Jay Cutler, Heritage Hills

Since Collinsworth is now taking high school coaching gigs and conceding the NFL will miss half their season, I thought I'd continue the Chicago Bears in High School Video Series.  Here's Jay Cutler's montage of his time at Heritage Hills.  He can also dunk a basketball.  (Watch and see)

  • Jeff, do you think the players should hold out indefinitely until they get what the want?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Ain't touching that one with a 10' pole are ya?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

My answer is a simple no. I think it's insane there's not a compromise to be reached on this. And I think there's not a single element of this deal that should be non-negotiable outside of: (1) for the owners, a hard cap. (2) for the players, health care benefits/pension post playing time.

  • In reply to Jeff Hughes:

Seems to me that whichever way this June 3 appeal goes it's going to force somebody's hand.

Cutler, Hanie and the backs/receivers/TE's gettin together to throw some passes. I like it.

  • Thanks Waffle. My take on that article reading between the lines is that the players want the season to start on time. Nobody wants to miss a paycheck. I take that as an encouraging sign. Lets just hope that they start putting the screws to the players association to get a deal done.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

i think there are owners turning screws on other owners and players turning screws on players reps. One big game of chicken

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Last time the players union got the better deal when they came to terms. The owners won't let that happen again. I guess they figure that the have the resources to recover rather than give up more than they are willing to this time.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    I am not encouraged.

Nice read. I read Uncle Larry's ring around the rosie bs questions. Give me a break. He answered a question about whether the Bears will pursue another 5'8" smurf rb from NWU, whether or not the Bears ever played a game at NWU and whether they will keep Hanie as the #2 QB. Talk about taking the day off after a long weekend. Jeez.

And to your inference... I'd much rather go steril slowly from the radiation than get the TWO shots in my nutsack while I'm upsidedown in the 'baked chicken' position. Which I need to get the courage up to do shortly.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/05/31/nflpa-plans-a-rookie-symposium-of-its-own/

This is why I can't blame the owners for not wanting to put their financial lives in the hands of the average NFL player by giving up too much in the negotiations.

What few people realize is that the rookie symposium covers topics like:

Don't hit the bitch back even though she threw her curling iron at you.

Don't walk out on an unpaid bar tab.

Don't stick your hand up the owners wife's skirt.

    Don't participate in dog fighting.

Buy your self an alarm clock so you can get to work on time.

    Don't drink and drive.

Don't bring your crack pipe to the game.

Sadly, I'm not making this stuff up. They really cover that kinda stuff.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

so should every high school in this country unfortunately.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

They should be groomed, no doubt. Just pointing out where they start is a far cry from where they end up as a journeyman in the league. At some point there has to be a recognition that the League provided the vehicle for them and all most of them had to do was get in and turn the key. I made the mistake of not realizing that when I was in a business situation that mirrored what the players association is now doing. Sometimes it's the combination of the 2, not one or the other.

Most HS players haven't even begun to tap into there skill sets like they do in College. I also had alot of teammates that really didn't have a very good understanding of the game from an x's and o's standpoint.

You know what makes me feel old? Well, besides when my balls touch the toilet water. When I do a movie quote from a movie that I consider to be classic fare. Movies that SHOULD have crossed generational gaps and all other variety of gaps.

Two people in my class had seen Tombstone. Tombstone for crying out loud! The most quotable movie of all time and I can't even use the quotes? There have been others that I can't recall right now. The Big Lebowski. Strange Brew! Many of them HAD seen The Goonies though, so our future's not totally doomed. The good thing about them not having seen the movies, is I can pass the quotes off as my own! When anybody starts a sentence with, "surely...." I'm frothing at the mouth.

Another movie that nobody else seems to have seen, peers included, is the move RAD.

Please tell me somebody has seen that movie and remembers it fondly.

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

i made a list of movies for my wife's cousin and her 18-21 year old friends to watch fucking asap. You'd be sick to your stomach if you knew the movies the youth have not seen. • In reply to ImissButkus:

Foster doesn't deserve his ranking. Call it Mike Anderson syndrome, but this guy needs to show last year wasn't a fluke.

McFadden is mercurial. Even though I got torched for passing on him in the DBB FF league, I would probably pass again on him this year. No RB lasts in Oakland.

Benson > Forte. No, thank you.

Gore deserves the shafting he got in this list, due to his injuries that piled up at the tail end last year.

I'm interested to see if the Lions Best can run again like he did last year. If the Lions develop the passing game, he could have a big year.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Big John Bates Grindshow. John and Brandy (the bass player) are friends. They are out of Vancouver. They used to play punk/psychobilly with 2 burlesque dancers that would come out and shake what they got while the band wailed away. Almost too much fun. The show has changed and is more industrial rock/punk. They still had the dancers last time around but John and Brandy just got married and I'm not sure the dancers will make the cut.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Sounds like a fun show. Glad you're still rockin.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Really a fun show. I've been going to see John for 10 years. I liked the punk/psychobilly stuff better than the new stuff. I understand the changes. He's got a following but it certainly isn't going to the next level. Hopefully he'll get some notoriety and a larger following. They are definitely talented but that doesn't mean much when it comes to popularity. Oh well.

Sorry for all the postings guys. I've had a touch of ecoli or salmonella for the last week or so. The only thing that's working properly right now is my computer.

"Anyone with knowledge of the slave trade and the NFL could say that these two parallel each other" - Rashard Mendenhall, via Twitter today

Way to play that race card, Rashard, right off the bottom of the deck Johnnie Cochran style...

  • In reply to gpldan:

Sounds like he wants out of Pittsburg.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Rashard INSISTS on using twitter to confirm that he is a complete tool.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

He must have missed the rookie symposium.

    2. Tombstone the most quotable? For me, couldn't go beyond "I'll be yo huckleberry". I gotta go Ferris, Pulp Fiction, maybe a Friday, O Brother, Lebowski, Godfather, Airplane, Dumb and Dumber.... That's just how I was raised.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

I don't know how it goes Stateside, but Monty Python's Life of Brian is by far the most quoted in the Queen's English or otherwise. Monty Python and the Holy Grail would be a close second, followed by the Monty Python's The Meaning of Life.

I personally use a lot of quotes from:
The Holy Grail, Napolean Dynamite, Princess Bride, Guide to the Galaxy, Space Odyssey and many punchlines from Dane Cook jokes.

This guy, a Sports Law Prof at Yale, is doing the best work in analyzing the situation.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/michael_mccann/06/02/nfl-hearing/

The season is coming down to an arcane interpretation/reading of Norris-LaGuardia, signed in 1929. Brilliant.

If Olsen falters in getting the two judges swayed, the players will openly forment dissent, starting in the papers and interviews, moving to tv interviews and open calls for a union to re-form. If the 8th declares the NFLPA disbandment as bogus, then this thing is over and expect an 18-game season and rook wage scale to be the start of a new CBA.

The weird thing is, the NFL could win this - knucklehead players who need baby-mama money will scream to get back to playing so they can get paid, and yet Brady v. NFL will still get played out next year, and the court could find that the NFL's lockout was illegal.

Since CBAs formed between unions and ownership groups are exempt from Sherman Act considerations, almost all of this hinges on if the union de-cert was bogus or not.

    Also, Cutler is still #6.

People get attached to numbers. Numerology. Shit like that.

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP, What does the 6 tell you other than he needs to act like he's older than that when he's on the sideline?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Much depends on if his mother wore 9. Oedipal QBs have the biggest downsides when the pressure is on, as we saw...

  • In reply to gpldan:

So you are saying he wants to have sex with his mother?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I'm saying I want to have sex with your mother.

It's cool in an office after-hours, but playing with strangers over the internet and shouting "Alpha ! Go! Go! GO!" as a grown man with children just doesn't appeal to me.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Once again, the casualties keep mounting. This is THE story guys. When everyone finally figures out that it's more painful to continue this work stoppage, we will remain in limbo. My hope is that all parties face up to the reality that nobody wins with a lost season.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/01/dbrickashaw-ferguson-sounds-resigned-to-losing-his-750k-workout-bonus/

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Everyone - meaning lower tier players.

This is owner strategy now - pit the players against each other. Brady and Manning aren't giving their jack away to keep the bubble players floating in champagne.

Eventually, this strategy will work. The Braylon Edwards of the world, the Cromarties - they have child support payments to make. Late summer, it will all fall apart for the players. They can't hold together to see a court victory to the end, even though any Anti-Trust lawyer will tell you the owners are sunk.

The 8th court upholding the lockout was all the owners needed. Had they been forced to open shop, they would have fallen back and regrouped for 2013. Now, they can stay the course and the union will need to re-form and they will get what they want, or at least most of it.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I hardly consider losing a 750K workout bonus lower tier GP. That's alot of Ya Ya to chuck out the window.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

And he'll be one more voice saying publically to "end this thing" and privately expressing doubt in Demaurice.

  • In reply to gpldan:
