Gregg Williams Can End Bounty Debate. Where is He?

Gregg Williams Can End Bounty Debate. Where is He?

Drew Brees just spent a few minutes on WFAN's Boomer & Carton radio show in New York. During that time he made it clear he believed the following: (1) the NFL's investigation was unfair, (2) there was no evidence of a pay-to-injure program inside the Saints locker room and (3) he believes the individuals accused (especially Scott Fujita) are innocent of the charges levied against them.

I have one question. One simple question. And the answer to that question will end the discussion for me.

If Gregg Williams accepted his punishment for orchestrating a "bounty" program inside the Saints locker room, didn't someone on the Saints have to be involved?

It may sound naive but why has Williams gone AWOL on the entire discussion? This is the man who issued the following statement in the wake of the penalties issued:

“I want to express my sincere regret and apology to the NFL, Mr. Benson, and the New Orleans Saints fans for my participation in the ‘pay for performance’ program while I was with the Saints,” Williams said. “It was a terrible mistake, and we knew it was wrong while we were doing it. Instead of getting caught up in it, I should have stopped it. I take full responsibility for my role. I am truly sorry. I have learned a hard lesson and I guarantee that I will never participate in or allow this kind of activity to happen again.”

And I don't want to hear this semantics bullshit surrounding pay for performance and pay for injury. Gregg Williams was not suspended indefinitely for rewarding a defensive end's sacking of the quarterback with an Aspen ski trip. He was not suspended indefinitely for throwing a corner a grand after a big interception. He was suspended because he encourage his players to injure the opposition and he knows that.

Williams can end the Hargrove debate. He can end the Vilma and Fujita debate. He can even end the debate of Joe Vitt's involvement. If these players were not involved in the program, why hasn't Williams come out and exonerated them? If Vitt did not endorse the program, why doesn't Williams make a statement?

The problem is this: Williams never claimed innocence. He accepted his role from the outset because he knew his guilt and his acceptance of guilt IMMEDIATELY INDICTS OTHERS IN THAT LOCKER ROOM. The defensive coordinator can not run a bounty program on his own unless he is running onto the field, tripping quarterbacks and poking wide receivers in the eyes like Moe. He can not run a bounty program on his own unless he is sneaking into the opposition's Ramada the night before games and dropping hemlock into ice vending machine.

I don't want to hear anything else from the players or current coaches about evidence. Boo-hoo-hoo. Your defensive coordinator admitted guilt and I hold every single individual in those defensive meetings accountable. If you want to maintain your innocence, fine. If you want to clear your name, great. Call Gregg Williams and tell him to make a statement.

No? I didn't think so.

  • three words to this "Wag the Dog"...this is to keep the NFL in front for PR porpuse only. First thing you learn in advertisement for a product..even bad PR is good PR..keeps your name on their lips...

    Is it training camp yet...yyyyaaaawwwnnn.

  • In reply to lobotobear: can't even spell correct today

  • In reply to lobotobear:

You sure that was not on porpoise, lobo?

  • In reply to SC Dave:

  • Must agree, Jeff. Perhaps these players would be better off were they to just apologize for their transgressions. Seems to work far too well for politicians in this country - why not other celebrities?

  • See, I could argue the exact opposite. The players, unlike the coach, had no obligation to police each other. Any player in that locker room can do what is know amongst lawyers as "trying the empty chair."

If I'm Vilma, Hargrove, whoever, I'm saying: "I understand that Greg Williams had a bounty program going, I understand that Sean Payton stood idly by while it happened, but what does that have to do with me? It wasn't me, it was those other guys. And gosh, what a shame, they aren't here right now, and the empty chair can't say anything to disagree with me."

When I read the headline, I thought you were going to say the opposite. If Goodell wants to put these players away, why doesn't he have Greg Williams there naming names?

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

  • Drew Brees is just being a good team mate because he is a true champion. The players should take their punishment like men. Charles Martin had a hit list and he is dead now. Fujita cannot get off just because he is Asian. He has to play by the rules just like coach Paeyton. Coach Lovie would not show such poor sportsmanship!!!!!

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

    Okay, #17. lololololololol

  • So Greggg Williams' word is gold? That Rat will say whatever the NFL wants him to, Rodger has he balls in a jar. if he wants them back, he better tow the line.
Gregg has literally millions of reasons to Lie, the money he's gonna make as the defensive coordinator of the Rams, if rodger lets him coach again.

that's a story you can write, a guy like Williams will be hired the day the commissioner lets him back in.

  • hey murph... yep, definitely #16.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    We need a safety!lol!Go Bears!Bear Down!

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

That literally made me LOL. I think that's the first time I've ever typed that.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

canada, starting to get pumped for le tour. Can't wait.

Should be interesting. On my half cent last weekend hooked up with some of horner’s boys (my training partner is an ex-pro rider and popular sports doc in SD). Guys were fucking insane riders. A little scary.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Right now I think Wiggins is the favorite. It looks like a pretty wide open race this year. I don't like Evans (way too much of a prima donna a-hole) so I'm pretty much rooting for anyone but him. It will be good to hear Phil and Paul again.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I haven't ridden fast in years (other than downhill). It sure is fun getting into a paceline and smoking down the road.

I'd love to see Horner win a stage. I can't see him being on the podium but it would be sweet. Everything I've ever read about him says he's a great guy.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

yeah, my buddy knows him really well. likes him a lot.

We'll see. at the very least hope he doesn't crash out again.

There are a couple flat stretches along the cost where we burn, little 1-3 mi stretches where we try to maintain a 30+ avg. One little one miler we did a 34. Pretty brutal with ocean winds.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Walk proud man! That's hauling serious ass. Pacelines/eschelons are dicey in the wind. WHEEEEE!

If you have the patience, RAGBRAI in Iowa is a week-long bike ride every cyclist should do once. It's amazing to see so many bikes on the road. 12-15,000 riders every day for 7 days riding across Iowa in the heat and humidity of late July. You'll see something every day that will make you laugh. Along with every bike riding stereotype (good and bad) known to man. If you don't have much patience it would be torture.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I have less patience than a very small, very spaztic gnat on crack AND bath salts canada.

...which is to say, pretty much none.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

And if Iowa is just too damn scenic for you, there's also BRAN...

From the flat wasteland of Minatare, Nebraska to the...flat wasteland of Yutan, Nebraska.

    Yes, there will be corn.
    Wait, you didn't want corn?
    Too bad.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think you'd dig Cycle Oregon as well, MB. Beautiful scenery, full catering, and live music and alcohol every night. The perfect retreat for a newly single guy who needs to blow off some steam.

  • Cycle Oregon requires way less patience. There's a little bit of standing in line for food but that's about it. Considering there are 2200 riders things run like a Swiss watch. RAGBRAI is the antithesis of Cycle Oregon. If MB was looking to find athletic women to hit on, he could do a lot worse than going on either ride.

My vote is they are guilty. I go alone with Jeff's logic. Balls in the jar or not. Williams knew it was wrong, documented by video tape. Folks want to hate on Goodell because he's "The man". But he's right on this count. The NFL is not a democracy, the current climate regarding CTE, concussions etc has the potential to impact football's popularity at the youth and high school level. So anything that appears to promote unnecessary violence is going to be dealt with severely and perhaps unfairly.

The NFLPA will object as a matter of necessity. Players will squawk about fairness, but in the end they will stay sidelined until their sentence is up.

Loving the "inside rookie camp" video series on the Bears official site.

Any of you guys going to training camp activities? I'd love a snap shot of just about anything.

  • In reply to Big Mike:

I'll send you a snap shot of my newly shwoven balls if you'd like.

  • Your sack has quickly become the focal of the blog. If asked to sum up the last week of DBB, I would say: Bounty Gate, Sanzenbacher, Doc Nitty's nutsack

  • My vote for offseason MVB is a controversial one but I have to go with the new troll Blitzkrieg. The slight english as a second or third language presentation is fucking beautiful and makes me laugh every time I read it.

hey... don't feel badly Murph. It happens to the best of us. You'll bounce right back next time, don't worry man.. it was probably just a one-time thing.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Nah... No one is skating on this one - they're all guilty. And they should be punished. The game is nasty enough as it is without extra incentives.

