Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Bucs in London Game Thread

Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Bucs in London Game Thread

The above photo is from Marty Booker's three touchdown performance against the Tampa Bay Bucs on November 18th 2001.  It was the finest single game performance by a Bears wide receiver in my lifetime.  (It was also a terrific performance by Jim Miller.)  The game is more notoriously known around here as the afternoon where Dick Jauron decided to take four knees on the Bears final possession, giving Marty Gramatica a chance to tie the game for the Bucs on a long field goal.  But he's a Gramatica and he missed.  A Bears classic.

  • The line play last week, coupled with Cutler's comfort in the pocket and his ability to keep his eyes downfield leads me to believe that if Martz can remain sane for the next 10 weeks, we could be the team nobody wants to see in the playoffs. Bold statement, I know, but though Minnesota is horrible on offense their D-Line is still formidable, and our guys handled them solidly. I expect good things today, and think it will be the the beginning of great things for this team. The Great Dane is playing well in the slot, our D has it's swagger back, and the Hester factor is in full effect. I've seen this before, and it leads to the Super Bowl. BEAR DOWN.

I don't post as often as I used to, but I read you guys everyday and I want to send a special thanks out to the regulars that keep this site what it is, the best blog for Bears fans that know what the F they're talking about. Thanks to GP, 85, Irish, MB, Murph, Fresno, Al, Doc and the rest of you bloody savages. Much respect.

    Aw shucks ......

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

    Ahhhhh Jeeeez thanks Matty!

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

I dare say the best Bears community on all the interwebz

  • Thanks Matty. Post more.

One thing we haven't talked about... how The Diabeetees will effect cutty since this is basically a night game for him... on a different schedule. What's the uk equivalent of a snickers? Irish?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I don't know, a Wonka bar? Da Cutler will be fine so long as the Bears can block up front for a couple seconds.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    It's Snickers mang.

They used to be called Marathon bars in GB & Ireland but changed the name to Snickers in 1990 and everybody was like WTF?

On the nostalgic confectionery front, a moment's silence in memory of the passing of the Texan bar. Inexplicably erased from existence back in the eighties, when Artoo's brothers and sisters were being fired onto his daddy's gym sock ... and the NFL was still playing full contact football.

    "A Man's gotta chew what a Man's gotta chew"

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

weve had this discussion before... as far as American candybars go... the king of kings is the Bart Simpson hocked butterfinger... by a longshot. Followed by twix and kitkat .

I'd still put the English/south African bars against anyone... in the following order:

    Peppermint crisp (old formula)
Smarties (sorry but the sa chocolate is sooo much better than the weird tasting English version)
Zoo biscuits (not a candy bar, but could be with that sugar content)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Bluebonnet 'boss' Spearman and his freind ,Charlie Postelwaite, ordered this before they tore up the town with dead-eye precision
"My freind and me got a hankerin 'for Switzerland chocolate and a good smoke."

I heard a quote from Chris Williams this week:
" Man's got a right to protect his property and his 'quarterbacks' life
and we ain't lettin' no, Tampa----- Buccaneer
    take either

  • In reply to huntinbare:

I think Jay may have some time today, and that's bad news for the Bucs.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Flakey's. My fave. SA Biltong takes top dog prize though.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I hear you can still get a Mars Bar in England. I did not spot them in Ireland. Man I loved that candy bar.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

cutler "goes off" on a record breaking performance that shocks the whole world

  • Paging Henry Melton, Henry Melton to football ASAP. The kid has disappeared after week 1 against the Falcons. All that talk about his celebration dance and then nothing to celebrate. Let's see him get it going again today in the UK. Wouldn't mind seeing Pizza Paea have another good game. Stopping the run (both Graham and Freeman) today is going to be paramount to success on defense. The Bears can't afford to have the safeties bite on the play-action pass with no pass rush. Do we know who's starting yet?

  • In reply to Shady:

Chris Harris and White Boy. Their Center is out and McCoy is unlikely to play although he was practicing, apparently the same applies to Earl Bennett.

Can't wait for the game, should be a good one. The Bucs don't appear to be a big points-scoring team so hopefully if all three phases don't revert to awfulness we come away with the W. Should be more like a home game for us - there should be a lot more Bears fans there than Bucs, and with 85,000 in the house it hsouldn't be too quiet. There were 35,000 at the NFL rally in Trafalgar square the other day!

Here's to Urlacher spying some Freeman and making a pick. Hopefully DJ gets a pick and Tillman does his Wing Chun Jeet Kune Do strip. Muscles to do his thing at tackle and the O-Line not to shit the bed. Forte, Barber and Davis for an offensive TD each and hopefully Devin shows the London crowd how ridiculous he is.

    Go Bears.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

So Chris Harris goes from inactive to starting again? Wow. I'm not sure what to expect from him today.

  • By the way, BF3 or MW3? Just curious.

  • In reply to Shady:

I haven't been impressed with black ops at all... kinda blows actually. I preordered bf3... did it come already? Looked bad ass in the game-play vids. You hear that waffle... you can run but you can't hide boaha.

Btw, I think the head to head play on mw2 is actually better than 3 shady. Better weapon set. Yeah, I sound like a geek... and I'm OK with that.

