Chicago Bears Should Trade for Brandon Marshall

Chicago Bears Should Trade for Brandon Marshall

The NFL trade deadline rarely involves any significant player movement.  It just doesn't happen very often in the league.  But there is a deal that can be made right now by the Chicago Bears that will make them better for the next five years.  They Bears should deliver a third-round draft pick to the Miami Dolphins for Brandon Marshall.

  • The Miami Dolphins are sure to be looking at a top five pick this spring and have no reason to hold on to Marshall if they can get anything in return.
  • Marshall has been dropping TD passes for the Dolphins and the press has been killing him.
  • Cutler equated Marshall to Calvin Johnson last week during his press conference.  When asked what he thought about the prospect of playing with a Calvin Johnson-type he said, "I played with a Brandon Marshall-type."
  • The fans in Miami want Marshall gone too.
  • Marshall is only a year older than Calvin Johnson and would give the Bears a core of players at quarterback, running back and wide receiver moving forward.  If the Bears were to get Carimi back healthy and draft a first-rounder at the other tackle spot, the turnaround for this club could be quick.

This is not a fantasy scenario.  This is an easy deal for the club to make and a deal that should be made.  It would send a message to the fans, a message to the players and a message to quarterback.  That message?  We're going to do everything possible to make our franchise quarterback successful.

  • I like it. We can give them Roy Williams as well.

  • Cmon son. How does this help? Did I miss something last night? Cutler had no time to throw to any WR we already got. So how the fuck would he throw to Marshall? A WR does not solve shit. We need fucking Oline asap. Or this season is doomed.

  • +1

  • Jump balls, Fres. Cutty has no one (other than Kellen) that he can just toss them up and have somebody go get it.

I wanted Marshall from day one. We should have made a move on him when the price was a 2nd rounder. Has it changed? But yes, Jefe, Marshall would be a huge difference to Cutty on a rollout. The beast needs to be reunited with the man who threw him over a hundred passes a season.

Thing is, we should have done it two years ago when Josh McTard had a brain freeze and decide to run his two franchise players out the door.

  • another pipe dream by us fans who can run this team better than the fucks who do.....
I'd be suprised if it happened....

BTW....none of our offensive linemen should be professional athletes.....NONE

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

Love the Oline point. Our tackles are gawd awwwfull.

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

My son characterized them last night as "absolute trash". Pretty spot on.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

Watching that game last night, and more specifically the sequence of events around the 3rd and 1, to 4th and 1 that saw us burn a time-out, pass on a chip shot field goal and then burn a time-out and a challenge and come away with absolutely nothing really hit home. I'm tired of the continued waste of talent and effort in the wrong schemes led by the same schmucks. No pressure on D, no fear in the opposing QB's eyes when they face us, that's not my team. We didn't bring in Cliff Avril to bookend with Pep, and we could have. We still employ Omiyale, and that probably says it all right there. I'm frustrated, as I know all of you are, because I'm going to watch Urlacher, Peanut, Briggs and Peppers walk into the sunset in a few years having accomplished nothing because the system they played in didn't allow them to succeed. Fucking shame.

  • "This is an easy deal for the club to make and a deal that should be made"

Which is exactly why angelo won't go anywhere near it. This or and this team are hosed until he's gone. Bottom line.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • Jeff why did jerry angelo get a quarterback for two first rounders and then shit in cutlers face and draft only one offensive tackle a defensive tackle and a safety he should have got gabe carimi then second round a center then a reciever he has fucked away our superbowl dreams by not helping out cutler fire him now if we want a chance at a title. Bear down.

  • In reply to Sean:

Two first rounders .. .a third ... and Kyle Orton. Ahem. And Chris Harris was maybe the worst player on the field on Monday, for whom we gave away you-know-who to get back a player we'd already gotten rid of.....

I hate you Jerry Angelo, and hate is a strong word.