  • The responsibility belongs to The Head coach, the D cord. and GM. They got suspended. For all we know the Saint's players have been going to their coaches and front office for years begging them to stop the bounties.
I strongly disagree with ANY player suspensions. If you are going to suspend one player than you need to suspend the entire organization.

  • Did you guys hear? Another Lions got in trouble.. Kid you not..

#Lions CB Aaron Berry was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Harrisburg, Pa. on Saturday. Reportedly struck parked cars & was not cooperative.

Later on I read he actually tried to run away..

  • fb_avatar

  • I couldn't give less of a shit about the whole bounty thing. Fuck the Saints. I don't care if they suspend the whole team but Brees and his face mole is forced to play defense. I'm sick of hearing it, I hope they win 1 game this year get whacked by Katrina redux. okay maybe that last part was a little harsh, but fuck the saints is my point. You should do a write up about the Brandon Marshall article in the trib.

  • so with you on this coach. 100%

I just didn't want to be the guy to say "Fuck XYZ" too many times in any given month. well done.

  • I thought they were going for a world record for most consecutive articles about Brandon Marshall. Jesus, could someone write a fucking article NOT about Brandon Marshall?

  • + a lot

  • so if you're done talking about Forte's contract, why are you still harping on this?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

  • CTE just might ruin my love for the game. I can no longer enjoy a violent hit without wondering about brain damage (let alone a flag). When the NFL becomes pure passing, and we're close to that point, I'm out. It's already ridiculous.

  • In reply to Jokey:

Don't be a fag Jokey, enjoy the hits. It'll be years before those their brains are effected.

  • hahahahaha... jokey is a very sensative guy i've noticed. Good for you Jokey.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

go watch the frontline on CTE and you'll be in my camp.

  • In reply to Jokey:

I did... unless they come up with helmet force-fields I don’t think I'm going to allow my son to play. If someone suggested that to me 2 years ago I would have killed them on the spot.

  • In reply to Jokey:

Jokey, you'd better temper your love of women's soccer, mens hockey, violent masturbating, MMA and living then because CTE is here to stay and has always been here. Enjoy the sport because for every guy that gets it and it impacts their life negatively (we think) there are thousands that don't and live mediocre lives just like the rest of us.

  • Every big hit is flagged anyway. They've taken the fun out of the game. Who wants to see finesse football? Not me. If I want art I'll watch soccer. Well if I had cable I would.

  • violent masturbating!?

  • I just found this on youtube. New Bears song for 2012!

Yeah, good plan Blitz. Come back in 2102 - with luck we'll all be dead by then.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, you are in love with this woman.

Go steal her from Snachez before he loses her to Tebow.

  • I thought Tebow was just waiting for the right guy. I'm guessing Sanchez isn't exactly rocking her world (hates cutting into his me time).

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

If Tebow is waiting for anyone it is Jesus.

That being said, if Sanchez loses his starting spot, his ultra hot gf, and life to Tim Tebow then that is just sad.

I would be soul searching and looking for my balls in the process.

  • tebow is gay Erik... not that there's anything wrong with that.

...the fact that he tries to hide/suppress it with jesus IS wrong... and just sad.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Okay, it still would be sad if Tebow did all that to Sanchez and turns out to be gay.

    Either way.

  • IS IT CAMP YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What's Greg Williams supposed to do? If he says the guys are innocent, then others will be, or will at least seem guilty by implication. I highly doubt that he's going to go finger pointing when he orchestrated the whole thing. It would seem to me that his best move is to just stay quiet . He admitted his role in the whole thing. Others must own up to their part in it on their own. Sure, he might win favor with Goodell by naming names, but no one would ever play for him again, so what would be the point? Sure, he would win the players favor by proclaiming their innocence, but then who on the field WOULD be guilty? He orchestrated a bounty program that no one participated in? Bullshit. Lose/Lose. He should just walk away quietly and not say another word. Until, of course, about ten years go by, at which time he'll write a book and milk a few dimes out of it.

  • I guess I'm a little skeptical about the "no one would ever play for him again" thing. First off, what do they do, quit the team?

  • In reply to SC Dave:

When guys have a coach they don't trust or respect, I suspect they'd just play for the paycheck and not sell out for the guy. That's all I mean, and I could be wrong. Just an uninformed opinion.

  • The Trib is putting up a paywall on the website.

