  • feels good to be 1st on here & in the picks contest. bow before me, minions!!!!

  • In reply to FQD1911:

  • FU, FQD. J/K!

    Rams +13
    Browns -3
    Chargers -2

Wanted that Colts +14 but you ganked it. Please and thank you. Go Bears, get back home safely!

  • You just can't take all three Perno. You can take same teams just not same three as us.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

Aha! My picks sucked anyways. Thanks for the explanation, I should have known that.

  • Attention Olin Kruetz apologists:

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Once a Bear, always a Bear! Tough to have the same passion for a team you really didn't want to be with. He tried to change his true allegiance to be able to play a game he loves, just couldn't make it happen. Once a Bear always a Bear!

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

sorry to say murph, but I have zero sympathy. Angelo actually offered him WAY more than he was worth (shocking I know) ... and he made the choice to leave. I also believe it was to the betterment of our o.

Just terribly played all around by him and his agent. It was his fault the way things turned out, not the bears.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

  • My picks:

San Diego: I doubt if Philip Rivers will spend the game forcing the ball to To Darelle Revis. Antonio Gates returning to the lineup won't hurt either.

New Orleans: That's a LOT of points but the Colts seem challenged to score as many as 14 and the Saints home and P.O.'d coming off a loss to the Bucs is not a good RX for Indy..

Tamp Bay: One of my "Insurance" picks. the Bears HAVE to have this game to stay relevant so I pick against them. Also, I fear that Madman Martz will not stick with the formula that so obviously works best for the current Bear Offensive personnel. Likewise, Chris Harris starting again inspires little confidence.

  • Olin quits on the Saints. He is a Bear at heart I imagine. Garza has done a decent job, and if our O-line can keep playing like they did vs the Queefs we should be OK, especially when BJ (bearjew) returns. Too bad Bennett won't play, I hope we play the Saints again and someone lights-up Roman Harper, like put Meriweather in on offense and tell him to spear Harper on a slant pattern.

  • In reply to GuinnessPlease:

    Yeah, fuck Harper.

Here's my Olin spiel that I'll repeat now from PS.

The Bears gave Olin a deadline, something like "you got till this afternoon." Olin, having been around for 13yrs interpreted the gesture as "They don't want me" because usually in NORMAL FA circumstance, that's what it means.

However, this year was NOT normal FA protocal. It was a freaking shark feeding frenzy, and the Bears actually gave Olin more than enough time and a quality offer than he was actually worth (the market proved that).

Even Asamougha was told "You got 3 hours to decide" by the Texans who REALLY needed secondary help. Asamougha's a thoughtful guy and replied he needed more time to decide. "Sorry." The Texans didn't wait and signed Joseph instead.

Olin probably realized the extenuating circumstances of FA this year all too late.

Sad. Maybe in a few years he can come back and help Tice whip up our boys into true Bears.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Yeah, and so far as I know, the bitch wasnt even fined

  • Cutty needs to keep it UK real this week "tell him I said to piss off"

  • Panthers (-2.5)
    Broncos (+1.5)
    Champions (-9)

  • Falcons +3
    Chargers -2
    Broncos +1.5

  • DAMN, U guys are quick!

I was waiting to say, "First to say, it's my Bday!" But you bastards stole my thunder.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    Happy bday 4

  • In reply to MB30SD:

thx MB. I was actually in SD last weekend, it was kind of a last minute thing.

I like that the beaches don't charge 20bucks to park like over here in L.A.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

state sponsored capitalism Irish... coming to a beach near you.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Happy B-day 4. Hope the Bears provide a belated B-day present.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Cutler gave me an early one when he told Martz to fuck off.

When the Bears win and Mullet tears Rodger's arm from his body, the trifecta will be completed.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

well 4--85; you too were concieved in february
    happy birth day

  • In reply to huntinbare:

I don't like to imagine when my parents got it on, but thx 4 that little present Huntin lol

Going for Suishi and Sake bombs, followed by some Karoake.

Oh, and I got a sweet Bears blanket. Last year, I got the Bears Cleatus Robot, which my nephew always wants to play with!

    "No, No, that's uncle's toy".

  • In reply to 4ever85:

on sunday I will think about the butcher and his wife makin' this body for me
    back in february of '53

i just hope my present sunday
is a spectacular finish to a
    LooooooooooOOOOOOOONG ass road trip

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Cartman-esque, 4E85, but happy birthday mang.

  • Bears

  • Kyle Boller getting the start for the Ray-dahs.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Holy shite. I fancied OAK in the later games. Then again, it's not like he's standing in for Tom Brady .....

