Will Bears Trade Up Into Second Round?

Interesting article from Brad Biggs in the Tribune hypothesizing a possible move by the Bears into the second round to acquire an impact safety.

"There is more elite talent at the safety position overall this year
than there has been in past years with talk about four potentially
fitting into the first round and Nate Allen is a guy who could
potentially sneak in there," Nawrocki said. "I think (the Bears) have
to fill that need, they're looking hard at it and I think there is a
chance they could potentially move up to the second round, trade up,
and I know I have heard some discussion around the league about that
possibility. They should be able to address the needs with the players
that are in this draft."

Nawrocki noted a couple players who might be available at No. 75 if the
Bears stay put. The only previous time Angelo has traded up was in 2003
when he made a trade to move up in the fifth round to draft wide
receiver Justin Gage. We're talking about a minor trade at that point
in the draft.

Nawrocki's three other options with free-safety skills are Major Wright of Florida, T.J. Ward of  Oregon and Chad Jones of LSU.

There are concerns about the durability of Ward and his left knee that
could push him down draft boards. The Bears certainly have a track
record of gambling on players with injury red flags.

It's all going to start with how high a team is willing to go to draft
Berry. It's rare for safeties to go that high in the draft.

"The value relative to the money that is paid to these players nowadays
makes it difficult to invest that highly unless you really know what
you are getting," Nawrocki said.

The real question here is does Jerry Angelo have the organizational authority to relinquish draft picks in 2011?  Knowing this entire regime is on a playoffs-or-bust mandate, I think the McCaskey family and Ted Phillips need to ensure that J-Love doesn't make the hill to high for the next group to climb.

But it doesn't make much sense from a business standpoint either. $5 million is a drop in the bucket to these people, especially when fat can be trimmed elsewhere. It's not like this counts agains the salaray cap.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

There's a John Wayne quote that explains how the Bears could make such a seemingly inexplicable move in cutting Alex Brown:

"Life is tough. It's even tougher when you're STUPID!"

    Correct Lobo... coooorrect.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Relax MB: The Bears wont sacrifice next years picks to move up this year in the draft. If Da Bears want to improve this year, the players they need are in free agency this year, at least at Free Safety..

Welcome back #1BF, if anyone was a dick to you I bet they're really sorry and didn't mean it.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I don't understand all the pity for Alex and the venom for mgmt for mistreatment. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a bad move. However, Alex made somewhere between $10-$20 million playing for the Bears. He knows it's a business and has no hard feelings. Why do some of the posters feel differently? If my employer paid me that kind of money in the last 10 years I'm pretty sure I'd still speak well of them. Same for TJ. Again, a bad move but JA had an agreement with him. If he was a good soldier during the SB year JA would try to trade him to a team that was a good fit. It worked out really well for TJ. Why should he be bitter? I get being pissed about losing good team players but don't feel bad for the players.

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Well said CB. Every team has to shuffle the deck. I really don't think this move is a bad move. I would much rather categorize it as an unfortunate move.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Hey Canada, I have no problem with the Brown release, as long as it nets us a F-Safety like Atogwe or Sharper!! Then the move will make total sense!!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Lol. Funny guy. I get it.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Hey Trac are you OK? Your conflicting confidence is tough to understand. Is it the Bears or Not, that you support. For me it is always the Bears, I dont care what others say, I dont need to respond to those I feel a need to snuggle up with, LOL. I say what I feel. JUST Sayin, like you all do to me! GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Just have my eyes open fan. I know what I want the Bears to do but I also realize that the reality of the Business will not allow the Bears to make all the moves I want them to. Is there a war that rages in side as a fan, hell yeah. Some days I try to be confident and upbeat and then there are other days that I realize we very well may be screwed. In other words, I'm just a typical Bears fan I guess.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Hey Canada, I agree Brown Will find a new home, soon. I do think it was time for a change, although I hope Izzy is up to the challenge, but I think he is. As fans we get attached to certain players obviously, but they do come & go, as we know. I like some of the changes so far, and I hope we keep going!!

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

CB..It's not the about the players I'm pissed about, it is the disappointment of management and not having respect for one's self including how you deal with players..respect to me my friend is earned and not given. Guys like AB respect the the Uniform,Tradition,Excellence and History that embodies "THE BEARS". The disrepect that this management has for the players is what I'm pissed off about.

Not that we lost a pro-bowler, we lost more than that bro we lost respect for the gladiator that wore that uniform with honor and heart. I'm placing this clip because it just reminds me that..yeah they play for money but they also play for the pride of it.

Especially when you talk about one of the deepest in tradition of the NFL... THAT'S RIGHT THE MOTHEF!@$#!@$#CKING BEARS!!!

oh. AB will do just fine and God Bless him were ever he lands, he will be o.k. but what kind of respect do you have in the locker room now? When you had one those players that did not bend over and say thank you sir may I have another..no you have a locker room of FU!$!@$ING LDL BFF Clubster's..who are afraid that if they don't tow the company line they maybe next..

He but thats me, I have always been for the underdog who does not tow the company line..

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I agree with most of what you wrote. I think the Bears mgmt respects the players. Respect for Nate kept him on the roster for one year too many. Same with Tommie. Almost every player on record says they respect Lovie. Not just Bears but other NFL players that have nothing to gain by saying it. I think JA is very fair with players. They are usually up front with them. The problems are JA is a lousy GM and Lovie is a mediocre coach. It does seem like they get rid of the high character guys.

    Go Bears!

    Just fucking dumb.

I'm actually with Mikedot and Spawn... I'm totally fine with releasing him for performance/money reasons (bad loss to the lockerroom, but biz is biz). My big beef is that we got absolutely nothing but cap room in return. Just fucking dumb.

JA/LS just simply can't muster the brainpower to ever do anything at all strategic. I mean, really? We couldn't have gotten anything in return via trade? Really? If we were NE or the Jets, or even the redskins, something smart would have gone down and we'd all be smiling instead of pissed off. Shit, I

  • In reply to MB30SD:

well, not cap room this year, but math is math.

They signed him Joseph, because they are ready to trade him. The Lions, Bears and the Eagles have shown interest in him. But I would give no more then a 5th rd pick for him. I have heard conflicting stories on Sims, so I just am not sure about him. Remember there are going to be more players released as we approach the draft, so who knows what will become available..

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

This guy Sims is probably the worst guy to hit the market so far ... at any position.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Now we have to draft a safety, tackle/guard, or defensive end. Oh, a reciever would be nice but I don't think we can find one in the later rounds. Any holes I am missing? We might as well draft another tackle since Tommis Harris isn't really back.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

no one was going to give the Bears a pick or player when they found out that the Bears would just release him if they waited long enough. No sense paying for what you can get for free.

It amazes me that they think they can get the 2006 Mark Anderson and Pro Bowl Tommie Harris to just magically show up out of nowhere.

  • In reply to BTiff:

Exactly what McDumb is doing to Marshall in Denver ...

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    And yeah, I know... you

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I am with you MB. I dont believe the money saved will go towards a veteran F-Safety, although it should. Looking at our track record, it is hard to imagine anything good coming from this move. I think they are just trying to re-coup some of Peppers salary! I want to believe there is a master plan, but history shows it is Not in the cards. But Hey, like Trac has said, the offseason is not over yet, so maybe the Bears will surprise again like they did with Peppers, Cutler & Taylor. BEAR DOWN! GO BEARS!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Can someone think of one reason why the Bears didn't shop AB around before leaking his release to the media and AB himself? I've been trying to think of one tactical advantage of such a move. Got nothing.

  • In reply to crowntheirass:

Crown, there is No Good reasoning behind the parting of Brown & Da Bears, NONE! It only strengthens the ineptitude of our management team. Although I am not too happy, I Will be there in support. But with some real bothersome questions involved, with this management.

No greenhorn to be thrown into the 'Black hole'. Vet safety to be signed, draft THE stud next year. Mightn't be a bad idea for Angelo to trade down - he's good at that - we don't have enough picks as it is to rebuild. Or work AB and someone else into a position where we have three third round picks - 2 O-linemen (and a big old lanky receiver for Irish ? Lobo's getting two guards. Just sayin'....)

  • In reply to MB30SD:

They're Lovie's picks if he wins this year ! Just sayin .... people think like this is Lovie's last year .. why ? 9-7 and he keeps his job.

  • holy crap Blogfather...I can only pound the keys so fast before the new thread is up!!!

  • I am going to re-thread this because I believe this is just a smoke and mirrors that this Managemant is sending out to the reporters..

Bear Brothers & Sisters(if any)..including The Blogfather are you really surprised? I can go back in threads remembering us talking about "The Shell Game", "Clown Car" "Douchebags" do I need to go on.

It just chaps me that we get pr#!@ked teased by these assholes and take it.. inlcuding me. I will not go positive, because this management does not deserve a break any longer, and from this point on I will second guess everything they do and their motives.

MM.. I hope that fire ants nest in your private regions and infest for years to come.

TP..I have nothing for you becasue you are not worth it. I am still trying to figure out what.. as DaCoachMustache would say "What sexual Act would you be". I am thinking you are an alley cat getting ganbanged by 15 Pitbulls on the front lawn.

JA..you my friend remind me why witch hunts were so popular...you are the "DEVIL".

LDL YOU SUCK!!! your coaching skills remind me of a my college days ..... after a weekend of partying and then starting to stumble out, we find that someone took a dump in the corner..That's you! cold, wet and stains for days to come and lingers even longer..you need to go!

I was understanding about a possible trade for AB.. But to play this out they was it has been done is just typical BEARS MANAGEMNT. I understand about age, not personal it's just good busienss etc. But look at the pattern of cutting out the heart of this team.

TJ...Offense...Leader in the huddle and passionate.. Heart

MB...Defense..Leader in the Back field ..General on the Field. Heart

    NV..Defense..Experience..Ball Hawk..Passion..Heart

    AB..Defense..Motor..Not in LDL's LovieFest BFF..Heart

I know they all may not be Pro-Bowlers but if you have a TEAM believing in themselves you don't need pro-bowlers. You need gladiators believing in themselves that they can win. This upper Management does not do this. Even one of our most glorious years 1985 they all had heart, may not have been pro-bowlers but had HEART!!!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Lobo, if the Bears win the season opener in convincing fashion, will you still be mad? I think up until this year the wheels came off the wagon from a fans point of view. This team has made allot of changes and it's going to be a crap shoot no matter who we sign, release or draft. Unfortunately we cannot morph through a worm hole to opening day. I suggest saving our utter disgust and blind rage for Sept. just in case.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Trac, taking your own advise, lets see where we end up this year, before we sink the ship, huh! Keep the Faith Brother, but an open mind as well. GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

This is NOT the year to try to move up in the draft! We are too short already with picks this year, and there is nothing guaranteed. WE should grab what we can in free agency, then wait for next years full compliment of picks, LOL. Think about it, we already lack a 1st & 2nd rd pick already. Why trade away more?? Unless we have someone to trade for good picks, we should avoid it this year.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac..we win the opener it's because agains't all odds our gladiators have heart...as for the managemnt and coaching a firing squad in my book!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Opening day will tell us all. Just like last year, when our new and improved O-line played like retirees and our secondary was pants ... this year all eyes will be on Tommie's snaps. And Jay. His team-mates should get together and buy him a bottle of champagne for every pass he puts into the bleachers. Seriously. Incentivise the guy to throw it away. That may be a real word. I just hope it's the Packers again and that we put such a hurting on them that we don't hear any smack for a few years ...

  • In reply to nicholsra:

I say yes but only if JA is certain the player they want will be available and that whoever it is I better see him in the starting lineup making plays.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Sorry Trac, but NO WAY should we mortgage next years draft as well, for an un known comodity. We have other options in free safety to get the job done. Settle down, dont be so quick to part ways with more future draft picks, LOL.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

No-Way, should we try to move up in this years draft! For one thing we dont have Shiht for picks as it is. Next year we will have our full compliment of draft picks!! We dont have shiht this year in the draft, lets not turn it into multiple years of not having good picks early, stay put. We can get this shiht done in F-Agency, with an uncapped year, if we choose to. With the release of Alex Brown & Vasher & Ogunleye, we have freed up about 10 mil in salaries. Lets just go out and get the few pieces needed, via free agency. How about Atogwe(the best fit). Or Sharper if we want to save a few mil at 5-6 mil. If we are in it to Win it this year, we need to hit F-Agency & get some good veterans to get us through the next few years, while we train our rookies.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF..the only way that works if we have a mind sweep done on JA/LDL and they start playing chess rather than checkers.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

I have been hearing some slights against me, imagine that?? But I dont care, say what you want. I am hardly insecure, nor care what people think about me.. Bring it on, as I know what I am as a Die hard Bear Fan..

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

The number one fan, in fact !