  • If Jerry can get Marshall for a third rounder, you have to do it. It's not like we'd put that pick to better use?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Actually, we'd probably be better off giving them a 1st with Angelo in charge. Then he might decide he has money to pay Forte.

By the way Jeff, does Matt's performance last night move him a little closer to that "elite back" category of yours?

  • In reply to SC Dave:

By the way, lists Forte as the league leader in yards from scrimmage for non-QBs.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I tweeted Zaidman asking why a back who is on track to shatter the single season yards-from-scrimmage record (currently held by Mr. Moneybags - Chris Johnson) is getting paid $550k.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Fkn A. Mike. He'd be a hell of a third round pick, no matter how many he dropped.

  • Meriweather is the Clubber Lang of safeties

  • In reply to gpldan:

that dude is one big flying fucking spear.... unfortunately, it's almost always into a pile... late.

Dude can't cover for shit... but his long ass gangsta-dreads look haaaaard when he's running from behind to catch someone scoring on a long, blown-coverage TD.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

and cutting off the other safety in the process.
    He's done that twice now.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    oh yeah... swooooooooooole!

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

In fairness to Merriweather, he almost tagged CJ on that TD where he was CH's responsibility. But like the NFL Network boys said, if you don't jam a receiver like CJ at the line, the safeties have no chance.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Like I said day 1, there is a reason the Patriots cut him

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I thought it might have been off-the-field issues he got cut for ... seems it might be his on-the-field-issues after all ....

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    billacheat ain't no dummy

  • Jay had Marshall two offensive coordinators, thirty five offensive line lineups, approximately 5 concussions, one stabbing, three mental breakdowns, and over 100 sacks ago.

That is worse than a band aid... that's a so fucking what.

You. Can't. Throw. When. You're. On. Your. Back.

Fucking A. Would we have won any of the three games we lost with Marshall? No.

At this point, it's just a reason to fire up the meatballs and sell more jerseys.

    Fuck that.

    (But, I'll take him)

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Thank you and fucking a Amen! We need oline. Marshall don't solve shit. Seems more of a fucking headache.

  • He fits the "oh shit, better run out of the pocket" offense we currently run better than the timing routes that the smurfs are supposed to be good at.
So, he would be an improvement - just not the improvement that we really need.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I would love to hear the Soldier Field chant: "WE WANT BOOTLEGS" STOMP STOMP STOMPSTOMPSTOMP

Insert "Shotgun", "OLine", "Defense", or any other appropriate 2 syllable word...

    Ryan Sandberg.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

  • You left out another important piece. The Bears currently own two 3rd rounders, one of which they got in the Greg Olsen deal.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Turning Greg Olsen into Brandon Marshall would be a great Christmas present for Bears fans.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

And of course it wouldn't be right to give JA credit for making a shrewd move if that were to happen, right? Because any fool could have done it, right? ;)

I'm just messing with you, haha. That would certainly be quite an interesting turn of events, no doubt...

  • I like the idea actually BUT...

BEFORE any trade talks with ANYONE for ANYONE.

    PAY FORTE fucking cheap suckhole!!!

PAY MATT FORTE NOW!!!! YOU stupid turd!

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

Yea cause that guy is our offense. Without him we are shit.

  • Sad thing is, right now we're shit WITH him and he is on fire.

  • He's only 50% of our Offense Fres lol

Literally, 50% - the most since OJ, and Forte's getting paid like OJ - in 1973

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

+$15,000,000 (or whatever the magic number is)

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

Considering we're 19 Million under the cap it is strange that Angelo has said he'd done talking at this point. He really does appear to the eye to be a Green Bay double agent mole. The cock-juggler could be on two salaries.

  • "This is not a fantasy scenario" - blog fadda

What? This is the definition of a fantasy scenario. I think Jeff's hungover from booze and dissapointment. Maybe your next article could be on how were going to pickup Moss and Owens, and then convert Usain Bolt to be our slot guy. Or, we could pickup the worlds strongest man competitors and have them play tackle...Come on Jeff, your better than this.

