Things to know:
  1. You can not select any of the three players you selected for the Wild Card round.
  2. My goal is to eliminate half the field this week.  So tiebreakers will come into play.
  3. I will not be as quick with the updated standings as I was last week since I'll be nowhere near a computer for most of the day Sunday.  (Hopefully I'll start drinking heavily at 4:15 PM EST in a celebratory mode.)
  4. Starting next week, the picks will be submitted to me via e-mail, as the strategy becomes interesting.  I'll explain this more as we celebrate the Seahawks win (knock on everything) and prepare for the NFC Championship Game.
Submit your picks below.  You have until 4:00 PM EST (3:00 PM CST) Saturday to get your names in.

  • First ! Beatches!

  • QB Hasselbeck
    HB Shonn Greene
    WR Mike Williams

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Mike Williams?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    QB-Jay Cutler
    RB-Matt Forte
    WR-Johnny Knox

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I'm worried. ESPN seems to feel that Cutler may throw too many picks this weekend due to his NFL highest ranking for throwing high risk passes. Very troubling. I hope the Seahawks players don't see this article.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/22642/bears-and-hawks-questioning-the-blitz

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Sorry pal, you just got eliminated.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

You don't think the Seahawks know Cutler takes chances?

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

Yes but according to ESPN the Seahawks win with both strategies the use of max pressure and zone coverage. According to ESPN, the Seahawks win if the Bears are blitzed a lot because of the bad protection and they win if they don't cause Cutty throws too many high risk passes when going against the zone. I sure hope ESPN is wrong.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That doesn't even make sense. The Bears have been facing endless blitzes for the last nine weeks and have handled them well. And Cutler's picks this season - specifically the 4 against the Skins, the pick 6 against the Jets - have come as much in man coverage as zone.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

I believe that Trac is being facetious Jeff.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You believe very rightamondo. Finally getting over my cold. Feeling kinda Frrrriiiisky

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I'm not busting Trac's balls. But that article does actually say that. And it's sort of insane.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    ESPN? Insane?

    BLASPHEMER!

    HERETIC!

    Stone him!

    STOOOONE HIM!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Bears over skankhawks
    Steelers over Ravens
    Cheese over Falcons
    Patsy's over Fat Boy

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I actually think Baltimore has a good chance this weekend. I have argued this with my Steeler-fan husband overlunch. He thinks I am nuts.

I can't stand the Fat Boy, but wouldn't it be great to see the smarmy smugness of Tom Terrific take a big hit? Oh, I would just LOVE IT. J E T S, Jets, Jets, Jets!!!!

It's all AFC, so who really cares anyway? :)

  • In reply to sjvl:

    Last week I was 1 for 3.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Actually I think I was 0 for 4.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Knocking on everything, Jeff!!!

    My Picks:

QB: Big Ben Rape Foot Roethlisberger

    RB: Shonn Greene

WR: Greg Jennings (hate him, but he's good)

Didn't pick anyone from our game. No jinx here.....

    GO BEARS!!!!!

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

I think the only game that matters is the one in Cutler's head. If he stays cool as Joe Montana like he did in quite a few games this season, we win. Period.

If he gets a case of the Favres, our season will end similarly - in disgrace.

All other prognostications for this game are superfluous IMO...

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

put the crooked pipe down Trac.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    According to ESPN ...... ahhh.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    QB Aaron Rogers Packers (BOOOO!!!)
    RB Tomlinson Jets
    WR/TE Mike Williams Chickens (BOOOOO!!!)

Mostly b/c I think (hope, in terms of the Slack) these three teams gonna lose, and these are the best 3 skill players from each team that I can find.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Worst picks ever.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    are you even trying?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I actually think Irish isn't drinking as much koolaid as us. Great Scott, what if he's right?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

You know that Martz is going to dial up some stuff to take advantage of the hawks jumping our short routes. This game of chess is going to be fun to watch. As long as we run the ball at least 40% of the time we win this game. Bennett, Olsen, Knox, DA, Scrappy and Hester need to step up and get open. Forte is going to do special things as well and should be used on the run and pass.
I want some Daniel Manning blitzes too but i think their passing game is too quick so we have to rely on our front 4 getting a rush and getting their hands up in the passing lanes. Contain Williams and no big pass plays over the top. make them earn every yard. Beastmode will be gang tackled on every play. One or two guys on the legs and one stripping that ball away. our boys are going to go hard to the ball but we can't over pursue the play. It is on. This game is our destiny this year. Cutler will come through in the clutch.
To all the Packers fans out there. I would worry less about talking shit on the blog and worry more about the fact that you are playing a team that beat you last time. That is going to be one awesome Saturday of games. Sunday will be our finest hour setting up the greatest modern day NFC Championship in recent memory.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