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

It does make sense. The bears have released Vasher and are or going to do the same with Brown. Why release them if you have an uncapped year? They must be making room for someone.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Yes finally, someone gets it. Thank you Bears85Sweetness23, thank you.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I just hope its not just Peppers salary that they are making room for.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Why? If it is uncapped then why make more room for someone who should already be set in stone. The Bears love to play with our minds so, we will see.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Yes its an uncapped year but what good would it do for the following year to have to just tell everyone not to bother showing up because there's no room under the cap?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

And there she blows, Trac, there she blows ... there lies the rub my friend ...uncapped DOES NOT mean 'no budget' ... Ginnie doesn't shoot gold ingots out her chute ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

  • Doc, you are right as far as what a higher draft choice will cost us. I cant see what Atogwe or Sharper does, that scares the Bears off. We cannot give up any of next years picks, the fixes are out there if we choose to spend a bit more $$. The Bears have to get more done in free agency, that is the truth.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

If we addressed our OL and FS posiitons, next year's #1 traded for B. Marshall puts us as major dick swingers in the NFL. My $0.02

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

You got that right, MB. EXCEEDINGLY tough.

    "Lovie Smith...do your magic", Bears85Sweetness23 ?

Sorry, guy, but the only "magic" trick I see Lovie perform with any regularity is to make the WRONG players DISAPPEAR!!!!

There goes Thomas Jones. "Poof!" Gone!

There goes Chris Harris. "Poof!" Gone!

There goes Alex Brown. "Poof!" Gone!

    "Magic" my BUTT!

Question for y'all as America wipes the sleep from her eyes ...

Remember the team spirit shown by the defense in Arizona that Monday night ? They were a zillion points down. Rex Grossman was being a fuckwit. Nobody in the world except those defensive players knew we'd win that game at halftime - just to spite Grossman. Where did that Never Die Easy Walter Payton attitude go ? Was it Mike Brown ? Sign Mike, let him retire as a Bear. We could use the help this year.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Mike. Fucking. Brown.

Won't ever happen Irish. Would bring a tear though... it really would.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I loved Mike Brown. The Bears miss him too. We all do.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I went to bed early that night because my grandpa was like go to bed.. this team has never had a quarterback and never will but that night.. we had the defense that made people scared.. Where did it go..

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Now that Brown has officially been released, I have to reiterate my original point about how stupid it was that they leaked the fact that he would either be traded or released. Fucking stupid.

Secondly, and I hate to bring this up, but I almost lost my shit reading through some of the posts going back and forth. Thanks to Doc for straightening things out. Someone mentioned it above, but the fact of the matter is, you better be able to take some shit if you are on this blog. Dont take it personally...My friends and I make fun of each other constantly...and the meaner it is, the funnier it is.

  • In reply to Dmband:

But like 75% of communication is non-verbal right ? It's like when you write a long text or an email - it's hard to interpret tone sometimes ... although, yeah, if your beef gets corned because an icon doesn't like you ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Hey, I saw a Spanish Bear! Welcome back amigo! (sorry if you've been here the whole time and I've just missed your posts)

Also appreciate MikeBDot back - one of the real old crew. Always good to have a true contrarian in the mix!

Regarding Alex Brown, although I'm going to sound like an apologist for management and I surely am not that - I'm just not that sure that the vitriol and disdain about how our management handled Alex Brown is all that valid. What I am surprised about is that there is apparently general concensus in the NFL that Alex Brown is not worth $5MM per year. I would have thought he was. But rest assured, if he was, the Bears would have been able to trade him, because that two year contract is ideal for a guy of his age.

So how much is Alex Brown worth? Maybe the answer is $3MM. If that's the case, the Bears options were severely if not completely limited. They could have worked a trade where they eat the difference, but I can see why they wouldn't have wanted that. They tried working straight up trade offers but it's clear no one wanted AB at that price PLUS what they would have had to give up.

So what else could the Bears have done? If they had no options because his market value was not what they had agreed to pay him, get mad at them for overcommitting on that contract, which occurred some time ago - not for taking the only step they could to address the fact that he was about to be overpaid.

The proof will come out now - as to who signs him and how much they pay. If he gets signed for similar money, THEN we can get the spears and clubs out, because it would have been clearly mishandled. But if he signs with somebody for significantly less, then we are wrong about bashing them so strongly on this.

It is easy for us to say "who cares, it's $5MM, it's an uncapped year..." - but it IS a business, and they don't have unlimited resources, and they have to apportion. I would have thought Alex Brown might have been someone you decided you could overpay for, but if it's overpaying by millions...

Gennelmens, start your post bashing engines! I'm ready!

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

I can half-see their point. Maybe 5 big ones *this* year wasn't a big deal, but it was the 5 next year and the year after that might have been their concern in terms of the kind of production they might expect - although you would think with a healthy Harris/Chili on the right side that he'd have a field day occasionally ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Phil-

Perhaps Im old school when it comes to negotiating, and your original point regarding why they would want to leak the fact that they would release his was well taken.

I am of the belief that if you are truely looking to trade someone or get some value, you have to AT LEAST give the impression that you want to keep the guy...it just gives the impression that he is desireable. I mean, what does it say about a guy who played 8, slightly above average seasons here and for 5 million (which is really not that much money) the bears are looking to part ways and get nothing in return?

  • In reply to Dmband:

I totally agree DM. I was furious over how the Bears handled the Brown situation. They should at least have gotten a 4th rd pick for him, but they just give him away. J/A has never heard of poker I guess. They should have tried to trade him, right after the Peppers signing, not after the market cooled off?? The kicker is how stupid they were to tell the league they were going to release him anyway? How Stupid is that? The Bears' brass never ceases to amaze me in Stupidity!

  • In reply to Dmband:

Well, on the Free agent Safety front the Giants have signed Safety Deon Grant, so he is now off the market. That leaves Atogwe & Sharper, unless we look to the draft for our F-Safety. I probably wouldnt mind drafting one, if we had a 1st or 2nd rd pick. But we dont choose till the 3rd rd, I dont think that is good enough. We need to address that position in free agency. We need a proven guy this time. We have wasted enough lower picks on that position over the years, and we continue to strike out. I would even go as far to say we should also get a guard in free agency as well. Then we can get some youth in the draft at O-Line,Cornerback & Safety. We need help now, not a project, which is what we will get with a draft pick that late. How about Mike Brown, bring him back for a few years, and he can retire a Bear. He obviously could step right in & not miss a beat, and could help out the younglings. Just some thoughts, during this dreadful break from Football.

MB, I have no idea why I'm in the middle of this counseling session. Everything I have posted here has a comedic tone first. I purposefully do not use LOL's because hopefully my text makes it somewhat obvious that humor or sarcasm is behind my comments not personal attacks. I have never tried to put someone in their place by belittling them or by making fun of them in a spiteful way, which I might add a lot of people have been doing to Fan. My comment concerning Doc was an attempt at humor which should have been easy for you to assume based on my comment below.

Jeez Francis, lighten up. +100 if anyone know's where that's from.

Ken Hamlin was released today by the Cowboys. He's 29. Any interest?

  • In reply to BTiff:

Yes, sign him before we think about it too long.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I dont know much about Hamlin, other than his name. Does anyone else have any info on this guy?? Is he a upgrade or a downgrade?? Seriously.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

btw, check my 3rd sentence Trac... if that shit isn't funny and sarcastic, do no what is!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I only suggest losing to inferior teams. I am only interested in blow out victories from da bears. I see many of them coming!! I can see the Bears dominating their division. Keep the dominance going!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

We need someone to stop those 3rd and longs from getting converted at a 80% clip and some push from the O-line for our running game might help too. Real tough division, we need to shore these holes up. At least enough to contain the flooding and giver ourselves a chance.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Amen Z, The 3rd and longs given up were brutal last year. I am hoping with the addition of Peppers & Urlacher & T Harris coming back healthy, should give us a boost. But continuing beat a dead horse, we still need a f-safety.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Trying to focus on some positives today, instead of the bad & what is yet to come worries. I was really impressed at the Bears getting Peppers & Chester Taylor, the top players available at their positions. I have to be honest. There was No Way I thought we would go after Peppers, he is just too big of a prize for a team like the Bears to go after. But they did and I am really excited to get Peppers on the field. He is going to make a Big Time difference for us. Not since the great hall of fame snubbed Dent, have we had a D.E of this caliber. Tommie Harris is not having to rehab this offseason for a change, so he should be in good shape for us this year(hope). Tommie teaming with Peppers is going to be fun to watch, I Hope. Urlacher coming back healthy is big, we missed him bad last year and it showed. He didnt have the wear and tear on his body last year, so he should be in great shape. According to the Bears they plan on resigning Pisa as well. Zack Bowman had a nice 1st season with 6 picks and I see him continuing to improve. O.K I have to throw in 1 negative, we need a F-Safety!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

I'd say Cutler was a way bigger signing - Peppers best years are obviously in the rear-view ...

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

I love Doc. So that's at least one!

DMB, I think you're right generally in negotiation, but remember that for every single NFL player that's ever been floated out in trade negotiations, there's the implicit assumption that you no longer need his services. So I think the "poker face" angle is probably very overrated with respect to player trades. Everybody has tape on everybody else, and the only intangibles might be whether a guy is a good performer but a locker room and practice field cancer, and everybody knows Alex Brown was neither of these. He was a real leader.

And Mikeb and others, I disagree with the sweeping comment of "how good can AB be since the D sucked" - it's 11 players out there and just because the overall product was poor doesn't mean all the players are automatically and definitionally expendable. You can argue specifically that AB isn't good enough to cry over but that general argument doesn't wash.

And thanks to somebody for pointing out what it's easy to forget - we get back a healthy and rested Brian Urlacher next year. Realize he's another year older, but still, he may shock us with one more great year in him. And that would make a huge difference for our D.

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

I read somewhere it probably extended his career by two years, sitting out last year ...

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    Johnny Dangerously....BOOM!

  • In reply to Dmband:

It had to be the agent. The only person who benefits from this scenario is the agent. He doesn't get his pound of flesh if Brown gets traded, only if he walks and signs a contract with a new team. Fuckin agents.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

The Cowboys have released Flozell "Tripping Machine" Adams and Ken Hamlin today. If Flozell can move inside this wouldn't be a bad pick-up. He's 6'7 340 and still has 1-2 good years left. But that's what we thought of Orland Pace...ugh. Not that it matters but Adams is a local guy, he went to Proviso West in Maywood, we played those goons in Football/Basketball/Wrestling back in High school.

Hamlin is a couple years from a Probowl selection but his play declined after he signed a large contract I guess. Sounds like someone we know who's name rhymes with Slasher.

Not great moves but hey why not...this organization has made stranger moves *cough* *Alex Brown* *cough*

  • In reply to Joseph:

Wow Joseph, the guys on NFL Network just said the exact same thing about Flozell Adams as you did. Good call buddy!

I think I've lost it...is it time for Training Camp yet?

  • In reply to Joseph:

The Hotel ? For a bargain, he can ride the bench anytime as a backup or compete for RT. He's got to better than OMG for a season ... would he sign for that though ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

September 10th 2006, the bears are the best team in the league and have just finished humiliating their oldest rival. Fast forward to today, of the 22 starters in that game only eight remain on the team. When they let those fourteen go they recouped 3 draft picks that they turned into Garrett Wolfe, Zach Bowman and DAN FUCKING BAZUIN. I believe with all my heart that even with the big first day signings the team is worse now than at the end of the year. Even if its a matter of money do they realize they could have had Brown and Kampman for cheaper than Peppers? Do they realize that Anderson is not a good player? Do they realize I'm in an Muslim country where its illegal to drink? Fuck me Jerry, I'm pissed!

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

With you all the way Nagurski. We weren't 7-9 last year on accident. We weren't 9-7 the previous year on accident either. What has changed on D? + Peppers, + the Smurf, - Wale, -Vasher, -Alex Brown.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Sorry for being dumb Trac but who's the Smurf?

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

    Jennings

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Clarification was required - it could have been one of our receivers ...

  • In reply to PhilfromSATX:

    MB-

Probably should've scrolled up and saw you already wrote that.

Anyways, "Maroni" became the general nickname for all of my Italian friends.

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

Hey Doc, thanks for your honest response to me, I respect your opinion. You make good points, I have gotten carried away at times, and I am Sorry for that. But Realize I dont start anything with the fans on here, I have acted harshly only in defense. But I realize that 2 wrongs dont make a right. But anyone with an open mind, would have to agree I get alot of shiht on here, for no good reason. I am getting picked on for the same thing many of you all do an a daily basis. I have become gun shy, I admit it, and I know I should rise above that, but it is hard. You are not dealing with what I go through, everyone just loves you. I chose to post here because By Far this is one of the best blogs as far as not being totally negative all the time. There are some good Bear fans here. All I want to do is converse with you all and talk Bears!! Not have to sit here and defend myself everyday over stupid trivial things, I mean come on? I have already changed things that some of you harped on me for. Like putting a space after my sentence also not saing Bear Down or Go Bears after every post. Even though those are ridiculous things to ridicule someone for on a Football site, I still worked on it. But Everyday it seems like something else negative is thrwon my way. You want to talk about going crazy? I am not into acceptance, I am secure with myself. I dont care if someone doesnt like me cause I am not a teacher, or great with grammar. All I ask is just keep your thoughts to yourself and dont read it. None of you know me obviously, but I am a pretty cool, laid back person. I love Sports and especially Da Bears. I just want to shoot the Football shiht with other Bear fans, Thats all. I apologize to all the people on here that I disrespected, while in a defensive retaliation, because of things said to me. I can forgive and forget and I really am sorry. I hate to have to argue with fellow fans, we are on the same team, whether you like me or not. Thanks for the feedback from all of you, I do appreciate it, and I will do my best to be a better person. So lets get back to Football, OK! BEAR THE FUHCK DOWN!! GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

Hey Nagurski, Just wanted to say thanks for what your doing over there. My son came back from Afganistan (Konduz) last Nov. and said the same thing..can't drink..boring...really sucked! He said Iraq was much more fun (if you call doing door to door searches fun).
I would like to think that LDL&JA have someone in mind for free saftey. The more noise they make that as to what they are doing the more the price will go up at purchase time. Maybe just maybe: Better to keeps one mouth shut and be considered a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt. However, in these guy's cases the latter part apply's more often than not. But ya just never know.