Hey corm, fucking rough loss last night maing... I watched the first half. Maybe in the next two years we can pilfer a few olinemen and that MLB (#44) from them as a consolation.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The vehicles in Battlefield 3 are going to be ridiculous, like the windy city flyer. I never really played multi on MW2 mostly because the campaign was that good. In Pripyat I would take out the entire convoy including the helis before moving on to the Ferris Wheel. BFBC2 probably has the best multi around but the campaign is pretty weak. The Medal of Honor campaign was solid though the multiplayer just encouraged too much camping.

  • In reply to Shady:

Apparently everything you see is destructible in BF3?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That was brutal MB, especially for a team that is known for not beating itself. They gave up a safety, a blocked FG, a blocked punt for a TD, a two point conversion, and a Hail Mary on the last play.
I like the Badgers coach, but why call two timeouts when they have the ball and only 40 seconds left in the game? Just take the game to overtime when Bucky has the momentum. Yes, I was yelling at the TV when they called the timeouts.

  • ...oh, and bears by a Td and a fg.

  • Noooooo! For gods sake please don't let this blog detonate into some video game fan boy forum. I think I still have my Dreamcast system somewhere in the garage which is still too close to the house for my comfort.

  • haha relax Sac's #1, we'll strictly keep it to football religion and politics.

  • In reply to Shady:

Diapers and Politicians should be changed often
    Both for the same reason

  • Chill Sac. Boys and their toys mang. Still keepin it real with my chipped PS2. Games for $2. Just upgraded my Madden 08 to Madden 11. And yes, I drafted A-Rodge in franchise mode. He's a Bear now. Brandon Jacobs and Tolbert in the backfield. That's what's up.

  • I never got past Pong! (hangin head in shame)

  • +10,000,000 Sac

  • The game may feel like a bit of an exhibition to the players because of the location, although the outcome certainly counts for quite a bit. The Bears need to start fast with an attitude of urgency, grab the Bucs by the (cannon) balls early and come out of England with a victory.

  • Ugh. It's only 10:30a and I'm already tired of the Tebow commentary.

  • In reply to Shady:

    never mind
    it is sunday morning
and in this day and age sunday is about God
    and man
    and ball

  • Bears win -
Bring me my bow of burning orange and blue
Bring me my touchdowns of desire...
In England's green and pleasant land -

As Steve Coogan would say - "Gentlemen to bed... we rise at daybreak...or nine-thirty for ten...When's the battle?" (Rob Broyden) "At noon sire"

    The Trip is hilarious.

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

    the bucs will say
    "What a long strange trip
    it's been
    a pain"

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

Never knew William Blake was a Bear fan. Awesome.

Must be a way to combine that with Bear Down. A Hubert Parry-Al Hoffman production, if you will. Maybe Hughes can work on that in his spare time.

  • Hey Doc, I was laughing my ass off.

    Game day fellas. See ya

  • Any conversation about candybars must stop and end with the one, the only, the Devin Hester of candybars.....because it's the G.O.A.T.......TOBLERONE!!!!! It's so awesome because they grind up a whole angel in every batch. Seriously, nothing tastes better than ground up angel along with Swiss Milk Chocolate with Honey and Almond Nougat.

  • Anybody have a stream? definitely don't want to watch the lions and falcons circle jerk

  • In reply to TaylorChristmas:

  • Save the queen goddamit and the girl that sang the English anthem!! LET'S GO!!

Hitman, Office Ass, Paella, Oh Henry, Prangles Dangle, Starsky, Matty, and Skunk need to do their thang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to Crown:

I thought it was awesome that they had two people up there that can actually *sing*.

  • Keep running the ball Martz!

  • Is it just me or is Matt looking like the best back in the NFL this season? Matt Forte, you too, are ridiculous.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Forte's patience is a wonder to behold.

  • Did you see that TB defender take out his own man? ahaha

  • In reply to Shady:

I think it was a DT taking out a corner hehe

  • Bugger off, you wankers.

  • Spencer with a great pull block and Roy Williams with great blocking down field on Forte's TD run!!!

  • Weems ran one back 104 yards against the Lions and had it called back for a crack-back.

  • Earnest is hurt? Merry Christmas.

  • Graham injured. Huge loss for the Bucs, Peppers gets to tee off on Freeman.

  • klutz with the finishing touch
    whatta' motor
that's what the bears saw in the last pre-season game
    'cept he was HITTIN' US

  • MARION really? really?

  • Chris Conte your table is ready.

THat should have been playaction out of the endzone though.

  • Conte?! Really? HUGE play.

Safety? Really? Throw to Forte not Barber. Short yardage Barber not Forte. We know this!

  • Fuckin A

  • I knew this would be a crazy game.

  • Take a safety over their TD any day of the week though ....

  • All you Chrits Conte haters that were calling him a waste, please step forward!

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    Hear here, gang.

  • Come on Forte, cant get it out of the endzone? Thats why he's not getting the big money yet! (tongue in cheek)

  • Harris looks like ass this game. Poor angles!

  • Discipline! Discipline Okoye!

  • In reply to Shady:

What is this like 5 flags in a row? Wow.

  • 2nd most penalised team in the nfl ... white running back. We have to win this.

  • Come on, how you line up in neutral zone? I can never understand that one!

