The Bear Jew, Anthony Adams, Nick Roach Agree to Terms

  • Let me be the first to express my happiness!

  • OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
    Offensive line NOW, not #16.

  • In reply to Crown:

    I like it Crown

  • Think Gabe would sign a baseball bat?

  • Yes OLine now. I,m getting nervous.
Forte hasn't signed yet has he?

  • In reply to MonkeyNuts:

    Forte isnt a free agent....

  • In reply to Urlacher FTW:

... and he HAS reported to camp.

  • In reply to MonkeyNuts:

Sign what? He's under contract through next year. Forte is at practice 'cause he knows what's up ....

  • OL baby, bring me some hogs. Finish it out Angelo you greasy prick. Just address the actual holes and don't go out and grab 2 DL. Just get a guard and a tackle and we are in a decent position.

  • of course...but he was threatening to hold out..however it appears that he has arrived at camp today.

  • In reply to MonkeyNuts:

Forte was threatening to hold out or there were rumors to that end?

It really would make no sense for him to hold out at this point.. he is probably the most under the radar top 10 back in the league and fits Martz system like a glove, I can't imagine he would be worth more to any team than he is the bears; so it would be really silly to hurt your value with the team that values you most.

  • In reply to MonkeyNuts:

    But what would he sign?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    an extension I am assuming.

  • Manning is gone and I hope someone steps up to play that position good. Does any one know the player to be named later from Carolina? Jimmy Clausen?.........lololololol........GO BEARS!!!!

  • In reply to #16 Bears Fan:

    What player?

  • In reply to #16 Bears Fan:

He's just playing in character, that's all Irish.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/28/bears-trade-greg-olsen-to-panthers/related
Just reapeating what I read about the trade. A trade of a third round pick and an un named player......so not playing "in character" thinking you are the character......lolololo..........Go Bears!!

  • OMG I think if they sign a decent Guard, I may spooge.

    I mean:
All draft pick signed - check
    WR size problems - check
Special Teams specialist backup WR needed - check
Manning, manofmoola, rasheeeed gone - check
Cutler's BFF TE that can't block and Cutler looks to so often he doesn't do his reads; gone AND getting something in return - check

Hell it isn't officially signing time yet , people have been whining about Olsen for 2 years, whining about no size at WR for 2 years, whining about 6 TEs all last year... solved -- solved -- solved.

They have one (two if Kreutz walks) major area of concern now on the OL... And they have several prospects there and one of the best OLine coaches in the business. I am excited as hell.

  • In reply to Urlacher FTW:

Need at least two more OL; three if Olin leaves.

Jury is definitely out on the WR thing, but at least they tried (sort of). I'm hopeful that Roy Williams will prove me dead wrong about him being the wrong choice.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

The jury is out on the Jets giving Santonio Holmes $10 million a year, pick any signing and the jury is out. We got two good, big receivers for nothing, and they won't break the bank. Hurd is only 26 to boot. I'm stoked.

We've got guards on the bench that can play but we don't have a left tackle -or more worryingly - a center. We really are pooched if Olin deserts us.

  • In reply to Urlacher FTW:

Thank you FTW. About time someone else can see what I saw in Olsen.

  • All for nothing if we don't solidify the O/Line. Get a move on and sign someone

  • In reply to MonkeyNuts:

    http://www.aolnews.com/2010/10/15/o-line-em-up-sacks-allowed-stats-for-each-and-every-team/

Interesting take on the sack leaders, assigns sacks to QB play calls and some other neat things I like. According to it Clabo allowed just as many sacks as Omiyale and didn't even give his QB as long as Omelette did on those sacks.

  • In reply to MonkeyNuts:

you can't have a pro bowler at every fng position, hell the packers were wanting their LTs head on a platter in 2009 and then this season he goes to the probowl.... This offense started to click later in the year with a balanced attack and some chemistry n the line. Improvements in the offense are improvements. Roy Williams knows Martz offense and put up awesome numbers in it with Kitna throwing him the ball behind one of the worst Olines ever and no threat at RB.

