  • First? To say that we can still win this game. I hope....

    Collins just sharted.

  • Sac up D. We need points from you this week; like you used to do.

  • I guess we will see more of Chester Taylor this week.

Running game needs to be huge

  • I'm wondering if Collins will start and finish the game if we handle the panthers with him or if he will start and Jay will come in at some point in the game if we're behind and the O-line proves they can protect the QB enough for him to make a difference.

  • Jay is inactive Trac. Not dressing, maybe not travelling.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Oh well, I say use the Carolina game to establish our run game and to at least feature Forte and Taylor in the passing game. Could actually be a blessing in disguise.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    That was my thinking.

Let's not forget that Carolina will be starting a rookie qb and a bunch of rookie receivers.

The Bears need a strong performance from the defense and special teams...and limited fuck ups by the offense to win this one without Jay.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Living in South Carolina, I have had the abusive privilege of watching a few Panther games. I have to disagree with most of you that this is the game we need to establish the run. The only thing Carolina is good at is stopping the run. We may try it for a series or two, but no way Martz sticks with it. Our D needs to score. Wouldn't hurt to get a punt/kick return score either.

  • In reply to Church:

Caroline is currently ranked 19th on run Defense. No offense but I strongly disagree with that analysis wiggi.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

They are also ranked 16 on Pass Defense.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Then again, the Giants, Packers, Lions all have bad run D's. Ranked 22nd, 24th, 25th respectively. Cowboys are ranked 9th I think.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

On one hand, it's cool that this is happening and we could go to it and meet up with the legends of '85:

On the other hand, it's kinda sad that in 25 damn years, the '06 squad is the only thing that got close since.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    One word GP. MCDUMMIES.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That is cool Trac, I hope you are right. 19th is pretty good though when you consider our O line.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

This may be a blessing in disguise. If anything is going to get the Bears running game going it has to be a situation like this where there really is no other option. Hopefully the O line is fired up and actually blocks this weekend. I'm not a Collins hater but I doubt Martz will risk letting him heave it up more than 20% of the time. Then again the man is a gambler so who knows.

  • In reply to Dmband:

All I can say is Collins came to town and was placed in a pre-season game after arriving by plane the previous night.

He moved the team well in that game with the short passing game. Enough with the 4 wide spread offense this week. Pro-set and I, maybe some double TE sets since we got no FB.

Olsen seems to lead block into the hole better than manofmoolah, who has a very very slow first step. Maybe Kellen Davis can lead block or let Dez outta the doghouse, he was best at it.

Either way, we gotta try and run between the tackles despite having shit up front to set play action up.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I think we have to run the ball outside, not between the tackles. Forte needs space. If you are sold on running it up the gut, Taylor need 20 carries.

  • In reply to gpldan:

So, most of the "Blog Docs" were correct.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I agree he did look pretty good in pre-season; but looked stuck in cement last week. Hopefully, his experience shines through.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Yeah but I saw him throw a ball on his back foot against the Giants and it looked like an underhand lob. If our line can't give him a pocket then forget about it.

  • In reply to Crowned:

I still have the vivid picture of Collins looking like a rag doll when the Giant defender hit him from behind. Scary.

  • In reply to Crowned:

    BEARS BLOGGER FF LEAGUE UPDATE

Still undefeated: FQ/Cutlers Forte 4-0, Team Murph II 4-0, TRAC 3-0-1.

Our boys cost me a sure win and I ended up with a tie last week.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Im catching up

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

JEFF, I totally disagree with the picture you chosed for this thread. I hope i dont ever see that kind of blashpemy again.
    sincerely, Fresno

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

This is going to be me on sunday, screaming at the T.V. "Why can't they run the ball? Why doesn't Omlette get a push?! Kreutz, I love you, but run someone over for the love of god! Can a Tight-End on our team plllleaase block someone!?" etc etc...

Bottom line: Our O-line get's pushed around by opposing Dlines, Period.

We'll run the ball (ineffectively), with a whole lot more of Taylor, but it's only gonna be a smoke screen to ward off the pass rush.

I predict a lot more draws, screens, slants and west-coast offensive short quick passes, which plays to Collin's strength. And I don't think he'll get sacked as much as ppl may think - Manning is immobile, but he makes quick decisions and gets rid of the ball - so does Collins (granted, he's no Manning lol).

Collins is starting over Hanie for various reasons: 1) Martz lobbied HARD for a veteran backup (no doubt cuz he knows how complicated his O is to learn for a backup with little reps) 2)Since Hanie's injury, he has had even less reps in the system. 3) Hanie performed well in pre-season, basically off the street.

My only contention is: WHY OH WHY, DO WE ANNOUNCE IT SO EARLY IN THE WEEK TO GIVE THE PANTHERS TIME TO PREPARE FOR IT?

Did they have to announce it due to some rule or something? couldn't it have been a game time decision so that the Panthers are in the dark as to who's gonna start? Everyone knows that Cutler's arm stretches Ds, while Collins will hit the short yardage, so if we kept the Panthers in the dark, they would've propped a diff game plan. At the very least, not telling them who's gonna start would make them prepare for two diff styles of qbs...BONEHEADS...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Maybe Cutler starts at the last minute. They're not obliged to start Collins are they? I haven't read anything today yet. Get them game-planning for Collins and then throw Cutler at them.

Again. Wally played thirteen years and missed one game. If he can walk and talk, Cutler should play. This is football. We lose if he doesn't play, it's that simple. Losing to the Panthers does not bode well for the season.

Partial thread hijack. Changing the Jay is Out Thread to the Brett Farve In and Out and In and Out Thread:

This is totally NSFW, but everyone here should watch this, it's hilarious:

  • In reply to gpldan:

Don't click on this link unless your ok with looking at Brett Fav rah's wang

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Jeez, coach, way to ruin the surprise. Who wouldn't want to see the Brettster's wang? Er ... Uh ... never mind!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Can't pass, can't run. Can't stop the pass, can't stop the run. 3-2.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Great decision. I would def. rest Jay. Collins can be okay if they utilize him right. Short passes is his main game. I still say we run the ball atleast 30 times this game, Martz just has to be patient.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Why not Hanie? Collins had nothing on his throws and is immobile. Hanie threw some lasers and can move around the pocket.

  • In reply to zmac:

the coaches probably sees something we dont. or just stubborn.

  • In reply to zmac:

"Collins had nothing on his throws and is immobile".

But other than that, we're set.

  • In reply to zmac:

I guess zero NFL experience isn't what they want to go with ?

  • Collins is starting!!? WTH!! Start Hanie!