  • Didn't the Taint's make Olin a fucking captain? And he just walks away because he's not "feeling it" ? What the fuck is that shit? That's brutal.

  • total bullshit move on Kreutz's part. Never thought i'd see him quit in the middle of the season.

  • Said he didn't want to just collect a check, and was battling an injury. So I'll give him some props, instead of a "what the fuck is that shit?".

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Murph - in the middle of the season? WTF mang

  • This whole Olin biz is weird for numerous reasons.

One of the huge selling points about Kreutz is that he never misses games, is tough as coffin nails, and has good leadership.

That's really the only reason the Saints even hired him AND made him a Captain.

So, I can understand from the Saint's perspective that they feel short changed. I mean, what kind of a message does that send through the locker room, he's basically saying, "I'd rather retire than play for this team and organization."

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Gotta disagree with you on this one Mongoloid. Olin fucked his team, in the ass without any lubrication. If he had any doubts about the season, he shouldn't have signed the contract and Nawlins could have went in a different direction. I always respected Olin, but that respect is gone now. Sackless my friend, sackless.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Yup. Respect. Most guys would have kept taking the check until someone said otherwise. He put his hand up and said "I can't do it.", rather than screw his team. Mind you, I wish he'd done that last year.

  • "The Jag-waws awe gawb-age!" - Hilarious.

    I agwee. Way Wice.

    Steelers -3.5
    Bears -1.5
    Ravens -8

  • Jolly good show, Hughes my boy, jolly good indeed. But do I have to quit reading Melissa Isaacson too?

On Olin, it's all good with me. It's his life and all that. Just makes me wonder if he was already feeling the earth move under his psyche in the offseason.

Biggs is reporting that the Bucs are going to try and avoid a Devin Hester Humiliation at all costs Sunday, citing their success at limiting Sproles.

Heh. Alrighty then. We shall see.

  • In reply to Sdwat52:

Their kicker's got a hell of a leg, so he might be able to limit touches on kick-offs (which will hopefully be few and far between), but punting's a different beast. Once the ball's in Devin's hands, anything can happen. Hester vs. Sproles - that's not even close.

  • It's Tony fuckin Danza:

  • In reply to Crown:

was that travesty on someone's taint?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Al mother-effin Bundy in da house

  • In reply to gpldan:

  • In reply to gpldan:

I don't know why studios didn't combine shows after they lost popularity. I would love to have seen Alf the alien and Al Bundy on the same couch, with Alf's comments getting more x-rated.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

What a coincidence. I've got Tony on one bicep, and that man-lookin bitch Angela on the other. Guess where I've got Alyssa Milano ....

  • In reply to Crown:

That should be the name of his new show, featuring has-been child stars etc. "It's Tony fuckin Danza!"

  • Chiefs, Fudgies, Browns.

Gotta love Devin's already in their heads. Time to break out the Johnny Knox fake job. Hope we smoke those Fuckers!

  • I gotta respect Olin on this one. It sucks for the Saints but he is being true to himself. Too bad he fucked up so bad and turned down the Bears offer. Too bad for him. I think we've done OK without him. He'd make a good OL coach.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

too close to the game still Canada. Like Mike Brown. He'd be a great coach but at this point he would probably be better than Chris Harris out there so it would be too painful to coach him.

  • moment of silence for my namesake Johnny

Btw, which onna you fools said this year would be a pulled hammy-fest because of the short preseason? Whomever that was.... kudos.

  • I'm liking the idea of Harris in there to deal with Ernesto, not so much when Winslow is pegging it straight down the seam with his hand in the air and Harris is MIA.

  • In reply to gpldan:

lovely timepiece gp. You probably have one in your foyer, right?

  • Rams, Ravens, Bears

  • The Seahawks are starting Charlie Whitehurst and the Skins are going John Beck.

Just taking a moment to appreciate Cutler.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I'm going to back the Panthers off the back of Beck starting. Carolina's turn to actually beat somebody. Cleveland seem to be a popular choice, but I'm scared off by the fact that the Hawks have the #1 rush defense in the NFL.

Love that Michael Silver has picked the Bears, when everyone else has picked the Bucs. The guy is averaging 3 wrong picks a week, but that's skewed by one bad week, he mostly has gone 14-2. Impressive.

  • Bears

And I couldn't think of a great Bears costume this Halloween so I'll be going as the Ultimate Warrior. Now where the hell can I find those ridiculous shorts?

  • San Francisco, that's where.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I thought the Florida Keys was the new San Francisco?

