Preseason Opener Game Thread: A Salute to Alex Brown

Preseason Opener Game Thread: A Salute to Alex Brown

Alex Brown signed a one-day contract with the Chicago Bears. On that one day, today, he'll retire a Chicago Bear. He never seemed to make the money the other defensive end was making; no matter who lined up over there. He never won a Super Bowl title, although he came as close as any Bear not on the vaunted 1985 roster. He's not going to be enshrined in Canton unless Canton decides to give me full control of enshrinement moving forward. Because I can say, without question, Alex Brown is one of my all-time favorite Bears.

Why? A million reasons.

AB belonged in a Bears uniform. Belonged in blue and orange. Belonged on the lake in Chicago. He was the quintessential blue collar defensive player in the quintessential blue collar football city (shut up, Pittsburgh). You know that phrase, "blue collar"? It's the phrase commentators usually throw at any white guy that plays in the NFL. They do that because there's an inherent racist assumption being made: black guys are born athletes, white guys have to work at it. It's nonsense but that won't stop you from hearing it out of the booths of CBS and Fox on Sunday afternoons.

Blue collar means work and AB worked - often harder than anyone else on the field. When the Bears needed a blocked kick, there was #96. When the Bears needed a sack, there was #96. And I would argue, I think without debate, no defensive end played the run better than #96 during Lovie's tenure as Bears head coach. That run-stopping ability rarely showed up in the box score or on SportsCenter but it was the foundation on which the entire defensive system was built.

My favorite Alex Brown moment was against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008. On a goal line stand to win the game, Brown came off the edge and wrangled Brian Westbrook to the ground. I remember thinking, in that moment, "Wow. That's a great football player." I can't think of a higher compliment to pay Alex Brown. He was a great football player.

I have been looking for a video of the play and this is the best I can find:

Enjoy your night, Alex Brown. And I hope the Bears faithful at Soldier Field tonight can provide you a bit of the joy you provided us for eight years.

Hey Blitzkrieg! I was out kicking ass in my life and career for the latter part of the day and missed your post. It was clever.

  • Stop being a track Waffle. That is what you are. Nobody finds your posts amusing at all. All you are concerned about is people getting drunk and peeing on their children. Why are you talking about this on the Bears blog? You barely know anything about football.

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

    +1000

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

Wow, did you really just give yourself 1000 points? No matter what you post from here on out is now completely invalid.

  • In reply to Grizz33:

One more thing....what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

Hey asshole, I dole the points out around here and don't you fucking forget it, you POS Trac hand puppet motherfucker...

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

    Uh.

    That was me.

Why was I talking about it? It was an interesting story, with a slight anti-Packers twist.

Even without the piss covered Packers blanket, I would have told it... because it's fucking crazy.

And, that story single-handedly eclipsed every insight-lacking thoughtless drivel you can muster combined. That's not testament to the story, so much as it is to your goofy character's alarming inability to provide even a chuckle, a "who'dathunkit" or "whaddayaknow".

In fact, you make me miss #16.

You've been fed troll, now go back under the bridge for a few years and wait for the other billy goats.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Child abuse is not amusing.

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

I believe I said "interesting", not "amusing".

    But once again, lovely insight.

    GOOD EFFORT! GOOD JOB!

You should go bagel dog it with Mike Brown Posse at the Holiday Inn. He is trying make money to buy a new trailer home.

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

I actually bought MBHP a new trailer home. He is driving around the nation in it, using up the remaining CFC budget the planet has left before it chokes us all out - attending NFL games and picking up Puerto Rican hookers and flipping off the Madden cruiser.

It's my gift to humanity. Here's a pic:

I'd be careful, btw - he's moving on to his A material.
By that, I mean he's repeating the same retarded insult he's been working for the last two or three threads with zero variation.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Ahahahahahahahaha - love everything but the paint scheme, GPL.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but can we do something about that?

Dude, if you continue to hand out and retract points I am going to come over there with a Arizona sun piss super soaker with nitrous boost.

