Bears at Lions Game Thread

I used this photo in October of last year. Bears won that day. Shall they win again?

  • Could the Hoosierdaddy be first?

  • In reply to Hoosierdaddy:

Could the hoosierdaddy be a bit more silly using the 3rd person?

It puts the lotion on it's skin?

  • Whooo! Hooo! my claim to fame. Prediction: Bears 61 Loins 6.

  • OK, not trying to beat a dead ticket horse, but here's the earliest post of mine I could find, from Dec, 2, 2006, and its a FUCKING HAIKU!

  • In reply to jdawg:

I have to say I'm impressed J. What trips me out moreso, is the fact that we came back to using haikus and most of us were't around back then, so thier use was totally random.

Pretty amazing actually. Ahhhh, those whacky japanese.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

yeah -- I think I was drunk when the Haiku idea struck. I think I must have been reading that book where they took a bunch of transcripts of Phil Rizzuto's play-by-play and published it as free verse. Check it out when you can.

  • In reply to jdawg:

Well played, you've got an ace in the hole.

Didn't I sell you Cubs tickets one year jdawg? haha

You got my vote too you bastard.

  • In reply to jdawg:

Amen Viva. Chew a little ass. And we get the ball to start the 2nd. I predict and Score for the bears and the first defensive 3 and out of the game.

  • Just posted this on the last thread:

December 7, 1941 is "A date which will live in infamy" after Pearl Harbor got bombed and the US entered WW2.

December 7, 1980 was a great day in Bears history. Thirty years ago this Tuesday, the Bears stomped the Packers 61-7. My Dad and uncle bought my Grandpa and their other brother, who are Packers fans, green shirts with just the score of the game and made them wear the shirts for pictures at Christmas. It was beautiful.

You must have been reading my mind hoosier.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Warm, vengeful Christmas memories.....my favorite!! Great story.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

I am feeling bold, predicting the shutout today:

    Bears 27

    Lions Nada

  • In reply to sjvl:

sjvl...love to see a shutout..but I am hoping by the 4th we have Pisa.BU.Brigsy's on the sideline laughing it up and resting for Cheatacheck..

    Bear 27 Lions 10

  • In reply to sjvl:

...and don't fumble 3 times in the red zone while rolling a +295 yard offensive advantage. I can't believe no one talks about the absolute ass kicking that was being delivered during that game. We were fucking killing them and pissed away opportunities. We will take advantage of those opportunities today. run and tell that.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

No one? I wrote a long post about it on the previous thread!

Bears will contain, but not shut down CJ. Bears 30, Lions 10.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

The only way the Bears lose today is if they beat themselves, and I don't see it happening. Go Bengals, Redskins, 49ers. Not sure who to root for in the Falcons / Bucs game.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Forgot the Bills. Kick Bart's ass today.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Back to the subject at hand, the only thing I'm nervous about is Suh putting Cutler on the IR. Anyone remember is twist-off sack from preseason?

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Also, anyone have the streaming link? Isn't it something like adtv.net?

  • In reply to jdawg:

    found it:

    http://atdhe.net/

  • In reply to jdawg:

    atdhe.net

  • In reply to sjvl:

ok, well, half right. We win. Who cares?

  • In reply to sjvl:

It makes me all warm inside that we screwed the Lions again. My husband thinks I'm awful - he just doesn't know what's what.

  • In reply to sjvl:

    PHEWWWWWWWWWWW !

  • In reply to TheFifth:

I believe that game was the first Bear game i ever went to.If i remember correctly the Pack had Lynn Dickey as their Quarterback.
How do i remember this? I will never forget there were some Packer fans who had a sign in the stands that said"You might beat our Packers, but you cant lick our Dickey" I swear to God. It was great.

  • In reply to Hoosierdaddy:

    Wow.

My first game was in 1980 also, against the Oilers, the day they had the moment of silence for John Lennon. It was a really cold, surreal day.

  • In reply to sjvl:

I think my first Bears game was against the Lions in Detroit in 2001. Bears 26, Lions 0 IIRC. An omen for today?

  • In reply to sjvl:

    24-3 BEARS....

  • In reply to sjvl:

    7. Has there been a more complete change of fortunes and image than what's going on with the Bears' Jay Cutler? It's been in part because of his smarmy facial expressions that always grab the camera's eye. It's been in part because of his comments. But Cutler once had an image as a spoiled, entitled quarterback prone to bad moments and underachieving. No more. Maybe the guy is simply intense and competitive beyond what most expected. That's how things change when a player leads a team to an 8-3 record and four-game win streak -- soon to be five, if form holds on Sunday.

  • In reply to bajeezes:

Damn it. 49ers fail to punch it in on 1st and goal from the 2. But they're up 6-0.

