Bears Retain Corey Graham

Bears Retain Corey Graham

Vaughn McClure's Tweet:

Source tells me Corey Graham is on his way to Bourbonnais to resign with the Bears.

Dave Toub and Rod Marinelli each breathed a sigh relief as the Bears re-signed Corey Graham. Graham is arguably the second-best corner on the roster and is a special teams ace.

Olin Kreutz next?  We wait and see.

  • First and hold
    My dick!

  • Dickwad!
    Okay ....I'm holding it ...tchoh!

  • Yes Sir!!! My third favorite player on da squad behind Briggs and Peanut. Don't turn your head on Bowman just yet!! I have faith in him being much better this year.

  • Crown, third? Really?

  • Fres? Crown? All y'all? Really? LOL ! #16? Max? ROTFLOL !!!

  • No doubt Fresbra! The most underrated Bear in my opinion. How many times did he pin the opponents inside the 10 on punts last year. Many my fine friend. I like him at corner too.

I'm off to push tin like Paella and make an argument for a unisex steam room with the managers at my gym. When I get back I want Olin signed to a 2 yr deal at max (nothing more) and a gaurd for balls sake.

  • In reply to Crown:

Yup, CG nailed heads on ST bigtime last season and I like him at corner better than Jennings. I'd like to see Bowman and Graham as the corners and Peanut take over Manning's job. CH at strong, Pringles at free, and Conte with his head in the books and watching tape. Steltz-bomber bringing me my pretzel sticks and grape juice .... end the Federal Reserve scam ... all world conflicts to be settled by American football games ... and Jamar Williams back already. It's not that hard.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I;ll take the hardest one and sacrifice the rest... i.e. end the scam

  • Nice FA draft tracker

    http://chicago.cbslocal.com/nfl-free-agency-tracker/

  • whoops, from last thread (I'm late):

Johnny, always start in an email mang. Then cut/paste into the blog.

Matty, sorry to hear about your grandma mang, hopefully she's free now.

Irish... what happened? Where was that post?

Canada, funny… I was thinking about a similar analogy last night. I told myself the next time someone says that ‘we thought we’d be shit and we did fine last year’, I would throw out this…

Last year was like going to the cluuub dressed like you’re going to the gym (or staying home), but by sheer luck the hottest chick in the bar who’s rebounding off a bad breakup and you just happen to be the dude next to her at the bar (it was the only open seat, not like you actually strategized to get the spot). Anyway, after hours of talking about ‘eeeeverythiiiing’ she asks if you can give her a ride home cause she’s ‘kinda drunk’. You’re actually shocked at this point because you (or any of your friends, family, or acquaintances) never expected to be talking the hottest chick in the bar home (and she’s ‘kinda druuuuunk’).

So, you get her home and she attacks you… You get down to skivvies and every attempt to take off her bra gets blocked, so does any and all attempts to get your hand into panties. Things progress to the bedroom where you rub the underside your dick and nuts bleeding raw and then she says she better get some sleep and kicks you out.

THAT was last fucking year. Doing what we’re doing this year is basically going back to that same club, with different, better shoes (instead of flip flops this time), expecting for the same thing to happen… and not only that… but expecting that THIS TIME, you’ll close the deal.

Yeah, sounds like fun. No fucking thanks.

Look guys it seems so easy to me... in the draft we should have gotten 3 olinemen and used the other 3 picks to get them. BJ, Franklin (florida), and Moffitt. Then in FA we should have gotten claybo or gaither, and Dahl, and another second tier guard like of on NY’s guys or sidlien from Cardinals. Then we could have picked up Stallworth and THEN go to the $.99 barrel for these other guys that we have picked up on the cheap. We came into this year (again) needing oline the most, and again the only thing we’ve done is got gifted BJ. Fuck man.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Now THAT is a real analogy

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, last season seemed more like a low-expectations prom night to me.opposite to me. You ask a girl out. She says yes, and it's a done deal. Her offensive line sucks though .... her teeth don't look so good. Her hair is all messy and her makeup is always smudged .. .and is that B.O. I can smell? But what the hey, we're gonna get tuned up and rock'n'roll, right? As the night progressed and the tequilas got lined up, she started to look a whole lot better ... and color me pink by midnight she looked like Jessica Alba ... we went at it like Billy Bob and Halle in Monster's Ball - we were in the NFC Champs final. And then we sobered up.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

yeah Irish... we closed no deal man. The NFCNC didn't mean shit to me. If you remember I was more interested in the sweep and to bear GB again (which would have kicked them out of the playoffs if you remember), but right there at the doorstep of the SB we fucking choked and Martz couldn't call the type of games that had gotten us there, and while risking injury to all of our starters, we just kinda didn't game plan well or really give it a 100%. Brilliant Lovie.

I won't even go into the champeenship game. We should have beaten the pack in the last game of the season. We should have beaten them in the champeenship. We didn’t close the deal. We dry humped and got blue balls mate.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

sorry for all the typos. You get my drift.

  • I like Hester's response to the influx of receivers.

"My mind-set is that I am coming in being the starter and contributing in any kind of way I can," he said. "If (I don't start), I'm going to make plays regardless. I don't care whether I am starting or not, I am going to come in and make plays. Whether I am starting isn't going to effect me."

  • Olin is a leader. He just commands attention in the locker room and not everyone can just do that.

Listen, Jay was sacked 56 times last season. And Angelo has done nothing to fix that problem. And now some people want Olin gone so we can bring in a bunch of random nobodys to either try for his spot or for Garzas (who is just as ancient) if he were to move over during a shortened camp... Really?

And let's not forget, the first quarter of the season is arguably our toughest stretch. Trying to mesh an offensive line against some of those teams could just mean Jays death.

Sign Olin and let him groom someone for his spot...

  • In reply to Maxx:

I can agree with that. Maxx Fuck, just ANY move on the oline will be orgasmicly welcomed.

  • This of course wouldn't have been an issue if the Bears had just kept Josh Beekman last season... Not that I am bitter about that one at all

  • damn man... looks like the vikings are going hard after a #1 WR after losing rice.

Going after Floyd, james jones, etc...

    Common man!

  • I don't know if anybody's noticed or not, but today is the first day of training camp. Word is, Forte is yolked. The guys should be all fresh and fired up. Goddamn, this thing just gets more exciting everyday. Get me Olin, get me a guard, and personally, I'm good to go.

I know everybody's excited about free agency, and rightfully so, but I'm pumped about seeing the guys in pads again, hearing the pop of the pads, seeing Jay C sling it. Hearing the training camp crowd get all pumped up about every Hester sighting and Urlacher hit. Seeing my old favorites, Peanut, Briggsy, Urlacher, Kreutz (hopefully). My new faves, Peppers, Hester, Cutty. Watching heads turn as Forte starts looking like Eric Dickerson/Marshall Faulk. Heads WILL turn. Seeing the development of the Rookies, Bear Jew and The Tongan Hulk. Hoping against hope that this rookie FA center from Oregon state turns out to be the next Hilgenberg. Waiting to hear news of Pringles layin' his wood to some practice squad scrub wide reciever. Slowly getting more and more excited for the regular season.

We are at the dawn of a new season, Men. Possibly the last great chance for Urlacher and hence, this team to win a title. We've got the pieces, even if the ignorant masses think otherwise. Cutty and company know this offense now. Cutty and Forte both have a chip on their shoulder. Peppers and Urlacher and Briggsy and Peanut always bring it. The young O-lineman from last year have a year of seasoning under their belts and WILL be better. The defensive stars KNOW this defense inside and out. Marinelli will have this D-line pumped up. We may not win it all, and I'd be lying if I thought we were the favorites. But fuck it, ya know what? I don't give a nutty ass fuck. Football is upon us gentlemen. Fucking holy goddamn I'm stoked.

For those of you who've played the game before, I suggest heading on down to the local high school with your mower. Cut about 3 blades of grass. Get down on the ground and take a big long nose-whiff. You'll understand what I mean when you smell it. You'll understand.

    Football Men. Football.

    Motherfucking Hell Yes!!

  • In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

    Doc, that made my day.

Time to go pretend to be 16 and hit the shit out of some high schoolers.

  • why is OhmiGod still on this team?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Suction?

  • Earlier I mentioned a tribune article calling out starters on the line going into camp and conspicuously the left guard spot wasn't filled. CBS draft tracker has the Bears interested in Carl Nicks who's the Saints LG. He also happens to be a great pass blocker. Hmmmm

  • Frank Omiyale playing left tackle with 1st team.

  • In reply to Artoo:

For now, Artoo. Lovie never hands the starting job to a rookie. The Bear Jew will have to earn it.

  • In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

not unless he's being grossly over-paid... THEN he'll start no matter what.

  • MB, great post! That fucker said it all. I've sported 2/3's of the Blue Man Group before and you can't wait to get home and jack off.

Doc, very inspiring. Only wish I could still get out there and whack somebody.

I'm trying to be optimistic but with no upgrades on the OL other than a rookie ... Not to mention Numb Nuts drafted him. Uh-oh.

  • The Eagles are going to be stout if everyone stays healthy..they just got Jenkins.

  • In reply to Artoo:

I think that's a better signing for them than Aso, to be honest.
I thought their D-line was pretty awful against us last year.

  • Much as we love to pile on Angela, it's too early to grade a test that hasn't been completed yet.

Target-wise, Cutler is set. I've always been a big fan of Kellen Davis. Hands, focus, size, and more focus. Roy is solid. I love Sam Hurd and think he'll surprise people more than Roy will. We couldn't match the Rams $3.7 for MSW which amazes me. But we can win a Lombardi with Hester and Bennett in the mix. Spaeth is no dummy, and at 6'7 ... you're always open. Given Forte, Taylor and Eddie Williams can catch it pretty well ... Cutler looks fairly well set. If all else fails and everyone is magically covered .. .he's one of the most mobile QBs in the game after Vince Young and Mike Vick.

Jefe, you made no reference to Olin playing hurt all last season. Unfair methinks. I seem to be an army of few behind Olin at the moment, as I was an army of few behind Urlacher before last season. I rode Olin's case all last season, my bad - because, like most fans, I don't know shit, and speak without knowing all the facts. Obviously he couldn't say he was hurt last season, not in the macho world of the NFL .... but he was coming back from having a bone spur removed from his achilles, remember. He couldn't train properly, never had time to heal up. This time around, his off-site trainer said he's been pushing the 400lb sled - which he couldn't do all of last season. Now my feeling is that if you can't do the job properly, if you truly value the team, you fess up and say "I can't do you guys justice, I'm hurtin' here" But he didn't, and he played hurt. So be it. But he's not hurt now, and he's good to go. Everybody loved to pile onto Urlacher last pre-season saying he was done for. Not so. He was awesome. And neither is Olin done. Next year, maybe. But, firing on all cylinders, he'll be good to go for another season . No doubt he's looking for a contract that will take him to 38 or beyond and secure more cash for his family. Understandable.

We've got guys on this roster that can play guard. Pick any two out of Asiata, Louis and Garza and there's your starters ready to go. There's plenty of time to pick up another guard in FA. Levi Horn is 6'7 and cannot be any worse than Webb or Omelette, we could slot him in - he's Tice's pet apparently. He is in favor with the king, so maybe there's our RT on the roster already. None of us knows about the younger guys and how they've progressed under Tice and away from the cameras. Chris Williams is always there, and he wasn't drafted in the first round for no reason. Having a first round pick to back you up at swing tackle isn't bad.

Olin said he only picked up the phone this off-season to talk to Carimi. He didn't feel like he could pick it up and call the other guys and organize workouts, because he didn't know if he'd be a Bear or not. That's all on Angelo and we should have locked him up in the off-season and put everyone's mind at rest and we'd have a trained OL now. As Kreutz said himself, it's not about money, it's about fairness. He said he's "left a bunch of money on the table over the years to stay a Bear" and I believe that.

Tackles and guards we have on the bench. Another Olin we do not.

fucken a... they went from a B/B+ team to an A-Team (get it?) in ONE offseason. And why can we do the same? yes I know, no football has been played yet, but on paper.

See how that happens? They have a need... they fill it, one way or another. they fill needs with guys like asomungus and jenkins... we get guys like gholston and CW.

See the difference there? See it?

I am not high on this team if we don't go get Dahl or at least TRY and steal Jones from the Vikes.

Somebody call Ace Used Cars, ask for Bernie Berrian. Ask him if he needs a better job.

  • Filed to ESPNChicago.com by Michael C. Wright and Jeff Dickerson: Olin Kreutz unlikely to resign with Bears.

    jus read this on twitter.

    FUCK.

  • RT @vxmcclure23: Bears agree to terms with DT Amobi Okoye, the 10th overall pick in 2007 draft, sources tell me. One-year deal.

and i just got a chubby.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Excellent. Makes me even more pissed off we didn't pick up Leshoure.

Olin, really? I'd expect that if we'd drafted Pouncey, not if Garza is the best you have, Jebus. Cutler is out of here ....

  • FQ, I was just fucking with you about the fair-weather thing mang... forgot to reply to you.

James Jones still out there and available Jerry. Remember the offense? It's the squad that goes in once the defense has done its job. Our starting oline is who now?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    all good bro...all good.

i think they have some more plans up their sleeves. can't lie...the only signing i'm pissed off about is Roy Williams. other than that, EVERYBODY'S low-risk, high-reward. can't hate on that brother.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I actually don't hate any of the moves we've made my man. They are all low cost/risk and could turn out to be ok.

It's the moves we AREN’T making (for the 4th year in a row) that's got me so fired up man. I’m ok with losing olin in theory, but without replacing him and without getting any of the teir 1 guys that used to be available, I can’t see how we’ll improve the line over last year… and thus the sack count, and thus cutty’s safety, and thus our record.\

Anyway, I know you guys are getting sick of me saying it, so… tough shit. Ha!

Btw, your boy looked HUUUUUGE in the pics I saw posted. Fucken a mang, he’s a house!

  • Okoye was 10th pick in 2007 draft as #Bears continue to become a landing spot for busted out players -- Roy Williams, Vernon Gholsoton.

    via Brad Biggs twitter.

  • The bad part about following the Bears is that you get emotionally attached to the players. Kruetz has been a mainstay but the show must go on. Keeping Olin on the squad when he can't do his job anymore is not a good thing. Lovie has taken alot of heat in the past for sticking with guys for too long and I think it was time to cut the cord with Olin.

  • Ha ha. I just read where someone said "Jerry isn't satisfied with his first round busts so now he's bringing in everyone else's. Very funny indeed.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

I like that. I mean obviously I don't like it, but I like *that*.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

And if they were going to cut the cord with Olin then why the fuck did we draft Carimi? It was a clear cut case of trading up for Pouncey. End of story. Draft the MLB in the first round next year. It's football, it's not that hard!!

