ABOUT THIS WEBSITE...

So yours truly has finally embraced the Twitter craze.  It realistically is becoming the only place on the internet to receive up to the minute updates from the Bears beat writers.  If you're on Twitter, be sure to follow me by CLICKING HERE.  You can also follow the Twitter feed directly on the main page by just looking to the right.  Somewhere over there ----->

INTERESTED IN THE FIRST DABEARSBLOG CHICAGO PARTY?

I know this might seem premature but I know folks face scheduling/financial issues in life and it's best to simply have this information out there and available.

This year we're going to try and have a party to celebrate the community we've built here on DaBearsBlog.  That party will be held on Saturday December 3rd in Chicago. (The Bears plays the Chiefs the following afternoon at Soldier Field.)

Everyone who has spent even a few minutes on this site is invited.  If you're interested, just drop a line me at jeff@dabearsblog.com.  I won't do the event if there's not enough interest in it.  If we do have the party, I'll let you all decide what it is specifically in the months to come.

HOW VALUABLE ARE WE IN CHICAGO?

September 9th ends the Chicago's Most Valuable Blogger Award run by CBS.  Go vote.  Every day.  CLICK HERE.

• I'm working on my list of players to cut. Not sure the Bears feel very comfortable about the situation yet due to the shortened training camp. Idea's anyone?

• In reply to BigDaddy:

I'm not convinced we will not be adding a couple more names to our roster before too long. This has typically been the time of the year that Toub has his way with the roster, and he can't be happy with what he's seen.

• not even going to comment on this boys and girls just putting it out there for you Wednesday chuckle:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/31/cedric-benson-is-already-in-jail/

• In reply to lobotobear:

uggh. so much talent wasted.

• Au contraire!

Based on Vick and Plax's bump coming out the slammer, I would now move Cedben's value UPWARDS in your fantasy league.

This phenomena should have a name. I propose "hole shot" to describe the sudden on-field explosion a player has after leaving the slammer.

• In reply to gpldan:

Damn, wished Benson would have been sentenced b4 the fantasy draft! I have Vick, Plax, and Shaw-Shank Marshall - I def would have picked up Benson for my bench on my all thug FF team!

• In reply to 4ever85:

get bert reynolds as your wideout and you got the mean machine

• Jeff -

If there is going to be a Blog Party in DECEMBER, wouldn't Las Vegas be a better venue?

• In reply to Viva:

Vegas in December... I will be there. You can stay @ the Venetian for half a big of Frito's around the 22nd.

The closer to XMas you go, the cheaper it gets.

• Ah, December 3rd, the day before my wife is scheduled to have the baby. I am envisioning how that argument would play out.....

I'm actually a bit concerned about AA. Calf injuries linger but luckily we have Okoye to fill in.

Looking for Sanzenbacher to play well on Thursday and looking for more out of the special teams crews and out of our new linebackers.

• The Bears better be looking at castoffs to see about a LB, IMO.

• In reply to SC Dave:

agreed. They should have killed whomever Durant wanted dead in the offseason to get him. I like his style, like Roach but good.

• Waffle, take that date, subtract a week for 'as if', knock off two more for 'inconvenient' and have it land on a day you're not around.

A christmas baby is nice though, and you don't have to buy it anything.

Speaking of calf injuries, isn't that what Barbarian has ?

• No love for the Shomer Shabbos posters making your party on a Saturday? I see how it is... Good news is, the sabbath goes out early in the winter, so as long as its an evening party I could try to stop by.

I'm only curious why not have the party during a Bears game? Perhaps try to involve a local pub for a viewing party?

Also, I don't see the twitter feed anywhere over there ------>

And now that I'm not being critical. A few football comments.

(1) I can at least appreciate Ced Benson trying to help out his team by not screwing up a game or even a practice while he's in jail. If only he could have had that thoughtfullness a bit sooner...

(2) Who would you rather pay big money for Chris Johnson or Peyton Hillis? Both are in blue chip contract talks.

