  • In reply to MB30SD:

    wasnt his fault

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The offense is definitely explosive. Let's see if the playbook is deep enough to last the game.

  • In reply to BillSwerski:

54 is looking good. running the Defense and its great to see him back.

  • In reply to BillSwerski:

    manning...that was too easy.

  • In reply to BillSwerski:

Why are we STILL not able to run worth a shit even against a detroit team who has a linbacking core like we did last year.

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    BEAR DOWN!!!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Wow. I am frantically looking for a link, pissed that they aren't working and I am missing the 1st half. And then I realize what time zone I live in and what time the game starts. Doh!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Want to see three things today:
    (1) An offensive line that can play smarter than Suh.
    (2) A defensive line that can frustrate Sophemore Stafford.
    (3) Major begin his campaign to lead the next generation Bears D.

But if I see none of that, I'll be happy with a win. Let this be the start of our playoff run.

Irish, what;s the PW? I went to dude's twitter page and couldn't find it

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

How about that I think we actually have an offense this year!

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Not in the red zone. Shocking I know.

Here's my deal. Forte is great in the open field. He SUCKS in short yardarge man. The dude just fucking runs into our linemen's backs. Have we not fucking learned? Do NOT give the ball to forte inside the 10 man. Give it to chester! Please for fuck sake.

  • That's good stuff Jeff. Peppers gets 2 sacks today. Secondary gets 2 picks. Lets gooooooooo! Bear Down!

  • Shady's Keys to the Game:

    1. Get ahead early. Don't miss any opportunity to score in the red zone early, doing so could cost the Bears late. The sooner they let ForTaylor pound the clock, the better the Bears chances of pounding the Lions.

    2. Double team Calvin Johnson. He'll get his touches, but limit the damage by bracketing Megatron as much as possible on passing downs.

    3. Protect Jay Cutler. No explanation necessary.

By the way is that a photo of Matt Stafford?

  • I AM DIRECT TV!!!!!!!

  • good investment!

  • If anyone is gonna get direct tv let me know. I can get a 100$ of our bills

  • Ok, so here it is. Cutty looks the same as last year so far. Flashes of brilliance and insane manueverability... but if he doesn't stop throwing stupid fucking balls like that we're going to have more of last year.

Damn, Aroma is a fighter man. YAC baby, YAC

  • CAN WE FUCKING TRADE THAT VAGINA NOW PLEASE!!!

  • Well at least the Blackhawks start in about a month

  • Fuck Greg Olsen

  • get Greg Olsen the fuck outta here

  • Fuck man.

  • Dude, we are cursed. Fucking cursed.

  • How bad was the INT?

  • The Hurt Locker looking Goooooooood.

  • Alright D. Come on O. Get them points back.

  • Quadruple coverage

  • I saw the incpmplete he just heaved into no man's land when the D got the penalty for hitting him. He needs to throw it away sometimes. Damn.

  • This is fucking horrible. why are our teams every year so shitty? I mean seriously. every other team seems to at least draft one if not two studs every year. i know we can't have 22 all pros but shit. there had to be some good offenive lineman out there that cna block. Defensive year this year. Fuck!!!

Guys saw Cutler throw a pick and didn't want him to get all the media attention.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It starts with the QB lads. Bench his sissy ass and find me a winner.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Bench Forte huh?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Holy shit. THAT defines us! Huge plays broken on the back of total sheite.

And Doc, STOP Bogarting us man!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Oh shit, here comes the review. Looks like he stayed in at first glance.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I looked away. Did he stay in?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Okay, that cancels the fumble out. Olsen's turn ....

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Nice on the late hit Urlacher....too many guys costing us 15.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Haha. And right when I say Peppers hasn't shown up, he shows up. Sweet.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Olsen made a nice catch.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Lets face it Trac this team, besides a few fellows on D,is full of second tier players. Stating the obvious brotha...it WILL be a long season.

  • In reply to Darrek:

    Sssshhhhh.....

  • In reply to Darrek:

    IM FUCKING LOSING MY MIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to Darrek:

Most turnovers in an NFL game? 12, happened 3 times. The first was 1942 when the Bears played, you guessed it, Detroit.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

We are going to lose this game...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

14-3 against the fucking lions. Jesus christ, same fucking bears.

  • amen - he's an annoying blow-hard

  • In reply to windypack:

Congrats on winning the Division this year.

  • Dude, one thing: The Hurt Locker is back man. He looks tough again.

  • Right now the Lions are playing safe football because they are hoping we will continue to self destruct. They are trying to make us beat ourselves. It just might work.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Am I a prophet or what?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    COME ON WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Are you fucking kidding me?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Holy Freaking Damn Batman

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

THREE FUCKING TURNOVERS AGAINST THE LIONS??? WHY DO THEY EVEN TAKE THE FUCKING FIELD?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    WTF is going on?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    ..........

    the offense is fuckin' up

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    hahaha man these guys suck!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Damnit Manning, didn't want a TD huh?

  • Great D. Great D. The Lions aren't the best offense in the NFL, but it makes me feel good to see our guys get this done.

  • Nice Davis. Why did we keep him and Olsen again?

  • God Olsen sucks.

  • I'm holding back until the 4th quarter gents. Hang in there.

  • Aroma needs to be our #1

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    +1

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Hold the line girls. Don't go wobbly on us yet. Bear Down.

  • And the oline doesn't look half bad today some of the time. I'm pleasantly surprised.

  • Doc, just logged in and was thinking the exact same thing.

  • Paging Mr. Cowher.

  • First half thoughts:

    1) Team has the trademark stamp of a Lovie Smith team. No tenacity. No mental toughness. Too many stupid mistakes.

    2) Defense has looked more stout than last year, but still mediocre.

    3) Defensive line has gotten ZERO pressure. Peppers not earning his money right now.

    4) The offense CAN work. The Bears are moving the ball better than we've seen in a long time. They just have to eliminate mistakes and finish.

    5) Devin Hester's been a non-factor at WR. Chalk up another career ruined by this incompetent coaching staff?

  • In reply to czheng:

Second all of this craig... where is this MAJOR WRIGHT they have been speaking of?

  • In reply to czheng:

I feel bad for whoever paid to watch this garbage.

  • In reply to czheng:

I find it hard to believe how bad we can make ourselves look. Ya think with all the money we put to Peppers we might get a little bit of pressure? Is Tommie Harris playing? Mark Anderson makes one play and he puts his chest out ans struts like he won the fuckin super bowl. Rashieds only contribution is the penalty. Pass protection sucks so bad. Well you Go Matt!

  • In reply to czheng:

HYEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABOUT FUCKING TIM GOOOOO MATT FORTE!!!!!!!!!!

  • direct tv sunday ticket gotta get it.

  • BETNOT miss this Robbie

  • Stafford has that weak shoulder.

  • lets gooo!! YEAH BABY !! IM DRUnk

  • that was fuckin' awesome. good GOD!!!!

  • I guess Peppers only has to play once a half and we're good.

  • There we go down by 1 @ the half. not a bad little comeback. still not very optimistic though

  • Peppers earns some of his money there.

  • I have a feeling this season is going to be like trying to score your first piece of ass. OH YEAH! Oh NO! Yesssss! Noooooo! Hopefully it all ends with a big AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    hahaha

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Just tell her you love her.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

fuck man football is back.. I LOVE MY BEARS! hahah lets gooooooooo.......

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Good start D. 3 and out.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

    lol

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Maybe this is nitpicking, but can people stop saying "game-winning TD" in reference to Johnson's non-catch? There were still 32 seconds left and the Bears would have only needed a FG to either tie or win (depending on the outcome of the 2-pointer), and they still had all three timeouts. I seem to recall a certain Falcons game from two years ago...

