  • Oh, YES!!! What a lovely scenario!

    It is so sublime, yet...deliciously EVIL! Worthy of punctuation with a "BHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Another guy who does more damage when he escapes the pocket.
    Witness the bootleg on which he scored their only offensive TD against the Steelers with last week.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Yeah, that was nicely done, but his rushing totals don't worry me. That was also the first offensive touchdown the Jets scored in two weeks.

    The Jets are a team Chicago should handily demolish. If they don't then we'll all get to enjoy Wildcard playoffs at Soldier Field.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

    I agree, Ghost. I think the Jets will get unwrapped the day after Christmas.

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

    Merry Christmas to EVERYONE on Da Bears Blog!
    You guys (and occasional gals) make the year that much more enjoyable and I'd miss you guys if we didn't have this forum for sharing our Bears joy and pain.
    Hope you all have a fantastic weekend and BEAR DOWN!

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Thanks, Mike, but I wonder....

    Which of you is occasionally a gal?

  • In reply to sjvl:

    Well played.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    So my hubby bought me a FABULOUS leather Bears jacket for Christmas, and guess what they threw in as a bonus?

    A Bears/Patriots gameday program.

    Clearly this wasn't packaged by a Bears fan....

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    Sanchez struggles mightily against standard 4 man rushes (5 TDs, 9 INTs, 70.4 passer rating, 57.6 comp%) and the Bears are amongst the best in the biz at it (allowing 9 TDs, 15 INTs, 72.5 passer rating, 63.5 comp%). Obviously Sanchez is capable of some big plays (see beginning of this season), but more likely he will be bottled up (and probably picked off) by the Bears D and a heavy dose of 4-rush zone coverage.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4668696/stats-hint-sanchez-in-for-rough-day

    I'm less certain of what will happen with the Bears O vs the Jets D, but if they can play smart, limit turnovers, and let STs help them, I think they can do better than the Jets O vs the Bears D. I wouldn't be surprised however if Martz tests the Jets D early with some shots downfield, to try and put them on their heels the rest of the game. I'm eager to see how they approach this matchup, and how well the O does.

    P.S. Watch out for some Cutler runs -- he should get some opportunities vs man coverage, especially if they game-plan some rollouts or moving pockets...

  • In reply to 750mL:

    Sanchez is promising, no doubt, but lately he looks every bit of what he is, namely, a 2nd year QB.

  • In reply to 750mL:

    Agree Michael L. I posted this in a previous thread, but I think it compliments your diagnosis (sorry for the reposting, but I always seem to blog at the tail end of a thread, a buck short and a dollar late...story of my life lol)

    Football Stuff:

    What worries me most in this game is the Jets "exotic" blitz packages. Our O-line is bad against vanilla packages, yet alone more complex schemes. It took them like 3 games to figure out corners can blitz! I'm specifically thinking of Webb, but Kreutz falls down a lot, Williams couldn't get a push even if he lived in Vegas, and Garza and "Omlette" are serviceable at best. So to me, this game is all about how much "progress" our Oline has made, and how far we go in the play-offs really relies on them.

    Second worry, though far less troubling, is our sub-par playing at home, esp after a big victory. Remember the second go around vs Detroit? "No, it's not a trap game. The lions almost beat us the first time" then the Bears came out as flat as pop left open overnight. Coming out flat has been a disturbing trend for our D as of late too, which perplexes me. Even Grandpa Favre came out and scored in the opening drive. We gotta stop that complacency shit! Get a little Ray Lewis in you and come out foaming D.

    But, that being said, I do trust our Defense and SPteams to dominate (not concerned about Smith or either QB), while our O figures it out and scores just enough. Another blogger mentioned that there will be a lot of hot reads to Olsen and Bennett, and hopefully that's the way it goes since that will mean that Culter is not being sacked by the Blitz, or that Cromartie and Revis is anywhere near the ball. The key, as almost always, will be Culter's decision making and foot skills (had to get that in there lol).

    Go 2010 Division Champs Chicago Bears!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

    I feel dirty picking the Cowboys. Tough week. Nice job bookies.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

    Jacksonville -7 over Washington
    The Skins are without their best QB and the rest of that team might be the only ones more upset at hearing "Rex is our quarterback" than the Chicago fans.