(3) I agree Alex Brown would make a great stopgap at DE for a 1 year deal. But don't expect much out of the guy... he wasn't super-productive before we cut him.

• In reply to NewBearInTown:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPo9OBrIOi4

• In reply to NewBearInTown:

maybe he still has a few good bursts a game
how much will he really play ? if he is plying alot it could only mean that we are battling a rash of injuries.
do football teams have the luxury of keeping such a limited use player like a bench bat that can only hit left hand pitching?

i don't think it woulb turn out to be a negative experience
but, i believe a priority is to get some bloodhounds for the special teams. so far it looks like we gutted them after last season. maybe the wolfman who was at the top in tackles last year is back out on the street

hey 4--85 you got wolfman on the prison team

• In reply to NewBearInTown:

"I don't roll on the Shabbos Dude ...."

• So... I posted this on the last thread, and I wasn't lying when I stated that I would be coming at you with this info bi-daily.. or until the league fills up. Do us all a favor and join so that I can stop the insanity -

So far we have 3/10 teams signed up for the FF Auction league.

I will continue to pepper this blog with fantasy football spam for the next week, just in case people don't catch the message!

Standard Auction - $200 salary to spend on 16 players. You want Matt Forte? Spend enough and you get 'em. Want AP, Vick, and Jamaal Charles? Spend enough and you get 'em.

Once you go auction... you purchase a dachsund? You approach snake drafts with caution? You realize it's awesome? Help me out here.

Let it be known that this $200 isn't REAL money. The league is free, but you can donate $200 to an offshore account if need be.

Also, we can use the auction method setup to analyze Reaganomics, the Federal Reserve, laissez-faire economical approaches, and the communist manifesto.

Blogfather - hop in one! Let's see the skills.

• In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

What day is the draft? How would it work if you cant be there for the draft?

• In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

Wednesday, September 7th: 9PM ET

The auto-draft in an auction will automatically bid for you in $1 increments up to an ESPN predetermined value, or your predetermined value if you so choose to edit the list.

I did one last week where a guy auto-drafted and his squad blew everyone else's out of the water because he refused to overpay for the big names, and got a squad full of 3rd rounders for a steal.

• I was really excited to hear about a Blog party, then my wife threw the cold water on it. We go to a TSO show every year with friends of ours, and the show is on Dec. 3rd. It would be very cool to see the people behind the handles.

• In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

No. No it wouldn't.

• In reply to gpldan:

I have no urge to change my handle to "That one drunk guy, he was Willie Gault?"

• In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

don't be silly you two, I'd love to see who all you people are.

of course I would personally come completely in disguise like in jackass or the original pink panther movies (not that disgrace that steve martin crushed the life out of)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhLqUwljMhk

• In reply to MB30SD:

If you're Steve Martin has your career been reduced to money gigs at this point?
Why piss on comedy like that?

• well, he's a fine art collector/owner, and can do this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l31MSpojWTA

but yeah, pretty much all of his stuff after DRS is brutal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqMc9B7uDV8

• In reply to MB30SD:

maybe we could just switch nametags and then see if we could figure out who the hell we really are

will you bring that biting dog

• In reply to huntinbare:

no name tags... they're all on the bar, then we all take turns pinning the name tag on the dude.

Yeah, erik is the only given.

I missed the biting dog joke?

• In reply to MB30SD:

Everyone would walk in, clock Artoo straightaway and be like "Hey Eric!" ...

• In reply to gpldan:

word

• In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

A bunch of World of Warcraft merchants Murph ...except me of course. I look like George Clooney with a ripped body, toothpaste for shite, my farts smell like cologne, and I don't mean 'Hai! Karate!'.

• I'm confused now. Which is the greater number, the amount of guys on the Bengals roster, or the amount of former and current Bengals in prison?

• "I have worked with investors for 60 years and I have yet to see anyone -- not even when capital gains rates were 39.9 percent in 1976-77 -- shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain."

- Warren Buffett, possibly speaking directly to SC Dave

• In reply to gpldan:

It's the spending.

• In reply to SC Dave:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJLDF6qZUX0

• In reply to gpldan:

Can't see that stuff 'til later. If it happens to be Buffet talking about how people should pay more, perhaps it is a little guilt over having held up Bank of America.

http://www.slate.com/id/2302540/

If Warren is so worried, maybe he should just donate some of those sweetheart deal billions to the Treasury. I'm sure his stockholders would be thrilled.

• In reply to gpldan:

what the deal with the creepy photobomber old guy?

• In reply to gpldan:

Fkn A GP. Corporations should pay for the rest of us, I never got how they get the tax breaks and working folk get it up the kazoo.

• Another year.....another chance to not Twitter.

How's it going everybody? This has been a crappy summer and I for one am ready to get back to some Bears football.

Ced Ben in prison? Can't think of a nicer guy to be there.

Peanut (my fabulously named dog) is seven months old now, tall enough to put his face on the dining room table (charming), and more than 100 pounds. I will post a photo if I can figure out how to do it on this 'new and improved' blog I am so fond of.

• In reply to sjvl:

Your dog now outweighs Jimmy. Maybe we could feed him to Peanut.

• In reply to gpldan:

There is nothing this dog will not consume. He even eats tomatoes, which is ridiculous.

• In reply to sjvl:

Then a gnome should not be a problem. Sick 'em, Peanut!

• In reply to sjvl:

that is ridiculous... tomatoes are disgusting (raw).

• In reply to MB30SD:

OH COME ON. Straight off the vine, they are amazing. You know it. You're just giving me crap, as usual.

• In reply to sjvl:

Dis.Gus.Ting.

Seriously, they are the most eeevil things this world has ever known.

Now in a nice meaty Bolognese...

• In reply to MB30SD:

No. Peas and Brussel Sprouts are eeeevil demon weeds. No meat in the world can help them out.

• In reply to sjvl:

two of my favs... I love pretty much all veggies (although technically tomatoes are a fruit i guess), cept for maters and eggplant... that creepy purple shit is an alien invention.

• In reply to sjvl:

Welcome back! With you on the twitter thing... I do enough stupid shit on this blog as it is.

• In reply to SC Dave:

Thank you! I am just back from Chicago and ready to go.

• In reply to sjvl:

Sarah Jane Victoria Lynn !! Missed you girl ! Back in time for the Atlanta Asswhupping we're going to lay down.....

• I vote for a party in Cali. (I hate Vegas and I was just in Chicago) Or we could just do Cabo... it's lovely in December and the Riu is the sht!

• Just made a $100 bet with a douchebag cowboy fan for best record. God I hate the fucking cowboys. America's team my sweaty nootsack. Name the time and place for a blog party and I am there. We should try to get some bar to sponsor it so we can get some free booze and shit. Maybe get Kap Kaplan and CSN Chicago can pop on by so I can rub Kaps bald dome and kick him in the nuts. Happy Wednesday, fuckers.

• I will fly out just to see that DaCoach is a real fucking person and not some character that was dreamed up by Hunter S. before he blew his brains out... fucking publishing company's will do anything to generate revenues you know.

I'm in Coach!

• i had an old boss who was a texan
he used to leave early in the week to fly to cowboy games
he was supposed to be in a conference, but the boys were playing and he left the state
oops....the brass found out and he started in on an early retirement
no more cowboy boots lookin over my shoulder

• Easy money Coach. Easy money. If we get Levi installed at LG it's all gravy .....

• Who is dumber:
Terelle Pryor
or
Chris Johnson?

Pryor is sporting a Wunderlic score of 7. SEVEN?!?
CJ decided to tweet his fans to tell them to STFU.

I call it a push.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

This CJ thing is getting ugly. Glad I wasn't able to pick him in FF!

Frank Gore got a solid deal, and I think the Bears are trying to sell Forte on that deal as a model, and not the D. Williams contract.

• In reply to 4ever85:

CJ may be crazy like a fox; it certainly increases the odds of him getting moved.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Are you serious Brownie? A 7? What classes was he taking at OSU? Thumb twiddlin? How to wipe your own ass? Dexter Manley scored higher than a 7 and he couldnt read! Damn!

• In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

If you tied a pencil onto a nodding donkey it would score higher than a 7. I thought Dan Marino was dumb ....

• In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

I think they run an EEG on you if you score below a ten.

Shit, I've passed gas with higher brain function that that.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

OTOH, he didn't tell his fans to f-ck off over twitter.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Touché!

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

yet

• This is a very good in-depth article on who will make the 53 man roster.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-roster-battles-remain-in-bears-preseason-finale-20110831,0,4706185.story?page=1&utm_medium=referral&track=rss&utm_campaign=br_bears&utm_source=twitter.com

I say cut Harrison's fat ass. We have Melton, AA, Paea, Toe, which is more than enough, and Harrison won't help us out in SP teams.

And no, I don't want Alex Brown. Like him, but he started all games last season and still only had 2 sacks. That's ONE more sack than Wooten, except Wooten's 1 counts as 10. We need PRESSURE on the QB, and if we have to risk it by gambling a bit on Wooten or a UFA, so be it. Worst case scenario, Melton can kick back out.

I expect a LB special team bad ass or DE speed rusher cast off by another team to land in Chi.

• In reply to 4ever85:

Harrison can plug the run and didn't look bad against Titans 2nd string - not that it says much. Flatbread sucks. I say move flatbread to the practice squad and keep that chunker Harrison.

Biggsy says Wootwoot has plateau'ed. If so, we will have to be using Melton as an end in some situations. I hope Wooten can come back and contribute something this season.

• In reply to gpldan:

Harrison is done. I bet Mario Addison beats him out for the last spot. Paealla has been a disappointment thus far. He hasn't shown me anything.

• In reply to Crown:

Luckily, Okoye looks good - typical JA. Bad draft pick bailed out by an FA signing.

Although I still hold out hope for Paea, but he did not look impressive at all.

• In reply to Crown:

Paella has been a disappointment from his drafting, in that he was, by us.

• In reply to gpldan:

I'm not sure Wooten has plateaued like Briggs claims. By most accounts (knowing how the Bears pass out the kool-aid), Lovie, Marinelli, and even Pep (who doesn't say much) all raved about Wooten finally getting back his explosiveness, until he got injured.

I'm very curious to see if UFDAs DEs Addison or Reed made an impression. If either sticks out manana, then I think we'll sign him. If not, then maybe Brown becomes more of a possibility.

It's important to remember though that Brown will not contribute on SP teams, while Addison or Reed will, which is usually the tie-breaker. That is unless we want Melton or Wooten to continue on SP teams, which is risky.

Flatbread = Paea? lol He did get rolled over, but ANY second round pick stashed into the practice squad will IMMEDIATELY get snatched up. See LeFevour debacle last season...

• In reply to 4ever85:

correction, Biggs saying that Addison has "plateaued", not Woot-woot, which makes more sense.

• In reply to 4ever85:

I would really like to see woot-woot do the same to Radgers this year. It would be a cool calling card for him if it's all he does in the nfl.

• In reply to MB30SD:

I second that.

• In reply to 4ever85:

You want Tim Shaw?

• In reply to MB30SD:

The whole reason they dropped Shaw was because they consider Iwuh as good on ST and Iwuh actually fit the defense whereas Shaw did not.

Anyway Shaw isn't available is he? Unless he gets cut, in which case I suspect they might consider him as they no longer have 3 strong LB backups this year.

• In reply to Michael L:

I was just playing around Mike. See below.

• In reply to MB30SD:

It's all cool...

Man I can't wait for the season to start...

• A seven!

• In reply to gpldan:

That's what Jim Tressel did to the OSU football program!

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I equate a decade of Big 10 dominance ending in utter NCAA shame like marrying Stephanie Seymour in her prime. She was utterly nuts but you knew she rocked it in the sack, and you knew it was going to end expensively and with much bitterness, but while the getting was good - it was VERY good.

• In reply to gpldan:

that made me giggle.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

wow. dude is almost as smart as a bag of fucking claw hammers... which got a 9.

• In reply to MB30SD:

and yes, I used 'which' for a bag of claw hammers (if you were looking for the irony in my post).

• Wow, he DID tell them to STFU

There are still people on that silly fluorescent light bulb shtick?

Was that Tim Shaw?

• I am on the phone with Direct TV - telling them how ludicrous it is that three weeks later, I (a prospective new customer) am having to call them over and over again to BEG to have service started.
How bad do you want my money? Not bad enough to f-cking care to send out a tech with a truck, evidently.
This is retarded.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I concede defeat. Direct TV - you are absolutely worthless.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

three words for you MBP...

• In reply to MB30SD:

P

• In reply to MB30SD:

S

• In reply to MB30SD:

3

• In reply to MB30SD:

...that was 3, right?

• In reply to MB30SD:

I know - but that's 3-fitty just for the ticket. I wanted to go to Direct TV b/c it saved money vs. Cox -and- the ticket came free.

So f-ck me running. I think I'll be spending lots of time at the local gin joints this fall.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Is it that much more expensive to get games directly from the NFL across the internet Mike?

• In reply to IrishSweetness:

You can't get games directly from the NFL over the net unless you live outside the US.

Although if you do, it's actually cheaper than Sunday Ticket... only $200 for a single team and $250 for all the games.

• oh, right. there's that.

• Okoye - was poised to excel in the Bears 4-3 at Tackle as Tommie Harris pre-injury......so naturally we're going to try him at end.

http://www.chicagofootballtalk.com/blog/grading-chicago-bears-offensive-line-in-game-3-of-preseason

• In reply to IrishSweetness:

nice breakdown. i like Roy.

• Cutty can make this guy a 1000 yard receiver:

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/7392611-606/hes-a-football-player.html

I said it 2 years ago. All this guy does is make plays.

Bennett's too slow, then he returns a punt for a TD
Bennett's not big enough, then he drags 4 guys 10 yards
Bennett's not quick, then he catches a ball 3 steps into his route over the middle and darts past linebackers
Fucking fearless. Give that man the ball 10 times a game. he didn't drop one pass last year. Not one pass.

• If Bennett doesn't have 7-10 catches per game and Forte doesn't have 5-10 then we are pissing away opportunities to fucking dominate teams and win the first down game and ball possession.

No linebacker can cover Forte. Forte can make catches that most running backs can't. Forte is a 6'2 220 receiver.

Bear Down. 12-4 and the pundits and beat reporters can pound fucking sand yet again.

• Heya Waffle, I agree with the sentiment and I love the enthusiasm.

I think you might be setting the bar a bit high though. If Bennett doesn't have 112-160 (mean 136) catches this season, and Forte doesn't have 80-160 (say 120), then I wouldn't say they pissed away opportunities. Those are record-setting career-type seasons...

Heck I'm not sure a back has ever had 100 catches in a season, let alone 120. If there was, they probably didn't have a teammate that also caught 136 balls.... But yeah, that would be pretty cool.

• Good point Waffle - if we featured Forte and Bennett in the passing game we could break teams' backs just with those two before really rubbing it in with a bit of Kellen and a dash of Devin.

• Been on the bandwagon with you from Day 1, Johnny. Despite the clammoring for a "#1 receiver", it has been my opinion all along that Earl is the guy to get the ball to.

Just do it.

• My man Cutty coming into his own:

Artoo! Young padawan, where have you been son?

• I was going to ask where the hell has erik been. You still alive mang?

• oh, and hell yes on the pearl johnny.

• I'm with Waffle on the Blog Party. Unless any of you are real doctors and want to deliver my boy at the bar? It wouldn't be right if all the blog regs made it to the first one, anyway. We need to give something for people to look forward to the second one.

