  • 1st!!!

  • Or Wang Poon. My bad.

  • I was going to say that I was happy losing my 3-0 to the Pack crashing and burning last week and that I was going to avoid them this week but that has been taken care of for me. Wonder why the exclusion. Maybe in the show the answer lies.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Oh, never mind. Give the Reverend 20 minutes. I'd check it out.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Jeff are you rubbing your nipples in that pic?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

As long as he's not wearing Crocs, we're all OK.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

This is the week where we start seeing some separation in Da Bears Blog league standings.
The Eastern Division is far and away the strongest of the two, having four of the five top scoring teams in the league. However, the Western Division is by far repping the Bears:
    Doc has the Bears D
    I have Forte, Cutler, Knox
and Nagurski Bronkos are, god forbid, stashing Olsen on their bench.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    Hee hee... gross.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Oh my!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    BEARS -7

  • In reply to FQD1911:

1 of the Q&A's from Dan Pompei's mailbag.

"In addition to car salesman, garbage collectors, machine operators and firemen, isn't Logan Mankins still out there?" David Raymond, Clermont, Fla

"Yes he is, and he probably can be yours for maybe second- and third-round draft picks and maybe $40 million (he reportedly turned down a five year contract with a $7 million per year average). The Bears, for one, are not likely to be enthusiastic about parting with either the draft picks or the money. Nor should they be. When was the last time a guard was responsible for winning a championship? And when was the last time a guard who was acquired in October even made a significant impact? The Bears need future draft picks and financial flexibility more than they need Mankins. Now if there were a Pro Bowl offensive tackle available, I would have to think a little harder about that one".

    http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-pompei-mailbag-oct15,0,5197288.column

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

I get his pov I guess, although I would say that unequivocally that while "A" guard hasn't won any championships for anyone... a solid oline with solid individuals at each position most certainly has. In fact, that's probably been a factor in every championship.

The basic truth is that as long as you have the skilled positions filled well, and we certainly do barring a real FB and a big nasty WR

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Even if we gave them Butter and a 3rd rounder, Ginny needs to come up with 30-40M that she probably doesn't have.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I'm guessing if you throw in Tommie you'd have to go higher on the draft pick, not lower.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    ouch.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

With you all the way MB. I'm not sure what it will take to get JA fired at this point. His draft record is abysmal and somehow he manages to escape most of the blame. Lovie isn't exactly great at his job but he's leaps and bounds better at his than JA.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Somebody should tell Deion that he should be happy to be on the list.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Deion-Sanders-is-unhappy-about-his-ranking-in-N;_ylt=AmURmRIdF.nKypn0lcQwM9N9t7l_?urn=nfl-277257

Teams would run at his side of the field, because everybody in the NFL knew he was a ballerina who hated to tackle. How you can be considered an all time great corner when you won't step up and stuff the run? What a head case

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Mankins is only 28 years old. 40 mil is too much though. he would look good in the blue and orange.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Chargers locked up McNeil for 28m . I believe 1/2 of that is guaranteed.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Ravens +3. I really enjoy it when Bill Belicheat loses.

Titans -3. Not sure the Jags have an answer for Mr. Johnson.

Colts -3. Can Peyton Manning be held in check 2 weeks in a row?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I didn't think the Jags had an answer for Satan Manning 2 weeks ago. Love the logic, fails in practice.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Colts can't stop the run and have 43 years of losing in D.C. to overcome.

    Other stop-related thoughts :

Can J'Marcus Webb stop Chris Clemons? Don't think so.

Can our DTs stop Marshawn Lynch up the middle? Don't think so.

Can Jay stop throwing the ball to Earl Thomas?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Chris Clemons? who the fuck is Chris Clemons?

Is Marshawn Lynch named Brandon Jacobs or Ahmad Bradshaw? if not the answer is yes, the Bears will fuck him up.

Earl Thomas will be a non factor. It's the other DB's that are fucked.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Evidently Chris Clemons is a defensive end in the NFL, which by definition means our O-line probably cant stop him

  • In reply to reprisal:

Yup, the DE not the sax player (clarence?). Looks way too fast for a big guy like Webb ... he'll run around him lickety split.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

My man Earl - who I dreamed/hoped the Bears would trade up for last year - has three picks in the last two games, and we know Cutty likes to force them in there.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

i think Irish should be fined by the blog for insinuating that Lynch will somehow run roughshot over our defense.

Irish, if you weren't Irish, I would kick your dirty Mick ass. Don't worry, i'm not racist. I'm a dirty mick myself so i can call Irish a dirty mick. Like that Seinfeld episode.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

That was fucking hilarious. I just actually lol-ed.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Wait... can you call a 'real' irish guy a mick? Or does is just relate to americans of irish decent?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Jeff, I hate to tell you this but a tie counts as a loss against the point spread. There are NO ties.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

That's actually not true, Trac. It all depends on who is setting the lines. Most bookies will only take the vig on a tie.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    I stand corrected Jeff.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    +1 for Mayor Blogfather.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Oh yeah, well I guess that makes me a White Honky Crakka European African Australian American. Wow, what a mouthful.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Sirens wail, Fist pounds on door and bullhorn-amplified voice speaks: "Attention, Johnny Waffle! This is the THOUGHT POLICE! We have a warrant for your arrest! The charge is 'Felonious Political Incorrectness and Having a Sense of Humor'. Put your jokes down and come out with your brains up!"

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Seinfeld: "He CONVERTED for JOKES!"

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Nah, just up the middle for the hard yards - if he gets his start this soon. Tommie gets pushed around a lot. And you're *all* Irish somewhere ladies. Even Muhammad Ali has some paddy in him.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

None of us thought the Bears would be 4-1 at this stage in the game either.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    I'm going 3C this time.

    Colts
    Chargers
    Cowboys

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    Oooh.

    The "Alliteration picks"!

    Classy.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Eagles
    Jets
    Colts

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Arkansas (my alma mater)-Auburn:

14:00 into the 4th, Greg Childs (WR) - 133 yds. 2 TDs. ANGELO LISTEN THE FUCK UP!!!!! HE'S NOT GOING TO BE DRAFTED HIGHER THAN A.J. GREEN, BUT DO NOT LET HIM GO INTO THE 2ND ROUND!!!! IF HE'S ON THE BOARD, YOU DRAFT HIS ASS!!!! LINEMAN CAN BE GOT IN THE 2ND & 3RD ROUND, BUT NOT A BIG WR THREAT AS GREG CHILDS!!!!

o and he's not 6'0, he's 6'3'', 217 lbs, a non head case, and room to grow. WHY ARE YOU STILL READING!?!?!?! WORK HIM OUT NOW!!!!!

  • In reply to FQD1911:

You got that right FQ. Childs is a man among boys in College. Just hope that transfers to the NFL. Childs is one of the reasons Mallet has such good numbers. I'm starting to think Mallet has a big arm and that's about it. Can't put my finger on it but I don't think he's smart enough to read NFL defenses properly.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I believe Mallette got hammered today, no?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yup. Just saw the replay. Ouch.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Titans
    Jets
    Raiders

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Top of my list, 6'4/6'5 WR, smart guy, 235lbs+

  • In reply to FQD1911:

You guys see any other big college receivers that look tasty enough to draft?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Saints picked up Julius Jones who Seattle cut after they got Lynch.

    http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2010-10-12/ailing-saints-add-julius-jones-to-backfield

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Non story because as soon as Thomas and Bush get healthy its bye bys Julius.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Thomas' little bro'!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Cowboys +1.5
    colts -3
    titans -3

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I have BOTh Thoamd and Bush on my fnatasy tea. So much for the concept of "handcuffing" them against the threat of injury!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And Chicago voted Best Sports Town 2010 by Sporting News.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    They finally go something RIGHT!

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Game day thread any minute.. The only thread all week that I don't read every post. Just curious, is it worth following? Or is it just a delayed commentary, like when I cant pirate the video and I am stuck listening to the Bears Radio Network?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    S.D. -8 1/2
    Bears -7
    Pitt -13 1/2

    GO BEARS!!!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Pittsburgh - Colt McCoy's first start, also Rape-lisberger's
Bears - BECAUSE WE ARE WHO WE THINK WE ARE
Texans - They can't kick my ass 2 weeks in a row can they?

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

I steered clear of them this week for that reason. The Bastards!

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

I honestly do not know what the fuck the problem with the Texans is. i know AJ had a bum ankle, but really - that's the whole reason?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Why all the love for the Texans GP?

  • In reply to gpldan:

does anyone else love the fact that the Packers have to risk Rodgers this week just coming off of a concussion because a loss would spell disaster for their playoff chances? i fucking do.

Fuck off Packers trolls. Where is your bravado now? Now you get a taste of what injuries do to a team. Ask the 09 Bears defense. You are fucked.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Pre-frakkin-cisely waffle. They know that if they sit Rodgers like they're supposed to (where are the independent docs now?), then Miami kicks their ass and we go two up on them.

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

    Bears
    Colts
    Texans

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

    DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Coach: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/rock-report/assets_c/2010/10/mike-ditka-thumb-300x199-243089.jpg

why do all hese guys have to be 'whacky'?

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/chicago-bears/09000d5d81b541ea/Weather-update-Seahawks-vs-Bears

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

    Bears Saints 49ers

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

So what I think we'll do is give the gift card to the champion of the picks regular season. The top five in the picks will go fantasy playoffs for the off-season column. Unless you guys want to put the winner of your fantasy league into the playoffs too. I'd be cool with that.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

We have three fantasy leagues Jeff.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I have three teams so it wouldn't be fair because I know some blogger's only have 1.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

here's some fun reading, although he lost a lot of credibility with me when he penned $7: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/john_lopez/10/15/week6.storylines/index.html

FIVE concussions?!?!?! Shit. Didn't know that - that's not good at all.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That was hilarious - Sanders is running his mouth off and then they put up a comparison of his and Woodson's stats.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

even our media retards who are aching for Cutler to fail admitted that his answer of "none" to the number of concussions he's had was a reflex answer and that Cutler has a history of shaking off and downplaying all of the injuries he's had dating back to college. he didn't answer none because he forgot that he had them. that writer is a fucking nerd for even writing that.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    damn it.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm telling you, he's bumming Philips. Angelo is Teflon.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Makes you wonder. If you look at his entire draft history with the Bears it's mind boggling. There are a few good picks, some bad luck, some avg picks and mostly terrible picks.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Like Mankins, waaay to expensive, unless of course, we can siphon some of C.Williams mula over to Mankins bank account lol

Dumbrowski is being moved to RT in SD, MD. I was thinking the same, so wandered over to their site and it said that McNeil will start at LT, while Dumbrowski will "compete" against Clarey for the RT job - in other words, he'll win it, and we can get their left over RT for what ever crazy demands A.J. Smith wants.

Chargers maybe arrogant and stubborn, but they're not Dumb-rowski...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Roy giving some of his keys to victory and mentions something about new tests for concussions done by the military maybe coming to the NFL very soon.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Those are Mugs to be proud of boys.
    Bears
    Titans
    Jets

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    ravens over pats
    Falcons over eagles
    Jets over broncos

  • In reply to MB30SD:

End, the pre and post comments are best. And although the stuff in the middle is 60% people screaming "YESSSS!!!" or "FUUUUUUCK!!!!!!", as usual there are some gems in there.

85B, just read up a bit. Yeah, I'd take clarry too man. He might not be A+ material, but the fucking guy is a house and he

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Bears
    Lions
    Rams

I'm stickin with all mammals until I get one right.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Bucs +4.5
    Skins +3
    Chiefs +4.5

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Bears
    Cowboys
    Raiders

why can't I pick against the pack this week dammit? I mean, picking against the Vikes is alright, but I really really enjoy picking against the fudge packers.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    STEELERS -13.5 Browns
    Cowboys +1.5 VIKINGS
    Colts -3 REDSKINS

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Titans -3
    Lions +10
    Falcons +3

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

i need Adams,Harrison, Melton, Big Toe, Pep and Izzy/Wooten to step the fuck up this week and cover for our boy Lance. Don't let them run and make Hasslbeck feel the fucking heat. We need a sack/fumble and a qb hit that results in an INT. Why did i have a dream that Charles Grant was in the game?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Two words, Waffle - Squirrel. Beer.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    +1 MBP, +1

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Because he's going to get handed the ball on a draw play and run for another 90 yard TD knocking Seahags out of the way like tenpins ..

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    Chargers, Raiders, Titans

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    Why no Miami ?

    Bears
    Texans
    Raiders

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

b/c it's probably a sure win (Clay Matthews is OUT & Rodgers the non-dodger is playing w/ his bell loose). 3 game lead on them WHEN they lose, but we need to take care of business.

    #BearDown

  • In reply to FQD1911:

If that were the case wouldnt the Steelers vs Colt McCoy be off the table?

  • In reply to reprisal:

That's a big spread. Could be a running game for both sides (rusty rapist) so the scores might be fairly close.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Are you sure? Just because she kept saying no and was totally hammered ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

It is, I tried to talk myself out of it I just dont see it tho. 14-0 would be good enough and the D might manage that alone. Hillis and Cribbs might make it interesting, but they've both been banged up lately. "Betting" one way, rooting the other.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Steelers -13.5
    Titans -3
    Raiders +6.5

  • no purpose. just another sign of the absurdity of our culture that is heading into the shitter. just fodder for the ADD/ADHD generation.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

We have no culture Johnny, just football. Ooooohraaaah,

  • i'm watching NFL network's Top 100 players. They are on #35 on the list Chuck "Concrete Charlie" Bednarik. What a badass. Of the 15 or so tackles they showed of his, 9 would have been major penalties and offenses requiring fines in todays game. Clotheslines, horsecollars, facemasks, elbow drops, etc. That was truly entertaining to watch. The last of the 60 minute men.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I'm watching Fear Factor, it's great. Couples eating roaches. Hilarious.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Loved it when that show found an excuse to put the ladies in the water.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I'm watching Oregon State at Washington. They just went into O.T.

    College Football.

How can they get the pass interference rule so right and overtime so wrong?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

IM SO FUCKIN READY FOR TOMORROW. Long work week and i just wanna watch my bears.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    +1
Bring it on. A ridiculous offensive explosion is just what the doctor ordered to top us up for the week.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Barnett officially done for the season.

    http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/10/15/lb-nick-barnett-out-for-season-in-another-blow-to-the-packers/

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Which everyone on the PLANET knew a week ago, ecept Brain Surgeon, Mike McCarthy.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Chuck Bednarik. "Badass" doesn't even is an understatement, Johnny (Weren't you arrested a few posts ago? You must have made bail, eh?) WW II Vet. The day he KO'd Gifford, some Giant teammates thought Chuck had KILLED Frank. No WAY he's as low as #35 on the list.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    More Bednarek. From Wiki...
"...served as a B-24 waist-gunner with the Eighth Air Force. He flew on thirty combat missions over Germany and was highly decorated."

After having people shoot large, explosive projectiles at you, at altitudes requiring an oxygen mask and heated flight suits in an unpressurized cabin, in an aircraft that was nicknamed "The Flying Gas Tank", I suspect playing in the NFL was a like a walk in the park.

He's 90 and bet he could STILL hurt you!

  • you know what spawned this? people have fallen so in love with the NFL that they don't know what to do the five days a week the games aren't on so they make up things to do.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    that too

  • In reply to hollywood1:

i fill my 5 days with a job but if i could i would sit on the radio or on tv and just talk football all day. It can't be that hard, they let that complete moron Rosenbloom do it in Chicago. What a hack.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    +1, again, Mayor Blogfather.

  • My theory is that because every single player is given a categorical ranking based on historical data and projections, they can "play out a game" based on how the ranked players perform and using a coach's tendencies and consider it another statistical simulation. A way to predict a game mathematically as well as visually. The problem lies in the fact that the rankings cannot possibly account for the unexpected which happens each year in the NFL.

  • yea ESPN did that madden simulation shit when The Bears played the Cowboys. Madden had the cowboys beating us in a blowout i think. Like Jeff said, they just something to do for the five days.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

That's right up there with the bogus computer models on "Global Warming", er, "Global Climate Change".

  • You KNOW you're in deep doo-doo when "Sick call" takes longer than "Roll call".
