Been thinking about it, reading the tea leaves, and logicalizing (new word) it... I honestly think Martz pulls his head out of his ass and calls the right game this week... because of the media pressure, job security pressure, or whatever. I think we finally play the complete game that has eluded us for 2 years and we use the creative short, and running, games to put out a consistent, solid effort. Specials and D play like they have been, but get the help from a scoring O that they need to be great.

    I don

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think improved play by the Bears O-line combined with Martz actually calling more than 20 run plays equals a Bears victory this Sunday. I'll stock up on Jim Beam since Forte will be running for Multiple TD's.

  • In reply to Church:

    Say it ain't so!

Todd Collins is listed as the #2 this week?

Once again, "Those who do not learn from history..."

    Sigh.

With that, here are my Week 9 "I hope I'm 0 for 3" Picks.

    Vikings -9 over the Cardinals:
The Cards have nothing at QB. NOTHING. I mean, how big a loser must Matt Leinert be if Ken Whisenhunt can't even say "Well, Leinert's better than NOTHING" and just CUTS the guy? Arizona is banged up at wide receiver and running back as well. I don't know how they SCORE 9, let alone not lose by at least that much. I just hope I'm not facing AP in my fantasy league this week.

    Packers -8 over the Cowboys.
So why not? Jerra Jones thinks his team is ALREADY 1 and 7. I call that a self-fulfilling prophecy and a clear sign from the football gods. 'Nuff said.

    Buffalo +2.5 over the Bears.
Sorry, but I am in full-blown, depressed, prove me wrong, this team has no business laying points against ANYBODY, PESSIMIST mode.

3 Weeks ago the Bears hit an ice berg and lost a game they should have won.

TWO weeks ago it looked like they responded to the collision with the 'berg by RE-ARRANGING THE DECK CHAIRS and lost ANOTHER game they should have won.

Now, apparently, their big BYE WEEK MOVE (aside from passing on Randy Moss)is to give us TODD COLLINS back at #2 !

    Say WHAT?!

    Schnicklefritz!

Pretend I'm from Missouri this week, Bears.
    SHOW ME!

  • In reply to Church:

Never mind Jimy Mac for HC of the Bears....

no way in hell GSH would've let that ride. that's beyond crazy

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Hate to disagree with you FQD but Halas wasn't much better. Butkus, Sayers, Ditka, to name three had serious issues with Halas and money. Butkus had to sue him because of injuries and non-payment. The team doctors said Butkus was fine to keep playing with serious injuries. Once he was no longer able to play because of these injuries Halas refused to pay him. Butkus sued him and was basically ostracized from the organization for years. Sayers history isn't much better and Ditka was shipped off because he was so upset about getting short changed by the old man.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Me thinks there's a big difference between "cheap" and "Not invested" Canada

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Canadabear speaks the truth, gang. Rememeber, someone, perhaps Ditka, once said of Halas: "he throws nickels around like they were manhole covers". Then there was that ridiculous incident with George Allen. Allen was defensive coordinator in '63(They were just called defensive COACH back in those days) and took the Head Coaching job with the Rams in '64 or '65. Halas sued him to hold him to his Chicago contract. Halas won the suit, then let Allen take the Rams job. The Old Man put Allen thru the grinder, just to make a point. Now, of course, you cannot prevent an assistant from taking a head coaching position like that.

Still "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

Bottom Line, and this is no "revalation" on THIS blog: The Chicago NFL franchise needs MODERN ownership.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

FQ........FU!@#$$!@#$ING McFU!@#$!%$SKY'S...this is why we never have any of the 85 as coaches...the will never admit that that team was one of the greatest because they all went up against Bears Management..F U MIKEY YOU ASSCLOWN!!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Is it game time yet?

  • In reply to Church:

I thought I heard Collins was number 2. Why? Anyone with any info on this?

I expect the Bears to win this game because the overall sense is that the fandom will not tolerate a loss here. And by "not tolerate" I mean a full scale outcry for everyone's heads - Phillips on down. The media would no longer be able to post stupid pieces about the line coming together and reason for optimism etc. nobody would buy it. In fact, I suspect a loss would bring about a call for someone (a McCaskey) to answer the obvious question - you brought everyone back expectign improvement - how's that working out for ya?

