  • What sucks, at first(?) is how this does not matter at all.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

couldn't agree more Dave from South Carolina.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

Nor could I, Waffle from parts unknown.

Still though, GO PLAYOFFS (sans heart palpitations)!

  • Exciting start to the first game. Haven't seen the 49er's yet this year. Their D is playing aggressive and hitting hard on that first drive.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Two huge helmet to helmet hits, neither of them called.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

They semi-sucked the two or three games I saw of them. Alex Smith is not a closer. Looking forward to Brees tearing them a new one in the 4th.

  • They're not great on grass though ...

  • Ahem, exit stage left Irish.

  • Is is Tebow Time yet?

  • Anybody sensing an upset down in San Francisco?

  • This game kind of reminds me of when the Saints came to Chicago for the NFC Championship game on '06. The Bears ran the ball and relied on a great defense and special teams to create opportunities.

  • In reply to Shady:

Although the 49ers aren't imposing their will in the running game, something you'd expect to see leading the whole way.

  • I find myself only cheering on teams that can beat the Pack. That being said, I think the 9ers have a better shot at beating them (if they get past the Giants which I doubt) in January at Lambeau.

Thats said, lets go Texans and Broncos!

  • In reply to do53:

The Niners offense is anaemic and one-faceted, the Saints could really make a game of it with the Fudgers.

  • Brees is unreal, makes it look so easy.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

They also make it sound easy Murph.

  • Jeff - I disagree that Smith made a mistake. But it does create an opportunity for NO.

This is it. The Saints monster offense against the Niners' monster D. 2 minute drive to go 80+ yards. Could the NFL ask for a better finish?

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Okay, that was not what I expected to happen.

But I guess it was a terrible mistake by Jimmy Graham getting into the end zone... should have totally gone down at the 1 yard line.

  • I'm listening to the 49ers broadcast. They're going nuts after that TD. Man it's been a while since I felt that way.

  • Incredible game. I'm sitting there waiting for the Saints -3.5 and the NIners just need a FG to send it into OT where the Saints have a chance of beating the spread. Touchdown Vernon Davis. Good call Harbaugh. God I hate the Niners. The Pack will have them for breakfast. Or the Giants for that matter.

  • The Giants beat the Pack tomorrow and have to go to Candlestick... and it's a very different story....

  • In reply to gpldan:

Alex Smith under a pass rush is horrible. Then again, so too is Eli Manning on occasion.

MB is probably busy for a change. Either that or he's off trying to have more kids than Doc.

  • No matter who won this game I was going to be happy. The Saints are a fun team to root for, and the Niners play the old school football we all love so much. I think either team can give the Pack a run for their money... and I think Smith has it in him to light up the soft GB defense.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Just gimme one Bears season with a HC on the sideline with the emotion and fire of Jimmy. Before I die. Please.

  • In reply to gpldan:

MB WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU GONE???!!! I need an AMEN, maing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to gpldan:

You mean one more, GP? I'd say Harbaugh is Ditka-lite :o)

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

He was the worst QB in football. I don't buy into him. He's got a running game and a top defense behind him, and luck on his side today. Although he threw 15 TDs vs 5 picks completed 61% of his passes this year and was rated 90 so I guess he's due some credit. Classic game manager.

  • "Game Manager / Due SOME credit?

Sorry, Irish, but that just sounds like REALLY sour grapes because he made your "Alex Smith is not a closer" comment sound like it came from one of Custer's scouts. Somethining akin to "No injuns on the Little Big Horn, General".

  • Yo Coach...

  • Seems like Welker did not get the message from God.
Final Thought on this weeks playoffs -

Tim Tebow is an All-American asshole.

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

You had the Steelers in the office pool, eh Jack?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Nice +1

  • I wonder what Mike Singletary is thinking right now.

  • In reply to Shady:

I wonder if the 49er's win today without that epic post game press conference.

  • "What's two and two ...?"

    Good article on Tebow

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

TEBOW!!! Good guy. I almost forgive him for that Bears game.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Wow! What a great article Murph. He truly is a genuine good guy. That's why so many people hate him. What fellowship does darkness have with light?

  • Tebow getting an emeducation....that's just gotta hurt!!! Brady ain't takin no chances!!

  • The last time I saw somebody getting their ass kicked this badly was when the Patriots did it to us .....

Does Brady pass for 8 TDs today ? Nine?

  • They are carrying the Broncos out on stretchers...goin down and goin down hard.

  • I cleaned up with my Patriots offense pick on the fantasy contest. The Ravens D and special teams will put me on top. he he.

