Patriots at Bears Game Preview

The 10-2 Patriots visit the 9-3 Bears in an inter-conference showdown. Can the Bears extend their five-game winning streak, knocking off the team considered by most to be the best in the league?  Will the Pats, on a short week, be able to battle the conditions and win their eleventh game?  I think...

YOUR CONTINUALLY SURPRISING 2010 CHICAGO BEARS
OVER
NEW ENGLAND PATTY CAKES

Why do I like the Chicago Bears this week?
  • I always like the Chicago Bears.
  • I know the Patriots had an easy time with the Jets Monday night but it was still an emotional evening.  Now they have a short week and have to travel to face a good team that needs the game more.
  • Weather conditions?  We got em.  The high temperature of the day is supposed to be 23 degrees, very windy and a 70% chance of precipitation (read: snow).  This does not bode well for a Tom Brady-led offense that wants to throw it as often as they can.
  • The Patriots have a few defensive stalwarts.  Vince Wilfork is still a beast and Devin McCourty is developing into a hell of a Belichick corner.  But they are not a defense with depth and the Bears should be able to continue successfully running the perimeter and executing the short-pass offense to sustain long drives.  Even after their dominant Monday night, the Pats are allowing nearly 400 yards a game.
  • In conditions like these, the Bears return game will be the star of the show.  I'd be surprised if Bill Belichick punts the ball directly to Devin Hester but good coaches have done it before.
  • I love the emergence of Earl Bennett as a reliable possession receiver.  With conditions and inevitably big third-down situations, I think the Duke of Earl comes up huge.
  • I think this is going to be a low-scoring game.  And in low-scoring, cold weather games I will take the better run game and special teams.

Can't wait to see the Bears take down the Pats in the snow. I hope they bump the Charger game in favor of the Bears out here is Cali.

  • In reply to Vicp71:

If you are in what's considered the San Diego market, the local CBS affiliate, per NFL contract stipulations, CANNOT bump the Charger game.

It's a rule Sports Bars absolutely ADORE.

It's also why Tucsonans DETEST mostly the Cardinals because when they moved to Phoenix, a waiver included Tucson in the Cardinals' market even tho' we are outside the original 90 mile limit.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

That's not why I hate the Cardinals... Sure it's annoying, but get the package or get to a bar!

I hate the Cardinals because of the following reasons:

    1) You were, are, and will always be the PHOENIX Cardinals. Don't try and change your name and assume you represent the entire state. If you had STARTED as the Arizona Cardinals, I can respect that... but, after years of playing out of shitty Sun Devil Stadium, charging the highest ticket prices in the NFL, and "stinking out loud" (as you would say) - You change your name to the ARIZONA Cardinals and expect me, as a U of A Alumni, to feel any sort of allegiance? Hell no.

    2) You're located in Phoenix. A place that tries harder to be California than California does. I hate your unnecessary desert grass. I hate your lower-case only menu'd restaurants, I hate Scottsdale's way of pretending to be something special, and I hate ASU. You ASU punks in your dried-blood colored maroon and your piss-colored gold should be downgraded to community college status. Is it any question that the lowest IQ'd "higer education" in AZ also manages to have the butt ugliest colors?

    Dear Phoenix,

You're not California, "bro". There's no beaches. No dispensaries... and all of your hot chicks are on 4-5 year loan from rich families in California whose dumbass children couldn't get into a UC school.

    Love,
    Willie

    Now I feel much better.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

    wow.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah, MD, WIWG summed it up pretty good. Thursday night's UA-ASU debacle must have been incredibly galling. I was disappointed and I'm not even a UA alum!

Oh, he DID forget to take Dollar Bill Bidwell's name in vain. Bidwell makes the McCaskeys look damn near brilliant by comparision.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Scary Al.

The wife is UofA alum... and no Willie, I'm sure you DON'T know her.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Best 8 years of my life.

Coach... what have you been drinking/smoking of late? Cause I'd like some please. Nicely done.

Also, let the pats felatio continue: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/the_bonus/12/08/danny.woodhead/index.html?xid=cnnbin&hpt=Sbin

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

A nice rant, but what do you REALLY think, Willie?

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

I lived in the valley for 13 years, had alot of friends from Tuck-son, my fiancee is also wildcat alumni. You sound like you fit the Tucson-inferiority complex to a 'T'. Sorry bro, I love me Bears just like yourself but Tuscon is not this magical place that is somehow SO different from Phoenix, they are both man-made greeneries in the desert. I love me some AZ, visit my folks there every few months. Cards do currently suck but no ill-will from me. Loved when they played at sun devil, was great to take a lap around the sideline at your lesure to heckle the away team.

Speaking of sun devils, how bouty that civil war last week? Now I see why your bitter, GO DEVILS!

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

Also, Willie, as a native of the east coast who currently resides in CA, what good is a beach if you can't swim in it? I've been to most beaches from SD to Monterey to Half Moon Bay and they're ALL fucking freezing.

