Bears at Giants Preseason Game Thread

Don't forget to CLICK HERE and vote DaBearsBlog as Chicago's most valuable sports blog.  If the site wins, I'm sure I'll feel better about my life decisions.

Here is what I'm looking at tonight:

  • The play of the edge offensive tackle (Webb, Carimi) against Tuck and Pierre-Paul.
  • Is Roy Williams in shape?  Is any rapport developing between he and Cutler?
  • Will Chester Taylor earn his way onto this roster?
  • Will Vernon Gholston make a play for the roster spot vacated by injured Corey Wootton?
  • Is Kris Adams, an offensive standout against Buffalo, a legitimate threat to make this club at wide receiver?
  • Will Adam Podlesh show some big leg in the punt game?

What are you looking at?

  • Will the Bears be able to protect Jay?

  • I have a feeling Martzie is gonna try some mind games of some type tonight...try to out think the rush. I don't like it. Go get um.

  • Bear football Mr. Martz. Pound it and play tough D. Get to it.

  • If I were Martz, I would run the ball three times on the first drive. Come out on the second drive and throw it a bit. But I'd give my line that first drive to get their footing.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

That's too rational, safe and hum-drum for Martz Jeff.

I do think their actions are going to betray an insight into Bears thinking though, which they try their darndest to hide.

So if they do run, screen, draws, reverse and everything but 5-7 step drops, that will be code for "We DO NOT like our O-linemen, even if our lips say otherwise."

I'm a trial by fire guy, so I may be going against the grain here. I would use a heavy dose of 5-7 step drops (the ones that have worked best in camp).

Why? Same reason the Bears kicked-off from the 30 and not 35 - to truly evaluate what they have - the sooner the better. IF Webb and Louis (or anyone else) crumbles in a meaningless game - time to make a change.

Also, it wouldn't tip our hand when the games are for real.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

MadMartz logic would be to test guys like Webb both for evaluation and to learn from his mistakes. I'd say that that's more important on pass than run plays, since that's where we need to improve more.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:!

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

I'd do the same thing. But on the first drive i would mix it up a little bit. Do some play action stuff after 2 or 3 run plays.

  • If the first play of the game is not a draw, I will be shocked.

I expect to see Taylor get many snaps at RB, and like Jeff, I expect them to run, run, run the ball to get the O-line in a rhythm and get rid of the yips.
I expect Kris Adams is a legit wide-out for us; my question is, what does he do on ST?
I expect to see RW make one catch, and not much else. If he's not in football shape during the week, I don't see how he's going to be in football shape on Monday night.
I will be absolutely glued to what is going on at LT and RG.

And I'll be really curious to see how many snaps Knox gets at WR.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

What about Mr. Fantuz? Mr. Go-up-and-get-it? Shall we see a couple thrown his way or nay?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Fantuz. Tee hee.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Sansenhammacherschlemmer will probably get some run with Cutler and the boys tonight. Don't think Fanutz (Fantuz? WGAF?) will.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Haha, brilliant MBP brilliant!

  • I wouldn't care if Cutler lasts only two drives and he hands it off the whole time. I'll definitely be looking at Webb every snap to see if he's somehow improved dealing with the edge-rushers if they pass it though. And on D, yes, Mr. Gholston looks interesting with his hand on the ground.

If Plaxico was able to show glimpses of his old self against the Bungles, then Roy Williams should certainly be able to do so - as long as he shows up for Jay when it counts .....

Battle of the fullbacks should be interesting.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Everyone has Gholston's odds at 100-1, but I think we underestimate how badly Maranelli wants somebody else to rush the corners and push the QB upfield. With Wooten down, I can see Gholston making this club.

  • In reply to gpldan:

He was certainly given every opportunity to shine in game 1...I agree w. you. I think he's likely to make the roster. He may not last past week 4, but I think he'll be active opening day.

  • If the site wins, I'm sure I'll feel better about my life decisions.

  • Webb vs. Pierre-Paul.

That reminds me, I need to pick up some Pepto-Bismol at Walgreens on the way home...

  • I have to believe in my heart of hearts that Martz is smart enough to run the ball early to get the linemen some confidence. jam it down Pierre Paul and Tucks throat a couple of times and then run some short routes and move the pocket a bit to minimize the chance for a momentum changing sack. it is that simple. A screen pass here and there to keep them honest and we are good to go.

  • I'm just hoping for some improvement and continuity in the OL. I heard on a sports show last night that a rookie free agent DE from Troy State is just tearing Webb up during practices. I'm getting a feeling either Carimi moves over there or we haven't seen the last of Omelet.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Addison looked okay vs. Buffalo. Not sure when/if he'll get to face a #1 oline in the preseason, but you never know.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Yeah, who knows that it says anything about Webb? Maybe the kid was a huge hit by Angelo?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    stop baiting me damn it...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You got your PS3 situation figured out, I see - what games do you have?

  • Just completed our fantasy draft for this season.

    Death From Above-

    Jay Cutler – QB
    Darren Mcfadden RB
    Matt Forte – RB
    Marshawn Lynch – RB
    Miles Austin- WR
    Dwayne Bowe- WR
    Greg Olsen- TE
    Bears D/ST
    Matt Bryant – K

    Braylon Edwards –WR
    Robert Meachum- - WR
    Ryan Fitzpatrick – QB
    Nate Burleson- WR
    Deon Branch- WR
    Ronnie Brown - RB

  • I picked up Lynch too, but in his first pre-sea game, he didn't look all that impressive. Granted, it's only the 1st pre-sea game.

I also don't like one hit wonders HB like McFadden, Foster...with our Oline, you better keep an eye on FItzpatrick lol

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Hey I had to do something when week 8 rolls around. And yeah some of these guys may not repeat past performances, but what else can the Raiders do besides run the ball? They have no other option. I'm stoked I got Forte... I'm in a PPR league and that guy was a stud last year at both running and receiving.

  • Bush is the banger for the Raiders, he steals too much from Fadden and is a good pick in his own right for when Fadden gets injured.

  • I want to see if Henry Melton is for real.

  • SC Dave, Oh yeah? Well fuck you one more time! Nah. You know I'm just playin, bro.

Who I'll be watching. Webb, Cookie, Garza, Louis, Bear-Jew, Spencer, Pringles, Sansenhammacherschlemmer et. al.

  • In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

    Yeah, it's all good man.

  • here's what I hope to see tonight:
    1) opening drive: 3 straight runs by the Barbarian. One of the runs includes him steamrolling over a spindly CB for another 10-yds.
    2) Martz reverting to Mad-Mike in 2nd series by calling 3 straight 7-step drop backs and Cutler running for his life. Tice sees this and gets so pissed he has an on-the-field altercation with Martz and rips his head off. Tice becomes our new O-coordinator and we have at long last a sane and balanced game plan.
    3) Our D-line pummels Eli (... "waaahh...I'm in the same league of QBs as Tom Beiber-Brady and my big brother") Manning into the Jesey shore.
    4) Cutler 40-yd gain on deep slant to RW.

  • In reply to GuinnessPlease:

    +4, mang. +4.

  • In reply to GuinnessPlease:

OK with the public Martz execution; Tice as our new O-coordinator?
    Dear god, no.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

yeah.... got carried away on that one with Tice as O-coordinator. Would be nice to see Martz get a public slap down if he goes on as Mad-Mike and Cutty get's body-bagged again because of it.

  • I want to win.
I want our coordinators to exploit our opponents weaknesses.
I want our OL to play with an assload of intensity.
I want Cutler to throw darts.
I want Williams to catch darts.
I want 4.6+ yards per carry.
I want all of our guys healthy when the final whistle blows.

  • In reply to Viva:

Bears +4.5 tonight is very tempting.

  • In reply to Viva:

  • In reply to Viva:

That last one is by far the most important.

  • I love your heart Viva, but I can't imagine betting on pre-season games. Way too many variables for me.