  • The Forte flutter does highlight our lack of depth at the position. Am I alone on here in thinking we should have drafted Leshoure instead of Paea when the best RB in the draft fell to us at 53 ?

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I got good feelings about Paella Irish.

On the RB front, I would cut Taylor and his 1.5 mill he's owed this year and pick up Marion Barber who I think we could get on the cheap.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Yes.

Sort of. I don't like our current backup and would like to see Taylor moved to make way for a true bruiser at RB...cut him if we have to, but get somebody in that has tread on the tires.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Got a good feeling about the strong Tongan Irish.

And MBP, I posted the same sentiment but it didn't go through. Cut Taylor and his 1.5 mill he's owed and pick up Marion Barber. He can be had on the relative cheap. Problem solved.

  • In reply to Crown:

I think it was our line Crown, I'm not giving up on Chester just yet. And we've got the other Tongan in there at FB don't we? I'm sure they'll get us a decent OT ... they have to .... and what's up with Olin? LIkely he wants the boat drinks contract and the Bears want to take it year by year.

  • In reply to Crown:

Agreed - that was my sentiment as well. Barber would be a serious upgrade over Chester.

  • OLine please!!!!! C´mon JA!!!! I hate you so much!!!!!!

  • Every year Jerry fades on the back stretch. Lets hope Martz threatens him with castration if he doesn't sign a quality guard and tackle/utility lineman.

  • What kind of money did the BEar Jew bring?

  • And what about Stacy Andrews? He was released from Seattle and seems like he'd be a good backup...He's only 30 @ 6'7 330 i think Tice would love him.

  • Check out nfl.com. Rob Ryan looks like Rosie O' Donnell in a bad wig. Are the Jets serious? $30+ million a year on your corners? No way Asomugha is going to a place where Revis comes over to his side of the field and says "Move brother."

  • The more i think about it, if you have been on a team for 13 years and they kept you around and pandered to you while you were injured and sucked balls at your job and then you actually left when you got healthy when your team was about to make a run for the superbowl and did it over money you are a huge douchebag.

  • so who's left (of interest) on the oline?

  • And what about Stacy Andrews? He was released from Seattle and seems like he'd be a good backup. He's only 30 @ 6'7 330 i think Tice would love him

  • It's Friday at 6:00PM EST. Camp starts tomorrow...

...and there have been exactly zero FA oline additions.

Here are FAs who are left:
    Centers: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?positionId=4&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl%2ffa%3fpositionId%3d4

    OT: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?positionId=46&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl%2ffa%3fpositionId%3d46

    Guards: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/fa?positionId=45&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnfl%2ffa%3fpositionId%3d45

Can that be right? Only one FA Guard left? I know there may be others who have been released, etc… but that’s it?

    I read that incorrectly right?

  • Whats the name of the Guard leaving TEN?

  • In reply to Shady:

    Shea-di

  • In reply to Shady:

    Jeff hansen

there are a few guards in this group, but they're sloppy seconds... just what we need more of: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6814188/nfl-cuts-roundup

  • Horn, Asiata, Louis, Garza, CW ... do we need another guard as badly as we need a LT?

    Asomugha to philly ....

  • WOW: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6816873/nnamdi-asomugha-agrees-five-year-60-million-deal-philadelphia-eagles-source-says

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Fucking Jets.... we should steal Brunell from that asshole. He'd be the perfect vet back up (as I said last year).

"To make room for Asomugha and other free agents, the Jets re-worked the contracts of running back LaDainian Tomlinson, linebackers Calvin Pace and Bart Scott and guard Brandon Moore. On Friday, the Jets released backup quarterback Mark Brunell, but they intend to re-sign him at a lower salary."

  • In reply to MB30SD:

why do you guys keep talkn bout back ups? obviously Caleb Hanie has proven he's a legit back up since he almost beat the faggots in the NFC title game, prolly would have if we didn't have to sit thru a quarter of the gottdamn "Todd Collins Experience".....

Caleb Hanie is our (backup) quarterback. (in my Lovie Smith voice)

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

Always been a fan of Hanie, even during last year when Martz kept blabbering on about bringing a vet. He proved himself to me during his rook pre-season. The second old-timey Collins came in during the NFC Championship, I knew it was over and yelling for Caleb the whole goddamn time black and white Todd was getting raped out there. Everyone thought I was a clarvoyent when Hanie finally came in. At that moment, I thought I could help help the Bears more than Martz. He missed this issue the whole year and it cost us in the biggest game.

LG Leroy Harris is possibly available.

BTW Nnamdi moving to Philly ain't good news for Da Bears and the rest of the NFC.

  • In reply to Shady:

No biggie for us, at least not yet. When you have no "true #1" that you rely on too much, then a shutdown corner does not mean much. So he shuts down Johnny Knox - b.f.d.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

Johnny boy will be returning kicks this year, can't believe he's going to get near the offense if talent has anything to do with the depth chart.
    It'll probably end up :

    1. Roy.
    2. Hurd/Hester split wide and splitting looks
    3. Bennett
    4. Knox

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I don't think Skunk is a better receiver than Jackass.....

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

Fantuz is probably better than Knox. Everybody is better than Knox.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Uh, Irish, Knox put up double the numbers of your boy Roy last year in his second year. And as someone who saw his speed in person at the Minnesota game - he absolutely kills with his speed. He is easily the most likely of our receivers to have a 1300 yd year.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

In support of your perspective, Posse, I'll drop my favorite Reagan soundbite (although John Adams wrote it some time earlier in a larger context):

    "Facts are stubborn things"

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Facts are stubborn things, ain't they?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

+1. Knox's speed will shine this year. I'd take him over skunks 5 yard slant and then drop to the ground any day of the week.

  • mebane gone: http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/42442/brandon-mebanes-return-big-for-seattle

    you still sleeping Jerry?

  • Sean Jensen
#Bears re-signed LB Nick Roach to a two-year deal worth $4.5 million, including $2 million to sign, according to source

  • Who doesn't love a good second chance story?

Gholston has been terrible in the 3-4, but perhaps a change of scenery and another 5 lbs can help turn him around.

  • In reply to Shady:

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-looking-to-bring-in-former-6thround-pick-gholston-20110729,0,1381747.story

  • In reply to Shady:

Gholston sucks. The Jets know defense and he was not as advertised, hence they're airlocking him.

Fres - you won't be missing Olsen when Kellen does his thing with all those extra looks. Olsen was a waste of space.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

The Jets used Gholston mainly as another LB instead of DE. Yes, he's been a bust thus far, but I think he was in the wrong system. His athleticism is worth taking us taking a shot if we can him on da cheap.

  • In reply to Shady:

Well, it can't hurt to take a look at him, so long as it does not prevent:
    a) signing 3 OL (Kreutz can be one)
    b) paying Matt Forte; extending him now is the right thing to do IMO

  • In reply to Shady:

Not a 6th round pick he was the 6th pick of the first round. GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to #16 Bears Fan:

    GO BEARS!!! Hahahahhahaha

  • In reply to Shady:

I think if anybody can make him worth a fuck it's Hot Rod...

  • Still missing Greg Olsen. Only two other TEs had more TDs than Olsen in the past couple years. Sigh....

  • Me too, Fres, me too.

But more missing the three good OL we need.

Is that K Davis on the right of picture 10 here?
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-110726-bears-training-camp-2011-pictures,0,328824.photogallery

Whoever it is looks rather like some form of beast.

  • In reply to SC Dave:

    Thats pez dispenser Wooten dave

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm out of his way, that's for sure,

  • In reply to SC Dave:

I thought Olsen was really coming along last year as a blocker. Oh well, it indicates the brain trust is planning on keeping Mikey around for awhile and had no plans on resigning GO this year.

