Audibles From the Long Snapper

Audibles From the Long Snapper

Is Secondary Top Concern?

I rarely agree with David Haugh but if it's true that Jerry Angelo's primary concern is the secondary - or more specifically the pass defense - then Angelo is a smart man.  But I don't think Angelo's concern should only be the talent at the corner and safety positions, especially if the starters remain healthy.  The concern should also be the Bears inability to get to the quarterback with consistency once opponents commit a double or triple-team to stop Peppers.  This concern will leave the land of the hypothetical, however, as the Bears open the season with three of the best passing teams in the league: Atlanta, New Orleans, Green Bay.

Bears Waive Fullback, Clear Roster Space

The Bears released fullback Will Ta’ufo’ou Tuesday, causing a Twitter speculation on who they were targeting to fill his roster space.  Most believe it will be a linebacker but how can the New York Giants allow any linebacker capable of fundamental tackling leave the open market for any other team?  They already had one of the worst units in the league and have lost two-thirds of it to season ending injuries.  (How much of an injury liability must Lofa Tatupu be if the Giants haven't thrown a buck of money at him this afternoon?)

Forte Contract Talks on Hold

From PFT:

Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo told WBBM in Chicago that the Bears and Forte’s representatives have agreed to put off contract talks until after the season.  There were recently reports that Forte was getting offered a deal with roughly $13-14 million guaranteed.  Clearly, that wasn’t enough to close a deal.

Am I crazy or is Forte overplaying his hand a bit here?  Is he much better than I think he is?  Forte is a reliable runner/receiver hybrid and will thrive in the Mike Martz offense this season but is he really worth crippling your salary cap over?  I don't think so.

  • All I can say is I am giddy as a girl...FIRST BITCHES!!!

  • Blogfader... This is "Glitchy just buying some time...he should of done this with Briggs too. second's anyone?

  • Thanks for being bold enough to state your opinion on Forte's value Jeff. I agree with you big time. Matty has had the advantage of playing on a team that revolves around the RB. I believe Kahill Bell can thrive in our scheme. Don't get me wrong, Matty was a solid 2nd round pick and has been a reliable player for the Bears but I just cannot see any justification for DeAngelo or Chris Johnson type pay.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

When Forte looks like Faulk 2.0, and leaves because JA wouldn't come up with an extra million or two (which the franchise has WASTED many times over ala Chester, Moolah, Butter, etc.) don't say *anything*.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

When Forte looks like Faulk 2.0, the Bears had better be hoisting the Lombardi. Win me a championship boys, then come calling for a raise.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    Child please.

Forte with healthy legs (if you recall, he ran a whole season on bad legs) can out run safeties and get around the corner. Few backs have that kind of speed.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I sprayed my love jism on Leshoure in the draft just gone. Paella can kiss my ass from the gym. Had we drafted (probably) the best RB in the draft at 53 instead of the gym-bunny-no-football-instincts-show-pony, then Forte doesn't have a skinny leg to stand on. Had we been drfting quality through the years, then there's a hungry young LB ready to jump into Briggs' spot if he'd dumb enough to sit out on one of the greatest, most storied, legendary LB crews of NFL history.

I left my no-FB comments on the last thread where they belong. In peace. Amen.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

umm isn't Leshoure injured? How is having an unproven injured RB on our Roster going to affect talks with Forte?

  • In reply to Urlacher FTW:

Someone grabbed him inour league too but I believe he is on I.R.

  • 1. Focus "Glitchy" Focus...wtf

    2. Is thinking the "Barbarian" as FB?....wtf

    3. This will PISS BRIGGS!!!...wtf

    4. For all it............ wtf

  • I gotta repost this, as this bugs me....

So... Martz hated the way that Girly Thor was made into a FB, said his style doesn't fit our offense, so we went out and got Kyle Adams and have him playing exactly like a cheaper version of Olsen. Does this make sense? Must Angelo invoke the Chewbacca defense?

Man, not having a head knocking FB pisses me off. The best runs of the pre-season came when Eddie Williams dropped somebody on their ass, and Forte ran behind him.