  • In reply to Joist:

    agreed

  • Stafford got knocked out by MR. Money Peppers, and Olin was great on that block for Forte 89 yard reception. So far , a good game if we have no turnovers in the next half we will dominate.

It hasn't been all Jay's fault today.

    Great game so far.

  • You guys think last season gave you ulcers and near heart attacks? This year will be much, much worse. 10 points in 90 seconds? Uh...ok. Do it again.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    roflmao

  • stafford HURT!!!!!!! HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    classy

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Peppers just earned hs money. Stafford, frachise QB, DONE.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Here's a question for ya boys... why are they not throwing to Megatron Calvin J?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Man if #54 could only hit like that Detroit safety. Man he can lay the wood on ya!

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Have our corners really been playing this well?

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

    Lach is back.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Wow, can't believe Olsen made an inside move and actually eluded some tacklers.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I am really impressed by Louis, he has played a really solid game. For the first reg game, he has done well for himself.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Shaba making great catches all game and Brian Billick keeps talking about what a great tandem Knox makes with Hester? Yes, Hester is fast, but Shaba is the real deal.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I would love to see the Bears get back to a methodical approach to taking the lead instead of pushing too much. Even though we are

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    moving the ball.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I am happy with our defensive play so far. Much improved from what we are used to seeing.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Yup. Agree with that. Couple of bad penalties and blown assignments early on, but been pretty good since then.

Though this is the Lions ;)

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Great job Lach and Briggs. Offense. Seriously. Get it done.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Cutler making some nice throws, but still forcing too much under pressure. Game MVPs right now are the Bears linebackers, which is just fine by me. Martz was a good addition, but we're going to have to do some serious work on the red zone offense - and that might mean more carries for Chester Taylor.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Cutler fumble with plenty of time. It looks like it will come down to the last few minutes of play gents. Buckle up.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I didn't even have time to compliment Cutler's run b4 he fucks up.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Thank goodness we're playing Detwoit and not a good team.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

geuss i know why there not throwin to him.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I wish they would put Schaeffer back in there.Omiyale plains sucks!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Thank you peanut.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Run it outside please.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Off tackle first down, good.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Omiyale is worse at tackle than guard!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Offense needs to start delivering points instead of just yards.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

We just need one stinking point. Come on guys!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That last pass was an example of what I'm talking about. Knox and Cutler were not on the same page. They were doing well with the short game, I guess Martz couldn't help himself.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    WOW Briggs!!!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Way to go D. 1st down at the 1.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

So far Marinara gets an A.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Kick the field goal please.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

How can you not score with 4 downs from the one foot line.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Lovie didn't read my post I guess. Its gonna be a long season.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    ABSOLUTE GARBAGE

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

How do you not kick the field goal, fire Lovie right now!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Ok, now I'm pissed. That was totally unsatisfactory. Forte gets stuffed. Do we have a fullback?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That is fucking horrible...plain and simple horrible.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Can't even get 1 yard if there are points involved. FUCK.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

that is fucking horrible..just fucking horrible.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

This is where last year's Bears would allow a 99yd pass.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

how do you not take the three? Better something here. dfense needs a rest.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Need points on this drive. Let's go Bears.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Maybe lovie thought it was still preseason and the game does not count?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Even if we win this game, we lost.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Cutler is going to get these wideouts killed. He is not playin wellat all. Wht the fuck? when is gonna get it. If this was a half way descent team we would be getting demolished. Cutler is where it starts. If he doesn't play well we lose. Cut and dry.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Lovie is gutless at the wrong times (3 punts from inside the Detroit 40???) and overconfident at the wrong times (kick the FG and take the fucking lead after being stuffed 3 straight times!!!)

Just an embarrassing waste of a coach.

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

All of them are throw away coaches.

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

WOW Can't say anything but WOW

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

Ladies and gents, Matt Forte is back.

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

Thank you Matt Forte. Thank you Jay Cutler. Game MVP - Bears Linebackers. Today's lesson... this is Lovie Smith's last season.

  • In reply to mottystone:

what?? how is the mvp not Forte?

  • In reply to mottystone:

And by the way ... the world's smallest fucking violin is being played in my pocket for Megatron, all Lions fans and Bears-haters around the world generally. THE PASS WAS INCOMPLETE AND RULED ON TWICE! MOVE ON!

We're 1-0, on top of our division and let's move along to week two please. Good night and Bear down.

  • In reply to mottystone:

I didn't watch the post game interview but I can imagine Lovie happy speak would be frustrating. Let me guess some of this afternoon's Lovie Dovieisms:

"We did some good things out there."
"There is always room to improve."
"I know we'll be able to fix some things."
"I thought our guys played hard."

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP..are you sure? you didn't hear it? unless you recorded his previous post games in which he repeats himself like a FUC!@#$!@NG Parrot!

  • In reply to gpldan:

I don't know if anyone saw this on the FOX telecast after the game, but Peppers went up to Stafford and looked like he was giving the sorry man speech, I didn't try to hurt you etc. Stafford was having none of it, he started to talk and then his face turned red and he spitted out a few expletives and walked away from Orange Julius.

Interesting bit of tv that many probably missed.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    FU STAFFORD...your done.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Ouch. Sammurai Mike and his boys got SPANKED by Pete Carroll in Seattle in a game that included a MIKE WILLIAMS sighting!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I had crabtree starting on my FF team. Fucker made 2 catches. The Niners got spanked like a BSDM sub.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Al..I saw that too..what the $!@#$!@ happened. I mean everybody had them taken the Hawks to the shed.

  • In reply to gpldan:

peppers is a pussy if he did that .... that's his damn job.

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP's FIVE Less than Obvious Observations

    1. Kreutz actually stood Suh up twice by getting under his pads and using that upper body that can bench 500lbs. His technique relied on a LOT of lean in, and his legs held up. That is a good sign.

    2. Once Delmas popped DA over the middle early and after DA dropped the TD, he was no longer a factor. Welcome to starting in the NFL Shabba where guys study you and see how to fuck you up. The book on you so far: weak, can't take a hit. Mostly a deep ball threat.

    3. Besides Child Support, Pisa played a hard game and popped a few heads. If all three LBs stay upright, we can stuff anybody's run game.

    4. When in the middle of the field, Harris was pulled largely in favor of Pringles. Harris is slow. Harris will not be starting after game 2 I predict.

    5. Scrappy and Hungry like the Smurf still get loose and stop opposing punt returners the best. Hester had poor blocking on the returns, he used to catch it and punch the throttle. Now he looks up and dances. I don't know if this can be fixed. He was no threat at wideout, I don't the Lions respected his game and I can see why.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Thanks for metioning Kreutz, he was the reason Forte got up the field to turn those burners on and stopped Mr.Suh from trying to rip Jay Cutler's arm off, Literally.

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP-who does respected DH as a so-called #1WR..well maybe LDL

  • In reply to gpldan:

Peppers did NOTHING wrong. he did, however, show exactly why the Bears gave him 1.2 billion dollars.

  • In reply to gpldan:

naw he just went to see if he was ok. yea stafford looked pissed, but fuck him.

@Irish - seriously? peppers is a pussy? fuck outta here....

  • In reply to gpldan:

But saying the Bears' were lucky to prevail with breaks, mistakes and four turnovers is fair game, though Tommie Harris had the perfect rationalization on this imperfect day.

"[Usually], whoever wins the turnover ratio [wins the game]," Harris said. "We didn't win that and that's what makes it ugly. But it's still good to have more turnovers than the other team and still win the game, so that's a good thing. That shows you that we have to improve and we can beat ourselves, not the other [guys]."

    Perfect.

That dude should NEVER give interviews.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That dude cause a double team that allowed Briggs to get that fumble and sack.

  • In reply to gpldan:

B85S23....Was it you or GP that said he was her stalker...who ever it was I may join you. She's not afraid of cutting through the spin...and clear cut writing...I may actually read someone from the four letter network even though it is their writer..

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I don't remember ever saying that.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Lions defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch has been smoking Bears left tackle Chris Williams and whoever else has been assigned to double- or triple-team him. He doesn't have a sack but has caused at least one holding penalty and has unofficially hit Cutler three times. The Lions have given up 270 yards in the first half, but those kinds of hits and pressure can translate into turnovers at other points in the game.

    KS.

  • In reply to gpldan:

I watched the game from about 5 minutes left in the first half (thanks for the link Brand New Papa). Everyone take a deep breath. It's the first game. I hated the 4 TO's but it happens a lot early in the season. I've got to agree with Johnny about some of the in game comments. Bench Forte. Really? Ragging on Cutler. Really? Making fun of Girly Thor? OK, I kind of agree with that but overall he played pretty well. The OL wasn't great but the Lions have a good DL. Cutler's fumble was due to hanging on too long. Irish, please give up on calling guys pussies. It just makes you look ridiculous. It's like all the Cutler haters always going on and on about him being a pussy. Stupid. Lovie sucked the wang on that 4th and goal. After 3 fucking years in a row of being unable to pickup a 4th and 1 with a run up the gut, give it up. DUH! I'm not hating on the OL but they just aren't capable of moving the pile so do ANYTHING else. How 'bout Martz? How refreshing was that to watch our O and not guess every play? YES!!! The D looked good until the last minute and a half. What was Rod thinking not doubling Megatron at the end? Duh!

I understand people being frustrated with Cutler's INT but he had a great game. I'll take those stats every game. At the end of the year it would be 32 TD's, 16 INT's and 5,000 yds. That would be playoffs for sure. Everyone keeps saying "It's the Lions." So what. They're going to win a few games this year and there ain't no gimmees.

If I was a Lions fan (kill me now) I'd be crying a river. Let's be honest, they were lucky to still have a chance at the end.

It's 1-0 and let's go down to Dallas and steal one!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I stand by my Greg Olsen slights. Pussy.

I call him a pussy because he's fucking 6'5, 250 LBs, runs a 4.5 40... and he's not good at blocking?!?! How is that even physiologically possible? If I was that fucking huge and fast I would be robbing banks at will, I'd be dating 5 chicks at the same time, I'd be fucking destroying people in the NFL, UFC, MLB, and maybe curling at once.

Jebus Christo, the guy should be a freaking monster just demolishing people. Anyway...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, Olsen had a couple of good downfield blocks today. One on the 89 yarder by Matt. It wasn't a killer block but it was enough. BTW, everyone's favorite TE (why I'll never know) Kellen, didn't block anyone on Matt's last crack from the 1. Kellen folded up like a wet taco.

As far as calling NFL'ers pussies, Please. Unless you're talking about Martin Gramatica or some other douchebag of his ilk, it's pretty silly. The game is crazy violent and unless you're a kicker or punter, it takes a large set of cocanuts under your kilt to go out there and mix it up.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Had to work today so just finished the game on the DVR. A couple of thoughts...

Firstly, it's great to have the season finally here. Go Bears! I've following along religiously, just not posting as there has not been too much to say. So, hey everybody.

Has there been a dumber fucking call than not taking that 3 points when down by 1 late in the game? What word describes dumber than stupid? Moronic? Idiotic? Fuck, fuck, fuck! That very nearly cost us this game and is just unforgivable.

Serious question: who makes that call? Is that likely a call by the OC? The head coach, who? Really, most of you guys know a lot more about this game than me. Who on the Bears coaching staff do you think made that call?

Overall, I was not too disappointed with this game. Sometimes we looked pretty good, sometimes not so good, but for the first game of the year in a totally new offensive scheme, not too bad at all. The two things I wanted most out of this game came to pass. We won the game, and Jay Cutler was not hospitalized. We live to fight another day. Bring on the Cowgirls!

Oh yeah. We got lucky. I don't know when this whole "process" of the completion shit started, but for all of the 40+ years of watching NFL football I've done that catch in the endzone would have been a touchdown. We dodged a bullet. Yes, I know. That's how the rule works now. We are lucky that it does. We would have lost that game because some DUMBASS thought passing on a sure 3 points was a good idea.

  • In reply to mikev:

You mean running it in instead of going for the three easy points?

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Watch the replay. 2 feet down with 2 hands on the ball. Then he's on his ass still with unquestionable control of the ball at which point he is down by contact since he was pushed to the ground by contact with the defender. It was a touchdown before the ball even touched the turf people. EVERY nfl fan should be disgusted by this call, including Bears fans. This rule was put in place for bobbling of the ball of players lunging forward for extra yards. Today I was ashamed of being an NFL fan if this is how a game was decided...

  • In reply to caboom68:

Wait, let me guess since I've never seen your name on this blog for well over a year and I'm on at least every couple days.

So, to keep things fun (I could be wrong) I will be doing my best Sherlock Homes impression. From your post I surmise that:

    1. You watched the game with all of your bluest and grayest lions regalia draped around you, your wife, your kids, and your house

    2. You watched in glee as your back up QB, in the waning seconds of the game, drove down the field on our team and threw what looked to be the winning TD

    3. In horror, you watched as the play was ruled incomplete

  • In reply to MB30SD:

How come no one is talking about Best second touchdown? He never crossed the plane.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    Yeah, that was lame '85

  • In reply to MB30SD:

There's some great stuff here you guys have written today. Waffle, I admire your passion and I agree with you for the most part. I am starting to sense a tone in some of these posts that may not be all that fair or accurate. Not being the sensor cop, it's just that I have noticed. Sometimes we can be our own worst enemies when we lose our objectivity because we've gotten to used to griping(I'm just as guilty). I definitely see more than a few things that we need to improve on but lets be real here, this is a new system with new wrinkles causing new problems that this team can overcome with time. We had solid defensive and offensive production today and in my book, that's very encouraging. It felt good to hold back on some of my knee jerk responses today and I was glad when I did because almost every time the Bears made a positive play, created a turnover or made a defensive stop right afterward. I realized how up til now we have been dealing with intangible's and I had gotten used to criticizing and complaining, right or wrong. We all wear our emotions on our sleeve's and I will try to be more realistic when evaluating my teams performance and I encourage all of us to keep it real.

Bear Down Boys, we had 470 yards today on O and our D limited Detwoit to 168 yards. Not too shabby, not shabby at all. I would be willing to bet not too many teams had better numbers than that.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That's how I saw today. We can improve but damn did we have some great moments.

I am still worried but if we can just work these little things out, we can become a great team.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

That's one of the reasons I don't post much during games. Way too amped up. I walked aways from the computer on Megatron's play in the end zone. I assumed it was a TD and when I came back it wasn't. Unreal. I agree it is the correct interpretation of the rule but let's face it, the rule is fucked. Oh well. It's nice to be on the good side of one of "those types of calls." Doesn't happen often.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

If we would have lost today, I would have just watched the games and never talked about the Bear's again to anyone.

But hey, last year, the Steelers almost lost to the Lions, Remember?

20 to 28. They had their entire offense and just one person missing on D.

We have to start thinking like this guys, Detroit is no pushover anymore.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Unless they keep getting the short end of the stick, the Lions should win a few this year. Let's hope they knock off the BiQueens and FudgePackers.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Don't know who said it but if we get rid of Lovie right now and let Martz run the show.. We will pass every down for sure. Tice and Lovie are the only two guys who like to run.

Ohh, and if you want to really make matters worse, I will bet you 20 dollars if he does become our head coach and he was in that same position as Lovie was today when he went for it on 4 and 1, Martz would have done the same thing.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

What's next: The Redskins can't get too excited about this win because they have the mighty Houston Texans coming to town next Sunday. The Cowboys have to try to turn this thing around against the Bears.By Matt Mosley

I am calling it, Romo will throw 300 yards next game.

    I hope I am wrong.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

tony romo is a douche... although he did sliegh JS for like a year. Grrrr...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That's the thing, he was nutz deep in the coochiest cooch in Texas. Slurp.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Oh, almost forgot before I sign off... how much of a beast bad ass is clay mathews? Hope he has an off game in two weeks.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I was apopleptic on that play, Canada. I believe that is the only word which describes my feelings at that time. I've seen that happen too many times. We, like any team, are vulnerable when a QB puts a jump ball up there for a tall receiver. Like Artoo, I don't think it would be possible to recover from a loss like that, if we hadn't edged it.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

No time to read 386 comments so sorry if my post is redundant in any way.

Wow, a win that should have been a loss! That's WAY better than a loss that should have been a win. And MANY MANY bright points in this game - the first and foremost being...

    HE'S BAAAACKK!!!!! (BL)
    and
THEY'RE BAAAACKKK!!!!! (The formerly vaunted Chicago Bears D)

(at least for now, and against the Lions)

Seriously, all the positives I saw on D were pretty much more than enough to get me excited about this season. If we can stay healthy, this front 7 looks pretty dang good, maybe enough so to make up for our secondary weakness. And hats off to Rod Marinelli, in the first official playcalling game of his NFL career, he did a pretty great job right up until the last (almost) (should have been) game-winning drive. But I forgive him even that, as long as he learns from it, because frankly, the prevent defense has been called by coach after coach after coach even while it is just as frequently lambasted by fans, especially when it doesn't work. If he does that again next week in the same position, I will be pissed.

And Julius Peppers? WELCOME ABOARD MR. STUD MAN!!! You look FANTASTIC in orange and blue.

How about on the O side? Well I don't think you can argue with the yards gained. I am very excited about Mike Martz after that game - and this after I've been liking and noticing his playcalling throughout the preseason. They say that's what you get with Martz - lots of yards, sometimes lots of points, but lots of turnovers. Well only one of those turnovers is relevant to that point - he should NOT have been going for it on 3rd and 20, and I can get eye witness testimony that I was screaming that very fact prior to the play. But having Pussy Olsen get stripped, having Matt Forte lose the ball not once but TWICE - that is not on him, although there should be plenty of emphasis on ball protection drills this week.

But overall, this guy seems to know how to use his tools. And he totally strikes me as smart enough to learn how to keep tweaking and improving week by week as opposed to the prior regime.

As for Lovie? That idiot had ONE DECISION to make during that game - and of course he fucked it up. Not only did he fuck it up but, in true Lovie Demented Stubborn Mule Style, he insisted that it was the RIGHT decision, and he would make it again and again and again. (BTW can't we fire him right now just for that idiocy? It's on tape.) The one thing we know about Lovie is he failed Logic 101 (do they even have book larnin in Big Sandy?) - by saying that the DOWNSIDE in that decision was that we hold them and they punt. Hey Douchebag, I beg to differ. Just because we did hold them doesn't prove your logic correct.

So I'm back to my original premise for this season, which is, we might end up being good but can we stay out of the way of our horribly incompetent head coach? Success can only be there for us if Lovie plays NO PART in it.

    A few other comments...

I think young Johnny Knox hasn't learned his route tree yet. I think he needs to.

Devin Hester, you're back to looking kind of lost and scared on punt returns. And you're a non-factor as a receiver (which is good for us, Jay will be going to the competent receivers on the team). How do YOU feel about Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith completely ruining you as a football player? I know how I feel.

I am confident that Martz will learn that we STILL have no goal line short yardage offense. Best that he not even try, not with this line. He's got plenty other tricks in the bag plus a running mofo at QB. I give him a pass for this week, like Marinelli, if he does it again next week, no pass. Lobo, you're exactly right about Martz's need to understand that misdirection and other obfuscating tricks are going to be what's needed with this line and these runners.

Overall I say more positives than negatives and some things to get truly excited about. Matt Forte, I am excited about you! (just stop with the putting the ball down) Chester Taylor, I am REALLY excited by you! Brian and Lance and Julius, I am TOTALLY excited by what the three of can bring to the table this year. Johnny K and Devin A - I think you guys are going to be stud receivers this year (keep working on knowing the plays though Johnny). And Jay Cutler, you held the ball too long in the second half, and you made several horrific decisions (only one of which cost us with a turnover) - but I am still excited by you sir! You can get it to our receivers, and you can run for the first down. You are tough as nails physically and mentally. Learn to throw the ball away (and not just to possibly open areas on the field), react quicker, and you are going to be great!

BEAR DOWN!!!! WE ARE ONE and O and TIED FOR DIVISION LEAD!!!!

  • In reply to caboom68:

Who said Lovie isn't stubborn? Naaawww... common!

    He is just fucking ridiculous:

"I felt like we were playing great defense and I just didn't feel good about having three points in that situation," Smith said. "The worst-case scenario would have been for us not to get it and we still had them backed up. It was a field position game throughout. I'd make that call every time."

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I guess that answers my "who made that stupid fucking call" question. I figured it had to be Lovie, but had to ask. Fucking dumbass.

It sucks when you have to win the game in spite of your coach. But, win we did, so I'm a happy camper for now.

  • In reply to mikev:

Nice to have you back mike. Yeah, he's terrible.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I was thinking about posting that for you MB but I didn't want you to get more pissed off about Lovie and then you already are.

Btw, go the the last blog. I called it Cowgirls lost to Redskins

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Thanks '85. I'm not even pissed off at Lovie any more as much as I am just completely disgusted. I'm more pissed that he's still our coach.

Well, boys & girls. The Cowboy-Redskin game has ended and you can put it right into the "UGLY" pile with so many other Week 1 games.

PLEASE let Alex Barron start at Right Offensive Tackle for the Cowboys next week!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The broadcast team is saying "Oh, that holding penalty wiped out the winning TD pass and great play by Romo".

    Well DUH, you morons!
If Barron HADN'T held Brian Orakpo, Tony Romo would have been TOAST!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Agree, that was definitely a sack without the hold. I hope the Cowgirls make as many stupid mistakes next week as they did tonight!

That shows you that we have to improve and we can beat ourselves, not the other [guys]."

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Trac's 7 Obvious Observations:

    1) With the exception of untimely turnovers and poor goal line/red zone play by our O, I was somewhat satisfied with the improvement in our overall offensive and defensive performance. There is hope..... I think.
    2) I thought early on when it became apparent that the Bears were self destructing, Jim Swartz made the mistake of playing not to lose instead of playing to win. I believe that, more than anything, turned out to be the difference in the game.
    3) It's obvious Devin Hester is now a liability returning punts and I think he needs to be fired from returning kicks. The guy is actually hurting our ability to field and return punts now.
    4) Shabby Doo needs to hit the weight room. I like DA but he will never be able to be any better than he is unless he gets stronger, he needs a bigger body. Also, I noticed some dropped balls and a sure TD which would have helped change the momentum early in the game.
    5) We need a goal line run option outside of Forte. It is obvious to me the guy is so worried about fumbling and holding onto the ball that it's effecting his ability to focus on the job at hand(getting into the end zone).
    6) Whoever decided to go for a TD on 4th and goal made the wrong call, period. To come away without points by electing to go for it instead of going for the lead with what looked to be a sure FG was a high school level coaching mistake and it darn near cost us the game. Shame on you Lovie for not seeing what 95% of us saw watching the game. Kick the friggin FG next time.
    7) Take away the stupid turnovers and this game would have been a blow out. Take heart Bears fans, this team isn't as bad as we thought they were.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Not much argument from here, Trac, except, as I already posted, I would go the OTHER dirction on Hester and put him back on returns and relieve him of his receiving duties.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

but Al...what give up the experiment..blasphemy..