  • Hey. Many people here including myself want JA gone! O.K. This is a well established fact...question #1: Who do we replace him with? I mean who is out there and available who could fill that slot and actually know how to recognize talent on a football field? Who is out there who is willing to join up even if Luvie and Martz are still here? I'm not sure who may want the job.

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

My vote is for an actual blind squirrel...

    Or Punxatawney Phil.

  • In reply to Bears-4-Ever:

Any flea-bitten dog off the street. Literally. It would be impossible to do any worse than he has.

  • Trading draft picks for players in their prime/past their prime during the middle of the season is a move made by a solid team that's just looking for that last missing piece to get them over the hump THIS YEAR.

Marshall is definitely a band-aid. He's not going to win Chicago enough games to earn them a playoff spot this year. Part of that is because Bears have too many question marks. The other part of that is because the Bears are 3 games behind two teams in their own division.

The Bears are in a tough spot. Their defense is old and their line play is unacceptable. There are too many positions to fill.

Detroit's Core: Stafford, Best/Leshoure, Calvin Johnson, Suh, Fairley, Pettigrew, Titus Young(?), Tulloch(?)

Green Bay's Core: Rodgers, Matthews, Raji, Jennings, Williams, Woodson, Burnett, Sitton, Nelson, Finley(?), Sherrod(?), Bulaga(?)

Chicago's Core: Cutler, Forte, Briggs, Urlacher, Tillman, Peppers, Hester, Chris Harris, Melton, Carimi(?).

I don't know how accurate that is but that's how I would kind of figure it. The players that have been carrying Chicago for the last several years are in their twilight. The bottom line is the Bears have to start building with the Draft. They can't add enough pieces in free agency and trades to compete with Detroit or Green Bay.

Marshall makes sense because he has talent, he is at odds with his current franchise, and his rapport with Cutler. But that is a WIN-NOW maneuver and I don't think the Bears have much of a chance of winning this season or next. An offensive line has to be the unit that takes the longest to replace doesn't it? Better pass protection helps your passing, and it reduces the risk of a Cutler injury.. Brandon Marshall helps your passing game, but doesn't do much for your QB's health.

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

    well put.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I have to disagree only because Marshall is young enough that he's worth a third round pick even if we're rebuilding. Marshall, Forte and Cutler (plus Knox and Bennett) will form the skill positions for our offense and we can build around them. All three (or five) of those guys are young enough that we can rely on them for the next five years (with the possible exception of Forte if his body starts to give out at 30).

All other things being equal, taking Marshall for a 3rd round pick now is as good as taking two WRs in the third round in the next few years to try to find someone as good.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

i was actually just encouraging our friend cheesey to continue to add value and not to devolve into one of the other Neanderthal hord that show up here.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Knox has no skill. He is just not good. Marshall, Bennett, Forte - maybe Hurd? - and our TEs give us some nice targets. But getting good players at every position isn't possible given the devastation done by Angelo's incompetence over a long period.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Knox is a solid option as a #2 reciever, especially on a balanced team. He's got a lot of speed and is still developing - not bad a middle of the draft guy. He's not going to be one of the big 3 from the Superbowl Cardinals, but I'd feel okay lining up Forte, Marshall, Knox, Bennett, and Davis along with some of our other bench guys. That allows us to focus on some other positions with our money picks and FA moves.

  • Ah that game last night was so depressing. I was on a street in Sac with numerous restaraunts and bars on it. i went hopping from place to place hoping the view would improve but it was all the same horrible play. As much as people want to rail against the o-line it was the D that let us down last night. 10-7 and they gave it all away on 2 big plays. Dont have the energy, too depressing.

  • BLOGFADER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can anyone tell me when did "Glitchy" have an epiphany? because that is the only way "Glitchy will admit he has screwed the pooch here.

HE WILL NOT GO AND GET B.M. NO "F"ING WAY...... he is to stupid or dumbass stubborn to let this go...pick one or both work for his sorry ass...this Management runs like W.S. they don't give a fuck what people aka "the fan" thinks we are what they call below whale feces.