  • From what Ive read on Brown, I hope he develops into a nasty OT and become a starter. I've been in the Paea bandwagon from the start and I believe he should prove to all fans once and for all that he's the real deal! He won the Piccolo award last year, that shows that the team saw great upside from him... Anywho Wooten could be a dude to watch as well as Carimi since they haven't had much PT.
Btw should we bring back the "SPACE MOUNTAIN!" Chant from 06?

  • As much as I love Alex Brown, shouldn't the "retire as X" protocol be reserved for SPECIAL players like back in the day, for someone like Olin or god forbid, if Lach plays for another team?

What's next, Tommie Harris signing and retiring as a Bear?

  • Curtis Enis.

He still has his braces on, as well.

  • Alex Brown was in every way a SPECIAL Bear and totally deserves to retire a Chicago Bear and have that moment recognized on the field in front of the fans.

Wish Mike Brown had retired a Bear.

  • In reply to Reverenddave:

In my mind, he never played for anyone else. That was an imposter in a Chiefs uniform.

  • In reply to Reverenddave:

    +toomanyzerostolist.

Damn, not sure who's tougher - the guy with the snapped Achilles or the one with a complete fracture of the fibula.

I hate Florida's football program, but I always enjoyed getting to see AB do the gator chomp after a sack or big play behind the line of scrimmage. Dude was a worker.

  • AB was always a class act. Not too flashy, always worked hard and got shit done quietly. I like the fact the Bears let him sign a 1 day contract and retire as a Bear. It's proof that he loved the team and city he played for. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter to the rest of us. It matters to Alex Brown. And that's cool as hell.

  • What I want in this preseason game, and everyone thereafter:

    1) STAY HEALTHY.

    2) Look sharp. This doesn't necessarily mean points, sacks, turnovers, etc (though that would be nice), rather assignment mastery. Tice & Bates are creating a Martz 1.5 playbook, while the D is trying out like 8 new secondary guys, and a few DTs, DEs too. I just want them to look like they know what they're doing, which will bode well for the season.

    3) Desperate effort. If I were a fringe player, and my immediate future would either be working at uncle Tony's store, or making $700,000 for 6 months, guess what? I'd be clawing people's eye out to make the team! I wanna see some Scrappy in those fringe players!

As Marinelli say, "Give me your eyes."

    Bear down!

  • Truth. I add:
    4) A couple bone-crusher hits by DeCicco or maybe Hardin. Rainbow passes are pretty but football is about hitting.

  • In reply to Jokey:

If Dom-inator retires Manning, I wonder if Johnny will then put down his pee-gun...

  • By #2 I mean what Herm Edwards so elegantly expressed,

  • Jeez, I go on holiday and when I come back the trolls are out in force.

I want to see a good game from Campbell as he'll get the first quarter and maybe more. He was hyped to be performing well in camp and I want to be safe in the knowledge that we don't have a Hanie on the bench.

Still a couple of slots left in the DBB Fantasy Auction League, Let me or Who Is Willie Gault know if you want to join. You know you wanna!!

  • I asked for yall's insight but fack it, SPACE MOUNTAIN! lol

  • Hey, I listened to Jeff on the Radio. True, if ever a 2nd string QB was gonna enter a hostile environment in a preseason game, it's Hanie. That's how much Moosewang he sucked.

However, I think the fans should give Hanie a standing ovation. He is, afterall, the reason we finally jettisoned Angelo. So, here's a slow clap for you, Hanie, may your stomach get pumped from said Moosewang.

Also, I started chuckling at the "traffic report" of Iowa "Things are crazy - lots of traffic going to the Iowa state fair"...I wonder what constitutes "traffic" in Iowa...

  • i will excuse you sir!

*I* am the reason Angelo was shitcanned... on my birfday no less.

You, Bears Nation, are most welcome.

I only expect in return that ALL of my drinks are bought for me whenever any of you see me... like on the weekend of December 16th... or whenever.

  • Good God, compares! How *many times* do I have to tell you not to feed?!?

  • Marcus McNeil will retire.

  • scooped!

...and I was going to say something about scooping you. Well done lad.

  • Why was Alex Brown a 4th round pick, when he was a stud in college? I kind of thought it was a knee injury or something, along with "character issues" such as a "poor work ethic" or smoking weed. Anyone know the answer to this? He definitely didn't have any "character issues" with the Bears.

  • Marcus McNeil retiring friday because of neck injuries according to shefter.

  • my god we are racking up the gold medals today... Boo Yah!

I almost listed where they're coming from but won't spoil it for those of you staying up to watch.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Underwater tag team darts? I heard we were favored there but Uruguay was going to be tough.

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

    underwater basket weaving in fact.

I think that was actually Clay Mathews major at SC. I bet it was sad to have to give up a promising Olympic career to go into pro ball.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

He fits right in with those roided lesbians

  • This might be a bad game to judge the safety's. Why?

Manning hasn't thrown a deep ball yet in practice. I doubt we see anything in a measly preseason game. That being said, whomever is playing safety and they still get burned.. we have problems.

  • ...but we won't see Manning that much. I don't really care if Hanie throws 400 yards and 4 td's.

I do not hate Hanie anymore.

  • Who the hell is this Caleb Hanie dude?

  • What I really want to see from the second string CBs is man coverage. I really don't care if Hanie gets yards, but I want to see which CBs can actually cover and tackle when left alone.

DJ? Hayden? Wilhite? Frey? McCoy? Brown?

I also wouldn't mind seeing Hardin play cover a slot receiver. If they get burned, better now than against the Packers.

I would also highly recommend everyone visit the official Bears page, go to TEAM, and ROSTER, and keep that window open cuz there's gonna be a lot of #s we've never seen b4. Consider it a sort of program.

  • Been raining. Field is wet and temps in low 70s

Good night to test Mannings peanut brittle vertibrae

  • In reply to gpldan:

I've heard the field has been in great condition. Probably not so much after tonight.

  • No Peppers or Jay tonight.

  • What? Why not?

  • They don't want wear and tear on the players.

  • Cutler also just got back in town from having a kid...and I mean, just got back in town.
There was no way they're putting him out there for a preseason game on no rest with a new kid.

  • anyone have a link for tonight?

  • Looking forward to seeing Hardin, Dane and Blanchard tonight.

  • It's shitty weather here in Chitown tonight. I don't want to see many starters in there at all. Guys are going to rip groins and hammy's tonight on our shitty field. That is why Cutler and Peppers are not playing. I can see Forte getting 1 or 2 plays and out.

  • yeah yeah see, see... I'm a hacker. I have this guys account.

Now I'm going to post a random link to something just for fun. HAHAHAH!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Holy crap, a hacker just hacked my account and posted something. I wonder what it is.

...and why was he an old timey hacker from the 30s?!?!

  • In reply to Shady:

where in thee hell have you been?!?!!

  • Weather delay, should be over shortly.

  • Tornado warning in NW Indiana.

They are evacuating the stands right now - this is gonna be delayed.

  • Good to read the Alex Brown shout-out. Always was a big fan.

    Go injury-free game!!!!

  • Woot Woot only guy getting pressure.

  • Melton and Paea getting owned

  • Can't believe I'm saying this, but it's good to see Mannelly back on the filed. Not that it's weird to say about any given player, just weird to say it's nice to see the long-snapper back on the field.

He's back pretty quick for a guy his age from an ACL.

  • Fundamentals CHAMPION.

  • DJ ! great coverage!

    Pringles with the pick!

  • DJ "Johny on the spot" MOORE!

    Love that little dude!

  • Geno Hayes is impressing me.

  • I thought he played very well.
Woot-woot also had some good QB pressures against the Bronco's first-stringers.
He looks much more bulked up in the arms this year.

  • And re: AB.

I lived in Gainesville his final year there. One of my employees was friends with AB, and one time he came in and I didn't think he looked nearly as big in-person as he did on the field (had the same experience when I met Magic Johnson & Shaq, though Shaq looked huge). AB lit up the field in Gainesville, and I remember saying to him that I hoped the Bears would get him, but I didn't think he'd last. Months later, somehow he fell to the 4th round, and when I learned the Bears got him, I was ecstatic. Steal of the draft.

He and Mike Brown are my two favorite former Bears of the modern era (Peanut's probably my favorite on the roster now, followed by Bennett), mainly because they poured their guts out on the field every play, every game, and their leadership extended to the practice field and the lockerroom, too.

Class act, and I'm glad AB's staying in Chicagoland.

  • Earl is a classic Chicago Bear. GSH would love that man.

  • i know it's the first series and Urlacher and Peppers aren't in but Melton and Paea have embarassed themselves.

  • Major out with hamstring injury.

  • Caleb fuckin Hanie? WTF

  • Hanie fucking sucks

  • i know this will stun everyone but Pringles got hurt. pulled hammy

  • Bush fumbled

  • Dommer fucked up

  • I never wanted to see his ass again. regardless of who he plays for

  • Highlander! nice

  • It is..

  • How can this guy still be in the NFL?

  • Wright teases, then gets hurt.
    Webb with another offsides
    No pass rush

Nice to know some things never change.

  • Wright is nothing.

  • Shea does have motor..

  • The Highlander with a SACK and Hanie loss of 11 mmmmmmmmbearsssssss!

  • In reply to Shady:

McClellan was stunting to the inside when Hanie rolled out to his right, Shea ran back outside to chase him down. Great play.

  • I can't believe that Major Wright hurt his hammy again.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    Yes you can. It's Pringles.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Who cares? The guy can't tackle anyway.

  • Dom is horrible. That is all.

  • Shea's in, here we go. go get him kid

  • chicken!!! you fucking hick nice tackle!!!

  • I can tell you this much - Hardin is in there to HURT people.

    Brandon the Hurtlocker Hardin...

  • Wright is nothing, and is done. Hardin and Conte.

  • This blog is so broke right now.

  • In reply to Shady:

    right now?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    True.

  • Shea is showing speed, motor and a spin move, but he needs to disengage better.

  • He was manhandled on the TD run.

  • Bear Jew seems ok on that knee

  • WTF?! How is this blog even broken? So no one can use html code for italics or bold, is that it?

  • What horrible play-calling. I know you don't show your good stuff in preseason, but don't make everything predictable. It's leading to 3rd and longs - and coverage sacks.

    three 3andOuts is unacceptable.

  • Doc usually manages to break it, but I don't see him online. Doc, are you screwing with the blog in stealth mode?

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Jebus. Doc broke the blog and he wasn't even here. That dude is off the chain. Just leave it alone Doc.

  • Anybody have a spare 15k?
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1938-Chicago-Bears-Schedule-poster-1-sht-Jack-Manders-/180565536598?pt=Vintage_Sports_Memorabilia&hash=item2a0a8b6f56#ht_1979wt_1013

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Nice.

  • Offense? Offense?

  • decicco sucks penis

  • In reply to Waffle:

    JT Thomas looking good.

  • In reply to Shady:

    he is

  • our offensive playcalling tonight is quite fucking brutal by the way.

  • Our Dline is just getting pushed the fuck back.
Luckily, once Izzy and Pepp, Big Toe and Melton start, that won't be the case.

  • i'm sorry to tell you that Melton got his ass kicked when he was in and Izzy was justs as ineffective.

luckily it's just the first preseason game.

  • In reply to Waffle:

We had a top 5 run D last year, so I'm not too worried about that.

But the back-ups were also getting run over. Maybe everyone was over emphasizing the pass rush, which is scary, cuz I didn't see much pressure on Manning.

    Spencer is getting owned too...

  • we replaced 2 of the DT's of that defense though. Melton and Paea need to step up this year. They got fucking stonewalled tonight.

Shea needs to be a 3rd down rusher. He isn't half bad. He gets abused when they go right at him though.

  • That's the exact type of "helmet to helmet" play that should be reviewable.
What is Shea supposed to do, tuck in his head like a turtle?

  • I wouldn't put to much stress into the play calling. It wouldn't surprise me if we run the exact same plays next week. It wouldn't surprise me either if we run different but equally ineffective plays next week.
We don't want to show the Pack a dang thing, and I am OK with that.

  • Cheta Cheese Ozougwu looking good.

  • Nate Collins showing signs as well

  • It's obvious when you watch Shea play that he would fit well in a 3-4 alignment as a LB.

  • In reply to Waffle:

You think? Dude is another Clay.

  • In reply to gpldan:

He'll make plays this year on stunts and on broken pockets and they will be really nice. I just can't see him stopping that run when they go right at him or coming off the line and beating a tackle like Peppers.

  • In reply to Waffle:

He's there to disrupt Rodgers timing. Pep and Melton flush - Dinner runs down the scramble. I'm fairly certain that is the plan. He's not going to bull rush a single RT in this league.

  • I formerly apologize for the nickname Dom-inator.

If Lack can't go, put in Blake Constanza. Dom sucks it.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I'm not even mad at Dom. I'm mad at the coaches for putting a slightly above average college player in at middle linebacker in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

    Absolute lunacy.

  • In reply to Waffle:

He was worse than Hillenmeyer ? Glad I couldn't see that mess.

  • In reply to gpldan:

formally. It's been a long day.

  • i can't fucking wait to see cutler rifle passes to Alshon

  • Two scout's truths about Alshon.

    1) He catches EVERYTHING

    2) He can't get separation.

Until he catches some deep balls, all the CBs are gonna be jumping that hook, comeback and slant route by Alshon.

But for now, I'll just sit back and enjoy the show.

  • The nice thing I'm noticing tonight about the WRs. In years past, Sanzenbacher and Jeffery would be the starters, and we'd be sniffing their farts for the slightest whiff of competence.

This year, we can be brutally honest about their performances, knowing that we're not depending on them to be perfect. Jeffery can learn to get separation, had can get stronger and faster and camouflage his routes.

I like having two guys in the WR rotation who catch everything thrown at them. Cutty can toss to Bennett or Jeffery and be confident that the ball ain't gonna hit the ground. 3rd downs won't be so bad this year, I hope.

  • McCown did NOT impress me.
    Bell did NOT impress me.

Blanchard and Armando Allen can make a move. And is Unga ever gonna get on the field?

Brittan Golden looks like the pepper to Sanzen's salt.

  • Marinelli must be seething. D getting outpowered, out-gapped, out hustled.

  • I know it's only pre season, but I never thought Denver would be shutting us out into the 3rd quarter. It still looks like the old J'Marcus Webb to me. I'm not even sure this guy is better than Omiyale. Looked like Carimi was moving o.k. Bear down boys, it's early.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Webb is nothing. I suspect Brown is better, but that's only because I have not seen him play.

  • Good thing I didn't take shots for every 3andOut, or I'd be ass drunk right now.

  • My boys, Chris Summers and Blanchard!

That takes some serious balls to chuck it up like that on 4rth and short, which is exactly what I heard about Blanchard, that he does just game manage but takes his shot.

  • doesn't just game manage.

  • The stats are gonna show a lot of sacks, but many of them were coverage sacks where the Qb just held the ball for too long.

I also think that Tice is purposefully ignoring the screen pass because he wants to see how the Oline holds up with a full out pass rush.

  • Jim Miller and Sam Rosen are killin' me.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Jim miller is fat

  • they are tough to listen to

  • In reply to Waffle:

I loved this one from Miller before halftime:

"The kick had plenty of leg, but came up short."

    Thanks Jim.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Brilliant.

  • In reply to Shady:

One of my all-decade QBs for the Bears (it's a short list), but the guy sucks treeeeeemendously as a color commentator and radio analyst. Listening to him on Sirius NFL is brutal.

  • ok, the 3rd an 4th string guys got an education...bedtime

  • wright is... so wrong. He hearfore has a new official nickname (I'll let you see): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vdT0GbN3DM

Webb is a fucking liability. Shit is shit... sorry guys.

You simply HAVE to upgrade your weakest spots gents. you HAVE to. Fucken a man, yet another year without a legit LT or FS. Damn it.

    heretofore

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Now you guys know why I wanted Steltz to start the season, but then I remembered that Major also got hurt on special, so never mind.

I just hope when we add a veteran SS during the season, that's it's not another Swole.

  • Blanchard > McCown

  • This was a brutal game and losing Major Wright to injury again blows.
Our safeties are going to be huge liabilities this year. Hardin is a rookie safety and plays like a rookie corner playing rookie safety.

  • In reply to Waffle:

    yeeeeep

  • In reply to Waffle:

Cut Wright and call it a day...What has he done for us?! Got injured and injured our heart and soul of our defense...Not a big play I can recall or anything...Kick rocks Wright!!

  • In reply to Waffle:

And that's still better than Wright.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Urlacher likes Hardin. Steltz will be solid, Conte's still learning ....
DL is our problem this season.

  • Watched that shitty game...I didn't have shit to do tonight, but I should have done more than that. That was horrible. The only thing that was a bonus was a cold 12 pack of Sammy!! Beyond that, whatever. Once again, will be in town for the Seahawks game, anyone going or want to go?

  • Lopsided, meaningless score notwithstanding, I enjoyed like hell watching my beloved tonight.

Chicken Dinner looked like a full fledged Turkey dinner with all the trimmings tonight. Dude made some mistakes, to be sure, but he was all over the field. Then again, Mark Bradley led the NFL in receiving one preseason.

Pringles. Motherfucker crumbles just like em.

Hardin made his presence known. With the Pringles all crumbled we should get a real chance to see what he can do. I like Steltz and Conte to. Steltz is a pretty smart, instinctive player and Conte seems promising as well. I'm not holding my breath, but might we have an okay secondary this year?

Alshton Jeffrey (needs a nickname) showed some nice things out there.

Line looked suspect as always. I don't know if the line couldn't hold their blocks long enough or what but Mike Tice seemed pretty conservative.

Score doesn't mean shit. No major injuries except our Major Injury, some good plays from some young players, and the beloved on my computer screen. (Thanks Hacker asshole).

    Good day to be alive.

Oh yeah, and now my six week vacation begins! So I got that goin' for me too!

  • Doc..Nice analysis..but I still say, kick rocks Major and let's move on!! Have a good 6 week vacation, I wish I was so lucky. My 4 week vacation starts in early Sept where I travel watching sports, and end up in Chi with the Bears vs Seahawks...Til then, let's throw on the MW3

  • In reply to 505 Bears!!:

One thing Wright has going for him is the INT's. He had 3 picks last year. I'm not saying he's a ball hawk but at least he hangs onto the ball when he has the opportunity. Other than that, he's an injury waiting to happen.

  • Have fun on your 6 weeks Doc. I'm off for the next 12 days. Woo-Hoo! My 3 sisters are coming up from Illinois on Saturday. I haven't seen 2 of them in over 3 years. Really excited to show them some beautiful scenery and some large wild animals.

  • The Joe Thomas trade...

We should trade next year's 1st round, Devin Hester, Kalil Bell, Chris Williams and Major Wright to Cleveland (who's got shite) for Joe Thomas.

They would get a solid young core to build around, and we would get the final piece to our SB Team.

    What say yea?

  • Or if the Browns want, Webb. We can always keep Chris Williams as a swing tackle/g backup.

  • Why would Cleveland want Bell, Williams and Wright? Bell's a 3rd string RB, Williams is a swing tackle/guard on a team with a really shitty OL and Major Wang gets hurt jumping to conclusions. Not to mention they have Cribbs so they really don't have a desperate need for Devin (even though Devin is better than Cribbs).

  • Remove the first round pick and yes.

  • Nuts.

  • I liked Winner, Winner and AJ. Blanchard to Summers was the sweetest play all night. JT Thomas looked good in spots. Brittan looks better than Sanz. Collins made a couple of nice plays (other than dropping the INT). Other than that we sucked Moose Wang. It's the first game of preseason so it's not a big deal but it's a real disappointment to get schooled like that. Oh well, at least it's a wake up call.

  • No one's actually judging anything on tonight's game, right?

Week one. After we've gang-raped the Colts and shut them out, then we'll have the analysis. Nuff said.

  • It's not like I'm checking out tall bldgs for a nice ledge but it's a little worrisome that our OL had zero push and couldn't run block. Our DL didn't exactly sparkle either.

  • Not trying to cry about the refs but they were brutal. Hopefully the regular refs make it back by the opener. I saw one play last night where one of our DL men was chasing a play from the backside. He was about 3 yds across the LOS and closing in. Somebody from the Donks tackled him. It was right out in the open. How do you miss that?

I fell for it again. The off season excitement won me over. Coach Smith's disdain for the pre-season is rivaled only by his disdain for the Chicago Media.