  • In reply to bajeezes:

o.k. that's it they have their ten now we score the rest of the game

  • In reply to bajeezes:

wtf.. is the problem with our sp & d are we waiting for the second half..COME ON!!!!

  • In reply to bajeezes:

I hate how we make these 2nd and 3rd string QB's look good. Shades of Todd Collins with Washington. The D better up the intensity! Big let down from Vick to Stanton.

  • In reply to bajeezes:

o.k. O.... grind this out..... BEARS FOOTBALL...and eat the clock up as we go into the half up by 4

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

    Bullshit

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

No FU@%#$!@%$!%NG Shut out today. Crickey

  • In reply to TheFifth:

That game was SCORELESS after 1 quarter.

Vince Evans recorded one of the, if not THE, highest single game QB ratings in Bears' history.

    here's the box score;

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/198012070chi.htm

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

1980 was also the season the Bears beat the Lions on Thanksgiving Day when Evans ran one in as time expired and then Dav Williams returned the overtime kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Man how do you guys find this stuff? True hardcore Bear fans. I love it.

  • In reply to Hoosierdaddy:

Good one Al. I remember going crazy when Williams ran it back. It was the shortest OT in history, at least at that time.

  • I will predict Bears 28, Lions 13

  • a true trailblazer!

  • Stanton is a fucking dead man walking. He is going to see true pressure today.
I wish Pisa was playing but you don't fuck up your knee twice in one year and then not have some repercussions the next season. hopefully the swelling will go down over the next couple of weeks and we can have him for the playoff run.
Offensive balance and strong D and ST and we win this one by at least 14. No injuries is IMPERATIVE.
    Bear Down in Motown.

  • I'm feeling confident the Bears are gonna kick some ass today. If I'm not drinking a Patron shot between 3-3:30 at the bar, then it will be a bad bad day.

  • god I wish Matt Millen was still in Detroit. I always get nervous heading to that barn. I pridict a big 1st quarter and cruise control from there 28-10 but not even that close.

  • love the Bears!!!

  • welcome back Nicole

  • damn Roach Clip out...........CRAP!

  • d is pissing me off..

  • DAMN we look like shit on D

  • FUCK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • shit shit shit

  • WTF WAS THAT????? Defense better wake the F--- up!

  • Nice work, D

  • wtf...has happened to one of the top Defenses in the League?

  • are you shitting me...a knee WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now the offense is playing good enough to win and the d is lookin like shit... Mothafuckas better be getting cursed out in the locker room during halftime. The D looks completely lost.

  • In reply to underway:

Special Teams aren't exactly shining either...

  • WTF why not pick up a few yards and try a field goal. Take a knee????

  • LDL...in the tunnel going into the locker room "we haven't done anything well today"

NOW IS THE TIME TO ADJUST FOR THE SECOND HALF!!!!

  • Dear Lovie,

Why the knee? You trying to ice the game that lead you don't have?

  • Here's the good news - as I type, asses are being lit up. I expect to see a different team in the second half.

  • Everyone CALM DOWN. We got another half to play. Our D will pick up!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

fres...the vein in my forehead is starting to throb...hehehehehe

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

way to start... we are in troubles ladies/gents... Unless something changes ASAP....

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Ok, starting to get real nervous here.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Holy crap, Nate Burleson can predict the future! Lol.

Bears don't look like they want any part of this game. Lions playing harder and faster. Let's hope that changes after this FG.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

FUCK ME ...LDL did you tell the O to try to look like the "D" like shit... because that's what it looks like....

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Way to hold D... to give up 3 in that position is a victory..

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

another three!@#$!@$#%$#!@$%#!@%$ come on it's the LIONS you shits!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Not a good start for the offense. Mike Martz should stick to what has been working - running the ball and quick hits in the passing game.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Thats a win for the D.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Jay needs to learn( a la P Manning) cover the ball and fall!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Is it just me, or are the bears playing in slow motion?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

can we run outside where we actually have gained yards?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

quick slant anyone???? Its like we forget what works and start doing dumb shit

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

STOP THE SEVEN DROP BACK MARTZY YOU MOTHER!@$#!@$#!@$#!@$F!$@#$%!@#%$CKER

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    GREAT PUNT!!!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Theory: Detroit is some sort of twilight zone where Martz and Marinelli lose their powers...

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

How about a little urgency down 6? We're running the play clock down to 1 second every play.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Nice punt (holy shit this is the first positive statement I have made about the game today)

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

time for our D to score!!!!

BU 11 tackles today the most of anyone...where the FU!@$#!@$CK is our D-line

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Loose with the Lions = bye bye playoffs...

  • In reply to Scala:

    And deservedly so ...

  • In reply to Scala:

Come on Cutty time to strap it on and get it done!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

#20 has to make that block on the kick return!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

SHIT HESTER for the third time this year brought down by the kicker/punter DAMN ALMOST!!!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

HOW DOES STELTZ NOT BLOCK THE DAMN PUNTER... FUCK

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I think that's about the 6th time this season Devin's been tackled by the punter.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

okay four sacks!!!!!!! wow 20 to 14

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

O line is lookin like shit....

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    You go Robbie!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

well three is better than 0 but we look like sheite!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

What a bunch of morons. They keep burning the whole clock, and this time even got the delay of game.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    Way to get points... GOULD!!!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

JC has two more yards than the Lions third stringer...wtf?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Fudgepackers have a game w/Niners GO SAMURAI!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

both players were equal!????? it was a fumble Bears Ball!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

our D is starting to look like a Ho in Vegas...everyone is getting a turn on us.....

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Bears just don't want this game. Sad.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

That's #1345 of the things about lovie that pisses me off Lobo. Bears ball anywhere close to halftime and he just gives up! God forbid we might actually score some points before halftime ...

Somebody get Chris Harris out of there, he's the weakest link in our pass defense bigtime. WE should be leading this thing thanks to Bennett and Taylor and Forte. Defense is sucking eggs right now. Can't blame Maranelli, can't expect the sideline Yoda to do the tackling as well.

Looks like Tavaris could be messing with our season, especially if the Lions do what I feared they'd do this year and trap the shit out of us.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Irish!!!!!!!!!!!!!...are you sure it's only #1345???? because my count it's maybe double..hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

as for Brett Girl...it's what I was afraid of also that he would get hurt and Vi-Queens would rally around TJ

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    BIG STAND

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

that end of the 1st quarter TD is starting to hurt.....

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    TOTAL BULLSHIT... TImeout my ASS

  • In reply to underway:

Worked out in our favor, though.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

    agreed

  • In reply to Ufficio:

way to reward the big man!!!! TD BEARS

  • In reply to Ufficio:

NOW "D" IT'S TIME TO SHAVE THIS LION !!

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Total BS on the unnecessary roughness call, but I'll take it!

  • In reply to Ufficio:

It was dumb on his part. With the kindler softer NFL they are not going to tolerate that. Especially on the QB... But I agree there was nothing wrong with that shot..

  • In reply to Ufficio:

If we hadn't spotted them 10 points, I wouldn't be on the verge of a heart attack right now.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

OK back up, now lets EXTEND the lead. No more playing not to lose.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

    Yes!! You still suck Manu !! C'mon D. C'mon boys ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    irish....+1

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    What's with ST today?

  • In reply to tobijohn:

The best thing about today is that ST had a bad game, and did not cost us. But know that Toub will not be happy about it.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

WTF????????? Are we serious... Special Teams????? they are special...CMON BEAR DOWN!!!!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I guess the Bears are just going to do everything the can to keep them in this one.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Wow. When's the last time special teams were this much of an advantage for the other team?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Shit just kick it out of bounds, I'd rather have them start at the 35 than let that guy return kicks today.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

He looks a lot more dangerous than Hester. Pocket rocket.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Special teams!!???? why do you suck today?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Stanton has a QB rating of 107. Why do do we do this?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

irish....they are trying to work the spread... so McCheapsky can buy more canary colored sweaters.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

C'mon Bears - wear 'em down with Deuce Deuce and Chester the Cheetah. Make the play Jay, let's go Bears!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    C'mon offense. End this thing.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

LDL you bitch....you'd probably have Cutty take a knee know..sheite!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

see what happens when we run outside...

  • In reply to underway:

under..you mean as in gain +yards...hahahahahahahahahaha it's a concept to gain yards in a running game.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

yup... I wonder what the average per carry is to the outside vice into the back of the oline...

  • In reply to underway:

    point proven...

  • In reply to underway:

It was 4.2 to the left(I think), 2.1 to the center, 3.7 to the right (on the year) ....

  • In reply to underway:

there you go under in the middle w/Double Deuce for -1

  • In reply to underway:

we need another first down, please DONT RUN UP THE MIDDLE, which is what the Lions know we will do.

  • In reply to underway:

    Jay's got his night-time Panda eyes ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

21 for 26! Nice one Jay.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    No doubt.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Let's hope Detroit can play GB as tough as they played us next week.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

LDL..that's it bitch..have JC kneel..while your at it why don't you throw a challenge against yourself and checkout the spot of the ball..DIPSHIT!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The Lions looked like the better team today. But I am very happy we got the win. I guess playing like crap and still getting the win is a sign of a good team.

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

At least the offense didn't suck, the D will pull their heads out of their asses and Marinelli will count up all those Chris Harris eggs he laid today and play Pringles more ...

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

Damn 9-3 sounds good doesn't it?

