San Diego Chargers at Chicago Bears Game Thread

San Diego Chargers at Chicago Bears Game Thread

As always, I am here to provide your one-stop shopping for scoreboard watching.

Carolina Panthers over Detroit Lions

I think the Lions may be in something of a free fall and losing this game just four days before meeting the Packers on Thanksgiving would be the nail in their coffin.

Washington over Dallas

It'd be nice to see the Cowboys blow one of these games they should win but I don't see it happening here.

Tennessee over Atlanta

Huge. I've said it many times but it's worth repeating: the Falcons have an easy schedule the rest of the way and the Bears will consider their week one victory the biggest win of the season. Dropping the Falcons back another game here would do wonders.

I should be dropping Tweet bombs throughout the early games. You can read them on the right side of this page or follow me on Twitter by CLICKING HERE.

  • Gotta agree on all the scenarios. The Washington/Dallas game is always a grudge match. Hopefully the Sex Cannon is up to the task. Nothing would make me happier than to see the Kitties lose to Rivera's squad.

  • As old Micky would say:

The Bears are gonna eat lightning and crap thunder!

  • In reply to Shady:

  • Dear little 9 pound, 8 ounce baby Tebus of Nazareth, wrapped in your golden fleece blanket dreaming of continuously improbable Broncos victories.....please make sure my beloved Chicago Bears don't step on their dick today in this obvious trap game. Please make sure to whisper in Rod's ear to release the hounds as he did last week. Amen, Airborne.

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

I like the christmas Tebus best

  • In reply to Bender McLugh:

tiny Tebus, with your golden fleece diapers with your tiny little fat balled up fist in your Tebus pose

  • If any of you spend any time on twitter @NotJayCutler is worth following. He comes up with some hilarious stuff.!/NotJayCutler/status/133761584618160128/photo/1

  • Good morning everyone! One week from now I'll be trying to avoid the inevitable shanking in Oakland but this week I'll be enjoying the game in the comforts of my of my Bear den. Having a potluck for the game with a few other local bears fans. Hopefully the football gods look favorably upon our offerings of burnt flesh and prayers to Tebus.

  • Here's hoping TOMMIE Harris'
"Homecoming" is on a par with CHRIS Harris' last week.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I think the Bears will be more concerned with Garay's homecoming than they will Butters'.

  • No more orange shoes for Bennettron. The NFL said he won't be allowed on the field if he has orange shoes on.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Fucking rodger goodell, what a pos.

  • In reply to Shady:

    roger say's
bet he's a real drag at a party

  • In reply to TheFifth:

  • In reply to TheFifth:

FUCKDELL!!!!!!!!!! Earl the Pearl..if the shoes are your muse dude...GO FOR IT!!!!.......... We will start a collection! lol

  • In reply to lobotobear:

what, is God-del against the charities his league supports?
this is a conflict of interest

he is probrably against people who need some charity
he's thinkin...."f....... those people tryin' to live off of our money
get out of your wheelchairs and get a job you
    lazy bums"
    so said his royal .............ness

orange is part of our colors.... they actully look great
cutler needs to put a headband on with ' ROGER' written on it
    or " orange suede shoes'

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Plus one on an orange headband with 'ROGER' on it !

  • You guys see that run on the GB defense by Lagarrott Blount? hahahahahahaha

  • In reply to Shady:

gotta love that, the only thing missing was that he didn't truck Matthews.

  • Words cannot explain how sweet it is to watch this beatdown of the Lions.

    Stafford is crumbling.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

DYL...The implosion of josie and pussy cat is a beautiful thing!

  • a little inspiration for you blogster's................maybe double deuce has a highlight film someday like this!

  • And now carolina have decided that they don't want to win. Pick it up Cam!

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

C.Avril for the Lions giving up a horsecollar tackle on an incomplete pass. Dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty team.

  • Bengals just ran an option play with Andy Dalton. What is football coming to...

  • Grossman so far has been playing a pretty good game and giving the Cowboys a game. The Bucs are not going away on the Packers as well.

  • Refs are GIVING this game to the cheese.

  • Bucs throw game away. Panthers in the process of doing so. Jags ruin my picks. Cmon bears, change this drudge.

  • So the Packers are holding on virtually every offensive play, and I've counted at least twice one of their drives has been kept alive by penalties (to be fair, justified ones). It may be better to be lucky than good (facing the Lions twice while they're sliding... the whole schedule set up lucky) but in the play-offs it won't be enough.

  • Anyway looks like the Bears have to do their own work today. Can't rely on anyone else ;)

  • Lets start fast and finish strong! Lets go BEARRSSS!

  • C'mon Roy grab that shit MANN.

  • Nothing pisses me off more than paying all of this fucking money for NFL Sunday Ticket then the game is blacked out because it happens to be on local TV then the game isn't on local TV due to other games running long (Cincinnati & Baltimore). I also can't watch it on the mobile feed due to the black out. If they are playing other games running long or in overtime they should show the feed on DirecTV.

  • Wtf is with Roy? Make the fucking catch. Wouldn't be SO bad if he didn't flail around like a fish after.

