Seeking Chicago in New York City: My Opening Day Experience

Seeking Chicago in New York City: My Opening Day Experience

The satellites didn't work. After sitting at Josie Woods for the better part of three hours, drinking bar coffee and eating bagels from a large plastic bag, the big TV in the corner was now frozen on a blindingly yellow image of bald Terry Bradshaw in a bad suit.  And no matter how many times we tried to reboot the system, nothing could be done.

12:00.  12:02.  Slammed a Bud Light draft.  12:15.  12:35.  Slammed another.

As the Bears regulars began to file into our underground club house, I warned them not to take their seats as we may need to move on down the road.  I turned to my buddy Josh, a Bills fan, and a co-executive decision was made.  We left.

On the walk up Waverly to Broadway I was mumbling angrily to myself like a hobo in need of a fix.  I kicked a mailbox for no other reason than it was there.  We had to leave the place I’ve watched football for eleven years and go to St. Mark’s Ale House.

St. Mark's Ale House sucks.  I can't state that clearly enough.  My friends will tell you that one of my phobias is sitting at tables in bars.  I don’t like sitting at tables in bars.  It makes me feel suburbanized, like I’m one step away from having a crying baby-filled stroller being rocked beside me.  At St. Mark’s Ale House, everybody sits at tables.  I don’t get it.  How can you cheer from your seat?  How can you watch your favorite club without nervously pacing the length of a room?

But St. Mark’s Ale House is a Bears bar in the sense that multiple Bears fans go there.  So we went there.  And the fella who owns that joint, even at 12:50, was oblivious to fact that his satellites were down.  (He had most of the TVs on the 9/11 ceremony.  Yay!  Poor me, another pint! )  As the kickoff time was rapidly approaching, my buddy Brian began calling every bar with a television set in the neighborhood.

“Do you have the Bears game working?  Can you check?  You have to check!  Check!”

No one did.  Then he called Kelly’s on Avenue A.  Bills bar.  (Josh had found Valhalla.)  Also a Cubs bar.  Hope.

They had it.  (They checked it per Brian’s request.)  They really had it.  We didn’t believe them but off we were, snagging a cab at the corner of St. Mark’s and 2nd Avenue like a cavalry on the march to the battle field.  I fulfilled a lifetime dream by telling the cab driver to “step on it”.  He stepped on it.  We arrived.

Kelly’s does not suck.  It’s a cool little joint in a now-trendy neighborhood that managed to put 100+ Bills fans into a space that couldn’t have a legal capacity of more than 25.  The Bears game was on a television in the far corner, above the doorway leading to the staircase leading to the toilets.  (Side note: Periodically through the game, the lights did not work in the men’s room.  I had to use my cell phone to direct my piss.)  In our thin lane to the television, we squeezed 13 people.  At the rear of our lane was a bed.  Not a padded seat.  A bed.

It was also a thousand degrees.  We didn’t drink out buckets of Labatt tallboys because we loved beer.  We drank our buckets to cool off.  I drank too many of them.  And when the adrenaline of the ballgame wore off, I felt it.  (My pre-6:00 pm bedtime can attest.)

All for football.  All for the Chicago Bears.  An annoyance that plagued DirecTV bars around the country turned into a classic New York afternoon and created a memory sure to last.  It could have been the worst opening day of my life.  It became the best.

30-12 helped.  Thank you, Brian.  Thank you, Kelly's.  Thank you New York City.  Thank you, Chicago Bears.

  • The ladies bathroom was kind of eerie. It was dark and had a ~ 5 foot wide mirror on the wall that was completely shattered. It was nice of the Bills fans to allow us to use one of their tvs.

  • Nice story.

I would still be a better GM than Jerry fucking Angelo.

Erik, I keed because I love. I was just messing with you man. I don't pick on you, I mess around with you because I like you. (not in a gay way)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Oh, and those guys are fags (not that there's anything wrong with that)

  • Let me be first to suggest a comma in a sentence, viz. "Poor me, another pint!" That way is morphs from a misspelling into a neat bit of work play...

