Ditka at Just For Laughs

My buddy's site, the comic's comic, has a quick little write-up on Mike Ditka's appearance at Just For Laughs in Chicago.  (You should frequent his site if you're at all interested in the world of stand-up comedy.)

Here is the post from his site in its entirety.

Mike Ditka autographs commemorative plate of him flipping the bird for Da Bears Superfans reunion

Chicago sports fans at the first of two sold-out "Da Bears" shows
Saturday night at Just For Laughs Chicago were treated not only to a
roast of former Bears coach Mike Ditka, but also saw Robert Smigel and
the rest of the famous Saturday Night Live "Superfans"
auction off a commemorative plate with Ditka's picture, flipping off a
fan during the 1980s, to raise money for the Gridiron Greats Assistance
Fund. Turned out that Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster, also in attendance,
offered $3,000 for the plate in exchange for Ditka's promise that he'd
show up to a charity event Dempster is hosting in July.

Ditkaplate
As
for the photo itself, Smigel said the infamous photo was taken in Green
Bay, but Ditka corrected him and joked that the incident happened with
a drunken fan at Chicago's Soldier Field, and added that a member of
the paparazzi inspired him to also make another offensive gesture with
his hands.

Ditka grabbed the plate to sign it and jokingly asked,
"How do you spell Barack?" Of course, back in 2004, Ditka almost ran
against Barack Obama for the U.S. Senate seat in Illinois as a
conservative Republican. If the Superfans had their way, Ditka would've
won and we would be living in an alternate universe. But Ditka didn't
run. Nor did he take a jab at Obama in this autograph.

The JimmyMacs will only draft iconoclasts. A team full of Nick Nolte's from NDF. Or Ryan Leafs, depending on how you look at it.

Unless a player is a mouthy fucktard with authority issues and bad attitude, I don't want him. Felony investigations are optional, but running smack that may or may not get backed up is a must.

Damn, get this... I watched the first 65ish minutes of the Italia game and left it at 1-nil, then had to go to a meeting... just to come back to a fucking 3-2 final. DAMN IT!!!!! Italia and France gone. Damn. Times are a changin.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Italy went up 2-0, and then got bombed for three straight goals.

Watching Netherlands v Camaroon right now. Japan just went up 1 - nil on Denmark.

My company blocked those sweet ass titties..its a shame.

Never played soccer as a kid. I was busy playing baseball, football and hockey so I guess I just don't get it. Boring as shit. I'd rather watch two 90 pound asian dudes playing ping pong than watch the world cup. Especially with those fucking kazoo's on steroids. Every game I keep waiting for a swarm of angry bees to invade the field...

Read that SI vault article on the fridge that Murph posted, and it said he once drank 48 beers after a game in college. That is awesome. I met him once outside of Fogo De Chao in the loop. Shook his hands it was like shaking 5 Brats. He is one big boy.

How fucked up is this: http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/199210-backup-bulger-earns-more-than-flacco

    Also: http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/199330-hester-learning-from-the-best

    Let's hope it works miracles.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Will it help him grow 5 or 6 inches or keep him from going down from a shoe string tackle MB?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Fair's fair MB. Bulger's a vet - he's plied his trade for a lot of years and has earned his chips. Flacco signed his contract so he can't complain. Bulger signed his.

Look at Olsen though, Manu comes in and gets 12 times his salary and he won't have a ball thrown his way all year possibly. He'll be too busy throwing people out of the way for the Matt and Chester show. Sweet. I have a feeling Lovie's going to run it down people's throats this year and take the pressure off Jay. I don't see Lovie as a heavy artillery guy, this Air Martz thing is just a smoke screen. Run, run, screen pass, run, run, swing pass, run, run, Robbie Gould - with an occasional fling downfield to Shabba, Olsen and TDs to Dez tiptoeing along the back of the endzone. Hester and Knox will be too busy running into each other wondering what the fuck's going on.

Hell, put Devin back on returns and give Isaac a job ...

    These crystal balls are great.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That will do it lads. Can't let your opponent off the hook like we did last year.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

We need to breed a FINISHER or two. Way too many blown opportunities this WC. Over all, we did a decent job setting up to score, but we need strikers who seize opportunities and put the ball in the netting.