  • Fuck me, D getting gashed. C'mon guys time to WAKE UPPP.

  • I thought the entire SD o-line was supposed to be injured. Sure doesn't look like it.

  • I hate CBS. Show the end of a different game, then go into a 2 plus minute commercial break in the middle of the game!

  • In reply to TheFifth:

That shit drives me nuts. Especially when I should be able to watch the game on DirectTV after paying for the ticket.

  • Just saw the ref. Triplette and his crew are the most flag happy group in the NFL. Not Good.

  • ATTCK cutler ATTACK!

  • Damn, Spencer killed that drive stepping on Cutler's foot.

  • More CBS: talking about the "receiving corps here in Dallas".

  • Anytime the defense wants to show up...

  • The Chargers are throwing a lot of different things at the Bears. Good game plan by them so far. I think if the Bears can weather the storm early on they will make adjustments as they go.

  • "incidental tripping", huh? Somehow the exact same kind of contact was called PI in the Packers-Bucs game...

  • In reply to christianh:

The NFL wants the Packers to go undefeated.

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

    That's just gross.

  • A year ago at this time I was getting married :)
The Bears better win today just for me.

  • Congrats! Yup, they better :)

  • In reply to christianh:

Thanks- just as I typed that Hester started to make some tracks. Let see what kinda powers I have to use for good today.

  • Anyone have a link to the game...stuck in Cairo and can't find a feed

  • In reply to NVAflyer:

No but I have a former business client in Cairo that I'd love for you to go smack around for me... :) jk (sorta)

  • In reply to NVAflyer:

  • The offense needs to put together a drive, the defense is on the field way too long.

  • Our offense sucks. I think I may have a man crush on Corey Graham.

  • Bears offense looking out of sync, out of rhythm. They need to get something going before the half. Wouldn't mind seeing Barber soften up the D a bit before going back to Forte.

  • Williams is just lacking concentration, always has, always will.

  • Where was the hold on that return?

  • Why do they kick it to him?

  • That holding call was iffy. I don't know why they keep kicking it to Hester in the middle of the field but let them keep gambling.

  • What holding?? I didn't see any holding there.

  • In reply to christianh:

    Great minds.

  • Nevermind. Saw the handful of jersey on the replay.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Yeah that call was correct, apologies.

  • What a luxury to have Hester when you're in a field position battle, though.

  • I get the feeling that Martz is gnawing on his arm just wanting to get pass happy but they are being patient running the ball and staying committed to it. They really need a TD right here.

  • TD BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have so much more confidence with Barber inside the two yard line. Did you hear the contact when he hit...damn.

  • Lovie should have challenged the 2nd down call, that was a recovered fumble and touchdown. Let's hope this one holds up on review...

    The BarBEARian!

  • Barbarian showing Forte how its done!

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

They are a good compliment to each other. Forte is amazing in space but Barber punishes in short yardage situations.

  • How the hell was that not a hold on SD? Matthews tackled Briggs...WTF

  • Bears D getting killed on the blitz, no need to blitz though!

  • Peanut getting abused this drive.

  • Crap. That was too easy.

  • Peanut is not having the same game he had last week. They need to allow him to jam Jackson at the line of scrimmage to offset the timing of the route and allow the Blitz to get to Rivers.

  • Major very static on that last bomb to Jackson. Unacceptable.

  • Missing DJ Moore there, and Briggs got turned around.

  • Tough to cover both Gates and Jackson ....

  • Need much more pressure on Rivers.

  • Need points here before the half.

  • Huge 2 min drill before the end of the half. Cannot afford to go three and out with SD getting the ball out of the half.

  • You can tell they are AFC announcers. When Barbarian scored, on the replay Nantz said, "Wellllll, they said he scored?" Fuck you Nantz his waist was on the goal line, you douchebag.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

  • Yeah EARL! Nice toss Cutty.

  • Fuck Frank Omiyale.

  • Omelette ... oh jesus ....

  • Did I ever mention how much I love Earl Bennett?

  • If Spencer is seriously hurt, then the season is over. Three OL hurt is too much to overcome.

  • Oh no, it's Omlette time. Fuck us!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Omiyale's in the game!

  • In reply to Ufficio:

that worries me.... he is a BUM

  • BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmm, doesn't look like he kept control to me. But we'll get 1st and goal fro the 5 with the penalty.

  • Good to have EB back..... 2 weeks in a row making a difference...

  • This one is coming back. Can they then re-consider and take the penalty?

  • Bananas.... this &*#$ is bananas!

  • The ground can't cause a fumble. Did he have possession to the ground? Did he make a football "move"?

  • Clutts snapped it okay there-here's hoping he doesnt have to do it for a vital FG.

  • There ya go.

  • Clutts in for Mannelly ?!!

  • Great blocking, good patience by Cutler, nice job finding a spot in the zone coverage, BEARS TD!

  • Too many injuries piling up...

  • Yes! Cutler, Davis and the line (with Omelette!) getting the job done.

  • Nice, we botch the last 15 seconds of a half yet again.

