Draft Rounds Two & Three: Bears Pick 62, 93

I think most of us expect the Bears to look defensive tackle in the second round and possibly "steal" wideout in the third. You know my preference. Live and die blockers tonight.

  • First to say let's get a 1st round sleeper!

    .........Round 2 Hot Spots........

    Since I

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    well done

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    Damn, neglected to put up

    (5.50) Rodney Hudson (C/G).

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

The Lions are going to be a force this year

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

that's a bit strong, but they have been drafting incredibly well 2 yrs running.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

They have a coach the players really believe in, and they played pretty good last season. Keep Stafford healthy and they are going to be an over 500 team.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Hmmmm......I'd agree with you except that Stafford is fucking dead.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

With those shoulder injuries he's gonna be the NFC north Chad Pennington

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I heard this song b4 "Lions are gonna go from worst to first" blah blah...remember last year, they were supposed to be second, and us last in our div?

I'll believe it when I see it.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

There is no doubt the lions SHOULD do well but they play us and gb twice so there's 4 losses right there. We have 2 solid picks right now, we will hit free agency and we already have a top 7 rated defense. We also have a gunslinger and a 6'2 running back that is better than 40 percent of receivers in the league

  • In reply to hollywood1:

We were very close to losing to them last year waffle. They have a better OL/DL, WR, just drafted a banger of a RB, top safety, top QB, I'm scared.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Paging Dr. peppers, your wanted in the "about to cause surgery wing"

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Packers pick another WR...fantastic.

  • In reply to Joseph:

That meaNs they aren't bringing jones back. Driver is also 51yrs old and ended last season hurt.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

We should sign Jones a la Chester Taylor and then ram him down their throats for Christmas.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I guess my summary knock is that he's not a OL guys.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

At least it means we are bringing in a WR in free agency

  • In reply to hollywood1:

yeah, Jerry better have a great fucking FA man. We also still need a solid LT, 2 guards and a center. Oh shit, right?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Damn MB, I wish I was sitting in some bar having a couple Beers with you during this draft! There isn't a guy on here has more passion for the Bears. They do something you don't agree with and I believe you feel real pain my friend. I'd have a fucking ball sitting and playing devils advocate role with you. Keep the faith brother, we are getting better.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Ha. I'm just focused Murph... I'm not going to pop a vein man.

Just don't like what jerry does to this team. No plan, no focus, no sense in my estimation. Can we all agree on this Murph:

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/draft-2011/players/53639.html

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    OT/G/C Update:

    (6.01) Mike Pouncey (Drafted)1st
    (5.97) Danny Watkins (Drafted)1st
    (5.76) Marcus Canon (T/G?)
    (5.63) Clint Boling (G)
    (5.62) Will Rackley (G)
    (5.57) Marcus Gilbert (T/G?) - drafted 2nd
    (5.54) Orlando Franklin (T/G?) - drafted 2nd
    (5.50) Rodney Hudson (C/G) - drafted 2nd
    (5.39) Stefen Wisniewski (C/G)- drafted 2nd
    (5.35) David Arkin (G)
    (5.35) John Mottif (G)

For those of you who wanted Mottif, he might be around when we select. LBs and Safeties might be targeted in this round, and a lot of teams used their first two rounds to get oline.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    Will Rackley (G) drafted 3rd
    John Mottif (G) drafted 3rd

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'll agree with that, lets grab that big ass Wisconsin center.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I hear ya but to think that all these rookies would somehow come in just be inserted on the line to protect cutler is unrealistic. We need to draft o line again next year and hit free agency both years. Rome wasn't built in a day but damn if we didn't play like Romans at times last year.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I agree, but you can't build a structure without getting the building blocks. I didn't expect every pick to start, but you gotta get 'em first don't you?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Indeed

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    I smell a JA Linebacker/Special teamer coming.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

That sir, would be a bozo move with solid Olineman still available.

I wouldn't mind a LB or CB in the later rounds, but not the 3rd. No way. Martez Wilson from Illinois is the only one I would've drafted in this round, and he's already gone to the Saints.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

    Casey Matthews ?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

ok, I'm done. I really will shut up now. I've made my pov clear.

If we had to pick dline, Paea was the right pick.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    It's all on Jerry mang.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Ryan Mallet a Pat. Wow.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

This just in - Bellichick is a genius.

He now has two first round picks and two second round picks next year.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

That my friends is how you do that. 'Drafting' by Bill Belichek.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And he'll probably turn that into two first round picks and two second round picks.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Man, I can't believe there's still a run at DL in round 3! I knew the crop was deep, but damn! Also a run at DB in the 3rd.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    Another safety

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Well boys and Girls just got back and WTF!!!!!! MB I'm with you Glitchy couldn't help his fucking self had to go DT/DB what a fuck! you are a fucking moron JA.

I'm pissed and out tell I get to Chicago and put a hickory stick to JA..FUCK ME!!!

Need to protect our QB and he goes D..you bitch, you mother f%@#^%^%@^ng, sucking $#!@$#!@#%^!@#$%^!#$@!#

I see you gents tomorrow you BLIND FUCKING SQUIRREL(JA)!

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

JA couldn't help himself. He HAD to pick a project Dback.

Chris Conte converted LB -> FS/SS. He's pretty fast, tough, and a good tackler, but I would've felt A LOT better going OG here.

I guess we know which way we're going in FA. OG.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    Fucking Projects........ugh

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

I hope he turns out better than Steltz.

  • In reply to Joseph:

It won't because it's the "Glitchy"...fucking projects JA you moron.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Best QB of this crop maybe? I knew someone would get a steal with Mallet.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Moffit gone

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Somewhere in cheese land cormonster is trying to cut his wrists with a pink bic razor.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It would have been nice to possibly see the Wisconsin boys next to each other

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Seahawks suck

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    There go the guards

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

There's still Clint Boiling and David Arkin, Murph. Lesser known, but might be good.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

You can tell mike Lombardi and la canfora never played football

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    maybe electronic football..

  • In reply to hollywood1:

New thread... actually, two new threads.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Looks like Boiling would be a good choice. Lot of starts for Georgia, good size.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

If Clint Boiling (G) falls to us, that would be a very good value pick.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

We'll see dude. I had him written off before the draft based on the negatives in his report. There's a bunch of guys with strength, but Paea doesn't have football instincts they say, and those can't be taught. I like the position addressed, I don't like the sound of him. We'll see. The fkn safety is what gets me, was there not a decent guard available?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

The real Bears were the Redskins, Seahawks and Giants games for me. That's where our roster is at really. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and we're playing with some real daisies.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

"we like who we have at wide receiver and we'll go from there."

    It's burned into brain.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I thought they would be this year, but they lost their QB. Still put up big numbers. Three dog fight next year.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

MB, looks like you might be on an island not liking that pick. The consensus here so far is everyone seems to like the pick. Do you dislike the pick that much, of is it your hate of JA? Be honest, don't sugarcoat it!

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Ok, I

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

The Lions are coming, that is a fact.

I like both our picks so far, even though I am not sure about what we gave up to move up.

    See ya at 93...

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

There you go Irish - you get to see Leshoure two time a year now lol

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

He'll hurt us man, don't ya just know it. I like their line and their backfield, and their S, WR, QB, DL oh shit ....

  • Hot from twitter:

    GabeCarimi
I'm thinking changing my nick name to "The Bear Jew" how about it bear nation?? Lol

  • In reply to skjaeveland:

Ha Ha the JewBear! If he treats the FudgePackers like The JewBear treated the Nazis, I'd be very happy.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    BearJew, I mean.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

As for DT, Marvin Austin and Paea would be nice, but realistically I see Jurell Casey or Christian Ballard perhaps on the board when it's our turn.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Can Bowers and Austin actually slide to us? wow...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    85b4e..we still need an O-lineman!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I know, but Bowers would arguably have been a number one OVERALL pick, if it weren't for injury concerns

And Austin a top 3DT perfect for a 4-3, if it weren't for his character concerns!

    Tempting...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    tommie II

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Tommie was a terror in his first 3 years, which is right about the span of our SB window.

I still want an OG, but man, it's like choosing a mini-van you need over that convertible on the show room.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

can't fit two kids and a dog into a sports car 85.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If ur a clown you can!

What if Paea is still on the board? You know, the guy who benched 225 49times....hmmmm

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Ho.Ly.Sheite.Muslim!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    TAKE A FUCKING OG!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Jesus, we already have a fucking tongan DT!!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Trade up! Here comes Paea...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    what did we give up?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    TORN MENISCUS

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Once Bowers and Austin were gone, it must have lit a fire under JAs ass.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I dont hate that pick. So i`m happy with the to first rounds.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    temporary stay for nfl. jesus

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    FML

  • In reply to skjaeveland:

    indeed norwie

  • In reply to skjaeveland:

    wtf!?!? Uhhhh... ok.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

"K. Rudolph is like Grownoski, but without the blocking" Ha ha...we should've just traded them Olsen, and got that pick.

    Oh ya, no trades.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

vikes up next... pick some random shit pls

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    It's a stay of a stay lol

They just want to press pause while they review the validity of the stay appeal

    lawyers...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Fuck, would have LOVED to have added that dude. Huge.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

a guard or a center, that's it please.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

all I can say tonight may the football Gods be with "Glitchy" the fine blind squirrel:

    http://ironfiremen.com/files/2010/12/blind-squirrel-finds-a-nut1.jpg

  • In reply to skjaeveland:

Here's a nice nugget from Kirwan:

"The draft's first round saw 12 defensive linemen and eight offensive linemen go in the first 32 picks, meaning the highest-graded players remaining aren't likely at those positions. There are still as many as eight teams in search of a quarterback, but only three worthy of a Day 2 selection. I expect a number of teams to trade up in Round 2 to grab a quarterback, or risk losing out and hoping free agency and trading is back on the table.

I have the Bills, Bengals, Cards, Redskins, 49ers, and Seahawks still in the hunt for a cheap qb. Hopefully, they all reach for one ala Vikings, which would leave more value on the board for everyone else, esp us.

  • GabeCarimi
On the road to chi town! so stoked to be a bear!

  • Can someone please stop Angelo from getting to the draft today? I'm pretty sure he is completely incapable of making two decent draft choices in a row. I do hope to see O-line but I could easily see Angelo picking up a D-lineman or even a safety. And with how poorly Maynard was kicking last season I wouldnt be surprised if we came out of the later rounds with a new kicker. I know I know... I'm a Maynard hater as of late but last season was ugly.

  • In reply to Jlehr:

It's ironic that the only reason the Bears get a quality first round pick is because J.A. fucked up.

    Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

I dont even have to reply do I 85B

  • A fourth. The fourth the Ravens wanted to get for JAs fuck up! lol

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    and our second, naturally.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Would rather have had austin, didn't paea tear his knee about 2 months ago?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

That's the other thing. Knee questions. Tommie Harris. Oh shit.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Texans making a fucking run on defense

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    Rodney Hudson scouting report.

Positives: Very athletic and can move his feet, pull, trap and work in space. Knows how to work his hips on the edge and seal off defenders. Is patient in pass protection, sets strong and can shock with his punch. Very strong-handed. Outstanding technician. Wins with quickness and balance

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

He only tore a miniscus and they say he is over it and has no lasting effects.

  • dont like the pick... we need a guard and/or Center man. fucken a.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Don't sweat it MB. The T/G/C position may not be flashy this year, but it's deep. Some of those guys I listed at the beginning may very well still be on the board when we pick in the 3rd.

Also, there are gonna be some FA guards available for us. I'm specifically thinking of Robert Gallery from the Raiders (who drafted Wisniewski for a reason).

    Paea is a solid pick.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

I'm worried about the pool-boy effect working here. Jerry is on Youtube and sees whateverhisnamwas jump out of a pool and goes 'whoa!'. Drafts him. Sees Paea push a bunch of reps and does the same. The list of benchpressing kings at the combine is not a list of impressive footballers - they did a piece on it on Total Access. But we do need a TH replacement and Melton isn't that guy.

A safety in the third is a head-scratcher though.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

man, and we passed on Rodney Hudson fucking why?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Short arms

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

but he's on OFFENSIVE LINE not deffensive line Murph, so there's that.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Holy fuck, the Lions just got a helluva lot better in 1 draft

  • In reply to Joseph:

just like last year. They've been kicking ass and taking names for the last two years. Just smart.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Fair to say they deserve a good team?

  • In reply to Joseph:

Got the best rb in the draft I think, and the Pats got the best QB maybe.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

still not into it 85, we already have stephen paea on the fucking roster. Should have taken Rodney Hudson man.

GThere is NO doubt the lions are worlds better than us in the draft. Those guys are getting nasty.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I have to disagree with you here MB. Toe might be from Oregon, Samoa and has a high motor, but Paea is more athletic.

And don't forget, we can't let Rodgers just sit back there and hit their WRs at will like in the Championship game.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

meh... so why do you think Paea is more athletic? Because he's a monster in the weight room?

The weight room doesn't mean shit on sundays man. Take a look at urlacher without a shirt... not rocked at all, big, bit not overly muscular. It's all about on field talent man. Just don't see paea being exponentially 'more' than Toe.

...I hope I'm wrong, but I thought a DT in the 4th would have been the better call. We need to stack our line with young prospects man. I'm sticking to my oline mantra.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Especially with the way the Lions DL looks now - we should be adapting to that shit in-draft.

  • does anyone know what we gave up? Has to be a lot with JA

  • In reply to MB30SD:

We gave up our second and 4th...

    I suspected this would happen...

The BT (Tice included) is confident with the young guys on the club at the guard position, and Marinelli is said to love Peaea.

    I like both picks.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

    like he loved Gains adams?

Going on the record as saying we just gave up a 6th for a guy we already have on the roster.

Still not buying it. Busted second rd pick... paea might not end up a bust, but not picking another OL is.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Flag is thrown on trashing a dead Bear.

I think the BT is confident that one of these guys will develop in their second year in the system: Asiata, Edwin Williams, Lance Louis, and Herman Johnson.

A D-Line without depth flourishes in the first qtr and flounders in the 4th.

I'm glad they did not pick a fucking Safety/QB..

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

no way did I trash adams man. Just said he wasn't a great pick in the first place, not for a 2nd man.

With you on the QB thing... not sure about picking up a strong CB.

I get the dline thing... never mind. You guys get where I'm coming from.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

There go all the good WR's

  • In reply to MB30SD:

And we don't get to pick a guard until the 5th, right?

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

We know Jeff likes Asiata now. That's two of us.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I like that pick. High motor they are saying and could bench press a house. He gives our shitty corners some extra time to get beat by the slant ;)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

His pedigree looks pretty good to me. Wasn't he projected to possibly go in the 1st at one time? Might be a very good replacement for TH.

  • Wow, did ESPN screw that pick up. Luckily, the NFL Network showed the Sack Man - who is still looking good I must say.

I like this Paea guy. He's going to need a new number though. Two for two....the next one is going to suck.

  • We only hyad six picks. Now just a 3rd and 5th.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

we gave up a 4th and a 6th? For fucking a guy we already have???? Fuck man! Not happy.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

No. We gave up our 2nd and fourth of this draft. We have the 3rd,5th,6th. Phone didn't take the 6th.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Gave up the 4th to move up a couple spots?

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I knew this Jerry thing was too good to be true, dammit.