And those dispenseries are on the way to AZ, my friend.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

    wrong time of year ben

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Any time of the year, MB, has to do with ocean currents/oscillations. The water off the west coast is ALWAYS colder. How many times has anyone on here swam in the Pacific without a wetsuit?

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

North Atlantic drift baby. The planet's central heating. Temperature's rising too. They're finding Great Whites in the mediterranean now. And no, that's not American tourists taking a dip .... Carcarodon Carcarias my friends.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

I should have clarified Ben, it gets 70-75 down here in the summer for a few months. Man it's beautiful. The older I get the more I hate cold water... and the man in the gray suit. Right Irish?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Somebody might have already said this but, doesn't Mike Martz sounds exactly like Steven Seagal?

  • In reply to Shady:

    Steven 'casting couch' Seagal.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

SD beaches? Cold? I mean everything is relative, but if you think the water is cold in San Diego then.....

Carmel, Monterey, and even San Francisco are pretty fucking cold. Santa Cruz has a south facing coast so it's a little warmer. Still pretty cold for 10 months of the year, but you don't need a wetsuit to swim in july unless you're a complete pussy.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

I don't see too many people swimming in the ocean anyime of the year round here compared to the east coast, not even close. Not about being a pussy, no one's comfortable swimming in 60-65 degree water as we all have the same core temp.

Moot point, as SD ocean can get up into the 70's, there swimming season is shorter than that of the east coast and the average temp is acually upper 60's during that time. Point is, no one in AZ is a wannabe Californian, NO ONE, actually quite the opposite.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

I agree. Last time I set foot in the Pacific was '95... I'm a warm water Gulf of Mexico kinda' guy.

Too bad I'm now in Nebraska.. and I can rant for days on these guys.

I like ranting. It's why I come here.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

I like ranting too, although I don't do it much and I've read your rants before, you're a good ranter. Sometimes when someone rants about something you don't particularly agree with you gotta counter-rant.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

Wow, we really need that game to get here. I really need football. Now.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

    +1 on the Tucson-inferiority complex

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

No inferiority... I just hate rich white people.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

I can't wait to see the mainstream media try to backpedal their out of all the ABSOLUTE CRAP they talked about the Bears all season even when they had a winning record all season. FOOTBALL IS WON ON THE FIELD! You're GUNNA EAT IT!

  • In reply to irootedforjayin09:

I suggest You sir get an avatar... but good point.

  • In reply to irootedforjayin09:

    its fucking THUUUUURRRSSSDAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

    Always appreciate feedback.

    1) Tucson is much different than Phoenix. Tucson has maybe 5% of the grass that Phoenix does.

    2) I could give less of a fuck about college sports. If I did care about less than professionals, I'd still be rooting for my high school.

    3) Just never liked Phoenicians. That's it.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

To each his own, hate that grass if you will but blame it on the golfers, grass on golf courses probably makes up the majority of grass anywhere in AZ. As for rich white folks, that's just being a hater, which, again to each his own, but there are plenty of them in Tuc-son too.

I've spent plenty of time in Phoenix and Tucson an bottom line is Phoenix=Tuc-son.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

Fuckin A on 2) Willie. I don't watch college football. Life is too fucking short to watch college football. They're just practicing to see if they're good enough to play the real thing. The vast majority aren't.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

Maroon and gold might be ugly, but not nearly as ugly as the 3 toothed ice head tweakers that roam the streets of Tucson. Typical U of A hater. The hot chicks at ASU might be "on loan", but unlike UofA, they are there in FULL FORCE. Who cares if it is only for 4-5 years? That's how long the average [transplant] student stays in that desert. Sorry if you're stuck there.

Nice reference to ASU academics and then pointing out that it took you 8 years...

    mmmBearsss

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

+10 to you sir, for your recognition of some U of A nonsense. My fiancee went there so I gotta hear it constantly. Nothing wrong with Phoenix-metro valley for like 9 months outta the year.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

There are tweakers in both towns. That's a fact. Plus, I love tweakers... How else can you get your whole house spotlessly cleaned for 10 bucks?

The hot chicks at ASU AND U of A are on loan from California (thanks guys). They are both in full force. There's a reason it's called "The University of California, Arizona". God bless 'em.

Glad to see I riled a few folks up. That's the goal.

It didn't really take 8 years. That, my friend, was an attempt (albeit miniscule) at humor.

As far as the "low IQ" statements... that's how we role in AZ. It's a hatred. It's not a inferiority complex. Devils will say the same thing about us... U of A will accept ANYBODY. My 1400 got me in based on SAT alone.

I wasn't born there, and the only allegiance I have to U of A sports is smoking doobs with Salim Stoudamire and that pussy beanpole from Chandler (horse-faced guy... can't recall his name - never liked his game), but if it gives me a chance to vent... I'm for it!