  • Fuck this 'icing the kicker' crap. Load of balls.

  • Jesus, Lovie, you're an idiot.

  • Well we got lucky... I'm not one of the Lovie haters (record speaks for itself) but his in-game decision making is very questionable indeed.

  • Mannelly, our all world fundamentals long snapper, is down. Hope it's not serious.

  • Hope Mannelly is ok... I love that Clutts was able to handle the long snapper duties for a minute though! Love that kid

  • Why didn't they call that fumble that we caused that conte picked up and could have run back for a td?

    Why can't that be reviewed?

  • I'll take 17-10 for the first half.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

  • we r getting beat bad down the field.... We gotta put a stop to this

  • Gettin burnt.

  • Corners getting shredded here. We have to start getting some kind of pressure.

  • No sacks today?

  • Rough game foe peanut.

  • Nobody's even breathing on Rivers.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

That's because receivers are getting open too quickly. You have to cover for a second so the line has a chance.

  • In reply to christianh:

That's definitely part of it, but he's getting a lot of time on these plays that develop 40 yards downfield.

  • Damn it. Can't get destroyed like this in the secondary, no matter how many starters are out.

  • And another penalty. CanadaBear called it.

  • Why, oh why do these guys hold on returns?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

I couldn't see it...this officiating crew seems a little flag happy.

  • I am encouraged that our guys seem to be fighting for each yard when tackled...

  • Triple Roy Williams sighting???

  • I think they are going to have to pass a bit to open up the run. Who the hell is this Williams guy? Also, Cutler looks a little jarred after that shot to the head.

  • All right!

  • That was some phenomenal throw by Cutler to hit Knox...

  • Great comeback by Knox.

  • Looks like their pass defense isn't exactly great either...

    That's some redemption.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

He just has the skeleton key to the ball, he knows the spot so if you give him a chance he'll get it out.

  • Alright! Gotta do something with this opp to get some point seperation...

  • Peanut! Redeemed.

  • In reply to Stuck in MN:

    Great Minds!

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was another phenomenal throw by Cutler to hit Knox.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Mmmm yes.

    Jay is getting it on!

  • Big game for the receivers today! Knox and Williams have played really well.

  • Really looks to me over the last 5 games or so Jay and the receivers are finally finding a rhythm. A couple outstanding offensive series.

  • 'attempts at forcing a fumble'?

How do you record that in a game???

  • They gotta start passing. Let's fucking RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    They've been passing for awhile.

  • Whatever Kristin Cavallari is doing for Cutler, I'm a fan!

  • Haha me too!

  • In reply to Shady:

...and just to confirm, I don't care to know. I'm just a fan.

  • I would not want to be the one hitting Tolbert in the open field. That is one fast fat ass dude.

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

Not a problem for Tim Jennings!

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Tim Jennings: 5 ft 8 in Weight: 185
Mike Tolbert: 5 ft 9 in Weight: 247

    Even more impressive considering that.

  • Really nice to see both Knox and Williams get it going. I think the Bears mishandled the situation in preseason but tonight the players are proving they can still play.

  • In reply to Shady:

Roy will just keep getting better for us, and it's a shame we couldn't pull the trigger on getting V-Jack here. Imagine the two of them on the field with Davis/Spaeth ....

  • Ha, I saw this on Twitter "RT @mullyhanley: Zach just reported on WBBM that Knox has been throwing up on the sidelines all game. Disgusting" I guess our players play better sick, last week it was Hester and this week it is Knox.

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

Oh wow, I can't imagine running around between puking.

  • Gotta love the utility man Clutts.

  • So it's good to see that tackling Bears receivers before the ball is even thrown is perfectly fine with the refs. I suppose it was an "accidental trip" again...

  • You see Cutler jawing with what I think was the QB coach? Reading his lips he said "Thats two on you". I think its good to seem him grow up this year and show some leadership.

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

I take that back, it was directed at the official.

  • Let's pound it down the field and chew up the clock. Long slow drive for a TD and this game is over.

  • Sigh.

  • Dang what's Cutler gotta have done to him to have a face mask called in his favor?

  • Thought the same thing. Good hustle to fight through it and delay Cason enoguh for Forte to push him OB

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

If you watch it back, his face nods up and down at least three times.

  • Exhibit A - Johnny Knoxville. You have a ways to go my son.

  • YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I might get my anniversary win after all :)

  • cutler saved that TD

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Yes, just getting in the way and slowing him down then lettings Forte make the tackle.

  • Hahaha Rivers you suck, way to make a play Mage!

  • and we take tha ball away

  • Net loss: 50 yards in field position. Could've been much worse.

  • Just as well Rivers is a ducheyne - what a terrible fkn throw.

  • Major came up big there. Knox better be buying him a steak dinner through the week.

  • Yes! Can't blame Cutler for his int., good to see Bears get it right back. One more long drive and this game is over.

  • plus there goes some more clock
good to see jay burnin the ears of the recievers when they create a bad situation

  • Some of these rules are demonstration....WTF

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

Yeah, players gotta be smarter, though.