As a huge proponent of KD for the last two years, I'm really excited about seeing him get a significantly higher number of snaps. Spaeth will make a difference in heavy formations and I think he's going to pan out.

Now about those O-linemen. I guess all I can say is, there's still some time left in this game.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I'm with you on all fronts today MBP. Olsen really proved to me that he could learn how to be a pretty good blocker by the end of a year. What a fuckin waste. For a 3rd rounder. Our roster is much worse without him and a 3rd than with him. Trying to forget. Moving on. FUCK!!!!!

  • Man, it seems like everyone is looking for a guard? We're set at tackle? Really? Y'all are happy with a 7th round pick who moves like a mummy covering Cutler's blind-side? He's terrible - I mean really very bad - he's not even an average tackle .... he cannot pass block in any recognisable way. You guys really want him over Chris Williams - a first round pick who copmpletely owned Jared Allen one on one? I'm more than happy with Asiata/Horn/Louis filling the guard positions with Garza in the competition in camp.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Tice obviously disagrees on the guard situation. But yes, we absolutely need another tackle for the left side.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Y'all? Really? Really?

  • In reply to Shady:

    LMFAO

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Jesus irish... there's a reason those dudes didn't play man.

And fuck no... we need one of each AND a center mang!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Inexperience. Asiata has only played football for like five years. Tice loves Horn (mwah!), and Louis is a mauler. No need to send out the troops looking for guards, but tackle is a whole other ballgame. Why the loss of love for CW and the boner for Webb - I don't get it.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Asiata's man-tits have played football for at least seven years.

And how the fuck is that your argument for why he's the answer at Guard?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Cookie SUCKED last year - he enticed us all with about three good games at the end of 2009. And then he got dunked in milk. He was TERRIBLE at LT in the first few games of 2010. TERRIBLE.
Please, if you can stomach it, go watch him get owned by every 3-4 OLB or end that lined up against him.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Webb proved more to me at tackle last year than Puff Williams will ever at that spot. Keep puff at guard. That's all he'ss ever be. Webb has good feet for a massive elk of his size. I think J'Mart is going to solidify that spot this year. I have faith in him, but none in the softy 1st rounder.

  • Sean Jensen
#Bears announce signing of DE Vernon Gholston, the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. Here is a project player for Rod Marinelli

  • In reply to Norwegian Bear:

    Well that was fast.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Indeed

  • In reply to Norwegian Bear:

    B.U.S.T.

Jerry angelo fucking special norwi... he's cheap, but he's fucking terrible.

  • In reply to Norwegian Bear:

DE? He's a linebacker and he SUCKS !!!

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

We agree - Vernon Gholston? What the hey? Jerry, what position do you think he's going to play? Long snapper?

  • FUCK CHICAGONOW.

I just wrote a long post, my first one in several hours, and the site told me to slow down. I go back, and my post is gone.

I refuse to post--or to even visit this blog--until this issue is fixed.

  • It has always been the best plan, when composing posts, to write them in a text editor and the paste & post. Saves much frustration on blogs everywhere.

  • Ilbear... please explain to the class what happened in the game (can't remember which) where curry then janie went down (I think I blocked it out of my mind).

We've picked up zero proven olinemen so far... we're going to need a back up for our back up dude.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Fucking autocomplete...

    Cutty and hanie of course

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    I totally agree...
I'm begging for a guard and tackle jus like the next man...
so we dont have to free up roster space for 7 qb's....
I was simply saying there should be no question that Hanie is our no. 2

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

    100% with you there.

I was saying we're gonna need more than 2 qbs if we don't get a real line... fast.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

it's sad that we are not addressing the main problem on the team. Cutler won't make it through the year with this shit fucking o line.

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

That's why Angela signing a project at QB made zero sense. If our first two guys go down you've got no-one to lead your team. Having no vet QB on the roster is insane.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

After we signed Todd Collins, do you really think our scouting on vet QBs justifies the waste of a roster spot.
I used a period because that's not really a question.