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Shabby Doo was getting knocked out. Period. He did drop a great td pass. Fo Sho.

You are right about number 6, 3, 7 and 5.

To fix number 5, put Taylor back there. He didn't disappoint.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

let's get Knox on steroids too Trac, if he's going to continue to blow routes then he might as well beef up and be useful somehow.

We could really have used Tofu and/or Unga today. They were killer blows really. We *must* get a fullback.

Just watching the Dallas Cowboys 'Hard Knocks' and was impressed with WR Todd Lowber (6'3) - good hands, very athletic. googled him and he's a free agent ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Knox and Shabba were lost in the playbook today.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    yep.

Irish..thanks bud....I thought it was JJ that asked that..and your right he let him of the hook.

  • In reply to mottystone:

Is Ron Turner related to Ike? I ask because he sured SCREWED US while he was here.

  • In reply to mottystone:

well, i just got back from Alary's in MN and watching the game there was a real treat. Aside from the quick booze service by scantily clad ladies there was one thing there that made me extremely happy.
When plays didn't go our way or there was a fumble or other costly mistake the whole bar didn't start cursing dudes out, calling people pussies, whine like bitches in general, etc. They clapped and offered encouragement that the players couldn't even hear. It was a great environment and not poison like here on the blog.

The simple fact is that we fucking kicked the shit out of the Lions. We maimed their golden boy quarterback, we stuffed the fuck out of their highly touted rookie, we got pressue on the qb for the most part, our LB's fucked dudes up, Cutler threw for over 360 yards and it would have been 400 and an additional TD if DA didn't drop 3 catchable balls including a pretty, pretty corner route. Did someone actually blame Lovie for Forte's fumble? are you fucking serious? We fucking trounced the Lions as i fucking predicted. Should we have kicked the field goal instead of going for it on 4th? yes. Should we have qb snuck the ball in 3 plays earlier? yes. you know what? fuck it. I read some of the fucking dumbest comments ever on this thread today. i'm disgusted.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I'm not disgusted by Lovie's decision to go for it on 4th down. I'm disgusted that we couldn't make it.

If you want happy dappy talk stay up at the strip club. Buy into the Lovieisms of rainbows and unicorns farting skittles and rainbows.

I'm glad we are 1-0 and I am pulling big time for a win in Dallas. No doubt. But we need to be realistic here, and pointing out the fact that while we ruled the stat page we damn near lost, and probably shoulda lost the game.

  • In reply to gpldan:

i've never bought into bullshit but watch the fucking game at least. Someone makes a comment about Peppers showing up once a half which is one of the most idiotic comments by fair weather know nothing guys that think they know football. Watch the fucking game and focus on the plays. I've never bought into Lovieisms but when some retard blames a fumble after a 25 yard run on Lovie Smith i have to say something. that was a brutal and costly fumble and the comment was as gay as that fumble was costly.
First game and these naysayers are out in full force and when combined with the fucking trolls that camp out here it makes it unbearable to read. We didn't rule the damn stat page, we fucking hurt their players, physically had our way with them, pushed them around, possibly ruined the lions season, didn't suffer any casualties during the process, got our MLB back, watched our QB throw for the 2nd most yards in his career, put the lockdown on Megatron, Best, Suh, and the rest of the fags. The only guy that gave us trouble was Vandenbosch.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Vadenbosch ruined the fourth and goal, and almost killed Jay Cutler.

But you are right, our D took care of bussiness and if our offense would have not turned it over, Blow out.

By the way, ahem, Anderson didn't look to bad and neither did Indie.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

johnny.... don't be disgusted bro...the frustration is with the possibilities or should I say opportunities.. if we actually had succeed with some of our miscue's it would of been a massacre. Instead we squeaked one out..yes. IT IS A (W) for the column..but the concern is what is next week and the week after that..if we play like we did today..the W's will be more difficult in the future...just say...

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

Shabba dropped a couple balls that he should have caught. We arent good enough to not make plays that are more or less routine.

It's not over yet girls. Now we will actually have to defend the pass.

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

Here we go. Return of the old Bears D, or dawn of a new one?

Glad the cover 2 is keeping them from adavncing the ball....damn

Challenge coming... he had that ball.

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

Those are the kind of breaks that you need in a season for it to be special. I'm proud of the D today, really showed some heart. Hated the "bend don't break" aspect of the last 1:30, should have cost us but didn't today. Cutty and the boys are going to get better, timing is a tough thing to secure, but I love what I see from Stankonia, he's the real deal.

  • In reply to westcoastbear:

We won a game on an incredible stupid technicality that will be making Lions fans piss blood it was such a gut blow.

We controlled the stats and the field position and we cannot score for shit.

Without a G-C-C combo that can push, Cutler will not make it through the season.

Omlette MUST go. He MUST. Put Shaeffer in ASAP.

Martz is running all kinds of spread misdirection to make the O-line get out in space and Cutler out of the pocket. It's his only hope.

Other teams will watch this game and learn one lesson: blitz blitz blitz the Bears.

  • In reply to gpldan:

By the way, I thought Detroit got lucky too, didn't they score a touchdown without crossing the plane?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Lovie Smith needs to be fired...when your behind, you go for the lead. Too many turnovers and misccommunications. That sure looked like a catch to me (Detroit touchdown), but I guess not. Defense played better, but offense... not so good.

  • In reply to RogerMinton:

I just don't get how we can play stifling defense all 2nd half, and at the end of the 1st, and then let Shaun fucking Hill march down the field on us like it's nothing. Lovie must be taking over the play calls in these situations, it seems like his particular brand of incompetence.

People, this was a loss. Through and through. And the reason Lovie's a shitty coach is cuz he's gonna go into the locker room and blow sunshine up this team's ass about how they found a way to win. They didn't. That it even came down to that shitty call is an embarrassment.

That said, for a loss, lots that was encouraging:

    - Nice to see the offense move the ball pretty well after all these years. You gotta think that the stalls, the turnovers, the misreads will get cleaned up a bit as the year goes on. Hopefully as these guys get more time in the system, we'll start to see those drives get finished. I'm hopeful.

    - Nice to see the defense getting off the field a bit. Sure, the Lions offense was totally inept without Stafford, but Shaun Hill's just the kind of guy that lights up the Bears D for 275 and 2TDs last year. The fact that Megatron wasn't more of a factor throughout has to be a positive. And we did pretty well against their run game.

    - Nice to see some big plays in the Lions backfield. Couple of nice sacks, couple of turnovers.

    - Personnel: Matt Forte is back. Lach is back. G-Reg will get touches. Cutty didn't make too many bad decisions despite running for his life a lot of the time. Coverage seemed decent for 80% of the game. Chester Taylor is a valuable addition. Knox and Aromashodu will blossom this year.

    Couple of discouraging bits:

    - The run game. You can't get the ball inside the 1 yard line and not score. You just can't.

    - Pass protection. Not sure if Jay can last 16 games with that kind of pressure.

    - Devin Hester has disappeared.

    - Lovie's decision-making. As usual.

    - Would have liked to see the DL be more disruptive more of the time.

    I miss anything?

  • In reply to EVILteddie:

Oh, yes, one more thing. That last Lions drive was disastrous. And we've seen it happen so many times over the last few years. Bears D have GOT to find a way to stop teams' desperate two-minute drives.

  • In reply to czheng:

You can't stop a 6'5 beast with midget DBs Craig. I've been crying out for a similar beast for ever. The Cover two did its job today perfectly although it gets blitzed on this blog. You cannot stop class from being classy. Large talented receivers are uncoverable. For some reason we're obsessed with picking talentless, brain-dead midgets at receiver.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Ahem, Uhh.. didn't we stop that 6'5 beast in the first Half.. I seem to recall no touchdowns in the first half by that beast. Just sayin

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

That midget CB got burned, caught up, then got a hand on it.

Bowman did a good job this game but he could have been worse if ( now I am saying the same if's that bear's have on them that make them sound good, like if the o-line blocks, if jay doesn't throw a pick, and yada yada.) Johnson was smart, he will learn to keep the ball in his hands better, or try to change the rule.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Not just the last throw... we let them drive down the field easily, after keeping them from getting even a first down all half. I understand it comes with the territory, one team trying to prevent the big play and the other pulling out all the stops. But still, would like to the bear clamp down on those drives a little more often, so that we don't have to worry about a 6'5" beast winning jump balls in the end zone.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Bowman and Tillman are both over 6'. Hardly midgets. The only guys that are really short are the Moore twins.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Anybody see this post from Conan O'brien's twitter last night?
@ConanOBrien: Great game last night. Brett Favre fell on two loose balls and that was in the locker room.

  • In reply to PhilinNYC:

    Phil...or his own.

  • In reply to PhilinNYC:

Here's an encouraging stat I looked up:

Bears are #2 in total offense behind INDY:

    INDY: 463 yards, 24 points
    Bears: 463 yds, 19 points

Bears are #2 in total Defense behind MIA:

Dolphins: 166 total yds and 10 points allowed
Bears: 168 total yds and 14 points allowed

Of course, pessimist will argue it was the Lions, and it's only week 1, but the bears won, avoided injury, and dominated in all phases of the game...now if we can just find a way to get it into the endzone more often...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

this is the post that i should have written instead of calling dudes out and being all angry and pissy. My apologies boys, i just saw too many good things out there after all of the questions and the media tearing us a new asshole for the last 3 months. Up until that last series the D looked strong and having a real MLB running the show made the defense look better. I got pissed because of critics saying Best was going to rape us, Stafford/Johnson was going to tear us up all game, etc. Fuck that, Stafford got pissed at Peppers because he is definitely going to miss some time and when he does come back he will go down the first time he is hit hard. We brought the fucking heat, the playcalling, except for the goal line debacle, was creative and kept the Lions on their heals for the most part and Special Teams didn't give up any game changing plays. I see alot of positives that will be built on going into next week.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I was the one that said, "I guess Peppers only has to play once a half and we're good." It was a backhanded compliment that on one play Peppers could basically turn around a whole half for us.

It was also a knock. I missed most of the end of the 1st Q and almost all of the 2nd until the crazy stuff at the end. I saw like 5 other posts calling for Pep to step it up so I assumed not much good had happened and the last play I saw was his roughing the passer penalty that turned 4th down into a 1st down and then a Det TD. So I made an assumption about the whole half based on those things and shouldn't have.

And I get way too crazy during games and should not post when I am essentially a lunatic. This 3 years has made me jaded. And I know like 3 things about football, not nothing. Jeez!

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

and a/b the Dolphins....they played the Bills, so that's a moot point (and the Lions are MUCH better than the damn Bills).

Indy is always going to put up points, but they lost....we won. end of story.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Kreutz downplayed his block earlier in the game that was a key in springing Matt Forte after he caught a screen pass that turned into an 89-yard TD.

"People can talk about the block all they want, but Matt outran like seven guys," Kreutz said. "That's my job on that play. That's what they asked me to do, and that's what I did."

    Daily Herlad.

    Great Kretuz.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

It was a good block, but I like the fact that Olin talks about it like most of us would - it's his *job* to make that block.

Sitting it out: For the first time in his career, defensive tackle Marcus Harrison, the 2008 third-round draft pick from Arkansas, was inactive Sunday.

The Bears tried to hand Harrison the starting nose tackle position last year, but he handed it back to Anthony Adams with mostly uninspired play. Now he has fallen to third on the depth chart, behind Matt Toeaina at nose tackle and Henry Melton at the three-technique tackle. Coaches had hoped the 6-foot-3, 312-pound Harrison could at the very least be an effective backup at both tackle positions, but he has failed to live up to expectations - again.

    Daily Herald. Ouch

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

Speaking of LBs, Pisa Tinoisamoa knocked some heads yesterday. He wasn't making big plays like Urlacher and Briggs, but he was taking on some lead blockers with a fury, and freeing up his teammates to make the plays.

I remember that!!! He literally dove into two blockers on a sweep and that left who ever it was open to make the tackle. The man is not selfish.

    And this: http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bears-fire-lovie-smith/2010/09/bears-beat-lions-despite-major-coaching-mistake.html

You know guys, the one thing that scares me the most isn't lovie smith (I know, I can't believe it either), it's our constant inability to put points on the board when inside the 10, or 5... and to get just one yarders when we need them most. I think we can fix and get better at the other bonehead shit, it was the first game after all.

I mean I know our line isn

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

A win is a win! Bear down, Chicago Bears!!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Call me crazy, and most ppl would, but I agreed with Lovie's decision to go for it on 4rth and INCHES. If you can't gain 1 yard in four tries, you deserve to lose. The counter-logic follows: 'They would have got a 16-14 lead, and the defense could've held' but OBVIOUSLY the D didn't hold, and eventually getting a TD FORCED the lions to score a TD...if it wasn't for that call, the lions would have kicked a FG from the 20...time expires...17-16 Lions...bring out the death march.

I would much rather have the Lions pinned on their own 1, with our smothering D, and Hester returning it from midfield.

As for the Mega-tron fiasco: now every Lion's fan, and Lion's sympathizer feels the raider's pain with the tuck rule - correct interpretation, bad rule...

HOWEVER, imo, the rule kinda balances out. CBs can't as much whiff a WRs ass without being called for interference - WR FREQUENTLY push off the secondary and never get called for it. Olinemen hold on nearly every play - if you lay a finger on a qb, unnecessary roughness....almost every single aspect of the game favors the passing game. Could you imagine how frustrating it is to play in the secondary in the NFL? So although I agree that the rule should be changed, I hold some reservations...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

It was a good call to go for it on 4th down, if:
    A. You're the kind of person to drive over a sink hole in the road thinking your car will float to the other side because you have an air foil on the rear end.
    B. You like maim and mutilate yourself with sharp pointed objects.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Was it still a good call if Cutler doesn't hit Forte in the endzone for six, Trac?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

We handled an awesome D-line pretty well considering. And that game showed we can shut down any run game going. Just need to get Chris Harris out of the FS spot ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Harris is horrible. Pringles + Manning is the way to go.

We were in Cover 3 btw on that Megatron non-TD. It is not Manning's responsibility to be over the top in that coverage. Yet, he was the one almost there.

Want to know which safety had responsibility for Megatron over the top on that play? Guess.

Note that the next two plays, they reversed and put Daniael on over the top coverage and he took care of Megatron because they came right back to the play.

    Harris sucks.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Manning is better than Harris? Wow.. btw, I love Manning as a kick returner.. he is just brutal.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Another comment: DJ Moore played some decent nickel out there.

    For a MOTHERFUCKING Smurf.

We gotta get Pringles out there and maybe even Anti-Plank needs to get healthy, because the following people should not be in the Bears secondary:

    Corey Graham
    Chris Harris

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

While I think that Johnson certainly showed posession, the referees did not and that is what counts. Lucky break for us to be sure.

On the other hand, if you want to see how it is *supposed* to be done watch Matt Forte's second TD catch a couple more times. It clearly hurt when he hit the ground, but you can see total concentration on holding onto the ball to secure the reception.

Good stuff - damn good stuff actually.

Amid all the doom and gloom of yesterday's win(!), you have to be encouraged that Matt and Brian look to be back in a big way.

    Bear Down

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

I guarantee that all those who thought it was a bad call, would be proclaiming it was a good call, IF they scored on 4rth..."Bold" " the shot of life the team needed from an otherwise corpse of a coach" "sending a message: we're not the bears of old"...in an alternate universe where the Bears did score, these would have been the comments.

What worries me more than the call is our lack of a straight-line, run you over HB. Forte and Taylor are more finesse, and we need a bruiser, which is why I thought we kept Bell, but perhaps he's too small or the moment was too important to stick him in out of the blue. Still, we need a slasher/bruiser to get those short yards, cuz god knows our Oline isn't gonna knock too many off the line...

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

85b4e...I think MM has no choice but to run a misdirection O..because of our line..I think even Tice want's to throw the rotten omelet in the garbage.

As I have said earlier on this post..glad to have the W but damn the mental mistakes and sloppiness is what worries me. I am hoping that Al is correct that it is the beginning of the season and many other were just as sloppy. We are all to familiar with LDL and his attitude about wins.

He probably brought the family to Chuck Cheese and told the kids it was just like or even better than Disneyworld, the pisser is they believed him. crickey

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

When I was watching the game, I kinda hoped they would put Dez in and hand him the ball.

But more, that we still had someone who could go over the top like Sweetness used to do.

  • In reply to KissMyButkus:

No way bro. You're playing a team that cannot move the football. You're a point behind, and it's 4th down. You have not managed to run the ball between the tackles. You kick it. period. You take the lead. Only for Jay pulling it out of the bag, we lose that game because of a stupid decision.

  • In reply to EVILteddie:

According to the law or rules of NFL football that was not a catch, but because of that rule it is.

This is like the tuck rule, when the raiders played the patriots, it should be changed because clearly Johnson caught the ball.

One note, Martz is the reason we got touchdowns and the lead, Lovie should not have gone for it. The number two note, how come we are not bitching about the Best touchdown, he never crossed the line.

A win is a win, Stop hating the Bear's and hate the rules. Period.

  • In reply to EVILteddie:

3 sacks in first 16 minutes of game, not the only team with bad protection, and Jay had one int, one ff, and held the ball to long. He needs to get rid of it quicker.

By the way, Knox and Aromashodu need to practice more or something, two plays they went the wrong way.

The o-line need to block better on runs. Pure a simple, and I didn't hear much about Mr. Suh, so I am kinda happy about that but I knew Bosch would get back there.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

My man Louis took care of Suh Artoo. And a whole lot of people were jumping down Cutler's throat when he did choose to get rid of it more quickly last year, by throwing it to the opposition. I'll take sacks all day long rather than throw the INTs. I missed his interception but thought he was pretty good today considering Omelette was a revolving door and the cause of the fumble. Again.

But well done Lance. Now if we can just get *anyone* in there for Omelette ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Is that who it was? I was wondering lol because I thought him and Olin did it.

If it was all Louis, we have a guard.

Omeltte had blocked his guy to the ground.. lets him get back up and get the sack.

    Sad.. just sad.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Oh, and kudos to Louis, Briggs and Butters who all recovered fumbles. Peppers and Briggs for causing them, and to Pep for knocking the QB out of the game. Can't ask much more of him.

If we get Wright back for the Dallas game and threaten Omelette with execution, we have a good chance of beating them. Detroit had a total of 20 yards rushing! 160 yards in the air. This is a team that was running the ball at will during the pre-season. Our defense is back, new and improved gents.

  • Called it 17-14, but what the hey ...

Forte put up some nice numbers but fumbled the ball twice. In one game. Not acceptable. He worries me man. Tommie was pressure all the way and I think he got the strip on Hill.

Lucky? Lucky?! The Lions were lucky. They were lucky they were in this game right up until the last seconds because we kicked their f***in asses up and down the field all day. They had zero offense before the last drive.

Lovie Smith is lucky though. That motherbanger got out of jail thanks to Jay Cutler. You're a point down and you haven't been successful running it up the gut when the opposition knows it's a run. They have one of the biggest and best lines in football. What does Lovie do on 4th and goal when all we need to do is kick it for the lead against a team that can't do shit? Attempts to piss away yet another game, that's what. Detroit loses their franchise QB early in the game, can't move the ball, but Lovie somehow still manages to do everything he could to hand them the game. But everyone on here knows he's a moron, so that's all moot.

No surprises whatsoever today though ...

    * Low-scoring game full of cluster-fucks. Check.

    * The Omelette has no place on this team. Kevin Shaffer please? Check.

    * Peppers and Harris can still bring it. Check.

    * A lot of people need to eat crow on the Urlacher hate. Check.

    * A lot of people need to eat crow on the Forte hate. Check.

    * A lot of people need to eat crow on the Cutler hate. Check.

    * Lovie Smith was oxygen deprived at birth and will cost us games as a result. Check.

    * Johnny Knox and Devin Hester haven't got a f**kin clue what they're doing. Check.

But a win is a win and we're on top of the division. We'll get better. Omelette will get benched. Shabba will be crowned. Someone will figure out that we should be throwing a lot more screen passes and not run the ball behind Kreutz.

    Bring on Dallas. 2-0.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Lol I will admit that the Oline needs to get better, and What about the Olin hate? I thought he did great, he was the reason Forte got up field for that first TD.

  • you never know. they had 3 TOs and Martz could've engineered something to get into FG range w/ Robbie Gould as our placekicker. anything can/could happen

  • In reply to FQD1911:

BRAINA URLACHER: Nice to have you back, fella. We've missed you.

    MATT FORTE: Ditto.

CHESTER TAYLOR: Welcome aboard, Chet. You're gonna help us and your departure has left a nice hole in S.S. Vikings.

LANCE BRIGGS. WHAT a freakin' strip play just when they needed it! Manly. VERY manly.

JAY CUTLER. You did a LOT good things today but you seem to INSIST on punctuating them with at least one complete brain cramp. I mean, what part of "Triple coverage" do you not yet understand? Oh, and everybody I watch the games with, myself included HATES your body language.

DEVIN HESTER: The nicest thing I can say about your performance on punt returns today? You looked tentavive, DH. Very tentative. Maybe it's time to abandon the receiver experiment, put you back on returns exclusively, and leave the route running to Aroma, Knox and Bennett.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

BAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA... second INT for rogers. NO clue who he was throwing to on that one. Holy cripes. Oh, please jebus let the pack lose this one. For one week at least, we'd be first place in the north baby.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Don't we go top because of the division win?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Ugly, ugly, ugly, Fuckin UGLY. But I'll take it, that Detroit D-line was either bad-ass or our O-line is worse than I thought. And the call at the end, if they needed that call after four Bear turnovers then fuck em they deserve to lose.

  • In reply to number1ninja:

One of the biggest and most talented D-lines in the NFL, Ninja. Tough assignment for us today, we weren't all bad.

To those saying "Iit's a bad rule." I say "Wrong, wrong, wrong".

Don't parrott NFL Network's, Jamie Dukes, who tore up asheet of paper while ranting that the "...rule should be changed."

Stick that rant where the sun don't shine, Jamie.

You and the legion of ersatz, Bear-hating, "experts" are just P.O'd that you all picked the Lions.

I GUARANTEE you that if the positions had been reversed and that had been a BEARS' receiver these "experts" would all be singing a DIFFERENT tune. One along the lines of "Well, that's the rule, it wasn't a catch, we TOLD you The Bears wouldn't win".

The rule WAS changed. It was chamged to take a judgement call by the officials out of the mix. Same thing with the "force out" rule which is now "Come down with 2 feet in bounds, period."

Anything that takes a "judgement call" away from the Zebras is fine by me.

It's simple: Hang on to the ball. That's the rule. It wasn't a catch by either the LETTER of the law nor THE SPIRIT of it!
    Deal with it.

    CAUSE and EFFECT

    1. cause: no hitting in camp effect: fumblitous (MF & GO)

    2. cause: attitude by LDL effect; never intensity or urgency in the game.

    3. cause: O-line piss poor effect: QB happy feet running for life INT's- yes I blame JC on his int's.. but running for you life you throw scared.

    4. cause: again no contact in camp effect: when are so-called receivers get hit or hear foot steps you drop the rock.

I can go on but you know the drill brothers and sisters...

The worst part was when LDL was aksed about how he felt the game went..and the interviewer said it was tough to watch with all the miscue's....LDL's response "It's was a great game" and that I'm sure the fans loved the entertainment".... WTF you MotherFU!@##$!@%ER LDL what are you running for mayor you.. ASSMUNCH! I swear this assmunch is useless..

You know some may say we have second tier players.. I don't believe that at all, but when you have an average coach or even sub average HC..you get coached down and that may be the saddest part of this whole team.

p.s. If you don't believe that ask Tina Turner what it felt like to be under Ike...right now Ike(LDL)has got our mind set Tina(Da Bears)that it's all o.k. ..hey Ike hit me with another!

    FU LOVIE!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I second that emotion on Lovie.

Regarding "Ugly". I don't know if you've noticed, but a LOT of these games have looked ragged and/or down right ugly. From Thursday's opener to things like today's Bear game and that snoozer in Pittsburgh that went to a 9-9 O.T.

I don't know if ANYBODY is practicing full contact these days because they just don't want to risk injury.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Wow, no love for Ike Turner. Rocket 88 was one of the first Rock n Roll songs recorded. Granted he was a crazy man but really talented. I saw him a couple of times before he passed on and got him to sign a CD. RIP Ike. BTW, no doubt he was a horrible person when he drugging it up but I have a hard time believing Tina was a perfect angel to his perfect devil. Somehow that just doesn't ring true.

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Wow. Cutler throws one interception and the world has ended? Eh, he also threw for 372 yards and a money game-winning TD when our backs were up against the wall thanks to our braindead coach.

And apparently the front office has woken up to our WR problem somewhat - or at least admitted there's a problem :

That was my exact feeling as I turned the air blue AK ... fire him now. That was just inexcusable. We played great and nearly lost because of that incredible decision to ignore taking the lead. unbelievable.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

why not get it over with, fire him and let mad martz run the show from here out?
the flip side of that stupid call was NOT going for it on 4th down from the 38 yard line like 5 times. Really? the D playing awesome and you choose a net 18 yard gain? fucking lovie. call the snipers.

  • In reply to animal:

OMG!!!! What do we have to do...I'll write the NFL, I'll write The Governer..shit I'll write to Santa ...

FIRE LUVIe NOW!!! I actually like the Idea of Martz taking over even though I really don't like him either. Martz Rams would have NEVER called that series inside the 1 yard line. HOLEE CRAP! Lovie needs to go and I mean RIGHT NOW!

  • After reading the ruling they were absolutely right on the making of the call, and I agree that when "on the way to the ground" you have to be hanging on to that ball until you are completely down.
He pulled a boner by going one handed before he was completely down. So that was not a gimmie by the ref's , Johnson was stupid in what he did.
We got a huge break, but it doesn't forgive our screwups, and 4 turnovers is inexcusible

  • Didn't he fumble the ball? And Forte appears to have AP's problem too ...

  • Being the pragmatic pessimist that I am, Doc, I like to think that I would not be whining if that had been a Bear receiver.

In any case, I stand by my comment. Any rule that relieves the Zebras of a judgement call, fine by me.

If I were in charge I would overhaul the Pass Interference penalty.

There should be not such a thing as a 40 or 50 yard penalty, especially as the Zebras routinely do not enforce the rule equally for defenders as they as supposed to.

As WRONG as the NCAA has it with their version of overtime (which is an absolutely ridiculous aberration), they have it RIGHT on P.I. with a spot foul or 15 yards, maximum, plus an automatic first down.

  • Yes doc, he did jis job a couple times, which was great to see. But didn't he also fumble and lose the ball inside the 20? Which would you rather have had?

  • yeah, what a bunch of fuckups, we only had 470 yards of offense. I'm out.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

johnny....I know with JC @ what 108 + passer rating..don't be upset brother..again it's just the opportunities only come once. If we don't clean it up it could mean a rough season.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Martz commited to dual TE sets to give Cutler time and even then there was pressure. If you have Manofmoolah on one side and Olsen on the other, and both pass protect, Cutler better fucking have time to allow Knox or Hester to get open or go deep.

I was disheartened by the amount of pressure the Lions could generate when we were in full protect mode.

OTOH, I think the Lions have a front four that is going to give several teams pause. I think that may have been one of the toughest front 4 the Bears will have to see.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Exactly, Gpl - that front four was a lot to handle. I thought our offense played pretty well (apart from the receivers, they suck) considering. Cutler looks improved in his decisions i.e. he'll take a sack or tuck it and run instead of forcing every ball downfield. He threw an INT, so what, who doesn't? The Lions will run the rock down people's throats this year and we held them to 20 yards. Packers don't look all that - we put the sweep on them and the division is ours. Sweet.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Johnny.. that was a burn. Damn, Take that Sd and suck it!!!

Jp, Sd, but I see why you say that, Why did our receivers mess up twice, why did we have so many drops, why did Olsen, Forte, Cutler, fumble the ball?

If it wasn't for those turnovers, we would have had at least 25 or 30 points.

Even after all those mistakes, we still were able to put that many yards? The 50 yard rushing was sad but if we can work chester in more then we will get some yards. But I am all for 172 and two tds receiving from my running back and 50 yards no td.

  • I'm very much with you SD.

Johnny I think the hot waitresses and titties everywhere might have skewed your perception of the game

  • Both statements are absurd when you think about it. I'd rather have 470 yds and 25-30 pts.

  • starting to wonder has there ever been a time where everyone on here had ONLY positive things to say about this team. O/U = hell no

  • Do you keep running when you get shut down? No. You change it or do something different and we did. The screens work and they worked great.

Yes we should have scored more but come on. Did anyone think we would put up that many yards passing? Seriously?

I liked what I saw. Take away our fumbles and Jay throwing an interception then this game would have been a lot different.

We had at least 6 points given if Matt and Olsen do not fumble in the 20 yard line.

We all expect better Sd. I am just glad I saw glimpses of what we could be on the Defense and Offense. We just need a tweak or three to be good.

  • Doc, I get what you're saying but Johnny has a point. IowaBearsFan was completely nuts all game. There were a couple of others but I'm not going to go back and check. I know it's come one, come all, but it does get tedious reading post after post of Armageddon every time something goes South for the beloved. I usually check the blog to get a link to a site (thanks again Celtic Pappy), watch the game and check the blog during commercials. Nothing against any of the posters (except the trolls) but a little bit of restraint once in a while wouldn't be a bad thing.