  • Great play call with that screen to Spaeth

  • great call

  • Forte is on fire today... puking or not, he's playing his guts out.

  • 7 straight 3rd down conversions! Who Dey?

  • Cutler's doing everything today, man.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

he want's this one as bad as any game I have seen him play for us

  • grear blocking on these screen
    they are set up well

  • That knee was down.

  • Very close, don't see anyway they can overturn the ruling on the field, though.

  • I think Norv Turner may be doing his best Lovie in game coaching impersonation.

  • In reply to Shady:

  • In reply to Shady:

Ha, I was about to type the same thing.

  • 7-3, bitches.

  • if they take this away that replay guy had to be drinkin

  • Yeah isn't this 3rd down? Did I miss something?

  • Phil Simms was brutal all game.

  • In reply to Shady:

I'll take him over Buck or Brennaman.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    Buck or Brenneman.

That's an "..and DEATH is not an option" choice.

  • Odds Cutler shakes hands with Rivers after the game?

  • What a pick by #21. Great play.

  • WTF was that call?

  • WTF was that, Lovie=!??!?!!??!

  • Lovie giveth and Rivers taketh away.

  • that was all just too funny

  • In reply to huntinbare:

podlesh bein podlesh and rivers bein rivers

  • In reply to huntinbare:

agreed. That's the kinda thing I would run in Madden for shits and giggles. The pick by Graham sealed it though.

  • 107 to ZERO yards. Brilliant.

  • That fake was almost Genius.
And WAHOOO INTERCEPTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This game is making me happy!

  • Well, never mind... thanks Rivers.

  • I like the fake punt call. Regardless of the following interception. Lovie doing the unexpected.

How much longer to we have to listen to the Rivers=elite crap ?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

As much as I hate to say it, what they were discussing on may be correct. It seems that he has taken up throwing it to guys hoping they can win it rather than to guys who are open. That certainly seemed the case on the first pick. Second pick well, he doesn't have a Cutty arm, he can't throw it hard enough to beat the wind to get it OB. Maybe he should have tried a pair of Staffords glove to help him throw through it.

  • Was than on Lovie, Taub or Podlesh?

  • In reply to Shady:

Or the "wind" per the announcers... Idiots.

  • Podlesh to Steltz? Ouch

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

    Decent call though, wide open

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

Yeah but wouldn't you think the Bears learned from the Lions' mistake last week? Anyway, good win, and on through the AFC West we go...

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

I liked the call, although I would have smuggled it out to Hurd, pretty sure I saw him on the field during the play.

  • WOW! What a turn of events. Nice to have that 4th down fuckup not cost us the game.

  • did rivers give jay any love
    a freindly handshake
an offer to pay for dinner

  • Not that it matters but that was a questionable call at the end.

  • Gents- it's been a pleasure. Have a great week...
Order your Bears crispie treats for your tailgates/ superbowl parties here

  • Good win folks, now hot Rod better get that line whipped up for next week. I want Palmer on crutches by the end of it.

  • Rivers -SD 21/31 280 2
    Cutler -CHI 18/31 286 2

    Elite? Rivers?Really? FU BOLTS!!!!

Cutty you are an "F"ing beast my friend are "ONE TOUGH MOTHERFUCKER"!!!!!!

  • Observations after watching and drinking too much:
    1) Have I said I love Earl Bennett? (I mean in a football sort of way)
    2) Tough day for Peanut, but balanced out a lot by the forced and recovered fumble.
    3) WTF.... welcome to the Bears, Roy Williams! Please stay.

I wonder how much of (3) was based on watching what V-Jack was doing on (2).

But in the end, more points for Da Bears. A good day.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    Oh, and

    (4) I loved the call on the punt. Steltz so would have scored.

You know that whole call was for the Packers...

  • that was the best i've ever seen Jay Cutler play. not just in a Bears uni, but period. he controlled the game, put the offense on his back, and put his receivers in positions to make plays (what you look for a franchise QB to do). today, he made his teammates better. #BearDown; that's how #CuttyDoesIt

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Yep, tonight was personal for Jay.

  • What is more shocking?

    A. Barber has more rushing touchdowns than Forte

    B. Forte has been held in check for two games.

  • Great game and overall a very convincing win.

Disappointed in the run game department but Jay made up for that.

Why can't we have the offense work both ways? We can either run or pass on you.

Remember the Jets game? How is it Knox can get that open or even catch stuff like that for a game but then the next game he is a ghost?

Does Charles Tillman have the most turnovers by a corner?

  • In reply to Artoo:

The only reason anyone has heard about Johnny Knox - the only reason.he's still in the league (as a WR) - has just gone down for the season.

  • My takeaways from the game:

    1) As others have rightly said, Peanut had a tough-ish game, but really redeemed himself with that FF. Though in Peanut's defense, the Bears were being blitz-happy, and the safeties (especially Conte) weren't in the right position a lot of time. Though as a criticism of Peanut, his strength is roughing up big receivers at the line, and he wasn't putting his hands on the receivers enough to disrupt their timing.

