DaBearsBlog Interview: Devin Hester

I just finished my first player interview with Devin Hester.  I was nervous and took some time to get my feet under me but I'm looking forward to bringing you more of these all season long.

    Adrian?

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

    Jefe!!! very nice..

I must say listening carefully I heard a pause in DH's (probably think out what the company line is) voice right after you asked about LDL response of him taking KR's and that it is really about getting the ball in his hands..right?

I believe in KR's you recieve the ball so wouldn't that account for "The Ball in his Hands"? So what LDL is really subscribing to is that " I really want to save face so I will stick with the Heckyl/Jekyl Experiment no matter how bad it goes.

LDL Your useless as a HC!!!

trac..tired of your old avatar allready?

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I wanted to originally have a butkus name and avatar but I thought that would be too ballsy of me. I would never be able to live up to a Butkus name and avatar. I'm temporarily using this awesome pic for my avatar though.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Go for it Trac, I dare you. A nice shot, no helmet maybe. Living up to your heroes is what heroes are for man. I'll never be Sweetness but he's my inspiration in life. Work yourself to realise your potential. Have fun. Never give up, never give in. Don't allow yourself to be tackled, hit them first. Don't run out of bounds, lower the head and chest them full force, take someone with you if they want to get it on. No way through ? Jump over the top. There is no off-season. Never die easy !

I dare you man. Butkus name. Butkus Avatar. Do it.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

That's what I like to do Irish, "Punish the man".

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    The way it is!!!!!!!!

Lets jump forward 1 year to the Ghost of Christmas Future with Clown master Lovie at the helm.

Lovie is just a bad memory.
    JA commits suicide.
Cowher turns down the Bears offer, says he doesn't have 5 years to rebuild.
    Hester is moved to CB.
Chester Taylor replaces Matt Forte as starting RB.
Julius Peppers and Tommie Harris are stranded on a desert Island when their boat is blown off course during a freak storm on a fishing trip and are never heard from again.
Rod Marinelli is promoted to HC and Mike Martz has a nervous breakdown when Cutler demands a trade.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I like #2 a lot. And we trade Cutler to the Vikings, where he's re-united with Lance Briggs and Jamar Williams. Urlacher's not the same since he and Olsen announce their engagement after the SF game.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Our boy Roy is back and breaks down Chris Williams after moving to LT and dealing with Jared Allen, and big stone stout 10% alcohol.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Thanks Irish, I always like to see Roy breaking it down.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The only question I have is, "does Miami need a tight end"?

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/13/dolphins-shopping-ted-ginn/

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Ginn is as soft as 2-ply charmin. Just what we need, another guy who really works out as a kick/punt returner...

  • In reply to gpldan:

    Is he a smurf too?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Pretty much.

They list him as 5'11" 180. Which means 5'11" 180... standing on a phone book in soaking wet sweats.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I had that dude in fantasy FF, and for a supposed #1 WR I don't think he ever had a single good week. We're good for return men ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Probably because he only had 1 TD all year.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

If we can get him for maybe a 5th or 6th rounder he might be worth it.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Waste of a draft pick Trac, the guy sucks and we're short on picks. At 5'11 180 you'd better be damn good to make up for the lack of size. Rashied Davis is better than Ginn. Angelo had better be making a play for Marshall. If they don't think he's worth at least a second rounder then their heads are up their arses and anyone on this blog could do better ...

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Robinson Peppers and his man Butter!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

So, Steeler Fans, we've got good news and bad news on
Ben "I can't keep it zipped" Roethlisberger.

    First, the Good news.

The Georgia District Attorney has announced he will NOT be filing charges against your "..not the brightest bulb in the box" Quarterback.

    The Bad News?

In the course of making that announcement, the D.A. basically called your "Big Ben" an Immoral Pig and intimated that he really would have LOVED to gone after him hammer and tong.

I believe in his old Saturday Night Live days, Dan Ackroyd would have summed it all up with the phrase: "Ben, you ignorant slut".

PS: Charges or not, now that Steeler management has opted to drop Santonio "Hero of Super Bowl 43" Holmes like he was RADIOACTIVE(they now say they'd have RELEASED him if they hadn't been able to trade him), don't they HAVE to drop some kind of disciplinary action on "Pig Ben" lest they come off looking like a bunch of racists if they don't?

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

you're in good company Al: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/morning-jolt/04/13/bradshaw-roethlisberger/index.html?eref=sihp

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Trac, that is like the worst nightmare, I could imagine. please tell me it isnt so!! GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Seriously, fellow Bear Fans. Who do you think the Bears will sign and draft this year?? Lets get some opinions flowing here. There are still some moves to be made between F-agency and the Draft!! Who becomes a Bear??

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Y'know what BF - I don't even care anymore. Angelo will draft the Goonies and Smith will make them march in different directions. No Marshall and no interest in Atogwe or any other vet safety. And let's go with a LB who spends half his career injured because he might weigh 230 lbs soaking wet and deal our young future pro-bowl stud in JW. Thanks Jerry. You Packer fan.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

That's Lovie's biggest problem Lobo, failure to admit when something didn't work out and to put things back the way they were. There's no shame in admitting you were wrong as long as you vow to do it right. That's progress. That shows you can adapt. If Lovie wants the ball in his hands more, good, kick it to him more. We have plenty of guys, no one thinks Hester needs to be on the field every play - he's a liability in the run game anyway. Our D can't play worse than it did last year - not with Urlacher back and Julius on the line. So how many KOs would Devin be required to run back in a game ? He's paid a king's ransom. Make him earn it. He wants his records and he's entitled to them. Let him be great at what he's best at.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    amen...irish...amen

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Fuck Jeff how come you didnt let us know this was comin? but fuck it... GOOD WORK>...I havent heard yet cause my lady is asleep and i dont feel like hearing her bitch...But i will listen in the morning

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

Out of respect for Da Blog's 1st interview guest I though I would change my avatar. Thanks for comin' out Devin!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

What a great player for a first interview too ..

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

HAHAHAHA, I guess it didn't "take". My bad sweet cheeks!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Matty..kind of like the old avatar (two hamhocks) better..lol!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

So LDL is this why you don't want him on KR's

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0vFhKsTnwU&feature=related

    yeah I figured as much....

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I hate our coach. And yes Wanny and Jauron are worse. I hate them more.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

holy shit. that's wassup jeff....good stuff indeed

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

So LDL is this why you don't want him on KR's

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0vFhKsTnwU&feature=related

    yeah I figured as much....

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Holy Cow lobo. How did we go from returning the opening kick to fumbling and bumbling our way to losing that game? Such a shame.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

We have a coach who's lost in space.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Losing to Turtlehead Manning was the worst. Giving him his one and hopefully only ring was agony. I wanted to see him retire as a ringless regular season wonder who specialised in choking. I still can't believe he got MVP in that game.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Never will get tired of seeing that Lobo. I was in a bad motorcycle smash and had to sign myself out of hospital to watch the super bowl in a friend's house. Broken bones, my mouth stitched shut, the whole nine yards. But seeing the opening kickoff was worth it. I couldn't speak or shout but I could cry with happiness and pride. Awesome.

For sheer emotion, this is the clip of the kreturn I like best. The Wild Goose bar in my spiritual home, Chicago.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFTo85UfBeE&feature=related

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Holy sheite Irish. Stay off the bikes man... fucking death rockets.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I tear up every time I see his return.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I also tear up when I see the guy yelling in Devin's ear after the play. Especially given our need at safety.

  • In reply to Mastodon:

SC... I thought the same thing after watching that clip.. Good Lord we stink at understanding our talent....why?

  • In reply to Mastodon:

I forgot about Chris Harris. Guy has been a stud for the Panthers and we are stuck with Steltz and Afalava

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

WOW!!! love it..sad part is from that point on our spirits sank to the bottom of the tank and we haven't recovered yet.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

holy shit. that's wassup jeff....good stuff indeed

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Windy City Flyer...If you are reading this thread about you I can tell you that everyone on this blog thinks you are fire when the ball touches your hands...just wish it was on KR's. I think you have a gift and for some reason LDL wants to cover your light with a bushell basket...

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Yeah Lobo: Hester Will be on Fire this year. I just hope he gets some chances at Kick returns as well as punts!! Martz should be able to make Hester & Knox stars this season at receiver, Just Sayin.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Bf..that's what I'm saying let him return to old form and fire up this team!!!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF...not if LDL has anything to say about it..ugh...$!#@$!@$#

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    Fuckin A, Lobo. Fuckin A.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

    Kudo's, Jeff!

"BLOGFATHER CHASES DOWN 'WINDY CITY FLYER'!"

    How's THAT for spin?

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hey Jeff, did you ask him if he or any of the other players have heard of or reads Da Blog?

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

    Jeff-

Nice job on the interview man.

And on behalf of all bears fans THANK YOU for not letting him off the hook and having him ADMIT that he also wants to get back there and return kicks..

    Keep it up man.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Oh and Thanks D Hest for taking time out to let the REAL fans here your voice...

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Fuck Yea Jeff! Congrats man! Keep'em coming

  • In reply to Joseph:

The Great fans, are leaving Great responses for JEFF! I am sure he appreciates it and will return the love to each and everyone of you!! Great Job Jeff, Thanks!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF, I say this with all the love possible...

    You're one a strange dude.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, I am a one a strange dude? I get it, ha,ha. But I am a bit old and too mature to be called a dude. By the way, I was wondering what makes me strange, when I am complimenting Jeff & the other Bear fans here(including you)? Life is tough, dont sweat the little things, kid. Just sayin, cause you seem to have problems with an awful lot of people. No offense, as I like most of your responses and you add alot to the blog. Dont let small trivial issues get to you. I learned that when I became Disabled suddenly. I view things alot differently now. Take care & God Bless!

  • In reply to Joseph:

Salami Balogna Salami Bologna all Praise El-Hefe.

You know watching you and your blog over these last several years grow to these levels where you are a bonafide (I said bone) media guy has been a pleasure and here's to hoping that DH passes it out to some of the other players to get you even more connected. Bravo dude bravo!

Oh yea and the youtube reminder of DH's Super Bowl TD was another reminder of losing a good player in C. Harris, just saying.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Hey Jeff, are you o.k? Just worried about you man. You used to interact with the bloggers here consistently, but now we dont see ya very much anymore, are you o.k?? Great job on the article here, We just dont see you anymore, just makin sure it is all good, and your old lady hasnt toned you down or anything, ha,ha.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

about the kick game....have him and johnny knox back there. pick your poison.....damn Lovie....are you THAT retarded?

  • In reply to FQD1911:

FQD....LDL is a moron as a HC....or some may say mentally challenged!!

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Very nice Jeff, way to be direct and not a spineless worm like Larry Mayer and the rest of the media. Try to get an interview with Tommie Harris and ask him if he going to place this year with his head in his helmet and not up his ass the whole season. Keep it up Jeff!

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Congrats Jeff! Great interview, you sounded like a vet. I expect big things from the Skunk in his second year as full time WR. Funniest part was Devin saying he's "getting ready to twitter a photo shoot. It's gonna blog and gonna show on my website."
He's keeping it old skool like his ride.

    Dude! Crown!

That thing is siiiick. Fo Sho.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

He stole that off Antonio Fargas.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Way to go "BlogFather!" Thanks to Dev for takin' the time to answer questions and hopefully he'll pass the word to the rest of the guy's that we'd love to hear from them and their thoughts as to they think is going on. Wouldn't it be the "Shiznic" if some of the players would get on here and set a few of us on the strait and narrow! I could dig it!

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Great job Jeff(kudo's). That was a great job, no worries man. I think it is obvious Devin wants to return more kicks, if I were him I would too. I personally would like to see Hester do somemore kick returns, instead of just Punts! Maybe I am in the small majority, but I definitely want him in at receiver. Slot is fine, but he is dangerous with the ball, and it makes sense to keep the ball in Devins hands. He can score at any time. I dont want him sitting on the bench, when he is capable of so much more on offense as well, just like he is on kick returns. Turner just could not take advantage of the players strength's, obviously. He was confused and brain dead, I guess.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

It would be silly not to put him in at WR now, he's been learning it for years. Just no more bubble screens, route one. Cutler to Hester. Touchdown.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Hear here.

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Great job fans, hopefully Jeff reads all the positive responses left for him from all you great fans, great job guys! I am sure Jeff will respond to each one of you with thank you's and appreciation from all the support, great job fans!! I would be shocked if Jeff didnt feel the Love here! So he will return all the love, as he is a great fan, like the rest of us. GO BEARS.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Exactly, man. It's the off-season and tempers are frayed. It would look to the casual observer that we're all haters, but it's about love at the end of the day.

    Charlieeee. Charlieeeeee!

    Damn.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Chaaaarrrrrllllllliiiiieeeeeee

    100 points

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB...you cut me to the core..lol!!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I know you're starting to come around to the unicorn Lobo. Stop fighting it.

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

Excellent Jeff ! Straight into it ... Kickoffs !

  • In reply to PhantomOne:

Congratulations Jeff!! Awesome interview, no way in hell would Larry Mayer ever drill him about the return game like that. Its so obvious that he wants to return kicks, why don't we let him?

  • "We have time still; we don't have to play tomorrow. So maybe having a position not solidified the way we would like for it to eventually be

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB..there is a difference between negativity and honesty..I think you are under the latter of the two!! I AGREE 100% +100

  • In reply to MB30SD:

They're the ones being negative MB, they're the ones trying to put three pin plugs into two pin sockets and think the rest of us don't notice. We've had a Jim Finks so we know what a good team looks like. We had Coach Ditka, so we know what a team that is responsible for its actions looks like. We knew that if somebody wasn't pulling their weight they would hear about it in a way that either turned them around or put them on the bench. It's not negative to tell your dysfunctional family that you'd like them all to go to Disney World is it ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Thanks Irish. No, no it isn't.

And I do, I do want them to go to Disneyland... forever.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Wow, Jeff! I'm proud and excited for you! You're living the dream. The unofficial Chicago Bears fans' spokeperson.

    Good job.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Wow, Jeff! I'm proud and excited for you! You're living the dream. The unofficial Chicago Bears fans' spokeperson.

    Good job.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Jeff, that was great. To have a format where a Bears fan asks the questions that the fans want answered is excellent. Usually we get with what some media flack thinks will make a good story. I really hope you get to do more of these. I'm betting the players would like the idea as much as we fans do. Interviewing a few of the coaches would be pretty interesting too.

    Congratulations Jeff, just great.

  • In reply to mikev:

I can't imagine a Lovie interview though. I mean, where would you start ? 327 sledgehammer questions in 8 minutes ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Jeff could ask whatever he wanted, he'd get the same Marketing Department-approved toe the line propaganda bullshit

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Blank stares at the jumbo tron...classic!

  • In reply to Joseph:

    J..LOL!!!!!!

  • Way to bag an interview with DH Jeff, congrats.

Having said that, were there guidelines set by Devin for the interview?

Would have loved to have heard what he thinks of Manu.

  • Just time. Needed to get it into an 8 minute window.

  • In reply to JeffHughes:

Kudos on the interview thing Jeff. No trace of Larry Meyer there, Devin was on the ropes ! Looking forward to more.

  • Whats with the weird fashion and Elephant pokin pics up top. Guys becoming gals, Yikes.

  • Bitchin'! Nice work Jeff!

  • Baaaaahahahah... Doc, did you check the "wife button' in the header? Classic!

  • Well done Jeff. I thought you sounded relaxed in the interview. Thanks to Devin for taking time out to talk with you

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Polls would be excellent. That's where it's at. I have no idea how many hits this blog gets, but it would be interesting to see polls on some key issues. Position battles. Trade this player or that ? Target this player or that in a trade ... give up a first for this guy ?

Getting Urlacher slightly drunk would make a great interview. I wouldn't have any questions for Jay, just "Are you having enough sex?" "Have you got enough money?", and just pass on our love letters and man crushes ...

  • NO.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Don't get me wrong, they let us have our moment's from time to time. It's the way it is Doc.

  • Absolutely not on LDL, give Dave Toub a call. I loved the field goal attempt returns for TD's and such. I could come up with 100 questions to ask him.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

1st question: Do you miss Devin being on Special Teams fulltime?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    trac...right on track with that!!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Good call Trac.

  • Well done doc. 100 points.

Yes, hos get boring... ask Tiger... or Tikki the torch.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Tiki Barber. Here's the deal. Is it his ?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Aside - just finished watching Playmakers (ESPN). Was there only 11 episodes ? There's got to be a twelfth, that was some anti-climax man. Great show though. Showed me if you keep your mouth shut and work hard you can make it in the NFL. Ced Benson = Demetrius Harris. Leon Taylor = TJ.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

except demetrius harris had some skills to back it up. ced benson? curse of the sophomore jinx (what a fag)

  • +1
Saying you don't return kicks anymore because they didn't kick it to you ? That's kind of the aim. I'll take the ball at the 40 any day. Well, he's got to tow the line with the club I guess ...

  • Wow. You know what Doc, I was about to type that exact rephrasal on the last thread and then I thought better considering a lot of you guys are married and I didn't want to go there. I don't think I could ever get married. I have a great gf who has given me carte blanche for extracurricular activities, but you what, I haven't gone there. Her giving me that freedom and understanding of a man's impulses has made me love her even more.

But damn, if I was still drinking I'd be nuts deep in some ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Tiki Barber is a punk. It was always about him and he never fooled me for a minute. Most people saw him for what he was.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I definitely agree with you on Tiki. I never liked the guy, there always seemed to be something behind that smile of his. But that is in the past, in the dumpster & forgotten.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I was reading an article this morning about us being over loaded on tight ends at 4. Some predict that Dez Clark, could be the odd man out. I would not approve of that move at all. Apparently Dez has been sitting out of voluntary workouts. This may or may not signal anything, but it is interesting. If we dont carry a full back, then we can keep 4 T.E's & Martz's offense does not feature a full back anyway. Pompei said he didnt envision anymore veterans being released, but Dez holding out is making me wonder. I know it is voluntary, but apparently just about every player is there this year, except a handful of players. I like Dez, he brings it every game, he blocks, catches and brings experience and leadership to the group.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

We've got two FBs. I like Ta'ou'fu, he looks like a baller. Dez is gone no doubt. Sad, but so is mgmt.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Speaking of Tofu, that guy is like a thick tree trunk, he is solid.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Tofu - I like it. The nickname, not the crappy food replacement.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

This is really a Win-Lose season, if you think about it. If we win & go to the playoffs thats a win, but we lose because the stooges remain in power. Then if we lose this season, we will win by getting Cowher in here. Just Sayin. This is going to be an interesting season. If we stay healthy I think we will be in the playoffs. There still is that issue at F-Safety though. GO BEARS!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

No interest in going to the playoffs unless we win the bitch BF. Playoff appearances are for tools like Peyton Manning to get excited about. Lombardis are the only thing that counts pour moi.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish,Really? No interest in going to the playoffs, unless it nets a Lombardi trophy? Well you are certainly entitled to your opinion. This fan definitely wants to go to the playoffs every year. Once you get in, it is a new season and anything can happen. I would love to win the Superbowl every year, but that is not going to happen. The first goal is to get in the playoffs, then try to win it all. Peyton has shown he doesnt dominate in the post season, but at least he gets to the post season, alot better than going 7-9, 8-8 every year? Being a fan is alot more fun when you are winning games throughout the season & reaching the playoffs. A Super Bowl or Bust outlook will make for stressful & frustrating seasons, year after year. But I agree with you, I want the Big prize as well, as do all the players and fans alike. Remember Herm Edwards quote on winning when he said "that is why you play the game". Just Sayin.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

That's my point - look at Peyton Manning going to the playoffs every year and what's he got ? A bunch of chokes and a SB win that had nothing to do with him. He sucked. Give me a Lombardi over ten playoffs in a row any old time. That's all that counts.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/04/barnes-get-private-workout-for-bears.html

I like the way they're thinking, draft another midget receiver, but a slow one, y'know ... to throw off the DBs ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The Al Davis model of picking WR's is over Irish. If a guy can play the game and dominate he should be considered. You don't catch 155 passes in a season without having skills. What if Singletary was told he couldn't play in the NFL because he was 5'll.

This kid is also 6'0 215 which means he is a fucking horse. Not 5'9 185 like Rash. 3 or 4 inches and 30lbs of muscle probably wouldn't put him in the same category as Rash who is an actual midget receiver. c'mon dude...

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I definitely missed that - 155 catches ?? Wow. Respect.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Irish, Johnny,

I tend to fall somewhere in the middle of this discussion. The kid obviously has skills as a position receiver, but the NFL is all about speed man... much different than the college game where skill can get you further up the ladder.

From my perspective, the size of this kid is actually decent and he'll put on some muscle and probably get his speed down a bit his first year... but damn, almost a 4.6, as a WR?!?!? That's.... not.... good. Possession receivers are still a great asset to a team, but despite your dislike for Bennett Irish, I think we already have a really good possession WR in Bennett. He

Sorry, possession receiver... you know what I mean damn it.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Dog, I'm a mess this morning... almost a 4.7.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If he caught 155 passes in a year the kid is getting open somehow. I think precise route running and football IQ is move valuable than speed any day. Look at our WR's for example, Knox and Hester are flat out the fastest guys in the NFL and they can barely comprehend the intricate MIT playbook of the offensive genius of the late Ron Turner. (It hurt just typing that). Martz needs smartz (see how I did that MB?) to be successful in this scheme or any NFL scheme for that matter. Speed is about 25% of what is needed to be successful, 25% size, and 50% football IQ.

  • In reply to Joseph:

It also shows what value they place at the WR position. If Lovie is having dinner with the South Florida Safety who is projected to be a second rounder, and is working out WR's who didn't even get invited to the combine...what does that tell you?

  • In reply to Joseph:

Personally I would put speed more around the 40/50% mark Joe. Fast dumbasses can always get open and catch a ball if you don

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Check out his highlight vid...he could be our "Go up and get it" guy. *sigh*. I'm clearly desperate can you tell?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw0a-5xV--w

  • In reply to Joseph:

Gotta admit Joe, he looked pretty good in the highlight vid. He's got some shakes and is a bulldog... which might have made up for the lack of speed in College.

Still gotta wonder if that can translate in the NFL with guys like sharper, Clark, Palamaluauauaua, Reed, Steve Atwa.... oh, wait, never mind that last one.

Anyway. He looks tough on film, but I say let some other team take the gamble on him up front. We've got enough projects and experiments on this team already. Unless he falls to the 4th or 5th and we can get him cheap after we

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Precisely. Win now. I'll scream this until it's no longer possible. BRANDON MARSHALL PUSHES US ONTO THE NEXT LEVEL. He will be available for a second rounder come the draft. DO IT DO IT DO IT !!!!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

That's what blew my mind with Turner, MB - you've got a guy like Hester the last few years, and he's obviously got good hands. He's super fast. Good hands. Hmmm. I think I see a place for him as a receiver. Beat your man, run towards the endzone, and we'll put it up there for you to catch. But no, Turner was into that high-percentage crap that doesn't get you anywhere except back on the sideline when your midget receiver can't break the tackle on a bubble screen.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Ed Zachary!

  • In reply to Joseph:

Not to knock the guy (he's clearly doing something right in college) but he was getting open against what ? No fkn way he comes into the NFL and gets 2/3 of that. Slow is slow, you can't coach speed. I'll take that off a 6'7 TE but not a small Let someone else play with that experiment. Our window for a super bowl with this team is closing - we need a vet receiver who can make an impact now. We need serious help and we don't have three years to prick around with some guy.Anyone we draft won't be available for a couple of years - the Bears prove consistently that they can't draft receivers. I'm STILL pissed off that we let Brandon Rideau go so that we could keep Rashied Davis and Whackme Glazyarse on the squad. Kills me. The receiver position is changing and Angelo doesn't seem to see that. Bigger is better.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And is he Div I or II ? 155 sounds very high ... Div II no thanks ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Could it be that the patriots would want Dez for a second round pick? I don't think the Bears would give up Olsen.. I mean they could but I don't see it. Thus, I think someone is going to be traded on draft day. One of our four tightends will not be playing next year with us.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I sure like your thinking 85, but no way will we get a 2nd round pick for Dez. I think the opportunity was there with Olsen in the beginning, for a trade to the Pats for a 2nd rounder. But the Pats have since signed a good F-Safety in free agency. The Bears seem content to keep Olsen, which is fine by me. The Bears better NOT let Dez go for nothing as well!! They better get something for him, maybe a 4th rounder.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Dez walks for free. No doubt. Look at what just happened ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

agreed on both sides of the point boys. i personally would like to see a power play made to get Marshall over here. It can be done. Also, i think we have our posession receiver in Bennett so in that respect we don't need another one. it just looks like this kid is a fucking baller.
Also, Javon Walker for the league minimum. He still has gas in the tank and will be a nice little surprise for some team that takes a chance on him. loved him in GB.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I don't dislike Bennett. He's just ... meh ... whatever. I've seen a lot better, that's all -he doesn't impress me and I want to be impressed. Jump balls are a pretty fucking significant part of football. You're taller, you win. Period. If we had Marshall we'd be dominant on offense (assuming we'll have a less tragic OL - but no guarantee there). Olsen falls over when he catches the ball, a BM fights for you. Also, the 'possession receiver' thing leaves me cold. You're either a receiver who can catch balls or you're not. The taller you are the bigger your advantage over the defense. Would you want three Steve Smiths on your team or three Brandon Marshalls ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I'd settle for one Brandon Marshall Irish.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, I share your confusion with our management. But remember just because they interview a guy, doesnt mean they will draft him. All teams interview alot of players, but they may only end up drafting a couple of them. There is alot of Bullshitting & deceit going on, as to not tip off other teams.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

We haven't the got the picks to be drafting a receiver anyway ... need a guard , a tackle, a cornerback, possibly a safety if they don't do the right thing and grab a vet off the market, and IMHO a monster MLB in case the unthinkable happens (touching wood).

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Antonio Pierce baby! FA, right now.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Is Peppers at training camp ? All I'm seeing is reports on where he's drinking every night and what the bill was ... the vibes are not good ...

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Great interview Jeff! I hope this is a sign of more to come.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Damn Irish.

Good for you... lotta dudes would be out nuts deep all the time. A man of character is a hard man to find these days. 1000 points.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Wow. Where can I cash those in MB ? I like Dunkin Donuts occasionally ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

It's a mystery Irish. But just like karma, it has to lead to something good.

They gots Dunkin in Thailand? Damn, I think I'll have a bearclaw.

They do 'Pon de rings' in Dunkin Donuts here, is that shit in America ? I avoided them for a while because of the stupid name, but they rule. And McDonalds don't do quarter pounders here. Lame.

Are you reading this McDonald's senior management? No quarter pounders in a country of 62 million people ? YOU SUCK!!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Pon de rings huh... no, but they look pretty damn tasty (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3465/3310412931_84eb15bbfa.jpg). Love Thai food and lao food. Man, I would get me some Pla samrot, Mu nam tok or Nam tok mu, Massaman curry, Tom yam kung

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Can't fkn stand the food man. Everything's either spicy, dead for months, fermented, or just stomach churning to old Irish ...

I'd have that McArabia right now. Jebus ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Baaahahahahahahahahaha!

    Wow, that sucks.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, did you catch it? Angelo called this an average draft. I wonder why he said that? I wonder if not picking until the 3rd round has anything to do with it? More like average in the 3rd round.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Trac, can I be completely honest with you man... I couldn't get past the first couple minutes of that thing before turning it off. I honestly wanted to just punch that tool in the face for bringing our glorious franchise to this point.

    He makes me angry.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Angelo is a professional bullshitter. Watch this team trade up and unload most of NEXT years picks to do so. Did anybody catch him say the TE class was good this year? TE? Really?

  • In reply to Joseph:

Joe, that would be sweet. JA would be my hero if he got us another couple TEs in the draft, dog knows we need a couple more. In fact, why don't we just fill all the spots with TEs?

What the fuck is wrong with that moron? Did he get stood up by his schools all-american TE at prom? Was his pappy a TE? Maybe his brother was, who mommy and daddy thought was always 'so much better and smarter that you Jerry!"

    Painful.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Could be a pointer towards them off-loading Olsen if they can get a 2nd for him ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

The Bears worked out this young Safety prospect. Check out this kids RANGE!! Impressive

Is it just me or does it sound like he's talking in fucking slow motion? Jebus.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It's a double edge sword MB. Either we make it deep into the playoffs or this will be Angelo's last draft anyways.

Angelo is a slippery snake in the grass, he has something up is sleeve I guarantee.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Joseph, a 9-7 wild card one and done will keep LS and JA in Chicago.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I get it guys. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

If there is no lockout Trac, not sure that will be enough, we'll see.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Lockout. Scary word. That couldn't actually happen could it ?

  • In reply to Joseph:

I don't see how this crowd of jokers gets us to the playoffs Joseph, so hopefully it will be his last. Leopards don't change their spots. Lovie is Lovie and Angelo will screw the pooch in the draft like he does every single year. We have no depth on this team. Pre Wale and AB leaving we had depth on DL, now we're at the mercy of the injury gods and still short key players. And so be it ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

He said absolutely nothing in that interview apart from that NY did well in moving up in the 3rd round to take Shonn Greene.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I cringe too, but must you attach yourself to the un attached real Bear fan who is unattached! You are seperated from the true Bear fans, make your yourself perfect..

Double Deuce....my fav. player in the league.....get back to Freshman form. Pep...kill Aaron, Stafford, & (Brett Favre?)/Tavaris Jackson. Road To REDEMPTION starts at Bourbonnais!!!!!

I hope we get a humongous receiver if for no other reason than to put one in the eye of all those tools who think Cutler is crap. 5000 yards and 40+ TDS should do it ...

  • Soldier field it is then. I'm signed up. Can't believe Maria Sharapova wins so much. There's a lot of white chicks on there. Seeing Halle on there brings me back to Monster's ball and the hammering Billy Bob laid on her. God I love Billy Bob - U-Turn, A Simple Plan, Sling Shot, Pushing Tin. The dude is a chameleon, great writer, actor and musician. Dinner with Billy Bob, John Cusack, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman & Vince Vaughan please.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Hey Irish, gotta agree about Halle. WOW! About your dinner choices, if Paul Newman shows up it will be tough to eat dinner. He died a year and a half ago. Wouldn't mind having dinner with Clint. You can have the rest of those guys.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Maybe a quiet night in with Halle would be the wiser choice.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Good line Irish... didn't catch this earlier.

    Mine (in no particular order):

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Oh Jebus, I'm misting up MB, your Grandad, that's so sweet. Martin Sheen moved to Galway for a few years and signed up at the University there. Galway's a small town so he'd be pretty easy to meet. Love that guy.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Hahahaha... thanks Irish. Gotta throw one out for my grandpappy. He had balls the size of fucking watermelons.

Fled Ze Nasties in Berlin to Southern Africa with $5 in his pocket and the cloths on his back. He was a bad ass. Old Skool style. Gotta give it up.

