  • Hey Boys -

Theatre calls. I'm going to be out of the loop for the next 48 hours, unless something newsworthy happens. Enjoy this week's show and how about we don't suck at picking this week, kids.

    Bear down.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

I'm making my picks ... and then reversing them.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

if the home team would've played like it gave a fuck, would've won. smh don't start that shit Jeff lol

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

Hey now... I had 2/3. My only incorrect pick was a tie because the damn Colts couldn't win by more than 3.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

If you were gonna use "Old Blue Eyes" in the Saturday show, Mayor Blogfather, I think the most approriate song, as a Bears' fan, would be this one

OK, Mike Martz, WHAT have we been saying for WEEKS now...

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yup, I read that article, shaking my head. Cliffnotes version. Shanahan moved Cutler out of the pocket 12% of the time; Cutler's qb rating outside of the pocket is 114.1 compared to 83.3 in it; Cutler sacked 1 every 57 dropbacks with Shanahan. With Bears? 1 out of every 7 dropbacks! (and that's not even counting pressures or hits).

Drawback? Rolling out limits qb to half the field.

Positives...I refer you back to the number 114.1. I think Shanahan understood that Cutler's decision making wasn't great, and that if he had fewer options, it might make life easier for him. Enter Mike Martz...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

McNabb has a rating of 104 in the first half and about 64 in the second this season. Go figure.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

    Since about pre-season last year!

  • I'll try for my first pick - Bears
    second - Panthers
    third - Browns

  • Saints, Ravens, Steelers.

    49ers -3 PANTHERS

  • In reply to tobijohn:

Dude, you need to pick *one* team in each matchup.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Why? This way my odds of going 3-0 are better. I'm tired of getting two out of three right every week...

The first team of each pairing are my picks:

    Steelers
    Titans
    49ers

  • In reply to tobijohn:

The two-chancer approach. I like it.

  • In reply to gpldan:

They better win, for once I don't have to go to the bar to see it. Lions have a bye week (bye is favored by a touchdown, yeah I know you've heard it before).

  • In reply to gpldan:

    LMFAO. Word, GPL, word.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Everybody Wang Poon tonight.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Why does Our management love to ignore the fact that we need a #1 WR. WHY? idk why. Instead of picking up Manumalua and Taylor, they should of got a WR. Oh wait we Aromashodu who has the potential right? but they wont play him! I swear these fucking guys right here. Minnesota realized it needed a WR and what they do? they got MOSS THE BOSS!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Yes, but they got Randy Moss.
They would've been much better served by resigning C-Taylor in preseason.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

It must have been days since I mentioned Brandon Marshall ...

  • In reply to gpldan:

Man I don't know Irish. I got 3 right one week and they were all "R" teams. So I said fuck it, I can't get 3 using my head so I'll do some crazy shit. I just looked that up Irish, and it's a 6'6 guard named Bruce Cambell. I'm figuring whoever it is, he's better than Todd Collins

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Shit, well the Raiders certainly worked out okay anyway !!!

  • In reply to Crowned:

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

You like that Tice is trying to get our QB killed. That article claims the Bears are on pace to break the Bears sacks allowed all time record. Hmmm. From what I see, the line was better last year.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Trac, you really think I like that part or promote Tice to let our qb get sack more ?

To build confidence in right guard Edwin Williams and right tackle J'Marcus Webb, Tice wrote at the bottom of their written tests words he wants his offensive linemen to live by: "Believe you know, because you do.''

He knows the talent is there. He just needs them to realize it and perform up to it..

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Wishful thinking doesn't get it done in the NFL 85. You either do what you are supposed to or you don't. I can understand 1 or 2 project players, but 4 or 5?(cause that's what the whole line is right now, a project). The O-line is horrible. Fact. Tice is the O-line coach, fact. Tice was hired early enough to tell the powers at be that we needed help and he didn't. He basically said we're all set when he was asked about it right after the draft. I just thought the statement you made about liking what Tice is TRYING to do just doesn't make sense at this point in time. If this was July or August maybe, but it's not, it's October. The clock is running out. The Seahawks got 6 sacks and a safety against us. I can't believe we allowed the middle of the road Skankhawks to steal that kind of Glory from us. This team has verrry serious problems 85. I'm just calling it like it is. I'm dumbfounded that the Bears organization is so inept at accurately assessing our weaknesses during the offseason. I was one of the guys poo pooing going after Faneca. I was wrong. We should have signed him and gone after Flozell Adams cause both of them are better than anything we have.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    +1
We have a handful of weeks-worth experience on the right hand side of the line. On the left we have a tackle at guard and an egg-based dish at tackle. In the middle is old man Methuselah. I think Faneca was going for $2.5 million. How will this line deal with a redskins line that has no down linemen - if they go with that look again?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The Psycho look was not particularly useful vs the Fudgers. And it doesn't sound as if they've been particularly at causing confusion with that look versus the traditional fire zone blitz. If you're rushing the same four guys and they ain't got a hand on the ground, you're only shooting yourself in the...uh, foot.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

When you have a halfway decent line 85, even an undrafted QB can win a game.

    http://www.thenewstribune.com/2010/10/11/1377395/cardinals-rise-to-top-in-west.html?storylink=rss

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

The night sky is always darkest before the dawn.

You never give up, not when you still have a chance. Hell, I thought we were going to be 5-11 and we have the best record in our division.

You can give up hope now, I won't. Sorry if that is naive.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Oh I do have my faith 85. The Bears are nothing more than a welcome distraction from life. Doesn't mean I'm deaf dumb and stupid.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

The line sucks. I know. I was preaching it last week at the end of the game. We can win games if we give Jay time and not let him get sack 5 or more times a game.

I am just saying that Tice is doing all he can with what he has and knows that there is talent. It just needs time.

Faneca is old and so is Adams. I think we would be here complaining about how we are not giving the young guys a chance. I rather hope and see some young guy become something than the old guy not doing what he should know.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    Steelers - 3
    Ravens - 13
    Bears -3

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    9er's
    falcons

  • Injury report
Cornerback Zack Bowman (foot) and guard Roberto Garza (knee) did not practice Thursday while Briggs (ankle), Urlacher (groin) and safeties Chris Harris (knee), Manning (back) and Major Wright participated on a limited basis.

For the Redskins, tight end Chris Cooley (concussion) was limited for the second consecutive day.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Actually, the skins are a bit more banged up. According to the Bear's site:

For the Redskins, running back Clinton Portis (groin) is out; and eight others are questionable: tight end Chris Cooley (head), cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall (back) and Carlos Rogers (shoulder), safety LaRon Landry (Achilles), linebacker Rocky McIntosh (head), fullback Mike Sellers (heel), running back Chad Simpson (hamstring) and tackle Trent Williams (knee/toe).

If LaRon Landry, who has been playing like a man possessed (63 tackles! 63 tackles! does he realize it's only week 5?) and Rodgers sit out, we should be able to air it out against an already porous D...that is of course, if Cutler doesn't get murdered in mid throw.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

On the bad side, it seems like Briggs and Bowman aren't gonna play, which means Iwuh better man up against "The Train" and our pass rush better get some pressure to help out our thinned out secondary.

On that note, I read some really good things about rookie DE Barry "the after burner" Turner...but I'm not drinking the cool-aid yet.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

where the hell did you get the "Briggs won't play" shit from? he's questionable, so more than likely he'll be in

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I said it SEEMS like Briggs and Bowman won't play, read what I write next time. They're officially "questionable" according to the almost always overly optimistic official website, which is one step away from "doubtful" which almost always means "out". Questionable is usually about 50/50 and comes down to game time decision - and given the fact that it's a high ankle sprain, which are always tricky, and next week is our bye, it SEEMS like Briggs won't play. He's always been a gamer, but...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

you really don't want to get in a smart-ass contest w/ me bro, so you need to chill your ass out. but, apologies for not seeing that.

o and can the football "education" shit.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Briggs is questionable, but he's a Sunday player. My gut tells me he plays.

  • In reply to Crowned:

exactly. he was in the pressers talking as if he was playing Sunday. they even asked him what did he learn about last week's game: "don't get hurt anymore." big game by Briggsy this Sunday.

  • In reply to Crowned:

    pats +3
    49ers -3
    Raiders +6.5

  • In reply to Crowned:

I'm in no way connected to Rutgers or anything else, but I'm going to send Eric's fund a $100. Just thought I'd post it here in case anyone else wanted to do something for the guy: http://www.scarletknights.com/believe/

    Talk to you lads tomorrow.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It's stores like this that make me have no problem going back to leather helmets and no face masks MB. I played rugby and from my perspective, it wouldn't take away from the players abilities on the field and would eliminate untold amounts of injuries. I cast my vote today, NO HELMETS AND FACE GUARDS.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

so you're saying that you'd rather see someones head actually cave in? if one more person compares football to rugby i am going to vomit.

They are completely different in their dynamic. can we stop with the no helmet and face guard shit? please? pretty please?

they didn't have faceguards back in the day because they didn't know how to fucking invent them yet. that didn't stop them from stomping each other's heads on the ground, punching....uh sorry...stiff arming...uh sorry...clothelining...uh sorry...trying to fucking decapitate each other. yeah, that's the ticket.

the faceguard and updated helmets were produced because the technology came around that allowed them to not wear fucking Knights helmets on the field. it's called plastic. oh my god.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The Ravens just activated him and Reed MB.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Owens, Cutler and Bush don't belong on that list. Cutler? All they do is rag on him, how is he over-rated? Where's Peyton? He gets talked about a *lot* more than the guy that won four superbowls and had a nut sack.

I, like every other bear's fan, would love for Briggs to play. But like I said, questionable is 50/50 - Wright is in exactly the same spot - "questionable" with "limited practice", and it seems like he's not playing, but Brigg still might. And I can say whatever the hell I want to.

  • 3.) Will the NFL's first "vicious hits" suspensions be on the entire Bears offensive line? Seriously, what the Bears O-line is allowing to happen to Jay Cutler is unfair, to say nothing of cruel and vicious. Cutler has been sacked a league-leading 23 times. The Bears are about to say hello to Brian Orakpo and a good Redskins pass rush. Will things get even uglier for the line and offensive coordinator Mike Martz?