  • How does Harris not pick that? Izzy going to work right now.

  • the rugby fans in the stadium are lovin' this

  • Wow Cutler, lucky that wasn't a pick 6 - you feelin' OK bro?

    aPod looking solid as usual.

  • Bears not really able to put together a balanced attack. Only 20 yards in the air so far. That ain't gonna play out too well.

  • Atlanta's beating the lyens 10-3.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    Go dirty Birds and Bi-Queens!

  • It's gonna be a long day for Freeman with no run game.

  • Watching a crappy streaming site. Hard to get into the flow. So far it's Forte and the D.

  • FU Goodipshit! you ass-clown!

  • BARBARIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Barber short yardage, we know this!

  • the texan's strike oil

  • Did Jay just call an audible?

  • In reply to Shady:

    Shady....I wish

  • We need another score boys. Time for the play action.

  • Ronde Barber is still a hell of a player

  • Wow Roy..sheite I dropped it..Williams TD

  • Thought for sure Roy W was gonna drop that one. PHEWWWWWWW

  • Nice shot of a dildo with headphones....aka Goodipshit!

  • Your Boy Roy! Ugly but it still counts haha! Nice job.

  • In reply to Shady:

Every catch is a fucking adventure!

  • Maybe Williams and Cutler will develop some chemistry. Loved that one!

  • texan's strike oil again

if the texan's do this one more time it is really gonna put the hurd on 'em
and that would be a trifecta for the cowboy trio

  • Looks like Martz has found a nice balance, an Equilibrium.

  • In reply to Shady:

Shady he's using a wigi board in the booth...and afraid that Cutty will come up to the booth and turn his arse in a pinata with a hickory stick

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Now THAT'S leadership, someone had to straighten out Martz.

  • so Cocaine Irving and FUCK STICK Sapp...said that the jet lag would beat the sheite out of the Bears...Hey ass-clowns on three letter Network nice call

  • In reply to lobotobear:

Jet Lag? What is it - a five hour flight?

  • Anybody else wonder if Kenny Albert likes to wear womens underwear and get freaky?

  • How the hell could he just let that punt go by? Its right in front of him, knock it out of bounds!!!!

  • 5 receivers and growing nice spread Cutty!!!

  • Hester with crossing routes? a nice development!

  • The line is really blocking well, looks like they have a lot of confidence out there.

  • that sprint boot right throw to knox was incredible

  • A bootleg!!!???...holy sheite...who is calling the game?

  • what happened to max protection
    that was drive killing

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Hunt.....I think we ran out of gas....

  • Ok is this the third week in a row with offensive play calling actually utilizing the players' actual skills? When will Martz crack and call an entire game of 7+ step drops - my over/under is week 10.

  • In reply to christianh:

    sssstttttoooopppp iiiitttt! tee hee hee

  • Bears just gonna sit in nickel the rest of the way

  • In reply to gpldan:

and apparently blitz dj moore every play

  • In reply to gpldan:

It's painfully obvious that he's blitzing as well.

  • conte continues to show good form when tackling

  • Detroit down at the half, but we've seen this story before.

  • now let's just stay with our game plan...damn it..

    BEAR DOWN!!!

  • i went to a chisox blowout that was 14-5 once...

  • In reply to gpldan:

I was at a Cubs/Houston game where the Cubs scored 22 runs. About half of them were against that hot dog Juaquin Andujar. 2nd best Cubs game I was ever at.

  • Why don't teams just run the two-minute drill against us every drive? It always works against us.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

    Atlanta winning 17-6.

  • Yo, half time! 14-5

Couldn't post as much as I'm watching like 3 games besides the Bears games.

Our running game with Forte and Barber looks solid.

Roy being Roy = dropping 1st downs then catching TDs.
Hester, Sanzen and Knox have looked ok.

Our D is looking really good. Is it me, or does Peppers look to be right next to Freeman on every pass? I'm still mystified why our corners don't jam. Conte made a GREAT play, while Harris missed an easy int.

All in all, solid running game, D, and SP.

    Good Bear Ball.

    Bear DOWN.

  • Looking back at that TD grab by Roy makes me think about the continuation rule. That play seemed similar to the one called back on Calvin Johnson week 1 last season.

  • In reply to Shady:

Roy had the TD confirmed before he put the ball down. It was similar to the Burleson TD last week against the 49ers.

  • In reply to Shady:

they have nothing to do with each other mang. Roy caught the ball at the 14 and ran it in. Johnson caught a jump ball and came down with the ball then lost it.

  • Has Paea been sighted?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Flatbread platooning with Melton Cheese in the quesadilla package

  • In reply to gpldan:

  • In reply to gpldan:

top that with julius 'jalapeno' peppers salsa

  • Doth mine eyes deceive me?

Did we just play a half of football WITHOUT a Lovie timeout?

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    or a "f" ing challenge flag...hahahahahahahaha

  • In reply to lobotobear:

There was a challenge. And it was a decent one.

  • Hows that Tebow thing going?

Bradshaw is slurring like Foster Brooks at the Friars club

  • In reply to gpldan:

Fantasy wise, he's only got me 4points while Matt Ryan already has 12.

Oh, and Tebow is losing to, for those who actually care about the Broncos. He looks gutsy though, I'll give him that.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I'm caring a lot, I need Denver bigtime. Tebow is three and out central. They're as bad as Miami.

  • I still can't believe Forte gave up a safety. Just for that, I franchise him next year.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

i dont understand why he didnt just chuck it downfield out of bounds. illegal man downfield is better than 2

  • also, is it me, or are the Bears blitzing a lot more these last two weeks?

  • Short yardage Barber is gravy.

  • In reply to Shady:

...and once again it took Martz 7 weeks to figure out what every commentator on this blog knew immediately..

  • Barbarian! looked like a stroll in the park

  • the texan's strike oil again for chicago

  • Amazing what this offense looks like when the guys up front win the individual battles.

  • In reply to Shady:

bingo! But its always that way

  • "Turn out the liiiiights the party's overrrr ... they say that aaallllll good things must end ....."

  • AND THAT is why I wanted to see a little more Roy this week. Never thought I'd like to see him do that 1st down bs.

    Barber, to the house!

FINALLY, we're seeing some of the Oline in the Preseason when we got all excited.

  • Nice vision by the Barbarian. Great cutback. You could see those DB's didn't want to take him on from the front.

  • nice juke on that return lance

  • Beautiful seeing the Glazers in their box. Man U, the Bucs ... hey boys ... can ye kiss MY ass ...

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Agreed 100%. I loved seeing them squirming in their box.

  • Briggsy nice runback bro! haha

  • Rookin good baby. Dare I hope for a playoff push by my Bears?

  • how did we lose 49 yards on the penalty?

  • In reply to gpldan:

10 yards from where the penalty occurred.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Thanks - this SkyTV stream leaves a bit to be desired...

  • Welcome to my world. Kevin Cadle can suck a bag of dicks.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

It sounds like Anderson Cooper is commentating.

  • Well on the actual Sky channel, they cut to Cadle in the studio during breaks. The man is literally a bag of dicks. Former basketball coach or something in the UK.

  • Can somebody explain why they're at the 50 and not the 1?!

  • see above.

  • block in the back

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

did anyone see who did it?

I thought I saw someone block Winslow, but it didn't look like much.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    On a lineman

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    By Jennings.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    David and Goliath kinda thing.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    By Tim Jennings

  • where is the max protection

  • In reply to huntinbare:

    Martz can't help himself.

  • Does Arian Foster think he's Matt Forte or something? Monster game for him.

  • Matty Ice went down with what looked like a bad knee injury...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Figures, had him starting on my FF Bears Blog league.

  • Why would the Bears decline the holding penalty?

  • In reply to Shady:

That didn't make sense to me either.

  • By the way so why are they playing this game in front of a crowd that clearly could care less?

  • is wootin playin'

  • Ha ha, the Brits only cheer when there's a punt or kick off. Oh well, I guess they know football.

  • all day all forte

  • throw that play out martz

  • Mongo

i got fucked by Shanny on Torain. The Tranny loves to fuck ff owners.

  • Great reaction pass to Hester.

  • The reverse NEVER works. Why call it?

  • Fuckin Kenny Albert jinxed Gould......bastard!

  • Nice jinx assholes...

    Gould missing a 40yarder, sheesh.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

That was TA's fault two threads ago. I'm holding him completely responsible. Some guy at the bar said had he made that he would have been #1 all time in percentage.

And ya'll know, Robbie is my man. I'm less happy than I should be after a Bears win, but I think its because the fucking BiQueens screwed me on my perfect week.

  • why put cutler in this type of danger?
protect your future with this team martz

  • Yikes, Robbie.

  • I would have liked to see the Bears make a statement by going for it on 4th down there. It's never a bad thing to stick your foot on your opponents throat and go for the kill.

  • Martz you dicklick, put Kellen and Spaeth back in the sets and cut this shit out

  • Tebow 3/8 24yards. 6 rushes for 48yards.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

    You guys crack me up.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

I'm not backing the Broncos again. If you're shutout by the Dolphins, you're really really bad.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

?????????????? No worries mate. Upon further review, your original picks were upheld due to the fact the offense may not advance a fumble.

  • The Hitman just took out his target on that last play.

  • Cam Newton is really good. Wish he would quit being a jagoff when he scores.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    I hear ya Mongo.

  • These penalties are KILLING US on field position. That's two penalties combined for like eighty yards.

  • Hester has actually made some really bad decisions in the return game this year. I guess you gotta take the bad with the good.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Exactly. Don't try to be making no GOAT head's soup. Let it be.

  • OMG they're interviewing the Bucs cheerleaders.

  • You could have hoped they'd give the interviewer some (inner) lip.

  • matty ice is back.

But Megatron going all megatron. 20-16 Falcons, with Falcons marching down field.

  • Well, it looks like the Bronco's are gonna cost me my picks this week. I think I've gone 3-0 and 2-0-1 once and 2-1 every other week.

  • Way to go Lacher. Time to put this one out of reach. Damn, we just can't seem to put this one away.

  • looks like Urlacher was down

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

I agree, good challenge. Bad angles from the camera, though...

  • Looks like Lovie may actually win a challenge.

  • The stream I'm watching is horrible. The late hit on Adams was really weak. Did #54 fumble or was he down?

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

He was down by contact. Won't be too happy with Cutty putting it up for grabs again falling backwards ....