  • In reply to EnderWiggin:

    Key West for sure...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Actually, my first and last trip down there had me thinking Key West is a combo of SF, college spring break and the Bowery (pre-gentrification). Throw a little Third World in there and you're good to go...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

it was great in the '70s
then it started to change into a $-maker
    sunsets were the best
worshipping the sun with the gypsies
the brownie lady was my favorite

she took my eye off the ball

  • I think I was the Ultimate Warrior at least twice.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Ooohhhhh yeeeeeaaaahhhhh!

  • The Bears finally have good safety play last week, and now Wright might not start. That sucks. The musical chairs is getting really old.
The fucking asshats at the local Fox affiliate are showing the Lions-Falcolns game over the Bears game. That hasn't happened since the Wanny days around here. The bar owners should be happy.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

i am sure it is tampa, that will be the reason the bears are on in swfla

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Fifth! Hey where you've been lately? We've missed you here, and at the pick'em league too. You've got 3 zeroes, which are all dropped -- so you can still go toe to toe with the leaders, but you just won't have any breathing room for bad weeks from here on out.

But you're in very good shape still. Pssst, BTW don't forget to get your picks in. Deadline is 5 min before each game, in case you forgot (after your long hiatus)...

  • In reply to Michael L:

Been busy fishing and going to concerts, with lots of work in between. I thought I saved my picks for a couple of those weeks, but they didn't go through and I couldn't check because I was gone. I was pissed my week three picks didn't register, I would have had over 100 points. I'll get back into it.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Sounds like some relaxin' times. Which concerts BTW?

Hey if you want, you can set your picks to be editable by the commissioner, and then email me picks. I don't really do any of that, but if you're going to be gone a lot then I can maybe check up on your picks some weeks. BTW make sure to look for the green "COMPLETE" status before you conclude it's saved your picks (or click on "group picks" to see if they show up there).

  • In reply to Michael L:

Mostly fishing, but I went to a couple Warren Haynes Band shows (soul, funk, blues). I'm a Warren Haynes / Gov't Mule junkie. Just got tix for the Warren Haynes xmas jam in NC in December. It's a 9-10 hour extravaganza with all different musical styles.

  • Bears
Chargers (Hope Philip tells Norv to fuck off this weekend.)

  • Packers

  • In reply to SC Dave:

WAIT! I can't do that. What a tool.

    How about

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Dave, you picked the Packers and the Vikings. They both played each other.

  • Bears

  • Regarding the Hester comments from the last thread, sorry I misunderstood. I just saw the "and a sprinkling of Hester/Knox" and the "maybe some Hester" comments and reacted -- I forget sometimes who exactly is on which side of the Hester as WR line (well other than Irish, haha).

Doc, no offense taken to the Cliff comment. I won't deny trying to be a know-it-all, although I'm a lot humbler and less obnoxious than the younger version of myself ;).

  • In reply to Michael L:

wow mike. Tell me you're big too.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ha, nope. Unless you mean... never mind.

I've got the build of a retired DB (or one of your very own smurf WRs). Retired meaning if 10 pounds migrated into the midsection... Haha.

  • If I were a betting man, I would lay down a few bucks on the Vikings to upset the Packers this weekend. Not because it's wishful thinking, or that I think the Packers suck or the Ponder-ing Vikings are better - far from it - but because it just smacks of that kind of game, where no one sees it coming even from inside the Vikings locker room.

I think it gets exciting as all hell in the 4th quarter, and I think Minny pulls the upset of its history as a franchise.

Meanwhile, across the pond, I believe we'll see the same Jay we've seen the last 2 games - only better - and I think he'll take the Bucs apart on highlight film levels. In an earlier thread, someone tossed Dane's name in the same file folder with Steve Largent's, and I think that was spot-on. He's not there yet, but his resume is only going to be better by 4:00 p.m. EST/10:00 p.m. Tea Time.

And while we're in Merry Olde England, let's all take the crumpets out of our mouths long enough to cheer on Robbie Gould, who's on his way to a record, and needs only two FG's Sunday to get it.

Show 'em what football really means, Robbie, and own it.

  • In reply to Sdwat52:

A field goal kicker showing the bloody redcoats what football really means? Ironic.

  • In reply to Sdwat52:

Sanzenbacher? Somebody compared Dane with Steve Largent? Are they the same height and weight or something?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Largent did not build a career in a third of a season, nor should we expect the same from Dane.