It's probably been mentioned, but (take note Jeff) who wants to look through almost four hundred posts to find out... Tinoisamoa resinged, I think that is great news, and Our boy roy was great on that Cris williams gouge.

anyways, time for more news, guess it will be kind of cold until the draft by now anyways.

  • In reply to shonbear:

Is that why they haven't signed Jamar Williams Shon ? I'd take Jamar over an injury case we know very little about any day. They've been dragging their heels with Williams and now we know why. They're shopping him. Moronic decision #1543 from Angelo ... anyone got his address ?

  • In reply to shonbear:

Jerry Angelo...Terrel Owens is on line 2

  • In reply to Joseph:

T.O. : Hi Jerry, pay me $4 million and we're good, I really think I can help your boy Jay out, y'know for jump balls, running sweet routes, bring all my experience to the table, y'know ? So wassup ?

JA : Who ? Oh Terrell, hey, uh ... well the thing is 'dude' ... can I call you 'dude' ? I know you people like that lingo .. and I'm pretty down with the kids ... anyway brah, the thing is we're pretty much set at receiver here. You could be a little tall for the position by our estimates, and you run your routes correctly, we don't want our younger smurfs getting jealous, they're working on that. Rashied, Iglesias, you know we just don't want to upset them or take any game-time away from them .. you feelin' me bro .. my 'main man' ... you dig ?

I could see Marshall going for maybe a 1st rd or high 2nd rd pick. But I was surprised Miami gave up 2 2nd rounders, then gave him a 4 year deal at 12 mil a year. Denver came out good on that deal, with Marshall in his last year of his contract. It is more than Boldin or Mcnabb went for as far as draft compensation goes. Good luck to Marshall, he wanted out, now hopefully he can stay out of trouble! I knew there was no way Denver was going to trade Marshall to the Bears. Not after the Cutler deal. Last thing, Angelo is a total piece of Shiht as a G.M. What did we do to deserve this(him)??

BF, Miami will be a contender next year. Denver could become a powerhouse will all the picks the have drained us and the dolphins for. I don't like McDaniels but I would love to see Orton have a great career. He deserves it.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

You know Trac, maybe it is a good thing we didn't get Marshall. Seriously before I get blowed up here. If Marshall would have got into trouble just one more time then he would be supsended indefinitely. I don't about having a player with that much going against him would be good to have on the team.

  • Hey Doc, you are right about the field position. Last year the Bears were 1st or 2nd in the league in average starting position. Dave Toub is a genious, seriously, this guy takes whoever they throw at him and turns them into productive players. Even with the constant changes, year after year Toub has us kicking ass on special teams. We should put Hester,Knox & Manning all back there, good point Doc because who will they kick to then? The Globe Trotter comment was funny. It least we can be confident that our Special teams will be good this year.

Careful what you wish for. I've met a few famous to sem-famous musicians doing music promotion and every now and then one of them will really disappoint you. If they are really dickheads you don't even want to listen to their music ever again.

The flip side of that is the vast majority of them were super nice and leave you with great memories.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

    Good call Canada.

Somehow I think Robert Nesta Marley would not disappoint. At the very least he'd probably whip out a huge J and get you high to the bejebus. But yeah, as a recent example I refuse to watch anything from the following tools these days:

    * Tom Cruise - HUUUUGE asshole and a freak of nature alien believer
    * Mel Gibson

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I always mute commercials so I have no idea what Luke Wilson is saying but they do look pathetic. Cruise is a colossal arrogant prick. I wish someone would pound him into little pieces. Gibson is a first class bigot. Both of them are always going on about their religions. HMMMMM!

I'm with ya all the way on Bob Marley. I saw him talking about the Rastafarian religion and smoking pot in an interview. The interviewer was skeptical and said he smoked pot and never felt very religious. Bob answered, "Smoke a cone, you'll see God." Sign me up for a big fatty!

If you're into Reggae check out Toots and the Maytals. There is a live album on Island records from 1980, Toots in Memphis (all old soul and r&b covers, out of print) and one of duets from 2004 called True Love. The guests include Clapton, Willie Nelson, Gwen Stefani, Bonnie Raitt, etc. Great live performer. He's about 5 foot tall and a bundle of energy. He's got about 30 records out there and about half of them are live. Not sure about any of the others.

Tom Cruise is insane. As in clinically. See that clip where he's talking about Scientology ? Talk about being in a bubble. On your own.

Luke Wilson - agree. Owen only gets a pass because of the Wedding Crashers and that movie where he travels from town to town poisoning people (The Minus Man).

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

I raped this list from ProFootballTalk.com

Do you guys see anybody worth getting?

Wide receivers: Terrell Owens, Kevin Curtis, Laveranues Coles, Torry Holt, Javon Walker

Cornerback: Lito Sheppard, Nick Harper, Fred Smoot

Safety: Darren Sharper, Ken Hamlin, Gibril Wilson, Jermaine Phillips

  • In reply to Joseph:

I'd like to look at Javon Walker for the league minimum and Fred Smoot because he was on the sex boat.

  • In reply to Joseph:

I actually liked that interview. You had some balls to ask him some of those questions but I am glad you did.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Wide receivers: Javon Walker... if he comes WAY, WAY cheap... Terrell Owens

Running backs: We damn well better be all set here

    Quarterback: Marc Bulger

Tight ends: Are they serious?!?!? Don't even think about it Jerry. 10 TEs on one team is enough

Linebacker: Antonio Pierce (in case 54 goes down again)

Cornerback: Lito Sheppard, Nick Harper, Fred Smoot

    1. Darren Sharper (draft stud next year)
    2. Terrell Owens
    3. Flozell (if cheap & draft stud next year)
    4. kick Javon's tires.

  • How did you like that response, ha,ha. That was extremely difficult to write, it was so bad. Its one of those things that make you go Huh? or like you said WTF!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Hey MB, I saw an article today that Belichek said this years draft is like having two first rounds. Compare that to the video you posted with JA. You may not have watched the end but JA actually said this years draft is average. Pardon the confusion here but there is a huge disparity between an average draft and Belicheat saying its like having two first rounds because of all the talent in rounds one and two. If the rumors are true that the Bears are going to trade up for a second round pick then it would seem that once again JA is engaging in double speak. Why trade up in an average draft?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Anything that comes out of Angelo's mouth is pure excreter. As someone on here said, he's a professional bullshitter. You'd sit down with that guy and never get a fucking word in. I hate those guys.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

ok. I will buy that this could all be smokescreen. We are set a qb and we get Cutler. We are not going hog wild and we get Julius Peppers. Just tell me, who would you give up to trade up or what do you give up to trade up?

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

That's the thing 85. I have no clue unless it involves trading some lower round picks in this years draft to move up into the 2nd round.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    Trac, my man.

Yeah... who knows what will happen. Whatever does it will be loud and people will be both "WOW!" and "What the fuck?!?!" It's Jerry style, big moves that usually amount to unfulfilled promises and broken dreams.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Ha ! Interesting whisper on Olsen, and a cool video of all Shabba's receptions. Damn, if we can find a guy to put opposite him we are going to seriously going to damage people.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ooh, I like it. Yeah, be afraid Gregorina, be very afraid ...

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If they insist on drafting a receiver, this guy is one of tallest out of a very short crop of munckins. And he's smart - nothing to worry about playbook wise.

    8. Eric Decker, Minnesota, 6-3, 217: Teams looking for a big, tough, dependable possession receiver will like Decker. He isn't a speed demon, but he catches everything and has top intangibles. Decker reportedly had the highest Wonderlic score of any player at the combine. He has a good feel for route running and getting open, especially against zones. Decker can run over defenders, and he is a fine blocker. He is comparable to Jordy Nelson of the Packers. He also is a former baseball player who was drafted twice. His stock could drop a little because he can't run as the result of a foot injury.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I thought the QB from Harvard had the highest score Irish? 47 or 48? Anyway, he sounds good. Where's he projected to go... and why the fuck are we looking for a WR in the draft again?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

no clue on projection, but from reports he sounds to good to be true. He's smart. Runs good routes, gets open in zones, catches everything, and runs over people !

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I see 6'3 and I get sexed up MB. Don't know his wonderlic, I copied and pasted ...

Great video Irish. I think a T.O would really elevate Shabbashado's game to the next level. Fuck I want the season to start so bad. And Lovie is a moron for not playing him for the majority of the season. Shame on you Lovie

  • In reply to Joseph:

Can you imagine T.O. opposite Shabba, Joe ? Kellen Davis in the mix, Forte, Chester Taylor swinging out of the backfield ? And the scrambling skills of Jay-baby ? You couldn't double team anyone ! Damn, if I was 15 I'd be hard right now ....

  • In reply to Joseph:

Dez is gone with no compensation; as much as I hate to see him go, it would take a moron of TBT-proportion to give up even a 7th rounder for him when the Bears have no leverage.

  • In reply to MikeBrownhadaPosse:

Welcome back Posse. Other teams cash in on their players, Angelo just gives them away like Halloween candy. No Trick all Treat. Angelo tells the whole league he will just release players, if he cant trade them? Seriously, what an Idiot. The league must be laughing their asses off at Angelo's ineptness & stupidity. He did sign a couple big time players in Cutler & Peppers. But that took no brains, just money! When it comes to decisions that require smarts, Angelo always lays an egg. Thats why he always drafts so bad. He has no business making the final decision on a player!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

like Halloween candy. I like that, very funny BF.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Good article and take trac. I agree, we're fucked until these morons get the shitcanny and we get a real GM and HC in Halas. Could be an interesting ride next year though, at least we'll be able to watch a lot of football.

BTW... If you post and it bonks and gives you an apology message, just know that the damn thing actually HAS posted. Just refresh the page and it should be there. This blog and ChicagoNow is freaking terrible.

Ok.. a fifth round pick and we could have Santonio Holmes.. Are you kidding me?! What the hell! I know we are not going to go after Brandon Marshall after seeing that sweet deal go away.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

85, it was a shock to everyone, no one saw it coming. The Steelers did this in the middle of the night I guess. Some scouts are very surprised the Steelers only got a 5th rounder for him. Holmes is also facing a 4 game suspension this season. The guy was trouble anyway.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

At least nY are out of the running for Marshall. I think Marshall wants into Chicago and back with Cutler. Makes sense.

  • And he's hitting Vegas in between ... I know the guy snagged a $91 M contract. AA could be in this guy's future, is that why the Panthers let him walk ? Is that why he said "Everybody in panther town knows your business.." ?

He thought he could 'blend in' in Chicago ? Phfft.

  • Sweet. "When I get through with Chicago, they'll be loving me," Payton said the day he was drafted.

    Ayuh.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I wonder what Peppers is saying Irish?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

"$91 million WOOOOOOOHAAAAAAAAA !!! Cristal for everyone in the house ! How much of this shit is guaranteed ? Drink up guys, before they realise they threw the baby out with the bath water. Shit, I'm gonna throw up again. Bleeurrrgh !"

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Pisa's a Bear in 2010! I really would like to see this guy have a healthy productive year. With him and Lach healthy again and Briggs holding it down as usual, we should no doubt see an improved defensive unit.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

    Fuck Yea! Great news gents!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

It all comes down to staying healthy. If we stay injury free at several key positions we go to the playoffs. i'm convinced of it and no one can tell me any different. I'm not saying we get out of the first round but as we all know boys...In the playoffs anything can happen.
It's all about getting to the post season any way you can. We will do it with an offensive gameplan that will look similar to my little cousin playing Madden 10.

I heard Martz invented a 10 step drop for this season. Mannelly will fucking long snap it to Cutler who will drop back several steps putting himself roughly 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. All 4 TE's will be in the game to block and Hester and Knox will just take off at the snap on a dead ass sprint with one running a deep post and the other running a 35 yard in route.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

The real question is... Will Mannelly choose to audible?

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

    Nice Bill...let's fuckin' hope not.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

Gotta love audibles from the long snapper.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

If ... being the operative word. 2 linebackers in game one, Dusty in pre-season. Just sayin' ....

And I'll take your little cousin Waffle, Madden 08, 5 min quarters. Old skool. RunDMC/KRS-ONE to his Kanye. Christmas in Hollis to his Mariah. Let's do this ..

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    classic line

Damn, 5 in the morning, I'm Audi ....

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Fark, You know what that means ... Jamar Williams is gone. Farkin farkness. That guy will be a pro bowler somewhere else, no doubt in our division. Fark.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

There she blows Irish. Everyone had been wondering where our trade for a 2nd rounder would come from. I mentioned Jamar was being shopped around from an article I read a month ago. Where is our fresh talent going to come from in a year or two? I sure hope these ding bats don't give away the store to say their necks.

Daddy dady, can I have a Peyton Manning or an Aaron Rodgers jersey for Christmas ?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Do we have any TE's worth a 5th or 6th rounder?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

No Trac: But we will probably draft a few T.E'S though, ha,ha.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

First off, congrats on the interview jeff. It's a new high for a great blog.

Ted Ginn might develop into something special somewhere, but the way I see it, we already have 2 speed guys and if we're to upgrade at WR we'd be better suited to get a guy that's ginormous with good hands.

Lastly, Larry Mayer is a douche.

  • In reply to scabbyeggs:

You know what I hate about Mayer, is he needs more help, so that they can report more news to the fans!! For being the Bears Official site, they suck at bringing fans the most updated news and reports on our Bears!! Wake-up you guys, give us the news!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

  • In reply to scabbyeggs:

Brandon Marshal signed his $2.somthing Million tender today, and is ripe for a trade (I know Irish, just keep saying and thinking 'baseball' to yourself).

We need to make a fucking move for him if we can get him for the price is right. He's the best damn receiver in the NFL for christo sake. Him and Boldin just fucking amaze me man. Seeing those two play (when healthy) is like watching men amongst boys. Jebus, reunite his ass with Jay Jerry and I may give you another shot at not being a douche in my mind.

Then go about your business of getting us the other pieces in the wrong way.

    And yes Scabby

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    BTW, did I mention (like I have to) that he's fucking 6'4" and 2-fucking-30, and runs a 4.5 40.

...Oh yeah, and his fucking nickname is, "The BEAST!"

  • In reply to MB30SD:

And catches everything thrown anywhere near him ... and runs through people, over them ... and has to be dragged to the ground and gang tackled. Jebus, who needs a guy like that ?

  • In reply to scabbyeggs:

Finally, a Samurai pic to look at! Ginormous with good hands is exactly what we need , Scabby. Let's see, who's on the market that their retarded HC wants rid of ...?

    Ha. Funny. (I think)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

i'm just bored at work and it seemed funnier in my head than when i actually put it in writing. Here are my thoughts on the subject:

Shaba is going to catch about 60 balls this year for about 850 yards.
He does go for the extra yards and runs pretty well in the open field so it will be exciting to see him on crossing routes.
He is not the type of receiver you run bubble screens to but Turner wouldn't realize that.
Watching that MN game on MNF made3 me think that we were much better than our record last year.
I'm excited about the weapons we have this year and as long as we address the final 2 positions we should be good for at least an appearance in the 1st round of the playoffs.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

Actually, I did think it was pretty funny. I put "I think" after it because I wasn't sure if it was a mistake or if you meant to do it. If you meant to do it, it was funny.

My translation. 75% of the Bears player personnel decisions were bad ones over the last 3 years. Our personnel decisions suck and what in theee hell makes anyone think our new roster under these clowns will be any better?

My interpretation. 75% of the personnel moves over the last three years sucked. That's a pretty bad ratio so what makes anyone think that our recent acquisitions will fare any better. Plus only 4 teams that made major free agent moves have improved their records the following year. I have been reminding everyone of Jacksonville a few years ago when the signed 7 free agents in one year and laid a major egg the next. GOOD TEAMS build from within the organization and we as Bears fans had better need to understand that it may be a very long drought on the horizon. I hope to hell I'm wrong.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Hey Guys: I am obviously in the minority on here, about getting a Receiver. I dont think we need one, especially not T.O. I think Character is very important in choosing players. We have a good locker room and that is huge, not having negative distractions or trouble all the time, it brings down team morale. T.O reminds me of Milton Bradley. When I take everything into perspective, I see plenty of talent & potential in the guys we have, they will be better with a year under their belt. We still need to get Eglesias on the field, who according to players & coaches was as good as everyone else in practice towards the end of the season. A Veteran is going to take valuable reps & experience away from our promising young players. I take into account that Turner was the Coordinator, yet these kids still looked good & showed potential. Hell, Turner didnt even play Aroma till late in the season? Turner is terrible and held these kids back, if anything. They will be so much better with Martz now(plus Tice), I cant wait to see this new offense of ours! Can you say "BAM" 30+ points a game, Yeah! Anyone need a re-fill on their Kool-Aid,ha,ha. We need what few picks we have, as we have some need areas to address Safety,Guard,Center Cornerback (needs). I just dont see a vet Receiver as a need. I want us to have all our draft picks next year as well. Marshall is not worth a high draft pick, plus a huge contract that will need to be done when the trade is made. But thats just my opinion, I know I am the minority, just another perspective. BEAR DOWN!

BEAR DOWN!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Brandon Marshall isn't worth a high draft pick ? Is there a better receiver after the catch in the NFL over the last 3 years ? Look at his stats in that time.

306 receptions. 23 TDs. 3,700 yards. 1461 YAC !! (take note Mr. Olsen, and BM was *definitely* double covered)

Look at his highlight reel. He catches balls anywhere in the vicinity and then gets mad YAC, dragging people, bashing people. I've said this all over the place, but it bears mentioning - Asomugha said he was the hardest receiver in the NFL to bring down. Cutler didn't spark last year until Shabba came on the scene - are his hands better than Hester's ? No, but he's bigger. Marshall will most likely go for a second, possibly a third, as there's been no bites yet. Come the draft he'll be a bargain! He;s not worth a second ? C'mon man. Our receivers were bullshit for 14 weeks, not one of then could run a route worth a damn, they didn't even know their routes ! A new playbook ? Yes we do need a vet receiver, if the playoffs is where you want to go ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

BM is hands down the best receiver in the NFL. He's an animal and I wish we would do whatever was needed to get him here... AFTER we've locked up a couple o linemen and a FS.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Marshall?? Get him a uniform

Rule one. Don't bring your wife/gf. Like my good friend George (75 year old Lions fan and Oracle) says = why bring a sandwich to a banquet?

Arrive at airport. Ignore every fucker trying to get you into their taxi - sign up outside for a legit taxi. Get them to turn the meter on!

    Girls
    ======
Good time girls are in *every* city/town/village/hamlet/bend in the river in Thailand. But for the spectacle basically are confined to BKK, Hua Hin(nice town where the king lives), Kanchanburi and Pattaya. The larger islands also.

I don't know what kind of experience you want, but for an eye-opener I'd be straight to Soi 4 Sukhumwit - Nana Plaza - for what I can only describe as a three-level sex mall and heaven for the drinking gentlemen of both persuasions. Ignore the vids on youtube that show you the normal bars as you enter. 20 odd bars in the same place. Rainbow 1/2/3/4 well worth a look. Pole dancers of the top shelf variety. For looking at only on my wages - but they are fine and eager for your business, the hood rats out on the street don't have a bar fine and are just as sweet. I didn't go into any of the ladyboy bars so I can't help you there. Although many of them are more stunning than the girls. A day or two of that and you can lose your mind and the run of yourself. 'Entertainment' Clubs are ten a penny in BKK but I believe the EDEN Club is pretty good. You walk in, line of girls on either side - you'll be told one side aren't fussy about where you put it ... you get the picture. A lot of that stuff is based around a big bath etc.

The clubs in Pattaya are where it's at, and some of the stuff that goes on in those places doesn't belong on here but it's nice to watch, free, and you can join in if you're not shy.

Pattaya is a beach town about two hours down the coast and is basically sex city. It's where a lot of ex-pats live and is run by the Russian mafia. A lot of US servicemen are back friends with Thailand after a 2 year stay-away because of the political unrest here - they dock at the naval base nearby. Tourism is down now because of new unrest, but just stay away from any rallies of redshirts. They're just drunken idiots paid to stir up trouble. Stay clear and you're sweet. No trouble outside Bangkok. Youtube has it all : type in pattaya / walking street, soi cowboy, nana plaza and you'll see what you're getting.

    Non-sexual touristy stuff
    =========================
If none of that appeals, apologies. Koh Phi Phi is gorgeous, you might want to fly down as it's a long trek. Ditto Koh Samui. Phuket is just a bit too built up and back-packery. A lot of dreadlocked white people (which I never quite understood)getting completely overserved on buckets of vodka and red-bull.

Full moon parties. Never went to one never going. 10,000 lobster whities in dreadlocks off their faces on a beach drawing large numbers of narcs who are looking to frame you. Avoid.

Chiang Mai is worth a visit, but that's in northern Thailand and will take a few days out of your trip. Again, more travelling.

I love the Tiger temple in Kanchanaburi (2 hours outside BKK, close to me). You can play with the baby tigers and feed them their bottles in the morning. You can bathe the 4-7 monthers, and walk them for morning exercise. Then you can walk the adults down to their exercise pool and watch them play in the water, that's awesome if not slightly un-nerving because you're right there and they get boisterous when they play. There's nothing between them and you. Be prepared to stand your ground and slap them in the face.

There's nice temples you can go and see in BKK, but I hate the double standards. Thais get in for like 20/40 baht, but you pay ten times the price, unless you look asian. There's not that much to BKK once you've seen the main two temples. It's a metropolis with a lot of poverty.

Maybe do Phi-phi, Samui and a couple of days in BKK, or fly to Cambodia and see Angkor Wat. Laos is cool too.

    Ladyboys/Katoeys
    ================
This is a judgement call but I'm making it. Never to be trusted. Thieves and liars. And because they think they're women, they won't make it obvious to you that they're guys. Look for Adam's apples, large breasts and trying to hide deep voices. They prey on tourists. If they come up to you have nothing to do with them, don't try to be nice to them, they're after your wallet.

The girls are generally good fun and sweet though. Enjoy.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Jebus, sorry for the long post, the window I was typing in was only an inch high (private eye?) ...

    Go Bears !!!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Thanks homie! I have an opportunity to go with my bud who has business there in September. Great sexy-time and non-sexy-time knowledge, which was what I was looking for. I love banquets, but I feel like my penis would either fall off after such a trip or feel like a sliced corned beef pastrami on rye after I'm done.
I do fear the ladyboys. I've heard all about them and how they are hard to distinguish from the real deals.
I don't know if I could deal with choosing the wrong team member. That could be a trip buster for me. Not sure if I'd be able to get back on my horse after that and get back into the game. Appreciate it Irish. Good to know we have a real Bears fan in Thailand.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Have fun Bro, and if you're in a girlie bar, there won't be any L-boys in there, they're not allowed. It's just outside you'd need your wits about you. They have their own bars.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Yeah, MB, I saw/heard Terry on the 4-Letter last night but I did not realize that he had told Ben to "Park the motorcycle." BEFORE Ben took his "Helmetless Header" on it.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I agree Johnny. The offseason seems like an eternity for me. I hate the down time, searching for news to keep my Football fix in check. One of my favorite moves this offseason, was sending Turner packing, that is a big move right there. Turner is predictable, Martz is anything but predictable. Martz will throw out the playbook if the game he called isnt working. We have some nice young potential on offense and we are going to surprise alot of people. When we pick up a L-Guard, then Tice will teach and whip those O-Lineman into shape. BEAR DOWN! GO BEARS!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Thanks for reminding me BF - Turner's gone and our munckin recivers are singing ! Ding ! Dong! The witch is dead the witch is dead ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Hey Irish, I read that too. Hail Walter Payton, one of the Greatest of all time and he will always be a BEAR, & now he is in our hearts and memories!! Not only was he a great player, but what a great person. I was Heartbroken when he passed. I felt like I lost a Brother. I couldnt believe this was happening to such a great person, who deserved nothing but positive Karma, God Bless Him, R.I.P.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF, I'm just glad he's not around to see my last post ...

Gone but never forgotten. He said himself that tomorrow was promised to no man. He deserved better. I'm not religious, but if I was I'd say God had a higher purpose for him elsewhere, because he nailed this life pretty good, both as an athlete and as a human being. A class apart and a cut above.

R.I.P. Walter, miss you bad bro.

  • We need an OG and a FS. Shabba, Knox, Hester & Bennett will do for next year, esp. with Chester in the backfield and a blocking TE instead of Thor-lite. Respect the run and Knox will be open.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Knox is a pissy route runner just like the rest of the munchkins on this team and is not playing the same sport as BM. He's fast, he blocks and I'm glad we have him, but not using one of the picks from next years is nothing short of incompetent. Unless they were told they didn't have access to next year's picks by Shit Phillips. In which case HE should be hung drawn and quartered. Marshall was a gift horse and we looked him in the mouth and went 'Duh'. This is an absolute travesty and far worse than any Alex Brown, Chris Harris, TJ foul-up. Insane. Stupid. Moronic. Blind. They've out-spazzed themselves and a pox on their families and all successive generations. I'm livid. The arrogance to think that the short-bus riders we have at receiver are going to be any different this year is mind-blowing. Mind-blowing. These guys earn millions of dollars a year to make decisions like that ? @#$% !

Go straight to hell Angelo & Phillps, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Morons.

  • Damn blog... was that question for me Doc?

  • yeah, pretty dissapointing...

  • I am truly dissapointed that we did not get Marshall.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I'm not dissapointed at all 85. I knew all along this crew would never make an intelligent move like that. As a matter of fact I would say that they more than lived up to their billing on this deal.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Before everyone goes off the deep end on Marshall, read this:

    http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_14881263

He won't make through the season for the fish.

  • In reply to gpldan:

Thanks for the article. Why do you say he won't make it through the season for Miami? Bum hip? Nuts? Something else? He is definitely a risk but a risk worth taking. Oh well. At least our crappy secondary won't have to face him twice a year.

  • In reply to gpldan:

    GP..Headcase!!

  • In reply to gpldan:

They wouldn't have signed him without one of the top specialists in the country seeing him GPL, Parcells isn't dumb (contrary to the Oracle Jerry Jones). Another 100 reception year with mad YAC is in his future - well done Bill, you know football well enough to do the obvious. Kudos.

Not going to happen and that's official Matt. Just when I thought my day/life couldn't get any worse after reading Marshall was gone, I read this (it won't be hard to find MY comment) :

    http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/04/angelo-comfortable-without-adding-a-veteran-safety.html#comments

"Although the Bears still appear to have a huge void to fill at the safety position, general manager Jerry Angelo doesn't appear to be overly concerned.

"Right now we would be comfortable starting with the present cast of players at the position,'' Angelo said on ChicagoBears.com. "

You would be comfortable ? You ?! What about the fans, what about the team ? No one on planet earth thinks we have a defensive backfield worth a damn. We got absolutely raped in the air last year, and I don't want to hear about the pass rush - we don't have good safeties. Period. Pass rush or no. Ed Reed, Polamalu .. have they got awesome pass rushes ? God I hate this guy. Hate is not good, but George W and this guy ... man I'm pissed off !

"We looked at a veteran safety, but we felt that we wanted to pass on that. We just didn't feel the timing was right."

WTF ? Yeah, let's win the Superbowl in 2023, you @#$%! Timing ? Is this a joke ? Timing ? #$@% ! Get me a gun, get me into Chicago on the QT - any servicemen out there that can help ? I'll do it ! I'll get it filmed ! We'll get Roy to break down the assassination and the clip of me dancing up and down on his riddled, bloody carcass.

Man, I hate being angry and full of bile but that's what that prick brings out in me. He makes my blood boil. God, I so badly want to be a billionaire just to buy them out walk in there and throw that #@$% out on the street where he belongs. GSH is turning in his grave. #@$@! AAAAAAAAAAGHGHGGHH !!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Nope. Not finished, sorry. WTF is going on ?? Is this prick a plant or what ? This is the kind of thing that will end up with Cutler on the slagheap because no way can this fool make a good signing. Draft your safety in the fourth round then you $#%@! And it better be the fourth round because if you don't get us a damn good guard in the third, I will eat your children I swear to God ! Are you reading this you fuck ?! Can you feel the hate ? Good. Well, multiply by ten million you ass-bandit, and bring your boyfriend Philips with you to Hades.

I had a great night tonight and I'm sober as a judge. Look what this @##$! does to me ! Get me one of the Johnson boys, I think I'm going to have a heart attack ....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Holy shit I was just about to write up a thesis paper on the link you just posted...luckily I looked up. Is Angelo serious?? I'm done...WTF! F-Angelo...wait, unless that slippery snake can draft a beast Safety. Won't happen, and who's to say we would even know how to develope the kid. Yea I'm definitly done..

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish. I know it doesn't help, but I am so right there with you my brother. 100% on every single little thing you said. Zero confidence this guy has any clue he knows what he's doing.

BUT, we've heard this exact double talk bullshit right before they shock us and do the exact opposite. Who fucking knows... but I do know these guys are both terrible and they need to go ASAP in order for this team to get better.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Angelo is saying what he has to. The last thing he wants to do is let it out on print that unless we get a FS we're giving up 3rd and 21 again all day long and we're screwed. He's trying to buy a pack of wrigly's gum for 5 cents, only last time I checked the price went up Jerry and you can't afford it can you?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Didn't mean to get you all worked up Irish! hahaha I just miss Mike Brown and I think about the amazing response they would receive from the fans if they brought him back. Can you imagine the roar of the crowd at the season opener when he announced his name?

To comment on JA's statement, "We looked at a veteran safety, but we felt that we wanted to pass on that. We just didn't feel the timing was right."

I get the feeling he was referring to Sharper and the "timing wasn't right" as in "we should have got him last year..." Reading that interview, I don't think the door is closed on the Saftey situation. He was just reciting the company line " we're confident with the players we have blah, blah, blah

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Holy Shit Irish, take a Valium buddy, you are going to give yourself a heart attack!! I am not ready to Kill, but I share your anger with Angelo's views on our Safeties!! I was like, is this a Joke? Then I realized when dealing with Angelo, it is probably true. I recall Lovie clamoring for a serious upgrade needed at F-Safety. Now Angelo is saying we are good to go with what we have?? This had better be a smokescreen. But knowing Angelo, he is not that smart, so he probably believes it. Our biggest need all of a sudden becomes not needed? God Help Us!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hell yeah Matty. Bring him back. He would be worth double his asking price just to be able to work 3rd downs and teach the kids how to bring it. If we brought back Marty Booker then we can bring back Brown. Unless of course they think just like last year that a blockbuster signing like Cutler/Peppers is all they need to do.

  • Hey Murph, why does it seem that we are the only team that overpays for talent? Just sayin.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

In regards to Cutler let me clarify with this analogy:

If you pay a million dollars for a diamond worth a million bucks then fair enough.

If you pay 5 million for a million dollar diamond because there is a shortage of diamonds then fair enough.

If you pay 10 million dollars for a million dollar diamond if there is a diamond shortage and then you find out you just bought a cubic zirconia, not so good.

I hope my second example plays out, I really do. Just sayin.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

at the very least I enjoyed the analogy Trac. very nice.