  • I think this may be a good challenge.

Needless to say if I see Lovie win this challenge, I may pitch a tent.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

  • good challenge Lovie.

    Did I just say that?

  • figure we will lose cause Lovie is always wrong

  • Lovie wins a challenge!

  • Why are we throwing the ball again? FFFUUUUUUUUU

  • Shoulda gone for it on 4th and 1 when Robbie missed that field goal. A score then would have sealed the deal.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    I mean, instead of punt.

  • Jay Jay Jay

  • That was a terrible pass Jay. Terrible.

  • Holy Sheite./..where did this coach come from...!!!!!!!!??????????

  • CUTTY......... WTF............... WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Typical. We win a challenge for the first time since forever and Jay does that.

  • Yea throw your pencil down you dumb Fuck!

  • Please tell me what the Fuck happened to the run game. Martz you fuck!

  • In reply to Vicp71:

    Damn Martz, callin that interception!

  • In reply to Vicp71:

We have 26 pass attempts and 25 runs.....can't get much more balanced than that Vic

  • Would be nice if Webb could block, just a little!

  • There's the TE TD.

  • Damn, we should be well over 30 points by now. Why does Martz get a hard on for his gay ass play calling when we are up by 16. Run the ball and close out the game you pencil dick!

  • WTF is Martz doing ?

  • So....we've been burned all season by big TE's, and in the redzone we put our small white safety on him.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

Our "small white safety" is very rapidly convincing me he is the best safety on the fucking roster. At least Conte knows how to TACKLE someone.

  • great give the ball back...FUCK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Finally a time off the clock!

  • Barber short yardage, failure?

  • We still have a 2 score lead gents. If the Bears lose, they deserve it due to undisciplined play. Discipline wins games.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    yep...+1 trac

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

With you on that one Big D T

  • Our man kellen Davis missed the block on that one yard run attempt. Could Olsen really have blocked better than K Davis? I'm starting to wonder.

  • get ready for the cover-who boys.

They'll march down field, get a FG or TD, but it'll be a slow death.

  • Martzy............step back from the hookah and place it down on the table......WTF

  • What the hell is going on with the D line, they're going against 3rd stringers and not getting it done?!

  • In reply to Shady:

Are they just tired? So dominant in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

  • Can anyone explain to me why we let teams back into the game..instead of stepping on the neck, twisting and letting the air out of the other teams carcass........... FUCK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think Tampa has figured out that we can't cover TEs.

  • That's all on you Martz you dumb fuck. Game in the bag and we're throwing mad shit, they march down on the cover 2 and now we're in a ballgame. Fuck.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

  • Third and a freaking foot? Quarterback sneak might be nice.

  • Our D is tryin their best to lose this game! No pressure, no one in Freemans face!

  • Wrap that fucker up, dont let him reach!

  • How many ways did I say the Bears could lose this game? Oh how shall I count the ways?

  • Defense looking like crap late. Offense can't afford a 3 and out here, need to change field position at the very least.

  • Chargers are now losing.

  • Please the ball and run the clock out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Typical.

  • Tampa scores 2 TD's in 5 minutes......come on!!!!!!

  • cutler needs to step up here and ressurect this offense

  • Red Zone Report -
    Tim Tebow is not
    Cam Newton is not

    Rex Grossman

If Jay Cutler had "megatron" sized receivers would the Bears win it all?

  • Chris Harris blows another one on that coverage

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    Hurry back Major!

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

I would rather see pimp slap than either of those bums.

  • Red Zone Report #2 -

  • run some clock
    stay in bounds

  • Holy cow Daryl Johnston is wearing the worst suit I've seen in my life.

  • British seersucker

  • Is Denver really tied?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Yeah that why i just gave Big D T a Hallelujah brother! Tebow has 167 yds. and 2TD's

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Yeah, it was a freakin crazy last few min.

  • 6 shots from inside the 10 and only 3 pts? Not good.

Defense NEEDS to close this one out. End Freeman. Now.

  • worst playcalling in history...

  • I have come to the conclusion that Martzy is like a 10 year old boy who has found his first boner and can't lay off of it until it goes red and falls off...

  • In reply to lobotobear:

LOL - literally. Thanks for that one Lobo.

  • We have now run 25 plays inside the 10 for a net of -2

  • I do not get Martz at all. 1st and goal and 3 straight passes. Then 3 straight runs. WTF!

  • In reply to Vicp71:

He read your earlier complaints on the blog!

  • In reply to Vicp71:

The same running play, no less...

  • In reply to Vicp71:

They decided to burn up the clock V. I guess they figured it was the lesser or two evils on that last set of downs.

  • Tampa's D is not that good guys. How do you not score a TD with 6 plays inside the 10?

  • If our D can not hold this lead we don't deserve the win.

  • martz's offense does not seem to have great plays for scoring inside the five

  • In reply to huntinbare:

Our blocking sucked! The man isn't playing. We miss Carimi

  • Melton! nice to see ya buddy

  • We need pressure... If Freeman has time. WE R FUCKED.... How about a blitz or two instead of this damn prevent...

  • In reply to underway:

  • RUSH the QB!

  • Why is no one bitching about Marinellis calls?