So Biggsy's sweaty diatribes may be off limits soon.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I saw that. It will be interesting to see what ends up behind the curtain. Hopefully it doesn't end up like ESPN's main site. All that insider BS that I wouldn't pay for even if I was rich.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Just had a conversation yesterday with someone who told me he stopped reading the WSJ because of the paywall and switched to the Trib.

I have to wonder at some point if all of the major news sites switch to pay walls what will the market choose. Will the added revenue create higher quality news sites, hopefully with less advertising cluttering the pages, and attract people to start paying for news like the old days of newspapers? Or will people choose to tolerate ad-riddled independant sites that resist the pay wall.

I suspect that neither will happen. My prediction is that bundling of electronic services (cable, phone, cell, internet) will continue. I suspect sites like the Trib will not get enough takers for the pay wall, so they will make deals with the likes of Comcast and AT&T to provide free access to members.

These sites need to be industry leaders - they need to be read by lots and lots of people to maintain legitimacy as top news resources. The only way to do that is create a way for members to join for free. And the only for that to happen, IMHO, is to latch on to a bill that people are already paying. Hence, bundling.

Unfortunately, because the decision to buy into a news site will thus be combined with lots of other purchasing factors, I think that quality of the news will be less important. So the revenue will not generate better quality... the ads probably stay too, just like in print papers that already cost $2.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

The folks at the NYTimes don't seem to care, and their readership must have tanked. I for one used to live on their site and now only click over from google news.

If Bears news goes behind the Trib's wall, I'll miss Biggs and Pompei and even Haugh, but I ain't paying to read them. I'll just go elsewhere, probably the Suntimes, NFL, and NFP. And there's always Artoo. But, don't ever confuse bloggers with reporters. No blogger will ever have the same access Biggs has. Unless players start tweeting a loooooot more.

  • In reply to Jokey:

Oh and Cutler stopped tweeting. So, there's that. And those of you who don't follow the Bears players, don't worry, you're not missing much. The generic tweets are all "Hey I'm gonna be at such-and-such shoestore/restaurant sighing/selling/hawking crap."

  • In reply to Jokey:

oh we know you'll miss biggsy.

WHAAAAT... I'M SORRY!!!! you made it too easy. Fine, I'll stop, you've been a good sport about it.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I like his Top Observations stories, mainly because I quiz myself on how many things I noticed during the games. It's a fun monday/tuesday-morning game. I think we need more reporting like that, and less column-type stuff like what Haugh does.

And we need more x's and o's stuff like Bowen is doing, except with video. Kinda like NFL network's playbook show, except more Bears focused. A Milwaukee paper has whiteboard session clips with a former player that are pretty basic production-wise but are still educational.

Get that fucking disc fixed at Game Stop and let's get back into it!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Monsters are for dem fags. This has two factions, miners vs. fucked up miners turned into zombie like things from radiation. Basically, A and B side. They get the same gear.

I get it if you don't like the whole transformer mech thing, but this game is the pinnacle of combined arms tactics right now. I can't go back to twitch deathmatching, it's lame and I suck at it. Here, I have a 1-1 K/D because tactics and suprise play a role. The RTS thing is a lot of fun, it's like playing Starcraft while on the ground as a space marine combined with a little bit of Battlefield series. But air combat is in a whole different league in this game compared to battlefield 3, i.e. it's a real facet and not lame.

It's attracting alot of guys from games like Aces High who are used to the whole combined arms sim thing with air combat. It's the richest MP experience on PS3 and if you would try, I think you'd be hooked.

  • for our game on the 16th:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to Shady:

yep. 200 bones each. $1,800 for all 8.

Jeff can you front these? I will buy mine from your ecommerce site the second you get them up there.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You can fly to Africa but you can't buy those tickets?

    Selfish bastard.

    Just kidding.

  • you're the famous journalist now. hook it up Erik.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If you keep promoting me I might be able to do that. Right now? Nope.

I am gonna say it, just let each person buy their tickets in that section. Either way we will meet at a bar before or(actually most likely) after the game.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If anyone wants to trade a $200 US Airways voucher for the ticket, I'm game. I have to look into the other two.

  • In reply to Shady:

If I go.. I am def not wearing the suit. Good lord.