WAKE THE FUCK UP ALL!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!! what we have seen for the last four games is what we all knew and maybe did not want to admit it. Including myself...I wanted two guards I GOT SHIT!! ooooohhh wait I got a fucking shit ass first round tackle that they turned into a guard to save face for a first rounder..... WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this O-Line was the Lions D-Bitches ALL NIGHT LONG..Did you not see the same game......WTF!!!!

OMG......the O-line was like the trough us guys pissed into at Soldier Field in the Mens Head. you start at one end and it works it's way to the drain in the middle....

  • me the reports of the Bear's trying to get him then come talk to me..otherwise your just throwing hope at us.

For one, he wouldn't be able to learn this offense

For two, we will not trade for him

For three, I get why you want him.. sure when Cutler gets time, no one is open. Thus, I would be ok with this trade but man, way to give us false hope.

  • In reply to Artoo:

It's like going over to a friend's house and he offers you a Young's Double Chocolate stout, and you say, "Sure!"

Then moments later he comes back with a Coors.

  • Now try this GP & MB..LOL!!!! Only

  • In reply to Artoo:

"The Chicago Bears have an offense that is already very good, however a big play receiver like Marshall who can also serve as a possession receiver would compliment their burners Johnny Knox and Devin Harris. Currently they have Roy Williams in that role, who's performing exactly as he did in Dallas."

Perhaps not the best analyst around.

  • I'm all for BM for a 3rd. We took Conte (and Wolfe and Okwo and and and with 3rd's) so at least we'd get an NFL player for that slot. However, it isn't going to make that much difference going forward. Anyone on here that thinks we have a chance this year is dreaming. Our D got old, Peppers is dinged up (and wasn't playing well before the injury), the rest of the DL is nothing special and the back end is a nightmare. Our OL is worst in the league and our WR's with BM would be bottom half (I'm being charitable). We have the most oblivious OC in the league and apparently a WR coach with no talent. We're fucked. At some point Cutler is going to be out for a few games. Pus Nuts may step down but that just means Ruskell steps up. 2nd verse same as the first.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Our best WR has been out too long. Please get well, Earl.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Another good thing about signing Marshall - other than the fact that Asomugha said he's the hardest receiver to bring down - is that we could cut a useless smurf loose.

  • Even George Takei knows what "Glitchy" is

  • what Bears Management will say to Double Deuce at the end of the year:

  • In reply to lobotobear:

    +1 Team Wilder.

  • Did anyone read the Tribune today? Brad Biggs, who I usually think is spot on, wrote and said in the video with Haugh, that the OL for the most part gave Cutler time to pass last night. WTF was he watching. In 41 attempts (38 + 3 sacks) he may have had time 3-5 times all night. The rest of the attempts he was running for his life.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

LDL & Martzy sent kool-aid to the press box.

  • In reply to lobotobear:

    Good one!

  • last one for the night ..what the Lions D-line said to the Bears O-line:

  • me and my buddy threw this idea around yesterday. He threw out the name and I said a third rounder and maybe throw in a sixth or seventh to seal the deal. we need a go to receiver and cutler is familiar with him already. and miami has no need for him

  • Marshall for a 3. It ain't gonna happen.

  • From the "Statistics are for Losers: Department:

If I had guaranteed before last night's "Mowdown in Mowtown" that Matt Forte would rush for 100+ yards, Cutler would throw for about 240 with a passer rating of 99.6, the Bears would have ZERO turnovers and have a 2 to 1 edge in time of possession, we all would have run to Vegas and bet the mortgage.

Leave it to the Bears to accomplish ALL of the above and STILL lose by double digits.

see that.. problem solved. Nice work Jerr!

  • "The fans in Miami want Marshall gone too."

"Marshall has been dropping TD passes for the Dolphins"

Think about those two statements a bit longer and you'll realize why that's a stupid idea.