  • Guys relax...FA is just getting started. As always, the Bears will try and find value at OL and pick through everyones scraps. And like always, they will probably suck

  • Fuck me and the avatar I rode in on. Back in Bears mode now. I thought JA was trying to get the Saints LT Bushrod or Bushmills or Pushrod whatever the fuck....we need a LT people. Man, this new site is a PIA to type from phone.

  • So the Eagles have two great starting corners now.

Unfortunately Nnamdi doesn't have much touch on the deep ball. And when Vick gets a broken leg in Game 3 this year, their season will be over.

  • Sims-Walker is a Ram

  • In reply to Joseph:

Damn, STL is having a good week.

  • In reply to Joseph:

    FUCCCCKKKKKK.....

  • Like I said b4, a lot of the pick ups aren't sexy, just solid and full of cheap upside.

Gholston. Love this signing. He was never a 3-4 linebacker and at 6'3 260 he provides versatility and depths at both LB and DE. Marinelli will whip his ass into a frenzy.

Spaeth For better or worse Martz doesn't throw to TEs. Get over it. If Olsen could block, he'd still be here. Spaeth is a 6'7 270 pound monster that can do nothing but help either Webb or Carimi.

Hurd So we got rid of Davis and Manning? No problem. Bring in a 6'3 210 guy who is a good SP, KR, and oh, he can catch.

Roy I already went over this pick up ad nauseaum, so I'll just give the clifff-notes version: BIG, young-ish, Martz/Drake familiar, red zone threat. Even if he doesn't start he'll prob get 40 ca/5 tds which makes me miss Olsen less.

    Re-signings....

Roach Again, maybe not as glamorous as Durant, but a grinder who knows our system and can play the other LB position, god forbid.

Adams Repeat, not sexy (like Membane), just solid. He had a lot to do with us shutting down the run last year, gobbling up lineman for Lach and Briggs to put the hurt. Great locker room guy too.

Now we just need a few olineme and possibly a dt and we're set.

Lovie says that RW won't be handed a starting job and that others like Hester have starter skill at WR. REALLY?

  • I'm actually excited about the Vernon Gholston signing. He is a pass rushing defensive end that thrives in a 4-3 type attack. I think this could end up working out. He is a talented pass rusher. Rodgers dead.

  • Damn, I should have started at the bottom. I just made a case for Gholston before I knew we singed him. I like.

2 reports from camp that I like today:
    1. Matt Forte is allegedly more yoked than ever. I've heard multiple sources call him an animal and in the best shape they've seen.
    2. Jay Cutler looks less frumpy and looks to be in his top shape. I like. Heard him interviewed today and there seems to be something different in him. He sounds more confident, steady, less negative and overall more upbeat. I guess that happens when you know you got more pussy poppin to do.

  • I'm a little annoyed reading all the negative posts from the last few days. FA just started. Smoke some Sour Diesel or Headbands, chill out, and let's see what happens. There are a lot of G and T on the market, but not many really good ones. Most of the really good ones re-signed with their own teams.
The current mood reminds me of this blog at the end of pre-season last year when everyone was arguing over whether the Bears would win 4 - 7 games. It was a total downer. I'm not gonna bitch about anything until we see how everything unfolds.
On a side note, does anyone remember the quote "McPenny"? Who said it, when, and about who? You will get 4 stars if anyone knows the answer.

  • Just heard Gil Brandt comment on how he thought Williams was a very good pick up for Da Bears. Thinks the Cowboys would have liked to keep him but needed the cap space.

  • I predicted 11-5 or better last preseason and was right so I'm not going to feel bad about bitching about the Roy Williams signing. We've just got to make progress on OL signings this weekend - that's all I'm looking for.
Gholston is a complete flyer - if he pans out, it will be a miracle, but you takes your shots, you pays the man.

  • I am somewhat pissed off that it is now Saturday morning and all we have done on the OL is sign Bear Jew and whiff on Willie.

Boy Roy will have to replace Olsen as an end zone target. Like it or not, Olsen was an effective red zone player. Now we have Spaeth and Roy.