Now we'll see if they're playoff ready.

    Let's go Bears!

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

tough win... but a win none the less...

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

Cutler just can't be praised highly enough for his performance this game. Nothing flashy like last week, but he made all the throws he had to, behind a very suspect line, and a few plays with his feet as well.

And way to step up and ice the game on the final drive.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

...just like the Big Boys do.

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

Oh yeah, Bengals making the Saints sweat here.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Except the league will give their Golden Boy Brees the call on the 4th down, when he very obviously moved his entire upper body, a guy on defense flinches, and the Saints get the 1st down. Pure, pure bullshit. Absolutely bullshit.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Something else look really weird to me on that sequence. On 2nd down, the Saints runner got run out of bounds, and the clock kept going. Seems like the Bengals should have had about 40 more seconds to try to get their touchdown.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

+1 SC. Made the same comment to the wife on that play.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

But, as I say eleswhere, THAT'S what happens when you're 2 and 10.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    1) 9-3 is 9-3; jebus, so it wasn't a blow-out. Who f-ing cares?
    2) Drew Stanton has the douchiest TD celebration of all time. I guess when you're the 3rd stringer on a 2-10 team, you take your victories where you can find them.
    3) Planet Smurf! DJ Moore is a baller. And he's a motormouth. I love it.
    4) Suh IS the Lions front four.
    5) We missed Pisa quite a bit, especially when runs were getting bounced to the outside. Hope that knee gets better; we're going to need him versus the short-to-mid passing game of the Pats.
    6) I'm a little bummed that Favre's out and all of the sudden the Vikes offense looks fine, but hoping he recovers long enough to create a QB controversy in Minnesota. That locker room is going to be pissed if he gets handed the starting reins again. I think the Buffalo game is more a consequence of that team just rolling over finally and playing dead.
    7) Lions special teams were great. Like someone said earlier, it was like playing against DH going the other way.
    8) Speaking of Ridiculous, a better block on that punt return and he's gone. His kryptonite is the damn punter??

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Actually, had Hester just run to the outside, he would have been gone. I think that was why he had his head in his hands on the bench. He *knew* he should have taken that one to the house.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    Ya he shoulda had it

  • In reply to Sirwiz:

It was a good win for us. It wasnt ugly. The Lions should get some credit those guys really gave it their all. Our d Was at fault for first half but should up in the end. Good JOB BEARS 9-3

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Agreed, give the Lions credit they played well. The defense came up with the big stop when it counted late in the game.

There is going to be some controversy (again) regarding the Suh hit, but a hit to the head is a hit to the head.

Still, impressive the Lions O didn't turn the ball over once considering they had a 3rd string QB. Stanton looked mobile and made some decent throws, I'd certainly take him over Kerry Collins.

  • In reply to Shady:

What did we gain on the Suh hit - maybe 4 yards (Cutler got the first down anyway)...

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

Cutler was short and fumbled. It'll be interesting to see if Suh gets fined by Goodell.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Todd, Kerry

    Barf, Puke

    whatever.

  • In reply to Shady:

It looked like a forearm to the head in real time plus, Suh already has a reputation for that kind of crap so, too bad, so sad. that's what happens when you're 2 and 10.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Other than losing to OU over the weekend (hahahahahaha), I will also have to listen to Nebraska homers whine about that personal foul all day tomorrow.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Ditto that nonsense.

I hate Suh. I hate Huskers.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

hester outran 2 blockers and gave the punter a shot at him. that's what. Three or four times Hester's been stopped by a kicker this season?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I don't think that one was on DH...his blockers just missed the punter from my recollection.
    Fantastic return though.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Yeah, I remember now...Steltz was busy blocking a hallucination of Peanut while the punter ran straight in and tripped up Devin.
Good work, Craig-O. At least you didn't puncture anyone's lung today.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Give the kicker some credit. He broke down like a safety should, gave up his body, and made the play. Can't remember if anyone missed a block on the play.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Good for him, but there were three Bears in the picture and one Lion. And the two Bears were blocking air.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

The storyline is already starting among the press that the Bears got lucky on the personal foul call. It was a 7 yard penalty. Those complete idiots wonder why newspapers are all going bankrupt. Nobody wants to listen to their bullshit, and bullshit agendas. Reporters are, for the most part, very dumb dumb dumb people.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

I don't even read the national media reports on the Bears anymore. It seems like all they care about is East Coast and the Packers (Packers because they feel sorry for their poor hillbilly small market team and root for the underdog) Every week it's another reason the Bears are lucky. At a certain point you have to say it's not luck anymore and they are winning by design. Special teams, good defense and enough offense to win. Why is it that when the Patriots and Packers win close games it's because they know how to win or their quarterbacks know how to get it done but when the Bears/Cutler do it it's because they're lucky and Cutler isn't that good. Cutler's come miles and imagine once they give him a little time. He's going to be very scary in the years to come if he can keep playing the way he is playing now.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

The blogfather is the alternative media. Thank you Jeff and all the posters for a great Bears forum. This is my #1 news source for all things regarding the Bears. Bear the fuck Down! Have a good time at the game next week Jeff.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Our Defense has to carry us into the NFC NORTH TITLE AND INTO THE PLAYOFFS.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    ???

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

man, my only real fear almost came true as Suh tried to El Kabong Cutler. It also looked like he was still going for his head after the initial blow. Hulk Smash.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

i don't care what anyone says, we all know what Suh was trying to do. Jay Cutler is 6'3 and the only place Suh could hit him was the top 8 inches of his head from behind. It was obviously a head shot and i expected that from Suh. This is a guy that tried to fucking twist a qb's head off a couple of weeks ago. I would do it too if i was him but i'd be ready to get penalized. he was trying to put him out of the game. Don't even try to say that he wasn't. Pundits can bitch all they want. that was an attempted assassination. but the target lived motherfucker and proceeded to get the first down anyway and then delivered a little dump off to that fat dumptruck for a TD. 9-3 motherfuckers.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Hey Jay Cutler like big receivers, right?

  • In reply to Shady:

    jebus *likes*

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Speaking of receivers showing testicular fortitude:

DJ is a candyass, no doubt about it. And when the weather turns ugly, he and the rest of his finesse team will go down in freezing, shivering, whining flames.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Now you know how 90 percent of the teams face when we decimate them on Special Teams. Detroit won the Special Teams battle almost all game long, yet we still pulled it out.

    I second your PHEWWWW, Murph.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    +1, Fres.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Job done. Fuck it. Let's be havin' ye Tom. Go Bucs !!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Cutler takes a knee and we fade to black. Not easy to watch at times but they got it done and got the W. Nice work guys!

Jay Cutler and Mike Martz have got it going right now, even with a suspect pass protection.

    mmmBearssssmmmmmm

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Well, feeling just a little bit warmer....but still an uphill climb all the way!!

  • In reply to underway:

glad the Bears got a game like this. make sure they don't take ANYTHING for granted. great medicine going into the NE game. that shit there is gonna be hell.

  • In reply to underway:

    WHEW. BEARS WIN!!!

  • In reply to underway:

why is LDL grinning about beating the 2-9 lions by 4 in a game that could have easily went the other way...

  • In reply to underway:

Simple, ALL wins are good wins.

  • In reply to underway:

    Whew!

Dodged a bullet boys and girls.

Credit where credit is due. Schwartz and his boys could easily be mailing it in by now but they are not.

I doubt the Bears will see a better defensive line this year.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Imagine if they'd had Vanden Bosch in uniform as well...nasty bunch.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Anyone actually watch the GB game? Starks box score looks good. They seem a lot more threatening if they figure out how to run the ball too.

  • In reply to reprisal:

just watched it on replay. Starks looks very effective. Their offense was scary. Couple awful calls cost them 14 or so. They had some miscues early, and their defense got exposed for 3-5 big plays. They looked vulnerable in the first half. Niners dropped a couple wide open deep balls. Donald Driver's touchdown was unreal. The Pack is not going away, though. Rodgers is on a tear. They would hand it to us if we played next week.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

Rodgers is the highest rated QB in history - he's overtaken Steve Young. If Detroit ran us that close in their house, what will GB do to us? I've always believed our division would be decided by that game. If they beat us, they have a better conference record, right?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The Bears and Packers both have three conferences losses. The Bears have two conference games left, both in the division. The Packers have three conference games (Detroit, Giants, Bears). So we would like to see the Giants beat the Packers - of course :-)

For now, the Bears need to beat New England. For the first time in about 8 years, I will be rooting for the Patriots tonight. It would be better to play them coming off a win, especially if the Jets beat them up a little - or a lot.

After all if all the Pats big guns play and the Bears beat them anyway, the media will have no idea what to write, will they? I suppose that could be amusing in its own way.

Oh, never mind. They'll blame it on the field.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

I think we can lose this one. We can't drop on to the vikings.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

yeah, if they win out, they take the division....no matter what we do.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The vikings game is huge, and I'm concerned.

  • In reply to brocklanders:

TJack had 3 picks and one into double coverage that easily could have been picked instead of a TD. We will come to play without a doubt.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I think if there's one thing we've learned this year from watching the bears, it doesn't matter what should have happened or who should have won.......just the final score

  • In reply to brocklanders:

This Bears team is getting stronger and the little letdown in the first half was actually a good thing because it keeps them focused about playing all 4 quarters. The offense is working effectively and Cutler is doing everything asked of him. Now is the perfect time to play the Pats, Minny, Jets and Pack. True tests when we are playing at our most consistent high levels.

  • In reply to underway:

    Doged 2 bullets.

The spoiler-bent Lions AND a game refereed by Odious Ed Hochuli.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

That guy went from NFL cult hero to NLF villain/douche quickly, didn't he?

What happened to you China? You USED to be cool...

  • In reply to Shady:

Yes the NLF, the nation league of frauds.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    lol. Really!!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Dodge the bullet or not. The Lions played a good game against our defense. Hope the D and the ST are a little better prepared for the Pats. We're gonna have our hands full.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

9-3! decent defensive effort. balanced offensive attack, solid effort by Jay going 21-26 with a 116 passer rating. love the forte crossing route and the effort by Earl Bennett. Earl's making me look like a genius with his effort the last 2 years. 7 passes to him today and 7 catches. He just doesn't drop the ball and gets open. straight baller. Key block downfield by Olsen on Forte's run. Kick coverage kept Lions in the game but the boys pulled it out. Can't wait to hear every pundits excuse why the Bears didn't deserver to win. Fuck them all, we will just keep winning. fuck them in the face.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

+3 and you called Bennett's breakout no doubt about it.

  • In reply to Shady:

i just love the conservative but creative offensive scheme so much. it's balanced and takes advantage of our strengths and minimizes the weaknesses. Martz needs to keep a lid on the plays that rely too much on pass protection. those plays get us into trouble every time. the train keeps a rollin'.....

  • In reply to hollywood1:

When you get them looking for the dinks, dunks and runs, you create opportunitues to go for the homerun.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

love the forte crossing route over the linebackers and under the safeties. we are 2 for 2 for 40 yards on that play. if the safety doesn't make the perfect play forte is gone

  • In reply to hollywood1:

You could easily give Forte a number in the 80s and he'd still be an asset.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

For the Bears, I bet you have to go back to Erik Kramer to see back to back QB ratings like Cutler's posted the last 2 weeks.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

By the way, I'd rather see Erik Kramer on Bears Postgame Live instead of windbag Jim Miller who did not mention Jay Cutler's performance once and won't get off the Suh penalty.

  • In reply to Shady:

Jimmy Miller doesn't like Cutler much. I listen to him on Sirius NFL all the time and he's hated on him since last summer.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

i think because Cutler is making everyone forget about him. man, he fucking hates him. It is hard to hear him preach like he was fucking Peyton Manning or some shit. he was a serviceable qb that didn't suck. kind of like hearing dilfer critique anyone besides himself. ironic.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

There was a Rancid sighting on the jeff's last thread.

  • In reply to Shady:

I'm done for a bit - I'm Bears drunk right now.

  • In reply to Shady:

I'm just fantasizing about what Cutler could do if he had an O-line. I hope we take O-linemen with our first three picks. Not that I have any confidence in Angelo's ability to draft offense.

  • In reply to Ufficio:

i think if they keep the current coaching staff Michael Tice will have some input on that. I like the offensive playcalls except that one 7 step drop that resulted in a fumble. We don't need that shit. We need to be in shotgun in those situations. i don't know why the Bears hate the shotgun so much. it would help since we have a suspect oline.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Maybe Olin cannot snap the ball consistently?

  • In reply to Mastodon:

that's exactly what it is. i never knew how a probowl center couldn't shotgun snap and chew gum at the same time. the bears used to make excuses for it and then when he actually snapped it you would see ankle snaps, over the shoulder, to the left, to the right, no timing, etc.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Harry Carey was bitching about that at the bar today (the guy looks exactly like Harry, and talks like him). If available, the Bears MUST draft John Moffitt from Wisconsin. The guy is incredible, and possibly a future HOF'er. He's about 6'5" 323 guard who can also play center. The guy destroys people and always has a smile on his face. He can pull, contain the edge, or just pancake defenders. This won't be my last post about drafting him.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

That's a HOF name. I'll go along with that. Garza's not getting any younger either, In fact, take out the old geezers from our line and it's just pure muck. I'd vote for our top two picks in the draft going on a tackle and a G/C. Big bastard receiver in the third. Draft Urlacher's heir in round one next year (or this year if a special case was available). Are there any stud 'backers in the draft this year that will drop as low as 32nd? Tee hee.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Not the most decisive victory, but a victory nonetheless. A win is a win at the end of the day, no matter how you get it. The fact of the matter is that we got past a division opponent who played us tough. Detroit played a solid game of football today. The Bears played better.

The offense played solid today. Hard to play a better game the Jay or EB did today. Matty and Chester didn't look too shabby either. The D had quite a bit of trouble early, but bounced back nicely in the 2nd half. 49 yards, really? That's pretty freaking awesome.

The only really poor play today on the Bears was the specials. But hey, every team has a bad game from time to time and it's been a really long time since these guys put in a bad performance. So I'm expecting them to bounce back with a vengeance next week. They are just too damn good to have two bad games in a row.

The Chicago Bears are 9-3 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC North! Nicely done gentlemen. 9 and 3 is 9 and freaking 3. It doesn't matter how you get there. Go Bears!!!

  • In reply to mikev:

Agreed that the Lions just played well. My observation is that they made several very good play calls in the first half, and other than one ball that slipped out of Stanton's hand and a couple of drops by that Pettigrew made *very* few mistakes anywhere on the field. At least in that first half.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

In the last 14 years, I've never yelled at an employee, but I guess my anger shows at times. The rumor mill starts, and someone will call me wondering what's going on. I get annoyed often about the little things, but when I get mad I guess it shows, and it makes everyone who works for me nervous. It's not done by design, but production always goes up when I get mad. Maybe Lovie did that today.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Just wish he'd done shouting during the Giants, Seahawks and Redskins games ...

  • In reply to TheFifth:

The Lions game was a chore.Glad we got it out of our way without a sweat.

    Bring the Patriots

  • In reply to johnkos:

Every year, even the very best teams have to win a couple of ugly ones. In 1985, we had to win two ugly over the Buccaneers. This year, it was the Detroit Lions.

  • In reply to johnkos:

Did anyone hear Ditka on Mike & Mike? He's slightly excited about the Bears..

  • In reply to johnkos:

I posted last thread about my experiences at the game. It was crazy.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

one thing lost in all of this: how does Ron Turner feel? lmao...what a sad case of offensive playcalling from that man.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Fuck that Puto!

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Bears tackling, in particular Harris, was piss poor today. Major Wright might be starting by next week. The Bears got a tough win on the road today, and that's all that matters. Four tough games to go. The Bears better bring their A game the rest of the way if they plan on winning the division, and I think they will.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

Thats what I was thinking, Harris got burned on a number of key plays.

  • In reply to reprisal:

And Wright was chopping wood out there. Pringles is about to become a star.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    +1

  • In reply to reprisal:

    Every week ....

  • In reply to FQD1911:

One more point. The Bears D has been lights out this year. They are like a great pitcher in baseball. Aside from the Eagles game, most points have been scored early in the game by the opposition. If you don't score early, the Bears D will shut you down. Marinelli has done an awesome job this year with that unit.

  • In reply to TheFifth:

    +1

  • In reply to TheFifth:

They do seem to adjust to circumstances this season, don't they? But to mirror Irish above, one thing missing in all this is that Urlacher is back. And perhaps as deserving as any point of his career of playing that exhibition game in Hawaii.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

I hope Pisa is back next week. Some may say he doesn't mean much but I saw yesterday how valuable he is against the run. The Lions were able to run the ball yesterday and I think that has a lot to do with Pisa's ability to shoot the gap and make great tackles. I really hope he gets back next week. Call me a sucker and call him overrated but the guys value is underestimated in my opinion.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

You guys know how I felt/feel about that guy. The single biggest improvement in the team (yes, IMO more so than even Julius Peppers) is that Ron Turner is no longer employed by the Chicago Bears.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    +1
We need to draft Urlacher's replacement, but need to draft Kreutz' sooner ...

  • In reply to Ufficio:

Peyton Manning has 4 picks against Dallas. I'm waiting for Joe Buck or Collingsworth to make some pitiful excuse for the shitty performance. Collingsworth would call it "honorable" or some shit for a man of Peytons caliber to continue to go out there and sling the rock around the field when other lesser men would have packed it in and given up. whatever the fuck that means. he actually said that shit the last time Peyton threw 3 picks.

Also, Tampa is shitting the bed and giving away a victory to Atlanta right now in the 4th qtr.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I think he's thrown four TDs to the opposing team in the last two games.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    I'm not complaining.

There are no "Style Points" awarded n the NFL. It either goes into the "W" or "L" column. Period. I didn't see the Steelers apologizing a the game they should have lost to Buffalo.

Was that STUDLEY, not to mention extremely important kick by Robbie Gould or what?

  • I'm not liking anything Doc. We're being owned by a team that has lost its last 18 divisional games.

  • Well said Doc

  • Roger that, Doc!

  • Just win, baby!

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Oh, and have I told you guys I *really* like Earl Bennett?

  • In reply to Mastodon:

He played huge today!!! (Or should I say, all season when we commit to get the ball in his hands.)

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

I've been promoting him since last year. The guy just plays.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Looked like Earl "The Pearl" today.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I was calling him that when we drafted him. Then he had such slow start to his career, but I'm glad to see him coming into his own and I'm glad to see you dustin' that one off. Earl "The Pearl" indeed with a career day.

    mmmBearsss

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

I actually saw the REAl Earl "The Pearl" Monroe play against the Bulls in the early 70s when he was with the BALTIMORE BULLETS. Man, could he fill it up and get the outside shot off QUICK.
The Sloan, Van lier, Walker, Love. Borwinkle, Awtry and Jimmy King beat'em tht night. Gar Heard miht be on that squad too.

  • Thanks for highlighting those points. It was a hard one to watch but they got the job done. Agreed on all points. They still have thier best ball ahead of them. We're going to bring it to both the Cheatriots aaaand the Jets at home. Really hoping we get to finally end Favre proppa style in between those. Take it up to Cow Town for the finale. It's gonna be an exciting end to the season boys!

Hester, run or jump the tackler or ask Manning or Steltz to do their job.

Jay is doing all we need and more. Please keep it up Jay.. that's what his gf said.

Anyhoo, defense only gave up 49 total yards in the second half compared to the 240 something in the first. Way to bounce back D.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

That would be 15 on the season for Peyton and ELEVEN in his last 3 games.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Which goes to show you that NOBODY, not even "Peyton The Great" can excel with crappy pass protection.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

i do love me some Reggie Wayne though. What are the odds that a team would have Marvin Harrison with Reggie Wayne as his protege...as his PROTEGE! I remember when Reggie came in the league. Can you imagine learning the craft from Harrison?
I'll tell you what though. Bennett is a prime time performer and one of the best slot guys in the league. He gets the tough yards and does his job. I want him on the team catching 70 balls a season for the next decade. We can also go out and grab a beast type receiver as well.
We must keep Olsen in the mix. A 6'5 TE that can run must get the ball.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Olsen's in the mix every week, and although his blocking has certainly improved, I'm not loving the production. This is the second game in as many weeks where he has one catch.

Bennett has certainly stepped up - is it being more comfortable with the playbook? If only Knox had Bennett's leg strength ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Take what they give.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Being at the game was epic. I have no voice left and the lake effect snow made for a long drive home but man, what a blast. You would have to have been there to believe the amount of Bears fans, I was in sec 124 and the endzone to my left was 80% Bears. There were 3 Bears fans in front of me saying how bad Lovie was... it was kind of like a little brother thing. I can talk shit about lovie if I want but not some punk ass Lions fan. So as soon as they went for it the second time on 4th and one I said well stop u here and itll be your coach's bad decisions that cost you the game. After that I was relentless screaming at all the Lions fans to sit down pussycats when the haymaker punch was thrown and just being as loud as possible. We even forced a timeout on the red-zone stand down there. It was awesome.

  • In reply to dutsami:

** 3 Lions fans in front of me..

    Nice report GP. Congrats Shady

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Congrats, Shady!!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I have a feeling that the Bears are going to invest in Earl Bennett. I sure hope so.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    Let the hating begin.

Rodney Harrison, on Football Night in America, just predicted that the Bears will lose 3 of their next 4.

    Fuck That Puto!

i went through a period of time in college where i called everyone a "pinche joto" whenever i was hammered. I even called my organic chem teacher a joto when i saw him at a party off campus. Rumpleminze is a hell of a drug.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

+ 1 on the Rumpie joto!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    whatever

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

"Mooch" said basically the same thing on NFL Network.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Playing like we did against Detroit that's extremely possible.
Every game is a dog scrap now. Looks like the Super Bowl is going through Atlanta ... so be it. At least we'll be indoors if Robbie has another long kick.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Great video. He is the man, and coming into his own.

  • 9-3. Not pretty but a v is a god damned v. Go bearss!

  • Yeah, I agree with that.

  • Jim who?

  • Given that the Falcons have two games against the Panthers left, that probably closes the door on any chances we have at the #1 seed. Maybe a good thing for our playoff chances, though. It's going to be tough for two teams to beat us out of wild card now, even if the Packers overtake us.

  • yea u fucking blew me out in the end though. good stuff man. You were the last person to beat me. B A BARACUS right?

  • Thank God we have Jamar Williams ... oh wait ...

  • Stanton can play ball, no doubt.

  • And I'd like to add - in relation to the 8th greatest player in NFL history and the entire Universe - that I can't think of another QB off-hand who threw six picks in a game.

Apparently Lovie got 'angry' at half-time in Ford Field.

"He said we were playing like crap,'' safety Chris Harris said. "He was very angry.''

    >Was he looking at you when he said that Chris? That CJ TD is another on you son. Pringles please.

Question for the board ... at what point to we bench J'Marcus Webb? Can we do it before Cutler gets buried? Shaffer please.

  • I like DJ moore and moore (sorry) all the time.
