A Special Tebus of Nazareth v. Rex Ryan's Jets Game Thread

On the surface this game looked to be a complete bore. But now the Jets are floundering at the bottom of the AFC wildcard pack and the Denver Broncos, led by the angelic Timothy Tebow, are running an offense that has not been seen consistently at the professional level since Yale's Walter Camp famously threw a forward pass to Oliver Thompson to beat Princeton in 1876. It is a fascinating football exercise, pitting a prehistoric scheme against one of the more complex defensive minds around. And I know I won't be the only one rooting for the fella from Florida to drop to one knee a few more times tonight.

I'll be Tweeting for the duration of the ballgame. You can view those comments on the right side of this page or by following me on Twitter by CLICKING HERE.

  • First to say this game is going to be awful.

  • In reply to Shady:

Did you see Tebus's LASER passes, what the heck is wrong with his receivers?

  • Can I have a witness?

  • I'll be a witness but I'm not going to testify.

  • I dont think Jesus would be mad if I punched that guy wearing the jersey right in the face. He'd probably give me thumbs up.

  • that thing is awesome! i want one for my lawn. Is there such a thing as a lawn jesus?

    Btw, is this game televised?

  • In reply to 4ever85:

thanks $ (4 is the same key, but 'money' is a much better nickname... you're welcome)

damn it. I thought my $400 PS3ticket would have gotten rid of that.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Tebus. Did you get any of that cash back yet?

  • In reply to Shady:

Yeah maing... they gave me $25 or $28 or some shit.

know what else I gots? My seahawks fan buddy just sent me MW3 and a turtlebay headset for christmakah and my early bday. Got that sheeeit in the mail today.

Gonna hit that shit up tonight. You get some of that yet?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wow that's so weak, only 28 bucks? Bloody hell.

Yeah I bought MW3 maings but haven't played it yet. Maybe we can fuck shit up this weekend.Anyone else check it out yet?

  • In reply to Shady:

yeah, just shady and me.... some of you other fools get in there!

  • In reply to Shady:

I got MW3 for PS3. I'm not any good, but I'd be down for a session. Let me know if you all want to play!!

  • A friend of mine named her fantasy team Thubs Up Jesus and used that pic as her avatar. Yahoo shut her team down because it was offensive. Fucking A, right?

  • In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

    fucking hippies.

...wait... no... I was just kidding... I was... i swear!

  • In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

I bet a team named "Allah Sucks" would go untouched.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Does anybody know where their 99 virgins will come from?

  • Here's a question.

Why didn't Tebus play for Notre Dame?

Doing the Tebow in front of Touch Down Jesus,

C'mon now...I thought God would have scripted that...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    Or BYU...

They kick you off the team for impregnating women...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

mormons believe in space people. I thought we've gone over this... Jesus's people (not the jews, the new ones) would not approve.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I know 85, it's unbelievable. They even give away scholarships there and all you have to do is play football and not embarrass the school. Pretty crazy huh?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

noooo... it's not like that trac.

common now. The guy had 'relations' with his fiancé!!! I mean, that shit is just silly. That's not making good people, that sticking to old rules that don't work in today's world. Just like some of the constitution.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    he he

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, I think it's more a reflection of the university than some of the Mormons I've known. I used to work with some really cool Mormons, although when they went to BYU they lived by stricter standards. I used to even smoke weed in front of them, and play drinking games with them. Instead of beer, they would drink lemon water. Had some great talks about life with them.
I disagree on the Constitution. If it wasn't so bastardized and "interpreted" to the n'th degree over the years, it would be a great document to live by in this country.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Yeah, the Constitution as originally written was great, especially the part about slaves being 3/5 of a man, women not getting the right to vote... and the fact that the Bill of Rights wasn't in the original document (hence, "The First Amendment").

Point being that the greatest thing about the Constitution is its flexibility and ability to apply to a changing world--not that it was perfect when written, has been unchanged by time, or contains timeless truths (the timeless truths are in the Declaration of Independence).