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

Come on Bears, make the moves you need to make, O.K. Free agency in an uncapped year, it is just what we need. LETS GO BEARS!

  • In reply to luftwaffle:

Question is do we want Brown and Kampmann's bust knee instead of Peppers ? I don't. Brown isn't Peppers, nowhere near. Can Aaron Kampmann walk ? Marinelli is jazzed with Anderson this year, just sayin'. And how does a guy who's not a good player get 12.5 sacks his rookie year ? I know he hasn't done much since, but obviously he has potential - I guess you can say that about anybody ...

Literary gang bang. very nice johnny. 25 points.

As for JW, league minimum... what's that $300k? Fucken a why the hell not? In a NY minute man. Gets us a WR that's 6'3" 220, runs the 40 in under 4.4 and has something huge to prove.

If he's sucking by game 3 or 4 put his sorry ass back to be a tackling dummy returning punts for a while.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

6'3 !? Performance-related contract, fuck yeah ... talk to the guy, kick his tires. Of course they've already said they're set at receiver so there's no way Lovie admits he was wrong. Then again Angelo hates him ..

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

I liked AB a lot. Solid as hell, but he was not a 'star'. We gained a 'star' in JP so the net result on the DL is a plus. The LB's net result will also be a plus with BU coming back. We still have 5 months to get a FS. And even if we don't the DB's will not be *worse* than last year. I'm good with the improved 'D' for 2010. A solid FS would be gravy.

On 'O' at the skill positions we gained a semi-star RB in CT which cannot be over looked, along with a healed up MF. I am going to count Aroma Sho-do as a 2010 addition since stubborn-ass LDL wouldn't put him on the field in 2009 until injuries forced his hand late. Plus a road-grading TE. So the net result on O is a plus. I am not estatic but the bears geetting significant upgrades on both sides of the ball is better than I expected. Let's see what comes next.

And IMO, other than trolls and Grossman supporters, no one should get major shit on this blog. Crackin hard on folks for grammar issues only stifles blog input and with 4 more months of off-season left, I NEED SHIT TO READ!

  • In reply to Oaktown34:

Having Brian back will totally be an improvement to last year's train wreck on D - I can't wait. He'll be full of beans and 100% fit, it should be awesome - it's like trading the third division muck we had at Mike for a pro bowler ! If we had Williams instead of Roach in there I'd be psyched about all three LBs - when was the last time that happened ? Correct.

We need two Joe-Bobs before I get excited about O.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Scrap that, Joe Bob sucked. I'll take two Matuszaks ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And for all those who, like Lovie, think we're set at receiver ... Johnny Knox is returning kick offs - how long until somebody puts him in hospital ? Ditto Hester on Punts. And Hester is our SENIOR receiver. Blech. What did Cribbs sign for ? Seven dollars fifty and change I think ...

It's not that the Bears were misers ... they were just f***ing morons in how they went about spending it - and if the accountant and the guru and the Shrimp boat man can't get it right Mikey boy ... kill yourself.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Exactly. I was a big, bring in Cribs guy a couple months ago, remember? Everyone gave me the stink eye. Bastards!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I love him as a runner, KR, WR, he's awesome. Signed for less than $2 Mill ?

  • In reply to Oaktown34:

I watched North Dallas Forty for the first time again in years last night. I'd love to see John Matuszak grab Ted Phillips like that if he ever went near the locker room.

For Alex Brown ... every Bear fan in the world is shaking their head today :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGsL8Pey_l8

  • In reply to Oaktown34:

    Oak,

It looks better on paper for sure. The only thing that I usually don't take into consideration before a brand new shiny seasons starts is injuries. Last year everyone was psyched and thinking suuuuper bowl with Jay at the helm.

    I

  • In reply to Albertintucson:

So the day after our big signings there is no team that we could have traded Alex Brown, Nathan Vasher and Kevin Jones and a 4th round pick to for a 2nd rounder? Maybe a crappy team with a bunch of holes for maybe a pretty high 2nd rounder? How about our 3rd rounder in there for that 2nd rounder? Anything?

Did they even try? Ask around? Talk to eachother about it? Did even one of these imbeciles have any random thought relating to anything except just getting absolutely zero for Brown in any way, shape or form?

Did they just randomly pick which guy to get rid of each week or did they know ahead of time? These guys probably curl up in the fetal position and start sucking their thumbs and rocking back and forth at the sight of a chess board. PATHETIC

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    points 50 you get

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Hey Z,I have to agree. Another blatant demonstration of stupidity from Da Bears management. As well as a chess board, they likely havent ever played Poker either. Forget a poker face, they just give it away.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Dude, what do you think this is, the NBA? Teams don't make trades like that. Because they're not retarded. They know those players will be available a la carte for cheap. The know they would rather select players that aren't in their 30s or who haven't been hurt the past few seasons or both. The draft is a much more effective way to get talented people and mold them into something you want and in round 2 you can do it for even cheaper than what AB will want.

Round 2 salary for a rookie is like $300K. No risk whatsoever.

  • In reply to mikebdot:

And there are only 2 rounds in the NBA and 2nd rounders rarely make it.

I didn't seriously mean that this actual trade would happen. My point was that there is enough ammo there to pull something off. Alex Brown alone and a 3rd rounder for a 2nd rounder should have happened. If Clark is going to be cut too there is no excuse to not have pulled something off with some team.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

And how is that whole drafting for the position of need thing working out for us? Having a veteran presence to at least compete with the rooks is not a bad thing.

  • When I read Alex Browns goodbye, I couldnt help but feel bad. What a class act he is, a mans, Man. Whether it turns out to be the right move or not, I feel bad losing the Gator Chomp! But one thing that has been hard to realize, is that it is a business & players come & go, so I try to stick with the team 1st over individuals. Unfortunately players come & go in this cut throat business!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF..yes players come and go but you need heart for the engine. Have we any one with heart? we will see, as for the old regime coaching staff at this point in my eyes, it has none..

  • I read about the Lions trying to trade for Seattles O.G Sims. I say go for it, from what I hear from him, he aint worth signing anyway. Apparently he is bad enough that the Seahawks have told him to stay away from the workouts & the facilities. If the Bears werent so foolish as to say they would release Alex Brown anyway, they might have gotten something decent for him. Especially if they would have marketed him right after signing Peppers, when the market was still active!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF..Stupid is as Stupid does...Our Management

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

On March 4th, the Cardinals released Antrel Rolle, to avoid paying his $4M bonus. That's because Bill Bidwell is a mother-f blockhead.

The next day, the Giants swooped in with a $5M 1-year offer and he took it.

He's likely to start and be an impact safety from the get-go.

Angelo had his head up his ass that day, sniffing black pepper off his coffee table.

  • In reply to gpldan:

GP...That's the incompetent crap I am talking about..Even if they had found out less than 24hours before this happened ..you go to Halas Hall wake everyone's ass up and you work until you go FU!@%$!@%ING blind.

I mean I'm sure they did that with Peppers..why the hell can't you do that more than once. Management reminds me of a teenager with his first erection and then his pre-mature ejaculation into his shorts. I mean if you have these players on line then you work through your players and work out a scenerio no matter how it goes.

To lazy to go up on the thread but I beleive someone said that the players need to do there job or they get a pink slip..well does that not work for TP, JA, LDL and the other Bears Management. I mean it is a two way street right??!@$!@#$#!

  • In reply to nicholsra:

They should have taken care of business all in one night like Michael Corleoni did on the day of his nephew's Christening. Why did they send Fredo out to take care of everything? Instead of coming back with a stud free safety, a solid guard or two and a #1 WR Fredo came back with Luka Brazzi. Does anybody remember what happened to Luka Brazzi?

You got it lobo. How does everyone like my new avatar. I got it just for Crown.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

If this draft is so deep and so good. Why do we need to trade up? I mean, I wish we could but we can't. I was loving the defense till we talked about getting rid of Alex Brown. We now have another weak link. AB wasn't the best but we knew game day that we didn't have to worry about him. I think that is why some of us have just a hard time letting him go.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Boys, I just don't think we have any problems on the DL worth talking about in place of the secondary. DL we have starters, good ones. Secondary ? Tillman's okay, strips well. Bowman had more interceptions than all but 4 guys in the NFL last season. And then it's jockstraps. We have two corners and no safeties. One injury at CB = we're fucked. Before *any* injuries at SS/FS = we're fucked.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

irish...you must not question the mad scientist's JA/LDL..It will be fine when they finish the mind sweep on all of us, and we wake up as lions fans..

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

The brain trust really thinks they can simply pick up another Alex Brown in round 4 like they did in '02.

Also, as Larry Mayer mentioned on his normally senseless chalk talk, Angelo has traded down in 7 of the last 8 drafts. It wouldn't surprise me if we don't actually select anyone at #75 or whatever it is. I wouldn't be surprised if we trade down.

All the more reason to lament not getting someone at S already.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Doc, the real reason I picked this temporary avatar was because it exemplifies what Smith and Angelo have done to our team and how we have tipped the balance of power in our division to the stinking queens. Their incompetence is illustrated by the image of a purple Bear locked up in a cage. We have been de-clawed. The Queens have won division titles 2 years in a row and these clowns have handcuffed this team with all their asshatted moves over the last 3 years. Hence the purple Bear locked up in a cage.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

What fucker painted a bear purple and locked it up ? Oh, Dennis Green ... did he rape it ?

  • I know the Bears would rather solidify their roster with the upcoming draft, but they have put themselves out of that option now, as they dont have a pick till the 3rd round. So whether they like it or not, if they are indeed "in it to Win it" then they have to do more in free agency. Because of their lack of draft picks this year. I think that 1 more move to get a F-Agency F-safety is what we should do. There is still Atogwe & Sharper out there. Then we can look at Young Safeties, O-Lineman & Cornerback in the draft. Then next year we Still have all our draft picks again.

  • I am very surprised, that the Bears have shown little interest in Atogwe. As he seems to fit our system the best and he is young. The Bears & Angelo just cant seem to draft Safeties, for some reason. So Sign a Free Agent then.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

As Irish he mentioned, June 1st Ato becomes an UNRESTRICTED FA, he's a RFA right now. So if they don't give him an offer, we can get him for just cash, no picks.

We might very well be interested, but like everyone else, we're waiting till the shackles come off June 1. Sharper is another story. Who knows what

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I know it sounds goood MB. But No Way do the Rams let Atogwe become available for release, No Way. They want to resign him badly, but are just testing the market for him. He will definitely remain a Ram, if a trade is not made..

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

That's the shitkicker #1BF, and my biggest fear. Even if we make him a great offer, they can match it, but it must be a long-term contract.

    "Get a life"???

    Lighten up...LOL...Bear Down

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Plus, you haven't even been on da blog for 6 months...

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hey Matilda, it is what you add to the blog subject, not what you add that attacks other Bear fans. You are NO better than any other Bear fan, actually you are worse, because you degrade other true Bear fans. GROW-UP Kid!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Thats some f'd up shit MB. Protests definitely have their place in this country, but not at a soldiers funeral. Thats just wrong, like the amount of lol's in # 16's posts...

When does the regular season schedule come out? I'm sick of talking about nothing on this site. If news comes out that Cutler blew a fart we'd have a 200 + post conversation on here...

  • In reply to MASOCHR:

Settle down coach. No ones laughing, it is already an old joke on the lol"s. You of all people shouldnt be casting a stone, when it comes to being repetitive. Since You seem to always talk about hand jobs and sexual acts. LOL!!!!!!! Sad that you find laughing offensive, good luck on that. GO BEARS!!

Here, let me do my #16 imitation:

    LOL!

  • In reply to gpldan:

Not very good there sport, but keep practicing. LOL! GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to gpldan:

Well it is official, Brown is Gone, and we got nothing for it, imagine that?? What a bunch of idiots we have controlling this team, but that is obvious by now. I really hope that this is part of a plan to strengthen another weakness, like Free Safety. I just feel bad about losing Brown, it is like losing a brother. He really was a true Bear, even though the numbers werent there. But if we can upgrade from it, then I am OK with it, as the team comes first. GO BEARS!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'll bet it smelled great though ...

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hey Matilda: there is a difference between being a contributor, and being a regulr poster here,LOL. You come around every 6 mos just to harass and badger Bear fans?? I come around every day to support my fans and my team, you are just a Wannabe fan, I Guess!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    BF, take it easy man.

I would also suggest that you also start ignoring the people who don't like your style. Like you've said in many (literally and figuratively) of your rebuttals, if you don't like it don't read it/react to it.

You're going to pop a vessel. Let it all go. You're here, they're here (many longer than me at least) so all the venom, no matter who throws it out there first, just makes this place a less happy place to visit.

And like Doc, or Murph, or Z (can't remember which) likes to say... a big preemptive FUCK YOU to anyone who doesn

    Marc Bulger anyone?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

hey trac...How about a trade of Brown for Bulger...whoops did I say that out loud.!#$!$#?

I am sure that would of gone through the mangements mind before they said they were going to try to trade him.. oh no we are going to release him..hey which is it?

    to late...

getting to your question with out being sarcastic..hard to do right now but ..I agree with Bulger.... he knows the system and can help JC move faster in it.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Don't worry about me lobo. Every once in awhile I get salty or persnickety or grouchy. Just be yourself buddy. Oh crap, did I just say that.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac...hey if we can't be passionate about one of the most glorified teams in the NFL "THE CHICAGO BEARS" then what can we be passionate about brother. We watch out for each other.. today's players, yesterday's players our history, our avatars and the blogster's.. what can I say "WE LOVE OUR TEAM" and I mean OUR TEAM!!! And we will bitchslap any one who tries to throwdown on our Bears.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    OOOOOOOOOOHRAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

  • In reply to nicholsra:

Because JA wants to hear his name being called the first day of the Draft.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

trac..I will run up before Goodell starts to announce the draft and I will speak into the micrphone..
JA see you in two days!!! will that satisfy him?

  • In reply to nicholsra:

    Mark Anderson, starting?

    Been there. Done that.

Robot: "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! Danger!".

Appropriate quote since Dr. "SMITH" was the villain on LOST IN SPACE, which would be an appropriate title for LOVIE Smith's recent "highlight" reel.

"Never fear, Smith is here". Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.

It's hard to trade players after they are released. Have JA and LDL not read that far into their Football Management and Coaching for Dummies books? Scan ahead boys, time is running out.

  • In reply to nicholsra:

And everyone that is bitching about #1 BF needs to figure out how to get him into JA's office everyday and follow him around saying FS you idiot, FS please, how about a FS, you know there is a position in football called FS and you don't fucking have one assclown. And then do it with G's. Over and over and over so that he gets it finally because it may make the difference between having a heart breaking, stroke inducing, disappointing as fuck once again football season and actually being in this thing against a very tough division. So say it again #1BF Shit, I'll say it for you. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's.
    FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's. FS, 2 G's.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Oh yes there is. Add it to the list. Take a ticket big #1 WR. Your ticket says 4 on it. Now serving ticket #1 for a Free Fucking Safety.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

It's amazing to read all these comments on other sites talking about getting Alex Brown. So far, Chargers, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Vikings, Steelers, and Seahawk fans have all said they want him. I feel like I lost my gf and all these guys are trying to get her and I can't get her back. lol

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    Good idea.

    Can we please stop now?

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

    Z......AMEN!!!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

+1 Or Jon Kitna as a better QB, anyone to talk to Jay. And for real, what does Jimmy Mac do ? He's part owner of the Slaughter right ? Pay the dude as a part time QB mentor. Jim likes his beers, Jay likes his beers, Jay can learn a lot from Jim. I don't know how a guy as cocky as Cutler will relate to a fat, white guy who played a little Tight End in his day. Respect is earned. Jimmy Mac would walk in there as the king of Halas Hall. Achievement, legacy, heart, respect, he'd have it all in spades. He'd be perfect. He'd disappear when the golf weather did, but he'd still be perfect.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    +1 to Jimmy Mac

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

And I still want Da Coach as an assistant on the sideline literally just to scream and spit on people that fuck up as they come off the field. Offense, Defense, ST, everybody.

  • In reply to mikemuadib:

Yes ! Ditka for QB coach !! Imagine him last year grabbing Cutler's facemask a few times, screaming him down on national TV having heart attacks every few weeks. Just hope Urlacher wasn't right !

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hey Forte Boy: I am sorry to hear about your insecurities & desperate need for acceptance on these blogs, it is pretty sad. If I dont like a response I go on to the next one. You are hurting for attention I guess, good luck, Chump!!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Ok, so now here is where you begin with the double standards...

You say that you are only here to talk Bears. Then you go on to talk all this personal shit. WTF are you talking about "insecurities & desperate need for acceptance on these blogs, it is pretty sad"

I was just making a light hearted comment about your consecutive posts and your extrem over usage of LOL for a 50+ year old man...

    Take it easy big fella.

    Bears For Life

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hey Martha, what does using LOL, have to do with me being 50+ years old? You seriously need to grow up, you are a sad specimen of human existence.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Hey Martha is my Forte: My long post's? Really, where? You have some serious insecurities to deal with Sport, good luck pal. You obviously enjoy being a shriveled dick.. I can see your desperate need for attention, but you should rely on the ghetto baby. You should not talk with the big boys, till you have what it takes to talk to the big boys then..

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Could be me BF, you might be the proxy piss boy. The Trib board is practically dead. They're a bunch of 'tards on Fan Nation, blind bats on WCG and Omeletpants on CB.COM makes me want to be dead. Just his avatar in fact. This is the best place to talk with fans by far IMHO and I guess people are getting snappy with good news bad news Bears and it being the off-season. I get that not everybody has to lick each other's behinds just because we're Bear fans, but why do we have to attack each other for posting. If someone wants to make a case for Jamarcus Russell going to the pro bowl, respond how you feel is appropriate. But don't jump on a guy and tell him to take his meds and his LOLs and disappear, especially when he contributes more than most. The fact that peole might be sitting there reading, lurking, whatever, and then once in a while and flame a guy for loving the Bears too much. Meh.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Wow, look at you now you fuckin hypocrite. Again, you say "For me it is always the Bears, I dont care what others say" Then you go and write some malicious post about anyone who has anything negative to say about yours.

I made a joke...sort of. You made how many personal attacks on me?

    "Get a life"
    "insecurities & desperate"
    "Chump"
    "shriveled dick"
"rely on the ghetto baby" whatever the fuck that means

Relax and please lay off the personal shit.

This is BY FAR the best place to read, share and discuss opinions about OUR favorite team.

I will refrain from getting into a name calling contest with a 50+ year old FELLOW Bears fan.

I'm chief space waster on here most likely, but I have time on my hands at work and America sleeps. And if nobody contributes then it ends up like 99% of blogs on Chicago Now. No comments. #1BF is getting hammered on here, why ? It's just a blog. He's writing too much ? Go over to any of the other Bear Blogs on Chicago Now and see what's happening. Sweet Fanny Adams. This is the internet, the last truly free country on this planet - don't you guys believe in the freedom of speech ? Is this going to get cliquey ? The more the merrier, vive la difference, we are not Borg. We will not be assimilated. Sing it loud and sing it proud #1BF !! I love my Bears and this is what I think !

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    irish..resistence is futile..

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Hell yeah you are the master chief Irish! But the differnce is that your posts often contain something of subtance for other Bear fans to chew on, think about and discuss. That's more than I can say for some...might be why I post so infrequently!

Keep doin what you do brother!

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

Keep coming around matty. We're witcha.

  • In reply to MatthewIsMyForte:

If you dont like it, it is Simple, Dont Read it!! Just like I usually skip over your responses. It seems as that your Forte, is being a Bihtch!! Come on, grow up and be a man. You can do it, if you choose to.

  • Thanks Murph, you are definitelty a Bear fan..

  • Atogwe'd cost us a high draft pick now, no ? June 1st he's a free mofo ...

  • Can't wait 'til they're peeling Eli's skull off Pepper's helmet and Urlacher dives through the torso. Sorry. God I can't wait.

  • Fucking totally +1 ! Ha.

  • Marinelli has a newly formed boner for Anderson. He has improved. Apparently the penny is dropping. And by the way kids, this is the kid that had 12.5 sacks as a rookie. Alex Brown had 6 last year, just sayin'.....

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Mark Anderson had 3.5 as a backup! I really think it's a push. The kid puts himself out of position from time to time, but so does Dwight frickin' Freeney.

We need a safety to instill fear in the opposing QB from throwing over the head of the linebacker. Nobody on our roster suits that role.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

If we can package Alex Brizown and this years 3rd rounder to get into round 2, I say do it. I would not give up either of our first two picks in next years draft however. That would be more irresponsible than the amount of lol's on #16 bf's posts.

Good article in the sun times about the McCaskey's place among the owners fraternity. Jerry Jones referred to them as "the gold standard"....must be April 1!

But seriously,Can you post something besides Hand jobs, your strange sexual acts & guys assholes?? Really? I would rather read a poster saying LOL, than your sexual references towards men, YUK. This is a Bears Football blog, so lets stick to Da Bears, Capice?? There are web sites for your strange preferences. You should really look in the mirror, before you criticize someone else, you just expose yourself as a hypocrite, LOL(thats for you)!! I wonder how old some of you really are, with these immature comments! If you dont like what a Bear fan has to offer, dont read it then, gheez!! So Please Grow Up and stick to Da Bears. GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I would love to see the Bears draft Tebow in the 3rd round and use him in the wildcat. He can probably be converted to FS too.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Now stop that trac. Inciting the masses just for your own amusement is not considered good manners. Besides, we already have like, 15 mediocre TEs on this team.

    Fucking Tebow.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, I think it would be like trading up without having to trade up. He could be the wild card in the draft if he falls to the third round.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

he's a good athlete Trac, I'm just not a fan personally. He's a 50/50 NFL proposition at best in my mind. He could be really good, or a total bust, or just a mediocre pinewarmer. net/net, we have enough risk on this team. We need players at positions that they're good at and have played thier whole career... not a funky QB that will end up being forced into something else in the NFL.

Besides, I don't like his morals... he has way too many. Sorry, couldn't resist.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Jim Kelly just endorsed Tebow. Said he would recommend him to the Bills. I respect JK's statement. Don't think he would fall to the 3rd round though. I look to see him go in the 2nd.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Who wants to give odds that AB was released to pay for Peppers not a FS.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I'm sorry to harp on this, but now that it's finally happened can ANYONE in Chicago Bearland explain how releasing Alex Brown makes us a better football team?

He was due $5 million this season which won't count against a salary cap, so that's not it. If money is the issue why not get rid of Danieal fucking Manning, an underwhelming, underperforming, un-something else defensive back and his $2 million?

We didn't get a draft pick or another player for him. With him we possibly had the greatest D-Line since the late 80s. Think about it: Peppers, Harris (assuming he decides to try this season), some random nose tackle, and Alex Brown. Damn, I'd love to have seen that.

How, HOW does this move make the Chicago Bears a better football team?

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

It makes us a more economical team. GO GREEN.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Trac you said it. That was the only reason we let him go. Business. The only way.. the literally only way for me to be ok with this, is if we get a great free agent safety or guard.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

My own personal bug bear, and a man who gets none of the flak - Ted Bastard Philips. Like a lot of fans I didn't want to see Alex go, but if we got a good pick/player is return .... and then they just turf him out on the sidewalk ... why ? It's stunning. Did he bang someone's wife ? That's all I can think of. Damn. Goddammit Ginnie look what they're doing to your Dad's team

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, I understand what you mean but I guess I'm just tired of all of our good players going to other teams and we get nothing out of it except to see them excel on another team. Either keep them or get something for them. That's what I meant.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Hey JDawg, you still out there man?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I bet you any amount of money.. he goes to San Diego.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

at east I'll still get to see him play... and he's not in our division.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Bears85, you could be right, as Rivera likes to snatch up ex-Bear players on Defense. I do wish Brown the best of success. As he deserves it, just as long as it is not against my Bears.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I find some of the best Bear fans on here at this site, most are mature Adults, some are NOT! The only thing I can say is, if you want to attack me or others for Grammar, length of comment or LOL(laughing). Or whatever other ridiculous reasons you immature Lads want to use to give me Shiht. All I can say is GROW_UP! Seriously, unless you are NOT a Bear fan, I cant see grown ups having a problem with my comments. This is Football, so teachers need not harp on fans for Grammar. Grammar Police as they are called, are really a joke and they embarrass themselves by harping on fans for it. Football has always been for the tough fans, not the book worm idiots that have to correct everyones comments & Grammar? we are not in school, LOL. So lets grow up and talk Bears Football, that is what we should all be pulling for.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I just heard the Bears have an interview set with Sharper this weekend at F-Safety. Lets hope for the Best!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    Where did you hear that?

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    +1

  • In reply to MB30SD:

It is true. Wow. Well, I guess this is it.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Sorry that story was back in March 2, 2010. SO.. I don't think he is really coming here. Unless you show us the website.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Sorry guys, but the joke was on the April Fools variety, Sorry!!

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Yeah, where ? If it was from Hub Arkush I can fax you a photocopy of ass and ball bag and write $100 on it in crayon. Worth the same ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Nice. I already have one of those in my bank security box I think.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Horrible thought. This Ruskell guy came over from the 'Hawks right ? Don't you just know that he's doing his utmost to get Sims over here. Just like last year, Jerry will attempt to address the LG position and yet again he looks like he's about to screw the pooch.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

It is easy to get caught in the hear & now, I am one of them. But there are alot of players due to be released still, so the Bears could be waiting on some potential players, we dont even know about yet. We dont know the shiht going on behind closed doors yet! Like Trac has said, I would like to remain optimistic about what we can do before the pre season games begin. There are opportunities for a team like the Bears, if we really want to lock down some weak positions, prior to the Reg season. But will we do it? Thats the big question??.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    #1 Rivera's first good signing.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Sharper needs to garner more than just interest from the Bears to drive his price tag up in New Orleans, at this point it seems far fetched that he won

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

Hey Ghost: Most of us Bear fans would have to agree with you. This move does Not make us stronger. Unless there is a plan for a major upgrade at Safety or something. We should all get together & get some billboards going up in Chi Town!

  • In reply to TheGhostofHalas:

Is this like when McCaskey mentioned the hiring of a coach in 1999(don't remember his name)and Ginnie sacked him as President ? Has someone spoken out of turn ? Why the f**k do you put a player on the block and then say he'll be released if there are no offers ? Did that really happen ?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Brown has been released...

...don't like this move at all :-|

  • small but strong point. Thanks Doc!

  • "sucked as a full time starter". In his second year in the league with underperfoming/hurt tackles next to him, yes, he was not great. You're correct.

Anythony Adams had 8 starts that season...yikes. Talk about sucking.

I wouldn't use the word "suck" for Anderson. He was serviceable. And for the low low price of $1MM he may start this season. As compared to $5MM.

We had no rush up the middle in '07. Period. I have no idea what the snap count looked like but I would presume A Brown won the starting job due to increased number of in game snaps in the middle of the year and so if you look at the stats AB actually had more tackles/INTs/FFs. But like I say, not sure on snaps or who opponents were when AB happened to play a lot.

That was the knock on Anderson in rookie year, right? Those sacks were tallied against the likes of Detroit and when it didn't really matter?

In any case, Mark Anderson is most likely in a contract year, so hopefully he'll play hard.

  • Hey Doc, get out of the Cave already, LOL. The Echos might be from your exposure to the media..

  • I've put you all wide ... Angelo drafts a fkn DT .. I just know it.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    agree.

  • I think AB was important to our team Doc and I know where you're coming from. I agree. Now you know why Carolina wouldn't match the Bears offer for JP. I realize JP wanted out but signing a player like JP causes allot of budgetary problems for a team. I think JP will be worth it for the next two years at least but all he does is buy our team some time to rebuild and it's becoming obvious to me that the Bears need to start having success through the draft again. In order for us to have a good team down the road we need to sacrifice some older players that we will not enjoy losing. Unfortunately AB's number got called this time.

  • Man, I love hearing about that Doc, actually makes me kinda broody! (spoiler alert) So what he did he think of Luke finding out about his Daddy ? Is Boba Fett the shit now ? Don't forget to tell him that Boba kills the Sarlaac off-screen because he's such a bad ass ...

Although Empire rocks in its darkness, Ep. IV blew my mind completely and utterly. Changed my life in a profound way. That and the birth of Darth Vader on Mustafar. Waited a looong time to see that.

    Do tell?

  • Only way to watch movies - commentary on (once you've seen any movie 10+ times).Make sure you watch the documentary on the extra DVD that comes with the prequels "Empire of dreams" I think it's called. Awesome.

Regarding the kid, I'll give him a break - he's four. But any kind of failure to respect George Lucas into his 5s or 6s will have to be met with some kind of 're-education'. As Master Yoda might say :

Strong within the youngling the force is not ... but soon, learn its ways he must ...

    Down you must bear !

    Excellent!

  • Well said Doc. I don't really think my original comment (3/31/10 6:40pm) was out of line. It was a light hearted joke...I would joke the same way with my friends. My bad, didn't think it would spiral into this shit. I read and respect your individual opinions and original personalities. Your points of view and writing styles have helped construct some pretty bitchin' personas in my mind...similar to but not quite as colorful as MB30SD's from a previous thread. I enjoy being part of this community of fellow fans of a certain team from a certain town...

#16 I'm not going anywhere and I'm pretty sure you don't have shit to do...so niether are you. Based off of your responses to me (and others). In my opinion, you've proven that you are a real sack of shit. I meant no personal disrespect but you crossed a line. I'll steer clear of you on here. I think the mature thing for us to do is end this shit now. Fair enough?

To the rest of the boys, my apologies, this is the last space I waste on this topic. If I'm just fucking with any of you guys in the future I'll try to make sure I include a J/K just so you know...jk

Hey Matt: Although it is hard, I want to apologize to you for my disrespectful comments I made in defense. I have become gun shy around here since I signed up, someone is giving me Shiht on a daily basis it seems. I feel bad about what I said in response and I am Sorry. I am just a die hard Bear fan, who wants to shoot the football shiht with fellow fans, I dont want to argue. Take care, God Bless!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

I think Crown will appreciate this. I was thinking about Alex Brown and how much I will miss him. I also was thinking about the best win of the season when we played the Queens in week 16. I was remembering how the players all banded together in an attempt to save their HC's job with a much needed win against Minnesota. I was thinking about how well the Defense played in the first half and I thought I would go back to the box score and see what kind of an impact AB had on the game. I was not surprised with what I found. Alex Brown led the D-Line in solo (3)tackles, (1)Sacks, (2)hits on the quarterback and had 1 tackle for a loss. In reality AB's solid play contributed majorly to the outcome of that game which prolonged Lovie's career in my opinion. Wow, what a friend and HC every NFL player wants to play for. Sorry, I just don't get it.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

TO be honest Trac, I pull for them to win every single game. I cannot imagine *wanting* the Bears to lose and give others the chance to talk smack. I knew they'd beat Pittsburgh and Minnesota last year as soon as the schedule came out. When 'we needed to lose' I thought to myself how do fans go through life like that ? Wanting your favourite team to lose ? If they won the super bowl this year I guarantee there would be fans complaining about it. "Oh no - now we'll never get rid of him!"

I'm glad we beat Minny. That game was really important for the development of Jay Cutler. He got his balls back in that game. Had he had a nightmare against Detroit and Minny he might not even be here now. McNabb might have come home, anything could have happened. But he didn't shit the bed, he grew up and kicked Brett Favre's ass .... my boy.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, I should have prefaced how ironic it was that I'm sure Brown was leading the charge to save Lovies job and then he gets the ax come budget time. I would never suggest "we're in it to lose".

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

If I remember that game correctly, didn't the defense let Brett Farve come back from behind? It was a effort on offense and defense that night. Hunter Hillmyer striped the ball to get us another chance to win it on offense and Jay tossed the touchdown to Aromashodu. Not just defense but offense saved Lovie's Job. but great point about Alex Brown.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

85, read my comments again. I purposefully said 1st half defensive performance.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

    My apologies. I stand corrected.

Current day matchups of Tyson-Holyfield and Hopkins-Jones tells you ALL you need to know about the long-running JOKE that is professional boxing. It will continue to be a joke as long as it is controlled by scumbag promoters like Don King and Bob Arum and the plethora of boxing "associations"and "councils" handing out championship belts as fast as they can make up a name for them.
The WBC, THE WBA, XYZ, DoReMi, CIA, yadda, yadda, yada, blah, blah, blah.

    Gents,

First, I still like chuck a lot. He used to be my boy before he crossed the chasm and got crushed 4 times in a row. I read last week that he's trying to make one more run for the title. Sadly, I think the sport has already passed him by with the likes of Loyota, rua, jones (roy), etc

Shogun is going to THROTTLE Machida (got robbed last time)

  • In reply to FQD1911:

Yeah FQ. A little bit. Since I don't give a shit about baseball or basketball, I need something that can sustain me year round till our Bears bring the circus to town.

I'm trying to find time to fit it into my workout schedule too. I've always wanted to do MA, but have never really had time. I've done a couple trial workouts at various dojo/gyms over the last few months and I love it. We'll see if I have time to make it a permanent part of my training regimen. Yeah, I don

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Does anyone really want to watch the Bears Draft? I mean, what will be so exciting about waiting till the third round.... Idk.. I rather sign someone who won't have growing pains, rookie problems, and can play now. In it to win it.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I'm scared to watch the results never mind the draft, all we saw out of last year's draft was Johnny Knox and multiple no-shows.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Oh, I forgot to mention Tommie Harris had 2 tackles, no sacks and no hits on the quarterback.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    500 Points BF. Well done.

  • There, see Doc, we are indeed on the same page. Well done.

500 points you get (sorry, still on the yoda thing. Damn you Irish)

  • Hey Doc, I also introduced Star Wars to my son as well. Star Wars is one of my all time favorites. I ended up buying him toy light sabers and we would battle, he seemed to enjoy it as well as I did(well not that much). The 1st few times he didnt stay focused on it either, but when he became 9 he got into it more. His favorite one was "Revenge of the Sith". My favorites are Return of the Jedi & Revenge of the Sith. Doc, "May the Force Be With You".

  • +50

  • Do you think we need a "Free Saftey"? (I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself!!)

Madd Bear, We definitely need a F-Safety, ha,ha.

    Mmmmmmmmm... yeeeeesssss....

  • I'm watching the re-birth of the Arena Football League. Chicago Rush @ Iowa Barnstormers. This is a fun game!

Too bad these players are more like talented high school players rather than professional potential.

In any case Chicago is kicking Iowa's ass.

Eeeeaaasssy Irish. I really don't want to find out you're a nerd (not that there's anything worng with that).

Please reference my long post a couple of strings ago. I need to keep that image of you in my head please.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Ah okay, MB. I need to get a nerdy image out there on the net though, Y'know ? It might help with my defense at some point in the future, when it all goes Midnight Express on me. Actually, it did get a little bit hairy coming back from Laos one time, MB. Nearly screwed the pooch big time. I had a bag of eh ... stormtroopers, that I didn't want to ditch (why would ditch perfectly good stormtroopers, right ?), so I stuck it down my jockies before coming across the Thai border. Long story short, I was wearing boxers. So I'm walking down this 'alley' in a Laotian market when the bag of 'stormtroopers' starts to slip, and works its way down my combats. This is in full view of a couple of Laotian soldiers sitting down at the end of the 'alley'. Can't stop, can't turn around, any drawing of attention to myself and I'm proper fucked. Proper. Fucked. The gyrations I had to perform to stop the 'stormtroopers 'from making a mass assault landing down over my boot would proudly have taken their place in the Ministry of Silly Walks. I got past the soldiers and around the corner where I was able to 're-adjust' the clones and get my heart rate down below 300. I learned my lesson. I only did it once more after that :o)

    Doc-

The Tyson rant takes it all to a new level...that guy was seriously whacko...He may have actually murdered that reporter if he could have gotten to him.

    Asshole.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Yeah DM, if you tattoo your fucking head and face and you're not a mauri warrior, you're pretty much a psycho freakshow

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Have you seen the documentary TYSON? Amazing! Tyson was saying when he first won the Heavy Weight Title, his "junk" was burning so bad in the ring because he contracted gonorrhea from some dirty skank. Riveting stuff...a must watch.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Joe, a lot like a 5 car pileup my man.

  • In reply to Joseph:

I still laugh about that "eat your children" comment..

You CANT WRITE THAT STUFF! Its genious.

AHAHAHA. "I want to eat his children"

    Come on. Thats awesome.

  • In reply to Joseph:

I heard that Don King is trying to organize Tyson Holyfield.

No joke...they're like 50...but I will still watch.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Carwin v Lesnar will be MUCH more entertaining DM...

I'm even more interested in The Spider (Andersen Silva) v. GSP. Fight of the year. I think the Spider would destroy that Frenchie-Canadian Douche (sorry Canada, I think GSP's an amazing fighter, but he's just such a tool).

  • In reply to MB30SD:

No offense taken! I don't watch MMA but I know who GSP is. Hey a douche is a douche no matter where they are born.

Joseph is correct about the Tyson doc. It is amazing. Not trying to defend the guy but his lawyer did him no favors during the rape trial. Basically his defense was "Everyone knows what he's like so she had no business going with him." There is some truth to that but it makes a really lousy defense in court.