  • In reply to number1ninja:

What is... just like mike martz?

  • In reply to number1ninja:

Those two statements are true, but so are these.

Marshall has caught more TD passes from Culter than any of our current WRs

Angelo will waste our 3rd round pick regardless

  • In reply to 4ever85:

One cannot get away from the fact that these two guys averaged like 104 hookups a year. And as you say 4E85, what would Angela do with a third rounder anyway but piss it away anyway.

    * That's double what Hester and Knox provide

    * Neither of those guys can get the high hump balls, stretch the field or shield the ball.

    * Fart on either of those two guys and they just fall over.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Damn, missed ya again. Sorry, don't see how hoping for this past glory is any different than hoping for Martz or Roy to catch on again. It's done.
Although to be fair to the management, I don't see this crop of wide receiver free agents that everybody is talking about. Fuck Ochocinco, and even as a Michigan fan I've got no use for Braylon here. That left Roy and T.O.

  • We are the champions...oh wait, I was talking about my team, my FF team, which like the Pack and Lions, is undefeated.

Angelo might be desperate enough to trade a 3rd for Marshall, but I just don't see MIA giving him up for that, no matter how much their media and fans bash him.

I'd love to see him in a Bears uniform. He's familiar with Cutler, young, and (I think) has more upside than any WR in our current roster. Keep in mind, he got shanked by his wife like a month ago. Oh, and he's on my FF team.

  • a few things more; about what already has been said

In a pre game post I said that some things had to change for us to win:
let's see how the boys did....
forte and cutler raised the grade by superior courage during a night of failure...If everything around you is going in the tank; you remain excellent, and focussed on what you can control...both men performed well beyond win status...
my problem with most everyone else; they gave up after on attempt at the task they were assigned; during the play....
I remember one of our linemen got beat pretty bad in the first game; by merriman & buff. "i wasn't ready for the speed of the pressure" or some such response; came out in the press.
Well these were some of the best at D-line play; and you have to keep pressin on; no matter what happens; if you are not on the ground your legs should be driving your torso somewhere into the play......sorry, but on attempt per play won't get it......I was shocked at what i saw.....i posted that we looked old and slow
i was watching people slow down to a jog/walk after i try at engagement.....this was not acceptible...Grade D
brought up from the tar pits only because of the two gladiators
well that was evident but only in geeting flags.
this has yet to change/ still the same
Oh this went from bad to worse
    4.Missed assignments
See the other posts for the technical critique. nothing more needs to be added
This was meant for Cutlers' passing when I wrote it. And,I am finally happy to say that his hard work is giving him personal dividends.....He needs to have success to gain confidence; for his own abilities to flash forth like comets in the sky.....when this kid is feeling it there has been none better in this organization...we are getting a tough son of a bitch to stand behind; i hope you will realize how lucky we I was shown a photo from a dreaded "I phone"; that had a huge lion eating a raw carcass. Photoshopped into the carcass was the top of cutler's torso
laying face down from the waste up. It looked like his legs were getting eaten.
A detroit fan sent it to work and of course it must have been meant for the only bear fan in the joint. I looked and thought, "nice photoshop"; then said, "actually, Cutler played great. Best player on the field last night." no response
When the lions fan gets back I will make sure to tell him about
Ron Santo..Diabetic>>>loss of legs>>>cutler in town during funeral>>>
the other accuracy stat I wanted to see was if cutler was on how many drops were there....enough has been said about that lack of improvement
    7.National Perception
    We are now pitied
I remember when we were feared

There are things that each player can try to work out inside themselves
results will improve greatly if these things are cleared up
it looks bad now because that is what we are projecting
we are what we appear to be

  • not much in the shopping mood right now
    would be
    if the play was clean
    if the energy was superior
if we had already paid forte

not paying forte is actualy hurting our ability to draw talent
i get mgmnts. talking points about re-negot.
but, when things are this far out of wack
    youbegin to look unreasonable
I would not be wanting to deal with this fool
makes players less inclined to come

how come we don't do better at getting good talent
what the h-ll has this department been doing
you all know this is not my sport
but, we should know the talent level of every center in the "world"
    for the next 5-6 drafts
ect. for every position we have needs for
are these nerdlings crunchin' all this every day down to whether the players shit is sinkin' or floatin'...brown or green....loose or constipated....
is this structure healthy in our hallowed halls?
Ya know Carimi had bad knees, "always has been his issue.

has our passing corp ever had to stand in front of a machine that gave them reps till their hands bled
    well, now is the time

    we were less than perfect
reps is the medicine for these f-ups
reps till they puke or bleed

i was being sarcastic for the most part. Jeff's got him "dropping lots of TDs for the dolphins." Not the strongest endorsement ever. I know Jay like, respects and has good chemistry with him. That's reason enough to bring him on. But J-hole won't do it, cuz we're all set at receiver. Phuck

  • In reply to MikeV in OR:

Look who's throwing the passes though. I haven't seen the drops. Tebow is all the rage now - but have you seen the insane catches Lloyd has been making ?

  • Any Chicagoans want to forget about football for the evening and talk their better halves out for the night. Mentions free pizza in there too ....

  • So hey..anybody really know what happened to Bennett? I mean I saw the wicked shot he took by roman harper (oh yeah..why wasn't he penalized 15 yds for leading with the helmet? Or fined by the league? WTF) BUt they just say chest injury, upper toso etc... no broken ribs...did he get hit in the solar plexus? Trib says he'll be out another 2-3 weeks...not questioning Bennetts toughness...just wish that I knew what's up. Anybody know anything?

  • In reply to RenoBear:

Probably a bruised sternum or broken ribs. Definitely not something to tell the enemy about.

  • Derrick Mason - Jets to Texans. Niners passed over Housh for a guy called Swain. Anyone think T.O. could provide us with a few receptions at the backend of this season? LeBron? The tooth fairy? Anyone? Waddle still looks fit ....

  • I've always said coaches coach and players play. Our coaches can't coach, properly evaluate talent, or both, you tell me. At some point this year, it's time to clean house. This experiment has failed.

  • Guys, the original trade for Marshall was TWO 2nd round picks, not one.

I'm not sure a 3rd would do it now. Also for those blasting management for not getting Cutler and Marshall before... you really think any front office would have traded two #1s, two #2s, a #3, and Orton for that pair plus a #5? Especially when they already were down a #2 for Gaines Adams? No GM is that crazy.

  • In reply to Michael L:

Michael, just stating the obvious but Miami gave up two 2nd round picks for Marshall not 1st rounders. He's probably only worth a 2nd or 3rd now.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I think you should re-read his post.

  • Had we just gone for Marshall and passed on Cutler, what would be our situation now? We'll never know.,0,2174974.story

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Cutty would only bring a 1st round pick unless Shanny is interested.

  • Lovie coming back from Detroit and firing Venable, is like a boor who comes home from a thrashing at work and kicks his dog.

It's the sign of a weak and ineffectual leader. Have a terrible quarter, the stock drops 20% and respond by firing your secretary and hiring one with bigger tits. Don't address the underlying issues that REALLy are affecting success, don't make any big changes, just do something to get some column inches in the Trib and then issue some platitude, like "we are looking at all the options."

Holy shit, do I hate this regime and head coach.

  • In reply to gpldan:

"It's the sign of a weak and ineffectual leader. Have a terrible quarter, the stock drops 20% and respond by firing your secretary and hiring one with bigger tits." You say that like it's a bad thing. Apparently Walters is a true FS (nobody said he was a good FS) and Venable is a hybrid (FS/LB, also nobody said he was a good hybrid).

Not that this made any difference the other night but how did Vandenbosch get away with pushing Cutler down on a false start? The ref was standing right there. Also, the only time I smiled all night was when the announcers were blowing Vandenbosch and said even though he gets knocked down he gets right back up and pursues the play. While they said that, he got knocked down and just laid there. That was funny.