    Back to work.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

    Cheers, no love lost here.

  • In reply to bnjrmyn:

Also, not riled up, just defending one of my few homelands. Like you said- you'd do the same, my friend.

  • In reply to Vicp71:

...last line could be "Bears beat this boner"

  • I think we are going to see a different receiver carry the load this week. Earl has been great as of late, but look for someone else to steal the spotlight this week. Cutler has been fantastic in spreading the ball to his various weapons, taking what the D gives him.

This game will depend on Cutler. Plain and simple. We saw Dirty Sanchez fold under the bright lights of the big stage on Monday Night. Has Cutler found the confidence and the consistancy it will take to carry us into and through the playoffs?

I'm not sure, but one thing I do know is...mmmmBearsss!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

    That's "Dirty Sanchize" to you.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Some SI dbag projecting that we'll lose 3 of our last 4 (really?) and be the 6th and last NFC seed to squeek in.

He has the pack at #2.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It doesn't strike me as all that outrageous to pick the Bears to lose 3 of the last 4. All four are going to be very tough games, and we have lost to two crap teams this year (at home no less).

I think we'll beat the Jets and Queens, but I see all four games going down to the wire.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

I see us winning our home games and losing in Minny. Got to wait and see where GB is on the injury front that last week though before making any prognostications.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

I would not be surprised if we lost the rest of the games. I'm not even sure if we'll be favored from here on out. But the Bears keep winning somehow, against the odds. I think they'll end up going 2-2, when on paper they should probably go 1-3.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

fuck man y do u have so much doubt for? every fucking week I see something new from you.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Last Sunday night, Rodney Harrison and Steve Mariucci also said the Bears would loose 3 of their last 4.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I'm not smart enough to watch Frasier. I need my humor dumbed down.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Mahoney is a founding member of Steppenwolf. Along with John Malkovich, Joan Allen (Bourne movies) and Gary (Lt. Dan) Sinise. As well as Laurie Metcalf, best known as Rosanne's sister in Rosanne.

  • I like Forte to have a solid overall game. 100+ rushing and 50+ receiving. Little dink and dunks and some quick slants to Earl, Johnny and Devin. Pats defense is porous and can be exposed. If the Bears control the ball they will handle the Patriots.

  • In reply to jbenton:

I'm even starting Olsen on some of my playoff teams. He's had what, three catches in two games? He should be a bit much for those LBs and the secondary is very young. Maybe we should hit them with Olsen/Kellen double TE sets. This is going to be a top game to watch ....

  • I see a W ss long as Cutty stays within the offense and takes the given underneath stuff. I worry that he comes out with a gunslinger mentality and sees the matchup as him vs. Brady rather than the Pats D.

One nice offensive adjustment I've seen since the bye is that Cut is not throwing to spots anymore where the WR is supposed to be. He's waiting for recievers to finish their routes or gain seperation before throwing. The Bears don't have the chemistry or personnel quite yet to throw to spots on the field.

  • In reply to Crowned:

I've never liked the idea of Cutler having to throw to a spot on the field. The guys got an arm, let him find the open receiver like he's doing. Half the time it seems when he's throwing a pick it's because the receiver stops or looks to have run the wrong route. Throwing when a receiver when he's actually open would seem to eliminate some of that anyways.

  • In reply to jbenton:

Idk JAB. I see what your saying but with this new style of throwing his INT's are down compared to his other years.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

The reduction in INTs is down to his decision-making though, not the scheme. He would have thrown even more interceptions last year if Martz had been here.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Agreed on that Irish.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I also wonder how many more Pick 6 and tackles for a loss that Smurf Moore has to make to get some pro-bowl attention.

  • In reply to jbenton:

Matt Forte is the player that I think needs to be the difference in this game.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

major penis needs to stand erect for this game!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one....

I think every game is a game, and with the short week (Patsies) and home crowd and wind, the Bears will win this game.

I have been a fan too long and have overdosed on the Kool-Aid. I believe in the team and think they will find a way to shut that beauty queen down.

Irish and enderwiggen(?), nice to have some old headbangers on here. I still listen to the old metal, but not as much. I'm a little more partial to blues rock, funk, and jazz now. Irish, you ever hear of Chantel McGregor?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I live in the heart of Penn State country, and Matt Suhey is in town quite a bit. I heard an interview with his son not long ago (PSU #37), and he was talking about his lifelong relationship with the Payton family. Evidently, they're still close. Great article, Irish.

  • In reply to sjvl:

Good one Irish, Suhey is often overlooked. I almost got a Suhey jersey recently, but it was too expensive.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    +25

  • In reply to Crowned:

Jeff, why are you so convinced that the Bears have the cold weather advantage? Tom Brady is always playing home games late into Jan. up in Foxboro. Remember last year when Tom Brady had something ridiculous like 5 first have TD's in a fuckin blizzard? I think the Bears have a shot, and a pretty decent one at that, but not because of how bad the conditions may be.

  • In reply to soupbowlorbust:

lake effect or ocean effect snow is one thing... Chicago winds combined with 10 degree and colder conditions is entirely different. Boston, cuz of the ocean is much more temperate and rarely if ever would it get under 20 degrees there during the day, the ocean is simply to warm to allow it.

  • In reply to dutsami:

that's not true at all. Temps way up in Foxboro and here in Chicago are very comparable. Just to give you an example the Patriots are practicing in a colder wind chill than the Bears are right now.

  • In reply to dutsami:

Same or similar temperature in Foxboro, and averages a bit more snow actually and is windier. Unless your directly on the coast along the city, or Cape Cod, the ocean's affect is not as great.

  • In reply to soupbowlorbust:

I have no idea how this plays out. I fully expect Brady to dink and dunk between the 20's. If we can hold them to FGs I think we have a shot. If not, not so much.

  • In reply to jdawg:

Keeping them out of the endzone will be critical. We match up well with any team if it becomes a FG contest.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

I heard Dave, that if we score more points than them we win... is that true?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Last I checked, that is the most important key to any NFL game.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Apparently Goodell is looking into a way Peyton Manning doesn't actually have to score more points than the other team to win. They're thinking about giving him a five point start.

  • In reply to jdawg:

As long as we don't allow them to get too far ahead in points, I think the Bears will win this one, just to prove the detractors wrong.

I am with Brian Urlacher who said the Bears are the best team. Whether or not you believe he actually uttered those words.....

THE BRADY BUNCH IS GOING DOWN!!!!!! GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to sjvl:

I think the Pats win it in a close one. They're better coached and have the better QB and receivers.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Wouldn't lay money down on the outcome anyway.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

No, there will be no bets for me this week.

Shit, I'm still waiting for my money from those Eagles fans.....

  • In reply to soupbowlorbust:

+1. I don't see how the Bears rate any weather advantage.
Ocean or lake, it's still a damp cold. Patriots have played and thrived in winter weather.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yea well I had a bunch of shit to say but after reading all of your posts, you guys pretty much narrowed it all down. FUCK!

Jeff, Im buying what you had to say today. But shit man we gotta wait till satuday for a new thread?

  • In reply to soupbowlorbust:

The Bears can win...they should win. Will they?
In order to win the Bears and Soldier field crowd need to do what the Pats did on Monday night. Make plays to get the crowd amped up early and it will be hard for the Pats to get everything accomplished that they want to. I'm convinced the home crowd in New England played a crucial role in turning an ugly first quarter into the "dismantling" that every one keeps talking about. SO an already aggressive Jets Defense was forced/coaxed into repeated desperate attempts to get home on blitzes. The Bears shouldn't fall into the trap the Jets did 1)because they're at home and 2)they aren't stupid aggressive in the Ryan tradition, but stranger things have happened.
The Bears should seriously consider scripting their first 10-15 plays on O because they have been absolutely terrible in their first offensive series almost all season.
Rush four (keep Peppers on the same end for Pete's sake!) and keep everything in front of the Defense and wait for a mistake. And finally, the home crowd needs to be LOUD every down on defense. Brady and his O-line are great but not flawless. Remember how Vick had no INTs coming into Soldier Field? Well let's make Brady make a couple errant throws too. If you are at the game you are expected to come home without the ability to speak...period! Everyone keeps saying all we need to win is the last two conference games. Well why not this mind-ballingly amazing inter-conference one too?
    Bear effin' Down!

  • In reply to buckbear:

Scripting plays sucks. Doesn't allow for adaptation and reacting in real-time. Then again, Cutler hasn't been too good at that ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

We do need to win out though. No point in just handing home-field to Atlanta. We're pooched in that scenario.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And just because it would be RIGHTEOUS!

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    +1

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

CST^^^^^^^^^ The Patriots(Unlike the Bears with Chicago) don't actually play in Boston.

  • In reply to soupbowlorbust:

    +1
We have no advantages over the best QB in the league and the only rival to Joe Montana. The Bears will have to give something up, and Brady will sure as hell take it. Even the '85 defense had their lunches eaten by Shula and Marino (that dumb rabbit-looking fuck).

  • In reply to Crowned:

    half

  • In reply to Crowned:

Perhaps Trac can help all of us with this story.

Do you guys remember when Steve Johnson of the Bills dropped an easy TD catch to beat the Steelers in OT two weeks ago? He was wide open, I mean WIDE open and the bay landed softly right in his arms like a gentle snowflake hitting the Earth.

Yeah, well, he didn't take too well to dropping that ball. He turned his wrath to God. On Twitter. No - I am not making that up.

"I praise you 24/7!!! And this how you do me!!!," Johnson tweeted. "You expect me to learn from this???How??? I'll never forget this!! Ever!! Thx Tho."