The over-pursue line is the one I worry about most. The D needs to stick to their assignments and not get over-aggressive. Contain the edges. When the D plays disciplined, they play great. They have to stop the misdirection plays.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

It's gonna get tougher to pick fantasy players as the defenses will keep getting better. I better think on this one.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Jeff, can we please have a losers bracket on the fantasy picks. Please, please, please. I got shafted last week. It was a conspiracy. I want to be the best loser. Please, pretty please. I hate groveling.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    No.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

I won't ever mention ESPN again.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Regarding that four-letter word: Just saw that Simmons--who I used to like but who now seems to think that he's more interesting than the sports he writes about--is picking the Seahawks over the Bears (33-30) based in part...wait for it...wait for it...on Rick Reilly's psychologically insightful articie on Jay Cutler's personality. Talk about a circle jerk.

  • In reply to jj320:

it will actually be fun to read the pundits defiantly defending their incorrect positions on the bears and cutler after this victory. When we win it will obviously be because of the letdown of the hawks emotional victory the week before, the terrible field conditions and certainly not the Bears performance. This weekend needs to get here now. right now.

  • In reply to jj320:

last post of the day until gametime:

I'm proud of the Bears. I'm excited for this game and i know they will do well. FINEST HOUR.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I wish I could drink some of that squirrel-skin uber beer in your avatar.

  • In reply to jj320:

    QB: Ben Rapelisberger
    RB: Michael Turner
    WR: Wesley Stephen Welker

  • In reply to jj320:

Re-post from another thread...Just to make sure.
My Picks for the next round:
    QB = B. Roethlisberger (Steelers)
    RB = J. Starks (GB)
    WR = D. Driver (GB)

  • In reply to Reichwolff:

I assume you're picking Starks to run wild to help the cause for Angelo to get fired lol

  • In reply to jj320:

Fellow Bloggers... it's been a while since i posted but i thought you would all appreciate this.

My wife is due to give birth on Sunday. Possibly interrupting gametime.

As an honor to this date... our son's name has been officially decided.

    Elliott Cutler Walsh.

    BEAR DOWN!!!!!

  • In reply to pizzatime7:

    Flag!

    Illegal procedure!

I think a REAL Bear fan would have taken precaustions against baby-making 9 months before prospective Bear playoff game times! Should have used "protection" until at least late May.

Maybe the call should be "Illegal Motion"?

    How about, "Illegal Formation"?

    LOL.

Sorry, pizzatime, but I couldn't resist.

    (That's what SHE said!)

    Congratulations!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yeah, how were you thinking about sex nine months before the playoffs, Pizza? It beggars belief. Congrats though. I'm guessing Elliot is named for the dude in E.T. and ... no ... I'm not getting the Cutler reference. Was your grand-daddy a craftsmen of fine dining ware?

  • In reply to pizzatime7:

priceless if she lets you get away with it. It's kind of like getting a tattoo or a players jersey though. If Cutler gets traded Elliot will still be called Cutty by all of his friends. that's kind of permanent and exactly the type of Bears love that i respect. BEAR DOWN!!!!!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    WOOT!! Congratz!!

    BEAR THE %&^$ DOWN!!!

    GO LITTLE CUTTTY GOOOOOO!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Wife has approved. It's only right.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I'm king of the losers...if anyone can get less than 6 points total they can take my crown....Where the fuck is Crown?

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    I dunno...six points? I think that's like a 70wins basket season, or a no hitter...rare lol

  • In reply to pizzatime7:

seriously? yo that's tiiiiight. good luck into fatherhood, man.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I preffer Elliot Luckman Walsh. Has a better ring to it and it will help if he ever wants to go into showbiz.

  • In reply to Jlehr:

    James McMahon Walsh.
    Walter Payton Walsh. Hey!
    Elliot Butkus Walsh.
    Elliot HeHateMe Walsh ?

  • In reply to pizzatime7:

    QB - Tom Brady
    RB - Michael Turner
    WR - Santonio Holmes

See if I can join the loser's bracket this time. Almost made it last week!

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    Gutsy pick going with Brady.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

Agreed, I wouldn't touch that one.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

He just doesn't want to be a "LOSER", yet.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Especially since the Jets are winning Sunday.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Dave, can I have some of whatever you're smoking sir?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Best possible outcome for us when we go to Dallas MB. Let it ride.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Not interested Trac... if we get to the show, we need it to be a 25 year anniversary rematch.

Beating the mighty Pats in the SB 25 years after we beat the crap out of them will be the only way for the 2010 Bears to get the respect they deserve.

Can you imagine how pumped our boys would be for that monumental game? My god, I would be so incredibly pumped man. Wow.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Only problem with your take MB is that the Bears aren't as good as the 85 Bears and the Patsy's are better than the 85 Patriots. Not that we can't beat the Pats on a good day, just that the Steelers would be a better matchup in my opinion. What a Smash Mouth game that would be.

  • In reply to pizzatime7:

If his name is Elliot they might call him Bill.

    Bill Walsh.

    Not working for me.

Can you change your last name to Ditka?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Elliot equals Bill? I did not know that.

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

    Billy Elliot?

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

    QB - Rodgers
    WR - Hester
    RB - Tomlinson

  • In reply to pizzatime7:

Best of luck to you and your family, pizza.

My son's middle name is Michael - after Ditka, Jordan and, well, Mick Jagger, but you get the drift.

When they told me to 'bear down' I laughed - kind of.....

  • In reply to sjvl:

Priceless, sj, priceless. "Now breathe... and *push*"

  • In reply to Mastodon:

For those of you guys who call Forte mediocre, here's a couple factoids courtesy of the AP:

"He was fifth in the NFL at 5.8 yards per carry over the final six games, and his career-high 4.5 average for the season was the best by a Bears running back with 200 attempts since Neal Anderson in 1989 (4.7).

The late surge gave Forte 1,069 yards rushing to go with 547 receiving, putting him alongside Walter Payton as the only Chicago players with at least 1,000 and 500 in the same season."

I note that he managed 4.5 ypc for the season despite a slow start, an OL considered by most as between mediocre and adequate that struggled a large fraction of the season, and an OC whose specialty and focus is the passing game. Yet, he had a season better than anyone since Neal Anderson.

Throw on top of that the 500 yards of receptions as a bonus, to achieve yet again a 1600 total yard season for the second time in his 3 year career. Let's appreciate what we've got gentlemen (and ladies!).... Heck, he may well get even better if the OL improves.

  • In reply to 750mL:

thank you. i've been advocating Matty's ridiculous talent since coming on the board.

  • In reply to 750mL:

    on a basketball note:

if y'all are Bulls fans, i HIGHLY SUGGEST you start watching these 2010-11 Bulls. they are a special squad in need of a legit SG (which they are in no rush for). D-Rose is a fucking MADMAN on the court (Rook of the Year his 1st year, All-Star 2nd year, MVP Candidate 3rd Year) w/ a strong, young nucleus at the helm. also, Tibs (Tom Thibodeau - 1st year HC, 30+ year NBA assistant) has them playing defense at an unbelievable level (something the fans can appreciate).

    don't say i didn't warn you....

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I need to start watching them - every time I decide to turn on a Bulls game, Rose is busting someone's achilles.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Ben roesthlisberger
    matt forte
    Greg Jennings

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Jay cutler
    Danny woodhead
    mike Wallace

  • In reply to brocklanders:

    Go fuck yourself.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Matt Ryan
    Matt Forte
    Santonio Holmes

  • In reply to FQD1911:

QB Ben-d over the toilet Roethlisberger
    HB Michael the churner Turner
    WR/TE Roddy good night White

I too have grown quite fond of the saturday show too. The music often makes my chihuahuas howl, the picks sometimes make me scratch my head, and the reverend's obscenity-laced rants always gives me catharsis.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I can't wait till Joakim gets back. That kid plays with all his heart. He has great energy and his attitude brings something extra to the table. What he lacks in talent he more than makes up with the intangibles.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Want to see the bloggers / regular fans rise up and kick sports journalism in the nads?

This douchenozzle (thanks mikebdot!) over at CBS website was thrown a few bucks to write a slam piece on Jay Cutler, which I am now pretty sure is an orchestrated attack by the major media outlets since it is so widespread yet uniform in tone.

    http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/01/14/wisch-jay-cutler-the-punk-qb-does-chicago-deserve-better/

Now look at the comments. Hilarious. They roast the guy, and he comes in and tries to defend himself as just a regular joe and ot a shill on the take, and nobody buys it.

Dave Wischnowsky is his name. Remember that for future douchenozzle shit from his piehole.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Holy shit that Dave clown gets thrashed. You have to give the guy credit for at least responding back. What a fucking HACK!! This made my morning! Nice find

  • In reply to 750mL:

It doesn't get said enough, Jefe, but the Saturday shows this year have been a real highlight for me. I give you major props on upping the ante this year on what was already the finest sports blog on the internet. If not the finest blog period. I'd fight for it. The songs? The songs have been epic. Clearly handcrafted by His Bloginess, and sung as well. You put your heart into it, I can see that. And Rev? Dude, Rev. Man that guy can spit some venom. I freaking love it. So right about the Starks thing. Guy had one good game so far. Against a weak Eagles defense. Please. But your rants Rev, remind me of some of the shit I used to hear on Rome. I know some people don't like Jim Rome, but his call-in Clone takes can be priceless, and your rants are every bit as epic. Alright, enough blowing you guys. But props mang.

As for the media conversation some of you had earlier, you're all spot on. Except for that razzledazzle poser who came on here, or whatever the fuck his name is. But seriously, how can we expect sports journalists to be held accountable for pieces that are basically just commentary on something as trivial as entertainment, when we can't even hold "real" journalists accountable. Seriously. How much do we really ever hear from our media about important shit? Passing mention of two wars we've been in for years, never any real INFORMATION. It's pretty clear to me. The higher ups and corporate money mongers have figured out that you can control the masses in a democracy by keeping them uninformed. It's simple propaganda by distraction. When we do hear news, it's based in fear rhetoric. Clearly another form of propaganda population control that has been used and worked for centuries. This society is no different. And then you get people who do try to get to the bottom of shit and they're labeled conspiracy theorists and crack jobs. Seriously pisses me off. But we don't do anything about it. Why? Because they also know that if they keep us just spoiled enough and just poor enough that we'll be to content and or too busy trying to make ends meet to do anything about it, if we happen to be awake and smart enough to notice things are wrong. Shit just pisses me off. I say we DO something about it. But how? I'll join a revolution if anyone wants to start one. (If you don't ever hear from me again, you'll know why).

    On to Football,

I gotta say. As excited as I am, and as confident in victory that I am, I find myself much more reserved than I was in 2006 at this time. Guess that would be early 2007. But before our divisional game with these very same Seahawks that year, I KNEW we were going to the dance. I just knew it. I knew it all season long. Even as Rexy was trying to prove me wrong. But this time? This time, I don't know, I guess because I thought they would suck this year, I find myself not so sure if any of this is for real. Even if the evidence does point to it being real. And what OF the evidence? Look, I'm as sick and tired as you guys of the media and nation in general calling us lucky. But when you look at the evidence, it does support it somewhat. No injuries. No freaking injuries? Seriously? Meanwhile, nearly every weak the team we played had some kind of problem or another. Usually injury related. We caught a lucky rule-based break on the Calvin Johnson catch in week 1. If not for that, we may not even be IN the playoffs. The breaks just kept coming from there. I'd say, save for the Phili game, the first GB game, and maybe one or two others, we didn't have any wins where I just said, "shit, this team really IS good". Maybe it's Martz and my genuine distrust for him. Maybe it's Lovie. Maybe it's the line. I think we'll win this Sunday, and we could win the next one. The Superbowl is gonna be tough if we have to play NE or Pittsburgh for sure and Baltimore is no pushover, but we can win. In 2006 I was sure we WOULD win. So mandamn it. I hope like hell we put on a clinic on Sunday so I can regain that feeling.

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

I'll take luck all the way to Dallas, and there too!

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

The media hasn't gotten to me. I ALWAYS like the Bears and head into every game thinking/hoping they will win. I am not a doubter until after a game is lost - and even then, I can point to a number of things that were good - all but the score.

I'm not a lemming, I am realistic. But I don't buy into what anyone says about how this isn't real, or it's all luck. That's bullshit.

    GO BEARS!!!!!!!

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

Good points about the media Doc. Michael Crichton's State of Fear talks about controlling the people through fear. I'm with Sofia Jane on being eternally optimistic about the beloved Bears.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    Yay, Cor!

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Go directly to the source Cor. Noam Chomsky - Manufacturing Consent, its basic premise being that "The War on Terror" has replaced 1950s Anti-Communism in order to keep people united in false fear.

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

Just to be clear, it's not that I'm not optimistic or that I think we will lose. On the contrary, I think we've got more than a punchers chance. It's just that I don't have that samie feeling I did at this time in 2006. Could it just be defense mechanisms?

  • In reply to DocNitty34:

The Eagles were hot shit when they came into us, Vick was the most dangerous QB ever and still hadn't got a turnover. Spanked. We spanked the Jets, who just beat the Pats in the playoffs. It's spanking time.

  • In reply to 750mL:

How about the ride...wait until about a minute into the video..it's worth the wait:

  • In reply to nicholsra:

That is the car of my dreams, lobo. Damn.

  • In reply to 750mL:

He has run remarkably well as of late, hopefully he keeps it going. He's a pretty deceptive runner. He'll get stuffed, he'll get stuffed, then suddenly, he's like 40 yards down field and we're screaming at the tv "go! go! go!"

Someone always seems to catch him from behind though, usually right at the one...

  • In reply to 750mL:

And since we're on journalism, I know more or less who we all hate, but who do you guys actually like?

    The answers should be interesting...

I like Pat Kirwan on NFL.com for his analysis, but he's horrible at forecasting games. Don't know that disparity happens, but his articles usually make an interesting point or two.

Bill Plaschke for the L.A. times is good too, though he doesn't solely focus on football.

Nolan Nawrocki for Profootballweekly (P.F.W.) is AWESOME for draft info. His last boards for mock drafts are spot on (more so than ole helmet head Kiper or McShay), and his dissection of prospects are in depth and insightful.

Anyhow, thought I'd ask. This thread my end soon, so maybe I'll repost cuz I'd like to see who you guys vouch for.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Yep, I like Pat Kirwan, Gil Brandt, Tim Ryan...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

    HeGone!

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    +1

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    QB - Aaron Rodgers

    RB - Benjarvus Green-Ellis

    WR - Mike Williams

  • In reply to Shady:

So much Mike Williams love - I do not get it.

Peanut is going to own this guy this time.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    I hope you're right.

  • In reply to Shady:

    QB - Matt Ryan
    WR/TE - Anquan Boldin
    RB - Michael Turner

  • In reply to Perno:

Going heavy on the Falcons...almost had Gonzalez in there too. That would have been interesting.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

John "Moon" Mullin from CSN Chicago Sports comes to mind...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

I like Chris Mortensen and John Clayton at ESPN. Clayton btw was one of the only guys to give the Bears a fighting chance in the NFC North during preseason.

  • In reply to buckbear:

Mullin was the only guy I know who said the Bears would be 10-6 or better and stuck to it even after the 0-4 pre-season..

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Melissa Isaacson.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

There have to be some old school NFL players turning over in their grave over the tidbit of news Rachel Nichols at ESPN spouted:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4669297/video-staying-hot-and-keeping-warm

They're serving hot apple cider and chicken broth on Seattle's sideline?! I bet Butkus just spit in disgust.

  • In reply to buckbear:

Pete Carrol frightens me - - this is just weird.

  • In reply to buckbear:

I am an old woman, and tend to repeat myself, but.....

I have given up reading (except this blog and the Trib) and have instead, taken up drinking. I think this makes me a happier person, and accentuates my eternal Bears optimism.....

    Buy beer. Go Bears!!!

  • In reply to sjvl:

    Salut!

  • In reply to sjvl:

I'M GOING TO THE GAME ON SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called my cousin yesterday about a concert we were going to meet at tonight in Milwaukee with my brother and a bunch of other friends. He said he wasn't going now because of the Bear game on Sunday and that he had two more tickets because some people just backed out. Talk about good fortune. My first Bears playoff game. The plan:
Go to my sister's house in Milwaukee and party for the first game.
Watch the lovely and talented Grace Potter rock out and party till around 1 AM.
Leave Milwaukee at 5 and go to my Uncle's for a 6:15 bloody mary.
Leave for the game at 6:30 (PROMPT!)
Start tailgating around 7:30 or 8:00. Cook out and get my drink on with some salty bloody mary's.
Walk to the game around 11:15, consuming large amounts of peanuts so I don't have to piss during the game.
Scream my lungs out as the Bears pummel the Seahawks.
Tailgate some more celebrating the Bears victory.
Go to bed a happy man Sunday night. The end.

Interesting band. A little too into style over substance, and Grace is no Sheryl Crow in voice or presence - but not bad for a road band.

The guys all look like they are riffing on the look in Almost Famous, but hey.

Have fun at the Bears game!

saw this comment on a Bob LeGere blog. make of it as you will:

"Live in Denver. Life long Bears fan and Broncos fan since 1961.

Spend lots of time at DIA- airport- near the only coffee places Caribou Coffee and the coffee stand in the United concourse.

Have watched Reilly yell at service workers at the coffee place. Asked who was that and they told me. Service employees also told me that he is always an *********. He tells people who he is, always takes extra seats while waiting for a flight- typing, on the phone, talking loud, etc.

Cutler- know one person who knew him in Denver- long time employee- who works at Bronco headquarters- low level. Cutler is a "wait in line", "please, thank you", quiet, non chalant, treat everyone the same- except media people- kind of guy. Will go to Round Robin with clerical people just as soon as go with the GM. Almost every time he went to the diabetes unit at the hospital-no media allowed- he talked to young patients. On the internet, you will see hundreds of Jay Cutler fan taken photos of him with sick kids and their parents.

Cutler thinks media people are scum and they know he does and they are trying to destroy him.
Reilly is scum and his articles about forgiving the dog torturer, and the serial rapist- Vick and Big Ben- well that proves it."

QB Tom Brady (SC Dave, this pick was genius... I've got a plan now)
    RB Michael Turner
    WR Greg Jennings

As for my game picks, in order of confidence:
    Packers +2.5
    Steelers -3
Jets +8 (in a normal game; I have a feeling BB+TB may blow them out though...)
    Bears -10

There's only two rounds left including Superbowl, so you just pick the other QB in the SB i.e. Cutler. Tee-hee!

The thing you have to realize about he doesn't take himself too seriously, as in turn you shouldn't take him too seriously. His role - which he is pretty damn good at - is basically one of a comedian. The sad thing is that his opinions are more sound than those of sports "journalists" about 90% of the time.

He did get another thing wrong in that article, though. He lists Cutler's NFL record as 24-29, when it's actually 34-34. Looks like he's pretending 2010 never happened. Can someone tweet him and request a correction?

Just heard this on the Score Boers and Berstein show.

  • In reply to BigT:

    BigT..+1

  • In reply to BigT:

i couldn't stay away because i fucking hate our reality show based culture. Reporters tearing guys down at every turn for every reason and every word.

You could just hear the sarcasm and resentment dripping off our media this year when they were continually proved wrong regarding our boys. McNeill from the Score actually wanted the Bears to lose and publicly said so. Rosenbloom can't help himself and needs to be a pussy ass cynic at every turn. It's easy to bash someone's demeanor because it's just your opinion and you don't have to back it up and you certainly won't be held accountable like when you predict defeat and are fucking wrong over and over and over.
People rarely come up with true original thoughts and most people recycle shit they've already heard on the radio and tv from the talking heads. I thought Waddle would get it right but he is turning into a serious choad licker. Anything to make it to the National spotlight right Tom?
It made me truly happy this year to see the Bears do well because it made dickhead writers look terrible, pundits look pedestrian and petty and me look like more than a loyal homer that just wants to see competitive bears football. A win on sunday won't garner any respect in the media but it will put us in the NFC title game against either the Falcons or the Pack. It will also serve as the beginning of the raising of the huge Bear Paw middle finger that will be fully extended when we go to the big dance.
If the Bears lose the NFC Championship game they will get no respect even though they will be only 1 of 4 teams out of 32 to make it that far. it won't matter to the pundits. If Jay doesn't win the superbowl it will somehow vindicate these fucking assbags that talked shit all year about the team and it's players. I won't understand it but that is the sad fact.
Luckily we are going to beat Seattle and then whoever the fuck else is put in front of us and they can make all of the excuses they want. As if we were the only team to play against Shaun Hill. We caused that motherfuckers. As if we were the only team to play Clausen! so did every other team in the fucking league. As if we were the only team to play the Vikings without Rice...as if he is somehow the lynchpin that resulted in them playing well this year and fucking chomping on weiner this year. They hate us because we stayed healthy this year? They dismiss the solid playing this year because the media hates our QB? Fine, be a little bitch like that but be ready to make excuses when the fucking heat comes down. I want Peppers to fucking kill hasselbeck so people can watch and say holy shit. I want Hester to take it to the house so people can tell their kids they saw the best that ever did it. I want Cutty to pull fucking rabbits out of his hat like he's done all year so vaginas like Reilly, McNeill, Rosenfuckingcock, Haugh, King, Banks, Seifert and any other fucking hack that purports themselves to be experts can fucking choke on it. BEAR DOWN because the hawks are about to get gangbanged by a bunch of wild bears. like a fucking nature show gone bad, like a camping trip from hell. I can't wait to see Briggs or Lach twist off Lynch's head like a fucking bottle cap. The rant is over. The asskicking is about to begin. Washington? I see knee injury in your near future. Hasselbeck? you'll never play again. Okung? you are fucked. Pundits? fuck off and stop sucking at your jobs.

Johnny, this is the recipe I predicted after we went 4-0 when the HEHATEME media showed their cards. I can't wait to hear all the talking heads begrudgingly admit the Bears earned a trip to the Super Bowl. Oh, and then we'll have to sit around for two weeks while they rant and rave about how the Patsy's or Steelers will throttle us only to see Jay & Co. prove them wrong yet again. On the flip side, we could lose to Seattle by some freak of nature and we'll never hear the end of it. The future is now boys, see the future. Be the future. GO BEARS.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Good one Waffle. On your points in the middle there bout our competition. I remember how much flack we caught when we almost got beat by Buffalo after the bye. Then only laying a 16-0 shutout on Miami with their 3rd string QB. Then almost losing to Detroit. Then killing Minnesota with Joe Webb at QB. Any body else happen to notice what those same teams did in the weeks after we handled them. 1) Biffalo went 4-2 in their next 6 with one of the losses being in OT to the AFC #2 seed Steelers. 2) Detroit finished out the year 4-0 after we beat them including victories over Green Bay and Tampa Bay. 3) Minnesota defeated Philly on the road the very next week with Joe Webb at the helm with a respectable 88 QB rating. You didn't hear anybody backtracking on what we did with our competition, but they are more than happy to de-legitimize our status as the #2 seed because of our "lucky breaks" It's amazing how little those pundits actually pay attention.

  • In reply to BigT:

The reason the media hates Jay Cutler is because he is from the midwest. Santa Claus, IN is pretty close and there are some dumb country bumpkins from there and all, but whatever, the dude can throw the rock. I don't care how many cusbands are in his family.

The coastal media elites who are now raging republican douchenozzles hate hardworking midwesterners. It's as simple as that. That is not to say there aren't republicans who are not douchenozzles, but anyone that becomes a republican because they have money are by definition douchenozzles. They do nothing on principle, it's all about their personal bottom lines. Every decision is about money and fame and glory. They don't like Jay Cutler because they are jealous he doesn't need that which they crave. He is not like them and that means there is a problem.

The media is a bunch of 3rd grade he said/she said BS. And by "the media" I mean "the nationally syndicated ass clowns that everyone talks about" rather than the actual grunt journalist working for the various local papers throughout the country. And even some of them are douchenozzles as well.

The media are poison. Our free press is an absolute joke. It is the reason we are actually the laughingstock of most developed nations.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

Mike, it doesn't make any sense to say that people hate Jay Cutler because they are republicans from the east coast with money. Agreed on the media being poison.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Well, the coastal elite media reference is actually more general. They hate the midwest, period. And everyone from the region. It doesn't matter that most are red states. They hate traveling there. They hate the people. The love pretending they know them and their values but they hate everything about them.