  • Stick a few strategically placed hand warmers in your suit and you'll be fine, McLargeHuge.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Now that was funny.

  • My cell phone videos of the Bears games I went to most recently. The NFC Championship Game (NFCCG), and the Pats game you all voted me to attend with da blogfader.

    Walking to Soldier Field NFCCG:

First view of the field at NFCCG, watch out for creepy Packers fans running up behind you:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Ha! That's some good stuff.

  • In reply to Shady:

Awesome. That's all I can say.

  • as for a previous thread of retiring fucking 57..FUCK THAT SHEITE..this is the number that should be on our minds in two to three years!!!!!! LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to lobotobear:

We're not going to retire 54 either.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    yeah I know GP..

  • For those of you who are playing FF email me at

  • I will be giving away a Chicago Bear Hoodie with 3 current Bears autograph on it. Check out how to win it.

    P.S. Hurry.

  • P.S.S. You have to have a Chicago Football Talk account.

  • CNN is terrible.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    And is markedly worse.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Not as bad as MS Access.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    All hail Corel Paradox.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

They have a dearth of anchors with big racks.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Oh.... yeah

  • In reply to gpldan:

    sweet baby jesus!

I thought Fox had all the hot bimbos appealing to all the fat, bald, 50 year old conservative pervs (a la palin)?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Every time I look at her boobies , I keep expecting to look up to a fat face.

The Lord does work in mysterious ways.

  • wonderful ways Erik. Thank god for fat, beautiful, milky, bouncing boobies.

    Can I get an amen?!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Amen Brother, Amen! I'm not as crazy about boobs as you but I find it impossible to look away.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

But when you do look away, you look up and see that she is skinny.

It's kind of like those pictures that mind eff you.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

erik, it's called plas-teak surgery lad.

There are literally only a handful of women on the planet with natural boobs that big who are also skinny. It's not a normally occurring feature in nature, those things defy physics and any semblance of gravity. This is why Kate Upton is a marvel of nature lad.

All the same I looooov me some fakies too.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

CNN screwed up the supreme court ruling this morning on Obamacare. The headline read SCOTUS kills individual mandage... for about a minute until someone figured out the mistake. Do they just not believe in proof-reading?

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

CNN has some real laughers with tech. The producers there are all into whizz-bang. John King and his giant iPad of death every election.

But the best was, when they showed the anchor talking to the field reporter using holograms. Yes, that's right. They put some holographic camera on the reporter and then blew it up so it was 1:1 proportion with the host.

It still came off as Princess Leia being projected by R2D2s camera, except the image was life size. I think they pulled it after a month, it was so stupid.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Yeah, that's what I was referring to - I screen-capped the wrong headline plus the retraction a couple of minutes later. What a bunch of rubes.

GPL - Will.i.Am is not from a Galaxy far, far away???

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

He looks like the Hip-Hop Ghost of Christmas Past.

  • In reply to gpldan:

If only his career was dead.

  • I can't believe Tim Tebow beats out Jay Cutler on top 100 NFL football athletes for 2012. Poor Jay. Tim Tebow has the good looks and the religion, but he is not better QB than Jay. He is not even the main player on his own team. G-d has a plan for Jay this year and Tim Tebow will be limited to trick plays and wildcat formation. Go Bears!

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

I tire of this Trac hand puppet.

  • In reply to BlitzKrieg:

g-d's plan is to hire a more eloquent spokesperson, #17.

  • Thanks again guys for joining. Check your emails and you should be good to go.

  • I click on the link and it brings me to the team page but it says I'm not a member Erik. How am I being a tit here? I'm signed in on my ESPN account. Let's get a few going, good crowd in there, big too.

  • Hot Newscasters are so fun to watch. There are tons of them but here are some of my faves:

    Maria Bartiromo
    Erin Burnett
    Kimberly Guilfoyle
    Megyn Kelly

Brains and super hot. Not a bad combo. There are hotter and sluttier ones but these 4 are classy and look like they would be a ton of fun after a business dinner and martinis.

  • In reply to Son of Crown:

Martha McCallum....extremely hot! Like me some Amy Robach too.

  • In reply to Son of Crown:

Please do not forget the lovely Mika, daughter of Zbigniew.