    2) Clutts is a perfect example of why I can't completely hate JA. The guy plays all-out on offense and has been a huge asset there, has been a ST beast, and when Mannelly--one of the most dependable Bears of the modern era--gets hurt, Clutts subs at one of the trickiest specialties in the sport, and does it well. Get used to seeing #44 in a Bears uniform.

    3) Cutler made some sick throws tonight, and any jagoff who wants to call him "soft" can just suck his 12"er after his performance tonight. Not a single "what were you thinking?!?!" throw, even after getting his bell rung by that knee to the back of the head (hey, ref, you love throwing your flag so much, how about a UR or late hit on that play?). And Cutler made a lot of those throws after extending the play and evading not only a rusher, but after pulling free of a tackle. MVP of the game.

    4) Earl Bennett, nice job--as we're getting used to saying about you.

    5) Roy Williams--hey, great to see you on the stat sheet. Keep this up, and we'll forget the first half of the season.

    6) Marinelli & Lovie: stop blitzing so often and obviously. Rivers was toasting the blitz, and your safeties aren't good enough yet to compensate.

    7) LBs: stop overrunning plays. It didn't bite your asses too badly tonight, but your over-pursuit will come back to haunt you.

    8) DTs: not a great performance tonight. Especially on screens--you must recognize what's happening when you have a free run at the QB for no reason.

    9) The fake punt--whoever called it--was absolutely the right call. The down & distance was too far to go for it with the regular offense. But the field position meant an actual punt might yield all of 25 yards--and maybe worse, because the SD returner has a 5th gear. The fake has a decent chance of working--and it was wide open--and missing on it wasn't much worse than a punt.

    10) Refs called a crappy game, but the biggest worry is that maybe the holds on Hester's returns aren't the refs being particularly picky. Maybe the Bears' return teams are being too aggressive, trying to bust Hester free on every return. Or maybe the refs are being extra-picky, calling holds so they don't get bad grades when the high-profile TD returns are reviewed by the NFL. Either way, it's clear: give Hester the corner, and it's even money whether or not he finds the end zone. So any coach who punts to Hester is crazy, stupid, or both.

  • Completely agree on Clutts, Cutler, the WRs, and doubly so on the fake punt. I actually did call it (well called that I wanted to see it there anyway) to my friends, and was mildly surprised to see Lovie do it. I love the aggressiveness in going for the victory there (and the risk/cost was minimal).

My only concern was I wanted not to reveal a back-pocket fake but instead just a run-of-the-mill fake. Toub did exactly that -- this is one reason I like the scheme he uses at the LoS on regular punt coverage where he slides out the inside protectors... because it makes fakes like this trivial to pull off whenever you feel like it. I loved the call... but they definitely need to practice it some more, haha.

The hold call on Bell was definitely crap. The guy spun himself in place, causing his jersey collar to get pulled -- NOT the other way around, which would be a hold. I don't know if the other calls were really right/wrong, but it sure felt like the refs were using a different standard for Hester. Who knows though...

Oh and Peanut did get TDs and some big plays scored against him, but at least one TD was on a Tampa 2 like zone call where he passed off the WR to the safety and sinks. I suspect you can't blame that one on him -- that's either coverage or maybe Conte.

  • Agree with all of that - Peanut can't be expected to shutdown 6'5 receivers week in week out, he did his best and I wouldn't swap him. Cutler was a stud tonight. I doubt Clutts can be attributed to Angelo though, that's more a Tim Ruskell type situation.

  • Palmer dead

  • DyLbear23 you need to have more faith in your offense cmon, saying they suck is disrespect in my book, overall I knew we would eventually get it goinbg offensivly it was just a matter of time Really impressed with Roy Williams Dude looked like AJ out there that drive. defense did what they needed to do, cutler you are looking like drew breesish. well in the second half he was, tillman ok game jacksons great. run D flawless.

  • In reply to Sean:

At the time, they did suck. Roy was dropping pass left right and centre and we couldn't run the ball. We were 1/4 in 3rd down efficiency. Thankfully they picked it up in the second half.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

31 points does not suck, me I Iook at games like hey we will get it going just say we,re not getting it done right now least your not the non fan who was texting on his cell phone during the game wtf, anyways we got the Raiders next I admit I said we would go 8-8 after week 5 thats my fault I disrespected my team, thats the Bears you disrespect them and they will prove you wrong will never disrespect them again unless they truly deserve it. hope cutler is fine.

  • In reply to Sean:

What are you not getting about my statement that they suck 'at he time'? It's not disrespect, it's the truth. When you are dropping passes like Roy WAS, and Forte was running like he WAS, it is a fair statement. Generally my statement would come with an arbitrary 'need the D/ST to step up' comment, which it did with a huge punt downing by #21.

Stats support my claim, "sean". Look at Roys drops. We did (dunno if we still do) lead the league in runs stuffed.

It's irrelevant that we finished with 31 points because AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME, we were not getting it done on O.

    Relativity my good man.

Sidenote: I confidently predicted 12-4 before the season (even put a decent sized sum on winning the division) and then 10-6 after we went 2-3. At the time I thought losses against the Iggles,Raiders and Vikes, so I'm off a bit. Should I rag on you that you disrespected the team because you didn't share the same as view as me? NO. So get the fuck off my back for your dumbass claims that I disrespected the team.

  • Keys to the game:

-Cutler is our mother fucking quarterback
-3rd down conversions all night from all distances

  • RT @JayGlazer: Bears sources tell me Jay Cutler injured his thumb, undergoing further tests to see if broken.

fuck. doesn't designate if it was throwing or non-throwing.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

RT @vxmcclure23: Jay Cutler has broken his thumb on his throwing hand, a source tells me.

  • Well, shit. That's not good. I wonder when it broke - he was playing pretty fucking great in the second half.

  • here's what been said so far:

    1) surgery's probably upcoming, meaning his reg. season is pretty much done.
    2) he could have (operative word: could have) broken it trying to tackle Antoine Cason on that pick. thanks, Johnny.
    3) sources are telling McClure, "Bears are preparing to move on w/o Cutler for a while."

at a loss of words. what. the. fuck.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Cutler's out 6-8 weeks.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

fuck. thank god the D should/will be able to contain at least the Chiefs, Broncos, Seahawks and Vikes. Better get the tires warm on Enderle in practice as well.

  • I was quite amused by the sideline report from Zaidman on the WBBM broadcast directly following the game:

Zaidman interviewing Knox: When you saw what Devin Hester did last week, you couldn't take sickness as an excuse not to perform.

Knox: Yeah I guess when you're sick, you score. So I decided to get sick, and I got a score!

  • Loved this game. Pretty great seeing an offensive domination after last week's total defensive stompfest. I don't mind seeing them in separate games, as long as we put them together in the post-season.

How great was Cutler tonight? He looked so pissed after that knee to the head that took his helmet off, and was basically like "Fuck you, I'm going to go get a touchdown." That and the next two plays were 15+ yards, I think. And chasing down the interception was the play that sealed it for the Chargers. If that had gone for six who knows what might have happened.

Compare that to when Rivers threw his second int, and he just put on his whiny assface. Hahaha.

  • That whiny assface was awesome... I rewinded my feed like a half dozen times to watch it over and over again. It was good for a laugh every time.

  • Cutler broken thumb, out indefinitely? WTF!?!?

  • Season's over man.

  • If Cutler is done for a few games we're going to find out what Hanie can do. Sucks moose wang but that's football. I do like Hanie so I think we have a chance to keep winning. Oakland was going to be a really tough game even with Jay.

  • Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks with a broken thumb on his right throwing hand suffered late in Sunday's 31-20 victory over San Diego, multiple sources told the Tribune.

According to a source, surgery could be an option for the quarterback, but there is no immediate plan to put Cutler on injured reserve. Essentially, he could return for the playoffs, with six weeks remaining in the regular season.

    COME ON.

  • In reply to huntinbare:

that was a costly slip by knox
it took away our premiere player as he sacrificed himself for the team trying to stop a touchdown
it was such a freak play
I believe there is some good to come out of this
and knowing cutler's toughness; he will be back if there is any way possible
just in time to take us to the promised land
caleb hanie will assume the quarterback duties
this is according to vaughan mcclure

it may not be as bad as this seems
the offense will become more conservative
but caleb will have to bring it
    and he believes in himself
    he is not afraid
Jay's story is a compelling one
    don't you think
life is twisting and turning, all who are tied to the bears
but, good things can come from adversity
    buck up boys

    be an optomist
    see the glass half full
you don't gotta like what you got in it

forte, and barber. and a run blocking offensive line, will have to do there part to pick up our wounded leader
and Martz will have to adjust, and stay within his players comfort zones

everybody will step up their intensity
raiders are gonna take an old fashioned ass wippin' next weekend
    be positive
I will be firing up the insence
    all week long
be fearless I don't wanna come here this week and see whoa is me all over this board

  • now this eagles giants game is important , and the lions Packers game just got a hell lot more crucial.

  • In reply to Sean:

Check it out - they lose their first string, and they start winning with the backup ....

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Only because the Giants offensive line is absolutely, profoundly terrible.
    That game stunk.

  • Where's KO when you need him? I hope Hanie can do it.

  • Look on the brightside folks.

We at least won't have to watch old balls Collins throw the ball.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    thank god for caleb hanie
he just has to play conservative and realize that this is a better team than the one he was driving in the last game against the pack
if he keeps the ball in his own teams hands he can get us points

  • I had an ominous feeling all evening, in spite of the win...and then this.
Cutty is playing balls out, saving a touchdown, and breaks his thumb for his trouble.

Caleb - better put up or shut up, homie.
We know you're not Todd Collins. Are you good enough to carry us into the playoffs?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Was it tingling up, or down your leg brownie?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

felt like someone was walking over my grave, actually.

We're going to find out exactly how good this defense really is for the next month and a half.

  • This is exactly why I try not to go overboard when razzing opponents QB's. Not a good scenario to have your qb go down. Ever.

  • Welcome to GREEN ACRES folks.

See Mr. Haney for all your farming needs.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

mr.haney was a crafty old dude
hopefully the other defenses are buyin it

  • Another great win!.

Wishing Jay a favorable diagnosis and a speedy recovery.

Time to step up Hanie. Don't blow this momentum going into another very winnable game.

  • Damn, Damn and Double-Damn!

    Tough to say now

    what's to come...

    all because of

    a busted thumb.

    Burma Shave.

  • 10 minutes to play, game still in doubt and you take your boys on a 7+ minute drive.

    As they say in Espanol

    "Esto es MUY macho!'

  • That sucks about cutty, I had 12-4 hopes for this season. I want to believe we can win 4 of the next 6 to make the playoffs but it doesn't seem that way.

    Fucking season over

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

    stop it
this is just part of a compelling story
    we can do this
the rest of the team will take a no nonsence approach and be motivated by their loss of a great leader
don't think pep and brian and forte are not gonna be keepin' the team focused; especially after this winning streak has proven that this is a team
    not a one player system

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

If we can't beat the chiefs and broncos at least, then we don't deserve to make the playoffs.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    There is "deserve" in football.
    C'mon man.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Missing a pretty significant "no" in there.
Either we win 4 out of 6 and get in, or we don't and we won't.
Caleb has a stellar D, an MVP-caliber running back, a beast of a backup RB, and one very, very good WR.
If any backup has a chance to step in and carry a playoff-worthy team into the end of the yar, it's Caleb.

  • It really sucks but with the entire team playing pretty well Haney doesn't have to set the world on fire for them to go 4-2 or 3-3 over the last 6 games. He came into the NFC Championship Game and completed 13 of 20 passes for 153 yards. That's not too shabby considering the situation. His goal is to get the Bears to the playoffs and hope that Cutler can get healthy. Either way we have six games left. No way I am giving up on them just yet.

  • What if.........and this is a huge if..........Caleb Hanie is Tom Brady?

Give that a minute. We could sit here and doom and gloom it. I did it when I read it. I've been a Hanie fan from the start, and I think the kid has something. Stranger things have happened. I'm sure these were the thoughts that went through the Patriots faithful when Mo Lewis caved in Drew Bledsoe's chest. That turned out pretty well. Thought for once I'd take a "glass half full" approach.

  • is it just me or is anyone else really hoping the giants don't win nfc is tough. I have faith but like to get breathing room.

  • Thank God we've got Enderle to fall back on once Hanie goes down. Better him than some bum like Tyler Thigpen or Sage Rosenfels who've never played a down ... wait ......

Well, nice season while it lasted

So now the only question is ... Alex Smith or Matt Moore in FF? Have to laugh, right? Is that Dandy Don I hear ?

  • My gut is telling me that we will see Nathan Enderle in the 4th quarter against the Raiders. Martz hand picked him in this years draft. Just a hunch.

My Thanksgiving wish: Dallas and Detroit getting their asses handed to them before they eat dinner.

  • Bearssssssss.

  • It's funny how people automatically assume Hanie will be around for the rest of the season. As with all things Bears, this brings us right back to what a CF Jerry Angelo is. Drafting a pie-in-the-sky project as your third string QB when what you really want when your 2nd string goes down is an actual fkn quarterback ..... can I hear the Angelo apologists on this please ....

    Your sentence begins :

"We don't need a veteran QB on the roster because ...."

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Don't agree with you here, although we can find some common ground I'm sure judging many other Angelo missteps. If your team goes down to 3rd string QB, you're not winning anyways. The Packers for years drafted young QBs, developed them, & sold them off. Nothing wrong with that approach.

I'd give Hanie a little more credit too. He looked alright against that Green Bay D and I'm sure no practice reps. If Angelo hadn't given in to Martz's demands for the veteran Tom Collins, the Bears would have come closer to beating them in the playoffs that day.

He just has to steer the ship til Cutty gets back. This is a good TEAM, they will be fine. Just hope it's not another IR case.

  • Oh shit. Goddamn it!

    Just heard the news.

Thankfully, The D, Forte, and Hester have been good enough, we may be able to recover. But it will not be easy.

  • Todd Collins was a veteran QB, that didn't work out so well. Who is out there that is worth a shit?

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

There is one guy who actually knows this offense that may be worth looking into: Mark Bulger...

  • In reply to Viva:

  • In reply to Viva:

He has a brain that looks like a halloween jello mold.
    I'll pass.

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

The off-season, pre-draft was the time to work that one out.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Yeah, you're right, Irish, it would make way more sense to take "Permanent Concussion" Bulger, "Permanent Underachiever" Garrard who by the way couldn't even stick with the Jags, or "I couldn't beat out Tarvaris Jackson" Rosenfels in a year that lacked a real camp/preseason OVER the guy who has been learning the system for three years and kept us in the NFC championship game last year against the eventual champs.

    That's rational.

Oh, and by the way, none of them was going to get any snaps whatsoever with the offense, so you can imagine how well they would perform in Martz' system next week.

  • This offense is different from what Mike use to run..

So, I think anyone can run this ship and the sad thing is I just do not get it.

What did he do to his thumb to make him not be able to play ?

Ben has a broken thumb and he is still playing.

  • In reply to Artoo:

Then Ben's thumb wasn't broken in a way that requires surgery.

The guy broke his thumb and then went 2-2 to finish the game and didn't say a PEEP about it post-game.

Trust me - if it doesn't require surgery, he'll be back out there very quickly.

  • Hopefully it is just six games. That could be enough time.

  • EEESH! That's a death blow to an already mediocre bear team.

They were pretty much irrelevant in the greater scheme of things before Hipster Jay bruised his thumb. Now, it's going to be like watching a blind, de-clawed house kitten with no teeth fight a rabid Honey Badger every time they play.

And since when does a player with a bruised thumb have to miss over 2 months of the season?

Here's to Hanie handing Raji another gift wrapped pick 6 this Christmas!

    January 23rd 2011

  • In reply to January23rd2011:

we will be right with you Packers, Cutler will be back come january, defense wins championships not offense. uhh last time i checked packers d does not look so great. in the mean time we will use you to beat up on teams trying to beat us out of the playoffs.

  • In reply to January23rd2011:

Sigh of relief for you bitches - we were going down to Lambeau to see that 30th ranked POS defense you have to tear you a nice big hole in your perfect season. They're so bad, our 2nd string QB might well be enough to keep that date.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Just like when the bears lit up the Packers earlier this year in Chicago?

  • In reply to January23rd2011:

God you're a fucking tool. Typical yahoo poster response. It's so easy to predict when to expect you douche bags to show up.

  • In reply to January23rd2011:

So Cutler not playing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand, much like his decision not to play with a detached knee last post-season, is a knock on his toughness? Are you serious?

  • In reply to January23rd2011:

If Rodgers goes down, you guys become the Arizona Cardinals in a hurry.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Matt Flynn > healthy Jay Cutler

  • Cutler going down sucks, but I'm giving Hanie a chance. I think he'll be alright.

Does anyone else think the receiving corps looks a lot better without Hester having a significant role?

  • In reply to ChiRy:

We'd look better without Knox having a significant role. Return man/emergency WR is what he is. Playing a little shoulda/woulda/coulda .... picture a V-Jack/Roy/Earl aerial attack. Sexy.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Irish, did you not watch the fucking game? Jesus.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

Having a good catch every three games does not a receiver make. That's pot luck. Knox has been killing Cutler for two years and more, perhaps for keeps now. A good receiver - which Johnny Knox is not - would have more catches by far, and if he hadn't leaned into his route we'd still have a quarterback. So there's that.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

But Waffle - Nate Burleson is ten times the receiver that Johnny Knox is.

  • In reply to ChiRy:

The better looking passing game is definitely more that Cutler has been playing very well; his moving around combined with a mild improvement in pass blocking has eliminated sacks from the last two games.

  • Lovie is facing.... we are faing some very big tests now. We're ranked 25th in the NFL on offense AND defense... we're lacking any pass rush outside of Peppers. we've just lost our QB and long snapper for the season, likely our two first round O-linemen also. Our ST hero Hester is banged up and another injury - anywhere - will be catastrophic ... Lovie might get coach of the year if he makes the playoffs.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

There's no "likely" - Carimi and Williams are on IR.
I hope Mannelly doesn't join them. Clutts did an amazing job yesterday.
    That guy is astounding.

  • Injuries and mishaps are why you have backups. Go Caleb!

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    Exactly - next man up.

This bitching about our backup QB is retarded. We are solidly in the hunt at 7-3, with a relatively weaker schedule left than any of our competition for the NFC wildcard.
All Caleb has to do is manage the game.
And talking about him going down and Enderle going in?
Guys, name me a team that realistically has three starting QBs stashed on the roster. The fact that Todd Collins was a our backup last year and absolutely sucked, is the reason I'm more comfortable with Hanie starting. A veteran "backup" is more than likely a guy who is so physically or mentally broken down that he wasn't worth starting. It's not like teams throw those guys away just because they got tired of looking at them.

  • So, I had a basketball game at 6pm yesterday. Had to tape the second half and watch when I got back home.

Watched the game, then some Gold Rush, and passed out.

Woke up in a great mood... strolling around work, head high, ready to go celebrate with the few Bears brethren...

Me: "You catch the Bears-Chargers last night? We're on point"
Boss: "Yeah, too bad they lost Cutler."
    Me: "What? What What?"
Boss "Where the hell have you been?"

    Me: DBB
    Me: read
    Me: sad
    Me: depressed

  • Hanie will do us fine. I'm not worried to be honest. Sure, I love Jay and I'll miss him but Hanie proved his worth to me last year as I watched him from the stands at the NFC Championship game, almost putting us into the Super Bowl.

I think he's a great back up and as long as the rest of the team plays the way they are playing now we should be good. It was a fluke that Jay got hurt the way he did, at least he didn't walk away after that pick...he went after the ball carrier and tried to stop him. He ain't no pussy!
