DaBearsBlog (ChicagoNow) is Moving

Hello My Loyal Friends,

So I let you all know last week that we'll be transitioning this site, with the remainder of ChicagoNow, in the coming few days.  The site will look much different, much sparer, kinda ugly, but we'll be fixinfg things as we move forward.

Here is what you should know:

  • The site will be down from evening Wednesday night until midday Thursday.
  • Your user profiles are going away. You'll be able to keep display names but for the time being if you want to keep a photo with their account you'll need to register your email address at gravatar.com and add the user pic through there.
  • ChicagoNow email alerts are going away.  You can still subscribe to our site via email.
  • From the ChicagoNow boss: "Comments are changing. They'll go in reverse chronological order to start, and though there's a reply option it's not threaded comments. This feature is my biggest priority to fix at launch due to the Da' Bears Blog users and a few others that have such an active group of commenters."
  • All thoughts, complaints and suggestions should be sent to staff@ChicagoNow.com.

Have patience with this transition, folks.  It's not going to be pleasant for anyone and there's a lot of behind-the-scenes reasons for its occurence.  Ultimately, things will remain fundamentally the same: I will write thoughts, ya'll will bitch and moan and we'll have a wonderful NFL season.

  • Sounds like a bunch of gobble dee gook.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Damn technocrats.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

A few others have an active set of commenters, like us? For real?
    Who?
    I wanna arm-wrestle 'em.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Milkin it.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Isn't that us?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AkAGshziWrVvan6IObis.QJDubYF?slug=dw-wetzel_terrell_owens_is_good_for_nfl_062811

Owens is that nice choclate cake that you see on the table, it looks real good but doesn't mean you won't get a stomach ache later.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

How bad is the injury does anyone know? Sign him. He beats the piss out of anyone we have.

By the way, I'd nearly bet my testicles that Favre starts spouting crap again soon. Guaranteed somebody offers silly money when they realise how poor their QB roster is ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

You know he could.. he always wants to miss OTA's and now he can again.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

An ACL tear is an ACL tear. Is he planning on coming back for league minimum? Because if he isn't, we'd be extra-retarded to sign him with the other FA receivers that are available.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Cue the Jerry Angelo press conference welcoming Terrel Owens to the Chicago Bears for a nice new $5M, 1 yr contract.

    Great job Jerry!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ugh - if there was ever a guy built to not wear the Bears uniform, it would be TO.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Ocho is very much non-Bear material. Y Senor Clinton Portis tambien.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Si.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    change is a scary thing.

  • In reply to samriepe:

the only thing that is constant... is change.

Change is only opportunity disguised as scary.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

go to bed with itchy butt wake up with smelly finger.

    -Konfusius

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Excellent!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Urlacher says he would welcome Burres to the Bears.

"We've never had a problem with any players in our locker room, no matter who they are."
"He's not going to hurt you," Urlacher said. "You've seen what he's done throughout his career.

"I'm a big fan of his. Always been a big fan of his, football-wise. Every time he plays against us, he gives us fits. He's a tough matchup for any corner. He's a big guy [6-foot-5, 232 pounds], good red-zone guy. I don't know how fast he is, but that doesn't really matter when you're that good."

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Plax was the man, no doubt. But can you come out of prison having been away for so long and play NFL football? I guess Mick Vick actually got better so maybe you can ...

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    I'm buying a Bennent jersey

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    I like that plan.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I love when i have entertaining dreams.

Last night I made out with Angie Everheart and we picked up Cullen Jenkins and Malcolm Floyd in FA. I woke up before Angelo could explain why we didn't get a guard.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

It would have gone something along the lines of ....

"Well, y'know we looked at the metrics of the situation moving forward, and we like our guys on the line. We like J'Marcus a lot. There may be some switching around in terms of position and whatnot, but we like our guys. We think J'Marcus is ready to step up and be a left tackle in the NFL. Roberto still has a few good years left in him and we all love Olin of course. He's running on steam and can't block for shit anymore but we'll turn a blind eye to that, as we will with Frank because of his salary and we'll take it from there."

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Just as long as you didn't make out with Cullen Jenkins and Malcolm Floyd and the Bears didn't pick up Angie Everheart ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    exactly

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Oez Noes!, Taylor labelled a bust

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/5629/bust-debate-five-more-to-consider

  • In reply to gpldan:

you'll see a different Chester this year. No injuries to rehab, a defined role and a balanced offense? you can't be a bust after 1 year.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

calling him a bust is ridiculous. Give him a real, consistent place in our o and he'll do well.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'll call him a bust. BUST! Who the fuck pays money for a 30+ yr old running back when every year there are free agent rookies to be had for nothing. Dumb move getting chester the molester.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Without a doubt for $12M, I agree it was gross negligence and a totally moronic move... but are you shocked with this circle jerk management?

That said, you can't call the player a bust. I still think he'll have a kickass year if we use him correctly.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Well, he was good at the goal line and could anyone really run well with that oline?

Seriously. I hope Webb,Creamie, and Williams, are ready to start and can play good. We need need that since Kreutz and Garza are on their literally last leg.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Forte had his highest average per carry for his career. Taylor sucks a massive amount of monkey cock. Nearly the amount of monkey cock sucked by brandon manumaleuna, which is a lot.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Manu manu manu, as he healed from the knee surgery became a hole opener for Forte in the second half of the season. On every big run Olsen and Manu were getting it done. Unfortunately he needed yet another surgery in this past offseason.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

May have something to do with the extra 50 lbs he's wearing.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

It seemed like Chester ran into bad luck early in the season. Every time he got the ball he was met in the backfield. In the second half of the season the blocking was better but he was about the same. Bring on Unga. Totally agree about ManOfMoolah.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I'm off until after the holiday. Hopefully none of you fuckers blows a hand off (i'm talking to you artoo). Going to Wisconsin to break the word record for beers consumed in a weekend. Wish me luck

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    Have a few for me!

I know irish mentioned the leader, but I never saw a link.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Good luck, coach. If you go too far and gotta blow some chunks, find some Packer fans to lap it up for ya...

  • In reply to hollywood1:

How did howard sterns penis taste? Like motza balls?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Gotta agree with everyone. The change will suck moose wang but we'll figure it out. I'd miss all the banter. Big Time. Almost every time I'm on this site I learn something &/or have some laughs. Gotta love that!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

How about somethging from th TRITE CLICHE'S file...

"If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!"

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Here is the new one:

"If it's fixed then break it and fix it again to ensure job security."

Like using blacktop to fix a road instead of pavement.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Gah! My username is taken on Gravatar, and anything close to it. It sucks already.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

You only have to do that if you want your picture to stay..your username should not change

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    wheres that rematch dude?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

what are you two yammering about?

Online smackdown? Why haven't the rest of us been invited? escared?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Everyone else has the "Please hack into me" PS3 and Fres and I have the 360. We play each other in madden a lot.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I told you fool lol I am off saturday sunday and monday.. I will be home friday after two or four.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

So my old username from here would be the same, and they'd just take the avatar from the other site? I like seeing Walter every day ....

    Still a good plan

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

...and within seconds I was on WCG. Ain't that a thing. And guess what, something's in the air in Minneapolis ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Brett?

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Oh jeez, not yet. Goodell will be meeting there with DeMaurice Smith, but the owners and players aren't invited. Could be hammering it out sooner than later ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Brett will be soon though. I see a presser, I see a lip-quivering pause, tears ... "I'm a football player ..."

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Blowin it up like the World Trade hu? Droppin bomns like Hiroshima? Well no matter what the site looks like you fool will be stuck with me and my inane comments! Booyah! (circa 2001)

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

no, progress in the lockout talks between Goodell and Smith.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

In other news, THERE AINT FUCKIN JACK SHIT TO TALK ABOUT. Lol @ some of you who are actually takin this to the ass. haha who cares. Any football news to talk about?

  • In reply to samriepe:

change for the sake of change can be a frustrating thing.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Eh change is inevitable, you fellas will make it work. Who cares about the outage, nothing going til there's a deal anyways. Except for Florio's colonoscopy.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

In that sense James can relate to Bartholomew, of whom Shiancoe says,

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Hatin' on centers? Not me mang. Sure would like a new one though ... and reaaaal soon.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

i love the guys that have the attitude like Dockett. It's all about your peers viewing you as a quality player and less about the money at a certain point. Then there are some dudes that make the money and then coast.

There is nothing better than people in your industry appreciating your skill level and desire to dominate...almost nothing:

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    This attitude ?

BTW - T.O. did his ACL? Good luck.

I'm thinking of switching to Garrett Wolfe's mugshot as my avatar.

  • In reply to gpldan:

  • In reply to gpldan:

    oh yeeeeaaaaahhhhhh

  • In reply to gpldan:

Until they start charging me, I'll post on this site no matter how ugly it is. Definitely fix that no-threaded reply's thing.

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

    God, no shit!

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

I'm a little confused why they are messing with this particular feature. It's like a lawmaker feeling like they have to create a law in order to show people they are actually coming to work each day. Sometimes doing a good job is just shutting the fuck up, sitting in your office and collecting your paycheck while letting things happen as is.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Wise words mang.

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

    Rodgers is also dead

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

When Da' Blog moved from the original site to ChicagoNow, many of us thought it would be the end of Da' Blog, if not the end of the world. It wasn't. It did suck for a while. It will this time too. Especially until we get threaded comments working again.

But that said, I can't imagine a single one of the regulars not being right here when it all shakes out. It will take more than a crappy website to break up this bunch of crazy peoples.

I don't think most of us will give a crap, as long as there is NFL Football this year.

  • In reply to mikev:

And what a beautiful site it was.

  • In reply to mikev:

The changes should be interesting in how we correspond with each other. I'm personally a little nervous about it. I don't like the idea of last comment first showing up. This site is a blog within a blog at times with little mini-threads. I don't want that to change.
If it happens, I think we'll all figure out a way to deal with it. Your all great to interact with. I love the banter, and catching up with the latest posts. If this site was strictly football, I might show up a few months out of the year. I love all the other stuff that is posted. Long live Da Bears Blog!

  • In reply to TheFifth:

There's definitely a special feel to this place. WCG just has too many Nazi rules on there, ultra-conservative and unless you tow the line you're off. I don't really understand what's going to happen with the comment-format on here, but if it's the same guys and gals (where are you Bear Chick?) then I'm down for another season with great fans, a great team, and a clusterfuck of ownership and management.

  • In reply to mikev:

    tru that.

  • In reply to mikev:

Heres a lil something to keep the juice flowing. Olsen interview.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

If Trac's image can move, then someone needs to get GP's image on that last thread and make it there lol!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

These changes suck big monkey-donkey balls - and I'm gonna be cutting and pasting that as my official complaint.

"reverse chronological order" - they mean, that the latest post will be on top so that if one wants to know what the hell is going on and not repeat, they'll have to scroll all the way down to the bottom and read up like they do retardo world? That's how ESPN does it, and that's why I don't interact over there (that and it's filed with some rejects from said retardo world).

They must be trying to discourage posts, activity, interaction (which seems counter intuitive for a business) because they don't want to deal with the tech problems.

No more user accounts?! If we register at gravatar.com they'll prob spam the fuck out of us. I have a feeling if I do so I'm going to be getting viagra emails shortly thereafter.

Man, why do ppl always manage to take a good thing and fuck it up. Is this NFL lock-out mentality contagious or something?

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    +1

But I'll still be here to endure the pain with you biys while these absolute fucktards clean up their mess the wrong way around. Depricating basic features that people just expect just to build it back up months later (hopefully)? Here's an idea morons... leave this site up (as shitty as it is) and build the new one in parallel, then switch them when it's all done.

Jesus, if this actually works, maybe I'll try this with my software instead of the crazy way we do it above. Assbackwards, but if people take it, maybe it's the new way. Sheesh.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    It never stopped Microsoft.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

+1 on screwing up a good thing
+10 on the spam; that's what dummy emails are for

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    1. Is that 'no avatar' thing permanent ? Why?

    2. The reverse order thing mightn't be so bad. Sometimes you log in to a well established thread you've read but it still takes half an hour to get down to the new stuff as somebody has added something to the quantum mechanics section or the latest monetary and financial analysis. Might be just better for us to be able to dive in and go "yes T.O." "No T.O." or whatever.

But why is all this happening anyway Jeff?

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

apologies for my misspellings and bad pronoun references to make me seem like I'm from retardo land, but whatever.

ESPN does have the option of switching to "Older posts first" but it's a bit annoying having to press that every time I go on a particular article and read the comments. But if you don't, and just read the latest from top down, it's like watching "Momento" or that one Jerry Seinfeld episode where it begins with Newman sucking on a small lolipop and ends with him sucking on that same lolipop, only it's big.

    Confusing? exactly.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

We want football! We want football! We want football...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    +1

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I think I'm gonna change my user name for the new site...using my real first name was lazy on my part. Who knew I would still be here 2-3 years later.

  • In reply to Joseph:

good call joe. Get creative. Just tell us who you are on the other site... I mean side... I mean...

  • In reply to Joseph:

I'd like to stay ChicagoNow, and support these guys - but if they blow this place up, I will head over to Bluehost and set phpBB up there. BBS doesn't work quite like this place. Conversations break apart, just look at the Packer backer site. This place has a kinda Gawker site feel with a sort of shitty facebook twist of lime. It keeps us all together on Blogfather's latest half-ass rant.

I hope they don't blow it.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Dude, it's your avatar 'n all but mang, eerytime I see Angela's grin on here ...

And GP, I miss Jimmy. Can we get some Jimmy love on here from somebody's avatar ? Anyone? Bueller?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    + 1 on GP's avatar Irish

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    1. I'll decide if I want a profile on this gravatar thing. WTF is gravtar?

    2. I'll switch it to Jimmy Mac if I do.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Well, I think all those Packer fucktards who descended upon us like a pack of Locusts, and starting impersonating us and changing their Avatars and handles to maximize douchebaggery are being addressed with this stupid Gravatar thing.

Here is how Gravatar makes forging avatar's hard:
    http://en.gravatar.com/site/implement/hash/

ChicagoNow gets to checksum the email address tied in and compare it back against Gravatar's site before allowing the post.

I'm sure the asswipe Packer brigade will just make Yahoo email accounts with fake identities and then tie those to harassing us, but it makes it ever so slightly harder to douche around for the lulz.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I also wanna say that Gravatar sounds like a Japanese Anime cartoon.