    Detroit +3 over Miami
    The Lions come to play every week. The Dolphins are done for the year. This would be even easier with a +4 given the Lions trend of close ones.

    Chiefs +4.5 over the Titans
    Tough one because of the spread, but I just don't see the Titans hanging with KC at home. CJ will still have a big game though.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

    Wonder if anyone will be tempted to play that Viklings line... 14.5 points is a lot to spot anyone.

  • In reply to mottystone:

    It all depends on if they were truly embarrassed last week and have any character. They folded up the tent against us and I have no idea if they will unfold it the rest of the year.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    That IS a lot of points. AP is back in the lineup and the Eagles HAVE been vulnerable to the run.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    No Favre + Eagles = GO VIKINGS!!!

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    this is the reason why i like Jay so much. instead of doing this for publicity, he's doing it for the right reasons: service & giving back to the community. like Jensen said, he's not uncomfortable around the media...he just doesn't want to deal w/ their shit b/c he values his privacy.

    there's only 1 QB i'd take over Cutler right now: Brady (for obvious reasons on & off the field). but Cutler is stepping his game up on the field and is a good, all-around dude off the field (as of right now). to tell you the truth, i think this is how he really is...

    great post B85

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    Still wrapping my brain around rooting for the cheese. Perhaps a few cups of cheer will help.....

    BEARY CHRISTMAS everybody! Hope St. Halasus is good to all you boys and me.

  • In reply to mottystone:

    We might not have Mr. Earl the pearl for the Jet's game.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    Yeah, he did kind of mysteriously disappear from Monday's game.

    Towards the end of the lost post, there was talk of Parcells going to the BiQueens. I really doubt it. Unless Tuna likes McNabb, I just don't see him going there with no viable QB. Same with Cowher or Gruden.

    Hope we pound Rex's girls.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    I heard he could wind up there (NFL Network, as I recall) but I didn't hear that it would be as coach.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    I don't think Tuna will ever coach again. I don't see him going to the BiQueens as GM because without a QB they will be pretty mediocre for the near future. Unless they get McNabb and he plays well. Tuna's got a big ego and I don't think he wants to tarnish his rep.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    Eh, after what he "accomplished" in Dallas and Miami don't you think it's too late to worry about tarnishing his rep?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    No way does he ever occupy the sideline again.
    He will ONLY be brought back as a consultant or GM...and I don't think the GM idea appeals to him.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    agreed. Parcells is not going to BiQueens, unless they decide to mortgage their entire draft for that kid from Standford.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Happy Holidays everyone. I hope everyone gets their Christmas Goose.

  • Dallas -6.5 over Arizona:
    Just like when the Bears play in Phoenix, when the Cowpokes come to town, it sounds like a home game for the visitors. I expect the Cowboys to "WARE out" young Mr. Skelton.

    Tampa -6 over Seattle:
    Yeah, I know they lost to the Lions at home last week but, frankly, I don't think the Seahawks are as good as Detroit these days.

    Jacksonville -7 over Washington:
    Deadskins or Rexskins, take your pick. I think they will let down after their big effort against the arch-rival Cowboys.

  • It was cold but I am glad it wasn't like the last two games because I would have never stood up lol

  • Chicago Bears rookie safety Major Wright(notes) was fined $10,000 by the NFL for leading with his helmet on a hit against Vikings quarterback Joe Webb(notes).

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    OK, so someone please explain to me why Antoine Winfield only got hit for $7500 for opening a 3-stitch wound on Cutler's chin?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    I think it has to do with "intent". Winfield, to his defense, tried to pull up, and even held Culter up, but the damage was done already. Winfield has never been known to be a dirty player too, which helps.

    Major Wright INTENDED to put the hurt on. And to be honest, I like it. He goes for the big hit, and between him and our faux-linebacker Harris, receivers when watching film of the Bears are gonna be thinking twice about going over the middle. To be honest, I think the Eagles wrs were a bit timid, and I don't blame them.

    Suh is another bad mo-fu who has quickly earned the rep for being an enforcer.

  • 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Blog

    Not a blogger was stirring, not even the Fader-Blog;

    The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

    In hopes that St. Halas soon would be there;

    The Bears were nestled all snug in their beds,

    While visions of multiple sacks danced in their heads;

    And Ginny in her 'kerchief, and Mickey in his Canary sweater,

    Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

    When out on Soldier Field there arose such a clatter,

    They sprang from their bed to see what was the matter.

    Away to the field they flew like a flash,

    And tore through the tunnel to see the big clash.

    The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

    Gave the lustre of mid-day to our Gladiators below,

    When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,

    The Ghost of the Bears past, fighting their Nemesis Green Bay here,

    With Lombardi, so lively and quick,

    They knew in a moment they'd see St. Papa Bear in a nick.

    More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

    And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

    "Now, NaGurski! now, Blanda! now, Grange and Luckman!

    On, Lujack! on Adams! on, Piccolo and Payton!

    To the top of the Stadium! to the top of the wall!

    Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

    As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

    When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

    So up to the heavens the coursers they flew,

    With the field full of gladiators, and Papa Bear too.

    And then, in a twinkling, they saw in the skies

    The battling and clashing and the battle cries.

    As they drew in their head, and was turning around,

    Down to the field St. Papa Bear came with a bound.

    He was dressed in his long coat, from his shoulder to foot,

    And his cleats were all covered with grass and soot;

    A bundle of plays he had flung from his sack,

    And he looked like a genius as the plays crushed the Pack.

    His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

    His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

    His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

    And the glistening of snow on his chapeau;

    The gnashing and grinding of his teeth,

    And the smoke that encircled his head like a wreath;

    He had a stern face and stance of power,

    That shook, if his team played had sour.

    He was a right old elf,

    And laughed when Ginny saw him, in spite of himself;

    A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

    Soon gave them to know they had nothing to dread;

    He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

    And calling out the plays; then turned with a jerk,

    And laying his finger aside of his nose,

    And giving a nod, and up he had rose;

    He sprang to the heavens, and to his team gave a whistle,

    And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

    Ginny heard him exclaim, ere he rose out of sight,

    "Happy NFC Champions to us, and to my Bears a good-night."

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    maybe the finish should be-

    "Happy Super Bowl Champions, and to my Bears a good-night"

  • If the Cowboys cover, we're in great shape (which Cards team shows up should be interesting).

  • Going in there puts me in the foulest mood. Inventory control sucks, lines are long, way too hot in the summer and my sense of elitism suffers greatly when I mix with the great unwashed. Unfortunately, I save 20-40% over the places where the beautiful people (other than me) shop. One day, I will make my fortune and achieve Walmart escape velocity...

  • In reply to tobijohn:

    I do a lot of work for Wal-Mart stores, and have a very high opinion of that company. They always pay on time and the managers are easy to work with. Wal-Mart has also saved my ass a few times. Had two major ice storms back to back, and no salt was available anywhere in town. I was in a pinch a few times, and Wal-Mart always delivered, with good prices. Too much media bullshit tries to give them a bad name.

    Doc,
    My string has been stretched tighter than ever these last couple of years and though we have profound differences, I should never have allowed my struggles to get the better of me in how I chose to differ with you on this blog. Please forgive me for that.

    Irish,
    You are a mixed bag of idea's my friend and I have enjoyed your participation on this blog. Some of which I agree and some that I don't but I value one comment you made in particular concerning forgiveness. Thank you for reminding me of that.

    MB,
    I appreciate your candor and willingness to see past some of the battles taking place on this blog at times, and I also wanted to thank you for that.

    MikeBrownHaddaPosse,
    I apologize for the frontal attacks concerning our political differences and I will do better next time, I promise.

    Murph,
    Thank you, Brother.

    #16,
    I know where you were coming from on some of the things you said and I pray you are able to take the bad and turn it to good in your life.

    Jeff,
    Last but not least of all, thank you for not piling on or jumping in when others clash and thank you for providing us fans with a stimulating outlet as Bears fans.

    There are many more blogger's here that I have come to somewhat know and really appreciate each and every one of you and I wish you a heart felt Merry Christmas and God Bless.