Thanks, though? I think this is like kneeling at the altar and telling God "yeah, what-EVER, dude."

Wasn't Bill Murray who said "Don't Tweet Angry" in Groundhog Day? That was a God punishes man story too, I guess, so it all comes together in the end.

    Hilarious.

  • In reply to gpldan:

If that hadn't come from a professional athlete I would say that it absolutely has to be parody. And brilliant parody at that.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Good point Crown. Two nice observations there. Will Cutty see this as Cutler v Brady, and Martz see it as Martz v Bellichek as opposed to the Bears v patriots?

  • Jay Leno: "Is he (Steve Johnson) serious? The Bills are 2 and 9! God stopped caring about them WEEKS ago!"

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Wow, that's a shocker... Jay Leno ('s writters) are actually funny once in a while.

  • Come on Al - Sunday game is not in Tucson, and you know it's not even like Mount Limon or is it Lemon in the summertime.

Get in the Merecedes and take a trip into the wild North again this winter. The boys in the Yukon, Dawson, Chilcoot Pass and St. Michael on the Bering Sea will keep the fire going. Oh, and on Lakeshore Drive as well.

  • In reply to kenbill:

I'm staying here. Temps are headed back towards 80 this week, thanks.
I could walk to the Sports Bar I watch the games at when they're not on the local. I go weather they're 9-3 or 3-9.

There's a lot I miss about Chicago. The weather ain't one of them.

Thgis will be a CBS game so, even though it's been moved to a later start time, the Cardinal game will not be a factor and it could very well be the local station's game.

Bears-Lions WAS the early game on the local FOX outlet last Sunday.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

By the way, it's Mt. Lemmon.

  • Great word... brain scan must have come out ok. Unless your mommy is posting for you SD.

Even Charles Foster Kane would not enjoy this forecast.

  • Whoops! I trust the Citizen Kane reference was not too arcane. Joseph Cotton warns Welles about Chicago winters - remember those.

  • In reply to kenbill:

    No, I got that one.

The irony of Kane is, if Hurst had just ignored the fucking film instead of trying to strong arm the cinema owners into not showing it, he probably wouldn't be so tied to the damn film.

  • In reply to kenbill:

    "Rosebud".

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

By the way, the use of the term, "Rosebud", and not the fact that the film was a thinly disguised biography of publisher William Randolph Hearst, was the reason Mr. Hearst tried to smother CITZZEN KANE'S release.

It seems "Rosebud" was Hearst's nickname for a certain part of his mistress' anatomy.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I butchered Hearst's name, and replaced it with the company that invented the T-shifter.

    -25 points for me.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

oh yes, Hearst liked to enter through the back door. Maybe Peppers can do the same to Brady, metaphorically speaking, of course.

  • In reply to kenbill:

    Jeff -

Weather favors the Patties. For the simple reason we can't really run the ball. We've gotten better at sweeps and moving pockets, but now is I-formation pound ball, and we have no bruiser and no push up front.

The Pats can play smashmouth with Moby Dick and pals. And, I predict, they will. With BenJarvis.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Whoopi Goldberg and the Wooden Midget do not scare me. Brady throw's the ball well in the cold. He loves throwing cold balls. Side note, he likes warm balls on his chinny chin chin.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

What do Len Bias and Rock Hudson have in common?

They both got hold of some bad crack.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Shouldn't that be 'bad cock'?

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Um, the Patriots have 9 turnovers this year. They have played in 3 games where the +/- is 2 or greater. They are 1-2 in those games, with the win coming in overtime.

The key, as per usual, will be to keep the ball and take it away. If the ball is taken away, score a touchdown. Special teams TDs can also make up for a lost ball as well.

They haven't turned the ball over in 4 games.

And yes, they lead the league in least TOs.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

No turnovers in four games just means there due for a nice 3 turnover game. Back me up with some of your fancy math knowledge Doc

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Exactly. I am saddened by all the Debbie Downers today.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

And we lead the league in takeaways and fewest passing TDs allowed, fewest points allowed and stopping the opposition on 3rd down. Yay Bears!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    Salty chocolate balls.

  • In reply to gpldan:

True, the Pats have a change-up at back. That's been Angelo's/Lovie's biggest glaring in-season frak-up. Not giving us a change-up of backs. Forte=Taylor there is no difference. Average-sized backs. I'd love to see us with a Tolbert/MJD plus a Michael Bush/Brandon Jacobs type to complement Forte/Taylor. I want Jimmy Mac's brain transplanted into Cutler. I want the return of Texan bars confectionery, a new Star Trek series and world peace without armies. And a damn record contract for Melissa Polinar who can't get one because she looks Asian.

We may have an answer though GPL. Death-star at FB, I'm tellin ya. I could run the ball behind that MF. I'd just be afraid that his sphincter would suck me in with the backdraft if he farted ... or Manu at H-back and Fatboy follows him in. Patriot pancakes.

  • And now some Claude Chabrol references...from his famous New Wave NFL films reviewed in Cahiers du Cinema.

  • In reply to kenbill:

Oh Jack, you lost me. And I'm the Dennis Miller of obscure references. Time to break the googles out.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Me too, on the Claude reference, GP.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Here's a question I can't answer:

When, if ever, have the Bears defeated a 10-2 team?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Probably never, Al. That's why it's time to do so Sunday.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    good one.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Closest thing I can find, so far.

1963, 2nd game against the Packers. Both teams were 8-1.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Bears dealt the Packer there ONLY 2 losses that season.

    Packers finished 11-2-1.

Bears finished 11-1-2 and went on to defeat the Giants in the championship game.

The Giants went into the championship game at 11-3.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Couldn't happen in a regular season game prior to 1961 when the season was only 12 games long.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

2007 Bears beat a packer team late in the year that had 12 wins.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

And it was fucking cold on the lakefront that night my friends

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    hahah I remember that one.

I think it was the wind, not the cold, that made the difference in that game. Green Bay's punter had 2 punts blocked, a fumbled snap, and kicked a 9 yarder. It was unbelievable.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    Excellent get, Coach.

I remember the game but forgot that Narcissus & his boys were 12-2 going into it.

It was absolutely FRIGID that day. The bears seemed to revel in it but that game clear was the harbinger that Narcissus was no longer any good in the cold. A fact he confirmed in the playoffs that season vs. The Giants in Green Bay.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/200712230chi.htm

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

What the Pats-Jets game showed was that the Bears MUST be productive on offense. New England had a HUGE field position advantage because the Sanchize and his pals couldn't move the ball.
The Patriots started something like 4 or 5 first half drives in Jet territory.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

I can't stand watching the national media give an old fashioned to the Pat's every week. Being from Ohio I had the pleasure of watching them get embarrassed by the browns who have a rookie from Texas and a superior white running back.

Pat's just came off of a huge win and they are still basking in the unwarranted attention of the national media. This bodes well for our bears.

  • In reply to ColumbusBear:

Good eye on the superior white running back.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Hillis is white? I just thought he was an albino black dude. No white guy can gain that many yards in the NFL.

but god help you if you don't give the tax man his cut."

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I fear the taxman, and do everything by the book, Al. ALWAYS pay the taxman on time. I was about a week late on a payroll tax payment when the economic meltdown started in 2008 (poor cash flow), and got hit with a $900 penalty.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

The IRS are nothing short of fascists who are above the law. Congress tried to introduce income tax for the second time in 1913. The supreme court ruled it unconstitutional. The sixteenth amendment did *not* impose any new taxes or powers of taxation. These rulings were never overturned. There is no law which requires you to pay income tax. But if you don't pay it, they'll bang you up quick smart. The IRS have no constitutional or statutory powers to do this. The U.S. constitution forbids a direct unapportioned tax on the wages and salaries of American citizens. The Supreme court has ruled that the income tax is a tax on profits and gains, not wages and labor. The IRS are gangsters and hoods!

I watched documentary evidence of a juror saying that they asked a judge to tell a judge to point out the law that requires people to file tax returns. (Judge Coogan - the U.S. Government v Whitey Harrell)

The law stated that "anyone required to file a Federal tax return must file an Illinois tax return". But no one is required by law to file a Federal Tax return. It's unconstitutional.
Under the law, you are required to fill out a 1040 correctly under the threat of imprisonment by lower courts (against Supreme court rulings) if you do not correctly comply. By law, the IRS are required to give you a receipt, pointing out exactly what was done with your money. Any of you guys ever get one?

    Fight the power.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Correction : There is no law which requires you to pay income tax on wages and labor. There *is* a law requiring you to pay income tax on profits and gains.

is it just me or do any of you think our team is just UNIQUE!

  • How can you like the penalty, but not the fine? If you thought it was a penalty, than it should have been fined. If you thought it was a missed call, then he shouldn't have been fined.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

The nature of the play wasn't really a question of the severity of the hit, it was more a question of the placement. If he hits him in the helmet, it was violent enough to fine him, but he made a legal hit, he shouldn't have been fined.

  • Wow, is that actually a troll that is respectful and knowledgeable? Shocking. There's Boston proper for you. Nice to have you here CST.

Unlike the Neanderthal Pack fans who only know how to be contrarian and rude. Bloody ponces'

  • Of course not, and that's why I elaborated with a second comment. That kind of play deserves a fine if he hits him in the head, and doesn't even deserve a flag if he doesn't hit him in the head. It's either a blow to the head that deserves a flag and a fine, or it's a legal tackle. It was a bad call. He shouldn't have been flagged. Obviously it's hard to see that at game speed, which is when the ref's have to make that decision, but that doesn't mean the Ref made the right decision. It's understandable, and it's forgivable, that Hochuli made the call, but it was obviously still the wrong call. Just like when they rule incompletions as interceptions because they can't notice the ball move when it hits the ground. It's an understandable call, but it's still the wrong call.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

Have a look at our boy Roy's film session.