  • The problem with Knox and Hester is that they are suppose to stretch the field and they never do.

I would like JA to go after Brandon Marshall, just as he did A. Boldin a few years back, but I would not overpay for Marshall.

This is the year (and we all knew it was coming) that our D is showing its age.

The problem with our team is discipline. You can not expect to be unpredictable, when a lack of discipline puts you in predictable situations.

Jay was at his best when he was taking a 3 step drop, or when he was lined up in the shotgun formation. The 5 and 7 step drops are detrimental to winning games. Why Martz ignores this fact is indicative as to why he was only signed to a one year extension.

    Pay Matt Forte.

Our run blocking is a strength. Marion the Barbarian was brought in to take the snaps on 3rd/4th and short. Let him.

Nothing cures losing like winning. We need a W this weekend.

  • In reply to Viva:

But the very things you mentioned Viva...

    - not using barber when he's PROVEN to be a very successful sy/rz back
    - Not using knox/hester like they should be... like they actually have been used successfully in the last 2 yrs
    - more running, zero 7 step drops, all short yardage/high % passes, roll-out, shotty, quick hit passes... not using any of the very stuff that works every time we dust it off
    - Not wanting to pay the man that is 50% of our offense
    - zero discipline on D

...all of these things are not player issues - although we all know that besides our older stars, this is a team of mediocre talent across the board – these are major management/coaching issues.

I know we're holding our breath, but we're wasting that very breath by expecting things to be different… until there are major changes above. If nothing is done to majorly shake up the GM/coaching staff at Halas, this team will continue to play totally up and down years depending mostly on injury/game time luck and player overachievement alone. That is just the plain, painful truth.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I agree with everything you said except the zero discipline on D. That statement is true but that falls on the players. Most of these guys are veterans and know better. They are just trying to do too much. With horrible results. The only option they have is to pull players out of the game when they aren't disciplined. The only problem is there aren't any player to replace them.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

And that last clause points back to the front office. But to be fair, most teams fall off a lot once their starters are out of the game.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

yeah, I get that canada, but it comes down to coaching... they are undisciplined because the coaching scheme isn't strong enough and I promise you fucking babich listens to lach and briggs not the other way around.

I've never liked babich, hoke, drake... they're all garbage. I will take keeping them all if we can just get a Gm who is really really good at talent acquisition.

  • Sprained knee ligament for Peppers.

Yeah, THAT'LL help things thius week.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Actually, it might. The rest of the Dline *could* start making plays rather than depending on Pep to make all of them.

  • Why yes Irish jump balls, how could I forget. When curry is getting nailed to the ground, he can throw the ball, and yes Marshall will be there to grab the jump ball. That solves everything.

Listen if cutler Is gonna be successful he needs an oline to protect him. No WR today can save him.

  • Why does martz consistently call for seven step drops, when he knows our oline can't block for shit. I blame martz as much as anyone else. His play selection is totally off from what this offense can do.

  • This has been modus operandi for the Bears for a long time now. Good coaches and coordinators tailor their systems to the personnel they have.

    New thread out there, btw.

  • brandon or any other top receiver won't do any good if jay doesn't get any protection. if this season's going to have any promise the oline must get better and the receivers (forte included) need to get better at seeing their QB in trouble and helping him out. jay flipped the ball to matt twice and he made no real effort to come back for it.

I've read that, Brandon Lloyd, Brandon Marshall, and Reggie Wayne are available. I think we should try to get two of them. They would probably go for late round picks (4th or later) and they are playmakers. It's great value. That way they've bolstered the wide receiving core and they can spend the 1st-3rd round picks on offensive and defensive lineman. We can give them Roy Williams as an add on. That becomes a great group overnight.... Dane in the slot, Johnny Knox as your 4th, and 2 of those three, not bad right. Bonus, Hester can just return punts and kickoffs.