I used to run a music festival and the area was also the home town of the middle weight champ. The night before the festival started the champ got beat in the 12th round on a KO out of nowhere. All the cops I worked with (I was responsible for all the cash at the fest and had cops with me all day/each day) were thrilled the champ got beat. It dawned on me that a lot of those cops probably went toe-to-toe with him in his youth. My point is, almost all of the guys like Tyson grew up REALLY hard and have been borderline psychopaths their entire lives. Not to mention most of them aren't exactly Rhodes Scholars.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Well I might as well look at some positives on offense now, since I talked about Defense last time. Jay Cutler, I am super glad he is our Q.B and he was another super move that was made last year. I see Jay breaking out this year. Especially with Turner gone(yeah). Martz is just what Cutler needs to shine this year, along with Tice coaching the o-line. In my opinion we have some good young talent on offense. We all know the o-line needs to be upgraded and hopefully it gets done. Forte,Taylor & Bell should be a great R.B corps for us. They all block, run & catch well. I like what I saw out of our young receivers last year, there is good speed and potential, that Martz Will exploit. Omiyale should do better at his natural position at r-tackle. We need to find a good l-guard though, probably in the draft or f-agency. In the last two games of the season, Cutler looked superb when he actually finally got good play from his o-line. He finished with 8 td'd and only 1 pick in the last two games & a 115 passer rating. When we give Cutler the time he can Destroy a defense. I am looking forward to his 2nd year, plus the young guys have a year under their belt now as well. I know there are plenty of negatives, but I thought I would walk on the other side of the street today and stick to positives. GO BEARS!!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I read a quote where Childress said the Vikings have No interest in McNabb. That is a relief, as I really dont want to see Mcnabb in Minnesota. I would rather face Favre on that team. I am surprised at the fact the Eagles are even shopping him. Their playoff window is still open and he has 1 year left. Thats OK with me though, I dont have a problem with the Eagles hurting themselves. McNabb could end up with a 1 year sentence in Hell, at Oakland, ha,ha.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

He said that because he knows he can't get McNabb. I always thought he'd come home, he'd be the perfect backup for Jay if that was a role he could handle. I notice a lot of IFs on these pages - but we're still looking like 3rd in the NFC North and with an always improving Detroit sneaking up.

Aside - Bucky Brooks has Mr. Suh dropping to the sixth pick. Where do they hand out 'NFL Expert' jobs ? I think our resident asshat Packer troll could be interested.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Overall I agree with you #1. Not to mention our ST's are the best in the NFC North. Unless Favre has an injury, he's coming back. That front-running media hound will never give it up until he gets a career-ending injury.

If we can get a proven FS and help on the OL, we've got a chance to win the division. If not, it will come down to injuries. I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised by the new O scheme. You and I always have on the rose colored glasses. Hopefully they're in focus!

    Go Bears!

  • In reply to MB30SD:

There are alot of players around the league, yet to be released. I hope the Bears are waiting because they know something we dont. Maybe the Bears know the Rams wont end up signing Otogwe and he will become a free agent?? Maybe the Bears are simply waiting on Sharpers rehab to bring him in, there was mutual interest there. Yeah, I know, wishful thinking here but you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Even though the Bears brass has shown its ability to be stupid and inept, they have also made a few surprises lately as well. I hate the wait and the offseason, it seems to last forever. There is not enough information flowing consistently. Too much time for our minds to wander & wonder.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

I can't see why the Rams wouldn't sign Atogwe - they're going to need a safety and they're not in a position to be getting worse at this point. Unless he's been a bad boy in some way ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Trac - thank you, that sounds like actual good news. Something to look forward to ...

  • In reply to Dmband:

Yeah...the UFC vs. Boxing arguement isnt much of one.

I'll take UFC anyday. Although there seems to be a pattern of guys who make it big, then become bad a fighting (see Chuck Lidelll, Tito Ortiz).

  • In reply to Dmband:

I think boxing vs MMA comes down to age. If you're an old fart (that would be me), you prefer boxing. If you're young, MMA. I don't even watch boxing now. My beloved bride hates it. She even gets mad during hockey fights. Oh well. I didn't marry her to have a companion to watch fights.

  • In reply to CanadaBear:

Yeah, I'm not old yet, but I'm not a young punk anymore.

I grew up watching boxing with my dad and loved it. Besides the fact that boxing has just imploded and lost all credibility as a viable sport, for many reasons broached a few strings back, MMA is also just more exciting. People love blood and KOs and there's much more potential for both in MMA.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

MB, so that must put you some where around middle aged punkdom? Sorry couldn't help it, you forgot to keep your left up for a second.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Hey BF, once the draft is over we will have plenty of options at signing players to fill holes, needs.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Hey Trac, I hope you are right, cause it sure sounds good!

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

I want to know what they are doing but what in hell will be in the third round for us?

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Come on Bears: Make us fans proud, this year!!! Win Baby, Win!!

  • In reply to Dmband:

There is no argument. They're completely different sports. You've got to be aerobically fit to box. Frasier/Ali III ? You will never see a specatacle like that in 3 rounds of MMA. MMA took advantage of a lull in boxing. There aren't any champions left. When white guys are heavyweight champion of the world, you know something is rotten ...

  • In reply to Dmband:

I still can't get ovewr that fight. There was a bunch of us around at a friend's house for the PPV Hoyfield v Tyson I. We were all betting on which round Holyfield goes down, and hten he kicks Tyson's ass in every single round. Unbelievable.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And Don King would sell the tickets to any baby-eating event ...

  • In reply to Dmband:

Thats true MB. As a rule of thumb, I dont fuck with anyone with a face or neck tattoo.

Or anyone for that matter, really.

  • In reply to Dmband:

I used to think Tyson was an asshole until I saw Tyson(2009). One of the best documentaries I've seen. He is one of the most polarised humans I've ever seen. Incredibly sensitive and soft, and then there's the Tazmanian devil side of him. Definitely not a man that can just be dismissed as an animal - there are three sides to every story, and this is probably the first time his side has been told. By him. Manipulated by all around him including that #@!%# Robin Givens - that clip is unbelievable where the two of them are on a tv show and Givens starts acting up. What a #!@#$ she is. I was stunned at how sensitive Tyson is. Clearly the times he was on drugs make for shocking youtube clips. He would have been the perfect boxer
had he not had breathing problems, and would have made short work of Muhammad Ali the way George failed. Frazier was tough, he would have stood up to him if not knocked him out. I found a lot of new respect for Tyson having watched the film - I defy anyone not to choke when he starts talking about Cus D'Amato, or the first time he knocked someone out (for breaking his pigeon's neck). I get you Mike. Losing to a bum like Lennox Lewis must have hurt like hell ...

  • It says in the article how can the guy do nothing for three years and then come and have a standout season. But he doesn't have to standout, just stand up and get hit in the chest four times a game with Cutler's Cannon. And Jay is more accurate than Fatboy Russell.

The lines between Al Davis and Bear's management are becoming more blurred though ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Yeah, I wonder if the guy who wrote that ever heard of a dude names Randy Moss? He also disappeared when he put on the raiders uni, which seems to double as one of those invisible cloak thingys from Scooby Doo or some shit.

  • Trac, good shot.

I'm nowhere near middleage anything yet man. Sheesh.

But I am very mature for my age... unless you ask my wife of course.

  • DmBand - give Chuck and Tito a break man. Liddell is 40 years old, has been the UFC champion and has been kicking ass for over a decade. He is still technically a human being though and that may be one of the reasons that his skills are diminishing. Ortiz was also one of the most dominant fighters of our generation and is 35 years old. I don't know if that is a pattern of making it big then becoming bad at fighting. I love most of your posts man but this one earns you negative points. I will let MB decide how many to deduct from you.

  • Everyone talks about how old Urlacher is but I'm confused. When you see Ray Lewis, you think, wow he is so good and yet he is just as old as Urlacher. So why can't we have Urlacher for another couple of years with the same great production?

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Jebus. I turned 38 day before Paddy's day, hearing Urlacher being called old ... eesh. Last year was a good thing for his career. I think he'll be the main man on the Bears this year, no coincidence that with HH at Mike we sucked more than any other Bear team ever. Perhaps Doc might workout for us how much momentum was lost on every HH collision last year, compared with an Urlacher collision. 30/35 lbs in difference (with Brian's weight gain) ?

  • Urlacher has more sacks than Ray Lewis. Ray Lewis only has a 111 more tackles than Urlacher, which is a given since Lewis has been playing 15 seasons to Urlacher's 11. There isn't much of difference when it comes to freak power.

  • Oh, and I love that murderer Raylew. The guy is just the classic HOF NFL LB and a consummate beast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrnDLXxVoFE&feature=related

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I understand that Lewis is a great athlete but damn it Urlacher is a great football player. I think Urlacher can define a game because I still believe in him. I may have lost hope in others but Urlacher still gives me hope on that defense.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Bears85: I agree and I think Urlacher will have a big year this season, if he stays healthy. He has been battliing injuries the last few years. His body got to heal up last year with his wrist injury, so I think he will be strong this year. Tommie Harris for the 1st time in years isnt rehabbing this offseason, so his health is expected to be good. If we can get a proven free safety and we stay healthy, I like this Bears defense this year, plus if we resign Pisa as well.

Maybe Jeff wins a big prize if we break the Chicago Now record for most comments on one thread but he can't tell us or he is disqualified. Like in Brewster's Millons.

Bark twice if your in Milwaukee Blogfather.

  • I think we definitely need a new thread to talk about. We are all just throwing different stuff out there to talk about. I hate this off time of year. I feel like I need information every day on what is happening, I am sure you all know what I mean. I need some Football!!

  • I was just being a jackass Doc. Not something to make light of, but I did anyway.

He's found Jebus now, so I doubt he'll be a defendant again.

  • dirty who-ers!

  • Hey Doc: I was born and raised in Elgin IL, I lived there for 15 years. I am also a long suffering Cubs fan. But I will always be about Chicago, especially in sports. I am happy with the Hawks so far, and look forward to the playoffs. But my Heart & my Soul are with Da Bears!!

  • you said "rad". Let's bring "Rad" back... I'm going to start using it in my posts Doc.

  • Goodnight, and a Merry Easter to All!!

  • I CAN"T BELIEVE THAT MCNABB JUST GOT TRADED TO AN EAGLES DIVISION RIVAL FOR CRAP (2nd round pick this year, 3rd or 4th round next year).

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5055346

    WTF?

  • In reply to KentuckyBearsFan:

The eagles are stupid. A proven quarterback and now they have to play him twice a year?! Watch McNabb become a beast now. He will make Philly pay lol

  • In reply to KentuckyBearsFan:

Wow. Divisional rival. Good luck beating him out Rex. Not.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

And they'll probably hire Bradford anyway and got McNabb to coach him up in the meantime. Smart.

I know Mac sold his home in Northbrook, but did he leave Chicago ? Knowing his love for golf, probably, but does he stick around for the Slaughter ? While we're all waiting for a safety and Lobo's two guards (& Irish's lanky receiver), who's going to look after Jay ? We have zero player development as it is, so who's there to look after Franchise boy ? Oh yeah, Shane Day ...

  • In reply to KentuckyBearsFan:

My Chicago credientials for Doc: I spent the first 22+ years of my life in Chicago and adjacent suburb, Oak Park. That included 6+ years across the street from The Union Stock Yards and just a few minutes from Comiskey Park.

    In other news...

    I am stunned.

Sure, we KNEW Donovan McNabb history in Philly, but...
to the REDSKINS? The WASHINGTON REDSKINS??!!

You trade your franchise QB to a DIVISION RIVAL?

    Wheee-OH!

If you saw that coming then you ARE Nostradamus!

THAT deal takes BALLS the size of GRAPEFRUITS, brother.

And / Or, a BRAIN the size of a WALNUT.

As they say here in the Southwest, I don't have the "cahones"
(pronounced cuh-HO-nace) to pull off THAT deal.

FOOLS! They'll be very very sorry when Farve goes down early. Bitches.

  • Chicago proper born and raised. Northsider by birth and Southsider by marriage. Hate the Sox and Cubs, love the Bears and Hawks. Deep dish from Lou Malnatis when the wife lets me and plenty on family bbq's and bags on the weekends. Doc, call 1-800-LOU TO GO for some great pizza delivered way out to your neck of the woods. It's not the same as getting it fresh but it is damn good pizza none the less.

  • Never compared Urlacher with Lewis.

Should have said Bear's defense instead of team, the did suck last year.

Anytime I saw HH he was lost. *Every* ex-player thought HH did a great job filling in ? They must have been watching a different guy. He is too small to play MLB in the NFL and hasn't got the reactions/instincts. Compare his stats with Urlachers - what the hell was he doing (apart from whiffing tackles and being in the wrong place). If he did such a great job filling in then why did we have one of the worst defenses ever ? Why did the MLB stats fall way off ? Why was I, and many fans, ripping the guy all season ?

  • Richard Dent isn't in the HOF. I'm just glad Brian plays for US.

  • Fkn Oregon ? What's up Doc ? Never been within 5000 km of the States myself. My dad was offered a promotion and a move to Chicago when I was 13 but I didn't want to go. What a gyp. I get really excited when I bump into someone here from the States who digs football. An actual face to face conversation with someone about football 'sends me home' somehow, and I've never been ... weird.

  • Grossman might be the backup. Cambell hasn't signed his tender yet and if he doesn't.. buh bye and he might go to the cardinals, panthers, 49ers, Bills, and any other hungry team. Rams.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

I'd take Cambell as Jay's backup in a NY minute. Do you know what's he worth B85?