  • In reply to Crown:

Yeah pre-season betting is... just a little crazy.

  • In reply to Michael L:

    I'm trackin.

  • Folks -

I'm very serious about a DBB Auction draft.

    Anyone interested?

Expect 1-2 hours for the draft length.

I'm thinking either a weekday night (7pm CT) or a weekend day... Any specific time of day or days?

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

The later the better - with a 2 year old, post-bedtime is the best time.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

I know you guys have been doing fantasy for a couple seasons now. Any openings for another team?

  • Hop into this one if you have any interest in the auction method.

You get $200 to fill a squad of 16 players. You can draft whoever you want so long as you have enough dough to back it up. The strategy level is way higher... It's the chess to the snake-draft's checkers.

The league is free, and should be fun. I'll set it up and provide the link tonight.

I'm thinking we'll do a weekday night... that way the wife won't get upset about me wasting a weekend on fantasy football (again). Maybe 9/6/11 @ 7pm CT.

Put those babies to sleep early MBHAP!

Jefe - Why don't you get in on one of these?!?

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

    Count me in.

  • Checklist:

    - Is Iwuh going to relieve me of my LB depth doubt? IF he plays well, we can finally put an end to the whole Tatupu thing - I'd feel more than ok with a good Iwuh and healthy Pisa as back up.

    - Who wants it more - Addison or Gholston, an undrafted FA or a former top 10 pick?...cue the Rocky music.

    - Similar to LB fight, CBs - Jennings, Graham, Moore can in theory settle my nerves, at least until we play the Fudge.

    - Stanzenbacher or Kris Adams?

    - Edwin Williams (the olinemen, not the other one) - does he play well again? We need to stop filling our rosters with Williams not named Wallace!

    - If we can avg 4.5ish again on the run, crank up the bandwagon and make a little room...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Iwuh backs up Briggsy at WLB. WLB and SLB are very different positions. One moves in space much more, the other in our D crowds the line and takes on more run blocks. I see JT Thomas as a true Strong side guy behind Roach.

We're gonna see alot of LBs tonight that none of us have heard much of.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I was watching the NFL yearbook for the 2011 Chicago Bears (Chicago Bears- A Monster Season) and DJ Moore had a pretty good season with some really big plays. This off season I was a bit concerned for the CB position but now I'm looking forward to seeing Moore do even more this season.

  • He's leading tackler so far. I'd love to see Sam Hurd get a run out and set the stall out for himself on O.

  • Hey Crown... here's some research for you lad.

I would never condone this for a married man, but just a look at, you know, new technologies and current strategies:

  • You know what would be wild? Pre-season fantasy football. People could start Nathan Enderle and Chester Taylor. It would be a hoot.

  • Is Stanztoosmall and Kris Adams an either/or thing? Can both of them make active roster?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Definitely either or, and maybe not even that. they could both get cut. I could see us keeping 6 widouts, but surely not 7. Cutler is really taking a liking to Shizen Shlonger. He did a radio interview with him last week and referred to him as our wes welker. I think Cutty is really missing his buddy and only caucasion that he gets to throw to, G-Reg. I'm putting it at 60/40 shizen makes the squad

    roy e

  • This means that Giant cracker Finutz is definitely out.

  • Finutz crackers. Now, butter free.

  • He's our biggest receiver, I'll throw a hissy if they cut him for another midget project.

  • yes Da Coach and sweetness are in there, but you HAVE to check out #17:

...nice number! That was my # in high school. Little bit more love today.

And what' up with the tuxes for your senior shot?

  • Just sayin:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm drooling. Damn you Angelo make a freakin move on a lineman already! Tice really cant be stoked witht he guys he's got even though he's trying to blow rainbows up our asses.

  • The cheese went from being deep at LB to very thin with injuries to Zombo and Brad Jones.

I recommend a heavy dose of smashmouth football when we play em and when they are forced to put eight in the Box, Cutty can torch em with the long ball. Yes my pretty's, it's gonna fun to watch our boys stick it to em this season.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Because Cookie is well known for his pile driver blocking style.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    It's a Zombo Apocalypse.

Thank you, I'll be here all night. Please tip your waitress.

  • During tonight's contest, the side contest will be to craft the best Country and Western lyrics to this story:

  • In reply to gpldan:

Shit. I already wrote the rap verse.

  • Oh, speaking of deadly penile cancer, Al Davis picked up Pryor in the 3rd round of the supplemental draft.

In Oakland, Pryor's OSU transgressions will just be considered part of his pre-camp off-the-field training.

  • In semi related news did everyone see the pile of videos on Youtube of fools actin a fool at the Raiders V Niners game? As I've said for years, the Niners games are way more ghet-o than the Raiders.

Still looking forward to going to the game in Nov!!!

  • Sac, I'll be there myself. Did you figure out if anyone else from here will join(Fres)? We should meet up for a brew pregame or something.

  • No wonder you want to role deep to the game lol

  • Please baby jebus let the Bears stay healthy tonight, I could care less if they win (sorry viva) I just want them to come out of this thing unscathed.

The secondary is an area of focus for me tonight. Major Wright is a confident kid who has playmaking ability, but he may be a liability in coverage. I would love to see Mage deflect a pass or come up with a big INT. I'm not sure how Conte fits in to the situation but I'd like to see a flash of something.

Hopefully Gould starts getting his shit together.

Hanie v. Enderle v. Martz. Who will win, or will they all lose?

Paging Earl da pearl, your table is ready. Let's see some of that talent you showed at Vandy with Jay.

Kellen Davis was kept because he can block, but can he REALLY? Let's see if KD can manhandle a LB or two tonight.

  • Hey, we're actually going to see some live bear football action on tv tonght' here's to that everyone! Other than that I'm just looking to see Cutty not get murdered, if anyone watched the pre-game, those guys did their own crucifixion of him. I think our run game is improved instantly with the addition of the barbarian. Let's see our starting D get a little payback, paint that field with Eli. brrrsss.

  • BIG Toeeeeeeee!

  • ooohhhh... that was a peppers fear boner right there

  • D lookin GOOOOOOOOD!

  • am I the only mo fo in this mo fo?

  • damn louis is slooooow

  • I've missed you my Bear faithful. It's been a long summer for our boys... let's hope they used their time wisely. Bear Down!
    ~Nicole in Indianapolis

  • In reply to CrispieQueen:

    Welcome third Bear lady.

  • BOO YAH! RW baby!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    common with the dropsies mang!

  • nah, I'm here MB.

    Fuckn Williams.

  • Our pass rush doesn't look all that intense thus far

  • In reply to 4ever85:

really mang, I think it looks fucking beastly... punt return on the other hand.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    they're gonna get knox killed

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Some one other than Peppers needs to get pressure.

  • .. and PS: I miss Maynard.

  • anyone else notice tillman starting at LCB?

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    RCB, I mean.

  • wow, is ron turner guest OCing?

  • "Roy Williams is what I thought he was!" In my best Dennis Green impersonation.

  • Martz is saving all the good stuff for when it counts.

He got the DBB memo. Run, Run, Draw, Slant, Run some more.

Roy has NOT looked impressive. Two drops that should have been first downs. Bennett would have.

  • Hey Crispie Queen welcome back.

Peppers looks a man amongst boys out there, what a beast. OK you can take him off the field now. Seriously. And Urlacher too. Please. Thanks.

  • In reply to Shady:

    yeah, no shit.

We know Lach, Peppers, Tillman and Harris are game. Take them out.

  • In reply to Shady:

Hi Shady! My best to you... cheers for a great season (without too much heartburn)

  • nice coverage Iwuh.

I feel much better about our LBs already.

  • hmmmm... our specials aren't lokin all that special so far.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

looking special alright, in the wrong way.

  • nice

  • nice grab devin

  • ok, pay the man

  • Nice effort Matty Forte, great vision.

  • nice block by RW btw... common mang.

Why in thee fuck is forte in right now???? Get the barbarian in there for fuck sake

  • Damn, Martz letting lose!

  • The red zone is clearly an area the Bears still need work in. Why not go for it? Another attempt for Jay would have benefited offense more than a chippy for Robbie.

  • In reply to Shady:

I was thinking the same Shady, but Gould hasn't exactly been sharp lately either and maybe needs a few freebies

  • Hester NEEDS to make those plays. Two TDs possibly.

Culter looking VERY accurate and aware. I'm getting Giddy too.

  • Jaws is sucking Cutler's dick tonight.....nice to hear.

  • btw, the oline is doing a great job so far... and the play.... did that really just happen. Fucken a man.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    MB, is that you? lol

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    I know.. crazy huh

  • Henry Melton did a great job of tackling Urlacher on that last play of the quarter. I think Iwuh got ran over on that play too. Ug-ly.

  • that was terrible

  • Wright can't get juked by Jacobs! WTF. Imagine what AP would do to him.

  • wow, thank goodness we got spencer instead of baas. phew, dodged a bullet there. JHC

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  • Lance Louis is going to make Spencer a starter.

  • See Bears, that's how you apply pressure from more than one man.

  • I'm telling you guys, our Dline is giving Eli too much time.

  • Iwuh is playing a nice game.

  • Bradshaw is a beast

  • 3rd and long conversions, bah!

  • Awkward penalty call there Ron Winters, I guess even the officials need the preseason.

  • On game day, Pisa might be better than Roach, and Briggs obviously better than Iwuh.

These big runs by gmen won't happen when Pisa and Briggs are back in the rotation.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

also our 2010-like goalline won't look the same with the barbarian in. Where is he btw?

  • Man I need a haircut, it looks like I'm sporting a freakin mullet here. Anyways back to football...

  • In reply to Shady:

    Mullet? Say it aint so

  • Our D is looking vulnerable in 3 WR sets.

Not enough pressure up front - Nickel Corner not exactly a shut down corner.

    Not a good combo.

  • cutler looks sharp, williams starts to stink, die O-Line somewhat better in passing than in running situations?

  • Da PEARL!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    There it is.

  • Earl the pearl, and the line is playing pretty good!

  • Bennett > Roy.

    I've seen enough.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    it's early... but +1 tonight.

  • Dare I say... the Cutler makeover is looking good.

  • Good as Gould.

  • In reply to Shady:

Poor Robbie is said to be "depressed" without his Maynard... can ya blame him?

  • In reply to CrispieQueen:

Hey, at least Pat Mannelly is still there working his fundamentals. Robbie has to sac up and make it happen without Maynard this year.

  • Another unconverted 3rd down and FG.

    Looks like last year.

Hester, Knox, Bennett will prob the starting lineup.

Hester inconsistent, Knox too, and Bennett just not as athletic as either. If Bennett had half the athlteticism as Hester, Knox or Roy, he'd be a great WR. Life is unfair, c'est la vie.

  • wtf is up with our middle return?

  • Bring in the back-ups. Leave Roy out there.

  • Martz leaving Cutler out there too. "Convert two third downs, then you can sit"

That's what I'd say. If you can't convert two third downs against backup, ur pathetic.

  • In fairness, it's not Culter's fault his WRs are "faltering"

  • Dave Taub has to be shitting himself right now.

  • In reply to Shady:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

btw, as I said a couple weeks ago... Taub's team's have been declining year after year... I really hope we don't see that continue this year.

And NICE! please jebus keep bennet in vs RW.

  • If Graham can't cover a fade pass against the second team, he ain't gonna be able to do it against Rodgers and CO.

P.S. hate this automatic review for ev score. Ironically, the Megatron ALLEGED td last year may have been responsible.

  • not that worried about all units shitting themselves right now - classic preseason garbage. Glad the oline didn't at all. Couple bad plays and little too much preasure, but all in all pretty pleased. I know 85, yes, it is me.

Our midget corners do worry me a bit. Oh, and super glad we picked up RW instead of plax. Phew.