So how does that "make" the Bears win? Easy. The Defense already plays well because of who they are. Ditto ST. It's the offense - and I suspect Martz's ego will actualyl force him to run more because he won't risk three in a row pinned on him alone. In fact, if the riff between Martz and Tice is half of what I think it is, Martz out to be worried that he could be fired and Tice promoted after a Buffalo loss. Hence - he puts in more runs (20-25) and we get enough TOP and defense gets TO or two and we win by about 7.

And the McCaskey s smile and say "see-I told you this staff was good. We beat a good Buffalo team on their homw turf."

Except the game is in Toronto - but...

  • In reply to Church:

No way this management fires anyone mid-season. I would be SHOCKED Bill.

Agree on the rest. We always talk about 'must win' games, but this is the real deal. We lose this and it's a slippery slope to sub .500. This is the easiest 2nd half game we have on the books.

It's not even about the media or the fans. We lose this game like we've lost the last 3 (i.e., all the o's fault) and the D is going to start getting demoralized. Once that happens the only phase of this squad that's put us squarely in place to win every single game (

Read Chicago's (#28): "who will emerge as the next generation of coaches who stare helplessly out onto the field as games are collapsing, screw up their timeouts, blow road games against inferior teams, make indefensible play calls at the worst possible times, use their challenge flag like a 9-year-old trying to use a pair of nunchuks, and stare at the two-point conversion chart like it's written in Sanskrit?"

While totally and completely plausible, I just don't 'feel' it.

Too much preassure on everyone to not start this thing sliding into the toilet again... including management, coaches, and players. We lose this game and the total house-cleaning talk becomes a scream.

Al,MB& Bill...I think I get it..this is LDL's/Martzy's new coaching style! He has placed Collins second in line and is going to bench JC for Collins to start...hang on.. I'm getting to the beauty of it all..WOW!! LDL is a genius:

    1. So Collins goes in for the first half, gets sacked for a record ten times... (you know how LDL loves looking at himself on the Jumbotron)...
    2. Collins get's knocked out in the beggining of the third quarter, now that the Bills D is exhausted from running blitz's all over our great O-line.
    3. Bring in JC and watch him pass like a BEAST for over 450 yards and watch LDL & Martzy belly bump each other while they are looking up at the Jumbotron...either that or sword fighting...hehehehehehehehe..
    4. Post game conference he stands at the podium..smuge with a shirt that says: "I told you so"

This is what is actually going on in the little skull of LDL..

Seifert: "The value of a bye. It will be fascinating to see what the Chicago Bears come up with Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. The Bears have had two weeks to study their offensive problems, and it would be a case of gross negligence should no adjustments be obvious. Here's what quarterback Jay Cutler told Buffalo-area reporters: "We've tried getting rid of the ball quicker and quicker so it's something that we definitely went into detail about over the bye week and we think that we've got everything solved." He also said that the Bears' pass-protection problems at times have distracted him from reading defenses downfield. All of that needs to end. The Bears have to find a way to get Cutler functioning at a higher level immediately. They might be able to beat the Bills no matter how Cutler plays, but there aren't many other teams on their schedule you can say that about."

Let me put it to you this way boys... if there aren't really adjustments made on the field (not just to the media) and we lose this game, the season is done.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I feel very confident that you will see a creative and balanced gameplan for the rest of the year. Martz is smart enough to do it and we've shown that when we run the ball, throw the screen and make short and mid range passes on quick drops we are very effective.

If we don't do it we simply have to kill Martz somehow.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah, that's my thought Johnny... if it doesn't come this week he's a lost cause and we can pretty much pack it up.

Also, to add to GP's post above, if Childress fucks up one more time, I'm not convinced he makes it through the season: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/19078/report-childress-harvin-argue-at-practice

Say what you want about the asshat Vikings, at least their owner has a set of fucking balls and brains and knows when to cut bait on a POS that' destroying your team's chances for success.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

He's just as dumb as McCaskey (he did extend Chilly) except with a pair. He would cut Chilly loose and not worry about the money. McCaskey just hangs onto them until the almost bitter end.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Totally agree. If we win this game and go 4-4 in the second half (possible if we play well) that would get us to 9-7. That's nothing to shout about but might get us into the playoffs in a shitty conference. If we lose tomorrow, it's going to be a bad, bad thing.

That was like watching today's Michigan-Illinois game. It was free on ESPN3 today, streaming on the web.

That game was embarrassing to the sport of college football. It was worse than that, it was disgusting to the entire NCAA. Neither team should feel proud of that game. Michigan eventually won 67-65, but that was just disgusting all around.