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Great call on that pick by Nelli Murph.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

That was tongue in cheek stuff Trac.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Good lord. Ugly win at the end.

I'm getting a beer, I don't know about the rest of you.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    I need a nap!!

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    All wins are beautiful winds.

Lovie said something like that, and it was the smartest thing I ever heard from his yap.

  • It's a win. I'll take it. Offense was a mixed bag again and our D saved the day. Hester really needs to make better decisions on returns.

  • Nice win, back over .500 again, time to rest up during the bye for a 2nd half push.

  • Christian Ponder 73 yard pass first play from scrimmage. Go Vikings.

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

    Bah beat me to it!

  • In reply to NY Bears Fan:

And then a nice rollout TD. Kill Green Bay!

  • Phew. That game should not have come down to the last possesion.

  • No TD for ponder actually.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

How the fuck has this post ended up above my other one???

    Fuck you Jimmy!!

    TD for Ponder to Schiancoe.

  • Ponder 73rd TD.

  • Come on Denver, new shoes for the babies, let's go.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Holy Cow Irish, the Bronco's just won. Phew, that was close.

  • Wow. That was a major butt pucker.

  • GO BI-QUEENS GO DIRTY BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Broncos win.

    Browns 6-3 Seahawks

If we don't put 40+ points on the hawks when we play then I will be severely disappointed.

  • Incredible win by Denver. Thank you Matt Prater.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Yep. I was starting to feel bad for recommending the Bronco's over the Fins. I'm 2-0 now, just have to see what the Steeler's do.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I had the Falcons and Broncos. Damn Chargers got me, they couldn't score a point in the second half.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

I hould have listened to you re chargers and Lions BD!

Now I need Carson Palmer to come back from a three TD deficit - why oh why did he not start? Boller = 3 INTS. Jebus.

  • DIRTY BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK YOU PUSSYCAT!!!!!

  • Tebow Wins? Hallelujah Brothers!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    hee hee.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

  • Manchester City Wins
    Chicago City Wins

  • In reply to Jack Lacan:

And France nearly won the Rugby world cup. 1 point!

  • Atl beating Detroit is a great thing.

  • Good to see the traditional Lion collapse setting in around it's usual time.

Shame that they don't have Jon Kitna to announce they'll be winning the division anymore.

  • In reply to DYLbear23:

But for a tipped ball at the end it could have gone to OT - it negated a PI call on ATL.

  • I'm not sure if I should thank Jerry for lighting a fire under Matty by not giving him a new contract or just laugh my ass off at how much money Jerry's gonna have to eventually cough up.

  • Jared Allen is a major douche.

  • Why does Moose Johnson sound like Anderson Cooper?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    cause he's a fucking meathead.

Can someone please god fucking take rodgers out. I don't really want anyone hurt in this game, but to be honest I wouldn't cry if someone did... just for the rest of the season. Maybe a knee like cutty? Mullet? Anyone in purple?

  • Dman yos... missed the whole game driving back from the springs.

So how did we play? Someone give me the 5 bullet summary.

Btw, if detroit AND GB can lose today I will be so fucking fired up. The wheels are a falling in detroit trac.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

We ran the ball really well, which set up play action, which allowed time in the pocket - and we took a lead.

Then Martz had a brain fart, we got away from the run, the Bucs blitzed, we went to 3 wide packages, and suddenly it was the Saints game again.

Luckily. Freeman is not Brees and we held on to win. End of story.

  • In reply to gpldan:

nice. I mean shit. I mean, muck fartz!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    thanks GP

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Wow... excellent summary

  • In reply to MB30SD:

4 interceptions for our D. Williams decided to be a receiver. Forte was ridiculous and broke a hundred by halftime. Martz kept up the pass game when we should have been running out the clock. There was a crazy INT- INT - safety few minutes. Good game.

Fuck Kyle Boller. 1200 yoyos with my name on it not arriving. Bastard.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Irish, you're killing me bro.

  • A7, I'm going to head you off at the pass btw. Please spare us the second coming... it was fucking miami dude.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Blaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!! I likey.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

uh huh... we'll see trac. every week there'll be more and more film on him. I saw some of his lowlights... man that dude is NOT an NFL QB. Great heart, good runner... probably a great kid.

He'll never be cam newton guys. Just doesn't have the skill set.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Just the most accomplished QB in college history MB.

  • wow, raidahs getting crushed

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Boller had three INTs. Palmer will be on soon, but they're three behind now. After Tebow's miracle comeback my bets are going to get stuffed by the Kansas city Queefs.

  • how did the safeties play?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Conte made a good case to stay the FS, with a crossing route over the middle that the wideout caught, Conte stood him up on the 1, then pulled the ball away from him and ran it back. It was a game changer. He also got smoked covering Winslow for a TD, but few FS can match up with Winslow.

Harris looked slow and old, and got torched badly for a TD despite having a 20 yard cushion he let him get away and score.

  • In reply to gpldan:

ouch. Looks like Conte/Pringles... do we know what his injury is... if it's even an injury?

    thanks again gp.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    pringle's injury I mean.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Conte can tackle. Something missing from the safety position for a while on the Bears.

There is nothing that I saw today that should take him out of the starting lineup.

  • God damn Viqueens. How can you leave Greg Jennings completely uncovered?!