No shit. Don't any people actually WATCH the damn film before commenting on it?

I truly cannot understand the controversy over such an obvious personal foul.

Back to the Suh hit. I like how every national outlet makes it sound like the Bears scores only because of a "Questionable" hit. We were driving the ball down their throats at the time. Cutty may not have gotten the 1st down but it would have been 3rd and 1 and as long as we aren't on the 1 yard line, we would have gotten that no problem.

    BEAR DOWN

One angle I haven't heard yet regards a Bears victory. I don't know what's going to happen in this game, but I give the Bears an edge, and it could be a huge edge. NE plays GB at home the next week. The Pats are like 26-1 after a loss. The Bears could take a huge two game lead in the division if they win the next two games.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

  • Our good friend Do Banks on the 8th ranked Bears (behung 8-4 GB and the jets)

    Chicago Bears (9-3)
The Bears defense is ranked third overall in yards (300.3), third in points allowed (16.0 ppg), second against the run (84.9), and has only given up as many as 20 points four times in 12 games. In other words, the Bears D is back and has a lot to be proud of these days. Still, if I were Chicago defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, I wouldn't have my guys watching too much video of Tom Brady's surgical destruction of the Jets in preparation for Sunday's visit from the red-hot Patriots. It could be a morale killer, and not conducive to their mental health.

So I get we shouldn't let these morons get to us, but when we beat the pats and minny and GB and end up the #1 or 2 seed, I AM going to organize a bombing of his email with our wrath. Who's with me.... AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeh Banks has been effing us in the A all season HOWEVER not as bad a Peter King. If you're gunna bomb Banks, I recommend King instead. At least Banks called us beating Miami.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

But ONLY if you mean send a ton of emails by bombing!

What in THEE fuck is that?

Dear Lord Jebus. I don't know what's worse, the hair or the mouse on his lip. That's somebody who just doesn't give a fuck and reminds people of it constantly when he's drunk.

  • Three Bears are leading in the Pro Bowl voting: Peppers, Urlacher and Hester.

We can vote early and often through December 20th. A good way to pass the time while waiting for Sunday..

  • In reply to sjvl:

Please make me a case for a NFC Corner playing better ball than Peanut Tillman.

I could maybe give you Asante Samuel, and Woodson isn't really a corner - and then who?

  • In reply to gpldan:

    You forgot charles tillman GP.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    You forgot your coffee.

  • In reply to gpldan:

It was a bad joke, I already regretted it before I even hit the post button.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Peanut and Corey Graham should be getting some pro-bowl love. He's leading the league in special teams tackles. If the fans don't vote him in, the coaches better.

  • In reply to Crowned:

    +1

  • In reply to gpldan:

Thank you GP! I have voted for Peanut numerous times, and was hoping to inspire fellow bloggers to do the same. He deserves this.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Has this guy even seen the Patriots play. Cold weather is a reason for favoring the Bears? Really? Maybe it's a wash at best, but I have seen the Patriots play in snow a few times in the last 3 years, and they have crushed every team they play during a snow storm. 2008 vs Arizona. Score was like 55-7. 2009 vs the Titans. Also like 55-7. And Monday nights game actually had a few flakes. It stopped quickly, but as soon as my wife saw them, she said "It's going to be a blow out" and yeah, 45-3.

Cold with a chance of snow. Heck, if I could pick the conditions, that is what I would pick.

  • In reply to sricker:

How is boston this time of year, and oh yeah... thanks for giving us Peter King.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

How can you tell he's from Boston MB? I thought people from Boston even typed with a douchy accent.

  • In reply to sricker:

Just wait till Sunday Nancy.. That cap toothed, horse face you have at QB hasnt seen a D like this in his life.

  • In reply to sricker:

You'll notice in this comment above, the teams the Patriots played are both from warmer weather climates.

  • In reply to sricker:

I actually associate snow and cold weather more with the Pats than I do the Bears.

  • +1. The 49ers looked like "The Cold Weather team" That day. It was hard to watch.

  • That's why I don't believe Bennett just couldn't learn the playbook last year and that's why he didn't play. The guy is obviously our smartest WR if you've heard him talk. It's not like he went to the U. He went to Vandy for shite sake. Dumbass Turner.

  • He might just luck us right into the big game. Artoo at the Superbowl on the Cowboys stadium Jumbotron. Artoo, do I hear Leno calling?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

hey, I already got an idea if they go to the Superbowl, kinda too early to be talking about it but if they do. I will be there.