    Like this article, Jeff.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Gah! Silly site. And let me be the first to correct my post. That would be "it morphs..."

  • In reply to SC Dave:

And "word play". I quit now.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

No joke. I love this idea and I did it.

  • Congratulations Peter King, I just gained back a teensy little bit of respect for you. Thank you for admitting your insolence. Hopefully it's not just a little CYA.

"11. Don't sleep on the Bears. As I have, of course. The Bills and Texans were dominant Sunday, but Chicago's foe, Atlanta, makes its performance -- it was 30-6 after three quarters, ended 30-12, and could have been worse -- so impressive. The Falcons got 386 yards, but the swarming Bear defense, led by Brian Urlacher, pestered Matt Ryan all day. And though Jay Cutler got hit too much and was sacked five times, he had enough time to throw for 312 yards and get the Bears in position to score on five of their first seven possessions. "As long as I've been here, the pressure's been on the offensive line,'' said Roberto Garza. "We know that. We accept it. It's up to us to come through and keep Jay clean. We're ready for that challenge.''

more mea culpa... we went from 11 to 4: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/peter_king/09/11/week.1/2.html

  • In reply to MB30SD:

This blog is like a permanent advert for PK. Really, it's free advertising for him. We should treat his 'articles' like we should technically treat packer trolls. PK, begone.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

+ a shitload, Irish!! Fuck that PuKe in the face.

  • More PK...

Noted New Orleans defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has to be polishing up his drawing board this morning, figuring out what to draw on it. In the Saints' last two games, the defense has been awful. Against one struggling offensive team (Seattle, in the playoffs last year) and one superior one (Green Bay, on Thursday), here's how the Saints' defense fared in eight quarters combined:

    Defensive points allowed: 76
    Touchdowns allowed: 10
    QB line: 49-of-70 (.700), 7 TD, 1 Int., 122.6 rating
    Yards allowed: 814

  • I still dont understand by what miracle it had a Bears feed when no one else in town (or across the country apparently) did, but man was Kelly's a lifesaver.

Thanks again to Kelly's and its staff. They absolutely did not have to accommodate us, but they did. We were the only non-Bills tv in the place.

  • In reply to Reverenddave:

    Lucky it wasn't a Raven's dive.

  • So, Kahlil Bell siting.. Didn't get too much going, but that fucker runs like a champ. It's refreshing to see him fight for the extra yard/s. Very glad we kept him and dropped Taylor.

Truthfully, for Barber's sake, I hope we don't see anymore of him, though.

Roy's a turd, but a turd who catches the balls thrown his way. Happy (for now) that he's here... Though, what's up with his injury? Any word?

The tackles look way over-matched at times, but I thought it was going to be a lot worse.

APod can boot that fucker! And thankfully, him and Robbie are getting their shit together on the FGs.

In his limited action, Reed looks good... Does he have a fucking Ditka mustache? Looks like the kind of guy I'd be drinking beers next to watching the Bears...

I am very glad that Spaeth can catch the ball. I thought that maybe it was only in my Madden 12 season (where he racks up 100 yds/game), but that TD catch, while wide fucking open, just made me rest a bit easier. Who's a good boy!??!

Oh, and JC... Snickers bars are working their magic. That fucking laser is incredible.

Nice to not have to read the doom and gloom after week 1.

    BREES DEAD,

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

Wow, I just spelled siting REAL wrong. I knew it looked odd.

    sighting*

MB - how did the PS3 work out? I was lucky enough to have it playing on Fox, but I got the DirecTV streaming for $50 just in case... However, the better the Bears do, the more likely they get played on TV here in Slowmaha.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Apod ! I love it !!

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

One of my favorite websites, actually.

  • Excellent story, especially liked the bit about the fear of "having a crying baby-filled stroller being rocked beside me". So true!

  • In reply to Bender McLugh:

Bend her over in the Loo? Sounds like one of Artoo's stories. (JK).

  • In reply to gpldan:

    I was thinking Crown.

  • In reply to Bender McLugh:

Give me a baby in a stroller to sit beside over some fat loudmouth any day of the week.

  • I made a joke in the gameday thread, about Julius Jones head being on the swwiiiiiivel.

But it's true. Gucci Mang played FS in the 2nd half, most of the way, and he came up and Jones heard those footsteps and dropped the ball.

That marked the first time I can remember in a long time that a Bear opponent got alligator arms from a Bears safety. In fairness to Daniael Manning, I did see Manning punish a couple times, but I never saw fear like Jones had that he was about to get decapitated.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Oh and I think Old Sauce pulled Pringles out in the 2nd, because Pringles keeps dropping his head. It's gonna get his neck broken, a spearing call, or - most commonly - missed tackles because his eyes leave the player he's trying to hit.

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP, I saw that too, made me giggle like a little girl

  • I don't have much respect for Gregg WIlliams, and if we go down to the Big Uneasy and put up 30+, he may be out of a job.

That said, this is their home opener and they are going to throw the kitchen sink at us. I expect to see LBs, CBs, safeties all blitzing all the time. Knox can get way open against these guys, and the front 4 is manageable by everyone (except Webb).

    Should be a good game.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Only one team allowed fewer passing TDs than the Bears last year, and we're playing them next week.

  • I'll be appearing on ESPN Radio Des Moines (they like me over there) at 3:35 CST, 4:35 EST.

Click here to listen live: http://player.streamtheworld.com/_players/citadel/?sid=10671&nid=2920

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

    What's her name?

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

I call in, as "Erik Benderovheren"

  • blogdaddy: you at josie woods for all the games? i've been looking for a good bears bar for a while and, like you, and not a big fan of st. marks

  • In reply to evantonio:

i've been at josie woods every sunday for 11 years. there's a lot of us.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

awesome. i'll have to check it out. not too many bears bars in the city. but clearly i can't wear my kreutz jersey next weekend :/

  • Hahaha, very funny!

But way easier than to watch a game from Spain (or almost anywhere from Europe) several years ago ;)

  • My DirecTV didn't work for the 1st half either. It was a problem among one particular receiver for all customers. You bet your arse I'm getting something in return for the inconvenience. Go Bears!

  • I can't remember the last time I noticed so many happy Bears fans blogging on here. I'll tell you this, I have a better feeling about this team than anytime in '05. I know it's just 1 game but our D has more upside than I can remember. (except '85 of course). Our O has more potential than even the '85 Bears. Wow, did I just say that?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I turned to one of my fellow Bears fans at the bar yesterday and said, "I expected us to win...I had no idea we'd be waxing that Falcon ass by halftime".

In fact, as much of a homer fan as I am, I am still a little stunned at how easily the front 4 manhandled Atlanta.

I am very glad that Barber will be back for the NO game. I think his style will be very effective against those junk blitzes they run all game.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

So close to an exact wording I also used.... just kicking instead of waxing.

    It was glorious to watch.

Bet Pep was relieved when it was Lach that picked up the fumble he bobbled and took it to the house :)

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Barber's a better blocker no doubt. Atlanta were missing 2/5 of their line, but imagine what we'd do if we blitzed as well.

  • So what's the deal with Our Boy Roy (not RW, the beer swilling one).

Did NFL Films cease and desist the guy or what? His UTube videos were the best. Are they just dead now?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    He's all over twitter -

    http://twitter.com/#!/yourboyroy

    Now posts @ chicaofootballtalk.com

I'm sure we'll get videos again, soon...

  • In reply to gpldan:

Yup, they chose Roy of all people to cease and desist from using NFL films in an illegal fashion, however thousands of crappy clip compilations featuring inappropriate bad 'heavy metal' soundtracks are permitted to remain. Go figure. Chicagosportstalk is his and it's good.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Probably because Roy is better than anyone that works at nfl.com.

  • 21 of 34 for 305 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions and a 110.5 passer rating.

    Jay Cutler? No.