  • While I agree that we need depth and youth at the C position, and that Olin isn't the player he was a few years ago, I completely disagree with letting him walk and believe it will ultimately do more harm than good to our team.

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

I hear you Matty but you can't honestly tell me that you would rather have him on the squad than a player that can do a better job would you?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

A valid point but who on the squad right now is better? Letting Olin walk when coaches, players and even sportswriters say keep him, just leaves me with a bad feeling...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

are these the same "experts" that said we'd finish third in our division?

I'm a bit conflicted on Olin walking.

On the one hand, his production sucked and is only going to get worse, and we're going to grossly over pay for that?

On the other hand, it's a shortened preseason, and knowledge is almost as important to a center as skill. It's one of those positions, like QB and MLB that requires toughness and smarts and Olin had both in spades.

But I still remember him on the ground half the time last year.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I guess another question is why did the Bears leave themselves so vulnerable at that position to begin with? What was the plan if he previously had been injured and out for any length of time? Nobody else on the team seems to have much of any experience at the position. I mean like almost none...

  • In reply to 4ever85:

He was playing hurt last year, he's good now. Can't let him walk. No way. This offense is fkd if he walks.

  • apparently we signed Marion Barber to a 2 year deal...

so does this mean we cut Chester Taylor?

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

  • This is nuts. I think these signings can actually determine whether you're an optimist, pessimist, or realist.

IF you're an optimist, you'll prob like these signings because you'll trust Martz, Tice and Marinelli will revive these cast-offs.

If you're a pessimist, you're prob shaking your head.

If you're a realist, you're prob luke-warm with a "wait and see" mindset.

I think I'm the last. I have a feeling we're still gonna make a big move. Hopefully, it pans out.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

4 ever, I'd hope that most Bears fans are realist. Realistically if the O-line isn't addressed we're fucked. You can put whipped cream on a turd but underneath it's still shitty.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

Let me see if I get this. You seem to take a realistic approach in understanding the three camps most Bear fans are in. Yet you are optimistic that the Bears are gonna make a big move but you end your post with the word hopefully which means you really don't think the Bears will fill the needs we still have but are too uncertain to say as much. How'd I do?

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

about the same as the rest of the day, being a dbag smart ass.

    newbie makin' friends.

  • In reply to BigDaddy:

Fallacious, to say the least. I said I have a feeling that the Bears still have a move or two, esp considering sources are saying that they might still make a move for Carl Nicks.

If they do give up a first for him, tell me on record if u would be OK with that, then we can go from there.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

I was in "wait and see" mode, but if Olin's gone then there's a fourth ... "WTF?!"

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

WTF, 4ever? You callin' me a pessimist? Huh? Are ya?

    wtf dude?!

  • Thanks Doc for giving me a chubby about the forte being yolked thing. So who's gonna start this fuckin fantasy football league? Hold my dick!

  • Irish started one. Read up Fres.

  • Fres, 2 spots left on the first league, hurry up. Password is sweetness.

  • From the Trib:
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-0731-olin-kreutz-bears-chicago20110731,0,6187705.story

Apparently, $500K is the difference. Olin wants $4.5 mil and the Bears are only willing to pay $4 mil. How about they split the difference and call it a deal?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Losing him over 500k is absurd.

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Are u fucken kidding me? Losing Olin cuz the 9ers threw out some outlandish offer is one thing, but losing him over half a mil is ludicrous!

The entire team would restructure their deals to get their leader back.

Can't believe the McCaskey's still find new ways to be cheap.

  • In reply to 4ever85:

heard the 'miners never offered him a deal....

  • In reply to SoILBearsFan:

So Olin's letting his agent fuck with our emotions (big worm!) for money?

I'd offer him one penny if I found that out. what's less than a penny, a Ugandan rock? Yes, that.

  • Jeff - I can only assume you are going to the preseason game in NY on the 22nd.
Is anyone else planning on making it to that game?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Yes, I think Shakka Caan will be there.

  • Here's my latest Evil Gnome rant:

"Jimmy you little fucking idiot, you can no longer login to ChicagoNow using Safari. Do some fucking code testing on browsers other than yours you little garden elf."

Jesus, Blogfather, do they send you chocolates? It's time to pick up the circus and go to a new town.

    Now, back to topic...

Kreutz asked for 1yr $5m. Bears opened with $3m, then went to $4m on 1yr. Kreutz says 4.5M or I fucking walk, with no offer sheet on the fax machine from the Niners. This according to Biggsy.

Bears are solid to hold the line on 4. It's the right play. We as fans may not like that, but that's the right business call there. Kreutz will cave-in over 500k. Send him some chocolates or Ginny can give him a no denture workdown. Something sweet like that. He'll sign.

  • $500 thou is the difference?

    DO IT!.

What the fuck is Jerry thinking?

Who do we have on the roster better than Olin at Center. And who do we have that is better who is going to be more prepared than Olin come week 1?