  • Carson Palmer going in over 3-pick Boller.

  • wheels about to come off in the dome

  • fucking lovie. Jesus. I swear you have one speach for every single game we've ever played. ever.

CUTTY... dude, call him a metro all you want, but that one fashion session help alot. LOOKIN SHARP!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • gp, I saw the highlight of the winslow td on conte... where he got a spinning back elbow from him. I think he did the best he could. He was there.

  • ponder looking pretty damn good maings. without a doubt an upgrade over Don

Can't believe I'm rooting for the fucking vikings.

  • wowwwwwwwwwwwwww go D

  • Woohooo. 3-0 Baby. Mark me down Jeffe poo.

  • I need about 80 pts from Breesus and Garcon tonight in fantasy.

  • In reply to Shady:

looks like you're going to get 'em baby

  • In reply to Shady:

didn't you have Plax on ur bench?
If u would have started him, you would only need 60 points!

Don't feel bad though. MBPs kicker needs about 50points on MNF to beat me lol

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Yeah, thanks for the PLAX reminder. I went meatball and started Sanzensausage instead.

  • In reply to Shady:

    ur such a homer lol

  • In reply to 4ever85:

if it makes u feel better, I dropped Plax. Don't trust Dirty Sanchez, but maybe he found his guy.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

wish we had found that guy (yay jerry!)

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I cut Burress this week too ....

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Which league are we playing in?
I forgot to backfill some bye weeks in DBB II...getting crushed accordingly.
In DBB Auction, I still have Boldin and the Ravens DST tonight.

  • On the bright side, we won a game where Cutler was very mediocre. Gotta love that. Everyone here is bitching about Martz going pass happy in the 2nd half. The players are half defending Martz saying their LB's were run blitzing. I'll give Martz the benefit of the doubt except for the 3 straight pass plays from the 5. That was stupid. Happy as hell for the win. Conte played well and Harris earned another shot at the bench. He looked like me covering on that TD. Fucker wasn't within 5 yds of the WR. Pathetic. Gotta give Lovie credit for sending the team in on Friday. If you win it looks good.

    Karma's a biatch ain't it? Ain't it bitches?

..speaking of... hey trac and A7 can you please ask tebus to beat the lions next week too? please? Make you a deal, if he beats the lions, I'll start thinking he might be able to be more than a trick play.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah, Tebow came through for me today (FF wise).

I'm gonna have a helluva time debating between Vick going up against a stout Dallas D, or Tebus against the Meows...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

85... I'd take vick main. I really don't want to sound like a tebus hater, because I'm not... but I think he's more about the media creating something to self-feast on, rather than a netwton-like juggernaught.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

yeah MB, I'm leaning that way. 22points, mostly all in the second half, agains MIA is not the same as going up against the Lion's D line.

I'm looking forward though to Suh and gang trying to tackle Tebow. That dude does NOT slide.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

that's kinda my point... dude's not going to make it long doing that shit in the NFL... unless he wants to move over to his natural postion at TE.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The front four of Detroit is probably going to take him apart limb by limb and gnaw on the bones. I don't see him doing much at all against Detroit. He can't exploit their secondary.
He may get some short stuff against their linebackers. If by some miracle (hah!), he makes it into the second tier, he'd be dangerous, but scrambling against their tackles and ends is a death wish.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I was reading the comments on the page. WOW. What a bunch of knuckle-dragging morons. I thought the comments on ESPN were stupid. The Yahoo comments make the ESPN posters look like Rhodes scholars.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

yeah murph... rough. it's kinda like a gas station in barstow, you get all types... a lot of whom aren't exactly the cream of the crop.

  • ain't life a bitch:

  • It's a good thing Peyton Manning isn't playing this year. Even with him the Colt's wouldn't be very good.

  • Oh c'mon don't sit Brees guys! This is when I need a guy like Belicheat to pour gasoline on the fire. Oh we're up 41? Let's run play-action until Brady throws for 6 TDs and 500+ yards.

  • In reply to Shady:

ha ha...the same thing happend with Murray. He just ran and was so tired of running for 250 yds, that he just fell down out of exhaustion, and they just sat his ass.

  • 61 POINTS?!

R u f'en kidding me? I though I might have left my madden on by accident.

The Colts do know that this ain't college and that style points don't count for the Suck4-Luck sweepstakes, right?

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    4E85....slaughter rule please......ouch............long fucking flight home....damn

  • In reply to lobotobear:

man, watching this is like watching a colostomy...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    You a nurse '85?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I am, and in my opinion it looked more like an unwanted colonoscopy.

  • In reply to ben in norcal:

good for you ben. I never got the line of thought above - don't doctors need you guys like crazy? Nurses are huge man, thanks for what you do.

  • just watched an ameriprise commercial with Tommy Lee Jones. Man, he looks like shit.

  • In reply to lobotobear:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

haha I saw that the other day and thought the same thing.

  • Jeeeeesus H:

Oh, and wtf is up with dudes wearing jerseys from other teams to a game with two other teams not represented on your jersey? And to top it off, the dude had a fucking colts jersey.... yes, the colts. Bet he's stoked he got on TV wearing that tonight.

    Bloody ponce.

and I still have NO idea what to make of those dude in (gay?) bear suits. And that was a song? Jesus H.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

what kind of a ponce are you?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

And the guys that wear more than one team's merchandise. "I love the NFL, I'm just not team-specific."
    Fuck off.

  • Ruh Roh:

  • haven't read any of the comments yet...
    had a busy Sunday...
missed the whole 1st quarter, but...
all I gta say is I LOVE TYLER CLUTTS!!!
    that is all....

  • It's been bloody good reading all the posts from today.

El Jefe, good prognostication about today's game, although I don't know how you overlooked the possibility of the Bears giving up a safety.

Dare I say it? Is Forte showing glimpses of Walter Payton? Last week he ran off left tackle, stiff-armed a guy to the ground, then threw a forearm into a DB instead of running out of bounds. Today, after a nice 5-6 yard run, he stuck the ball forward about a yard like Walter used to do. Forte has to be an MVP candidate right now.

Doc, if you can pull it off and get a babysitter, take your lovely wife to the Warren Haynes Band show at Showbox Market on Tuesday. It's General Admission, and most of their venues are kick ass so you can probably get great seats.

Huntin, I'd love to go to Wanee, but it's at my busiest time of year. Here's some cool videos from Wanee 2010. A friend of mine recorded these. Mule playing Floyd. One of these Days, Fearless.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Good god corm... while an incredibly nice and gentlemanly thought, doc's lovely wife is almost ready to birth our new DBB twins. He's only got just over a month till the bliss and utopia of a newborn(s) arrive.

Ahhhh doc, new life is so so precious... isn't it? You're a lucky maing.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Holy crap, that came up fast. I didn't know the due date was so close. Time flies.

  • Breaking news from the AP:
"Josh Freeman throws two TD passes"
    "Jay Cutler throws two interceptions"

    What's missing?

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    Let's see. Cutler's whining? Freeman's four picks?

That was a good win all round. No complaints - job done - we beat a team that beat the Saints last week and they just put up Madden points on the Dolts. Man, we look like a team that could build and build on this in weeks to come (barring injuries). When Bennett and Carimi get back we could be ready to really rock n roll.

One slight eyebrow-raiser ... DJ Moore ... Bears do not 'walk off' the field after making an interception. Not very Payton-esque.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Sorry Irish, but you do run out of bounds or take a knee after an INT when it seals the game -- and the only thing that can beat you is fumbling the ball.

DJ Moore shouldn't have even returned that INT at all, but I don't begrudge him at least trying to see if he could get a cheap pick 6. As soon as it was clear he couldn't, he absolutely did the 100% correct thing and ran out of bounds and avoided all contact.

  • In reply to Michael L:

Yeah, I was screaming at the screen for him to just lay the hell down.
But again, all DJ does is make big plays. He may be a smurf, but he's Turnover Smurf.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

wasn't that an acutal smurf? Turnover Smurf? He was smurfett's boyfriend wasn't he?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • At least we are better than the skins, iggles, queens, atlanta, zona, seattle, rams, and bucs. I know this is a horrible way to ease a conscience but in this case, it happens to be true. Oh and Detroit, we see you.

By the way Jeff, I relent. We own the tie breakers against the Birds and Bucs so far and the Bears season is not over by a long shot. We are in the thick of things boys, te game is afoot.

  • Is the season over yet?
Wait, you mean we're now only one game back of Detroit and China Doll needs an MRI?

Detroit is Detroit - I do recall saying a half dozen times that they are thin at skill positions, like say, running back, and a couple of injuries would cause them to fall apart. Well, it turns out it only took one.
Jahvid Best has no one behind him. No. One.

And if Stafford is out for two or three weeks, they will very quickly be 6-6.

Tebow made me look like a fantasy football genius in the 4th quarter yesterday. I was cursing my stupidity in starting him until he rocketed from 6 pts in Yahoo standard format to 27 pts in a matter of minutes.
    Way to go, Timmay.

In regards to the Bears game, I missed the first quarter due to familial obligations (took my daughter to a museum) but this game didn't look close until Cutty's second pick. That throw was Bad Jay. Bad Jay - please go back in your box now.
Forte - you are simply terrific. Once we get Carimi back and Louis is moved back inside, I dare say that we will have a dominant run-blocking line to the right. Louis has proved me wrong and I'm glad Tice worked him in at RG early in the season.

And Conte is starting to look like a real live starting FS. Tackles well, made some good plays in coverage to break up passes. And he's not slow as shit like Arch Deluxe was.

Clutts - I heart you, man. Having a real FB on the roster, and seeing us run out of offset I formation, what a thing of beauty.

oh, and to MBP's point... looks at least like a high ankle sprain to me... the way he limped off it didn't look like a knee. But he IS the china doll so he'll prolly be out at least a few weeks... as in maybe 3-4. Tee hee.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    whoops, this might help:

    (watch the vid)

  • dabearsblog I'm not much for Power Rankings but how does @SI_PeterKing leave the Bears out of top 15 when they've beaten his 7th and 8th ranked teams.

this has been discussed ad nauseum here Jeff. the answer is simple...

because Peter King is a fat, clueless dbag who, along with his best buddy don banks, are known bears haters. They both suck balls. I don't have a twitter account, so please let him know that all of us on this blog (if I may) feel that way about him.

  • In reply to MB30SD:
