Bears & Packers: Final Notes

NFL Says Soldier Field Sod in Good Shape

Read the article linked here.  Now if you believe the article you've just read, you are most likely one of the reported 60% of Americans who believe Noah's Ark was an historical event.  I'm sincerely doubtful the Bears were working overtime to eradicate their most significant Soldier Field advantage.
Desmond Clark to Suit-Up Tomorrow
I understand that players like to use the Twitter but if I'm Lovie Smith I'm not pleased Desmond Clark personally leaked his playing status for tomorrow.  Even if Clark will have no role in the passing game aside from max protection schemes, giving players like Matthews and Woodson a day to study his tendencies as a blocker is simply not wise.  Every match-up, every moment, could be the decisive one tomorrow.
After Having Read All the Prognostications...
...I will say this: analysts are leading far too heavily on "the Packers are the better team."  Are they?  Probably.  But it's not the fault of the Bears that they earned a bye week and because of seeding landed the easier opponent in the Divisional Round.  The Packers had to beat the Eagles (barely) and the Falcons because they put themselves in that situation.  And now they are being predicted to go to the Super Bowl because of it.  Seems odd to me.
One More Radio Appearance Tonight
I'll be on ESPN 1700 Des Moines (my home away from home) at 10:15 CST tonight with Trent Condon.  I really dig this show and am loving my appearance.  Click here to listen live.

  • Beat the Cheese.

  • Same new different subject matter Jeff. Well done. I do think you may want to give the cloak and dagger bit about Dez some more consideration though. Maybe Lovie wanted the Fudge Maker(Mathews) to spend a day studying Dez on film to get him side tracked. Hmmm, sounds plausible wouldn't you say?

  • BEAR DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ahem, since you mentioned it, you bet your bippy Noah built an Ark.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

They went in two by two unto the ark, the male and the female, and the Future of the Bears was shone upon us..

  • In reply to nicholsra:

And the Chicago River flooded with Bears fans tears. And God saw that it was good.....
And there was wailing and gnashing of teeth in Chicagoland. And the Lord was pleased.....

  • In reply to greenbayman:

You false one, first take out the bit of wood from your eye, then will you see clearly to take out the grain of dust from your brother's eye.

  • In reply to greenbayman:

I put this on the last thread, but feel it's needed one more time. This will be the last time I entertain a response to these unsavory interlopers.

    "
Go away. Seriously, as pathetic as you are you must have some like-minded friends that enjoy the Packers. Go hang out with them, discuss this game with them, but most importantly don't come here to discuss it. You just referred to Aaron Rodgers as St. Aaron. I'm fairly sure you used to refer to a certain #4 in the same light, which means you judgement is unreliable in every respect, as that guy has zero morals, horrible character and could never be confused for a Saint. I know you're going to post some snide comment as a reply to my post, because that's who you are and how you were raised. Nothing I can do about that. I looked up the definition of a blog and found this:

"Blogs generally represent the personality of the author or reflect the purpose of the Web site that hosts the blog."

You are not in any way, shape or form a representation of Jeff, this blog or our shared interests. Your continued presence here confirms that regardless of the outcome of tomorrow's game, you'll remain a sad little man with nowhere to discuss his team and no friends to share his thoughts with. I pity you."

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

    Matty...+1

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

Favre was actually always a drunk and a womanizer....and macked vicodin (which I can't really knock him for. Vicodin is pretty money)

  • In reply to brocklanders:

"macked vicodin" - Sorry I stated 16... you're definitely younger than that, "bro".

"Vicodin is pretty money" - A wise man once said, "These kids take this for FUN? Ha! These pussies would have never been able to handle 'ludes."

    I'm calling a shutout. Bears 17, Cheese 0.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

No fear, no doubt, no SHIT. Bears are going to win tomorrow.

    DIE CHEESE DIE.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I have no doubt he is a Packers fan - they are endemic to the MSPL area from the days before the Vikings.
I am sure he gets flaming bags of dogshit left on his door step during the season...case in point, when greenbaydummy's mother drops him off for daycare.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

I think she dropped him off and didn't come back, MBP.

It's nice to see how much you've grown up.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

Well, the only difference is now I'm just much more self-aware.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

Jeff, after we win the Super Bowl, I want to know who Cheesy and Greeny are. Both of them deserve academy awards.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Thank you for your gracious nomination. I however, would like to cast my vote for Oog of Ulam. Delightful stuff.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

I must agree with you Cheesy. Oog's rare appearances demonstrate inciteful dialog and, above all, his integrity is beyond repute. I look forward to his arrival with acute anticipation....

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

Quote of the year from Jeff Hughes:

Blog Post: Chicago Bears Put 2010 On Notice
    Author: Jeff Hughes

In response to the skepticism/happiness/leeriness/shock of signing Peppers/Taylor and Shamu on the same day:

"Whether you agree or disagree with the moves, I'll say this: My. God. They are going to go down swinging this year." - Jeff Hughes

    "Chicago Bears Buy 2010 A 6'7 285lb Fucking Steak Dinner" - Waffle

Isn't it funny how things work out boys? Always keep the faith.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Was that the same day they signed Gene Steratore and Terry McAulay? I must say, quite a coup.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

for my last post until after the game i will use it to remind you to stop being a typical pussy packer fan troll and stop making typical pussy packer troll excuses. I thought we talked about this. STOP MAKING EXCUSES. It will help you with your credibility.
Quick! Call McCarthy right now and remind your lineman to try not to cheat EVERY FUCKING PLAY and you should be fine.

See you after the game where you will be doing one thing albeit in various forms:

    1. making excuses

Gametime homos, i hope you are as excited as i am.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Come on, man. You have to admit that was kind of a good one, regardless of whether or not you think it's true. Plus you should tell the rest of your bear buddies to stop making excuses, even your blogdaddy

  • In reply to brocklanders:

The Johnny Jolly reference on the awesome youtube video was a fucking good one. The 18 penalties merely an excuse widely espoused by pundits, pack fans and beat writers. NO EXCUSES...only gangsta stemmy chronic and 97 Tahoe's

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Jefe...I must say, you've been pretty level headed all year. I think you're letting your colors show a little bit in your breakdowns and analysis this week but it must be expected given the magnitude of this game; it would be lame if you weren't optimistic about this game.

I know the wildcard game came down to the final drive but it wasn't really a very close game. Packers were all over the eagles. It's like saying the Seahawks kept the Bears game kinda close since the final score was only 11; they didn't, they got their asses beat.

Plus, if you're gonna play that game, all 6 packer losses came down to the final possession (4 last second field goals (2 in OT) and two 4th down misses deep in the opponents territory.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

In essence, if the packers almost lost to the eagles, they almost went undefeated.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

You were a shoestring tackle away from losing to Philly.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

The Packers were 2 dropped balls, 1 missed field goal, 2 penalties, and a missed interception away from being undefeated. This blog has turned into convoluted crap, you are welcome....

  • In reply to greenbayman:

    then move on bitch...

  • In reply to greenbayman:

We are going to win the takeaway battle. Peanut and Peppers.
We are going win the field position battle. Hester and Gould.
We are going to win the time of possession battle. Forte and Cutler.
We are going to win the game. Martz and Marinelli.

    Bears 34
    Packers 24

  • In reply to brocklanders:

By the way Jeff, I'm making picks this week, since I actually made the top half of the field last week, but you DQd me because you are afraid of me winning the contest. You can choose to ignore it, but that's your prerogative.

    QB. Big Ben Roethlisberger
    RB. John Kuhn
    WR. Santonio Holmes.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

Shows a terminal deficiency in Packer Power. Lackluster Kuhn can carry the ball for you though.

  • In reply to greenbayman:

saving the pack for cowboy stadium. Plus it's all TDs. yards don't mean shit in this fantasy game. Kuhn will get a TD on the ground or on the screen no doubt

  • In reply to brocklanders:

I predict one of each, minimum. Go show your superiority, pummel them into submission. Beat them to a bloody pulp, kinda' like the Packers whuppin' da' Bears tomorrow.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

Showing neither an understanding of the rules or Chicago's smackmouth run defense. kuhn doesn't break 50 yards.

Our Father, who art in Chicago, football be thy game. Let Forte run, This superbowl be won, on earth as it is in Soldier Field. In the name of the fans, Lincecum, and the Giants. Amen.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yea the weather has been extremely nice lately here in SD. But dam man I miss my home.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ok, I' responding from Jeff's last blog here because he's on overdrive right now, understandably.

Will our future be shaped by this Packer game?

I don't think so, not really. Let's say Peanut has a bad game, does that mean that the Bears will go aggresively after Asamougha if available, or that they'd draft a cb in the first three rounds? He totally shut down Williams the week prior, and fits the scheme perfectly.

What if we get no pass rush? Does that make us eye Haynesworth with more urgency? Hopefully, but I could easily envision Angelo and gang blaming it on the field conditions. If our WR get shut down, well, they're young, it's the first year in a complicated system, they're going against arguably the best cbs...If Cutler bombs, we're stuck there, and if our Safeties suck, well, once again, this is Manning's and Wright's first whole year, and Harris was injured...

In other words, there's built in justification for just about every scenario. The Bears train will just keep on chugging, I can already envision that press confrence

"Lovie, will you make major organizational changes"

Lovie, "Maybe we might tweak some schemes, or look at film at see what we need to improve on. As for personnel, we like our guys. It's just a matter of execution."

NOT THAT WE"RE GONNA HERE THAT SPEECH since we're gonna win. Actually, we may hear that speech. I think Lovie has the same speech prepared for either a win or a loss, read in the same way.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yea I know man, it was extremely nice, and has been for the past two weeks. I was in Encinitas all day today chillen. But man Illinois is home to me brotha. Always will be illinois in my heart!

Dude, almost my entire family moved to L.A. from Chicago for weather just like this. 78 degrees - can drink a cool beer on the patio...as opposed to one's snot freezing lol But gotta love the Windy City...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Yea I understand you point. Chicago has Culture and tradition. Something I have yet to find in Cali.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

Here's the more accurate Packer version:

We are going to win the takeaway battle. Williams and Woodson.
We are going to lose the position battle. Hester and Slocum.
We are going to win the possession battle. Starks and Rodgers.
We are going to win the game. McCarthy and Capers.

    Packers 24
    Bears 10

A history of special team woes. It's disheartening. But I remember watching the Bart Starr Show in the late 70's, the highlights were 7 David Beverly skyhigh punts; I shit you not. 7 punts were the game highlights, shows how well that weeks game went.
So it can always be worse...

  • In reply to greenbayman:

    I love this blog

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

if jackson runs that thing all the way, the packers have over a minute to go down and kick a field goal to either win or tie

  • In reply to brocklanders:

The Bears are the last team that wants to start bringing up couldas and shouldas. The healthiest team in football was also the luckiest team in football....And I don't like to bang that drum but when you start pulling out shit like that? I mean come on. Week 1 was a disgrace in itself, we should have all seen this coming after that garbage.

HMMMM Guess everyone is sleeping now. See you all tomorrow. Bear Down DBB family, BEAR DOWN!!!!!!!

  • In reply to Joseph:

Ive been seeing and listening to these packer fuckers all week talking shit and walking with a swag they havent earned.
Its imperative that cutler peppers and co. Go out today and show the world and everybody in it who doubted what this 2011 bears team is about who the real fucking deal is. Your superbowl champs the chicago bears over the fakers 24-17..bear the fuck down..

  • In reply to logikal77:

Haven't earned? We must need , what, three more victories given to us by the refs like you ass wipes did. The world knows who the real fucking deal is already, you chumps just refuse to believe them. How will you ever BEAR to watch the Pack in the Superbowl. You dip shit pukes will be demanding new players, coaching staff, GM, yadda, yadda, yadda in a few hours anyway.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

this video is amazing and you know it

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I heard Jay Cutler is listed as doubtful with "moon face." He's insisting that he just has a really fat face, but team doctors are having none of it.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

NASA is exploring for evidence of a chin, vegas set the odds of finding one at 1000 to 1 against.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You guys are really dreaming. Double vaginal injuries in one game, particularly to the same team, is an extremely rare occurance. The double-dose hasn't happened since Butkus and Ditka mutually diddled themselves to exhaustion during half-time of a November 21,1965 Detroit Lion contest. Miraculously, the Bears were able to survive with a 17-10 victory. At a joint post-game press conference, Ditka and Butkus both blushed that the victory was their most pleasurable in memory. They also announced their nuptials, wedding plans to follow.....

  • In reply to greenbayman:

Have you seen the half moon on the face of Rodgers? It's called his nose!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Have to agree as far as the field condition goes, Blogfather. I am not in that "60%".

My response to the NFL would be

"Yeah, right. So those players I heard this week, including Brian Urlacher and James Jones, who labeled the Soldier Field playing surface as "Terrible" and "The worst in the league" don't really know what they're talking about when it comes to field conditions?"

The NFL.The same people that approved play at Veterans Stadium for years despite open seams and turf covered pot-holes.

The NFL talking about field conditions is like politicians trying to "fix" the economy. When all is said and done, more will be "said" than "done".

My suspicion would be that the teams would try to go deep early, before the field's week-long first aid treatment is obliterated.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

If Dez dresses then who sits? Gotta be Davis, right? I love Dez as much as the rest of you, but I hate to sacrifice Kellen for this game. I think Earl the Pearl will be a difference maker tomorrow, and Girlie Thor builds on his previous game. I think Tice is able to minimize the blitz damage that Matthews and Woodson can bring, and the line plays a hugely inspired game overall. I can't wait for Cornelison's National Anthem, and I expect our guys to come out on fire. I think Peanut and Timmy are playing excellent right now on the outside, and hope they can severely limit Jennings and Driver's YAC. Bear Down, and great job Jeff on so many threads this week. Way to be on your game. We're all stoked, and ready for GAME TIME!!

Aroma sits. Rashied would never be sat.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    Rash = Special Teams

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

I was referring to Kellen Davis, not Rash. Lord knows we would never sit Rash.

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

If either Kellen or Shabba sits, then that would would just really be a shithead of a thing to do. Your tallest receiver (both positions) and your most dynamic WR need to be suited up or else, quite frankly, you are a cock of a head coach. Dez will probably get fined and not see the field regardless of his apparel.

Jay cutler had highlights in 2009?

  • Flynn played well against that Patriot defense, but he wasn't ready for the pressure of that 2 minute drive at the end. I am sure he learned from the experience and will be better the next time, but I like the chances our D has against him. In particular, I like the solid special teams, patient cover-2 philosophy and powerful pass rush making the guy with minimal game experience go up against coverage blitzes for 10+ play drives. If our linebackers (who I'm told aren't bad) can contain the run, I think he cracks.

But Rodgers is tough... he'd have to get hurt pretty bad to come out of this one.

  • In reply to mottystone:

    he will, on both accounts

  • Have they gone yet ?

Game prediction : Green Bay X
    Chicago X

    Chicago make fewer mistakes.
    It's our house.
"You can't win if you can't run." - Hank Stram
They have Dom Capers, but we have Rod Maranelli.
    Cutler=Rodgers
    Forte>Starks
    Urlacher>everybody
    Peppers>everybody
    Briggs cancels out Hair-do
We have more players on D that can stand-out.
    It's pre-guaranteed.

So..I wonder who we'll be playing in the Super Bowl?

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

If the Bears play the Steelers, things could get rough at my house. Husband's a lifelong Steelers fan....

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

After watching the Cards get ripped off by the horse shit refering in the last Super Bowl the Steelers were given, I hope your right. They are a bunch of dirty players and I don't like them one bit!

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

I know. I can't stand the Fat Boy, but I am rooting for the J E T S today. shhhhh....

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

Hearty party last night, I can't tell if my cement mixer stomach is acting up b/c of pre-game nerves or all the booze last night. 3 dumps by 9a may in fact be a new record. Time to shower and equip myself like a freaking Eagle scout before heading out this morning.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

I open the bar here in the great north woods in an hour . Up most of the night getting ready. 100# venison brats soaked in beer and onions and all the other goodies. Not much time to banter but we all made it to the big day. Was this the longest fucking week ever, or what? Not expecting any Bear colors today, and maybe that's a good thing for the establishment(and them). Hope you dudes are ready for getting your asses kicked in a monumental game. 38-13 Packers win. Enjoy.

    GO BEARS!

  • In reply to phrozentundra:

It will be a hard fought battle today between these two elite teams. The weather is always a factor depending on if it is hot or cold, windy or rainy. That means that the runner up today should not complain about the field or the weather because it is always a factor. I am a Bears fan, but whoever shows up to play will be the respected victor and the one that comes up short should not be necessarily crying because they weren't ready for this game.