  • btw, watch #s 78 (LT) and 74 (RT).

We could have had both. 74 is Franklin from miami... drafted in rd 2. and 78 is ryan clady, available FA this offseason.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    ...on the tebuses

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Who's their GM MB?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I'm not sure trac... GP would know. GP?

I do know this... whomever he is, he'd kick Jerry's ass at arm wrestling AND on the SATs

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

He's a year younger than me.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    fucking old guy!

  • Speaking of Unga, what ever happened to him?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

he basically just went AWOL. dude's second kid had issues and he just bailed (which i totally support), but never came back.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Too bad, how's the kid doing?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    yeah it is trac.

Don't know... I wasn't invited to the briss. HA!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

How did you find out about the kid?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    From Wiki :

Unga was selected by the Chicago Bears with a seventh round selection in the 2010 Supplemental Draft.[7] He was signed to a four-year contract on July 21, 2010.[8]

On August 31st, 2011 the Bears received a roster exemption for Unga, who had left the team twice during the pre-season for personal reasons. [9]

  • Is First Row Sports sucking for everyone?

  • In reply to gpldan:

yeah, it's a little better now, but it was really laaaaggging earlier.

  • dude, the harbaugh bowl is going to be awesome

  • bart scott is a good mlb.

  • DJ Smurf out for the Chargers game.

    From the trib :

"It's a significant loss for the Bears against a high-powered offense led by Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Typically, the Bears use their nickel defense almost half the time, but the third cornerback could be in more demand against the Chargers. The hope is Moore is not sidelined more than a week.

"If he can't go, we have a couple of options," coach Lovie Smith said.

Corey Graham replaced Moore when he was ejected early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's victory over the Lions. Graham had just two snaps on defense last season but responded, intercepting a pass from Matthew Stafford in the end zone. Graham made nine starts in 2008 when Nathan Vasher was injured and played 64.3 percent of the snaps that season, but he has had just one start since in 2009.

Smith mentioned that starter Tim Jennings has experience playing inside. The Bears could slide him to the nickel in those situations and use Zack Bowman outside at left cornerback."

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Thanks Irish, very informative. How you know so much?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Ah crap.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I knew we were going to see Bowman.

Lovie can't help himself with his projects...

  • brutal "hitting a defenseless receiver" penalty on Dawkins. Dawkins came over on safety help on a Plaxico sideline route. Plaxico was bobbling it and Dawkins hit him so he wouldn't catch it and got a personal foul called on him. The league wants the defender to allow the WR to catch it, this is ruining the fucking game. These shit calls are now affecting every single game. This shit has to stop. Goodell is ruining the fucking game.

  • Meh, it's the Lawyers, bean counters and bad beer commercials.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

no trac, that just results in tons of annoying commericals for more profit. i'm talking about vague rule changes that are enforced poorly resulting in actual game changing calls that are incorrect almost every single time with no in game ability to correct a terrible blown call.

  • Amen, bring back the holy roller play.

  • I'm with you Johnny. Even when the Bears win, I get frustrated by calls against both teams. The refs can change a game, just like they do in college basketball today. Throw a few cheap early fouls on a key player, and it changes the whole game.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

It ain't worth moaning about guys. Don't you know evra professional sports game is fixed? Forget about it.

  • The NFL needs to define the "helpless" in "helpless receiver".

If the Refs are always gonna err on the side of pussy, those bs calls like with Briggs and Megatron will be called nine out of ten times.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

the rule was designed to stop hits like Meriweathers on Todd Heap. Heap had a ball go threw his hands last year and as he came down without the ball Meriweather put his helmet into Heap's chin.
Now it includes guys in the process of making a catch??? With the ball in their fucking hands??? On a perfectly legal should hit???
It's just sad that Goodell gets to get paid for sucking at his job. If i fucked up like this at my job I'd be shot in the head in a field somewhere after losing a client millions.

  • Briggs hit on CJ was testament to that. Not only can you not hit people anymore, you can't even tackle them.

  • Jets suck

  • They just compared Tebus to Bobby Douglas. Tee hee.

  • Neither of these teams deserve to make the playoffs. The Bears defense should have a field day in Denver when they match up later this season.

  • In reply to Shady:

The bronco's run D looks solid though.

Then again, the Jets are down to their 3rd HB.

I don't know why Rex just doesn't go to the spread and no huddle. Oh yeah, he thinks Sanchez sucks.

Von Miller was my Defensive Rook of Year prediction, and he already has 8 sacks.

  • Jerehmiah Johnson for the Broncos? Wasn't he one of the original members of the Louis and Clark expedition, and one of the original "Mountain Men" out west, played by Robert Redford in the movie? He doesn't look like Robert Redford.

  • Nice way of stomping momentum for your own team, Jets.

It's a little refreshing to know that other offenses take bad timeouts.

  • Dirty dirty Sanchez that was awful.

  • So this is what football looked like before Sid Luckman? I feel like i'm watching School Ties.

The Bears may just break Tebow in half. I predict a 10pt win this sunday and then a 21pt victory against the Broncos.

    rivers dead.

  • tebow.

  • holy tebow

  • that was so fucking awesome

  • von miller is a bad motherfucker. bullrush.

  • are we going to see a Santonio Holmes gem here?

  • watching the reporters and camera people scurry after Tebow as he joined the prayer circle was both sad and entertaining.
    Scurrying...like mice.

  • I picked Sanchez over Tebow in FF.

    Sanchez 8 points
Tebow 6 points, until the last 3 minutes of the game.

    Tebow 16 points.

Fucken Sanchez. And Fucken Vick for not wearing kevlar before his ribs crack. Idiots.

  • Jets blew that one at the end.

  • Denver's offense looks very beatable after this game. But the explosive drives Tebow keeps pulling off at the ends of games make me glad we'll get a few more weeks of film before we play the spread. Only wish the Denver injuries would have lined up for us as well... well on to play the third best team in that division.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

We are going to destroy Denver's offense. Their defense is super strong though and Dumervil has been a bastard against us. Von Miller is downright scary. We will win on defense and special teams. If we have a strong creative plan of offense the other two phases will create separation and victory will be ours.

    rivers dead

  • Tend to agree with you. We won't do well if another O-line guy gets hurt. Denver's D won last night hands down.

Worth noting, last nights game featured 2 defensive TDs and only 1 offensive TD.

Denver's D went something like 8 consecutive drives going 3 and out. BUT, they scored in a key 4th quarter situation - we've allowed those scores to happen before. Hence, the concern.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Actually there no offensive touchdowns. Tebow TDs belong under their own classification.

  • Rex Ryan can now STFU about Mark Sanchez being a great QB. He's a puff.

  • Tebow!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Von Miller is awesome. Can we trade Enderle for him?

  • Gotta love them Jet's fans. Listening to them on Sirius this morning reminds me oh so much of us in '09. I feel your pain NY. Hee hee.

  • It's time to admit that Jerra hasn't been that bad as a GM in recent memory. Look at all the recent FA moves by the Jets, Pats, Eagles this year. Signing Peppers was "Epic".

  • So if the Colts really do put Peyton Manning on the trade block... what do the Jets offer for him? I think the Cutler trade is probably a fairly good precedent.

If its me... I trade the #1 pick and keep Peyton if I think he's healthy. You don't bet the farm on one draft pick... Andrew Luck could be the next Peyton Manning, or the next Ryan Leaf. More likely he'll be Sam Bradford - solid QB, but not enough to win by himself. You trade the Luck picks for a first rounder this year and next, plus a couple more on top of that (maybe this year's 2 and next year's 3). Suddenly you can take Manning's last 3-4 years as a truly dominant QB along with a lot of extra help on both sides of the ball.

Of course, the Colts have a lousy GM and he'll probably waste the picks.