According to the Trib, both Williams and Garza were having problems with snaps in practice today.

Just pay him or find some proven player who is better.

  • In reply to Maxx:

That's Ted Phillips, as much as Jerry. Jerry is just the fucking munchkin town mayor, Phillips is the arch-c*nt bean counter. If Olin walks just to make a point when we're still 3 trillion dollars under the cap then fuck my life. Angela must die. Chip in the cash, get me over there, supply the gun and I'll stick it up his arse and pull the trigger unitl it goes 'click'.

    The Dude is angry, man.

  • Evidently, posting more than once per half hour is too much for CN's shit-tastic code to handle. WTF, Jimmy.

  • Have to say - the Barber/Spaeth signings are my favorites so far. And considering we have $$$ left that we HAVE to spend, I think we are going to not finished yet. Sign Olin, get Floyd or Jones (both of whom we have the cash to go after), and sign another Tackle.

  • Fuck it, Jimmy - I have now lost more posts in the last twenty four hours than in the prior three years on this blog.
What the fuck is wrong with your code-monkeys?

  • Wow, 24 hours off of electricity and a ton of stuff happens.

Forte - I believe we are sitting on his contract because he is where our money will this year if we need to get over the new salary minimum. I've been wondering how teams are going to deal with that issue, and I think one solution is to hold off a couple of contract extensions so you can decide the best way to structure them after free agency dies down.

Defensive Tackle - Okoye is best at the nose tackle position as I understand it. Paea is apparently very strong, but a bit on the slower side, meaning he is also a nose tackle. Gholston is a good prospect (for the veteran minimum), but will not be moving to tackle. Who do we have that is a true, pure three technique guy that can rush to the back field and create chaos? Is that Anthony Adams? I see this as a need and I think the back office does too. I think we're fine without a big signing, but to be a truly scary D-line (like Detroit) we probably need one more signing.

O-Line - We should sign Kruetz to a 2 year deal with a loyalty premium. We just need the continuity. I like that they made a play for Colon, but I want to know who our next tackle prospect is. Is Matt Light still in the picture? I would honestly be happier seeing Olin come back and only one more signing if that signing is a top flight anchor at LT or G rather than 2 or 3 "prospects" like others are posting.

Odds and Ends - I think the upgrade at running back, I like the resigning of Graham. I like Hurd (though Rasheed deserves a spot somewhere on specials). But I would like to see another DB signing, either as a strong safety or cornerback. I would also like to see another LB as we are still thin there.

Its coming together though. Hats off to the back office so far. But please get that O-line covered.

  • In reply to NewBearInTown:

Rasheed will be a stallworth on specials, as always. But sorry to break this to ya New Bear, Scrappy Sheed is in Detroit now. Hurd is the new 81.

  • In reply to Doc Nitty 34:

I didn't mean on our team. With the Hurd signing and the need to make space for prospects, there's just no space on the roster for him. But he deserves to play in the NFL and the Lions made a good pickup by getting him.

  • Ok, i held out for one day like Osi. I will now copy every post in anticipation of Chicago Now sucking cock when it comes to blogging.

Also, every post will start with an affirmation of my hatred for Chicago Now, Jimmy Greenfield and his ugly face.

Affirmation for 7/31/2011 - Jimmy you are terrible at your job.

Actual Comment - Olin can't be that big of a dick to fuck the Bears over 500k. However, Angelo should pay it simply for the fact that he should have planned this better and should've known what to do so we didn't go into the 2011 super bowl run WITHOUT A FUCKING CENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Olin fucks us you'd better fucking call Shaun O'Hara, send over a hot asian masseuse to rub him and tug him into signing a 1 yr deal with us. If Edwin Williams, Chris Williams or Roberto Garza or even Spencer is our Center I will have a stroke because botched snaps will become a familiar phrase in Chicago media vocab.

if Olin fucks us over 500k I will lose every shred of respect that i've ever had for him. He has no skills left and plays like shit but since the bears admin is so fucking brutal we didn't ever plan for a day when Olin wasn't the center anymore. He knows he plays like shit now and he knows the Bears are fucked and he's holding out over 500k???? Classless. This is a classic hostage situation and as a fan I don't appreciate it from Olin.

A guard and a tackle better be signing a Bears contract tomorrow. This is not even funny Jerry. you will fuck the whole season if you don't do anything here.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

Shaun O' Hara! Good call. Think that's what they had lined up all along. He was undrafted right? Hilgenberg style. Okay. Sucks though, he doesn't know the calls.

I'd be more pissed at the Bears for not looking after the guy that had six pro bowls and anchored their line for years. He took shitty pay to remain a Bear and the least they could have done was give him a golden handshake instead of a golden shower.

  • Chris Williams was taking snaps at center during camp today. It did not go well. The guy is a bust. Maybe he can play defensive tackle?

  • Seriously... this is ridiculous.

  • We haven't we signed Gaither or Stephen Tulloch? At least we should make a pass at Osi, if we sign Osi then it doesn't really matter what happens on offense, we'll just kick 3 points with Automatic and win the game

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    riiiiight.