  • I just walked passed Fred Savage from Wonder Years walking around downtown. I think he's in a play here or something. Right before he passes me I ask, "Did you bang Winnie? I'm talkin obviously off-set." He stops and looks at me kind of perturbed and says, "I was 13 when I was on that show." I then asked, "So, did you get it done?" He stared at me again, said "no" and then walked away.
    Fuckin pussy.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Yeah who would have thought that Fred "the" Savage "Beast" would just walk away. I would like to see you pull that shit with Mario Lopez! He would plie' all over your ass.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

What 3 tips would you give to a nerd or any other guy?
    -Socialize
    -Be friendly
-Don't talk in your shirt, unless it's a formal event!

    >> WTF? "Don't talk in your shirt ..." If she means 'tuck' that is some funny shit.

There used to a 20 watt light bulb chick in an office I worked in. She would tell people not to "get up on their high pedal stool ..." and used the word "pacific" instead of "specific". No one ever corrected her but just exchanged knowing glances with each other. For years. I felt bad for that at the time.

i want to let my barrage of stories loose but i fear that someone will acutally know who i am after they read them if they stumble upon this blog. These stories i have saved up are so fucking ludricrous that if i heard someone tell them i wouldn't believe it.
I'm trying to score tickets to the game this weekend. Let me run some zak morris schemes and i will come back with a story. My idiot friends are having a tailgate with a couple bottles of jameson and some hot as balls chili. i must find a way to go to this game. we are going to shock the world. bear down.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

sadly BJ's at halftime is a distant dream for me. that's all Crown. I had to fight the good fight on this one and had to agree to some outrageous chore duty as a result. She is a like a russian chick only in her eastern european rage and freakish punching ability

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I'm still working on the halftime BJ. The stretching exercises are going well, it's just that one damn vertebra ...

I don't know if these would pass, Johnny. Irish doesn't do Haiku ...I'm a poet and don't know it ... do you?

    Limericks are the thing ..

There was a young hack called Don Banks,
who used pictures of Brady for wanks,
    always the Bears he'd attack,
    in articles of cack,
we keep winning regardless, so thanks.

There was a fat tool called P King,
whose rants on the Bears he would sing,
with a head like a skunk,
    his whole life spent drunk,
about football he knew not a thing.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I have to put that on a bedsheet. that would make sports center in a new york minute. Holy shit did that make me laugh and the Peter King one would actually make the news. How can i accomplish this feat? This was like reading a complex Joyce piece. So many levels, so many, many levels.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

  • I can take care of myself Doc, especially against Fred Savage, but thanks. Fuck it, I'm sticking strictly to Bears talk from now on to avoid ruffeling the feathers on here. People either don't believe me or get annoyed. Thought I had a receptive audience, but not worth it anymore.

So, how bout Robbie Gould and his career long FG last week? Not that was something.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Are you fucking kidding me? Stop what....

If you stop Crown, I'm going to go pick up the Coach and come fuck you over with Doc's rape foot.

Look you glorious bastard, you better keep that shit up damn it.

  • Damn Doc, not gonna be any one left on here if you keep this up...LMAO

  • Moley, moley moley moley.

  • Nice fucking work doc!!!

Just kidding mang, I don't think crown too your comments that way.

  • Crown, I have a feeling you might enjoy these two reads: http://www.uncrate.com/men/entertainment/books/the-big-books/

  • Yeah, that joke is no more than five years old.
    Bastards.

  • Did you hear Sal Palantonio today on ESPN Radio? He basically can't understand why we are even bothering to have a game Sunday, the Pats are just soooooooooooooooooooooo good.

  • In reply to sjvl:

Sal Pal is still pissed the Bears spanked his Eagles.

  • In reply to sjvl:

Well, it dawns on me that I WILL be making a pilgrimmage to my local watering hole for Sunday's game. The Cardinals will host the Broncos, ergo, the local CBS affilliate will have to carry that game and not the Patriots at the Bears.

We went down 41 (when it was still just a 2-lane,"Pass With Care" highway) to visit friends on a farm near Terre Haute every summer.

When you picked it up outside chicago there was a big sign teling how many people had died on that "Killer Hhighway"'.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Reading around the web this morning, I learn that all the Bears can possiby hope to do Sunday is contain Tom Terriffic and hope (desperately) to take advantage of the Pats' novice defense. I learned that the Bears hae an incredibly difficult schedule ahead of them, and that no one expects them to be able to 'hang onto' any playoff hopes. I learned the Bears get breaks, while the Packers break bones.

Remaining true to my tenacious optimism, I say:

    BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS!!!!

With all this crap flying around, our vicory Sunday may (and I say may) be sweeter Chickens and the Peckers. I hope the paramedics take Tom Terriffic to Cook County Hospital....

  • In reply to sjvl:

This is the motivation our team needs. Let the pundits down play our talent. Bears love to show up when no one in the national spotlight believes in them.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Well, you could do the honorable thing and bench Brady.
I mean, what's the priority? Do you hate the Pats or want to lose by a slightly smaller margin in DBB league?
