Cutty's flesh cannon of sweet death which will impregnate opposing defenses with dread whilst creating fear boners amongst defensive coordinators of the great satan that is GB, Detroit and Minny

First.
Jay: Can we get to a superbowl?
Martz: Can you not throw more then ten interceptions?
10 ints?
I think that is asking A LOT in a brand new, highly complex system. I will settle an average of less than 1 per game and something appraching 2 TD throws per game. If jay can change his TDs to INTs ratio to something along the lines of 27 to 14 or 15, in year one of Martz, I'll take it.
Reprinting from yesterday's late addition:
Of interest tonight...
A) As if a revamped line and brand new system weren't enough, the Bears test their new offense against a 3-4 defense.
B) The NFL has moved the umpire from the middle of the defense to
to the ofensive side of the ball with the referess. An innocuous rule change? Hardly, according to local Tucson radio host, Glenn Parker.
The former University of Arizona, Bills, Giants and Chiefs offensive tackle makes the following interesting points:
1) Receivers will no longer be able to use the umpire to "pick-off" defenders.
2) Defensive lineman will be holding like crazy without the umpire breathing down their backs to see it and that spells trouble for zone blocking schemes.
3) Defenses are likely to get away with more "fake" offensive signal calls because the umpire will now be too far away to discern them.
I hadn't even heard about the positioning change, let alone the possible implications. Thanks, Glenn.
C) Lastly, I HATE the NFL NETWORK's decision but the I suspect they want the Bears and their shiny new free agents and offense in prime time.
"Ouch" Department News: Bye, Bye, Ty.
Patriots lose starting defensive end, Ty Warren, for the season.
Former teammate, Tedy Bruschi, says that is VERY bad news for Belicheat and his boys.
Al,
Which NFL Network decision?
Nevermind. Checked last thread... there goes my Saturday plans.
If Jay gets hurt in any of these pre-season games I'm going to commit hari kari with #16 right behind me to finish me off with the deathstroke from the katana.
Alright boys... deep breath. I am getting very excited too but let's keep it fresh and real in our minds: this is PRE-SEASON. Do not judge the Bears too much either way as a team. Pre-season has no bearing on the real team situation and is meant for watching individuals and setting up the final roster. The Lions were undefeated 3 or 4 years ago in Pre-season and went 4-12 in the regular season. We just need to get through this healthy and get the roster flushed out.
Anyone know where we can find the game online tonight? I know Justin TV had 'em last year but the signal was real in and out.
BOYS AND GIRLS: HERE'S WHERE YOU CAN WATCH THE GAME ONLINE!!!!
http://atdhe.net/
their signals have been on every time i've checked them, but who knows (this game is blacked out). BEAR DOWN!!!!
Sucks ass. Can watch Queens and Fudgies but not Bears.
Figures
Working now!! Yay!
O-line was ok but still bad..
some nice pass plays on the first series. Forte missed a key blitz pickup and we settled for a FG. Nice drive boys.
FQ..I love you. Thanks for the link for video
steltzy inured on the kickoff
Major Dong in the game at FS
Peppers had a nice bull rush. rivers lucky he got that pass off.
There goes the first string shutout.
chris harris late to get over and bowman beat deep
I know this is preseason but this seems awful familiar.
Wth!!!!!! I thought we were going to see starters till the second half..lying bastards!!! alsdfhasldf ha;sldfjh asl;dha asdj
mannelly gets up a little gimpy after the punt coverage
Bears better work on blitz pick-ups real soon...
Can we get Revis? Bowman is not as good we thought he would be and what the hell Harris?
it was one play dude, take it easy.
all right Johnny..this one will slide.
mannelly has a shoulder injury.
reading the Facebook live stream on the Bears website is like poking yourself in the eye. people actually angry that Cutler is not in the game. are you fucking kidding?
is just me or does the O-line not look to good? I was mad a lil.. They said starters would be in till the 2 half.
Thank allah for you FQ, link works just fine. Welcome back football! I'm trying not to take this one too seriously as chester fumbles...
Run blocking not looking too hot.
Neither is the pass blocking
The best player on the Bears does it again, although the Bears choose to decline the points.
RUN GAME SUCKS BALLS
Hanie looks almost as good as Grossman did last night.
Ryan Mathews is going to have a good year with the Chargers.
Wright is making a lot of tackles... more than he should have to.
Major Wright is a PLAYER!
It's obvious the Bears have absolutely no depth on Defense or Offense. One or two key injuries this year, forget about it...
I think all the D is still starting.. Well, can't say Jay didn't do good 2 for 2 to the player I said would get the first catch Johnny Knox.
I didn't get to see the run but Johnny did the run game look better?
Good job MAJOR!!!
not really, but Pisa just had a nice hit, briggsy left his feet and could have had a nice tackle for no gain, peppers just had a nice rush and forced a bad screen pass for an incompletion
He slamed the dude that was going full speed at him..
a yucky Terry Shea-esque Ron Turner inspired WR screen to Hester. not a big fan of getting him hit like that.
Pisa looking strong
How many drives from the first team? 2?
Thank God there is actual football to discuss, welcome back Bears! It became a real chore reading comments from those that questioned every move the front office made from revamping the coaching staff to free agency and finally the draft. I found it funny how some were agitated at the hiring of Martz, claiming that the TE coach from San Diego was a better fit (like anyone had any clue who he was or what his offensive philosophy was). Or better yet, those that complained about our O-line in one breath and then complained about the signing of Manu in another. The best one of all, those that complained about the dismissal of Alex Brown and still found the ability to bitch about how bad the D was a year ago. Facts here people, he was a pass rusher that did not produce a pass rush no matter how much we liked him! Our Bears now have plenty to compete in the NFC and don't be shocked if we see a team that is competative and fun to watch. Our moderator stated it quite well a few weeks back, the Bears are good!
I still miss Alex.
Will the Bears coordinators coach from the sideline during games this season?
John G.
Union City, New Jersey
Mike Martz and Rod Marinelli will both be down on the field, not upstairs in a booth
Awesome.
Fact is, he was the best we had the last couple years. True team player and leader. Fact is, there is no one to take his place. If you think Izzy or Anderson are upgrades over Alex you are delusional. Alex was not supposed to be THE pass rusher, Ogunleye was, and hes the one that never lived up to expectations. We would have had more if we kept Alex and sent Anderson on the road.
I will be on 20yrd line behind bear sidelines for this one boys..haha OH YEA!
Not to be too rude, but this is a blog about bears football right jackass? Why are you here now bitching about all of us who were here in the offseason talking about everything we could?
Just struck a nerve
MB....MY MAN !!
Hope Olin is feeling o.k. Beekman doesn't look like he's up to the job!
if Major Wright isn't starting at the start of season, everybody on defense should be fired....
Assuming Wright's hand is okay...
hopefully the injury to his hand/wrist isn't a serious one. fuck. right when he makes a play too.
Not bitching, just pointing out the negativity that exists around here. For the past six years I have stated my case when the mood has struck, but have come to realize that the commentary has suffered since the transition to the current format. People such a yourself awarding points for comments and teaming up on those that you don't immediately recognize or agree with. Furthermore all you do is bitch about the Bears organization, you don't talk football. Fact is, there are indeed two types of Bears fans out there (something you touched on in the past). Those that bleed Navy and Burnt, who will follow and believe simply because the they are Bears fans. Then there are those that actualy believe that they know more than every other fan and stand behind thier own bais' moreso because it represents their opinion rather than their loyalty as a Bears fan. The latter is where I designate you and yours. Not to be rude.
The off-season is over. We made it somehow. If the bears win the superbowl, I will get a mohawk.
I would love to see Cutty & Co. come out and score a quick TD or 2 in the 1st QTR before sending in all the 2nd stringers and bubble players. Would be great to see Pepper Stepper with a sack or two and a shut out for our 1st string D.
agreed trizzac
I'm listening to the game on my sirius outside on a muggy hot evening. Football is here gents, the future is now.
Do you have your own opinion on anything Bears related or do you just form your ideas based on what others say? Looks like the latter. Some people just aren't creative enough to come up with there own ideas.
1. I questioned the money Manu got and I am concerned with his knee. If he is healthy, we all know that he will help the o-line. Please tell us something we don't know.
2. San Diego's TE coach was discussed very briefly while we still didn't have an O coordinator. Maybe 2 comments were made about him.
3. Alex Brown was the best DE we had last year. Sacks aren't the only statistic to look at for DEs butt nut. He was real good against the run, batted down a lot of balls, and forced the pocket to move by getting in the backfield alot even though he didn't get double digit stats.
4. This is not a debate team, there are no moderators.
5. "The Bears are good!" Thanks for your insight.
If it's a "chore", why the fuck are you reading them? It's a blog.
Glad you have deigned us worthy of your enlightenment?
Hilarious, must have struck a nerve here. Each and every reply here was just as I expected and right in line with what I detailed in my original post. Classic!
Ty Warren. Good news for us. The 10 int would be ideal but I know not to expect it. Just making a comment on the picture is all.
One more point. What is more out of reach? A superbowl or ten picks.
We already set the bar high so, the Bear's better be ready for some high expectations.
Why we should be happy to go to away games,

Shanny is gonna shake up the NFC East.

I'm not going to get too up or down based on what transpires tonight(or what I actually see tomorrow evening on NFLNetwork, which sucks), but I'm thrilled that the boys are back and a part of my weekends from now until at least January, and hopefully longer. My goals for tonight are as follows:
1. NO F-ING INJURIES!!!
That's all, end of the list. Also, as I live in Dallas and they've laid 2 eggs in their first two pre-season games, I'm starting to hear rumblings from the local media down here that if they can't get their O-Line to block anybody, they could lose Romo for the season in week 2 when Peppers, Harris and the boys come to town. That would be SWEET!!! Bear Down.
seriously? that just made me smile :-)
Not sure. I seem to remember everyone on the blog objecting to him being given the job initially.
not a big fan of pre-season injuries to guys like major wright. hope he is ok. note to coaching staff. when our qb's roll out good things happen.
I'm still mad that Riviera got fired. It made me sick to my stomach when they went "all in" with Babich patch.
I know its preseason but with the exception with Major Wright, I'm disappointed. I was hoping to see a glimmer of dominance with our 1st Team D.
pisa is awesome
D.A!!!!!
man, we attack shit in the redzone. i saw a type of planned sprintout by Hanie that Drew Brees does. i like.
lack of effort by Webb results in Hanie injury and a turnover that Webb could have recovered. Not good Webbster. LePew is in.
Rivera couldn't make in-game adjustments. Glad he's gone.
Quentin Scott = bad
we had a 71yd drive
* Shabba be the man.
* Hanie's decision making sucks. Should have grabbed Rosenfels when he was 4th string on the Vikes.
* I hope Beekman just needs a couple of pre-season games to knock the cobwebs off.
* We get to check out Asiata and Louis both at guard! It'll be good seeing a lot of our backups at the various positions.
* Our backup linebackers are duffers. We WILL miss Jamar ...
We'll see this year, no doubt.
Afalava didn't do himself any favors by completely letting that guy block that punt. peece poor effort Al.
Where was Hester and Pepper's?
People say to not read into pre-season but I am not that impressed with our performance.
Peppers only played a couple of series. Hester only had 1 ball thrown his way.
Henry Melton making the most of his chance.
Hanie is a legit number 2. He is a tough mothafucka. Jay would have seperated his shoulder on that sack he took. He's also mobile for his size and has a solid arm. I'm happy we didn't get some old balls back-up that doesn't have anything left.
Major was in on A LOT of plays; run and pass. I like that he was talking shit; kid is confident. Great instincts-he knows where the ball is going. Hope his hand is ok. If healthy, he will start.
C Harris got beat over the top. I read somewhere he said this team is faster than the 05/06 team. I hope he didn't say that b/c he's slower now.
Not good pressure from the D line. The o-line looked makeshift-although Chris Williams looked consistently strong. Not reading too much into this game, but these must improve.
Khalil Bell will be RB#3. He has the most explosiveness out of any back we have. Minor oe Wolfe aren't beating him out.
Like Arosh and the Jay-Knox connect.
Anyone else think Pep looked like Alonzo Spellman in the uni?
Where did all these white linebackers come from?
i think there should be a max number of white linebackers allowed on the field at any one time. Kind of embarassing.
Chargers Cheerleading tryout.
Mindy - your resume is impressive, it says here that you majored in interpretive dance at ASU. That's all well and good but let's see you do the splits and slowly sink down to the floor like you are lowering yourself down onto a manstick.
http://www.screencast.com/t/MWIyZjE2ODM
My daughters will never be cheerleaders...
wrong pic...here is the special one
http://www.chargers.com/media-vault/photo-gallery/Charger-Girls-Tryouts/05d05c82-5ce8-4059-95e4-747e013861e2
i can't even post pictures of cheerleaders doing the splits correctly. I'm like the J'Marcus Webb of posting sex pics.
last post of the night for me.
Webb fucking sucks.
We might be down to just Cutler for qb's. The backups are getting hit hard.
Ryan Grant left the Packers game with a head injury.
after reading all of these posts, a lot of ppl are taking stock into 1 preseason game. that's why it's called P-R-E-S-E-A-S-O-N. my observations:
1) the offense didn't look too bad. the o-line is beginning to gel (hopefully the run blocking will improve, but they need time & reps together)
2) Jay is going to be a beast this year. his decision-making is much improved from last year
3) Major. Wright. better. start. that dude is a fuckin' BALLHAWKING MACHINE!!!
4) Rod is still filling out in picking plays...he'll improve
5) there's a reason why "back-ups" are called "back-ups." if they played like starters, they'd be starters.
not taking too much into this except that it's good they're fucking up now. means (hopefully) they won't fuck up in the season. and the coaches will get them right; expecting to see major improvements against Oakland (and that 1st team D is something serious)
It was nice to see Jay tuck one when ther was nothing doing, last season he would have put it up there. First game of pre-season. No biggie, Tice will play around with the line. Winning games now is meaningless.
After the Bears' first offensive series, Knox had his legs examined by the training staff, and did not return
Now we see what happens when this game is the first full tackling the team has ever seen. Pain and injuries. Hunter out, lots of banged up.
Impressions:
Chris Harris would have been cut by the Panthers. They got something for nothing. A big something, because our depth at LB is not good once you get past Roach and Pisa. I don't really want to see Tim Shaw backing up Briggs.
Omlette was the suck. Forte is no Payton at picking up the blitz. I think I understand why Alfalfa is in Lovie's doghouse now.
Shabba and Knox look good.
It's early, but I don't see an O-line coming together, esp. when it comes to run blocking. The Chargers stacked the C-G gap and made us look foolish in the trenches.
Tice has his work cut out for him.
That's what I saw but everyone keeps saying..Preseason.
Yup, I said it as soon as we lost Jamar, we'll miss him before long. I mean why give the Panthers our best backup?
Shaw says "Don't sweat that special teams sucked."
http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4665504/could-special-teams-be-an-area-of-concern
I am questioning depth in a big way. I think we may start Pisa at WLB, just to have Roach dedicated to special teams. With Anti-Plank with a sprained ankle, we have poor safety depth.
Major Wright has a finger injury. That's not that bad. Dislocated my pinky finger one time popped it back it, put some tape on it ,and we back to playing football. He looked promising
I bet he'd cut that mutha fucka off just like Ronnie Lott if it meant missing a game. i watched him in college and he is just as if not more impressive in his pro debut
I know this was only a preseason game and half these guys will be changing oil at the local Jiffy Lube in a couple weeks but still. This is still football and you still want to have a good performance.
Did we get to the QB at all last night? First team second team, anybody? The pass rush must improve.
How many sacks did our first and second team O-line give up? 7-8? They played like shit and almost got Hanie killed. And the run blocking, not so good.
My biggest concern, the tackling and shedding blocks, the basic fundementals of football. Nobody tackled well exept Pisa last night, oh and Major(impressed by him so far)looked good, but too many missed tackles last night. The defense didn't shed 1 block last night. The ball was snapped and our guys were driven back 2-5 yards back on every play. The coaches need to shore that shit up!
My guess is that Lovie runs one of the most softest camps around the league. No tackling allowed, no two a days, no Oklahoma drill. I asked Chris Harris via twitter if they do the Oklahoma drill and he responds with "Never!, if you can't tackle, you shouldent be in this league" really Mr. Harris no shit? Clearly you haven't been around the last few years cuz the Bears have been ranked near the bottom in defense. Oh and they just reintroduced blocking sleds this year?? Shore that shit up Lovie you boob!
Camp Lovie. Ice Cream for everyone. Then, in the afternoon we all soak our feet and get backrubs!
They say you can't make the Club in the Tub. They haven't been to Camp Lovie! It's the midwest paradise!
After seeing Ep.1 of Jets Hard Knocks, where in the first few weeks there was several hitting full contact drills, and the Green on White game which was a full scrimmage with full tackling - it's quite stark to see the contrast With Camp Lovie.
Rex Ryan is the anti-Lovie. In his opening speech to the team, he dropped 18 F-bombs, shouted and told everyone that only winning the Super Bowl was acceptable and they were there to kick the shit out of all comers. The team was going to be badd-ass physical and if you were a pussy then hit the showers and get your bag.
Hanie looked more like a #3 to me Crown. He either holds on to the ball too long, or makes bad decisions when he does decide to release. I'd rather see a vet back there. Rosenfels went 23/34, 310 yds and 3 Tds, mind you it was against the Rams. Pepe le peu isn't going to help us if we need him either. Hanie could miss some time if his injury is bad, so Pepe could be our #2 now. That's worrying.
Izzy took a knock, so did Wright and Mannelly - are they okay? And how long was Hester on the field? 4 yards from our #1?
also, the San Diego cheerleaders are some of the hottest i've ever seen. i feel tingly. i feel like the only guy on the blog right now.
So far on the offense
10 passing first downs.
0 rushing first downs.
Injured Tommy, injured Brown, injured Vasher, no Tank, beat up secondaries. Now they are all older, and no one to replace those skills. Inside pass rush is the biggest problem.