  • Bears

  • Got to admit, so far this season has been f*ckin bizzaro world. I could not even be able to rattle off the littany of F-up things that have transpired; record setting O-line (number of false starts in a half); bi-polar play calling by Martz; worst D in a generation in giving up big plays; players demanding to be traded during the season; musical chairs at O-line AND safety positions each game; the Olin fiasco; Angelina actually telling reporters that he did more than any other team in revamping the O-line; our best (statisically WR) is an undrafted mini-me Welker wanna-be; Martz, just Martz--he's a tool.
And my favorite so far is Cutty ripping Martz the infamous F U clip. Gold....Jerry....Gold. We're not a top team right now, but we're not boring.

  • Roy takes a look at the Forte's value in the current market, compared to the Bears' offer:

Interesting read. I hadn't known about Jamaal Charles's contract in particular. I guess you could argue none of these backs are worth this kind of money, but it's hard to argue the market isn't what it is. When it's all said and done I think $8M+/year might actually be the fair price point for Forte. And if the Bears want a 6 year contract, I don't think they can look to put up any less than $20M guaranteed.

(P.S. Doc, reminder to get your picks in...)

  • In reply to Michael L:

If they had to franchise him they'd end up paying him $8m anyway.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Yep, that's why I wouldn't be surprised if the extension doesn't get done.

A franchise tag would pay him $8M for next year, and if they franchised him again it'd be 120% of that or the new average -- so figure $9.6M for 2013. Since that's the market rate anyway, it would be less risky to the front office to go that route -- because then if Forte gets injured or his production falls off (...or if the RB market numbers come down...) in the next 1.5-2.5 years they can sign him to a cheaper contract. (Or if they hire a new OC after this season that doesn't value Forte as highly... etc.)

What that means sadly is that the only reasons to pay the man vs using the tag are 1) if you're sure Forte will produce at an elite level for at least 3.5 more years, 2) for locker room peace/player happiness, or 3) if Forte is willing to give a discount. Personally I'd rather see him locked up, but in this case JA might actually be doing the right thing. Blech.

  • In reply to Michael L:

Either way Forte's going nowhere, I'm more worried about what they might do with Briggsy. It seems most people who piss Angelo off get sent on their way.

  • Steelers -3.5
    Packers -9
    Ravens -8

  • Huge football game for me tonight. Wisconsin over Michigan St. I love the OC Paul Chryst for Wisconsin. He would make a great OC for the Bears. Runs a pro style offense and has tons of creativity. Fuck em' Bucky!

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    peter konz.... peter konz.... baby

  • More food for thought. It's always silly to have "on pace for" discussions before about 2/3 of the way through a season, but... there's no question Forte's production through 6 games is still pretty remarkable.

  • Surprised so many people picked the Lions. They couldn't run the ball before, what's gonna happen now? Falcons should expose them again.

They're riding the motor city band wagon all the way to the cliff ninja. I have a sneaking suspicion the wheels are about to come off. I see 7 or more losses on the horizon for Da lyens.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

they will be stripped to the hubs when we get through with them
they will have to walk back to michigan
or float a raft off navy pier

  • In reply to number1ninja:

They don't win games on the ground I'd guess. Morris is a vet. Stafford-CJ, and the ATL defense is crap. Home game. Suh-nami. Meg Ryan. They've got heart to come back twice the way they did. The Falcons are all talk and 'potential'.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Nothing wrong with any of those statements Irish. I just have a gut feeling.

  • Last week, I won my confidence pick game with my boys and only missed the Saints game. This week, these are my picks:

    13. Packers
    12. Saints
    11. Ravens
    10. Cowboys
    9. Steelers
    8. Raiders
    7. Texans
    6. Panthers
    5. Dolphins
    4. Seahawks
    3. Bears
    2. Chargers
    1. Falcons

Anyone see any flaws in my analysis? Feeling good about these.

  • In reply to Crown:

No spread? Texans are a 30 minute team, the Titans are better than people think and CJ will get his groove back. Denver over the Dolphins all day. Detroit over ATL. The rest look good but there are those who think SD haven't beaten anybody. The consensus seems to be on CLE, probably because the Seahawks are starting Charlie Whitehurst, although they have the league's best Run D. That's a coin flip.

Coinflips : ATLvDET, SDvNYJ, CLEvSEA and HOUvTEN

  • Bears

  • Bears - as always
Broncos - Tebow day, sure why not (and miami is that bad)
Ravens - The kid is right, the Ravens win easy if Joe Flacco doesn't suck.

  • DET -3
    CHI -1.5
    NYJ +2

Almost took DEN +1.5 or IND +14. I reallly hope I'm wrong about DET though...

  • In reply to Michael L:

YES, glad to be wrong about Detroit. Oh well, guess I should've gone with DEN or IND...

  • I see Miami won the Luck Bowl.