As for the I Bleed Navy vs. SC Dave racism debate. The final tally is in. The winner, by disqualification, SC DAVE!!!! Navy had Dave on the ropes with his personal knowledge of Islam and Judaism but lost sight of his goal with this verbal-ear-bite: "Sometimes, Dave, you've just got to call a spade a spade" Forgetting that his battle was against Racism and not actually SC DAVE, Navy resorted to an oft-avoided expression due to it's racist associations (From Wikipedia: The phrase predates the use of the word "spade" as an ethnic slur against African-Americans, which was not recorded until 1928; however, in contemporary U.S. society, the idiom is often avoided due to potential confusion with the slur). Proving that sometimes people are racist even when they don't mean to be. It'st the product of the fucked up PC world we live in. So nice effort Navy, But you can't fight Racism with Racism.

I like Alex Brown. But that ship has sailed.

My boy started kindergarten today. I may have shed a tear.

Hell hell yes on the pearl Johnny.

4 days until Falcons week!

• In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

I chose not to point that out, although believe me I was tempted.

• In reply to SC Dave:

nice show of restraint dave. And by the by, I agree 100% with you on the spending piece… although it’s only part of the puzzle. It's one of the big things that is wrong with our system.

These politicians are ALL a bunch of useless fucking leeches. They know that getting a gig is a life-long meal ticket paid for by you and me. We desperately need to change the system to get rid of all corp/org funding and support vehicles so that these idiots get ‘paid’ for their vote, shorten terms, make pensions MUCH more reasonable, and come up with a civilian spending oversight body that has zero interest in where money is spent, other than to save the tax payers trillions.

I bet if you formed that body and had audit control of all existing and future budgets we would be able to very easily cut TRILLIONS from gov spending, tighten up entitlements, healthcare, etc...

I look at people like harry reid, boner, pelosi and I want to fucking puke. Except when boner cries, then I laugh and puke at the same time.

• In reply to SC Dave:

Dave, are you black mang?

• In reply to SC Dave:

Point out what?

Are you trying to say that you "took the higher ground" by not accusing me of racism?

Bullshit.

You're covering and obfuscating.

• In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

I'm not looking forward to the day that I drop off my girls at their first institution either Doc The seperation trauma must be intense, I know my own mother recounting my first days here and there were gutwrenching. Me being so awesome n all ... :o)

Do you guys all somehow know what color everybody is on the blog?

I get the 'tribe' comments, but then forget who made them. I know MB is Jewish, maybe Crown? but I wouldn't have a clue who was black/white. I am curious about that though - I know it doesn't matter, but it's part of our makeup, right? We're curious creatures. Maybe that's the good thing about internet relationships and communities, that it doesn't start with pre-conceived ideas based on race or whatever.

How would anybody know SC Dave was black? Are you, Dave? I've been on this blog a year or two and haven't got a clue who might be black or white or blue or brown ....

Our Islamic brothers and sisters do get a rough time on here though and it seems to be generally accepted ... like it's not racism if the party in question are Muslim, which equally sucks. They are a peaceful people who forego alcohol and the excesses of the West, and I can understand that there are things Westerners see in Islamic culture that they do not like also, such as the treatment of women etc. but mangs, they're people who love their kids and their families and laugh and cry just like everyone else. It's only an illusion that any of us are seperate from each other, truly it is. We are all just different facets of the one conciousness, we're all just drops from the same incredible ocean of life that exists. That helped me to deal with losing my dad recently, knowing that (or at least just believing) that he was just returning to that great ocean in the sky and that we'd join up again one day and somehow communicate the awesomeness of the trip we'd had.

It really upsets to me to see so much hatred in the world, and huge groups of people hating other huge groups of people over the silliest most inconsequential reasons that don't even stand up to any rational investigation whatsoever. I try to look at how similar people are from wherever they are, especially in airports where you see all kinds of folk, instead of how different we are - because we've all got being human in common. And on here we've got something else too, we all love the Bears, for whatever reason, and we all have different opinions, creeds, backgrounds, whatever, but somehow we all manage to share the same space without much hating spewing back and forth, and that's a very cool thing ....

Having said all that .... sober and spliff-free .... I really and truly do hate Jerry Angelo and his stupid fkn cheesy grinning head.

Carry on my wayward Bears.

• In reply to IrishSweetness:

Amen on Jerry Angelo. Even if he drafted like Finks, I'd still hate him. His arrogance this year turned me from having no strong feelings about him to hating his ballsack-textured face.

• In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

This is what I get for being away from the internet for a whole day.

As I posted in... one of these other threads (sheesh, this site redesign makes it hard to find posts), although I wasn't using the phrase purely for the irony, I thought it was pretty fitting. Considering that Dave's knee-jerk reaction was that I was obviously an Obama supporter, and Obama supporters always cry "racism" when any criticism is directed his way, I left it out there as bait--because the phrase "calling a spade a spade" is by no means racist, regardless of how you feel about the word "spade."

Regarding the appropriateness of the phrase's usage in contemporary English, let me tell you what I tell my students: don't trust anything that only cites a single source--especially when it's Wikipedia. Because the sole source cited about the appropriateness of the idiom is a British guy who wrote a book. Doing a wee little bit of googling comes up with several other sources who say nothing about the idiom being problematic.

Long story short? It's only sketchy if you read into it, which is exactly what SC Dave was accusing me of in the first place.

My question still stands unanswered: SC Dave, why did you call Obama a dhimmi? If you don't like him and don't think that he's a good president, why not call him a dummy instead? What were you trying to say by calling him a dhimmi?

• Forte seems to be turning his nose up at a 15 Million dollar guaranteed offer from the Bears. It's more than Gore's and Bradshaw's deal.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/01/report-bears-offer-to-forte-is-15-million-guaranteed/

• In reply to BigDaddy:

If true, and a four year deal, it looks more than reasonable, actually. Maybe the Bears are expected six years for that kind of a guarantee, which would also be fine so long as the salary and incentives are okay.

• btw, truely enjoyed the discussion last thread. great stuff by knowledgeable dudes.

Speaking of waffle, I read this headline and had to laugh: "baby born outside waffle house"... http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/08/31/dnt.baby.waffle.house.wkrc?hpt=hp_t2

• In reply to MB30SD:

Maybe call her Belgiana...

and how the hell do you not no you have a kid in you..O.K. Dad's ask you wives if the never felt pregnant when they were pregnant

• Unga is officially on the Reserve roster now.

• In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I don't get this... again? Why ar we keeping him?

• In reply to MB30SD:

He was Angela's supplemental draft pick and cost us a fourth rounder in the collegiate draft. Angela's ego again.

• In reply to IrishSweetness:

No, he cost a seventh rounder. Come on man, there's no ego here.

Anyway all this means is that he does not count against the roster limit (of 75, soon to be 53) until they decide what to do with him. It also means Unga cannot be paid while on the list.

So Angelo may have a big ego, but that has nothing to do with anything here...

• In reply to Michael L:

Seventh? My bad, sorry. That's no bad then.

• and btw.......Double Deuce...$15mil really your going to snub that..WTF!

• In reply to lobotobear:

NFL RBs get one shot at a big payday... this is his. Reason goes out the door Lobo. Can't say I totally blame him for trying based on some of his peer's deals.

• In reply to MB30SD:

I know MB but:

ProFootball Talk:

There’s no word on the length of the deal or the total value, so it’s tough to gauge how that offer compares to other recent contracts for running backs. Frank Gore got $13.5 million guaranteed for a three-year deal with the 49ers. Ahmad Bradshaw got $9 million guaranteed for a four-year deal with the Giants. DeAngelo Williams got $21 million guaranteed for a five-year deal with the Panthers.

and as for paying DA I think Panthers didn't want to loss any more Stars...dipshit's............... he ain't worth that.

• In reply to MB30SD:

He saw Larry Fitz get wedged up and thought "show me the money".

• uh, wow?
