Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears Game Thread

Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears Game Thread

Who knows what the game will mean when it comes to playoff possibilities and, frankly, who cares. I say all the time that we're only guaranteed sixteen Chicago Bears games a year and we should cherish each and every one. With or without Cutler.

As for scoreboard watching...go Raiders.

Wow.... you really have NO life. Fucking loser.

    La hoooooo zaher.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Absolutly. lets keep hopes alive

  • 1st to say!

    (Fudge never count)

  • Over/under on Hanie getting booed when he comes out at Soldier?

Over/under on him getting pulled at halftime if hasn't scored a TD?

  • Third.

Finally saw "The League" That's shit's pretty funny.

  • damn, sorry for the typos.

    I'm sounding like these guys...

  • Shiva .... shiva nagila ......

  • no cryptic dreams
    as the body awoke today
    the buzzards were circling
    as I soaked
    in the hot tub
    reading the Nation's view
    on the state
    of affairs in this
    dense dimension
    high above those buzzards
    looking for a carcass
    on which to feed
were a flock of white egrets
    crossing the sky
    the sun scintillating
    on the feathers
    as they passed by
    my pain weary eyes

    the buzzards can feed
    on the carcass of seahawk
    after the game
    and the pain will be
    wiped from my eyes

    BIG D

  • I have no illusions about today's game. However, I will still watch it to the bitter end.

I will never respond directly to the trolls but I am pretty amazed their lives are so empty they come around here so often. I don't count Cheesy among them. He actually puts some thought into his posts.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I've been telling myself all morning that I'll just stay home today instead of going to the bar to watch the Bears. Who the fuck am I kidding?

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Not only so often, but are actually waiting for first post.

    Oops ... 7-0 ... leverage violation, eh ?

  • Boomer Esiason, god bless thee...

He just said on national tv that the Bears have a championship D, and that Angelo dropped the ball in securing a decent back up, namely, Neckbeard.

  • Boomer Esiason is master of 20/20 hindsight then because that is a fucking retarded statement.
    1) No one thought Hanie sucked coming off of the 2010 NFC Championship game. Period.
    2) We TRIED to get Orton this year when we could; Glitchy can't change the waiver system.
    3) Heading into the 2011 regular season, Orton was the unquestioned starting QB of the Broncos - obtaining him then was a pipe-dream.

Boomer is an idiot, despite the fact that, yes, we have a championship caliber D.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I agree, but the fact that he put that notion of J.A. coupled with rumors of him retiring might make a lot J.A. doubters very happy.

Makes me wonder about last year too though. I'm wondering if behind the scenes Martz was trying like hell all along to bring in a guy like Bulger, but that perhaps Angelo cheaped it and said, "No, Hanie's our guy, but we'll give you Collins and some 7th round picks..."

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Not to defend Boomer, but he could have meant that Glitchy should have pursued Orton as soon as he was deemed expendable by the Broncos, or even during the offseason when the Orton was on the block. Secure the backup QB before the backup QB is needed, else championship D be wasted. Spot on, I say.

  • It's really not even about Orton, it's about the offense in general. With the defense as currently constructed, the Bears needed an offense that could (at least) compliment the defense. But when you have little talent surrounding the QB it takes an extraordinary effort to have success, let alone losing your QB all together. Double Deuce going down was terrible, but the production from his backups has been decent compared to what 22 was producing in the last few games before he went down.

  • Denver was not interested in giving up Orton for anything less than a high third rounder and Kyle wanted to start, plus a contract extension in the $6 million a year range.
That was just not going to happen for a backup QB.
And frankly, that's why Miami didn't end up pulling the trigger once they got Matt Moore.

I would have loved to get Kyle as a backup but it's just not realistic to think we had a shot at him in the offseason.

  • lets beat pete carol and keep playoff hopes alive.

  • interesting tid bit

25% of the NFL will be FAs next year, the most ever in NFL history.

However, the cap will be about the same, meaning they're not gonna get paid as much.

All I want is ONE guy: Mario Williams.

And a LT and WR stud.

    Hear that, Santa?

  • Mario Williams and we're superbowl contenders pending a heathy team, only concern if we did get him would he stay heathy.

  • In reply to Sean:

    error, superbowl favorites.

  • In reply to Sean:

Mario Williams broke his leg this year, if I am correct.

And I think that was due to the Texans switching him to LB.

Often, when you make DEs into LBs, they really don't know how to protect themselves in space.

The injury (and the fact that the Texans switched to a 3-4) might actually convince Williams to go to a 4-3 team.

If he wants a championship, he'll go to ours.

If he just wants money, he can go to the hapless Bucs.

  • With so many FAs there has to be a couple WRs to be snared.

  • Sign Mario, then trade up 2 #1's & the 3rd from Carolina + whatever else to get Justin Blackmon.

  • That was funny.

  • Excellent!

  • Well, I inferred after last week's loss that I wasn't going to waste any more time on this season. but guess what? here I am....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    there's strenght in numbers

  • sanzentackler
    replacing the
    nice hustle

  • Maybe if Knox is injured then hopefully Hanie can target someone else for once.

  • Is it wrong that I am glad Knox will be out of the lineup with that hit? Secure the ball you fuck!

  • how can we help each other?
    stop making mistakes

  • remember the good old ays
when bennett used to be a reciever

  • Damn. We just seem to be getting every bad break, bad bounce or bad call possible this year. I guess we used up all our good luck last year.

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

last game last year was when the rug got pulled out from under us

  • This will teach him to secure the ball.

  • Knox. Trying to find new ways to end our season.

  • Maybe Hanie will throw to Bennett now that Jackass is hurt

  • Kyle Orton back together with his buddy Thomas Jones in KC.

  • In reply to Shady:

drove them for 3 on his first drive

  • In reply to Shady:

....and moving all over the Packers as we speak...

  • OUCH, that looked incredibly painful. Wonder if Goodell will fine.

  • holy crap that looks serious.

    Godspeed Johnny.

  • That's a scary hit man. I hope Knox is OK

  • I feel like a dick after seeing the hit in slowmo. That is a nasty back/neck injury.

  • C'mon Johnny. You're okay man.

  • Shake it off you pussy lol

  • another fallen starter
    the hits just keep on

  • In reply to huntinbare:

    We're having fun now!

  • If Knox holds onto the ball, that injury doesn't happen.

Just like him falling down and pretty much ending Cutler's season.

  • Hurd get in there
    Hurd you're up Hurd Hurd
    Lovie he got busted
    Oh yeah
    sam got busted
    ain't that bad

  • Is it a new low when you can't even boo?

  • Paea sighting!

  • Nice. Get 'em Paea.

  • Jesus, seeing this D play so great only contrasts how pathetic our O with Hanie is.

  • OK defense held there at the 1, could be huge.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Wait. Nevermind.

  • Way to hold, D.

  • Seriously, what the mother fuck!

  • johhny knox out for game
    going to hospital
    major back issue

  • That call is bullshit!

  • Hochuli is a dick.

  • What. THE. FUCK!!!???

  • "I think the defense was rocked by that penalty"

Yeah I think you could say that Bob or whatever the face your name is.

  • how can we help each other?
    stop making mistakes

1st 1st Qtr. touchdown given up since we played the pack

  • nice job Graham.

Almost better than that beautiful sp teams play you blew in GB.

  • Unbelievable!!! Just unbelievable!!! Nothing they do works!!!

  • I have never seen that call ever. Leave it to Hoculi to cook up that bullshit.

  • bell with authority

  • Got the stream working just in time to see... what? Leverage?

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    Yes on Graham apparently.

  • oh would you look at that, Bennet caught it.

  • earl the pearl
    foun him finally

  • Thats what you get when you throw to Bennett. Fucking Hanie

  • The guy who caught that pass looked vaguelly familiar....

  • Being overseas, I'm curious what those crazy "fans" on streaming chats are complaining about...

I'm sure none of you know personally, but if someone you didn't know had broken into your place and accessed one of these ill-meaning sites... perhaps one of you'd know where I can inspect one of these chats for signs of no gooders?

  • In reply to Michael L:

Whoever this guy is should protect his computer more.

  • In reply to Michael L:

Typed that by hand so hope it works.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    I'll paste ...

  • I am liking Bell. Runs hard and goes for the second effort.

  • bears fans holing their breath
what will happen to ruin this drive

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Hanie is our QB and overthrew a wide open receiver. What else is new.

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Hanie missing a wide open pass obviously.

  • In reply to huntinbare:

hanie feeling pressure from a linebacker
    that got picked up
but he threw it away by then
    hanie's nerves stopped that one
    medicate the boy
    Alah Doc Ellis
    what else could happen
    except maybe success

  • looked pretty good there for a while...

  • SO SICK!!!!!!

  • Peppers. Worth every fucking penny.

  • Fuckin A

  • Yes!!!

  • peepers puttin the bears on his back

  • Well, we knew D and ST are are only hope....

  • And we need to do that twice please pep !

  • wait the refs want to screw us again

  • In reply to huntinbare:

    lubrication LUBRICATION

  • In reply to huntinbare:

  • If KC can keep this up, Dandy Don Shula will be sipping Champagne this afternoon. KC 6, GB 0.

Ooh Yeah, Bears D is gonna win this one. Pepper Stepper!

  • Izzy 6. Hanie 0. Nice.

  • Flash poll: Was Pep worth the money?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Fuck and Yes!

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Every penny

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Peppers on the Bears? Priceless.

  • The way this game is going Hoculi will come back and say his arm was moving.

  • What's the consensus here on how many more years this defense have left before major retooling needs to be done? One, two?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

At the level Lach and Briggs are playing, I don't see us falling off too badly in one year. We better start getting folks lined up to take over right freakin now tho'

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Two max. And if Lac goes down at any point .... it's all over anyway.

  • And people were saying he was over the hill a couple years back. Brian is still the glue.

  • We needed some Pep! Dr. Pep, just what the doctor ordered!

And Bell does look way better than Barber.

Barber should strictly be a change of style back.

  • i like how bell seems
    to get the importance
    of every touch
    this is critical today
we are about ready to have
    the plug pulled
    kavorkian style

  • Maybe. Bell has games when he looks really good. Then he disappears.

  • this should lift the spirit on a stunned team
maybe hannie will actually settle down
and relax himself into a better game

  • knox has movement in both hands and legs
they are looking at his lower back

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Good to hear. Thanks for the update...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

rarioheads on the call from the hospital

  • end of first
izzy 7 - PENALIZED bear kick block team 7

  • push em back

  • c'mon flatbread
    do something

  • Dane is fearless!

  • Knox's injury could well be a blessing in disguise

  • Nice scrambling pass by Hanie.

  • sanzencatcher takes a big hit
    but still in the game
filling in admirably for the pusher

  • Oddly, I was really impressed Hanie didnt throw to outlet there after staring him down. Would have been a pick.

  • Well that's unfortunate.

  • In reply to Shady:

would have happened about the same time KC goes for it on 4th down and fails. They needed to take the 2 possession lead.

  • U spoke too soon. Back breaking interceptions!

  • And just when things were looking good....

  • good golly miss molly
    another chance for the D

  • In reply to huntinbare:

2 or 6 will do just fine

  • Sickening.

  • I swear that everytime Hanie throws a pick the commentary team highlight how open Bennett is.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

He makes his mind up when he walks up to the line regardless of coverage.

  • Fox talking heads say Bennet was wide open on that pick. Didn't see it.

  • c'mon pick 6

  • Hester sitting way back on those punts. Toub got in his head about not taking a fair catch if it is there. Either that or he is more injured than the coaches want us to believe.

  • we have to get some positive score from this change of field position

  • He keeps this shit up we may see McCown today yet! Davis had 2 guys on him and he throws it any way.

  • Rodgers not looking so hot without Mr. Jennings.

  • Triple coverage?!?! Really?!?!

Did anyone else see Bennett throw up his hands like "What the fuck dude"

  • Dang I wish we had been able to get Orton. He sure knows how to keep it interesting against the Cheese.

  • Why does Hanie have a hard-on for his undersized receivers?

  • In reply to Vicp71:

    makes him feel taller?

  • Packers playing absolutely sheite.

Typical that Rodgers plays gash when I need him to perform in FF.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    use him next week please

  • TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bell

  • Woo hoo, TD.

  • Hell of a job by Bell to re-route himself and get open for Hanie.

  • thayer says hanie is setting his back foot on 3-5-or 7 step drops
and immeddiately rolling out of the pocket
    he thinks it is
    premature pull out
maybe that is why he can't find bennett

but another roll and this one works touchdown
but the organized movement of that play was to earl bennet

  • Damn, shoulda played Bell in my league.

  • half of jackson's picks this year have come in the last 2 min
    c'mon D

  • fuck, Conte down

  • Looks like his leg they are working on? 3rd leg maybe? He looks pretty comfy down there.

  • contecussed?

  • please no

  • He took a couple shots to the head, but it looked like Conte was holding his lower leg at one point.

  • unger the center
    falls on my man
    shoulder to the jaw
    after the initial hit
let alone the helmet to helmet

  • Anyone else heading to Lambeau next week? I'll be the guy in Navy and Orange.

  • Who do we have on the depth chart after Meriweather? Noone!

  • conte with ankle injury
    ?able for rest of game

  • bennet on the return

  • In reply to huntinbare:

    he says
if you wont throw it to me
at least let me get a touch or 2

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Hester must be injured more than we thought.

  • No picks Hanie!

  • Hanie spike complete.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

    Nice spike by Hanie.

  • Bulaga down for the pack

  • our DB's are dropping like flies. Not good.

  • Tim Jennings flat sucks ...

  • Not good

  • Jennings torched again

  • Wow, Paea just got thown 5 yards off the line of scrimmage.

  • I always hate seeing no jam at the line of scrimmage in those sets.

  • Hanie plays like fuck!

  • seriously...

  • wtf.

  • Wow. Nice handoff, Hanie.

  • Poor poor Caleb I'll never get a job in the NFL again Hanie.

  • Caleb Hanie flat sucks. Today is the day of the under-dog.

  • Starting to look like last weeks game. One shitty thing after another!

  • Weallow Tarvaris FUCKING Jackson 70+ yards in two plays then Hanie throws all his decent first half play out the window instead of just tacking the hit. How many chances does this dipshit need before he'll learn to play the game.

  • didn't take long to show how we respond to a half -time
    pep talk

  • Good god he has 0 football instincts.

  • no j nox
    no hester get me hurd
    sam hurd your up
ah lovie he got busted this week
    oh yeah
    ain't that bad

  • In reply to huntinbare:

how can we help our teammates and fans?
    stop making mistakes

  • could the D please help us score

  • blitz jackson and knock him into tomorrow
    he is gaining confidence

  • In reply to huntinbare:

we have been pressuring him like crazy and everytime we drop into coverage he makes a big pass. I don't get how our coaching staff can't see this.

  • we have no QB....might just as well put in McCown...can't do much least we would have an excuse.

  • Pathetic excuse for a QB. Can't even make a throw to a wide open receiver.

  • D is starting to wear down.

  • you know you are bad when you have these clowns calling the game.

  • ok Irish this is my official apology regarding my stance on Jennings. Hats off to you for calling him out.

  • Regarding Orton - didnt we break his thumb on his first pass with KC?

  • In reply to bajeezes:

    Dislocation, not fractured.

  • In reply to Shady:

And it was his index finger, not as important as the thumb.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Finger, not thumb.

  • This is worse than last week.......

  • That non call on the hold of Graham was such bullshit!

  • I cant bring myself to turn it off. This is so painful to watch,

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

I can. Good night gents. We'll get 'em next year.

  • conte with a foot injury
    not an ankle
    the buzzards are back
    and they look hungry

  • even the defense is getting abused
this is the bears last stand

  • Fuck this game

  • Game over.

    Let's go AFC.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

  • In reply to Shady:

I'm all for Tebow time all the way to the big game. The skys the limit when you have Tim on your side.

  • for a team facing elimination
i cannot be proud of the effort
we have had the heart taken from our team
it is sad but we have nobody to blame
    but our own sorry effort

  • FUCK this game!! This shit is Pathetic and I hope Hanie gets hit by a moving CTA bus after the game. He will be a QB in someone's rec league next season, but no where close to an NFL field!... It was all good just 4 weeks ago. Cutty is elite in my book if we look this bad the last month....... FUCK

  • If Hanie can equal his production over the last four games (minus the points he cost us) in what's remaining of the 4th quarter, we'll still lose.

Who's our backup this game, Enderle or McCown, and what's the point of not putting him in?

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

The said McClown is the backup, but I say put in Enderle and see what he's got.

We know what Hanie does not have and that's enough talent to be in an NFL game.

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Me too. But is Enderle active?

  • Turning point of the game was Hanie's int. Defense seemed to just give up at that point.

  • In reply to Vicp71:

Why try when whatever you do is just going to get turned to shit in less than a minute by Hanie?

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

The message in that play couldn't have been any clearer had Hanie announced over the stadium loudspeaker, "I'm going to give this game away."

  • En-der-lay

  • In reply to Shady:

    that depends~

  • I think the OL is making a statement here. FUCK HANIE.

  • Jeezus, this is really bad. FWIW, Orton in his first start has almost 300 yards and is beating the Packers in GB. I doubt he'll be available for a backup next year. Somebody's going to make him a starter....

  • Saints Broncos superbowl.

    Saints win 35-17.

    You saw it here first.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

I would have agreed with that after the Vikings game and before the NE-DEN game.

  • Fuck this game, flipping over to the chiefs

  • thats the end of Hanies career.

  • It just keeps getting better and better...

  • Hanie should never start another NFL game. He plays like ASS!

  • Well, it's official boys. Hanie sucks, season over.

  • I really don't see the harm in McCown getting a few reps...

  • Hanie better not start this drive.

  • Okay. Another pick. If Hanie gets another snap, Lovie needs to find someplace else to coach.

  • OK. McCown sucks. Enderle?

  • Let me rephrase that - I really don't see the harm in Enderle getting some reps...

  • Yup, McCown sucks too. We already knew that.

  • At least the Packers lose.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

To Kyle Orton and Thomas Jones, gotta love it! haha

  • Where is the greenbay trolls? Come out come out where ever you are!

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

The Pack lost that game on purpose, you guys.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

First loss in a year. Not too bad. It might be a year before you see a win.

  • In reply to phrozentundra:

Yeah, one lowsy loss. We're not the least bit worryed that Kansas City scored 19 points on our D.

  • At least we won't have the hear the Cheese perfect season crap.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Yeah, an awesome event in an otherwise shitty day.

  • Wonder if now the Packers will play thier second stringers next week...

  • Why did KC draft the Orton? Why I tell you, why?

  • Well, the season looks grim. I'll be in GB next week to watch the Bears. Just hoping there is a glimmer of hope to play for. Hoping Cutler makes a showing, because I don't want to sit through watching the packers zone in on Hanie, Enderle, McCown, or any combination of those.

  • In reply to bajeezes:

Let Cutler heal up good, why take a chance with him. We aren't making the playoffs. I have seen enough of Caleb. He had us fooled...every one of us. No one on here thought he was this bad. Everyone of us thought he was a good backup.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Yeah, it would be pointless to risk Cutty now. I expected the Hawks to win, but not by that much, even the defense gave up. Only sensible thing now is to lose the last two and get a higher pick.

  • Well, the main thing is to get some guys experience for next year (e.g. Sanzenbacher, Bell, DeCiccio, etc) to see what they got. Sit Cutler, Forte, Peppers, Urlacher, Tilman, and Hester.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Thanks for the early Christmas present Dave. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your Bucs pick. I had to do it.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Yeah, should have went with the Chiefs for my upset.

  • We need to play Enderle next week. Lets see what he is made of. Caleb is through in the NFL, and the other guy hasnt played in over a year. May just as well give the kid a look.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Even 9-7 is an impossibility now. Done, stick a fork it Murph. Enderle needs to gets some action. I want the Bears to make way for some fresh meat next year. This season went from bad to great to abysmal.

  • Teeebowww! haha

  • The Bears had 3 years to get a decent backup and Jerra stopped up the plumbing with an elephant sized turd called Hanie.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

    several years ago
    an elephant handler
    was under the sphincter muscle
    and the pile was
enough to bury the poor soul
    and he lost his life

    we should be so lucky

  • In reply to huntinbare:

    "The Anal Sphincter:
    A Most Important Human Muscle
    Which can differentiatebetween
    Solid, fluid, and gas"

    that about sums up
    the last four weeks
    for me

    whether JA is a
    solid, fluid, or gas
    the sphincter
    has to

  • In reply to huntinbare:

    Ok, THAT made me laugh.

  • Hanie has 9 INTs in 4 games?

Could McNabb really have been worse?

  • OK MB, let it rip. I'm ready!

  • Caleb in his press interview - he fidgets JUST as bad as Cutler! Whats with this?

  • OK, so the ONLY way for the Bears to get into the playoffs is for them to beat GB an MN on the road and for Detroit to lose all three of their remaining games: @OAK, @SD and @GB. The Packers need one more win to lock up the #1 bye so they'll be playing all out next week. If they win, then it doesn't matter if they lose to Detroit the last game of the season. Detroit has a prettty good chance against the GB second stringers....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

So I'm pretty sure this was our last chance this year....

  • Did anyone ever figure out the meaning of all 3 pictures in today's post?

Spud Webb could be for J'Marcus Webb, but I have no idea what the sailboat or scrambled eggs are for.

  • In reply to Shady:

    howsabout, Beat the Sea-Hawks? maybe

  • In reply to EnderWiggin:

    Well done!

  • In reply to Shady:

    Thoroughly beaten.
The ship has sailed, this season
    Slammed by four midgets.

(practicin' up for Cubs Haiku : (

  • I've been trying to remain positive, but shit. It's hard. I don't like the kind of licking GB is going to lay on us. Don't come back Jay. We'll get em next year.

    Bear Down in 2012

  • As the game is Christmas night, I may take a pass on watching it altogether and play with my kids and their toys instead. I don't need to see Ebeneezer Martz on Christmas Day and his house of incompetents.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    you are onto something
    with the ebeneezer
    I want some ghosts
    to visit him this week
    scare him out of his
    head just enough
    you know
    about as much as
    his QB replacement
    has frightened us
    so he decides to retire

  • I'm guessing Lovie will say "Hanie is not our QB." We'd be crazy not to start Enderle. The D looked great at times but gave up a lot of plays when Seattle needed them. They dared Jackson to beat them and he did (with the aid of Hanie). Devin is really banged up. You can tell by his body language and he's just not going all out. Our team is just beat to death this year. It happens.

If Martz sticks around and Cutler/Forte are healthy we can play with anyone. Martz with any other combo on the roster and we can't beat anyone. The margin of being successful with Jay/Forte is minute. I'm all for a different OC. One that will allow the QB to change the play at the LOS. Martz's offense was lights out 13 years ago with a fabulous line, HOF RB, really good QB and really good WR's. The league has caught up to him and passed him by but he refuses to adjust. Speaking of adjustments, Seattle made a bunch of them at halftime and we didn't. Game over! Season over! Damn!

  • Well. that's pretty much a wrap for this point in bringing Cutty back now until his thumb is 100%. Why chance risking a re-occurrence.

I hadn't seen a guy(Hanie) squirm in a press conference like that in a long time. Let's face it, the last 4 weeks the Bears have played crap football. I guess finding a backup qb got lost in the shuffle of trying to find a cohesive o-line and a secondary. I'm more pissed than I thought I would be. I guess the horrible performance's lately have made it all that more brutal. Woe I say.

  • Well Brownie, unless you Tebow me in league 2, it looks like we split our League matchups. I guess that at least gives us something to look forward to these next couple of weeks. Jeez, I can't believe I just said that.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

    Yeah, what a revolting development...

I watched part of the first quarter, just long enough to see Knox get cracked like a wishbone. Hope he recovers. Anytime they're rushing you to the hospital to get your spinal column stabilized, that is terrifying.

We have just had a tremendous run of bad luck the past month.
If there is any good news out of all of this, it's that...well, I can't come up with anything this morning.
I'm still watching us on Christmas night.
I'd rather Cutty and Matt did not rush back for it. I'd rather just watch Enderle and see whether he shows anything.

Sitting in the car, listening to the game on XM, my daughter did get really excited about the Bears scoring the Bell touchdown...I, on the other hand, was expecting the other shoe to drop. It's good to have someone else in the household who hasn't been jaded by this unraveling.

  • Jeff's opening monologue for the weekend show was spot on. For those who didn't here it, give it a gander.

  • I would sum up this season with three words: we were robbed. Robbed and buttfucked. We never saw our attacker, but he robbed and fucked us every Sunday for five straight weeks.

  • I don't think I've ever felt that way about an entire season. I've felt robbed of a game, and robbed of a game that ended a season, but never robbed of a season. Even the Bartman incident didn't have that effect.

  • In reply to Crunch Buttsteak:

  • Is there anybody here who doesn't think it would have been worth keeping Grossman in the basement for 1.5 Mil a year? Sometimes you never know how bad it can get. There are degree's of misery.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

I would take Grossman over any QB the Bears have had since, except Cutler. And yes, I'd take Rex over Orton.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I mean hell, if Tebow can get away with a streak like that, so can Rex. And while they could of course not fool god, given their appearance and the notorious eyesight of referees, the zebras might actually think *our guys* should be getting the calls!

  • Lovie, you should have been having this conversation with yourself 2-3 weeks.

  • This is interesting; this is a little more what one would prefer to see regarding a little accountability from Roy Williams, although I'd rather he just made plays.

  • Well, now I'm rooting for the Redskins to overtake the Eagles in the last two weeks of the season...not because I like the Redskins, but because it would mean I'd get to drive up DC next year to see the Bears instead of having to go to Philly.
    At least it's something...

  • On Enderle starting:

    1) Starting is probably too much. Green Bay has a soft defense in some respects (really more against the run), but they bring a lot of pressure and complicated blitzes. If Enderle is developing and halfway decent, a brutal outing against the Packers could be a set-back in his development. But... I think it makes sense to give him a half. You can start Hanie if you want to give him a chance to find work elsewhere, or you can start McKown to see if he's worth keeping long term as a backup.

    2) On benching Roy Williams. I might normally agree since he's not coming back to the Bears next year. But here's the thing with our WR group right now. We've got Bennett, the one guy who will come back and start next year. We've got Hester, who should not be overworked at reciever because he belongs at backup WR so he can be the primary, fresh-legged returns guy. And you've got Sanzenbacher. That's it. Hurd is in prison. Knox is in the hospital. And then you have Roy Williams. As far I'm concerned, we owe Sanzenbacher a bunch of throw so he can earn a spot here or elsewhere next year (staying here likely depends on whether he can play specials). Other than that, I'd like to see Williams playing so we keep our other guys injury free.

    3) On Kahlil. Why didn't Barber get more carries yesterday? Are we still ticked off about last week? But I agree, let Bell carry the ball and earn more touches next year. We need a solid #2, it could be Barber again, but it could also be Bell.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Definitely agree on Williams; we need him to play.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

As far as starting it really doesn't matter who starts unless you have an O line that can protect the QB..which we don't... and we effectively only have 3 WR's since Hester is limping all over the place, of which only 1 can catch the fucking ball anyway... an OC who cannot adjust and call plays to help the QB be successful and give maximum protection.
Even if we had gotten Orton I don';t think it would have been much better, since he would be driven out of the pocket anyway.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Could it be Barber was in Hurds shadow this past week?

Again, I don't agree with Tebow's theology. But this article sums up why what he is doing is a good thing.

  • In regards to your question on twitter about Hanie's NFC title game performance Jeff, let me just say this. I was not impressed. He threw two picks if I remember correctly and GB had switched to the nickel package. His TD's were semi quasi garbage time touchdowns. When the game was within reach, what did he do? He threw a pick.

  • I have a huge concern with our offense as long as Martz is in town. We have now lost Cutty to two heartbreaking season ending injuries and until this line gives Jay the kind of protection he needs, and the Bears find an OC that can design a "safe" but effective scheme, Cutler will not survive as our starting qb for the long term future. Put that in your pipe and smoke it boys cause I feel we're on borrowed time till this happens.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

You make a good point about the injuries to Cutler. This is the second season-ending injury in a row. We've been fortunate both years that the injury occurred far enough into the season that we could at least entertain playoff hopes.

But in fairness to JA, we've got our two 1st round Olinemen on IR this year. Carimi will hopefully be good to go on a fully healed knee, and Williams had sort of a freak accident with the wrist, so I think the O-line will be better next year just by virtue of getting our guys healthy.

If you ask me, we should not draft LT in the first round. We now have 3 guys on the team that play RT quite well (Webb, Carimi and Louis), and that doesn't include Williams who was drafted as a tackle. I would not draft a fourt right tackle unless I feel he's a pro-bowl LT out of the gate (think Jake Long). I think Webb stabilizes that position, even if he needs a bit of help, and we have other needs to be addressed. Williams creates a liability in pass protection (although he's solid in the running game), but again, we don't need a guard in the first round.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

    1. Carimi had this knee issue in college. Let's just hope the dude can be a starter for more than a few games a year. He does the same thing one more time to that knee and he's done. JA LOVES guys with questionable knees.

    2. Agree and then dissagree... move BearJew to the position he played in college (LT) and get us TWO inside maulers. One at center and one at guard who can play either side. It's called drafting for long-term depth. I know... it's hard to recognize since we're bears fans.

  • hanie is done in the nfl... or at least he should be. he was terrible when his team needed him most.

    Go flip burgers dude.

And Angelo continues to miss on the most critical gaps in our team. Oline (and yeah we cobbled together a serviceable line, but as soon as we lost one guy (cookie) it all came tumbling down), we still don't have NFL-caliber starting FS (conte? really?), and in the past I have personally begged for: bulger, rosenpenis, orton, kolb (when he was a backup).

All the angelo apologists can just continue to ride the ‘almost’ bus, but his weaknesses have been keeping this team from making it to the next level for years. You can say whatever you want, but proof is in the puddin, and I’ve learnt one thing… depth is king in the nfl. It’s the only thing. See: the packers last year (barf)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Totally agree MB. I've got no real issues with Conte, Wright and Steltz (unless Wright keeps getting dinged up). They are avg with some upside. Merriweather is gone. However, stop drafting them in the 3rd round. Either get a really good one in Rds 1 or 2 or take a flyer late. We desperately need a good backup QB, a stud OT, another OG, a stud DE, about 3 LB's, about 3 WR's (with at least one of them being a #1) and a stud CB. If a stud DT is the only real value in the first rd, take him. Other than that, we're all set.

The JA apologists will say no team has every position stocked. I agree. However, our needs are our needs. There's no way we can fill all these holes but we must fill the majority of them or we're going to be the 3rd place finisher in the NFC North for a while. I keep reading that JA will be all in this winter since it's his last hurrah. If Ginny opens up the purse we might have a chance to be decent next year. JA can sign good players when he has the resources and it's obvious to everyone and his dog who are the good players. We know he'll fuck up the draft. If JA does step down and Ruskell gets the nod it will be second verse same as the first.

On the coaching front, bring in a new OC and WR's coach. Immediately.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

while we're at it... replace drake too. Drake is the DB coach not hoke right? (too lazy to look)

  • I am asking because I don't know, not because I like Angelo. What quarterbacks have been available in the past 2 years (which were not drafted in the top 4 rounds) that (1) have played well as backup QBs for other teams in that time, and (2) the Bears had the ability to bring in?

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

2 years ago the Texans cut Rex Grossman and he was on the free market cheap. I was inwardly hoping the Bears picked him up. Instead, what do they do? That's right, Angelo signed that stiff Todd Collins. In-excusable. MB is right, but I'm blaming all three amigo's, not just Angelo. Martz knew better, Angelo should have known better. Lovie? I have come to learn that on the offensive side of the ball it's a crap shoot.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

I'm not a rex fan AT ALL. I would MUCH rather have orton backing up Cutty.

Like Jeff says, do whatever it takes to pry him from the Chiefs RIGHT NOW. Problem solved and then we only have to fix our inside oline depth, need for 2 real WRs, our need for a real Free Safety, and the little restocking our aging LBs thing. See... easy.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You're missing the big picture MB. While the Texans were upgrading their backup qb by releasing Rex, our fearless leaders where busy downgrading. Watch the other hand MB, watch the other hand.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

    oh i get that trac

  • Next question. Who is available next year as a GM that can do the things JA hasn't done. Specifically, drafting well in the higher rounds and creating more roster depth. I'm asking because the pool seems rather shallow this year.

  • Potential backup QBs this off-season:

Jason Campbell (will probably start somewhere),
Kyle Orton (will also probably start somewhere or stay in KC),
Matt Flyn (would be a great steal),
Shaun Hill (solid backup in Detroit)

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

king neckbeard is first pick by far... I would love to steal flynn but what's his incentive (besides more money)?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Truth is you are correct. I think we only get Flynn if the Packers don't want to bring him back because they have a rookie they like. Nobody (not Orton, not Campbell, not anybody) wants to play for Chicago as a backup because Chicago already has a franchise guy in the starting role. For that reason, I see us doing well to get either Shaun Hill or Drew Staunton, both of whom are backups in Detroit.

  • I couldnt stomach to watch after the 3rd QTR. I flipped back and forth but it was just too depressing. Ugh what a season wasted! Well here's to hoping Mr Glass makes it back for the Christmas game along with the guy whose pouting over being franchised.

It is, in all honesty, as low of a low point as anything Dave "Ford commercials and crocodile tears" Wannstedt offered us in his reign of crap.

It's so bad, I experienced Schadenfreude when Knox broke his back. "That's what you get for your shitty cuts on grass, you asswipe. Cutler is healthy but for your crap footwork."

Then I realized this Bears season, going 7-4 and missing the playoffs despite a 83% historically of making it, combined with my 7-3 fantasy start only to have it fall apart, has really just pissed me off this year.

  • In reply to Viva:

you have to let it go... It's been especially easy for me this year because the excuse is so viable.

"Jesus, show me another team that could lose BOTH of their stars on offense, AND two olinemen starters and still make the playoffs. Sheeeeit, I'm not even expecting to get in"

I said to myself and anyone else who would listen after the raiders hanie de-pantsing game. And while it's 100% true, it doesn’t make the fact that we were heading to the playoffs with an almost guaranteed worse-case record of 12-4... to go to this shit. Blows.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

that wasn't a sentence, but you know what I mean.

So who won our bet this year btw viva?

  • In reply to Viva:

It's so immature. It's embarrassing. I just watched the karaoke scene from Lost in Translation where Bill Murray sings More Than This and Scarlett Johannson looks so hot and it reminded me of the Bears. It's pathetic. Disgusting. Get hold of yourself, Viva.

  • In reply to gpldan:
