Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers Christmas Night Game Thread

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers Christmas Night Game Thread

I don't know how the Bears do it to me, I really don't. There is no earthly reason why I should find myself excitedly anticipating tonight's showdown with the Green Bay Packers but I am. I want to see an inspired Chicago effort, specifically on defense. And yes if the Bears were to manage a win at Lambeau Field tonight it would somehow redeem, only slightly, this horrendously disappointing month.

Bear down.

  • Bulls/Lakers and then the Pack. Can't believe I'm staying up to watch it.

  • You can pick your friends and your religion but you're pretty much stuck with your family and hometown sports team. That's why I'm hanging around tonight....

  • Bring on Da Cheese.

  • It would really be great if the Bears pitched a shutout and that car dealer ended up giving away a bunch of free cars! That would really make this one a nail biter heading down the stretch.

  • It will be an interesting emotional experience tonight. For the first time this season, I have zero expectations for the game. It's kind of liberating in a way...

  • I'm watching the pregame show and my daughter starts asking me about the players on the screen.
I tell her that there's Jay Cutler and he's not playing tonight because his thumb is still broken (she knows who he is from my jersey)...and that we're playing the Packers and we don't like the Packers...Booo.
She catches the hang of it and tells me two things, completely unprompted:
    1) "The Packers are stinky because they poop their pants."
    2) "The Packers eat their boogers"

That's pretty close to a victory prediction by a 2-yr old.

MBP....from the mouths of babes bra..the mouths of babes...she's a genius in my eyes!!!!..didn't take her that long to understand she bleed's burnt orange and navy blue

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Yup - I'm a little bummed that the Skins lost yesterday (to the punchless Vikings??) and Philly won a meaningless game because it guarantees we're playing at Philly next year, instead of DC.
If it was in DC, I would have made that her first in-person game. There's no way I'd take her to the Linc - those fans are just ignorant assholes.

  • Well, we love being the underdogs..,.doesn't get ant better than this right?

  • ugh...what an ugly mirrored reflection today of last years 17th week...and to be the possible spoils for the fudgepeckers...as they did to us...a pipe dream...just woke up from the Christmas coma to do this and then post..I'm done:

  • Wow, so Cutty wants to practice this week if we beat the Pack and the Falcons lose?

Wonder what that would do for Matty's recovery schedule?

  • Hmm, looks like I'll be rooting for myself to lose in the picks contest tonight.

Sure wish the Niners wouldn't have had that punt blocked, though.

  • Boy, they can tug the heartstrings when they want to.
    What a great story.

  • I'm sure the SNF producers wish they could switch out Desean Jackson for just about any other Eagle every time they show that production.

  • Anyone know who the hell is our backup RB tonight?

  • Merry Christmas to all.

Here's to keeping THE FAT LADY from singing about the Bears' playoff hopes, at least for tonight.

That said, I make the over/under on McCoun interceptions at 2.5.

  • Nick Roach is getting eaten alive already.

  • Man, GB makes it look easy. Can't blame our offense for that...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Yeah - kind of missing Briggs out there right now.

  • Amazing.

Two years and we still have to call timeouts on our opening drives.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

We have a high school QB...

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I put that issue totally on the coordinator and the coach - three different QBs have run the system this year and ALL three have had that issue.
It's one of the rare issues with this team that I'm gonna give the players a pass on.
Whatever is going on, it is player neutral.

  • I hope they have an oxygen tank ready for Bell. He's running hard as hell.

  • That was a Rex Grossman throw there.

  • McCown already looks 10000000 times better than Caleb Heinous

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Makes you wonder might what have been, doesn't it?

  • Sucks on the FG miss but McCown didn't look bad...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

He doesn't have to win it tonight. Just don't lose it like the last guy and he'll probably have the backup gig in 2012....

  • That was a tough run by Shitzengiggler. Bummer.

And then Robbie misses it wide right...well, I can see how tonight is gonna go.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Have you been sippin the egg nog tonight brownie?

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Me? No, but had some champagne since the wife has the alert phone for the rest of the week. New Years Eve is gonna be quiet at the Posse house, thanks to the USAF.

I think we're going shock the world tonight.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Interesting that you, me, and Irish would all have a shot at the combined highest point total title.

My money is on me though.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

It's not on me, that's for sure. My other team bombed yesterday.

  • Yeah, do the Tighten Up!

  • Here we go GOAT.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Or not - keep it suspenseful.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

He just hasn't looked right the second half of this season.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Speaking of Irish, I hadn't seen his post's in a while.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

    Me neither...

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Just catching up now ..... went back to the auld sod for christmas with the twins and missus. Two long haul flights is just a dream situation and I can't wait for the ones back. Catching the vomiting and diarrahea bug was a bonus - it's been a blast ... out both ends. Didn't even get to see the Packers game, first time that's happened in years!

Outside of the football I hope everybody had some nice time-out with their loved ones (and did I see Doc has had his twelfth kid? Congrats Doc).

I can't wait til next season. Again.

  • Looks like I was as wrong about Steltz's abilities as I was about Hanie's...

  • bell's running like Barber. - bruising...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Exactly, but a little more elusive, less power.

  • Woodson goes down and the Packers will be in serious serious trouble.

  • Gator arms strikes again.

  • In reply to TracDaddy:

Looked to me like McCown threw a duck that got tipped on that one.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Yeah, at first I thought that was on the receiver, but it looked on replay like it got tipped at the last second.

  • if we're win gonna win, have to do it without any luck. Mother luck has left us for lost.

  • I love what Bell has done. If the management really want to cut Barber (I think we should keep him) then Bell would be an able deputy. I think rotating him and barber as 2nd choice or even just keep Barber for goal situations.

I'll take the loss if we wipe litter the floor with Woodson and Matthews.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    *remove the "wipe"

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Bell is showing some good hard running tonight.

Always have thought he was a good RB.
This Allen kid keeps picking up extra yards that a -200 lb running back should not be getting.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

He's like a good Garret Wolfe.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

I'm gonna have to go research him a little.

  • Well, I guess our backup running back is Armando Allen. He of the 5'8", 199 lb frame.
Thanks, Josh McCown for hustling your ass on to that fumble..
    That was hustle. Pure hustle.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Yeah, how many QBs would even be in position to make that play?

  • Armando Allen, huh?

  • Man we are so good at running the ball

  • McCown channeling his inner Hanie there.

  • Well, that was at least as bad as any interception Hanie ever threw.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

    And he knew it too...

  • Well, fuck.

  • At least it was at their 30 and not ours...

  • God, we would be wiping the floor with these assclowns if we had Cutty and Forte.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Shit, if we had a healthy Hester, we might be wiping the floor with them.

We just have no margin for error without those guys.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    Even just Cutty.

  • Looks like that INT was on Bell...

  • Merry Christmas, ya'll!

Gotta hate that play. Every time you think Da Bears might be going somewhere...

  • Omiyale's in. We're fucked.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Maybe he'll rise to the occasion....

  • No, not Omiyale

  • "The real Santa Claus likes the Bears" - thanks, kiddo.

Kahlil Bell is playing like a grown ass man tonight. If I'm a Packers fan, I'm getting a little worried about how terrible my run D is.

  • Terrible play call but after the ending to that last long drive, I kind of understand why.

  • Collinsworth: "Omiyle is in at tackle, a position that he hasn't really played at a lot in his career"

I know his tackle play is so bad it would lead you to believe that Cris, but sadly he has been there most of his career.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Hey, don't expect Collinsworth to get all factual and what not.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Also, I'd bet the house that you all read that in his voice.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

DY...all you have to do is understand who those comments are coming from...f ing CC...he could figure a coherent sentence if it slapped him upside the head.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    LOL!

  • well. we ain't falling over and playing dead! Like I said no luck!

  • Colinworth is the mega douche

  • Could be up 9-7 right now. Although I thought that first FG attempt was the perfect spot for a fake.

  • From what I'm reading on Allen, he had mediocre pro day numbers and bad hips. But in college, he produced when he was healthy.

    Wright just takes terrible angles.
    Goldarnit.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

If Finley put up both arms on that one, he was gonna get some broken ribs.

  • Would love to see a hold called on the arm around Peppers' neck just once in awhile.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

hear hear. But that wouldn't protect the QB now, so scrap that.

  • bowman...crap

  • That quick slant is a killer.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

it's is when you don't jack the WR at the line...

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Urlacher's body language sure indicated he wasn't pleased with that technique.

That would be why Bowman doesn't start.
Might as well not even have Steltz in there if you're just going to play him single safety high inside the five yard line with GB in the shotgun. Unless the Packers run a draw out of the shotgun, he's not going to be in a position to do anything against the pass.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I'd rather they brought him out to double whichever WR gets split out to the weakside and let Tillman, Moore, and Wright stay in single coverage against their guys.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Or the run...by the time he breaks to the outside on a stretch or pull, it's a TD. On a pass play, that ball is going to be gone long before he can pick which out of four WR's he's going to cover.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Always has been for us and we've never created a wrinkle to deal with it or told our CBs to rough em up at the line of scrimmage.

    Stubborness runs rampant.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    It's like Rivera never left.

I like Yoda way more than Rivera, and he's gotten way more out of the D-line, so I only kinda mean that.

  • Screw this. The Bears suck.

  • Isn't about time someone trotted out stats regarding winning percentage when the Packers are ahead at the half (and the Bears stats when they're losing at the half)....

  • crap..spoke too soon!

  • Bell definitely needs to work on the ball security.

  • Exactly how they drew it up

  • Well, I thought this would be a massacre but so far I've been pleasantly suprised...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    +1

  • I must admit some of the calls and ball bounces are actually going are way...sheeshhhh

  • so major penis..do you not know HOW TO "F"ING WRAP UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! another 6 yards past your ass

  • I fucking hate dudes named "Jordy".

  • well to f up's major penis...thanks for nothing

  • In reply to lobotobear:

    meant two.

  • I miss Conte

  • In reply to Nagurski:

    yep.

  • I thought the safeties weren't supposed to let anyone get behind them. I don't know squat about the strategy but if I was the safety and saw Rogers rolling out like that, I would but my head down and run deep like hell...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

nope....major's look to missile his ass ten yards away....

  • and now martzy has got that second half boner to throw the ball...FOOK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to lobotobear:

If McCown can't make that throw, I think we're pretty well fucked anyway.

  • Unless McCown has a meltown in the second half, I think the Bears might have found a servicible backup that won't make me cringe...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    agree

  • If GB's line is so beat up, why does Rodgers have so much time to make those throws?

  • boys and girls this is an example of football 101...your O goes three and out for to long and your D gets run down...MARTZ YOU FUCKER!!!!!!!!! thanks for nothing

  • In reply to lobotobear:

We've had exactly one three and out this game, and it wasn't on Martz.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

The offense has done much more than anyone thought. So far this game is on the defense. They stopped the Packers for a while and on several drives did nothing.

  • Now the game is starting to look the way I feared it would....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

yep...I'm out...Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night...blessings to your families brothers and sisters............

  • I think we cut Bowman and we should cut Izzy, sign Mario Williams and a big time WR, then address OL,LB,CB primarily through the draft.

How has Bowman gotten so bad?

  • Jennings has to be loving this...

  • Well, guess it's time for Slingin' Josh McCown to make an appearance...

  • Rodgers has picked on everyone Bowman has covered. I hate seeing the smiles on these fuckers faces. If they leave Rodgers in on the next drive then break the fuckers leg.

  • McCown sucks yet he looks like a field general next to Hanie...who fucked our season with a huge black dildo.

  • What the hell was that, Robbie?

  • At some point, you quit putting Bowman on an island. WTF is he supposed to do?
I can't say, I'm shocked we're getting drilled, but at some point, when you've given up three TDs in the same coverage to essentially the same formation and throw, it's your fault for not changing up the call.
Stubborn as shit coaching by Love-Rod. Martz is calling a pretty good game on the other hand.

  • FUCK the packers and that goofy motherfucker rodgers.

Nice work McCown!!! What would have happened with him in for the chiefs game on? Who's responsibility is that?

Bell impressive. Who the fuck is that other rb???? why in God's name is bowman starting over Moore or Graham????? Brutal season.... brutal.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Moore is still playing nickel, which I'm OK with, but I'm absolutely lost as to why Corey isn't getting first string cornerback snaps.

Even more baffling to me is the defensive calls in the red zone.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, and fool me three fucking times, why am I a coach in the NFL?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Well, I guess that experiment is over.

  • McCown looks like Kurt Fucking Warner next to Caleb Hanie.

And, Robbie - holy crap, I've never even managed to do that in Madden with an on-side kick.

  • McCown just earned himself a good chunk of change next year.

    Caleb Hanie did not.

Let's hope that this isn't the second year in a row we've gotten fooled by a Bears backup QB against the Packers in a season ending game.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Ha, We get one more game next week to see if he is worthy of a backup position. He looks like he is having fun out there. With him in the last four games I think they would have at least 2 of those wins.

  • Jeezuz, why would McCarthy bother challenging at this point? If we ever get the chance to rub it in on these guys, I hope Lovie stoops to their level...

  • I didn't know McCown was so mobile...

  • Mike McCarthy - you're an asshole.

  • And we have a Frank Omiyale sighting...thanks, Frank.

  • Great on-side kick and the coverage team no idea where the ball was. That sounds about right.

  • I can't tell you how much i detest the packers. Counts.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    cunts

  • Well, guys and girls, the dream is dead for this year. But, hey, it was Bears-Packers on Christmas night. You have to enjoy it while you can.

  • Well, in for the penny, in for the pound. Even though it's meaningless, I'll be around to see how they do against the Vikings. I want to see more of McCown and Bell anyway...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Yep, me too.

  • And for those of you keeping score at home, McCown's Passer Rating was 76.8...

  • Well it fun while it lasted...Capers adjusted at halftime and Lovie didn't.. So what's new? At least the O played with heart tonite considering what they had to work with. Next year.

  • fb_avatar

it was a good night for auditions. mccown and bell passed, bowman clearly did not. wright had a bit of a rough night as well and some people are saying cut him but i think that is clearly premature. I would like to see corey graham get a start next week as well. just been bad luck this year but hopefully the football gods will smile on us next year. I guess we have had our share of luck in past years like 2001 and probably a little bit last year as well.
I definitely think cornerback has to be a top priority in the draft next year.
