    literally lol. Thanks Johnny!

  • In reply to SC Dave:

+1,000. I detest those space wasting exchanges.

  • I would just like to say that I am very excited for the Bears game tonight. Bear down! Hahahahahah! I predict DJ Moore will play well and his hair will be creatively prepared.

Waffle - Please do not share the sexual games/crimes you and your finance friends play while the rest of the country is actually working hard. Please also take some time from blogging and go pay your fair share of the United States tax. You and your finance friends should stop the leaching and blood sucking from the good honest American's. We are tired of bailing you out Waffle. Go back to Belgium. Hahahaha!

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

as long as my post gave you an adequate amount of validation or attention that kept you from killing yourself for another day I guess I can count that as a success.

    +1 for Waffle

  • In reply to Waffle:

    Waffle: Humanitarian! Friend to all!

    +10 Waffle!

  • Four players on the bubble and four players to keep your eyes on vs the Redskins http://chicagofootballtalk.com/3Cj #Bears

Man, I am going to miss Urlacher. All I think about is if Ray Lewis can keep playing after all of his injuries and age then Urlacher might be able to do the same.

  • Thanks for posting that video by the way, classic.

  • In reply to Shady:

Fucking gnome code. I'm done until kickoff.

  • Who in the he'll takes the third game of preseason like it's bills hit? Bullshit!

    Oh, wait.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Fucking auto correct.

  • After watching some Olines yesterday, I'm actually feeling a little better about ours, if that's possible. That Raider-Cards game in particular was a cluster-fudge. Those QBs were getting DRILLED. The Raiders nearly got safety, then on the very next play, did get safetied. The Raider's DT Kelly ran off the field screaming, "That boy's scarred!" (Not looking good for Kolb). Then, to make things worse, The Cards LT Levi Brown tore his triceps. Palmer looked under fire too. So much so that he kept throwing it to Streater almost exclusively while running for his life.

That Lions-Ravens game was also unusually dirty and intense for a preseason game. Those QBs took some hard hits too. I think that was due to that whole hand-shake fiasco from brother Harbaugh and Duchayne last year. At the end, it looked like Raven-Harbaugh didn't want to shake Duchayne's hand. Funny.

I would theorize that the Ds have the upper-hand right now because they're beginning to blitz, and O's aren't game planning specific blitz pick-up packages, so the heat is on.

So my fellow Bear brethren, just keep that in mind whilst watching our beloved tonight.

(Not that I'm making pre-packaged excuses for our Oline cuz you all know how I feel about them, esp our LTs).

  • * meant, Raider's D almost got a safety, then on the very next play, did get a safety.

  • "scared" not "scarred". Need another cup of joe...

  • Found this Clayton article about the demise of the Cover 2 interesting...

"Leaguewide, the Cover 2 looked outdated in 2011. Rules to protect defenseless receivers have allowed smaller receivers such as Philadelphia's DeSean Jackson to run the middle of the field with limited fear of being physically blown up by a safety. Offensive coordinators continue to spread the field with four and five pass-catchers. Good pass-catching tight ends have become as important as great outside wide receiver threats.

This preseason, the response from defensive coordinators appears to be more man-to-man. As I traveled to training camps this summer, I noticed more teams implementing man-to-man concepts. Several teams are trying more press coverage at the line of scrimmage. The Cover 2 isn't dead, but teams that don't have the ability to switch between man and zone coverage based on their opponents' personnel are in trouble."

I guess someone should tell Clayton that pre-season observations are meaningless though lol

    5 Kam Chancellor SEA +11.4

  • Ugh. Horrible.

  • Sitting here listing to Schubert's Trout Quintet after a long morning walk in the forest, and it felt like next to nothing could be wrong with the world.

Then, I think NFL preseason. Hmm...

    Oh sweet reverie!
Lost to thoughts of Bears LTs
    And now - mere ennui.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

+1 on the Schubert and the rhyming haiku.

You seem inspired. I'm sure Webb and Williams will fix that...

  • If you guys want to relax after watching Webb give up five sacks then listen to Phillip Wesley.

Great composer and very soothing. Something I am sure MB will need after this game. lol

  • More hardcore data...

2011 left tackles PFF, over all grade

    The Best

1 LT Jason Peters PHI +27.6
2 LT Eugene Monroe JAX +14.6
3 LT Duane Brown HST +12.3
4 LT Joe Thomas CLV +11.5

30 LT Marshall Newhouse GB -40.5 (Last in NFL)

  • Goes to show that GB makes up for a lot of O-line mistakes with weapons and good qb play.

  • Yup. Being in the same system, developing chemistry with big play weapons, bootlegging and audibling for like 6 years can make up for some bad LT play.

We're a little behind the 8-ball in all those departments, however, we got Forte/Bush, unlike the Pack or Lions.

  • Something deep down tells me we picked up Bush so he wouldn't got play for GB or DT.

I could be wrong but damn.. why didn't Bush go to a place where he could have started?

  • Or Campbell too. Look how horrible the QBs in Ariz and a few other places looked. Can't tell me Campbell wouldn't be a huge upgrade over Kolb or Skelton.

If Emery did indeed play keep away (along with Shea), that's addition by subtraction - like raiding another team's roster, which he wanted to do to with Avril.

Maybe the Cards will smarten up and realize that Skelton's 52% completion rating isn't gonna get it done in the NFL (and that's with Fitz!). They also lost a LT. Package Campbell and Webb for a 1st and call it a day.

  • A man can dream....

  • Oh, btw Artoo, your email got lost in all my FB notifications somehow, so I wasn't snubbing you. I think I just gotta change my FB settings cuz they spam the fuck out of my gmail by notifying me about every little commented or post.

I read your latest article and it's pretty good. You have a few punctuation issues, specifically with "conjunctions", but I'll email you that later (though not today - it's Bear Day).

But like someone else on here said. Edit. Edit. Edit.

Good stuff though. Is that the same site YourBoyRoy works out of?

  • Yep. Thanks for the advice and I will work on it.

  • Hey, I did a ninja edit on your latest article. It should be in your Email. Let me know if you have any specific questions like "what do you mean by active verbs" etc.

Like I said, it's a bit difficult to offer writing tips over the internet, but I'll try.

Also, don't hold any of my BearBlog posts against my English Skeelz, a chef doesn't cook on his day off! lol

  • Did you say active herbs?

  • In reply to gpldan:

That would be "Professor Green Thumb."

  • mmmbearssss

  • Mongo for Mayor!
    http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/8275704/former-chicago-bears-steve-mongo-mcmichael-said-running-mayor?ex_cid=2012_local_ob_chi_ban_lnk

  • You know what I want to see at least once in preseason?

I want to see this oline formation.

    Webb-Williams-Edwin-Garza-Louis-Carimi.

Maybe Webb and Williams suck individually, but when put together, they may make one solid LT.

  • smh

  • Link?

  • This site worked for me last week.

    http://atdhe.eu/football

  • This one's pretty good

    http://www.vipbox.tv/watch/64705/2/nfl-pre-season---washington-redskins-vs-chicago-bears-live-stream-online.htm

  • Real WRs, fuckin' A.

  • Lance Briggs trucked first play of the game.

  • Bears dropped Shea McClellan into coverage on that 3rd and long.

  • Is it wrong to have a boner after that series?

  • In reply to Vicp71:

That, ladies and gentlemen, is how we do that.

  • TD! Now that's what I call CHEMISTRY. Clutts and Louis totally sealed that off for Bush.

But I guess it's meaningless, right?

  • Speath with a nice block as well.

  • Jeff says it's meaningless, so it must be meaningless. Buy it sure was fun to watch.

  • Garza pulled and sealed on the TD run as well.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

We're really good at pulling (that's what she said!)

Something we didn't do in the 1st game cuz I think Tice wanted to get a read on the Oline.

  • The Bears are the best contain D in the NFL.

They're playing the "Vick Package". Whatever throwing hand a running QB has, Pepp is lining up on that side.

But now Shea might take some of those reps. Glad to see they dropped him back in coverage and blitz.

  • Briggs is getting owned so far.

  • In reply to Vicp71:

    He'll be fine.

  • In reply to Shady:

I remember him playing like crap last preseason too

  • Chris Specncer late on the blitz pickup.

  • I like the tenacity from Alshon, don't back down rook.

  • In reply to Shady:

    bingo

  • i'd like to see Jay on the sideline now.

  • Spencer is sucking balls.

  • I have long admired your flair for understatement, 4ever.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    haha...right on cue, Chilo in.

  • Spencer is playing a new position, with less than three weeks of practice.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

He was moved to G last year and even started a few games at G.

Everyone was raving about him in camp. Guess he's the Hanie of Olinemen.

  • boh-ner

  • In reply to Waffle:

Bush in the hole getting slippery.

  • In reply to Shady:

slippy slippy, he juked so hard i dropped my rum and coke

  • In reply to Shady:

He's always trying to bang it into a gaping hole.

  • OK time to take the starters out now.

  • I think I have Michael Bush on all of my FF teams. It's going to be a beautiful year. Go Izzy.

  • Dang, Swole is Swole!

Pepp and Briggs need to sit. In fact, a lot of starters need to sit, but for sure them. And Glass Wright.

  • I think Marshall tweaked the left hand. Ruh Roh.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    correction...he did not.

  • Peppers, Izzy, Toeina, Melton out now. Time to see if Collins, McCargo, Price, Pressley, Davis, Wootton, Gibson, etc make the team.

  • take them out right now. Izzy playing like a contract is on the line. nice!

  • In reply to Waffle:

He is playing like a beast tonight!

  • Fuckin Peppers... how did we get that guy?

  • In reply to SC Dave:

MB would NOT like the answer to that rhetorical question...

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Angelo saw the end game and had to make a move. Ironically, after all of his fuckups the thing that got him canned was Cutler getting hurt. We would have made the playoffs with the skill of Cutler and Forte on their own and Glitchy would have somehow remained.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    And probably Mike Martz.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

6'7 295 oh my god. last year a DE Nick Reed on our team was 6'4 235 and Peppers was faster and quicker...and better and a future hall of famer.

  • In reply to Waffle:

worth every penny of that contract. I forgot what we gave him but it was higher than the GDP of the Ivory Coast.

  • Ok, so Bush is good too :-)

But not sure I'm all keen on forcing to Marshall. Give me Earl.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Marshall 1-on-1 with smurf corner? All day!

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    ask and you shall receive.

  • On the second TD, Carimi hit his man, then ran inside to the hole and hit a guy where Bush was running.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

So before going in for the hole he found some man-action before sniffing out the Bush?

  • i'm not asking this because i'm a homer. i really want to know. Is Gould the greatest kicker the Bears have ever had?

  • In reply to Waffle:

    According to my Bears calendar (Christmas present), on the page for today;

in 2009 Robbie made 24 of 28 FGs in 2009 to take 4th in Bears all-time history. "(Gould owend the No. 1, No. 2, and No.3 spots, too)"

So yeah, greatest Bears kicker ever works for me.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    Statistically speaking, yes.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Butler was pretty clutch and highly accurate. When Gould gets ring, yes. Right now I consider them tied. But that's just me.

  • Rings are team things. Robbie all the way.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Gould's got a kick at least one in the SB. Statistically, Cutler is better than the Punk, but got to win them when they count, at least in my book.

We're gonna find out this season about both.

  • NFC championship Game vs. Seachickens I think, in OT? That one counted.

  • RG3 getting a lot of work

  • These Ref's suck a bag of donkey dicks!

  • In reply to Vicp71:

yeah, they might get a talking to about a pass interference call out of bounds.

  • In reply to Waffle:

At the spot of the foul. They should have placed the ball on the bench.

  • Peppers almost had that block

  • Odds on the fans booing Grossman? Guarenteed?

  • Lovie just told Conte to stop being a pussy.

  • pep just missed blocking that field goal

  • In reply to Waffle:

Peppers should not be playing at this point, but yeah, he did.

  • podlesh fucking hurt??

    Starting FS...out
    Starting punter and Gould's holder...out
Starting WLB Briggs...leaves game with injury

    not liking these developments

  • not happy that Conte hurt his shoulder. looks like a separation.

  • In reply to Waffle:

What are you, the grim reaper?

Let's wait a bit. All of the injuries can be minor.

    Mr. Myagi cures all!

  • Chicken Dinner time

  • In reply to gpldan:

Hey GP, I missed how he got the Chicen Dinner tag. 'splain please.

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Its the name of the road he grew up on.

  • Scrappy sighting!

  • I like this guy we traded up for.

  • Alshon nice catch man

  • In reply to gpldan:

Yeah man. A smurf would not make that catch. Thia kid looks damn good so far. Meaningless as that is.

  • Toub is gonna punch somebodys face in

  • Please let us keep Chris Summers.

  • That's the guy I've been cheerleading for all camp. Doesn't play specials though, I don't think, but no way we're gonna be able to stash him away on the practice squad.

  • Great. Podlesh limps off. Is it too late to trade for Graham?

  • Shanny is taking the whole red skin thing seriously

  • In reply to gpldan:

    hahaha

  • Lorenzo Booker looking like The Windy City Flyer on that kickoff return for TD.

  • In reply to Shady:

You think Toub had a little talk with them at half time?

That 3rd RB battle just got a little more interesting.

  • We may have lost both our white bread free safties

  • Why the fuck are the Bears safties trying to make the big hit every time? WRAP THE FUCK UP! PROTECT YOURSELF, FUCK!

  • In reply to Shady:

Both Conte and Hardin hurt themselves tonight trying to tackle with their head and shoulders. What the hell is Hoke teaching these guys?

  • In reply to Shady:

    *down

  • Hardin you dumb fuck, quit leading with your head!

  • Conte, now Hardin. Uh oh.

  • That was one hell of a return by Booker!

  • I loved Sam Rosen when he played Mick in the Rocky movies

  • Man our safeties are brittle.

  • Happens when you draft a corner and make him a free safety

  • neck or concussion for Hardin. I hope its a concussion. not good.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Looks like a bad neck injury.

  • In reply to Vicp71:

Ambulance on route according to twitter.

  • In reply to Vicp71:

don't think so, he was making hand gestures as if to say, "why are you carrying me off on the cart with 40 dudes around me?"

  • In reply to Waffle:

Hope its just a bad stinger. Hardins can be a starter this season.I like the kids size. Just needs to be taught how to tackle. and if he stays healthy.... IF he stays healthy......damn it.

  • Neil Rackers, the man who sealed the greatest Bears comeback I've ever seen Monday Night in 2006. You think he and Rex ever bring it up? hehe

  • Wow they finally got Rodriguez's name right! Sheesh One of the commentators kept calling him "Adam," Really Lol

  • I say again, these Ref's suck an even bigger bag of donkey dicks!

  • Shit... now Constanzo. And I just got done saying he was not sucking. In fact, his name was getting called a lot.

  • Constanzo not sucking.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    Better than Dom Desucko

  • That kid Summers woud start for the Dolphins. Hope he gets looked at over Sanzenburger. He bout had that TD while double covered. great size. This is (on paper) the best offensive talent (except the beloved Sweetness) that I've ever seen on this team. From the moment they take the field in game 1, Jay and Marhall are going to light teams up this year. Best WR corp the Bears have ever had. Yes the kool aid tastes soooooo good. Even during meaningless games. Bear the fuck Down!

  • In reply to BAM46Blitz:

BAM, i'm confused. He dropped two TD's. I wanted him too but you can't just drop 2 TD's and beat out another guy. Let's see what happens in the next 2 games.

  • In reply to BAM46Blitz:

Sorry Bam. that's all she wrote for Summers. Two dropped TD's and a fumble when they could ice the game. Coaches won't look too kindly on that.

  • In reply to Waffle:

But those passes weren't from Cutty. That's a legit excuse right? fuck! You're right though. He shit the bed.

  • The injuries to :

    Conte
    Hardin
    Costanzo
    Podlesh

have taken the fun out of the game.

Podlesh possibly missing as a holder for Gould is what concerns me the most and Conte with a shoulder issue is very concerning. fuck.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Honestly, none of the injuries seemed serious to me, even the Hardin one.

Two-three weeks off. Walk it off. Put some Nyquil on it. Just suit up for the Pack, gentlemen.

  • Podlesh hip injury is worrisome for a punter. He is also Gould's holder so i'll keep my fingers crossed. Conte either has a stinger or a sep.shoulder

  • In reply to Waffle:

I've always thought Steltz should start the season anyways, so just slide Wright over to FS for the first few games, and we'll be alright.

Besides, there's always safeties availabe in FA, unlike LTs. Just as long as we get a 4-3 safety, and not a 3-4 safety this time

  • Are they going to have to call Pisa? How many LB's can we lose in a row?

  • In reply to Waffle:

Derrick Brooks and Pisa on line 2. What about that dude from the Colts? Forgot his name.....

  • I'll be damned. I did not believe Robbie had that much leg

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Wow. Neither did I. I guess that's why I drafted him as the 1st kicker in our FF draft.

    Good as Gould!

Meaningless my ass! Now we know the range Gould has in ideal conditions.

  • I'm beginning to like this Blanchard kid. Will be fun to see what he does.
Hope they give him some more playing time next week...They need to give the Summers kid some of that Elephant cum for his hands to hand on to the ball.

  • In reply to MaddBearfan:

Look a few blogs back. Guys I was looking for. Summers-Blanchard.

Golden too, until I saw he was the negative of Dane.

    Da Bears!

  • During the halftime Joniak interview, Tice and Cutler took so many backhanded whacks at Martz I thought it was a Batman movie.

Tice: "I listen. I'm not some guy who is just trying to force an offense onto people."

    (oof)

Cutler: "This year, we have somebody that knows it's players that play the game, so if players can't get it, we don't do it."

    (bam!)

Cutler: "It's nice to work with a guy who played the game, so he knows what it's like out on that field."

    (smack!)

Tice: "I'm not here to force some crazy complex offense on people."

    (yowza!)

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Meow.u

I noticed that too. Gotta give Martz credit though. In his latest interview, no bad will toward Cutler and gang.

2). Like Batman or Magneto, sometimes the darkside/league of shadows/Fire Club teaches you toughness.

  • Lovie says Conte may have separated but he thinks it's not bad.

    Hardin is another story.

  • The Good:

The Offense. They clearly came out with a gameplan to pass the ball and they executed beautifully. Cutler found Marshall like it was old times. Bush looked like a #1 and the LINE protected much better. Certainly a step in the right direction.

Peppers looked fresh, Melton played with a purpose and Major looked good blitzing off the edge. Hays looked experienced, Costanzo was a workhorse and McCLellan was the tazmanian white devil spinning over fools.

    The Bad:

    Sexy Rexy not playing.

But seriously, the injuries to the secondary (Conte, Hardin) are troubling considering the lack of depth. The special teams play very good and very bad. I have confidence Toub will take whatever hand he's given and make it work. Again. The offensive line looked good overall but not eveyone had a good night tonight. There is a ton of depth at guard and some of it looks pretty bad.

    The Ugly:

The specials letting up that horrible kick return to end the half which led to the hip injury to Passover Podlesh. Also, Jim MIller sitting inches from Sam Rosen's face. Miller Time looked longingly like he was going to go down on Sam's schnoz. Aw. haha

  • Golden did nothing to acquit himself.

Despite Summers fumble and drop, Tice loves the height thing. Tice has sugar plum Moss visions.

    I think it will be:

    BMarsh
    Jefferies
    Bennett
Dane (he's now the punt gunner)
    Scrappy-Doo
    Summers
    Weems

#10 and Golden will get cut first.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Marshall
    Hester
    Bennett
    Jeffrey
    Weems
    Summers
Sazenbacher is the odd man out