  • Fight! Fight! Fight!

  • That was a pitiful fight from Miller.. lol he didn't even leave a mark or make a point.

  • I'll eat my humbling pie GP. The niners defense was better than I thought.

  • That was McLargeHuge of you to say Artoo. Don't eat that crow, though.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Why did the Saints have to give up the ball 5 times..and one more thing..

Why did the Saints have to suck the last minutes of the game that they should have had wrapped up?

  • Because I backed them Artoo, that's why? Why did the Broncos get the beatdown? Because I backed them.

So for any backers out there, take the Packers and Ravens to cover the spreads, because I took the Giants and Texans. Guaranteed free money.

  • I suck. There. I said it. I suck.

  • Please tell me you're joking Irish. I tried telling you I didn't like any of the road teams this week, even with the spread.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Trac..no one saw the Niners getting that kind of win.

The Broncos Irish? Please man..why... lol You should have been reading the reports I was reading..Tom Brady was ready to for this game. I was shocked he didn't beat the record for most touchdowns in postseason.

  • I hear you on the 9ers Artoo. I actually thought they would squeak out a win but Irish kinda swayed me on that one. Should have listened to my gut. Isn't that how it always goes though?

  • Perhaps because the game was played outdoors where dome teams have a strong tendency to fall on their faces?

That first pick by Brees was absolutely horrific. Whomever he was aiming for was NEVER open and if that first defender hadn't picked it off, the one behind him, blanketing the intended receiver, probably would have.

Kudos to the 49ers special teams coverage. Fumble aside, Sproles mostly got SQUAt for return yardage.

  • Yup, they didn't win their division from the QB position .....

  • There was a "poll" - I read this - that said a majority of Americans actually thought that Tim Tebow had God on his side. They truly believed that Tebow was somehow connected to God.

What does that say about America and Americans?

Tom Brady - :"let me introduced yourself to a man of wealth and fame"

    Tim Tebow and God ---
Let's see -" that's one tuck and one no tuck" Lupe

No I did not have the Steelers in the office pool --- but Rothlisberger looked like the guy in the Monty Python film that protects the bridge -
    "None shall pass"

    Go Bears.

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

I think it was 43% said that they believed T-bone had God on his side. I'd take that to mean that 43% of those polled (if they ever were) believe in God.

    By the way ...

    1. Has anyone here ever been polled? Apart from just now.

    2. When you make a post, does it refresh the page to 57 minutes ago?

  • I was almost telephone polled once. I hung up as soon as I understood the purpose of the call.

    To answer your second question...

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

...No. The page refreshed to 51 seconds ago.

  • Polls are meaningless. It's all about "focus" groups. These are all "independents" who have no real "opinions" on anything. If they "like" what you say, they hit the positive button, and if they don't like what you say they hit the "negative" button. It's kind of like Pavlov's dogs.

  • Dude.. I know what percent of God was helping Tebow.. it is whatever his completion percentage is.

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

    God lives.

  • Jim Harbaugh looks like a Hinsdale Little League coach - I cannot wait til this arrogant, jerk get his big playoff loss. What a smug, fake, and one for the gipper moron.

The Saints would win three or four Superbowls with the Bears defense.

    Fondly -

  • Memo to all Tim Tebow rah, rah fans and sports networks -

Sit down and shut up until next fall.

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

Amen to that. Nothing sickens me more than a sportcaster with a man crush. And Tebow's non-Bronco fans are mostly nuts. I hope they bet the tithe on today's game.

  • Sorry, Saints. Even teams with record-setting Quarterbacks cannot get away with turning the ball over FIVE times. Even to a team with a "game manager" at QB.

  • Boy does this guy know how to make a crap sandwich.

He does have the Al Sharpton look alike thing going though.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

I have to go with the Tony Orlando look alike

  • Watching the Tom Landry A Football Life episode. Don't think I've even heard the term 'Flex defense' since I read about it in the eighties. Why is that? I didn't know that it was Lombardi coaching the Giant's offense in the late fifties, with Landry coaching the defense. When Lombardi goes to the Packers he uses Landry's defense and wins five championships. Landry scrapped Lombardi's offense and came up with his own.

    Riddle me this.

NFL teams play either 4-3 or 3-4.defense today. The weakness of the 4-3 is its susceptibility to pulling guards and centers. Landry comes up with the Flex defense as an adaptation. So where is it today?

My $0.02? There's nobody left to teach it.

  • I just like to say a little Frank prayer now, to beat the Packers. Everybody bow their heads:
