  • But it ain't Saturday yet!

  • In reply to Mastodon:

    It is here!

  • It stays up for the entire day tomorrow. No reason to keep it in the holster.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    To which I say, "Good"!

  • Bengals -3
    Pats -1
    Jets -5

  • I think I heard the first brother twice...

  • Bears +4 over Tinys
    Lions +14.5 over Slackers
    Eagles -6 over Foreskins

  • What a pain it must be to admin this contest.

  • In reply to gpldan:

You'd be surprised how easy it is.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Jeff nobody won last week?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Easy buddy, I notched a win. Couple other people did too.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Easy buddy, I notched a win. A couple of others did too.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

So good he called it twice ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Yeah weird. I got a whole page of errors on that 1st one.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Sometimes I get that too, Z and I find if I hit "refresh", my post did go thru.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Thanks. It didn't trick me this time.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

dammit i missed this last week. gonna have to go ahead and make it happen later on

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I thought going 3-0 three times this season would be a piece of cake... I am beginning to wonder

  • In reply to Church:

It's 5 times to qualify for the playoffs and it will be challenging.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

oh, thought it was three times, my bad!

  • In reply to Church:

    Bears +4
    Lions +14.5
    Eagles +6

  • In reply to logikal77:

    logikal pulling a Tauscher:

    False start - 5yd penalty - replay 1st post.

  • In reply to logikal77:

The Saturday Show getting better each week - keep up the good work boys.

  • In reply to Shady:

+1 (and whoever played that "Waiting for Tonight" track last week? lmao kill yoself)

  • In reply to Church:

    scratch that..new at this.

    Bears +4
    Lions +14.5
    Redskins +6

  • In reply to Church:

So I'm betting that NY, GB and the Eagles don't cover their spread. Correct??

  • In reply to logikal77:

You're picking two teams in the same game by the way ... you don't want want the first bet (and the Eagles are -6).

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Actually I'm picking the Redskins to win. The first post I messed up.

I want to bet the Bears beat the Giants. Greenbay doesn't beat the Lions by 14.5 and the Redskins beat the Eagles. I think McNabb is due for a big game.

    Bears +4
    Lions +14.5
    Redskins +6

    Correct??

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

This week I'm changing my strategy to picking against the teams I hate as opposed to pretending I know what I'm doing.

    Browns
    Lions
    Dolphins

  • In reply to logikal77:

    Yep

  • In reply to logikal77:

Bears starting left guard Roberto Garza returned to practice Friday (knee) and is listed as probable for Sunday night's matchup against the New York Giants.

Chris Harris (neck) and Israel Idonije (foot) are also probable.

Left tackle Chris Williams and safety Major Wright were the only two players sidelined. Both are out for Sunday night's game in New York.

  • In reply to logikal77:

    Bears +4
    Colts -7.5
    Texans -3.5

  • In reply to logikal77:

"I want to get a punt return against them," Hester said. "I want to get at least a punt return run against every team in the NFL. That's my goal."

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Hester's got his swag back mang

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Yeah man. Anybody else saying that would be ludicrously laughable... but you can almost believe that Hester could actually do it. I love the attitude.

  • In reply to logikal77:

    Bears
    Bengals
    Jets

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

And nice picks to Chris. That was exactly what I wanted.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

What's the logic behind not being able to duplicate the picks?

Is it just to get us to listen to the podcast? haha

  • In reply to Shady:

That and to steal my glory. I thought the brothers couldn't take the same team? I'm cool. Cleveland didn't get that much better. If Cincinnati can't win by 4 they better chill on all that playoffs again talk.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Oh and Chris, your Jets WILL get steamrolled by the Bears twice this year. Yes, I am calling a Bear/Jets Super Bowl. Crazy you say? Pray tell.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    Ravens
    Rams
    Redskins

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Good morning Murph, where have you been?

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Bears +4
    Bengals -3
    Patriots -1

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Chicago +4
    Indy -7.5
    San Diego -8

Interesting Note. San Diego is actually German for Whale's Vagina.

  • In reply to jmcyclone:

That's funny, I always though whale's vagina in German was pronounced: Hasselhoff.

  • In reply to Shady:

    ha!

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Bears +4 on Giants
    Jets -5 on Bills
    Steelers -1.5 on Ravens

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    1) who the hell is doing the soundtrack? is this easy listening R us? lol
    2) the "Reverend" is the shit. keep his ass on
    3) if there is anyway i win this shit, i'm going on a SERIOUS rant (it's 5 perfects right?)

  • In reply to FQD1911:

5 perfects gets you to the playoffs

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    And +1 about the Reverend

And +1 about The Boss. I heard he was broke and homeless when that song hit and he didn't even know that it was kicking ass for a minute. Maybe a myth. Born to run baby.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

You good Murph? Was wondering about you.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Hey guys, nice to be missed. My Mom has been in the hospital for most of the time since the end of July. When she is home, all my time pretty much goes to taking her to Dr., Chemo, therapies. So I have been reading you guys and keeping up the best I can. Seems kind of hard to come up with anything decent to post. All my thoughts coming up lame. I was on a bike ride this week, did the Mississippi river all through Illinois. so I am trying to catch up on old posts, and cheering on Da Team. Stopped in Burlington Iowa at the Catfish Bend Casino to watch the game Monday. Gentlemen, Iowa is full of rabid Bear fans.So I am keeping up with your posts as best I can, and once again its nice to be missed.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Nothing I like to see more than a Son taking care of his parents or a Father taking care of his Kids. My prayers are with you Murph. God Bless you Brother.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I'm really becoming quite sure that Tom Waddle is a moron. Just heard him say on the NFL Network that Julius Peppers is doing it all himself and that the rest of the Defensive Line has not shown up at all in 3 games. Does this guy really believe the crap he says?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    +1

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

If there is some way that my thoughts can give you strength, Murph, know it is offered. I've done the caregiver thing (wife) and it is a hard, hard road. Much harder than any bike ride; hopefully the time with you, your body, and your bicycle helped you rejuvenate..

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Bengals -3
    Raiders +3.5
    Panthers +13.5

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    For what it's worth...

the NFL Network's Sterling Sharpe, Joe Theismann and Brian Baldinger ALL picked the Bears to win this week on NFC Playbook.

I'm not sure that's necessarily GOOD news though.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Crap. Chalk it down to the Giants.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    Chargers -8
    Falcons -6.5
    Rams +1

Great show. Eclectic music choices. Walkin on Broken Glass though?

  • In reply to Crowned:

Not that eclectic actually, stuck in the 80s ha?

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

FQ-what's your record so far? Thnk we're tied. I'm 7 for 9 and 1 perfect week. Should have had two perfects, but Pitt beat me in OT first week.

  • In reply to Crowned:

1 perfect so far (missed it last week). so i think i'm like 4-6 or something like that

  • In reply to Crowned:

missed last week, but i have 1 perfect. so probably 4-5

  • In reply to FQD1911:

scratch that (damn i can't add). about 5-7

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I've heard Reverend's name on here, but first time I've heard him. He should have his own segment every week called Rev's Rant where he swears and gets angry about something football related.

  • In reply to Crowned:

That comment seems funny coming from you crown (their ass!).

  • In reply to Shady:

Good call Shadester....I meant non-football related or tangentally related to football. Always wondered, is your handle an ode to the 8 mile rapper or are you just untrustworthy?

  • In reply to Crowned:

Totally unrelated to Eminem. I got the nickname in college and it just stuck.

  • In reply to Shady:

    Awesome nickname.

  • In reply to Crowned:

i picture one of those crazy nights where you take a quarter of mushrooms and don't tell anyone and then you creep people the fuck out as you party like you've never partied before mainly because you didn't even know the beer was in your hand for about an hour. You come down from the shrooms ready to fucking rock to 7am because you are actually kind of sober. Then you take Rumplminze shots and the rest takes care of itself. Been there. That is how you get a nickname like that.

  • In reply to Crowned:

"Name any good-great WRs that were converted DB/KRs."

Steve Smith (CAR) comes to mind.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    I think I'd say Hester is good(ish)

  • In reply to Church:

He does need to be a full time returner though.

  • In reply to Church:

I'm willing to keep an open mind about him at WR after seeing how Martz is developing him, but I thought to be fair, I'd point out that Smith developed into a pretty damn good receiver.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    from http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/01/week-4-n-f-l-matchups/ :

"The Bears have recorded only two sacks on defense while allowing eight sacks on offense. Their running backs average only 2.8 yards per rush, though that is not such a big deal when you only run the ball to give receivers a breather (13 of the team

  • In reply to FQD1911:

My explanation for them, for what it's worth, FQD, is that it is VERY hard to see and/or hear clearly when one constantly has one's head up one's butt.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

This will be the first real test for our #1 run D. NY is averaging 115 on the ground. They're giving up a lot of run yards themselves so lets see if Forte/Taylor can finally get it going. I don't care if we only have 50 rush yards as long as one of our backs has 100-150 total yards from scrimmage. In Martz's system, screens and catches out of the backfield are the same thing as rush yards; either one does the trick. Thankfully, we have the best catching RB tandem in the game.

  • In reply to Crowned:

you know....i had to think about that last statement: "...we the best catching RB tandem in the game." ehhhh not quite. some to mention:

    LT & Shonn Greene
Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush (healthy)
Thomas Jones & Jamaal Charles (say what you want, that tandem is beastly)

but def. top 5 for sure. even w/ the low numbers

  • In reply to FQD1911:

LT + Green have 77 total receiving yds, 0 catching Tds
Thomas + Bush have 196 total receiving yds, 1 catch TD
    TJ + Charles have 98 , o catching Tds

Forte + Taylor have 255 total receiving yds, 1 catching TD.

It's early, but right now our tandem is above those mentioned squads.

    mmmmmmmmmbrrrs

  • In reply to Crowned:

o my fault....didn't see the CATCHING thing. my bad.

  • In reply to Crowned:

Does anyone have neflix on XBox? Mine really stinks and I can never watch a movie without having to restart numerous times. It didn't used to be this bad, any suggestions?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Cleaned it lately?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Never mind. I forst assumed you were playing a disk.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

hey TRAC what is your Gamertag? u play games online?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    not much anymore. Bigdaddy000777

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

FQD - NY is a great town. Unfortunately the NY Times is arguably the worst sports news source in the country. You have to remember nobody outside of these cities actually watches other team's games. They hear what ESPN says and shows and base their opinions on that. I try and do my best to watch the opponents games. And you know what? It makes you appreciate the whole thing more.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Damn!

Dante Culpepper and Jeff Garcia squared off in a UFL game and I MISSED !?

I think Maurice Claret played in it too!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Al - I was there...and guess what, more importantly, there was a Dusty Dvoracek sighting. He plays for the Omaha Nighthawks game.
It actually is a great atmosphere and my season ticket is five feet from the field for only $15 a game. The place was absolutely deafening when Culpepper's team was pinned inside the one. I of course broke out the "Love Boooooat, Loooooove Boat" chant for him.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Bears Bloggers FF League #1 ANNOUNCENT:

FleshNBlood will trade Wes Welker or Randy Moss to whoever makes the best trade offer for a top rated starting RB.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I will trade Ben Rothlisberger and Calvin Johnson for a good RB

  • In reply to Crowned:

    Week 4 Picks;

Giants -4 (NOT that I'm superstitious or anything though someone STILL has to explain THAT spread to me).

San Diego -8 (Steve Breaston is out, I'm not sure how healthy Larry Fitz REALLY is, Derek Anderson is hovering at a 50% completion rate and Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower both seem to be graduates of the "Adrian peterson School of Ball Security".

Houston -3.5 (Because my favorite teams are the Bears and whoever plays Oakland.)

  • In reply to FQD1911:

    Excuse of the week:

NY lost because the Giants didn't have Umenyiora or Kiwanuka to stop Cutler for throwing for 300 with a 110 passer rating, 3 td's 1 INT and 2 scrambles for 21 yards. If the Giants had their 2 ends they would have certainly beat the Bears. The 2 missing Giants also would have stopped Hester from scoring a punt return TD or at the very least would have caused their own rookie punter not to screw up when trying to punt out of bounds resulting in a 20 yard punt in their own half of the field.

The excuse of the week brought to you by Carnegie Deli.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Actually, the Bears offense this week will have modest stats as they only play 1 series. The rest of the game is the Giants driving down for FG attempts and Hester returning missed FGs... 49-0 Bears. Cutler 5-6 for 65 yards, 1 TD.

How are they going to excuse that one? ;)

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Jets -5
    Texans -3.5
    Chargers-8

  • In reply to hollywood1:

ffeJ nac ew evah a wen daerht esaelp?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    yhw, carT?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Upset special of the week. Bronco's will beat the Titans.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    on

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    ah ah ah

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

    OAML !

  • In reply to hollywood1:

So be it. I'll take the 4-0 with a smile.

  • In reply to Crowned:

    bears +4
    FALCONS -6.5
    Colts -7.5

  • In reply to Crowned:

    Bengals -3 BROWNS
    Jets -5 BILLS
    Colts -7.5 JAGS

I really like the Bears this week but I'm afraid to jinx them. Same reason I have none on my fantasy team...

  • In reply to Church:

    +1
There'd be a lot of people living off football if it were that easy.

  • In reply to Church:

Some interesting stats about our opponent and their QB.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4666542/coughlin-giants-looks-for-answers

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Chargers, Bengals, Texans

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Do we have to use spread?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Yeah. So if you take the Bears +4 and they lose by 3 you still win because you get to add the +4 to the Bears final score. If they lose by 4 it is a push and you still don't win.

If you take the Giants -4 they have to win by 5 for you to win because you subtract 4 from their final score. If they win by 4 it is again a push and you do not win.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

I cannot believe we get a 4 point start on the Giants. Money for old rope.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I'm taking the Bears, Jets and Texans. You can.....PUT IT ON THE BOARD!!!!!!!

  • In reply to MattySouthside:

    Yes?

  • In reply to Shady:

Shady with the assist. I believe it to be the best call in all of sports. I use it for everything.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    Bengals -3 over Browns
    Pats -1 over Dolphins
    MY BEARS +4 over Giants

  • Church is not a building Sd.

  • For the love of Jesus, yes.

  • The Vatican is the anti-church. Just so you know.

  • Chicago +4 over New York (Giants)
    Carolina +13.5 over New Orleans
    Detroit +14.5 over Green Bay

  • Cleveland +3
    Seattle -1
    Bears +4

  • Pretty sure I'm close to 1-8 at this point, but fuck it - let the homer picks continue:

    Bears
    Lions
    Texans

    Mmmmmm BLT

  • Bears
    Lions
    Dolphins

    Going all mammal this week.
