Bears/Pack: I Can't Think About Anything Else

  • I wonder how important this game will be in determining the off-season plan for Jerry Angelo and Bears management.  We know there will be tremendous focus on building the offensive line but if Aaron Rodgers shreds the Bears defense, I wonder how much attention will go their way.  If the defense stops Rodgers cold, you could make an argument for the same eleven starters next season.
  • Chris Harris has been on the Chicago Bears three of Lovie Smith's seven seasons.  In those three seasons, the Bears are 35-13, three NFC North titles, 3-2 postseason record and an NFC championship.  In the other four seasons the Bears are 28-36 with zero postseason appearances.  Harris is listed as Questionable for tomorrow but says he will absolutely play.
  • It does not look like weather is going to be a major factor tomorrow, with little chance of precipitation and winds only gusting to around to about 9 mph.
  • The more I think about the Bears passing game the more I think Earl Bennett is going to run some of those Rashied Davis routes from Week 17 and become Jay's primary target to combat the aggressive Packers blitzes.
  • Mike Francesa brought it up a bunch on WFAN in New York this week and I think he's right.  Jay Cutler has heard the media's canonization of Aaron Rodgers this week and he's going to attempt to make a statement.  Troy Aikman told Mike he thought the Bears would open ultra-conservative.  Joe Theismann believes Martz will allow him to take shots early.  Nobody knows anything but it's what makes this game so interesting.
  • I'm not going to shill for a product so trust me on this.  The big hot dog from BigHotDog.com is one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen.  I'll have photos up when we cook the thing.
  • I am not nervous about this game tomorrow.  I was nervous for the Seahawks game which was essentially a no-win for the Bears.  I am excited about this game.  I want it to happen.  I want it to be epic.  And I think it will be a great day for the Chicago Bears.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I think Dez will have an impact Sunday. I think we confuse the already weak pass coverage by GB linebackers by adding another pass catching tight end in the mix. Also should be able to handle some Woodson blitzes. Bear Down!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I wonder if we'll see any 4 TE sets?

  • In reply to jdawg:

What would that package be called. Ultra Jumbo or Airbus or C5 Galaxy.

  • In reply to buckbear:

    buckbear...............I likey "C5 Galaxy Set"

Those things fly over my house almost everyday. Every time you see it your first thought is "How in the world is that thing flying through the air?" If it's flying low enough and slow enough it's very trippy.

  • In reply to buckbear:

I particularly enjoyed the fifth powerpoint where Jeff contends, very convincingly I might add, there should be a "canonization of Aaron Rodgers this week." St. Aaron I has a wonderful ring to it. Of course, the Packers need no miracles to whup the Bears......

  • In reply to greenbayman:

Go away. Seriously, as pathetic as you are you must have some like-minded friends that enjoy the Packers. Go hang out with them, discuss this game with them, but most importantly don't come here to discuss it. You just referred to Aaron Rodgers as St. Aaron. I'm fairly sure you used to refer to a certain #4 in the same light, which means you judgement is unreliable in every respect, as that guy has zero morals, horrible character and could never be confused for a Saint. I know you're going to post some snide comment as a reply to my post, because that's who you are and how you were raised. Nothing I can do about that. I looked up the definition of a blog and found this:

"Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or reflect the purpose of the Web site that hosts the blog."

You are not in any way, shape or form a representation of Jeff, this blog or our shared interests. Your continued presence here confirms that regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's game, you'll remain a sad little man with nowhere to discuss his team and no friends to share his thoughts with. I pity you.

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

Hope you didn't spend too much time composing that, it is already forgotten. Too bad I can't flush it down my toilet, you could open your tap and drink it with your dinner tonight.

  • In reply to buckbear:

how about a 4 TE set with an empty backfield? we could call it Rumbletron!

  • In reply to jdawg:

Or a 4 TE set out of the shotgun and call it the Bazooka formation.

  • In reply to buckbear:

The Packers could play with one hand tied behind there collective backs, and allow you a 15 TE set; da' Bears would still not have a prayer of a chance to win...

  • In reply to nicholsra:

You declared all Wisconsinites as preeminent experts, doesn't bother me. But in all honesty, any layman can see that Soldier Field is a pile of fecal matter. All Bear fans should be ashamed of the state of that playing surface. Especially considering that Bear players had the audacity to complain about the state of TCF Bank Stadium in Minnesota....

I like the second line, "Aaron Rodgers shreds the Bears Defense". Chicagoland newspapers will be plagiarizing Jeff in their headlines on Monday morning. Excellent prognosticating on his part....

  • In reply to greenbayman:

nice taking out of context, it reads:

We know there will be tremendous focus on building the offensive line but if Aaron Rodgers shreds the Bears defense,

but if Aaron Rodgers shreds.. did you not see the word but?

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I was myopic, not unlike Bears fans dreaming they have a prayer of winning on Sunday, or believing they have a decent team.

  • In reply to greenbayman:

The only thing Rogers will be shredding, is Wisconsin cheese on Superbowl Sunday as he prepares Taco's and chili dogs for all the losing packer fans who watch the game ON TV to see how the Bears DEW IT to other teams.

Did you not watch game 17, where the Bears played as if it was pre-season, nothing on the line, and they still held Rogers to 10 points ? Do you really think that Martz would show the fudgepackers anything that game ? The Bears wanted The packers to win, so they'd get home field advantage in this game, and then SHRED the packers in front of the hometown fans. They ain't no dummies, and I'm sure the mckasheys and daleys of the world appreciate all the wisconsin money that will be spent here in Chicago this weekend, while watching their team get obliterated. Thank you WI, and thank you Bears management for allowing us in Chicago see the game here, instead of traveling to atlanta. Genius thinking and planning if you ask me.

    Bears 30, Packers 10.

    BEAR THE FUCK DOWN!

  • In reply to Reichwolff:

    Indeed!!

  • In reply to Reichwolff:

It's funny that you say you aren't nervous. I was the exact same way last week. Super nervous while still very confident. This week I'm just excited and ready to go. I feel reallly good about our chances and can't wait for the game to start!

  • In reply to BigT:

About the time of kickoff, your over-optimistic "feel reallly good about our chances" will come to an abrupt end. It will prove to be a classic case of denial.....

  • In reply to BigT:

Where's our friend speaking Sean Connery? Laughed out loud on those yesterday, 'stache.

  • In reply to BigT:

Dez will be active tomorrow and will likely help max protect against the Pack's blitz packages. He'll probably take Arosh's spot. Arosh hasn't done much when he has found the field this year and we all know Dez can block. Plus, Jay has the chemistry going w/ Earl the Pearl, Know and G-reg. I really like this move.

I appreciate the compliment. And I humbly agree with your perceptive assessment..

  • In reply to jdawg:

I predict that Wayne Larrivee will make his patented proclamation, "And there's your dagger", in the middle of the third quarter. Too bad Don Meredith, bless his (damn')Dallas Cowboy soul, can't grace us with his rendition of "Turn Out the Lights, the Parties Over." Bears fans wouldn't hear it anyway, all televisions in the greater Chicago area will be non-functioning. Head scratchin insurance adjusters will be mystified by an invasion of destroyer flying beer bottles. Apparently, these bottles only opt to land on the interior of television screens. Oddly, these crashes occur at the precise moment of the third Cutler picksix. Amazing coincidence....

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Okay everyone, I'm expected better of you this thread.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    Er... um... expectING

Only one question to the Peckers...

How would they like their remains displayed at the end of the game?

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Rather...where would they like their ashes sprinkled?

  • In reply to buckbear:

The Packers will be hoisting the George S. Halas Trophy at the end of the game. Right there on Soldiers Field. A truly awe inspiring moment, tears of joy in Packer fans eyes; should we discuss the proliferation of Bears fans tears tomorrow? The Chicago River will flood with green tears of envy, it will bring to mind St. Patricks Day....

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I would like to see Clay Mathews scalped.

  • In reply to adampigott:

That would only serve to infuriate him.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

lobo, a used garbage bag would be most appropriate.

  • In reply to sjvl:

sjvl...would we really want to waste a good garbage bag? Didn't certain families just use dumpster's in the yard? hhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhheeeeeee

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Speaking of dumpsters, how's that garbage filled Bear trophy case holding out? That Halas trophy is gonna look sweet tucked behind all the Packer Superbowl Trophies.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Hmmm, lobo. I think you're right.

Plan B: Shop Vac? I mean really, it will just be small wet pieces..

  • In reply to sjvl:

    bbbwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa

  • In reply to sjvl:

OK -- a serious question for the Packer fans who are ringing the attention bell:

how often is Matthews asked to cover a back or a TE?

  • In reply to jdawg:

jdawg...yyyyyyyyooooooooouuuuu nnnnneeeeeeeeeedddddd ttttttooooo wwwwwwrrrriiiiiittttteeeee ssssssllllooooowwwwlllyyy ffffoooorrrr tttthhhheeeemmmm.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Why waste a thoroughbred like Matthews on a TE? He's more effective at disrupting the qb rhythm.

  • In reply to greenbayman:

Just curious. Also, how healthy is Jenkins?

  • In reply to jdawg:

Jenkins is ready. Calf is in good shape, full mobility. Cast has been off the arm for awhile. He will be a factor in this game, against both the run and the pass. His endurance may not be there....

  • In reply to Mastodon:

SC Dave..you know I tried to stay away but it calls me..and I will not go away..I will stay here and fight for my BEARS...TRY THIS ON FOR SIZE FUDGEPECKERS..... FUCK YOU!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    * I hope you weren't drawing too much from co-relating Chris Harris's presence on the team, and us having success, Jeff. He was here for the good squads and lost in space without Mike Brown.

    * I don't see how this game affects the draft. O-line. Angelo cannot continue to ignore it as he has been. Only the top picks matter anyway, they have to be on the O-line. I don't like any of our starters. That's not good.

    * Earl Bennett will be Cutler's primary target? Y'think? With Hester and Knox struggling to make a couple of catches a game, I sure hope he is. Maybe they'll unleash the Shabba ....

    * Aikman thinks we'll open Ultra-conservative because *he* is UC. Cutler's first ever playoff pass attempt went downfield for a score. If anyone will be conservative it'll be the Fudgers trying, and failing, to establish the run. We'll have to use that quarter or so to get two scores on the board quickly and then let our defense do their thing, then let the offense go back to conservatism. Throw is some good ST ... game over. Super bowl baby. Yeah.

I am so ready for this game to get started. I arrived safe and sound in Honolulu yesterday. Made 3 bets with fudge fans at the hotel here. My $100 against their $150 straight up. I'm planning on having $450 in my pocket tomorrow night. Seems there are more Bear fans here than Packer fans. For my fellow DBB friends back in Chicago, it's 80 degrees and sunny right now. I am going to see if I can find a Bear bar here to watch the game. Otherwise will be some generic bar with cold beer and great televisions. I'll be glad when the game is over and the cheesey trolls crawl back in that hole they came out of. Be the las we hear from them till next year. Bear Down ladies and gentlemen, BEAR DOWN!!!!!!!

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

What time does the game start in Hawaii?

  • In reply to buckbear:

probaly like 5 in da morning.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

both games were just on NFL network. Needless to say the Packers look very un-packer-ish when playing the Bears. My pick for a monster game is Julius Peppers. Not only was he held literally every play in the first game, he had a strong game against the sea hawks and will embarass anyone they put in front of him tomorrow. He is going to use that bullrush like he did against Okung and it is going to get messy. Less than 24 hrs boys and the battle begins. Starks is going to fucking fumble in a crucial situation and it's going to be hysterical. The young man hasn't seen this kind of fucking intensity.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

johnny..watched both today also......... and thought the same thing brother, we are a great equalizer for their fast pace..they may run the numbers up in stats but interesting enough, when it comes to points an empty bucket shows up. Interesting that all the "F"ING pundits don't talk about..just how Fuckdodgers does this and that and never how the score with us is always low....Fucking dipshits

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Robo - The best line in the Seahawks game was Peppers saying "I don't know what y'all are gonna do but i'm gonna eat this guy". He then proceeds to blast Okung 5 yards back into the pocket and force Hasselbeck, the one that doesn't bang Elizabeth, into the loving arms of Tommie Harris. This is going to be special.