Sexy Rexy Grossman. Not something I thought I'd be typing in 2011.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    GP

Remember in 06 he was a serious MVP candidate thru 5 games. He will show his true colors over a larger sample size

  • In reply to Dmband:

Yup. I give it 3 more weeks before Rex becomes Hide...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    as Hyde, that is.

  • Now that I have told you that I watched the game and how I watched my roommate sink into a mad depression as Big Ben and his D crumble. I will tell you what I thought of the game.

    Pepper's is the man.

How did you like my hero kicking ass that game? Urlacher better go to the Hall of Fame. That dude is the legit.

Melton did all right and if I remember correctly, did he not go against a second string Center and guard?

Major Wright is becoming a Major Pain. He needs to use his penis to trip people if he is going to come down that hard in the box and then get blocked.

I thought Webb did great. I mean, Our qb wasn't running everywhere and he passed for over 300 yards? We have the best depth at Wideout and Running backs. Don't believe it? Look at their stats. Daunta Robinson is not a bad corner and we tore him up.

I was disappointed in the run attack. It didn't really come alive and we need it to be dominant.

Forte is a beast and did Charles Tillman shut down White and Juilo?

Wow. Over or under 3 sacks for Melton against Kreutz ?

  • My bar couldn't get any of the games either; I had to drive to another one.

I'm not looking forward to those fucking bubble screens next weekend. Those things are as irritating as it gets.

As a concession, I'll bring my week 3 line from -5 to -3, with the Champs laying the points.

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

I'm not sounding rude and if so, I apologize..but did you just compliment the Bear's?

  • In reply to Artoo:

    Artoo -

Don't apologize to the cheese. Spit on him.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Exactly. This is our fucking blog... and there is always VERY thinly veiled disdain and disrespect.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'd dispute the 'thinly veiled' portion of your statement. He just didnt have anything negative to say based on the performance. Of course we could always launch our own offensive www.thepackerbacker.com

  • In reply to Dmband:

    true DM.

Nooooo, don't sink to that level. I can't even imagine wasting 1 millisecond of my life finding and then reading/posting on a fucking packer blog for any reason whatsoever.

Is it really called packbacker? Jesus, that sounds like a gay bar in wisc.

  • In reply to Dmband:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

wow... not that one I only posted once.... weird shit going down today.

  • In reply to Dmband:

They would not have a chance against us, but realize that it would invite retaliation from really uninteresting trolls.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Now that is funny

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

I don’t mean to sound rude, but if I did then... tough fucking shit…

… but the only thing you guys are laying right now is a squishy deuce in your pants after watching us fucking disassemble the falcons yesterday my friend. We already have your number every year, and we're looking to be quite a bit better than we were last year. Now, yes, it’s only one game… and the birds and the saints my both end up sucking this year, but it was pretty convincing for a first game. Let’s see what happens next game.

Personally, I would just start hoping your QB makes it out alive and not worry too much about points. You ready for Matt Flynn (right?) for the rest of the year?

Here’s something to get you started: http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2011/0911/nfl_a_ryan_mbl_200.jpg and http://cbschicago.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/peppers.jpg?w=300 (squeeze, twist, pop… repeat)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

posted it fucking twice just for you

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That is what I should have said but hesitated.. damn me being civil lol

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Including post-season (aka the biggest game in the history of the rivalry)

Lovie Smith is 8 - 7 against the packers
McCarthy is 6 - 5 against the Bears
Rodgers is 5 - 2 against the Bears
Capers is 4 - 1 against the Bears

I don't know if you can say the bears "have our number". Unless you are alluding to the fact that those numbers (specifically, from 2007 - present) should be more lopsided than they are, given the discrepancy between the talent of each team. To which, I would agree: relatively speaking, "the bears have our number". Unfortunately, that hasn't meant much it terms of W's recently.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

........if i remember correctly, Both Rodgers and Cutler started the NFC championship game, but our quarterback wasn't the one who hit the showers early. Why would we worry about the health of our QB before you would yours? Unless of course you think we didn't actually hurt him, but he quit (although I know you don't feel that way). But I guess ultimately it wouldn't bother you to roll out Caleb Hanie - especially against the packers, considering Cutler has a 52.9 career passer rating against Green Bay

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

oh, trust me, I know all this and put the blame for two lost games on lovie last year.

Alas, lad... it's a new year. Should be fun huh?

  • Chiefs safety Eric Berry is done for the year after tearing his ACL on Sunday, NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reports.

  • Willie, like everyone else with DTV, I got hosed hard. The freezing was beyond bad... unwatchable bad. Ended up checking out the game on a link that someone posing as Lobo posted.

If it doesn't get fixed by GB, I'm outty. I already spoke to WaterBoy who now works in DTV cus supp I guess, and told dude to put a note in there… I miss one more game due to shitty service and I want a full refund…. Please. I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that they didn’t think there’d be ridiculous traffic on the first weekend of almost didn’t have a season football??? Really? You didn’t plan for that? Maybe that’s not how it works – I’m not that up on satellites?

I’ll let you know how it goes next weekend my man.

GP, you’re LULZing today mang. And I posted the same thing yesterday. There was one play where I thought they were going to take the fucker out on a straightboard in a neck brace. Dude needs to get his head up bit time... scary.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I have Direct TV and they gave us one week of free football. I had no problems at all watching the Bear's.

Now I will be on here or hoping that I get the game.

  • In reply to Artoo:

where are you erik? Different satalite I think...

and did you read this up top in response to your post on the other thread: "Erik, I keed because I love. I was just messing with you man. I don't pick on you, I mess around with you because I like you. (not in a gay way)"

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Erik:

Getting the feed from a bird in the sky via your dish (which is also a compressed MPEG4 stream btw, but delivered celestially) is totally different than what MB is doing. He's getting a packet stream over his DSL or Cable broadband (no celestial delivery) and it's rendering on his PS3.

Different set of tech problems. MB has about 100 things that can go wrong, most of which are his problem. You have issues that can go wrong, but DirectTv is responsible for the majority of them.

  • In reply to gpldan:

so my wife is actually right GP... it's always all my fault?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You need my T-shirt for Sundays

  • In reply to gpldan:

yeah, the wife would looove that.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Pretty much, I imagine

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    thanks dave

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You know how these things go, buddy. Usually easier to just accept the blame.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, glad you straightened that out . I was feelin bad for Artoo and hoping the future Mrs. Artoo didn't read that and get pissed at him. Erik, as far as I'm concerned you can give me a play by play of your sexual exploits any time. Just one question? Did you have the cape on while you were letting her have it?

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Hahahaha... murph, you crack me up you dirty bird.

Yeah, I think most of the reg here know most of the time I'm fucking around and trying to entertain. The only time I'm really serious is with Angelo and his (non) treatment of the oline.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Murph, I didn't have time to change into my suit.. see superman 2 for when in bed.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Did he have the cape on ! LOL! Trick question. An hour? Of course he did Murph.

If she does get pissed and leaves you or pisses you off on a regular basis Artoo, just pack that shit up and move to Thailand. Seriously. Calculus will be completely useless to you here though - a basic understanding of addition will make you king. Even the average females are stunning and you be as a god amongst them ... they fall over themselves trying to get fat 60-year old expats to look after them. A caped Adonis-like viking would get wolf-whistled and eye-raped everywhere he went. Your horizons are only as far as you can see my friend. This is not a rehearsal.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I went to school with some Thai girls that were total knockouts.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I read it earlier and it is all cool MB. I kinda lost it a little anyways.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I am STILL waiting for these geniuses to send out someone to give me a second opinion on the install. They just continually bullshit me.

So, keep me posted on the quality of the PS3 stream next week.
The trip to the sports bar is expensive and annoying for those of us not in a pedestrian heaven like NYC.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

yeah MBP, they are fucking terrible with cust service.

  • The Hester bubble screen worked. Finally! But I don't think its 1 payout was worth the 20 times I've seen it gain 2 yards.

  • In reply to Jokey:

    +500 points

Although I have much more faith in Martz knowing when to call it and disguise it, feint it and use it - than Wrong Turner, who could have carried a motherfucking placard onto the field saying "HESTER SCREEN" in bold letters and gotten no worse results.

  • Henry Melton had 7 QB hits to go with his 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks? Uh. Damn.

Bears -7. That is all day.

  • We didnt have any problems with DTV here on the west coast...thankfully. I had three of my Bears fan buddies over for the game and I'm sure we would have all gone nuts if it wasnt working.
That D is looking STRONG and the Bears make me look like a fantasy wizard. Even good old Greg stayed on the roster and made me some points.

Jeff- I'm with you.. The Bears D is really salivating for a ring and you could see it in that last game. Good job on the radio Jeff!

  • I thought the PS3 idea was genius but as the old saying goes "what is too good to be true usually is."

Did I metion how awesome Urlacher was ?

Pepper's is going in the hall of fame.

He had a deflection, forced fumble, 2 sacks(possibly 3 if you inculde him making Ice drop the ball), and those are literally Linebacker numbers. This dude is unreal and I think our DT will be the help he needs to actually become what he wants to become. MVP.

  • tee hee hee...................................... even fucking ex-bears get no respect....Hey Jim welcome to the club we have jackets:

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/12/jim-harbaugh-wants-to-see-more-49ers-highlights-on-tv/

  • Alex Brown is on Chicago Tribune Live talking about next weeks game. Talk about insight.

Great start Bears. These first 3 games are going to set the tone for the entire season. If we can get to 3-0, this is a team of destiny. If we win next week I'm booking my trip to Indy

  • Ha! I was waiting for someone besides myself to say it. I told my co-worker (packer fan) that this was the team of destiny this year since there was no way that the Saints could defeat us and that Rodgers may not make it out of our battle alive. If we go 3-0 then it looks like my 200.00 wager at 40-1 may just pay out.

All in One 5,000 dollar beer system from Uncrate has my mother fucking name on it.

  • In reply to Gucci Mang:

    BOOM!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

during the game my wife comments and says, "I don't think that "ice guy" is going to be able to walk straight after this game. Who's number 90? He is good at football.

    Yes honey, he does alright.

Urlacher said the pregame ceremonies for 9/11 gave him chills. Then he went out and sent shivers down the spine of every offensive coordinator on the Bears' schedule.

  • In reply to lobotobear:

I noticed right away that our boys went right to the flag on the opening ceremony and held that flag tight...watched other teams that didn't even get close to the flag to honor our fallen angels.

DAMN proud to be an American and a BEAR FAN!!!

  • Where is everyone?

Are ya'll reading my story again on the last thread? lol

  • In reply to Artoo:

    R2....dude way to much info.......lol!

  • In reply to lobotobear:

    I know I know

  • In reply to Artoo:

Reading it? They're jacking off to it ....

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

This is why I love this blog lmao

  • That's quite the experience Jeff. So what's your early opinion of the Saints? In my opinion they looked better than the Falcons.

And Oooh baby, let's go oakland.

  • man it's nice to have FB back.

You give brady that kind of time and he's going to fuck you up two time. Damn dude is calm and collected.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The man doesn't get enough credit compared to Manning. I know who Manning had when he won his superbowl but I cannot name who tom had on his team when he won a superbowl except for the ones he lost with moss

  • In reply to Artoo:

??? really? common man, they are ALWAYS stacked.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

and he looks so pretty doin it too.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    I can only name one.

Stacked? They were the underdogs against the Rams, Idk how they beat Carolina, and McNabb and TO gave it to them.

  • GET SOME!!

  • Does anyone know how to put a picture in my avatar?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

You have to use the website. Can't remember it but you have to use it and give them the email you use to log on here

  • In reply to Artoo:

Oh jeez, not worth the trouble forget about it.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    www.gravatar.com

  • Lasting images from the Falcons dress down:
Forte running left and absolutely jock straps Cunta Robinson in his tracks. I have not seen Forte juke anyone that bad, and Cunta is a legit DB [and douche bag....DB]
The play when Pep and...was it Melton, sandwiched Ice Bag in the 4th and he had to take a time out to clear his head. Priceless.
Pep chasing Ice Bag and almost ripped his head off, got his helmet anyways. Glad that Pep is honing his skills, and hopefully in week 3 he will perfect the act and actually remove Rodgers head from torso.
RW looked reinvigorate. I know most hate his 1st down crap, but I blew Guinness out my nose laughing when he weakly attempted to do it while gimping to the bench with a strained groin after catchin a 1st down. Let's give the dude some support, kinda like his moxy.
    Urlacher is a beast.
Fuckin Mad Mike calling stupid ass wildcat play on 2nd and 4 late in game, lose a couple yards, and then dumb pass call that turns into pick 6, and Cutty almost gets hurt. WTF! Run the ball and kill the clock you F-kin moron Martz.
The Saints will be tough in the Dome. Hope to see B Meriweather and the Barbarian join the party.

  • I fought that avatar photo for a while today. Now I have the one I want. Go to theChicagoNow tab and Learn More. You have to use Gravatar....

  • Here we go Neck-beard here we go!

  • Yikes.

  • when i see Mark Anderson on the fucking Patriots i just get angry.

  • In reply to Gucci Mang:

I like Gabe Carimi and all, but don't you wish Nate Solder could have fallen to the Bears in this years draft? Nate Solder playing at Soldier Field? It's too right to be wrong.

  • In reply to Shady:

hard to say mang, sherrod is not ready, danny watkins is not ready, etc. About half of those first rounders are playing.

  • In reply to Gucci Mang:

Nate Soldier was sitting on Cameron Wake for half of the game, the guy is a monster and it pisses me off that Belicheat racks up these picks and QBs and MORE picks and it never ends! Tom Brady is clearly the best QB in the game.

  • In reply to Shady:

yep, that's what I want for the bears, and why I'm always so damn hard on Angelo... who's the diametric opposite of the pats.

    Btw… Jesus… broncos are a mess.

  • In reply to Shady:

Ahuh. Or we shoulda traded up for Pouncey.

  • and now for something completely different:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8Bc7eRTdWY&feature=related

    hee hee hee ouch!

  • Miami is turrrible. Add clock mgmt to the extensive list of things that the fins don't do well.

  • Well, my first foray into football betting went well. Thank you Arizona, Green Bay, Brian Urlacher and Tom Brady. Dolphins have the ball on the NE goal-line and can't get it in. Brady then throws a 99 yarder to Welker. Thank you. Thank you very much. 150 euro now equals 750. I like this no-spread betting. Baby's got new shoes.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Yourr comments on the last thread are hilarious. Btw saw your comment under my comment about missing the game. You should have saw how pissed my mom, I mean roommate was lol

  • In reply to Artoo:

    last thread??!?!?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Yeah go look at it

  • In reply to Artoo:

Dude, she needed to see that. A controlled man will squirm like an oily fish in wet hands the tighter the grip gets. Sunday is football for three hours when the Bears are playing. Period. Give and take brother.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    (...and thank you Viva.)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yup, although they were the two biggest favorites and were going in anyway. Spread betting sucks. Arizona let me down this week on DBB's picks contest even though they won by a TD and the spread was -7. Then again you don't win any cash for it ...

  • Btw, where is Crown?

  • In reply to Artoo:

taking his new bride from behind with a superman cape... for an hour.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    on... damn it... cape ON.

    FUCK!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Lmao totally worth sharing

  • I had to put Chrome on my MacPro. The Gnomes code sucks. Safari just won't open that red login box javascript overlay.

Anyhoo - Raiders D looks too legit to quit.

  • Irish luck is smiling on Angelo and the Bears, eh? Colon down for the season and the Steelers, sheesh. Good thing he turned us down.

  • Peyton Manning is to Dan Marino as Tom Brady is to Joe Montana.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    True

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Yes.

  • Orton's stache is some sort of tribute to Jeff Hostedler.

  • I like our battering ram John Daly, but Marcell Reese is the beast. Dude was a wide receiver in college. Many GNC protein shakes later, guy is the most versatile Raider since Dave Casper.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Clutts

    Young John Daly

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Sweet mullet.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I was thinkg the same GP. Man, Reese would be dangerous in Martz system. He blocks like a bull and catches like a gazelle.

Clutts looks solid though. He's the reason Hester bubble screen finally worked the 20th time.

  • It didn't take the announcers long to mention Tim Tebow, poor Kyle.

And on that note I'm going to bed to dream of Cutler throwing frozen ropes to the Duke of Earl. mmmmBearssss.

  • In reply to Shady:

Yup, not being able to throw the ball more than 15 yards was always going to be the knock on Kyle.

  • I don't know why everyone is so giddy about the victory yesterday. The Falcons were clearly the better team. They had more first downs and more total yards. The Bears just got lucky with a few turnovers.
If you don't believe me, you should have watched ESPN today. For four hours before the first game tonight, not one commentator mentioned the Bears game. On NFL Primetime, they showed about 1 minute of highlights with no commentary. On NFL Live, the game was never mentioned. On the pre-game show, the game was never mentioned. Luckily I had the shows on DVR, so I didn't actually watch them. I should have known better. The Bears and Falcons were the two top seeds last year, and the game was never mentioned. I won't even bother recording the shows in the future, just like last year. I wasted about 20 minutes fast forwarding that bullshit. Tomorrow NFL live will spend 10 minutes breaking down what the Falcons did wrong and what they need to do to right their ship.
I guess I'll stick to the Doug and OB post game show and Mully and Hanley on podcast. The rest is pretty much garbage. Brad Biggs at the Trib is pretty good.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Like most political reporters, most sports reporters are sheep. They don't have an ounce of originality. They just follow whatever someone else says. Most ex-players who are commentators don't follow the game as much as we do, and they are plainly very stupid people.
The only analyst I truly respect is Kirk Herbstreit for college football.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Wow. I'd call them takeaways, and we fkn hammered them.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I think he was being facetious Irish.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That's what I thought but idk

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah, I was responding to ESPN .... I detected sarcasm but had to really dig.

  • Janiskowski just tied Dempsey's record, with a 63 yard FG. Bitch was good from 70.

  • In reply to gpldan:

But both his and Elam's kick were made in Denver at altitude so they shouldn't count as being tied. Dempsey's should be on its own.

  • That Welker 99 yarder was funkin reedunkulous. Holy shit, who is #27 on the Fish?

He gets the god damn Nathan Vasher Rock Jock award. That was AWWWWWFUL.

  • In FF for FG, 1-39 is 3
    40-49 is 4
    50+ is 5

    Shouldn't 60+ be 7?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Not if it's in Denver!

  • No lie, I watched from my grandma's 90th birthday party, what I initially viewed as my very sweet grandma's very special 90th birthday party turned into the best 90th birthday party I've ever been to, better than many of my own. Happy Birthday to me. Thanks Chicago Bears.

  • Jeff, just looking at that Bills Bar makes me claustrophobic and glad I could watch the game from the comfort of my own home.

For the first time, I used DirectTvs Slingbox, which was awesome! My computer is 720 HD, and I had it hooked up to my TV, so I was in heaven. No more having to frantically search for pirate links that stall, crash, or look like an atari game.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Atari was the shit though ...

  • That's a great story buddy. I got so tired of going to bars at 9am to get a good seat to watch the Bears out here in LA I broke down and got Direct TV. I miss you guys.

  • Wow, next week's games look a lot harder. I can only see three penalty kicks.

    JAC@NYJ. Duh.
    GB @ CAR. Smegheads win.
    KC @ DET. Kitties win

Baltimore @ TEN. Baltimore win this surely? Anyone see Tennessee play at the w/end?.Were PIT that bad?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Is the fact that Saints will be missing Lance Moore and Colston enough to seriously retard their offense?

  • oops: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-cant-miss-plays/09000d5d822306dd/Welker-goes-the-distance?module=HP11_cp

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    there you go GP