Tulloch's gone anyway, Lions got him mate... you know, the team in our division that makes a lot of moves to fill their needs.

btw, the eagles are going to be very good this year if they can translate that they have 'on paper' to what they put on the field. Holy shit, they have just been fucking crushing it this week.

oh, and the jets are taking a shot at burres

  • In reply to MB30SD:

they got Durant AND Tulloch? Looks like they just solidified their LB corps, a need they knew they had to address.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

yep johnny. they're fillin' gaps like a little a dentist mang. and we're busy collecting garbage. Sweet.

They are angeloan in the way they fill every spot but their terrible secondary though. WTF (there it is 85) is up with these GMs.

Common sense dictates that you fill your most critical gap first and best... doesn't it!?!?!

Oh, and Gaither’s done Irish. Couldn’t pass his physical. The raiders coach basically said dude is not ready to play because his back injury is still so bad. Let’s stay away.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

Jebus. Their offense and D-line was already hot to trot, what a dog fight the NFCN is now.

  • Affirmation of the day: Chicago Now is running this blog like Angelo runs the Bears. They know the negative aspects of the blog that need to be changed yet refuse to change them.

    Actual Comment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amobi_Okoye

Played college football at age 16. Is only 24 now. This is not some bust. He was a kid when the Texans drafted him. He probably wasn't coached up properly. Marinelli will turn this guy into a monster. I mean, he is already a physical monster but into a force to be reckoned with. He is 24!

  • btw, floyd, jones, b. edwards still out there... can't believe floyd is still not taken.

Since there hasn't been heavy demand, why not throw an offer over the wall at him... and jones... if that doesn't work, anyone in for some dumbass braylon? I would be. guy's a tool, but he's also 6'3" 220..

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, the Lions and Eagles killed it in FA and when combined with the draft have, in my opinion, made the biggest moves forward on paper. It sucks that the Lions are in our division. The Bears need to sign the linemen they need right fucking now. This is serious. The Packers and now even the Lions represent viable obstacles to the post season. The Lions addressed their issues and the Bears are not addressing the single largest inequity on the team.

  • Damn MBP, they listened to our Barber suggestion.

Expect us to sign Chris Spencer at C if Olin is gone.

  • In reply to Crown:

Spencer is a better center than Olin at this point but he is not the player the Bears need right now. The Bears need Olin because of the shit show that was the lockout. He makes every single line call and adjusts all of the blocking assignments. He IS the locker room and it would be a huge blow to the morale of the team if he didn't come back. Cutler will step up to lead this team this year but it is the right thing to do to bring back Olin at this point. Then get another linemen or two. The rest of the issues have been covered sufficiently. Angelo just needs to finish this out.

  • Bears are in a bidding war for..... Braylon Edwards. Jerry, I can't say your stupid, but you need a center and two guards really bad.

So.. Umm.. GET SOMEONE WHO CAN PROTECT JAY SO HE CAN THROW!!!!!

  • True story Johnny.

I still won’t believe the lions can do anything with all the great moves until I see it, but again, on paper, they’ve done a whole lot right over the last two years.

I just don’t get what the absolute refusal to fix our oline is with us. If we just did that one single thing, I think we’d be a major contender this year.

And crown, why not get him anyway? Why wait till we drop olin? Get his ass now!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

agreed mang. JUST THAT ONE SINGLE THING. Why is that so hard for Angelo to understand and address?

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

Good point. Just that one thing.

I keep reading about Clayton, Brad, and espn chicago, saying that the Bears are going to get people for the oline.

Oh, how many of you believe that there is a lot of good oline out there? I don't.

  • In reply to Artoo:

If the management was ALL IN they would have looked at last years team, picked the particular areas where we failed (offensive line) and would have addressed it. The team did well and technically we don't even need new receivers. The most glaring problems came with the offensive gameplanning and the lack of consistent protection.

  • In reply to Waffle 2.0:

The most glaring problem from last year's offense ws twofold: No blocking, and no one open even when Cutty had time. We've addressed teh receivers and I don't think - I hope - we don't see much of Knox this season. But the line is bad enough without its center .... that's just a travesty, we need Olin no matter what.

  • After SEA asked LB Lofa Tatupu to take paycut, he asked them to release him. The team plans to do so, albeit reluctantly.

Can he beat Roach? ... I never really liked Roach that much

  • In reply to Artoo:

i'm sure Ruskell just ejaculated when he heard that. ANGELO - NEED OFFENSIVE LINEMEN TO PROTECT FRANCHISE QUARTERBACK.

PS. - greenfield sucks at his job.

  • Johnny, why hate on Olin over the $500k? It's a business and he's a prideful man. I'm not saying he's worth it or even deserves it but if it's that important to him on principle that's the way it is. He can't need the money that bad, it has to be principle.

Why Numb Nuts refuses to add players on the OL is beyond baffling. We had one major weakness last year (and the year before and the year before and the year before) and it's Numb Nuts specialty. What does that say? Fuck Me.

GP, I always use Safari for the blog. It's working for me, Other than the fact the blog software sucks Moose Wang.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Canada, believe me that i fault Angelo more for not acting like a GM and planning better. They had all offseason to decide what to do and now they are all holding their dicks over 500k. Kreutz is the leader but i find fault because he was one of the problems as well. He got his ass blown up consistently but unfortunately the lockout and the leadership/mental tasks he accomplishes for the rest of the line are too important to fuck with at this late stage of the game. that is why we need him. Kreutz knows that and he is still fucking the Bears over 500k. that is some bullshit.

If there was no lockout and there was time to bring a guy in who was better and could learn the line calls i'd tell Kreutz to blow himself but that is not the case.

  • Two spots left in the DBB fantasy league for midday. Scrollup ....

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    I'm in brotha!

roach is solid but not a star... tufu is a bad ass in the pisa mould.

  • i just thought of something. If Lovie wants Kreutz on the team he will be on the team. Lovie can tell Angelo that he needs Kreutz to be successful. So at least we know that Kreutz will be back if Lovie and Tice really want him to be.

Also, don't tease me with Tufu mang. That would be a sick linebacking corps with Roach as backup.

  • I'm shocked Jimmy can even pull on his little gnome boots every day.

This Olin soap is probably all Jerry can think about, to the exclusion of any other linemen available. He's probably rocking back and forth in the corner at this stage.

The Bears love of keeping it on the cheap by embracing the youth strategy doesn't really work with OL. Lineman come into their prime later than wideouts or impact RBs. They take as long to develop as QBs do, and maybe Tice sees big strides in Lance Louis that we don't see - but I would think with Olin playing hardball, having one more offer sheet out there would make sense. Angelo lost Colon, okay. Sack up and make some more calls.

Just not to the Ravens. They hate Jerry.

  • Irish, I think all the knox hate is misplaced my man.

Yeah, he’s small and isn’t a great route runner (this will only be his 3rd year in the NFL) and he most certainly was to blame for a few INTs last year because he got abused by corners… but if we had a real set of receivers and a real oline, I bet he wouldn’t have been used as a ‘must throw to’ guy all the time. Many throws to him were forced, last second, and many times he was the only target because no one else was open or cutty was running for his life.

If you watch some youtube vids, most of his successful plays were done when cutty had time or it was a planned play. I’m not even talking about his numbers, which have been pretty damn impressive for a guy in his first two years in the league.

Anyway, I think with a couple other options and pray to jebus we are still planning on fixing our oline (not holding my breath though), he’ll have a great year.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3am9dZ5X0c

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Nah, he left Cutty out to dry all season. He might get better, he's still young.

  • If Jerry swings Edwards and Tatupu then I get why the piggybank was held back.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    gp... oline?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think we need OL however Tice seems to think LL and Garza and Kreutz is all he needs there. I still think Webb is destined for LT instead of Omlette and Carmini is RT.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    wtf? (for you, ever85)

If so, then Jerry is more an ass than I thought.

Not sure how Cutler is going to live through the season. Camini better be really, REALLY good, really, really soon.

  • Sounds like Tice is liking Williams at center. Apparently he is lefty and that is taking some getting used to. Tice has wanted to work him into that spot since last season. I'm still thinking something is gonna get done with Olin. if it doesn't it's because Tice wants to move on.

  • In reply to #76 Mongo Murph:

    Edwin or Chris?

  • Changed the draft time to 08/01/11 12:00 PM ET - 6 votes will change that. Democracy or what?

    One spot left.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Monday afternoon puts me in a "could be fired" position...

I don't see the rush, especially with so much preseason action left to go...

What time difference are we working with Irish?

Truthfully, Sat & Sun work best for me, but I can always figure it out.

  • In reply to Who is Willie Gault:

I can change it, everybody would still have to vote on it - it's an ESPN thing. Evening better for everyone? Might be better just to disband it so everyone doesn't have to vote. Let's get consensus though. How about 10 P.M. Monday ??

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

    Got it.

10pm sounds good to me... Set it up.

    Vote folks.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

Did you kill your team Irish?

  • I'm down for fantasy, but I'll holdout until the last week of preseason to see where everyone is at re injuries.

We have enough solid locker room guys. Briggs, Lach, Cutty, da Nut. But, if Olin is held up for 500k, that seems a bit nonsensical.

Braylon and Lofa would be very solid pickups. Spencer is out there as the Hawks are making room for Unger at C. I'm happy with him at center even though he got raped by the Vike's Williams wall last year. I still think he would be an upgrade on the field to Olin's old ass. This is not to say I don't have the utmost respect for how Olin has represented the Bears org throughout the years. I will always remember him as one of the best character guys the Bears have ever seen during my lifetime.

GP-just wishful thinking that Garza could move to center or still play above par at all this year. I'm skeptical that he can last a full year at gaurd. I don't know who looked worse last year, Olin or Garza. I'm also with you on thinking Webb will be our starting LT. But, they need to play the shit out of J'Marc during the pre-season to ensure he's ready.

Marion Barber is going to do what we all thought Chester the Molester would last year. He is going to be a real impact guy for us.

I was one of the biggest skeptics of Jay's injury vs the Pack last year. You guys helped me step off the ledge, but I remained doubtful of Jay until I recently suffered a grade 1 ligament tear in my knee through a combo of basketball and softball. I've been rehabbing it on my own for a few weeks, but it still lingers. I have no problem walking straight, but the second I have to turn at all, I feel it. My side to side action is shot everywhere outside of the bedroom. I don't look hurt until I have to turn; then I sow my O face to the world. So, I'm done saying anything about Cutty's toughness and I'm happy he doesn't look frumpy coming to camp.

Besides Dahl and dude from the steelers, which offensive lineman have we missed on? There just doesn't seem to be many quality OL FAs out there this year; just a bunch of gap pluggers.

I'm out for an hour and a half while I do some gap plugging of my own. You guys ever try to bang to Pink Floyd's The Wall? Shit gets real emotional and bitches think you're "connecting" with them.

  • Im tryin to get in Irish. What's the league name

  • I'll probably re-do it Fres and let you know. On ESPN, if the league isn't filled by the right time they make the members vote on a new drsaft time, that's just not cool for everyone. I'll let you know.

  • Asomugha to the Eagles.

So, that's 2 years in a row that all the so-called "experts and insiders" completely WHIFFED on where the top free agent was going to land.

    I love it.

  • Not sure if this is the entire list, but here it is….

    Done deals:

    (G) Harvey Dahl – to rams, 4 year deal

    (G) Deuce Lutui – bengals, 2 year deal

    (T) Willie Colon – Steelers, 5 year $29M deal

    (G) Daryn Colledge – Cards, 5 yead $27M deal

    (T) Tyson Clabo – falcons resigned, 5 year $25M (seems to be about the going rate for a starting

    (G) Davin Joseph – Tampa, 7 yr $52M (yowza!)

    (T) Jeremy Trueblood – 2 year deal

    (T) Jermon Bushrod – Saints, 2 year deal

    (G) Marshal Yanda – Ravens, 5yr $32M deal

    (T) Doug Free – girls, 4 yr $32M deal

    Still Available:

    (T) Matt Light – on verge of deal with pats

    (T) Jared Gaither – Raiders turned him down (injury)

    (T) Jammal Brown – Redskins in middle of doing deal to bring him back

    (G) Jonathan Goodwin – Saints

    (T) Ryan Harris – Broncos

    (G) Carl Nicks – Saints

So looks like light and Gaither are out for different reasons. So if Jerry can just close the deal for Nicks, Goodwin, and Brown or Harris… I’ll be happy and we can move on to winning the super bowl.

Now… who has the exact day and time that hell is going to freeze over?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ryan Harris would be nice, Cutler would trust him.

  • Hey Irish, lets shoot for a little later than Noon eastern time. Kind of last minute to call it that close. Some guys need a little more heads up.

Olin was not the PLAYER he once was, but he was that most important "Big Brother" figure in our lockerroom and I don't think our front office and coaching staff are ready for the impact his absence is gna make....

    all over 5K.....

  • Is he going to announce that he's frakked up with Olin and then commit seppuku live on camera? Good.

  • In reply to IrishSweetness:

I'd buy that for a dollar.

btw, just watched last samurai on tv last night. pretty damn good movie... from when tom cruise wasn't outwardly a fucking whackjob.

  • I'm in, Dara. I went back to the first league you started, and it says the draft time has yet to be determined.

  • Oh yeah. And fuck Braylon Edwards. Jerry, fewer underachieving wide receivers with the dropsies, and more protection for Jay please.

  • Yo Fres, re-doing the league. ESPN makes it to hard to change a draft time once it's originally set.

    7 spots left ....

500 grand, it beggars belief. So long Olin, you'll be sorry when we win it all.

  • it’s a bit too late for me, since I’m 6hrs in front of u guys, So I’ll pass. But if there are other Europeans that want to join a league. We can create another one. I can join a live draft as late as 7 PM.

Boom... right there. We need to get rosenpenis in here...

He's the perfect vet backup for us. We need that insurance please jerry.

  • See that, every once in a while you and I agree 100% jeff.

Thanks for all the years olin. Time to enjoy being put out to pasture bra.

Jeff, these things are first and foremost for NC staff to fix:

    1. No more lost data!!! Posts that don’t actually post, you get that ‘posting too fast’ message… which then deletes your post when you go back (I don’t have to tell you that lost customer data is a cardinal sin in software)

    2. Remember me for login… having to retype your entire email every time is brutal

    3. Live links

The rest (like all the wasted space and gratuitous advertising) is liveable. Thanks.

  • Olin's agent gonna have some 'splainin to do, if Harbaugh faxes over an offer sheet for 3M and there is no choice but to accept it.

  • why would u you guys do such a thing

  • get graham back

  • lets show those doody packers this year whose boss