I just do not get this.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I was shocked when we got rid of E.Williams... I thought he looked like a fucking stud.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Word on the street is Moose is coming out of retirement... one last hurrah.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Kyle Adams is more equipped to play the h-back but I actually can't imagine him suiting up on game day very often. I would think Spaeth will slide into the roll rather seamlessly.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

Meh, spaeth, while a good TE from all accounts and what we saw in preseason, is NOT a fullback. Just sayin.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

He ain't no goddamn fullback. We had three on the roster and Hughes could have played it. Why the frak can't we have a FB play FB? What is the damn problem with these people?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

We have Mike Martz, he doesn't use a FB in his offense. Why would we have a position on the roster that our OC doesn't employ?

  • In reply to gpldan:

The difference is that Olsen was a starter. It didn't make sense to use him much as a FB. By contrast, Martz can treat Adams as primarily a FB, that also has the flexibility to be a backup TE.

And Adams did have some nice blocking plays for big gains in the CLE game. I'm not sure that it was enough to warrant unseating a true FB.... But in a situation where they need roster flexibility to deal with injuries (they already are 26-24 biased to defense, roster-wise), they may be comfortable enough with Adams's play to make this move, at least temporarily.

I wouldn't be surprised if after the injury situation clears up they brought back UFO or Eddie, BTW.

  • really surprised that Forte didnt get a deal done. The market had been clearly defined by the Johnson deal @ somewhere between 15-30 million guaranteed. Personally I think that Forte is a 20mil guaranteed guy. I might be off base on that , but his numbers speak for themself. I think the Bears may live to regret this. If he goes out and has a monster all purpose yards type season (that I believe he will) 20 mil guaranteed might be a steal. I actually like that Forte is "betting on himself" a bit here.

  • In reply to Dmband:

If Forte continues to improve, the Bears should get 3 to 5 more years out of him. They will come to terms eventually.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Couldn't agree more DM (BTW, is DM in reference to Depeche Mode?)

$20 mil guaranteed is going to seem like a man-hole cover next year when AP signs his deal. If Forte once again keeps up with AP in total yards, I don't think he or his agent are going to be looking at D. Williams as a model, but AP, and that's almost for sure going to lead us to Franchise him. I actually thought the Bears should have signed Forte b4 C.J., but who knows how much Forte is asking for.

Just give Forte 20mil gauranteed (frontloaded - don't think he'll pull a Child Support) before next season or rumors of how much AP is going to get, and we're set at HB for the next 3-4 years.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Dave Matthews Band. I just opened myself up to a world of criticism.

  • In reply to Dmband:

I thought I saw in an article that Forte is #5 in the entire NFL in yards from scrimmage since he came into the league. And we know for sure that one year was on a bad leg.

Not locking him up now would be one of the very worst decisions since I became a fan in 1965. And there is a lot of competition.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I agree - the guy is not just as a "system" back and he is a high character guy to boot. His karma offsets Meriweather.

I don't know how we could not resign him - our failure to do something before the season, in his case, is truly puzzling to me.
If they franchise him next year, they pay through the nose. If they don't franchise him next year, they either pay through the nose or he walks.
So, why not lock him up now?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Because he's under contract?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

This is a beyond ignorant point of view. So you think football front offices are irresponsible or cowing to player demands whenever they extend any player contract? That the Patriots were idiots to extend Tom Brady's contract last year? That the Bears were idiots to extend Alex Brown's (2008) or Izzy's (2009) contracts? Or Mannelly's in 2005?

Seriously, you rail about making stupid personnel and contract decisions, yet can't picture a reality where it's smart or even acceptable to extend a player's contract before it expires? So I guess every FO should let every player contract run out before deciding what to do, whether they are a superstar or a solid starter or role player, no matter if you want to keep him or not. Because renegotiating before they have to would just be dumb. Couldn't possibly be shrewd to, you know, choose what do (e.g. lock up now, wait for a better market, or pick your highest leverage time, etc) based on what saves the most money and/or makes players happy (which affects your ability to sign good players). Sorry, but this bizarre attitude held by so many people needs to be debunked, where they refuse to see the simple logic in this concept.

  • In reply to Michael L:

I never said don't renegotiate his contract. Forte has a case, Briggs doesn't. The timing is just all completely wrong, it's the season already - at least he's not sitting out - he'll get his money.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Oh, my bad then Irish.

You should have said "because the season is about to start" then instead of "because he's under contract" -- that confused me. Especially since a couple weeks ago you said that it wasn't the "right time" then either.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Dude thinks his shit don't stink. People say he's fast? Not playing the same ball game as Neal Anderson, sorry. Neal got a crack of daylight near the edge and he was gone baby gone, forward his mail.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

You know I loved Neal too, Irish, but don't say Forte is not fast. He is,really. Watch how often he gets caught from behind. Not often.

Attention - it is not a money league!

    Shit's free! JOIN IT!

  • We went with Super Mario, but signing Wale to a conditional was an interesting idea

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adewale_Ogunleye

We could have had ABrown and Wale back this year....

  • Did anyone notice Maynard got cut by the Texans?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Wow, so how many Bears does that make?

Harris, Brown, Wale, Nasher, Clark, Harrison (his fat ass didn't pass the physical)...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

From Larry Meyer over at the Bears site:

Former Bears who were cut by other teams: S Al Afalava (Colts), CB DeAngelo Smith (Browns), WR Justin Gage (Titans), TE John Gilmore (Steelers), DT Tommie Harris (Colts), WR Juaquin Iglesias (Vikings), LB Joey LaRocque (Jets), QB Dan LeFevour (Bengals), P Brad Maynard (Texans) and CB Nate Vasher (Lions).

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Angelo fans please stand up.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Not an Angelo fan, but I don't get the connection. Is it good or bad that Angelo cut all of these players which were then also cut by other teams?

  • In reply to buckbear:

Don't bother asking. Everything reflects poorly on Angelo, regardless of whether it or its opposite is true.

If all these players stuck, Angelo would be the idiot that let them go.

  • In reply to Michael L:

You've got such a bug up your ass about this I'm beginning to think you actually work at Halas Hall. Either that or the last time you got laid the Cowboys were in the playoffs.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Nah, I'm just tired of every other comment thread ending in a JA insult. It just gets old. I came to DBB precisely to get away from that shit.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Not only did Maynard get cut... but they have (or had anyway) no other punter on the roster! And they had cut down to 52 players! Very bizarre.

  • In reply to Michael L:

Damn. I guess Toub wasn't fuckn around when he let Maynard go.

In yet more evidence that I need a life, our second string punter Richmond McGee is on the Browns roster. He looked better than our starter in that 4rth preseason game.

They want to slow down the 3 amigo's lobo. Probably not a bad idea considering they're sniffing 0-3 if things don't go the Bears way on opening day.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Given that we're a speed-oriented Defense and Offense, it kind of sucks.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

sniffing 0-3 if things don't go the Bears way? mainge, you do know that Ryan is a fucking dead man do you not? you also know that Brees is a fucking dead man and furthermore did you know that Rodgers is fucking dead?

THE SEASON IS IN 4 DAYS. 12-4 and no hesitation in my typing.

  • I'm just observing the obvious. The Bears didn't roll over anyone last year that was noteworthy. I see one stone cold lock during the first 8 weeks and that would be Carolina, it will be nip and tuck all year.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Nah, Atlanta BD. We'll kill them. Stone cold kill them in week one. They won't be able to run it, and Ryan is going to have people in his grill all day long. Our offense is too much for their D. I don't even think it'll be close. I can feel it in my waters. 6/5 no spread my man. Easy money.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

even without Hughes Irish? How will we move the ball?

  • lol

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Who did? I don't think the packers won or lost a single game all season by more than a touchdown, and they won the SB.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    i hear ya

  • Any praise of JA triggers uncontrollable rage these days, regardless of validity. But seriously, we'll see how things play out this season because anything can happen.

Hell, even Rex Grossman leading the Redskins to first place in the NFC East doesn't sound THAT crazy, does it?

  • In reply to Shady:

  • Pucker up Brownie, looks like we may have a nail biter in ff this week. Greenfield may smoke me in Da other league.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Jebus, I nearly forgot to set my fantasy teams, thanks BD!

  • As for who the Bears are going to pick-up, it's gotta be a LB. I think I read somewhere that Lovie never has gone into a season with less than 6 LBs, and considering our SPs concern, I envision us picking up yet another UFDA to fill both roles. Barring some major CB/LB surprise cut, that would be my best guess. Maybe later in the season we pick-up Pisa.

As to which LB we scrape from the scrap heap, it'll prob be some dude we never heard of who the Bears have liked from afar.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

"The team could always bring in another fullback. Or it could look for help at another position. The Bears are carrying only five linebackers, and they’ve never started a season under Lovie Smith without at least six.

We’ll see how it plays out. One source said the team could show interest in former Iowa linebacker A.J. Edds, who was released by the Miami Dolphins. Edds might be claimed on waivers Tuesday, though."

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-going-without-fullback-after-waiving-taufoou-20110906,0,6170875.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+chicagosports%2FBears+%28ChicagoSports.com+-+Chicago+Bears%29

    Biggs in my subconscious...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    Patriots claimed him already.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

shocking. But we shouldn't want that in our management.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Once Carolina claims CB Darius Butler, there will be 13 players who went to camp with Patriots with other teams. They've become a farm team.

    Shefter, Twitter.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I imagine the Bears will pick up one maybe two players after the first week of the season. If they are looking for a linebacker, they better let the air out of the Giants tour bus cause after the G-men fill all their needs at LB, I doubt any players will be available.

  • Does everybody believe here that Matt isn't as good as D Williams? If you do I think your crazy...Do I think that Williams is overrated, Yes. But you can not tell me that he is better than Forte. Answer me this...if you take MJD or RRice and switch places w/Forte, does either of them play as well or does Matty thrive in the Jags or Ravens offense? Maybe but don't count on it.
He deserves to be paid. 500k for the season for the amount of work he puts in is crazy. Should he play out his contract? Yes. But there is a list of other players that after the third or fourth year of their rookie contract had outplayed that value and have been taken care of. Is Kahlil Bell or MBarber the furture back of the Bears going forward? I think not. He is a 2nd rd pick that has played better than some high first rd picks(Enis,Salam, Benson, until cincy) and will only continue to get better. If we had a better offensive line he would probably be the best back in the NFL...even better than AP and CJ.
DID I JUST SAY THAT? yes. my opinion.
    BEAR DOWN

AND briggs has no legs to stand on. He knew his deal was front loaded and he still signed it. I love him as a player and think this was just bad timing. The management (while i think are the worst in the league) prolly looked at him and said," Are you Fucking kidding me?" "You want a new contract right now a week and a half before the season starts and didn't say a fucking thing at all until now?" "Get the fuck out of here and go play football!"

And please be the second coming of MB Brandon Merriweather...just stay in your coverage and don't take to many chances. Your only 27 and could be a bear for life...this could be the best defense the league. I like this alot.

OK....5 days to the start of a good season and SB run...Bear down boys(and any girls)...BEAR DOWN!!!

  • In reply to Darrek:

In '09 he had a lousy year carrying the ball and his goal line scoring percentage has been abysmal the last 2 years. 5 for 38 I think. The front office obviously feels like we need a player like the Barbarian to punch it into the end zone in crunch time. Matty doesn't give them that option as a rb and that is probably what has been standing in the way of a new deal.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Yeah his redzone performance has been shitty but don't you think if we had the offensive line that we need or could have had, he would have been able to punch it in? Also, when you don't try to run those goalline plays that count instead of some WR screen or RB trick play and punch the ball in, he would have been better there too.
    Bad, bad, O-line.

  • In reply to Darrek:

And if he can break a big run of twenty or more or even a small run and break some tackles with good blocking, the goalline wouldn't be as big of deal. Barbarian is awesome at this and just about every team has a goelline or redzone back.
But i agree... they all need to get better on 3rd dn and redzone.

  • In reply to Darrek:

Forte has a case. Briggs doesn't. But neither smooch-head should be bringing up this shit when we're about to do battle......

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    exactly...plain and simple.

  • Oh, and Jeff, I haven't heard what you think about Tressel being "suspended" for 6 games...are you against the NFL acting as an enforcer for the NCAA on principle, or just in the cases of Pryor and Tressel?

Like to know your two cents on it; it is after all your blog lol

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I think it's all smoke n mirrors 85. The league, front offices and NCAA only want the appearance of having standards. At the end of the day, it's all a shell game. Such is life.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I heard Goodell on Mike and Mike, and something he said about the situation caught my attention. Goodell said that he didn't want college players bolting from college because of the suspension, which I thought was PR BS. He also said that he thought that college players should stay in school and that the NFL encourages that, which was PR BS. Then he said that he didn't want college players coming out in the supplemental draft. DING DING DING, we have a winner!

Goodell doesn't want good players ending up in the supplemental draft cuz the regular draft is becoming more and more of a money maker, and he doesn't want potential nfl stars sneaking in through the supplemental without making the NFL money by going through the draft.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

So true 85...Douchell is money hungry scrub that happen to just fall into his commish role after Tagliabue(er..spell) left. He has no LEGAL right to do any of this and if someone looked closely i'm sure would find some serious infractions of league rules. But perception is reality and the NFL and the NCAA will be a partnership before the end of our lifetime. There is to much money to be had for them not to. The NFL has been using the NCAA as a free scouting tool for years and why not make some money because of it. Look at VICK. Goodell put me in Philly and i'm thankfull... he says. Before we know it there won't be a draft, it will be the NFLCAA and they will be placing players where they want them instead of a draft. Then think about the Loot they'll make. Jesus...

  • In reply to Darrek:

    Douchell...+1

  • I think it's ridiculous man. One has nothing to do with the other... on paper at least (see darrek's rant above).

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Seems like Douchell is just making it up as he goes along, which is what a lot of players were grumbling about him.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

was that agreement then MB? or you think i'm crazy? They have everything to do w/each other. Where would the players come from then w/out college football? High school?
    Just checkin...

  • In reply to Darrek:

    Yes, and yes D.

Yes I think your scenario is plausible and we're not that far away from it... yes, I think the whole thing is bullshit as it currently stands.

Punishing college players and coaches in the NFL for what happened in college? WTF is that ridiculous sheite?

  • Damn...

Pure congrats to IRISH, for having the straight up BALLS to start Kellen Davis at TE in DBB2. Props to you mother-effer.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Ha ha...I'm going up against Willie Aint Gault this week and REALLY want him to lose cuz he has the Pack as his D/SP.

For the record, I could have picked them, but I chose the Raven's D on principle.

Willie also has CJ, while I have Hillis, so this should be interesting. Willie also has Pmanning I think as his back up.

    Common Willie, start Pmanning!

  • In reply to 4ever85:

The Packers D is projected to get 2... Now, if there's anything I have learned over the last few years - those projections mean dick.

I hate them, and it was hard to do, but... I think they'll be purty good.

And yes, PMan is my back up.

    I hate that whole squad.

  • We are signing former 1st Rd picks + We need a LB = Aaron Maybin ??

I replied on the original thread... Without a point spread, I would stick with the Packers and Patriots. Bet 5 to win 2...40% return on investment.

I do think the Bears will beat the Falcons this weekend (as do you), but when you get points (the Bears are +3) you keep them, so I will not money-line (6/5) the bet.

  • please explain this to me someone...

ESPNChiBears With Eddie Williams possibly heading to Cleveland, Bears might be looking at Browns practice squad FB Tyler Clutts to fill roster void. JD

wait, so we cut a bad ass that proved he could blast some LBs and open holes in preseason play for us, just to pick up some practice squad scrub?!?!?! What in thee hell? And please don’t tell me money… what… was the difference a diet coke?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Doesn't it seem like one summer day during the lockout that Jerry read "Moneyball" and has decided to try Sabermetrics in football, only he's the worst mathematician and statistician ever, so we get Jerrymetrics, and nobody can follow the logic except him?

  • In reply to gpldan:

The idea of Jerry reading this paper makes me go tee hee.

    http://elsa.berkeley.edu/users/dromer/papers/nber9024.pdf

  • In reply to gpldan:

I actually was able to see Moneyball last week prior to its release. Good stuff. Its worth seeing.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Clutts really replaces Ta'ufo'ou, not Williams. And Tua...whatever was not PS eligible, so he would have taken up a game day roster spot - which I assume the coaches were not hankering for. Clutts gives them roster flexibility - and he's about 10 lbs and a couple of inches bigger than Ta'ufo'ou, I believe. I assume there was something they liked about the Samoan over EW. I didn't follow that competition very closely.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    2 Words MB. "The Barbarian".

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    Barber's only 218.

  • Here is the logic as I see it:

Clutts can play special teams and Will can not (I have no idea if this is true or not as I have no clue what either guy can do on ST). Just a guess, but the value they place on special teamers can not be argued by a rational man...and if this preseason proved anything, it is that Toub has his work cut out for him.

  • Ok, so we wanted a ST player and not a real fullback. Ok, makes perfect sense... classic martz/jerry I guess.

... although, I am pretty damn sure I watched (with my own eyes) Eddie Williams make a big hit on a kick off in one of the preseason games, but hey, I guess that's neither here nor there right. Right?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Actually that's wrong or not the whole story.

Rewind the DVR to when we blocked the Titans punt, the punter grabs the ball and runs for the first down. Who totally lost contain, stood there like a doofus then slipped and let the punter past him?

    Eddie Williams.

Maybe he laid a guy out, but he was gonna be in Taub's shithouse.

  • In reply to gpldan:

oh... uhhhhh... right... well... I did see him open some holes at FB. Right. then.

  • Anyone seen Tim Shaw around?

Paging Time Shaw to aisle 2.

  • Michael try not to get riled up by Irish's posts. It will raise your blood pressure needlessly. He's one of my favorite posters.

    Crown, +1 on the Hucklebuck.

MB, are you really trying to think logically when it comes to rounding out our roster? Have you learned nothing in the last 10 years of JA?

Hopefully our O comes out in sync. If it is, I like our chances. If not, uh-oh. Last time we faced them Ryan threw 50 some passes against us. 49 were slants in front of Peanut. I really hope we don't see that again.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    *sigh*

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

You're right, I like Irish. I'm just letting the constant negativity get to me. Let's get this season started!

  • In reply to Michael L:

Mike... it's not negativity man, it's the truth... the sad truth about our leadership. And you know what... YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

...anyway, the feelings about management should have no bearing on how any of us feel about this team and their chances this year. I think, like most other fans, we feel like we have a legit shot at the title... if not more than most fans. I do.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Nah, I can handle criticism about the Bears leadership -- in fact, I've dished out plenty myself.

What gets me is when it is automatic and with no reasoned, logical thought behind it -- like it's pure reflex. I mean once it gets to that, what's the point?

Why can't we as fans, especially at the start of a new season, just accept there are reasons for things that are hidden from us, and just wait to see how the season goes before ripping into the decision-making? Once we see the results, by all means let's criticize the fuck out of it. But until then, it's just needless and pointless negativity and bad karma.

Or am I out in space on this?

  • Guess what kids... it's my birthday. And all I ask is that the Bears make a big signing today. I know it's getting late in the day, and the season for that matter..but please.. eight pound nine ounce baby Jesus please let the Bears sign someone of some significance.

  • Happy B-day Sac! Hope you get some. I'm with ya on a big signing today.

    Incredible.

    Love the Portillo's reference.

  • God I love Don Banks and his sanctimonious hack job on the bears each and every year:

    Chicago Bears (0-0)
At the start of a training camp interview I did with him, Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz leaned over and whispered: "We're going to be pretty good. Nobody thinks so, but we're going to be pretty good." But I don't know, Mike. I'm not seeing the positive omens at the moment. Lance Briggs wants a new deal or wants to be gone. Talks break off with Matt Forte regarding his contract extension. Roy Williams can't catch a cold. I suppose the Bears have us all right where they want us and are ready to sneak up on the rest of the NFL once again. Or not.

  • Mattay upset talks of new contract have ended. Yeah, I bet he is. Stop listening to your agent filling your head with unrealistic demands Matty. If you don't accept the Bears offer of a reported 13-15 Million guaranteed money plus millions more for the balance of a new deal, you're a fool. You have the opportunity to be a wealthy man for the rest of your life unless you get hurt Sunday. Take the money, put this thing to bed and rest easy until the Good Lord comes to take you home. If you don;t accept the new deal which by all accounts from what I've read was a verrry nice offer, shut your pie hole. So unless you can guarantee the Bears you will lead the league in TD's, total yards and a Superbowl, I don't want to hear it you crying about this until the offseason.