  • I really like barber man

  • That's what you get Coughlin for calling a blitz on Culter with 30 seconds left in the half you fuckhead.

What if that blitzer landed on Culter's knee?

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    And roughing the passer. Dickheads.

  • Rookie mistake, gotta get out of bounds there Hammackerschlemmer.

  • wow gould looking like sheite

  • At bar. Need another drink

  • This new punt return rule will be the death of us! Takes away our most potent phase. I CANNOT believe when the league called our staff they said they were okay with the change. I would have made a Roe v Wade level type argument for keeping the rule as it was. Good as Gould looks like Good as diarea. He will fuck up a game for us at the end this year. Good to finally see the Martz offense click a bit. Not worried about our porous D. It's still waaaayyyy early. I'm still holding hope out for my boy Bowman when he gets healthy. And MB, I know youre joking at the end of your post. Plax will kill it this year, me and 85forever called it early. We should have got him instead.

  • In reply to Crown:

Yup, Crown and I were steering that bandwagon.

Still early, but damn, Plax looked a lot better than Roy this weekend, that's for sure.

  • In reply to Crown:

actually Crown, I wasn't kidding at all... I would MUCH rather have gotten plax. RW is sucking so far man... not impressed.

  • Does Ditka even keep up with Da Bears anymore?

The running game of the Gmen is only there cuz Briggs is out, and Wright is making his first starts.

The kick-offs are shorted to find out about who can cover. If the Bears can't kick-off from the 30, then this is the alternative that won't happen in the reg season.

Cutler looks very sharp, and their Oline mediocre (which is a compliment to them).

The corner blitz does have to be pick-uped better, by both NEW tackles...geesh.

  • Ditka looking worse than Bears

  • upon further review

    the bears still suck

......and now their special teams unit does too!

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

what was Rodger's Qb rating in the NFC championship game again?

And what is the overall record of BearsVfudge?

  • In reply to 4ever85:

the really wanna talk about that game?

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

didn't answer either question. When you do, then we'll talk.

  • In reply to thebigcheese:

You never answered whether you wore your badger pelt on your shrine visit. We all know you went to Shoneys after to celebrate big.

  • Giants CB Thomas done for season, wow.

  • Thank you to Doc Nitty for a welcome note some weeks ago.

I'm watching the ESPN - NFL crawl for shootings, assaults, sexual abuse, and other felonies committed by players during the pre-season.

Reading Flashpoint and await the D.C. new 52.

Tom Coughlin has framless glasses that make him look like a worried physics professor.

  • Okay... have not read any comments so sorry if I repeat. Based on watching the first half:

    1) Roy Williams does not deserve to carry Earl Bennett's jockstrap, let alone wear the navy and orange. Shut your fucking mouth until you can catch the goddamn football.

    2) Sad to say, but perhaps Martz is not a big upgrade over Turner, and all you long-term folks here know how I hated Ron Turner.

    3) Julius Peppers remains an insane beast.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Did I ever tell you about the time I sold Ron Turner a pair of jeans?

That's not a joke, I actually sold Ron Turner a pair of blue jeans. Seriously.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    I'm with you SC brother.

  • Why is Barber still playing?

It should be Taylor v Bell time.

  • goal line and we can't get it in. Team has the persona of LDL..I Know it's pre but damn we have no fire.....

  • In reply to lobotobear:

    Asiata is garbage.

  • In reply to Shady:

Not watching atm, but how does he differ from the rest of the oline?

  • In reply to Shady:

+1 mange, asiata blows and if he gets even a piece of his dude barber scores

  • I have now seen Paea get pancaked three times. We missed Moffitt.

  • In reply to gpldan:

if Paea is #92 he just got spanked on that long TD run.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

ouch, yeah, Paea looked bad tonight. Really bad.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I do recall Mayock saying Paea had no football instincts and then we drafted him. This year's pool guy. Should have drafted a guard or Leshoure. Looking at our backfield ... a guard, definitely. Not another DT.

  • Looking at the stats, the Bears seem to be doing ok. How's it been so far? The score says the Bears didn't do so well. Help me out fella's. Report card anyone?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

    Offensive line: C

Webb didn't get owned by PP and Tuck, but neither could the Cookie-Garza-LL middle get any sustained run blocking going. Forte's big runs came on screens, it's clear that this is an OL that is going to need to learn to move and pull and trap its' ass off.

We still have no short game, Barber makes not a lick of difference, because we have no interior offensive lineman that do not suck.

RW looks slow off the blocks, slow into his breaks and has bad hands to boot. Yay.

Earl Bennett is a baller and a fixture at the slot until somebody takes his head off.

Cutler looks good on his throws and timing, could use some wideouts other than Bennett who can get separation and catch. Knox did nothing to push himself back onto the first team despite RW sucking.

The 1st D looks good because the mistakes are mental. Pringles just over committed to the run blitz and Jacobs took him to the house. The weak link on 1st team D honestly looks like Roach.

Melton is a serious force as a DT against the pass, but his run D needs work. He's so focused on getting upfield he gets blocked out.

Paea looks like a poor man's Chris Zorich. And that's being kind.

Corey Graham better be a ST stud, and I am hoping for Bowman's return soon. Graham is a terrible isolation corner.

Starsky and Hutch need their Gran Torino, because they look like what they are: a couple of slow white safeties.

Barber runs hard. Real hard. I think he only knows hard. If the run is easy, he turns back into the defense just to have a collision. He also has good hands for a 2nd back.

That's really all. Hanie looked lost again at times.

  • thoughts from the game:

    Cutler looks good
Hester drops balls that would make Cutler look even better
O-line did not make me vomit tonight.
    Barber is a beast
    Waddle 2.0 is a baller

Herzlich is the man. I love a good comeback story and there is nothing more badass than beating cancer, playing with a titanium rod in your leg and playing in the NFL....and picking off a point blank Hanie pass.
Hanie's arm reminds me how fucking huge Cutler's is. I feel better about the offensive line. The punt block and 73yd punt return was brutal though.

  • preseason or not....
    I'm embarrassed.....

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

no worries mang, line played good in first half, cutler sharp, barber beast, forte money worthy, gould solid, d line solid in first half. don't let the scrub score fool you.

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

just take the fact that there was very little pressure on cutler as a huge step forward. i was fucking astounded that cutler actually had time.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

I was actually impressed by the o-line...
    Cutty looked good..
    Roy Williams SUCKS....
    lovin' Barber....
    BYE BYE Chester...
but 1-5 in the red zone..???
fuck that shits gta get better.

  • At least Knox catches the ball..unlike Hester and Williams. Cutler overthrew 2 passes again.

  • In reply to MaddBearfan:

cutler also could have had 15/21 for 200 and a td without the drops. 2 passes??? the kid is sharp.

  • In reply to MaddBearfan:

Cutler only seems to be accurate on lasers. No touch.

  • wow we missed Briggs tonight. Iwuh is just not the same and Roach is no Pisa. October can't come fast enough when we sign Pisa back and he takes his number 59 back from that worthless white linebacker who is wearing it right now.

JT Thomas had some nice plays by the way.

  • another thing that bothers me is that out starters were in for an entire half and we only put 6 points on the board...

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

read my previous post on how the Bears games will turn out.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

    from a previous thread.

    Never mind lol

  • Roy, you are pitiful.

Bennet, you are the diamond in the rough.

Melton, you reminded me of butter tonight.

Peprika, you are exactly what the Dr. ordered when asked for a DE.

Webb, you held your own and now you have to do that for 16 games and do better.
Did Jay actually have time to complete throws?

  • guys, williams has been on the team for 18 days. i'm going to give him at least 23 days before i label him as a piece of shit.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

I think Sam will come through for us bigtime if we just give him a shot.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Bullshit, I think Earl the Pearl and Hester will shine this year.

I think having Williams on the field does something though.. everyone else was pretty open, could I be drinking the kool aid?