Maria Baritoromo and Megyn Kelly have good looks, but no hearts.

+1 for my princess Amy Robach!

  • In reply to Son of Crown:

I would smash the granny out of Kimberly Guilfoyle. That mouth looks like it could suck a golf ball through a garden-hose.

This is what the Chicago Bears have been doing for this season..

  • Chicago Bears O-line.

  • I feel so much better after watching that video.

  • Wow! that IS so awesome man... if they can only fucking block Dlinemen instead of a ball and a rubber band we might actually have a chance to finally keep cutty alive this year.

  • a single *sniff* tear for germany *sniff*

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    uhhhh, this might help:

  • fucking packer meathead dbag:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

At least Hawk made the play. In the bigs, he's usually way too slow to get there.

Every year the Pack make noise about letting him go to light a fire under the guy, it's good to know he has a future in camp counseling.

  • Who do you have more faith in, the offensive line or defensive line?

  • There are some big question marks at DL, yes. But until there is a season where the OL shows up and the DL doesn't, I'm keeping my chips on 63 black.

I hope Chicken Dinner has some skills at DL, because the guy is a 3-4 WLB masking as a lineman. If he could be Lamar Woodley that would be great, but I'm in a highly unconvinced state on this.

  • Nice one Eric. And O-line for me. One injury at DT and that's it for the season for that unit. It's Paea and Melton or nothing at all. One of them goes down and it's a shite sandwich for supper.

  • Stir that Crock of Shit, Jimmy boy! I'm sure nobody sees through your bias - oh wait, yes they do - but it's fun nonetheless!

Please HBO - Hard Knocks on the Jets! We want to see Kate Upton walking bow-legged after her night with Sanchez.

  • MB, it looks like we will be out there for my buddy's bachelor party in October. Do you think you could put together a brief list of places you'd hit during the day for hungover drinks and good eats on the beach and some places at night where a bunch of us could go that would result in sexual hijinks for some and a solid place for the married members to get stinking drunk?

Any ideas on decently priced hotels would be appreciated. It would be cool to meet up with you out there and have some drinks. My buddy who's getting married is a surfer so i'm sure he will be working that into the weekend. Due to the fact that I don't want to get eaten by a shark I will not be surfing.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Sometimes that shark looks right at ya. Right into your eyes. And the thing about a shark is he's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, he doesn't even seem to be livin'... 'til he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'. The ocean turns red, and despite all your poundin' and your hollerin' those sharks come in and... they rip you to pieces.

You know by the end of that first dawn, lost a hundred men. I don't know how many sharks there were, maybe a thousand. I do know how many men, they averaged six an hour. Thursday mornin', Chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland. Baseball player. Boson's mate. I thought he was asleep. I reached over to wake him up. He bobbed up, down in the water, he was like a kinda top. Upended. Well, he'd been bitten in half below the waist.

  • In reply to gpldan:

yeah, fucking count me out of anything that could put in face to face with a killer so perfect they've barely had to evolve in tens of thousands of years...with fucking doll eyes.

  • In reply to Waffle:

"count me out of anything that could put in face to face with a killer so perfect they've barely had to evolve in tens of thousands of years...with fucking doll eyes."

I have never thought about it like that. Good Lord are they machines.

  • In reply to Waffle:

Actually, I believe that sharks have been around over 400 million years. Granted not exactly as they are today, but not horribly difficult. To put it in perspective, dinosaurs lasted about 165 million years.

To me, it is appalling that we would wipe them off the planet for sport.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

You are correct. They are one of the amazing success stories of evolution because they got it so right, so quickly.

Sooo....what's your take on the Japanese preference for shark-fin soup?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Or the Icelandic love of fermented basking shark?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Ideally, they'd all change their misguided ways, or become shark food.

Perhaps were I to be a truly significant human, I'd come up with a substitute that would allow a 440 million year legacy to survive the assault.

We are amidst, and the cause, of what may ultimately become the greatest extinction event in planetary history. Some legacy for those created in the image of God, eh?

  • In reply to SC Dave:

But, they like shark...and the market is providing them with what they like.

I could not agree more with your last comment, but I'd of course be interested in Trac's take. I'm not sure they conflict that much.