That and to start playing at the opening whistle rather than waiting until the 15th minute. That I attribute to poor pre-game preparation, whether it is coaching or lack of player leadership or both does not matter.

    I am very disappointed.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Look at you SC. Very nice.

Look, I thought we did incredibly well. When it comes down to it, with one block we could have been on to the next round. Something unheard of for the good ol US of A. I thought they did well overall.

They stated late, gave away silly goals, and had at least 6-10 shots on goal that should have been in the net. Our game just seems disjointed... not sure if that's just because we're Americans playing a 'rest-of-the-world' sport, or because of coaching.

Anyway, can't complain. should be interesting to see if we can parlay this cup's exposure into more soccer popularity and a better side next year.

Ok, well, now that USA and SA are out, I

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Back to some NFL. I have been thinking about Chris Johnson's situation/contract dispute and I don't know about you guys but this is exactly what I think is wrong with our sport. In reviewing the Titans rushing stats over the last 5 years I think it is totally reasonable to say that Chris Johnson has prospered in large part because Tennessee has one of the best o-lines in football. Tennessee has finished 5th, 5th, 7th and 2nd in rushing in the NFL since 2006 and I take issue with a guy trying to stick it to his team over a rookie contract after the fact. Does CJ's contract need to be reworked? Probably. But 30 to 40 Mil worth? The problem as I see is that fair compromises are hard to come by these days and I think it's about time fans hold their organizations accountable and this includes the players themselves. If I am Tennessee, I say "stick it" to CJ and I bring up the next guy in the rotation. This might very well be their stance if CJ doesn't come off his high horse, so fantasy players beware.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

They have a quality backup, Javon Ringer. More than capable of running the rock if CJ gets antsy. Anyone see Total Access when they had a camera in AP's video sessiosn with his RB coach ? He was showing AP video of CJ ! "This is how to have patience before you hit the hole son .." So not even AP's coach thinks he's the best in the NFL.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

So, Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson?

  • In reply to Shady:

    -2 pts for every fumble so that's a no-brainer ...

  • In reply to Shady:

MJD dude. Money in fantasy. Or Rashard Menopause, he'll be all alone in the backfield with fast willie gone. Lesean McCoy and Shonn Greene Ditto. I don't see any love in the drafts for Jerome Harrison, he went crazy last year, seems people think the new rookie is going to steel TDs away from him, ditto TJ taking them off Jamaal Charles. But I think you can still build some numbers with these young up-and-coming guys. People are still drafting like it's 2006.

My value targets will be : Mendenhall, Shonn Greene, Jamaal Charles, Jerome Harrison, LeSean McCoy. Shabba and Chaz Schilens to explode.

Any under-the-radar receivers you guys fancy ?

  • In reply to Shady:

If I set up like a ten-man league on Espn, would you guys go again ?

What round did the Bears DST go in ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Id go again but you should wait awhile before you do it. you know, have the draft in the preseason or something

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

even though i forgot the league draft was yesterday, the CPU actually gave me a decent team (Eli should bounce on back this year). the only thing i hate a/b having a draft a month into TCs is that it doesn't give you a shot to account for injuries, but whatever. may the best man win!!!!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I was playing with my kids, and couldn't make the draft. But I like my team. With the #1 overall pick, the CPU took Chris Johnson over AP, and I woulda done the same. AP is boring. Johnson is a problem.

I have: Johnson, Cedric the Entertainer and Ryan Grant. I have Grant on the block already, he's no felon. I added Marshawn Lynch, Vince Young, Shockey and some others to the bench, I don't want to get thin at RB but may move to pickup Vick. Not perhaps at the expense of Montario Hardesty.

That's an uncoachable team right there. COlston and Crabtree at wideouts are ok, I don't know if either of them are fuck-ups or not.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    count me in Irish

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Ohhhh, no, MB. We can't have any CONTACT in practice. Someone my learn how to properly make a block or a tackle.
    In other news...

West Virginia Fossil, er, Senator, Robert Byrd has died.

    This begs 2 questions:

    1) Will the KKK hold a memorial for one of it's former officers and

    2) Will they have to screw the guy into the ground to bury him?

As Mark Twain once remarked: "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it."

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

All Day AP baby. I also think Bears players will surprise many this year. Last year set a bad trend so everyone is staying away from them this year. Not me though. Great value picks.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

There's bound to be some Bears homers in the leagues. I wouldn't be surprised if Mike Ditka was the only player chosen.

  • In reply to Shady:

Bears homer? That would be me.
Forte, Cutler, and Knox...of course, the comp autodrafted the Vikes defense for me...:(

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Dude ? Knox? Shabba's gonna be a stud, and he's going undrafted in most drafts. Bears Defense is going about rd 15 and Cutler is available usually in round 8.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I don't understand why people have the Vike's defense rated so high, their secondary sucks. Rodgers and Cutler picked them apart last season. Hell, Alex Smith picked them apart ! Another coaching brain freeze from Singletary - why did he give up on the passing game against Minny? He's worse than Lovie.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Actually, DA went about six picks after I grabbed Knox (thanks, Max.)...Vikings D is ranked that high for fantasy purposes due to sacks and Points against...I wouldn't have drafted them but a trip to the grocery store called and the computer has a sick sense of humor.
Cutler will be fine for fantasy purposes as he is the ultimate boom or bust this year. I also am sitting him behind Brady until we know which one it is.

  • In reply to Shady:

What the fuckin shit man, i missed the draft but i got some good ppl though.....

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I apologize for getting rogers... twice. i didnt like any of the running backs at those picks

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Any way to push the first FF league by about 30 min? Won't have access to my laptop until then. Only iPhone. No big deal if you can't.

  • In reply to Joseph:

no sorry, can't change it. you wont be affected much. second have of the draft is where the crucial picks will be.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    +1
He who hath the strongest bench shall prevail. People get too stuck on the importance of QBs - passing TDs are only 4 pts. But stud WRs are like gold dust.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Yeah, we aren't Afrikaaners either Trac. Hmmmmmm biltong. Man, there's nothing like some kudu or gemsbok biltons man. Damn.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I was English South African, not Afrikaans. Still relate to old England, not the England of today I guess.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Tea and Crumpets more so even though I love boravorst and biltong.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

But now that Apartheid is happening in Palestine/Israel it's okay ? Which is it dude ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Uhhhh

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    you're.... and damn double posts.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

than... jebus... I sounded like I was interviewed outside my doublewide. Wish I could say I was on a 6-pack and some xanax. Oh well, so much more proof reading tonight.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I've read Jimmy Carter's 'Peace not apartheid' 4 times. 'The elusive peace in the middle east' Kerr 1975 - so I'm well aware of the history. It's a lot to take in. No one's asking anyone to hand over the running of a government - just give them what they were promised by the U.N in agreement with Israelis, namely Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem. A war they started ? It's their country. The Israelis just rocked up, moved in and went back on all of their promises. They were only asking for the land that the Israelis are bound to provide them. The first President of Israel Chaim Weizman said this - "I am certain that the world will judge the Jewish State by what it will do with the Arabs."

And the world has judged them, and they stand alone, with only the U.S. standing behind them, selling them the arms.

But football is the order of the day, yes .... I just wish we had some to talk about.

Also, read up for my tome on SA for you.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You have to hand it to Mandela though - he never re-offended.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Here, let's lighten up the air a bit. I found this especially for you Irish. It's a movie about your favorite receiving corps: http://movies.msn.com/movies/movie-trailers/?g=7a1ed73c-f42b-4358-8cec-c3fd0575da3e&from=en-us_msnhp

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I clicked on the link and it played the trailer for the adjustment bureau before I noticed the smurfs! A Philip K. Dick movie ! Sweet. Might give the smurfs a miss - unless smurfette is hot.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

You know she will be... with a big blue perky smurf rack.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wow, that was pretty creepy on the reread.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Some pretty interesting, intelligent thoughts from this player doing Peter King's column for him... I think they should can that clown king and give the column to this guy for good.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I like the Cover Who's backup RBs. Rickey Williams and Clinton Portis, those are guys that definitely belong on my team.

I have Ryan Grant and Montario Hardesty to offer.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Trade request filed.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I agree, MB. Yo, Peter, feel free to stay on vacation.

    Frankly, I doubt it.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think you and I share our dislike of SI reporters King and Banks Al. Seems like those guys are speaking jive most of the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhJDvI3gUO8&feature=player_embedded

    (ok, ok, yes

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Watch the first 4 and a half minutes... we actually looked like a real football team at times last year. I'm getting excited, no matter what our record is next year.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uF_Z3IMwevM&feature=player_embedded

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That juke that Knox puts on at 1:34 during the Seahawk-Gatorade-Uniform game was the best move of 2009 season by a Bear. Only a handful of guys make that move and score.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Oh, and 4:21 shows why Bell may not make the Bears this year. Lead legs.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Didn't he score a 72 yard touchdown run on his first ever NFL play ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

nope, got caught from behind... remember, it was 23's man... who he didn't block that caught him.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Yeah, crazy GP. Like he stopped, and jummped back, AND juked to the side... all while going at full-speed.

I remember watching that going, "Holy shit!! What in thee fuck was THAT?!?!?!" and rewinding to look at it like 5 times on the 'ol DVR.

Shit man... we're moving in August and I'm thinking of dropping the $300-$500 on the Direct TV NFL package. Hmmmm... might even be worth it just for the Internet piece.

  • In reply to gpldan:

My highlight is at 1:12 when Urlacher clocks Rogers. Oh yeah!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

watching that made me very excite.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

What the fuckin shit man, i wish i didnt miss the draft cause i got some shit players.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

You got Rapethatburger as backup to Farve, that was a steal. usually suspended guys come back with a vengeance. Williams and Rice are solid backs.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Thats what happens when the ref rips the heart out of a team in a game like this. Changed the whole tempo of Englands play.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Terry's poor free kicks have not helped either.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Naw, Uk's been outpassed and outclassed (see how I did that?)

    Ok, two thoughts:

    1. This is offically the WC BEars blog today. HAHAHA... sorry guys. Trac and I hijacked the blog for a couple hrs. I guess that what this medium is all about, finding guys you share interests with. Chalk one up for technology

    2. UK got embarrassed today. Fuck them, and fuck Wayne Rooney. Limey bastard.

btw, Trac... I keep forgetting to rib you... I wanted to ask you why the Aussies brought their Cricket side to play in the WC this year?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

You can't take David's slingshot away. Not against a team like Germany. That goal the ref took a dive on wrecked the game.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Well, the goal taken away from us did not prevent us from beating Algeria. Of course, Algeria ain't Germany, but we know all England football fans would claim that the USA ain't England either.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I feel like I did when we lost that Atlanta game 2 years ago.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Oh yeah, hard luck against Ghana guys. Going out of a WC is nearly as bad as not getting there.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wayne Rooney took over from Beckham as the most over-rated player in the world. Neither did shit when it counted on the world stage. Chokers. Beckham even got sent off against Argentina!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Seriously though, the referees have tainted this world cup too many times. Very disgusted in them again.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

At least the scored line has woken up Englands offense.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Beautifully set up. Great strike too.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    last half

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ghana will play monkey in the middle until the game is over.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Poor Algore. He figured it bubba can do it, I can.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

yep, too bad he is such a douche. Guy's a fucking statue.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Got laugh at guys like them. They must really hate having the secret service on their backs all the time.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

How bout kick the ball straight at the goalie for the 4th time.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

To fucking Minnsota?!?!? Jebus H Christo Johnny.

Justifyable wife-a-side... self defense really. No way a jurry would convict... not if it's help in Chicago.

Oh, bad joke. Just kidding. I have another idea...

Did you ever see this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO68zwTXFWk

'How could you possibly be expected to handle Minnesota on a game day like this...'

  • In reply to hollywood1:

"What's that, love? You're off to St. Paul? Say hi from me."

Just 2 more spots boys. Come on, almost there.

  • In reply to gpldan:

So you'll be drafting the Cincinnati Bengals, then?

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

It's a shame Marvin Harrison is retired. I could use a crackhead at wideout.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    That mother-f'r is CRAAAAY-ZEEE.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

    Ha!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Best smackdown between a US and UK World Cup fan I've seen in a bit:

To the UK guy: "Hey, if you guys need us to come over there and bail your collective asses out against Germany, you just let us know. We know how to do that."

  • In reply to gpldan:

Didn't McMahon finish last on the first run back at camp one year ?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

It was because he was one biscuit short of 350 lbs. I think that was the number. Could have been 325, but that doesn't sound so big by todays standards.

  • In reply to gpldan:

We still need 7 more teams for ESPN Fantasy Football.

  • In reply to Joseph:

    6 Needing 6 now.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

I know Doc wants to play. MB, Irish, Crown, Jeffie, 85?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Lobo?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Would love to trac, but:

    1. Never been into the fantasy sheite

    2. I gots a job, a wife, a 1 yr old, with one more on the way

... all my 'me' free time goes to Mother Ocean, riding, and running. Sorry lads, I'm sure it will be fun. Thanks for the invite, but I'm you guys get enough of my shit right here anyway.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That's the one good thing about my job, allows me to perfect my teams after I've frakked my draft up. Or picked Greg Olsen...

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Draft time is a no-no. I'm 11 hours ahead.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Watching Ghana vs. Germany to see who the USA is gonna play.

  • In reply to gpldan:

both teams are actively trying to lose. Loser plays the USA, winner plays England.

This is some shit soccer here.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    German pride kicked in.

The US plays Ghana on Saturday, the same team that knocked them out in 2006. Germany v. England on Sunday should also be a fun game, that ought to really get nationalism kicking in the UK.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Look at you GP. Well done!

Ghana... just like the rest of the 2nd/3rd world nations sadly, they don't have the best coaching or resources, just a shitload of raw talent and skill. If you are disciplined and push them hard, go up one or two goals, they tend to let down a bit. It

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Speaking of Ghana, here's two of the greatest goals you'll ever see by Ghana's legendary Leeds United player, Tony Yeboah. Go on the Leeds !

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KxdTwXa23k&feature=related

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Jebus, that second goal was insane. Talk about surgical.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I don't think I can change it nag. Can't seem to find a place where I can actually edit.

  • In reply to gpldan:

RT @Adam_Schefter: Filed to ESPN: The Ravens and former Rams quarterback Marc Bulger reached agreement on a one-year, $3.8 million deal.

    /facepalm

wow. Jerry couldn't get together 3.8 mil? if the Bears do go far into the playoffs, can we get rid of that dickhead there?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

fucken a man. Angelo you are a true fucktard. Is he projected to be in starter contention FQ?

    BTW, Crown

  • In reply to MB30SD:

can't be. Flacco's the guy in B-More (and at 3.8 mil? don't know any starting QB making that kind of money on a good team)

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Oh, jebus Christo... I didn't even read that correctly for some reason FQ. I was thinking the Rams resigned. My bad.

yes, Flacco should be the started there.... uhhh... ahem.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Yeah Crown, Irish was getting up behind his oppressed downtrodden brothers and sisters, and the Imperialists colonisers were all up behind the Israelis, but then it all kinda fizzled out again. But now it's interesting again because it looks like we might get some FF leagues going and FF rocks.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

I fkn knew it. The old bird said : 'here's 140 Million Jerry you spastic fuck, don't spend it it all in the one shop'. And because he knows he's outta here at the end of this season for being an incompetent clueless bullshitter he decided to blow it all on 3 guys in their thirties as a final f-you to Bear fans. F-you Jerry, F-you very much. It sickens me that our team's destiny can be placed entirely in the hands of a cum receptacle swill swallowing mommabanger like Jerry Frakkin Angelo.

    Alan Faneca, T.O., Marc Bulger.

"Hey Bears, Billion dollar organisation ... got a spare couple of million to buy yourself some decency?"

    Bears : "Nope."

  • In reply to gpldan:

My grandfather has that same picture signed by Mike Ditka but he quotes the pic like this "Fuck the Packers, Mike Ditka" lol love that autograph picture, hopefully my grandfather will pass it down to me..

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

How did Mongo ever play for the Packers ? How did that ever come to pass? I wonder about Mongo. Come to think of it, how the hell did McMahon ever go to play for the Packers? Were those two guys peeing in our faces or what?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

On third thoughts, did Mac ever play WITH Cjharles Martin ? How do you do that ? Wtf ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Mac never played with Martin as Martin was out of the league for about 8 years at that time. The incident happened in 1986 and the McMahon went to GB in 96.
Mongo ended up in GB because of Dave Wannstad. Wanny wanted to dump all of the old Bears, and he wanted to make room for the great Carl Simpson. Fuck.....

  • In reply to Crowned:

MB, If New Zealand beats Italy they are in and the Italians go home. Would make things interesting.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I assume you mean Solvakia, tomorrow... right Trac?

  • In reply to Crowned:

    yeah, get well soon Fridge.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I'm in, but I tried to go back and it named my team "Team Murphy" how can you change the name? I'm thinking ya can't

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

Got the name changed and went with the blog name so you know who is kickin your ass Trac.

  • In reply to iamndmurff:

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

As of a couple of minutes ago there's still 4 slots left for FF League available.

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

I'm debating whether or not we should make it a rule not to play any Fudgehead players.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    joined

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I don't think I'll be getting up at 4 a.m. to join that methinks. I guess we could set up a bunch of teams - I normally go with about 15 a season.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

God has blessed them Irish. Look it up.

  • absolutely, I loved it last year

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

Yeah, we need more teams than last year...my squad was putrid up until the playoffs began.

Not impressed with New Zealand's goalie. Kicked 2 balls out of bounds in 2nd half alone. Half the NZ players have grey hair. Hope they can pull it off.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Paraguay is good. If they win I wouldn't be surprised if they make it to the Semi's.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Sorry for all the postings guys, I'll give it a break.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Joined the 2nd FF team. Irish, MB??

  • In reply to Joseph:

Read up Joe. Irish is in, and FF just isn't my thing. Thanks very much for the invite though. You guys get enough of me on one website I imagine. Should be fun to see who comes out on top.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I think he started his own. MB, I thought the same thing about FF. Then I tried it a couple years ago and never looked back.

  • In reply to Joseph:

I'd be fucking horrible at it anyway Joe. I don't have the time or the patience. I have serious ADD... according to my wife.

  • In reply to Joseph:

I've just realised I have to go and rate every offensive player in the NFL and check their schedules for the year. I forgot how much work was involved ....

  • In reply to Joseph:

    http://freemeeting.0.football.cbssports.com/splash/invite/6998/404203

Need 8 more players or the league gets disbanded ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Sounds like you should have had a V8 Irish.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Watching Portugal playing Brazil. Top Notch.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Total shit and everything that is wrong with soccer. They knew they were progressing, so neither wanted to show the attacks they had - and so we get 0-0 tie.

It's as bad as the Colts throwing away the shot at the perfect season for no reason.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Strategy GP, strategy. Kinda like playing for overtime. My top notch comment was directed at the ball skills of the players on those two teams. Amazing skills.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Agree with you both (imagine that)... understand why they did it, but wasn't that interesting a game to watch. Trac, in past years Brazil's ball skills have been much more showy. I think most teams in this year's cup has been very, very utilitarian/functional... not too much of the beautiful game going on. Been awesome though.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wait till the knockout stage. You ain't seen nothing yet.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Precisely Trac. Argentina will provide us with what we've been missing. Messi will give us a signature goal I hope.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

looks like CBS league got disbanded Irish. Join Da Bears Bloggers 2. Even if you miss the draft you should still get decent enough players and it would be good to have you. I missed a draft last year and ended up winning the league through skill and knowledge with shrewd moves during the season. Picked up Miles Austin who ended up putting me over the top.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

By the way, did anyone see Japan's 2 goals from free kicks the other day? Lucky S.O.B.'s.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Acually, fantastic shots both. Especially the second one.

Japan was to me the most fun team to watch in the entire thing. Disciplined, yet creative.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Only about a MONTH until training camps open!

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

Yup. Can't wait for Larry's reports on how Olsen is catching everything thrown at him, how Rashied Davis is pushing for a place and how good Jarron Gilbert and Mr. Melton are looking.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

lol. And how Omilaye and Kreutz are having a resurgence though the amazing coaching of Mike Tice.

  • In reply to Joseph:

    Fuck Soccer

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

    hmmmm.... dissapointing Coach.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

This might change your mind: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010_swimsuit/painting/melissa-satta/

  • In reply to MB30SD:

She's totally hot but I'm still not down with soccer. Oh well. I hate basketball too. I make up for it with the NFL, NHL and MLB in that order. My fave is bicycle racing but that's because biking is my passion. Most people would rather have a root canal than watch bicycle racing.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Did you... never mind. I was about to ask if you caught any of the tour de California. Duh.

I'm totally down Canada. Love watching Le Tour every July. And any Triathlons I can catch.

Soccer AND bike racing... Damn, it just donned on me that I'm a bonafide Ren-ay-saunce man! Yee Haw.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Unfortunately the only racing I see is the Tour. The cable system doesn't carry any other races. I used to watch the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) on the Italian channel but it's no longer part of my pkg. It used to drive my wife nuts to listen to the announcers in Italian. If you think Phil Liggett gets excited in a bunch sprint, you ought to hear the Italians. Totally nuts.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I catch the GI when I stumble upon it Canada. VS (the channel) carried it last year if memory serves.

Too bad Canada doesn't offer the premium package to everyone for free. HA! Get it? Like healthcare... get it?

    Ok, yeah, I know...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It's not exactly free. Taxes are higher and booze and tobacco are about double the cost vs the US. However, I have to laugh at the conservative talking heads in the US. They always bring up somebody from Canada that hates the health care system. If you asked 1 million Canadians if they would give up their health care, you would get 1 million no's.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    I'm with you Canada.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

lol i know man what the fuckin shit man! hopefully the old bastard can produce, haha dam this will be the only time i actually go for Farve.....

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

If Farve really goes home, you can still pick up neckbeard on the wire...

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

MB, holy shit. You have Brady and Cutler, and you're gonna start BRADY on Week one against the Lions?

  • In reply to gpldan:

Sorry I meant "Brady instead of Cutler" there.

And you have Matt Ryan. Well, you are certainly primed for a sweet trade against all these teams carrying one QB.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    What in THEE hell GP?

Trac... did you pick a team for me? Common man. Stop trying to get me to try crack... first one's free, hooked for life. Or are you just messing with me GP?

It's bad enough that my buddy is pushing me to get the new UFC AND Modern Warfare games on PS3 so we can fuck each other up long distance over an interweb connection.

Have some decency... we're having another baby in mid Nov!!

    Bench Braylon Edwards, NYJ WR
    Bench Donald Brown, Ind RB
    Bench Vince Young, Ten QB
    Bench Visanthe Shiancoe, Min TE
    Bench Toby Gerhart, Min RB

I know I took Adrian Peterson, but how can you not? Either way I'm relatively sure he's destined to fail now that he's on my team. I think the rest of my team is pretty solid including my K Robbie "Solid" Gould.

  • In reply to Shady:

I have the Steelers D as well. SI has them at #9 overall. They are going to generate turnovers.

CPU send me Vince Young as well. I will probably waive him for somebody else, I think he totally busts out this year.

  • In reply to Shady:

My second team is even better and I'm proud to say not even one peckerhead in the lot. Ahem, Doc.

  • In reply to Shady:

I caught it MB. I wonder if bellacheat and harbaugh run contact scrimages

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    you know they do trac.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Sorry boys, don't buy that shit. How many fucking accountants do you know that don't run books or day traders who only trade 4 times a month, or moms who only mother once a week...

Ok, ok... so we're talking about black and white to make a point. There is obviously a lot of area between Payton's coach's practices, and Lovie fucking Smith

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    they = other teams

  • In reply to Shady:

i don't think many teams are itching to have more contact than necessary. it is just a simple matter of physics. The bigger and faster the players get the more injuries that will occur. The faster and more violent the cuts made on the field the greater likelihood of knee and hammy and quad injuries. These guys don't need lessons in tackling at this level. Maybe Steltz and Payne need a little direction about not drilling their own players and deflating peoples lungs (tilman) or almost breaking someones arm in half (briggs)but everyone else just needs technique work. maybe it's just me but if a coach got a star player hurt in practice they would be run out of town on a rail. Practice? Practice? We ain't even talking about a game...we talkin bout practice...practice...practice man...practice

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I'm with you Johnny. Payton was talking about second tier college ball 40 years ago, not the modern NFL. And although bodies are much bigger, faster, and collide more violently than ever, there has been no major upgrade in durability of human tissues.

Yeah, they make a lot of money. But they are people too. Some fans might consider a rerun of North Dallas Forty. Especially the speech by the lineman about them being nothing more than pieces of equipment in the eyes of management. And to a lot of fans too, it would seem.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Nobody's asking anyone in other training camps to smash the fuck out of the guy they're tackling. There's a difference between trying to kill a guy and just wrapping him up. It was clearly the difference between us going to the playoffs or not.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

nah fool, fantasy football, i need a RB

  • In reply to Mastodon:

Interesting article from Pat Kirwan on the increase in popularity of the spread offense :

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d818e0966&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true

Good pressurizing teams are stepping up their blitzing around 20% inside the red-zone. Apparently, running the spread should take the pressure off Jay in these situations.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

or is anyone up for another league

  • In reply to Grizzly559:

Yup - and even if I can't be up for the draft I'll rank my players and strategy for the auto-pick.

Well, this would be different than Turner - who seemed to feel that first downs were only 'nice to have' items and seemed happy to keep our punter working.

i got so used to seeing 2nd and 9 for so long that i don't know how i will feel to see 1st and 10 and then another 1st and 10 right after that. i think my head will explode. oh, hold on, i have to change my Bears Kool Aid IV drip...okay, i'm good. PEPPPPPPPPPPPPPERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Are you ready for Bears games in November at home with scores like 41-35?

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I thumbed through the issue of SI fantasy Football Guide at 7-11 while getting some zigzag papers and a big gulp.

the bears DST is rated LAST, with a splash page saying "stay away from these guys, the D is old and Hester hasn't seen the endzone in 2 seasons for PR"

What a downer. Fucking Jets bandwagoners, even talking about Ryan's tummy tuck.

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP, every time I read shit like that I get all fired up at first, then I stop and think... 'fuck, they're probably mostly right sans the media hyperbole and drama. Damn man.'

This is what the Lovie/JA/TP era has brought us to. I'm still optimistic that it could go either way this seasons, and that it will be fun and exciting to watch us regardless of how our record ends up... but man, the bottom line is still that the management we

Cedric the Entertainer, being informed of his draft status on the Mel Blount Smoke team of perennial fuck-ups, decides hey - I gotta hold up the team rep here and gets his loud mouth arrested in Austin Texas, site of many a Benson altercation.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

you feel sorry for Tiki? fuck dude. he deserves everything coming to him. let's forget about how he talked BAD about the Giants the year after he retired & they won the Super Bowl w/o him. let's forget a/b his smile and how it can come off as very condescending & rub ppl the wrong way. HE CHEATED ON HIS PREGNANT WIFE OF 8 MONTHS TO START BANGING OUT A 23 YEAR OLD INTERN! fuck Tiki Barber.

    Keep it Classy Benson!

Angelo just blew a load in his shorts. Makes him look more or less justified for getting rid of that shitsack

What a douche. I suppose it was just the white guys on the Bears that were mean to him. Jeez. Gimme a break.

Totally random - check out Melissa Polinar on Youtube. I just came across her today. Writes her own stuff and has an amazing voice. I'm going through all of her songs and haven't found one that sucks. This girl deserves to be huge.

O.K. Irish, I'm in. So far only you and me. Is it open only to us of Irish descent? Come on bloggers, jump in. The draft is tomorrow so ya'll better hurry up!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    I'm in.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

On the tackling thing, sorry, fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

These guys are practicing 'not tackling' so that in a real-game situation when they're homing in on a ball-carrier their brains are sub-consciously preparing to 'not tackle'. And these guys most certainly *do* need to be taught how to tackle based on fucking embarrassments like Hunter Hillenmeyer and the Bears worst ever defense last year. They certainly need to practice it.

How does a cyclist train ? Do they spend all their time in the gym and never go out on the road 'because they already know how to ride a bike?' Of course not! Dudes need to tackle to feel what tackling is like, to repeat it for muscle memory, over and over until it feels like second nature. You practice what you're going to do, not practice what you're not going to do. It's fucking stupid and so is Lovie ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And I'll bet you a dollar Brian Urlacher broke that bone in his wrist because it went into deep shock when he had to tackle somebody. He hadn't used in seven months except to write the CS cheques ...
