Three Ways To Beat the Vikings

Prevent the Big AP Run
I never believe in the statistics when it comes to the Bears rush defense, especially against AP.  Peterson has had a knack for playing possum throughout a first half and then breaking an 85 yarder and breaking open the football game.  For me, this responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of the linebacking corps - Briggs, Urlacher and Tinoisamoa.   If the Bears commit a safety into the box, they will watch Visanthe Shiancoe dominate them down the seam for double-digit catches.
Hit Brett Favre Early
I know this sounds strange to say but early in the game the Bears attackers need to be willing to earn a mid-week letter from the NFL notifying them that they owe the league $25,000.  Brett Favre is a brittle man right now; more brittle than he's been over the duration of his why-won't-it-just-end career.  Julius Peppers and the resurgent Israel Idonije need to make Favre pay for standing in the pocket.  If he's going to strike deep, they need to execute him for his execution.  And yes, they need to embrace the Butkusian concept of hitting a quarterback late to send a message.  15 yards is a slight price to pay for three and a half quarters of Tarvaris Jackson.
Dominate on Special Teams
I believe the Bears have the best special teams in the league but they've yet to dominate a game like they did during their heyday in 2006 and much of 2007.  Devin is Devin but he's been the only superior performer.  The kick returners are a respectable 9th in the league but they haven't scored.  Robbie Gould missed a huge field goal in Toronto and has been inconsistent on his kickoffs (though better with touchbacks).  Brad Maynard has been 85% terrible this season and will have whoever is coaching the team next year bringing competition to camp.  It is time for everyone's A game.  It is time for Bears specials to control field position, momentum and the pace of the game.  If we're meant to expect our best to play their best, it starts with our special teams.

    Damn you blog!!

    Let me try this again:

    FIRST: Ballanced run game

    SECOND: Creative short pass game

    THIRD: Turnovers galore

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Oh, Jay might provide the turnovers galore all right.
"Y'know, I threw five picks at Williams, what can I say? But, y'know, I'd throw the ball at him all day if I saw him again. Fk him. I don't care. Is your girlfriend in 'The Hills' - is she? No, see?"

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Jared Allen's girlfriend might be in the hills.

Oh, and KILL brett farve... or at least take him out of the NFL forever.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    (See how I did that)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

no..... how did you do that?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

There's no I in team, but there sure is a U in cunt.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    Ha!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    I can

  • In reply to MB30SD:

wait... wait... so, 'needs' are more important than random talented players?

ok, but unfortunately, it's been *proven* that you have absolutely no fucking clue what "talented players" look like. Fucken a man, can we please get rid of JA, please please please god?!?!?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ya, I agree. JA should be fired on his draft picks alone. However, IF we have a winning season, make a deep play-off run (getting beat at a wild card game doesn't count) and IF Cowher or Harbaugh from the college ranks, or someone equally as qualified, isn't available next year (Chucky need not apply), then I think we can live with Lovie for one more year...Oh wait, I changed my mind. Fire him too lol

  • In reply to MB30SD:

FYI: Berrian woke up last week and snagged 9.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Means 2 fumbles this week, eh?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Did I read here that the Blogfather has put out a contract?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Give Ginnie $30 million smackeroonies and she'd be delighted to help you MB!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, fuck ginnie, and fuck her $30M. Old bag.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    I would do, for $30 million ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I would for quite a bit less.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Make AP lay it down a couple of times.
He's WAY overdue to cough it up this season.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I think when AP sees Peanut near him, he's gonna go into a fetal position with the football to make sure he isn't stripped. I don't know how many times we forced AP and the Vikes to turn it over, but it seems like a lot. This will be the true test to see if AP cured his fumblitis...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish man... I get that we're mediocre, but damn man. You're laying on the hate thick lately lad.

Again, this is the same fucking team that juuuuuust squeaked one by the cards in OT (cards are ranked 28th in D in the NFL, and are bottom 5 in O). We might not have the top o in the league by a long shot, but our D, specials, and O *in spurts* is MUCH better than anything the cards will ever have this year. I just can

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It's all done outta love MB.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I don't get why these two dipshits are such constant bears haters. have these guys been watching the same vikings team? They beat the fucking cardinals for christ sake... in a god damn lucky squeeker.

Oh well... let's see what happens.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Penis head 1 (Dilweed) talking to Penis head 2 about how the Bears suck and they hate the Bears and the Bears should be 0-8.

    Fuck them.

Dilfer - you giant polished penis head (seriously your head looks like penis head) - you were the worst QB ever to win a Super Bowl on the Ravens. You could have run out there and pulled your pants down and made poop on the field and the D would have had you covered in that game.

Maybe they should lean over at the desk and rub noggins when the feed goes live in San Francisco for some giant symbolic queerness, get some ratings for ESPN.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Watch and tell me why the fuck this guy, when he is on right now, is not touching the ball every chance we can get him? That little stupid thing in the middle goes away after like the 1st 3.

I think this is all of them. That's right, it takes 9 minutes to show all of his Return TD's. Like 1 announcer said, "He is like no one that has ever played the position before". Just the chance that he will do this is worth it. I usually watch these in awe. Tonight it just pisses me off.

    Prevent the Big AP Run-

We are going to find out about B.U.T. which is an extra- NFL intelligence and security organization dedicated to protecting the endzone from all threats, terrestrial(Brett Girl) or extraterrestrial(AP).the Superheros for the Bears!

Do you know what B.U.T. letters stand for?

    Hit Brett Favre Early-

Izzy and Pepe produce the new "PUSSY SANDWICH" with Brett Girl as the meat!

    Dominate on Special Teams-

LDL time to get one's head out of one's arse and put our most potent Offensive Weapon on the field...DH for KR & PR NOW!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think we'll deliver a solid game offensively, but for some reason, I'm concerned for our defense. I know we rank high in most categories, but Fitzpatrick picked us a part last week. I don't see that changing Sunday unless, as you point out, Jeff, we get to Favre early. We don't even need to get to him often. One good hit should do it.

  • In reply to WeShallReturn:

Wow, one of the worst offenses int he league an you're worried about our D? I am truly mystified that anyone is worried about our defense when you look at the veritable diarrhoea we have on offense.

    * No one has fewer passing TDs against them in the NFL
(but we are tied for the third most rushing TDs against us).
    * Third fewest rushing yards allowed

    * Best 3rd down stoppers in the NFL.

There's no point in even listing the offensive stats, they're just depressing. When your two starting receivers ahve 2 TDs between them, you don't need to look further than that.

By the way Fitzpatrick, Steve Johnson and Lee Evans have been picking everyone apart and a lot worse to boot. Their D is the problem, not their offense. We'll need to see plenty more of Manning coming in late on those blitzes.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I'm aware of the stats, believe me. Just a feeling I have.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Have to wonder how long that Queens "locker room hate festival" helps them. Eventually, it HAS to have a negative effect. Falling behind early to the Bears would go a long ways towards pushing the whole situation right off the cliff.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

i was at work today and had a rough, rough week until i realized it was veterans day and i felt like a complete pussy because all i'm doing is struggling against office politics and not dodging enemy fire and kicking down doors. I will never complain again.

Many thanks to all the men and women who are in harms way now, were in the past or will be in the future.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Thank you for backing me a's I have embarked on my Maynard sucks this year campaign. Do be fair he did have hip surgery just a few months ago but he really has killed us when it comes to field position. With Minnesotas line playing poorly I think this will be a game in which the Bears show their wares and put a thumping on the Vikings!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I fear what the Williams pair will do to our Williams. And Kreutz and Garza on the inside.

The Bills game showed a Cutler ready to move his feet. He may need to do so again.

Omlette vs. Mullet is not making me hopeful.

Boy Roy pointed this out. Pocket presence? The problem is, it's not just one side. The whole pocket breaks down all the time. They can't control the inside stunt that well. They need to spend this week with film and more film until they know how many nose hairs each Vikings linebacker has. They need to get off on the run block and sustain contact, esp. Webb and Williams.

And lastly, just go fuck off Manofmoolah and send him out to get donuts for Lovie. He's a useless turd out there. Put Shaeffer in as tackle eligible or just as a 2OT so we can get some protection on the corners.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Excellent points man. Change Shaffer's designation to a TE with a magic marker on whatever bits of plastic need to be written over in the locker room and start him at TE, and just demote the turd Manu to PS and promote Asiata - I don't care what Manu cost us. That's Lovie's biggest problem or one of - serious dollars get invested in some tool, and they have to start regardless of playing ability. Well if that's the case, then man up and promote Chester to top running back.

We are definitely going to have our hands full with the Williams sisters. We're not whacking the Vikings - they either kick our asses or we win it with a last second field goal. I just hope it's not a 40+ yarder ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Yeah this team is a grind it out/ pull off a game saving INT, Fumble recovery, TD catch kind of team. Heart attack on a field. No way around it. We said it would be exciting this season.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish I'm starting to worry about your unhealthy infatuation with Asiata. You got a thing for mushy man tits?

  • Thanks for the kind words on the last thread, Doc.

  • Re the assault Brett Favre thing, Jeff ... are you seriously suggesting we deliberately go out and try and end the guy's career? .......I like it !

  • Our KR are 9th in the league. That is good. But DH is so momentum based with his performances. When he is off, you can see it everywhere. But when he is on, the whole stadium is on pins and needles. Other teams players are yelling at their coaches to stop kicking to him. Do you remember?

He is feeling it on punts but they aren't kicking it to him lately. They have to on KO's or it's the 40. A couple of 1st downs and we are in FG range. He is hot. Ride him. A couple of electric kick returns may give him a boost for his 2 catches on Offense too. Seriously, what is the risk or downside here? Somebody? Anybody?

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    He's hot... ride him?

    Z, common man.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Not that there is anthing wrong with that.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Damnit MB. Sorry Devin if I made it sound like you were part of a gay porn scene there or that you were a horse or something. I meant he has the hot hand, feed him the rock. Like a guy on fire shooting jumpers or something. I will go sit in the corner now and think about what I have done.

But seriously, we can beat these fuckers. O-line and LB's have to have big games. Like Jefe said, we need to somewhat contain AP without a S brought up. And Pepp and Izzy need to keep doing their thing. Tommie even got in some action. This would be such a huge win.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

I know what you meant Z, I was just fucking with you man. Made me giggle reading that shit. hee hee

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I read it again and was like damn, that just doesn't sound quite right does it? Funny.

  • With the great food in Chicago, my guess is 500 pounds and a heart attack in 3 years. Can we win a SB by then? Maybe.

  • And the 2 from this year are missing. So it takes over 10 minutes to show them all. Ridiculous.

  • Hey doc, I am taking cal 1 and having problems, any idea's?

  • yeah, I was expecting that.

  • Nice

  • Based on what though? Because he's a good DC? I like our DC, and if we get a new HC I'd like a guy who's already been there and done that like Cowher or Gruden. No experiments.

  • There's the thing - will Allen eat up the Omelette. I have a feeling he's going to line up opposite Webb and eat his lunch all day long. Cutler will not get to settle like he did against the Bills. It'll be a long day for the Bears O. We have to hope for interceptions and strips and penalties from the Queens.

  • Dude, the league I'm in with you I've got Mendenhall, Jahvid Best, LeSean McCoy, Ronnie Brown & Ryan Torain. I'd be interested in Calvin Johnson, Reggie Wayne, Jacob Tamme, Hillis or Jamaal Charles.

Murph and Trac have our asses kicked in that league though.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I think I could have stayed undefeated, but I was in Ireland for the week and couldn't get to my teams to move any players around. I haven't had the chance to keep up with the blog much lately. Besides being out of town, my mother died the last week of October. I see Trac hasn't been posting and from what little bits I have seen, there seems to be a rift in the blogger family. I hope he comes back to posting, I like that guy and agree with many of his views.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

The rifts only seem to happen when people stop talking football and start talking religion and politics. 2 topics that turn into personal attacks very quickly it seems when people disagree. Everyone should stick to football. We are all on the same side with that.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Jeff, you need to give the special teams more credit.

They are 9th in KOR average with no TDs, but add in the lost TD from the phantom call vs Redskins and they'd be 3rd in average with 1 TD, led the way by Manning.

The FG/PAT block team has excelled as well -- 2 blocks in 8 games, thanks to Peppers and Idonije.

Maynard has been what he always has been: exceptional in plus territory, average between the 20 and 40, and poor from behind the 20. This season's horrific offense has just put the last category on display much more than usual. (He still is 2nd in league in pinning opponents inside-the-20.)

You're right to call out Gould's 2 misses and the OOB on kickoff. But I think it's something that will pass, not a new trend...

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Vikings 31 - bears 9 because the LUCKY fucking bears still can't score a freaking touchdown.
You have no running game, no passing game, you are however the luckiest team I've ever seen.
Hopefully Jared Allen will break your mediocre quarterback's fuckin neck.
And if he doesn't I know Clay Mathews is gonna-I can't wait for that ass beatin!

  • In reply to MrARodgers:

As I recall, the Bears already beat the Peckers once this year. Go back to Green Bay, ass.

  • In reply to MrARodgers:

God, we enjoyed beating you guys this year. Thanks for the memories, another Pack-smack ...

Yeah, we've currently got no running or passing game going and we still beat you. I love that shit.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I'm just going with this: Favre will be suspended by Sunday. Then we can just sit back and watch the Vikings fold right before our very eyes. It will be a beautiful thing to see.

  • I always liked that little shitbag as a player. Turns out he's a raging perv. Call that pulling a Chimura

  • He'll need that juke move. In the shower.

  • Not that you expect subjectivity from these guys, but yesterday I'm listening to pro-radio-dweeb Adam Schein pushing for Eli Manning for MVP. A caller dials up and asks Adam how he can possibly say Eli is MVP caliber - the guy has 11 picks, and more than a half dozen fumbles lost, in the first half of the season. His QB rating so far has only topped the 100 mark in two games (against the imploding Cowboys and Seahawks).
And Schein then proceeds blames the receivers - which is a complete 180 from his take on Cutler. When you talk about the Bears, it's Cutler, Cutler, Cutler, his decision-making sucks, etc.
East Coast media @-holes are pathetic.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

National media detests Chicago. It's a fact.

Maybe it's because the McCaskeys and Phillips are disrespected by everybody on the 85 Bears and real 'football' people, I don't know. But this team gets sand kicked in its face all the time at the national level.

Even Hub Arkish, who really ought to be a homer, has a feud with the McCaskeys and doesn't mind him or his brother spilling some secrets in Pro Football Weekly.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Hub had the nerve to tell the truth when he was part of the Bear broadcast crew so, of course, he summarily DUMPED.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Happy Veteran's Day to all the vets on the board. didn't realize how important this day was until my cousin died in Iraq almost 2 years ago; thanks for all that you do.