My personal take, as I've said before, is that we're THE apex predator. And an apex predator with self-awareness, unlike say, the Great White shark, should not be so stupid as to completely undermine the eco-system of which we are dominant. We have no assurance that what comes next will be quite so accommodating to us.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Your post reminds me of one of my central issues with modern followers of Christianity. If we are to be the caretakers of the earth, shouldn't every Christian be an environmentalist? Not a vegetarian necessarily, but at least a steward for the general well being of the planet and all it's creatures? Yet I tend to get a contrary vibe form many of it's followers. A vibe that sounds more like a manifest destiny. Like because we are the pinnacle of earth's creatures, we have free reign and can't do whatever the hell we want.....

Like I said, your post reminded me of this. I mention it not because I think you personally, Dave, need that reminder. It actually sounds like you agree with me. But why are us peace loving hippy environmentalists so often painted with such disdain by fundamentalists? (Rhetorical).

  • Johnny, yes... I will start thinking about that. You need to tell me where your buddy is thinking about staying. Also, keep in mind that I've been married and have had two kids in the last three years. I will do some digging to see what's hot right now.

And you WILL be surfing mate. I will make sure you're not eaten my man.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

oh, also... hopefully you guys are coming at the VERY begining of Oct (like very first week)... as you get deeper into the month it gets much colder faster.

If not, you should tell him he should change the dates if he can... it can litterally be the difference between dry, sunny 67-68 degrees or cold windy foggy 58-60.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

we were thinking columbus day weekend. too late?

  • In reply to Waffle:

yeah, that's best. the weekend of the 6th.

  • In reply to MB30SD: would throw yourself into the hungry mouth of the beast to save me? The only way to make sure I'm not eaten is if Mr. Shark is full from munching on your torso for a while as I scramble back to shore. Damn, that's love mang, love.

  • Lobo & Huntin, (or whoever else can shine some light),

I'd like to take my kids to see the Stooges movie. Have you seen it? Is it kid appropriate? I'm not worried about it too much (other than the eye poking that is sure to follow) but want to make sure. And I know you guys are die-hards, so to you nothing would beat the originals, but is the movie good? Looks like they did a pretty good job of casting....

  • Doc..It's pure slap inappropriate language just good old school slap shtick. As for the casting...+100....if you didn't watch the earlier of the Howard's & Fine's you would of thought them to be the originals. My son cracked up the whole movie..they also broke it down to small shorts, just like the Stooges of remember no story-line here boys...just slap me silly sheite..Doc enjoy!!!

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Nice Lobo! Thanks, mang. Tomorrow is the day. I'm very excited and hoping my boys enjoy slapstick as much as I. I haven't mentioned it much, but I'm a longtime stooges fan myself. Though I confess to not having watched them as much as when I was a teenager.

  • 1:00 mark doc... 1:00 mark

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm well aware, MB. You're lust for Kate Upton is nothing short of contagious.

  • Slow day today eh?

Well, here is a video that should wake you all up...

    Meagtron Vs. Optimus Prime

Silly bad guy, doesn't he know he is going to lose everytime,mod=16&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Lance+Briggs+destroying+Megatron

  • Still can't believe that was flagged. What a joke.

If I make this blogging thing a full time job, I am going do whatever workout that Matt Forte is doing part time lol

  • MB -we're some nutty thunderstorms move through. I've lost power now a half-dozen times in the last 30 minutes.
Hopefully, will be on MW3 tomorrow (wife is celebrating her 40th birthday).

  • My posts are disappearing into the ether with no errors. That is pretty fucking annoying.

  • Irish... I must have missed a bomb of a post mate.

MBP told me what you said a couple weeks back. WTF?!?!?!? Has that situation resolved itseld!?

  • Shanking my head at this.,0,683188.story

But just grin and bear it til next year when he's in the top ten.

  • He's the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL.

  • Totally agree with the Rodney comment. I'm not one to blame the media too much but they can take full credit for this.

BTW, conservative christians don't hate enviromentalists, just the godless commie, hippie lovin' variety. Oh, and anyone that doesn't agree with EVERYTHING on their agenda.

To make some people smile today.. Sorry. It's not Kate Upton.

  • CNN breaks story, that Paterno actively engaged to cover Sandusky's crimes up, protected him and dissuaded Curley, Schultz from doing anything (basically told them not to) and then bullied the gutless Spanier into agreement

There's no choice now: Take down Paterno's statue. His legacy is this, and that's what history will remember him for: abetting a monster to destroy.

They should march to his grave, all those outraged students. So they can spit on it.

Where is that Penn State apologist now?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Can't say any of this is a surprise. Esp, after following the story and finding out that Sandusky was pretty obvious about his friendship with young boys.

  • In reply to gpldan:

He will have some excuse, I am sure.

  • R2! Someone posted your FF invite info on the propaganda site message boards.. You are about to get a shitpotfull of emalis wanting into your league...

  • In reply to EnderWiggin:

This one? Because I haven't received much so far.

Saw the post on the message boards at always down for some FF

  • How does one post stuff on

  • I got that how do you setup the account?

  • In reply to EnderWiggin:

If you create it, they will join ....

  • Forte appears grumpily ready to sign tender

  • Just watched the London game- I gotta say two big play makers in this game arent coming back and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Roy made some great plays and the Barbarian was looking strong.
One thing that will remain the same, peppers just manhandles fools and all they can do is hold, hold, hold. If big country can do half of what Peppers does oposing QB's are going to have nightmares in orange and blue.

  • And that pick by Lach was sweet!

  • I liked The Barbarian but Bush is a younger (and hopefully brighter) version. I'm going to miss Roy like a toothache. Marshall (for sure) and probably Jeffery will replace him tenfold. I did like his downfield blocking but most big WR's can handle that. I won't miss Roy even a little. Glad he's gone (probably out of the league).

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

100% on all of that Canada.

    fucking roy williams... jesus christ.

Canada... how'd you like stage two today? Cancelara almost pulled off the stage win too... just not enough gas in the tank the last 100 yards.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm loving the race as always. Anytime you tow a sprinter to the finish line your chances of winning aren't good. I love Spartacus. I've always hated it when a sprinter just sits on and comes around in the last 50 meters but that's bike racing. My friend used to race Masters but got tired of doing that. He was powerful as hell with an all day motor but no top end. Today will be one for the sprinters. I'm interested to see what Sagan can do against Cav.

  • MB.

I'd like to buy my ticket to SD soon. Any word?

  • hey doc. I sent you an email but haven't checked if you got back to me today.

let's do it tomorrow. I'll buy the tickets as close to the timeframeI sent last time as possible. Once I have the tix, I'll send you an email, so look out for it tomorrow. I also tried getting you online in MW, but you never came on.

Anyway, we'll get it done tomorrow. This can wait till next month:

  • hey jeff... germans... fun...?!?!?!?

  • btw, is the 'auto placeholder' function on this fucking site broken for anyone else? Ever since Jimmy fixed the fucking troll's blog breakage, the fucking site won't auto take me to my place. And the login is always at the bottom of the page. Brutal.

  • Holy shit.. the first round pick of the 2012 draft for the Bears is following me on twitter..

    Pretty cool.

  • Actually, I won his autograph.. lol

    Shea McClellin ‏@SheaMcClellin
We have a winner! @ErikGrogan DM your address! Congrats!!

  • Jesus Erik, pull yourself together son. You're a professional, try to act like you've been here before.

    ..just kidding maings. Nice work.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I try man I try.. you should have saw the big ass grin I had on my face when I won the Urlacher football.

  • irish............. wtf man??????

  • Hey Doc, Hamilton Loomis at Highway 99 on 8-2. They put on an incredible show. Texas / NO blues and funk. I think you play bass, so you would enjoy the show. Just a suggestion.

Badass song. I've seen all but one of these musicians in the last 7 months in concert.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

If you guys are into old soul you should check this out. Finewine does a great show and plays a lot of little hidden gems.

  • Sac, Hamilton Loomis is playing in Sacramento on July 27 at Torch Club. They put on one hell of a show. It's always one of my favorite shows every year. I make a point to see them every year.

  • I was watching clips of Alshon Jeffery at Bears camp. That kid has some sick hands. With his size and paws he should be good for 650yds this year.

He picks the ball out of the air with his hands away from his body. Ball control and a 6'3 frame. Waffle like.