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Right now, you have to give up a 1st round pick to get him.A team would have to match roughly $3.1 million in salary, a figure that is 110 percent of Campbell's base salary. It really depends on what he would want as a backup. A good idea MB

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    McNabb vs. Campbell
    2009 Season McNabb Campbell
    Completion pct. 60.3 64.5
    Passing yards 3,533 3,618
    TD-Int. 22-10 20-15
    Passer rating 92.9 86

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

He would be a great backup. I mean, his numbers are not bad at all.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

But numbers don't throw footballs :o)
TD-Int stats tell it all. McNabb was good at protecting the ball. And if we're throwing a 1st round pick at anyone, it better be at Denver ...

Would anyone here give up a 1st for Campbell ?

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

You just brought something to my attention. If we traded to the second round.. Wouldn't we be able to get Marshall? But then there goes any future guard, saftey,de or tackle.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Hey, we didn't have a birthday thread for Jay ! His Bear birthday - 1 year on April 2nd ...

Happy Bear Birthday Jay. I love you. That was one of the happiest days of my life and I woke up smiling for months. Literally. I know they've been gobshites in building you a line and hooking you up with Brandon again, but certain guerilla factions are doing their best to make it happen for you. Apologies for the muppet show at Halas Hall, Jay, Bear with us .... we love you.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    +100

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, I share your enthusiasm with Cutler as well. Now that he has some actual real time coaches in Martz & Tice, he should have a breakout year in his 2nd season. He did have over 3600 yards in his 1st year with rookie unproven receivers. But he actually did that much in Turners offense? Martz will get Big numbers from Jay this year! I think the Coaching change will be a big upgrade for us on offense and it is flying under the radar, as far as how big that move will end up being for us. We need to secure a good L-Guard still.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

No line, no receivers, no OC, jno mentor, no senior NFL QB, nothing. And his mistakes were all based on the mentality that the team wasn't going to win unless he pulled extra shit out of the bag. He knew he was forcing it, but Ron Turner is gloop guzzler and we had no running game and random receivers, he had no choice but to play Russian Roulette ...

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Alex Barron, the Rams tackle is available until April 15th for a second rounder. Height: 6-7 Weight: 302 Age: 27

    Anyone seen him play ?

Plus, is Beekman our future Center, is that the deal ? Are they 'set' at Center too ?

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

Wow. Scratch that. Barron got a 19 on the Wonderlic ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Wonderlick don't mean sheite for a linemen Irish. For a QB a low score can be damaging (fucking Tebow), but for a hog, who cares.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

They generally score higher than anyone else though don't they, O-linemen ? I want the guys in front of Jay to be smart as well as big. He goes. We goes.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

McNabb going to the Skins is bad news for us. Bad, bad. I thought if he was going anywhere it was the Rams, now they'll have to take Bradford and Suh goes to Detroit. Twice a year our OL will implode like the death of a black hole, against a team we're supposed to hammer ...

    So play with this ....

If we don't *substantially* bolster the O-line, Free Safety and Wide Receiver positions, we could be LAST in the NFC North next year. Not in the payoffs, but as bottom feeders in our division. Hmm.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

I just hope we don't play the Lions first and get embarrassed like we did last year against the Bengals and the Cards. I hope when the schedule comes out the Pack or the Vikes get them before us so we can see how good they are. With our luck we open with the Lions and get crushed. Very doubtful but it could happen.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Let's all take a deeeeep breath. The lions have done a GREAT job getting better this year, but one dude does not a division winner make.

We don't even know if the kid will be the same in the NFL. Odds are he, will, but right now that just conjecture.

My thought is, if that shit does actually go down and DT beats us twice this year JA/LS are definitely fucking O-U-T and we'll get our regime change... but I think we'll be better than we were last year as well (we simply *have* to be), so we'll at least hold our space in the water column.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Very true MB. The Lions are the last team I am worried about. They are improving obviously, but they are not ready to make that next step yet, maybe in a year or two. They are definitely making better decisions in Detroit, then in the past, but they dont scare me just yet.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

The part that sucks BF is that they're making better decisions than us. And no matter how bad we've been, that's never really been the case before.

Makes me angry that JA/LS really are that bad.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I sure am glad that the Lions only got Vandenbosch, instead of Peppers! Vandenbosch actually wasnt the same after they traded Haynesworth, his production went down. The Lions do have potential to do some damage with their great draft picks, but I still see them a year or two away, as their rookies develop.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Suh scares me. Suh with Van Den Bosch. Delmas could be a nightmare for Cutler if he shits the bed again ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

    Couple of things.

I will take my warning, but I dont have to like it. Although I agree, age probably did impact those fighters more than I realize.

Chicago Credentials: Born in western burbs...lived in various 'hoods within the city for the last ten...lincoln park, lakeview..currently a few blocks north of the United Center...

Lastly, Im as shocked as you guys about McNabb...I think that Philly is in for a rude awakening trying to find a new QB. They forgot how damn near impossible that really is. Maybe we are biased because we lived in quarterback hell for almost 2 decades.

  • In reply to Dmband:

It was a very very light warning DM.

  • In reply to Dmband:

OG Rob Sims is a Lion. Ask me if I care.

  • In reply to Joseph:

Oh well, from everything I have heard, he isnt any good anyway. Good for the Lions.

  • In reply to Joseph:

I think if we do get a back up Q.B it will Bulger from the Rams. If they draft Bradford(as expected), that will send Bulger packing with his 3.5 mil contract this year. Martz and Bulger have a good history, so it makes sense, as he will already know the offense. Apparently a few teams are waiting on Bulgers status, but they wouldnt say who the teams are.

  • In reply to Joseph:

The only reason why I want them to start Vick is so someone can break his leg. He cant get injured sitting on the bench.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Here you go DM, just for you: http://www.uncrate.com/men/gear/sports/donovan-mcnabb-washington-redskins-jersey/

  • In reply to Dmband:

Hey DM: That was funny and I share your sentiments towards Vick, for sure!! I for one was enraged at his ring leader role as a serial dog killer!! I will leave it at that, as I dont want to debate about Vick. Only my personal opinion, thats all.

  • In reply to Joseph:

As far as McNabb is concerned, all I can say is WOW! I was thinking he would end up being traded, but NOT to their division rival Redskins? In my opinion, that was just Stupid! Apparently McNabb is already feeling vengeful to play the Eagles, I certainly dont blame him. Kolb hasnt shown Shiht! McNabb was still producing at a high level. Plus they still have that playoff window open, so why dump McNabb now, for a guy who has only seen the field a few times, his win was against the lowly Chiefs. I guess all teams are capable of making Stupid decisions, not just the Bears, ha,ha. I look at it this way though, it makes a possible playoff opponent weaker(Eagles), or it takes them out of the playoff picture altogether. And even though McNabb will improve the Redskins, they are still a year or two away from contending. Their current O-Line is gonna get McNabb killed, you thought our line was bad!

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

That actually made me feel a little better BF. I hope it works out that wsy.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Campbell has a first-round tender on his head that he hasn't signed, and that the Redskins will most likely rescind. According to ESPN 980, several teams are interested in Campbell's services -- the Bills, Raiders, Panthers, and Jaguars (plus an "unknown team") are reportedly in line to make offers.

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

    Yeah, ouch: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Campbell-found-out-about-McNabb-trade-from-repor?urn=nfl,232069

    Talk about no vasoline.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I thought Shanahan would have had a modicum of class not to let that happen ? Obviously not.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

It's all about bidniz this time around me thinks Irish.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

The Bears do have an advantage going into this year, that no one is really talking about. Our rival teams have been used to playing against the predictable pathetic Ron Turner offense. Hell they didnt even need to practice or prepare for our offense, because it was always the same. Martz is an offensive wizard, who is anything but predictable. I guarantee our opponents are very uneasy, not knowing what is coming on Sunday anymore! G-Bay had that advantage last year when they switched to a 3-4 defense. Martz will be creative and will make the adjustments, unlike Turner. I dont have the stats, but have seen them and they are quite impressive for new O-Line coach Tice. When he has coached the lines, they were all very successful and produced impressive results. He had a good record as a head coach as well. This was a good move by the Bears. He is a night & day improvement over Heistand. We do need a good L-Guard still, I hope we get it taken care of. Last thing, Martz & Tice are intense demanding coaches, not like the passive past coaches like Turner, who would sit in the booth & suck their thumb when things were going bad.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

BF, I appreciate your optimism, but you have to bring some stats to back some of this up.

You: "He had a good record as a head coach as well."

Uhhh... no, he didn't. He was considered a cancer and was actually investigated for fraud during his tenure

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I guess I am losing my memory with old age. I remember reading where Tice was like 15 games over .500 when he coached the Vikes? But I guess I am wrong, Sorry. I do know for a fact his stats as an O-Line coach produced very good numbers. That is what we hired him for, so hopefully it makes us better.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Hey MB, thanks for the link with the info. I am terrible with computers, I can hardly handle posting on here. I am older and very old fashioned still. Dont tease me but I am still on dial-up. I dont even have a cell phone! Plus I still write checks. Take it easy on me guys, I know I just opened myself up to get some shiht, ha,ha. They say the first thing to go, is your memory, and it has been going lately. Thanks for the correction, I appreciate the info.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

    I am speechless BF.

Please allow technology to come into your life and save you. Technology saves BF, technology died for all of us... let it heal you.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Dude. Dialup. I live in a third world country and I've got ADSL. Call 911-Timelord and tell them you're stuck in the 18th Century. A blue police box will appear and the guy inside will hook you up. Peace.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Marc Bulger has been released by the Rams...sigh. Can we please not rant on about this topic guys? Does anybody care who are back-up is? Cutler is a goddamn tank back there and his maturity level is just fine. He had midgets with down syndrom running around the field at WR last year, nothing more nothing less.

    Bear Down!

  • In reply to Joseph:

We need a competent back up. We should sign Bulger.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If Cutler goes down, then I would be happy to know that someone can come in and not make me think that we have L instead of a W.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Maybe Jeff is working on this story? I smell some truth to this. We signed JP and next thing you know we're waving goodbye to AB. We signed CT, said goodbye to AP, cut Vasher and signed Jennings, then we "overpaid"(4 letter networks words, not mine) for Manu and now it looks like we're going to be saying goodbye to Clark. I see how this works now. The shell game continues.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Yeah, how does Manu get paid twelve times what Olsen gets paid ? Then again, I don't care, he can block.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

If so, please tell me we get something from a great player. I am tired of our players just leaving for nothing.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

AB and Clark will be gone with nothing to show for it. Two class acts that could still bring it. Fuck you Jerry. Fuck you Lovie. Fuck you accountant who knows nothing about football.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I was just reading an article on Tim Shaw. Tim Shaw is one bad ass cracker. Made me temporarily feel better about how inept Bears coaching and decision making is. Maybe they just plan on having Peppers out there by himself playing against the other team 1 on 11. That could explain why we sign Bullocks instead of Jamar, ignore Pisa, fucking GIVE AWAY Alex Brown, release Gune, promote Anderson with no reason, expect Payne to know how to cover and not drill the shit out his own players, etc, etc, etc, fuck.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Fuck...ed to be exact Johnny.

As in, we are all, as bears fans, fucked until JA and Lovie get the shitcan. They are a fucking cancer and never seem to make the right decision, any decision. They are very capable of making a lot of noise and spending a lot of money... just never on the right strategy, player, or coach.

    We are fuck...ed.

    Please let

I'm using this awesome pic for my avatar temporarily. Is is OK to use a Dick Butkus avatar? I hope its not sacriledge.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Brown to visit Saints... What a crock of Smith.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

not good enough for the Bears but good enough for the champions of the fucking league. lunacy.

  • In reply to JohnGalt:

i feel like the moves in the offseason would help us win 2 more games...but then we got rid of one of our best defenders in Brown, a capable veteran DE in Gune and don't look to be too intent on signing 2 more of our linebackers. Unless Cutty comes out and puts up sick backyard football numbers we are on pace for another 7-9 or 8-8 season. You know that some dick in the organization was thinking that having Peppers on one side would help Anderson get 12 sacks again. Someone better teach that kid the meaning of the word "contain". Everytime i see him out there he is running around like an idiot. He might take the worst angles to the ball and the qb in the history of football. JA, you weiner sucker, at least sign Jamar and Pisa back while you continue to torment us with Manning, Steltz, Payne, Bullocks and my niece as possible safeties for this upcoming season.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

I think a healthy/signed Pisa is the key to this Defense. I think that Peppers and Harris will almost always have to be double teamed(hopefully), and it will free up a flurry of EFFECTIVE LB blitzes and CB blitzes. And you know they will be running to Anderson's side every time, you can expect Pisa to clean up about 120-150 tackles next year.

Also, the key signing so far was Malayalamaunamajiga. All you have to do is pull the guard and sweep to his side with Forte or Taylor and a FB...8-12 yard gain every time.

  • In reply to Joseph:

If only we had a guard that could do that effectively Joseph ... Turner did run the odd c-trap or c-trey, we just didn't have the guys to do it properly a la Joe Gibbs' Redskins.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

If they don't sign Jamar then it will truly have been the mother of all mistakes, Waffle. That guy is lightning in a bottle, and I don't know what his smarts or coverage skills are like but he could be our free safety, he's a bit undersized for a linebacker. I don't like the fact they've pencilled in Roach as a starter, what does Williams have to do to get the job ? Get 30 tackles in a game ? Wale, Alex, Dez have all seen their best years, but Williams hasn't. Why isn't he signed ?

It's strange that between Wale and Alex they didn't keep one of them around - they must really like what they're seeing from the others. Marinelli has had time now to get to grips with them. Five more months ...

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Damn Irish. Five more months is forever. Shit, this thread is forever.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Irish, you and I have been the most vocal Jamar fans, but the dude is in no way shape or form a FS. He'd be the biggest, slowest FS in history and no way he's what we desperately need as a coverage leader and general back there. Jamar is 6

  • In reply to MB30SD:

I thought Jamar was 230 ? 'kay- I'll still explode if they let him go. Like the rover idea, if you've got good LBs, let them all on the field and run amok - bench the safeties !

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

He could certainly play SS on run downs for my money. Kid's got a huge nose for the ball.

  • In reply to hollywood1:

    Home:
Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, New York Jets

    Away:
Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins

Wow. I'll chalk the Bills down as a W ....

    Next year maybe.

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

If they have to play Seattle it would be nice if they had the decency to play them out here on the west coast, so Doc and I can see them beat the 'hawks again.

  • In reply to mikev:

    Whoever's got the I-phone this'll kill ya :o)

Okay boys, yes 5 months is a long time. So here's some good news I hope. Coach Z went missing over on CB.com (or he got a life) so they had a thread about what he thought about Martz. Coach turned up by the end of the thread you'll be glad to hear! Hopefully, some of his thoughts will cheer y'all up, here they are :

    * I for one, am very ecstatic for the upcoming season. For once, we have a true, NFL caliber OC, with a proven track record of success and improvement of the offense wherever he has coached, designing the offense. This is will be the biggest change this team has had in years, maybe in it's history. The Martz hiring isn't a bandaid, trying to tweak an offense to get it back to where it was to be a caretaker to the defense...this is a complete overhaul, a new direction, and an opportunity to create a totally new identity for this team...one where the offense may become the dominate aspect of the team.

    * Whereas Ron Turner usually plays the notes that are on the sheet music, Martz is more likely to play what he feels. Unlike about 99 percent of the play-callers in the NFL, he does not script the first 15 to 20 plays. You won't complain about the lack of halftime adjustments this season. And when his team is in a two-minute drill, he never looks at a call sheet, he once told me.

"You just go by feel," he said.

THIS...is what I'm looking forward to. I despise the scripted opening plays that so many use now. You should be able to adjust to what the opponent is doing within a couple of plays, not wait until your script has run its course.

    * I EASILY had Turner costing us about 2-3 games per year, just from his football stupidity. That element is now gone, and just the intelligence level upgrade from Turner to Martz could turn this current team from a 7-9 team to a 10-6, and into the playoffs. We lost a bunch of predictable plays when Turner left. When it was 3rd and short, and Turner clears the backfield...gee, do ya think it's gonna be a pass? No need for the defense to worry about a run getting a first down now, is there? Gee, another failed deep pass by Turner on third and short as that D suddenly rotated into a pure pass defense just before the snap...time to punt...LOL. We won't have that anymore with Martz. This is a GOOD thing. GOOD things should make Bear fans HAPPY in here.
As I've posted this past month. This is a win-win situation for us. Should Martz and Cutler become lightning in a bottle, this offense will rise from the bottom dregs it's been in for almost an eternity, and this team will make the playoffs. If it doesn't, then Lovie, Martz, Tice, Marinelli and all the rest are gone, and we get a complete new staff. I tell ya one thing. It's gonna be difficult for our players to NOT respect this coaching staff now. The addition of Tice and Martz, suddenly brings a lot of credibility to that offensive staff.

    * Unlike Turner, Martz WILL use counter blitz plays, especially screens and swings. Forte and possibly Wolfe will become HUGE blitz killers in Martz's system. It cracks me up how so many fans in here have stereotyped Martz's offense without hardly any studying or knowledge about not only the system he created, but HOW he calls a game.

And somebody had this as their sig which is well worth sharing :

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
    - Abraham Lincoln

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Hey MB, you are right. But I am on record in believing our offense is going to Surprise everyone this year, they Will outperform our Defense. Martz and Tice were Excellent signings, and the young talent is there. Well, other than some more help on the O-Line, which I hope we take care of. I know the Bears are looking as they were interested in Sims. Just this fans positive opinion, it could happen! I hope it happens. When I think of it, I get excited at the thought of having a potent attacking offense in Chicago. It will buck history's trend, but I think it will make it a fun season. We have a good 1-2 punch at R.B now too. GO BEARS!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Interesting article and comments relating to the value of Brandon Marshall. I know a lot of fans don't want to know about players with 'issues' - but everybody has issues. He just got married (April 1), and has also become a guardian to his first cousin and moved him up to Denver. Let's inconvenience him and move them to Northbrook. He's likely to become a lot cheaper come April 15. A number two from next year's draft would be the steal of the century. Of all the teams that are allegedly up for him, Chicago would obviously be the most attractive from a QB standpoint. Has Angelo been clearing space to pay for Marshall over the coming years, the "we're set at receiver" comments all bluff ? This guy doesn't walk around with a crack pipe and .50 down the back of his pants, he just wants to be loved and respected like everybody else. We're not 'set at receiver'. No team in the NFL is set at receiver - who can't use a good receiver ? Marshall may be the best. As things stand, we have a team of indiscriminate potential for next season, many questions remain unanswered ... but signing The Beast gives us solid hope and bragging rights with any team in the NFL.

What an enormous asshole Peyton Manning is. Plonker.

  • In reply to ForeverBears:

Mike Martz was the OC of the Lions in '06 and '07, so the division is aware of his scheme, however, the Lions with Kitna were actually a formidable passing team.

Key point: When Martz left, they went 0 and fucking 16.

    Detroit Lions
Martz interviewed for head coaching vacancies in Oakland and New Orleans. After the interview, he withdrew his candidacy for the position in Oakland. After initially rejecting an offer due to financial considerations, on February 8, 2006, Martz accepted an offer from the Detroit Lions to be their offensive coordinator and their quarterbacks coach.

    from wikipedia:

In 2006, his first season, the passing game improved considerably, ranking 7th overall behind quarterback Jon Kitna, who had his first 4,000-yard season at age 34. Detroit lost its first five games with Martz and finished 3

I only recently bought a laptop ($200 new!) so I could play poker in bed.

  • In reply to Dmband:

Not sure DM, but what else are they going to do. Vick? Uhhhggg...

From what I saw from Kolb last year when DMc was out for 3 game, I would certainly play his ass. He was pretty damn good for the most part - cept for that crapper against the SB champs: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/eagles_files/html/kolb_1.html

  • In reply to Dmband:

Klob is the starter. Vick is the backup.

  • In reply to Dmband:

  • Don't know that movie Doc, and I like my movies ... illegal download should commence any second now .... shock and horror - there's no torrent available ! I did see that Iron Man 2 and Clash of the Titans are up, so thanks !

I notice it had Billy Connolly in it - one of my favorite all time comedians. Used to listen to his earlier tapes under the covers as a kid. If you can get his earlier stuff, it's classic. He was on some awful shite called 'Head of the class' in America, but dismiss that. The man is a master of the stage/stand up.

You might like 'The General', Doc, about one of Ireland's former notorious criminals who defied both the police and The IRA, Martin Cahill, a character if ever there was one. Also featuring the greatest ever performance of an American actor playing an Irishman. Jon Voight is indistinguishable from an Irishman as Inspector Ned Kenny. He picked a certain town in Ireland and he absolutely nailed the accent.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaIACnfaDI8&feature=related

Kevin Spacey bizarrely played Martin Cahill in an American version 'Ordicary decent criminal'.

  • Here we go boys, we may be losing Clark. Will hate to see him go. I liked him as much as A. Brown. In reading my posts concerning AB I can see where it may have looked like I was being a hard ass at first as I was thinking that with Peppers now on our team, Brown would probably spend much of his time on the bench and I didn't give as much thought to his value as I should have. There is still so much uncertainty concerning this team that quite honestly I don't know what to think, but letting Clark go will definitely send a very good TE to another team. I just hope it's not in our division.

  • In reply to ImissButkus:

Unless we have packed him into a trade that I don't know about. He is staying. I think he may have had a reason for missing or something. I am not worried about it.

  • I read it Doc. Very poignant. At first I looked at AB being released as a business decision but the more I thought about it(and Crowns passion concerning this moved got me to look at it harder) I really disliked the move. Mark my words, this will come back to haunt us if the Bears aren't able to resign him for less. HUGE MISTAKE.

  • HH had one good game by my reckoning, although I only saw six. Stats wise he didn't add up at all in the others and the tackles by the MLB were down like 40 tackles. His whiff on Le Sean McCoy's TD against Philly will live in my memory forever. Whiffing tackles in a one-gap system puts the blame solely on the player, no one else is responsible. Brian disappeared and so did the MLB. It's like our defining position. We didn't miss Pisa - we don't know Pisa, but man did we see the gap in that defense as we got torn apart. HH is the main man when Brian's not there and he was embarrassing at times. My $0.02

I am hearing more rumors about the Bears trying to trade up to get a better Safety. Lovie just had dinner with a prospect, that could go in the top half of the 2nd rd. But How do we get to the 2nd rd, and what will it cost us, for an unproven player?? Just my opinion here, but I think we should salvage our picks and go after a f-agent f-safety. I dont want to sacrifice anymore picks, we have it tough this year, but we need to be fully armed in next years drft, not short of high draft picks again. Especially when you give them up for unproven players. The right man for the job is out there for the taking (Atogwe). He seems to fit our system perfectly and is a proven player with plenty of years left in him. Or if money is an issue, we can sign Sharper who also knows our defense. I feel we should go F-Agency for our Safety. Then use the draft to get Guard/Center, Cornerback and Safety help. I wouldnt mind getting a guard in F-Agency as well. Come on Angelo, BEAR DOWN!!

I've always felt there was a huge market in phones for people like you BF. I programmed computers as a kid, studied Comp science in college, did all that shit, and I think phones are too complicated for 'everybody'. There should be a simple phone, or a phone where you press a button and it 'goes simple' ... reduced functionality, really user friendly etc. They're just trying to make phones like mini PCs now. Phones are for talking. They shouldn't alienate older, or non-techie types. It's wrong when you're afraid to use a phone. They left you behind and that's wrong.

Bible lesson. Book of Revelation. Foretelling the microchip that will be inserted in our left thumbs one day, without which we will be off the grid ... I'm trying to remember the British movie back in the Eighties where this bombshell was dropped. A zillion points if you know it ..

    Revelation 13:17-18.

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

...and then Steve Harris and Adrian Wilson go all Iron Maiden all over it. Metal up yer arse !!

  • In reply to IrishBearsFan:

Until then Im going to quote my favorite poet (besides Bob Dylan)

"Im gonna get my kick's in before the whole shithouse goes up in flames".

    -Jim Morrison

I'll see you guys on the other side. (by that I mean of 1000 posts).

    RE: Trading Up

It makes a ton of sense, of course, especially because I keep hearing how "deep" the draft is...

  • In reply to Dmband:

Ahhhhhh the Lizard Kind DM. I knew I liked you for a reason, now if I only had a bag of weed and a thimble of black tar heroin.

Ok, ok, just kidding about all the drugs, but I do like JM. Saw his grave in Paris. Pretty cool place. Must be fucking waaaaay creepy at night.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    King man, KING!

... dman sepll cecck (see how I did that?).

Gents, where does this come from (one of my favorite movies, characters, and authors of all time): "The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    Fear and Loathing.

    Easy.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Raoul Duke and Hunter S. Thompson.

Played by Johnny Depp and Directed by Terry Gilliam. Yes I fricking love this movie and all of the above.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

    MB-

New Doors documentary is coming out this week (at least here in the Chi) apparently Johnny Depp narrates? Which is pretty cool..

  • In reply to Dmband:

Ha! Nice tie in to my trivia question above DM.

Depp is one of my favorite actors, especially when he teams up with that brilliant evil genius of a freak T.burton. Goooood stuff.

I can do without a lot of the trendy, mainstream pirate stuff though.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Mr. Depp is hit and miss for me. Blow, yes. Charlie and the chocolate factory, uh-uh.

How about that Andy Reid. Just two weeks ago claiming that "McNabb is our man." and "he's not going anywhere." - then getting the flush for a 2nd rounder.

Have another donut Andy, you fat ass windbag. Sorry - LYING fat windbag.

As Donavan is a Chicago native, and did so much for Philly while being so reviled for doing it, I hereby dub him "Philly's Obama".

  • In reply to MB30SD:

Here's my reason for drafting up.

The draft as a whole is a lifeline to teams that are rebuilding or for teams like the Bears who are bordering on rebuilding. Under favorable circumstances the draft is used to restock talent lost through free agency and retirement. Normally blockbuster trades like the one with Cutler last year only occur in the NFL when the player being traded for is the final piece of the puzzle to a championship run or when the team is so bad that a monumental move is required to bring on a franchise player. Unfortunately we were duped into thinking that JC was the final piece. WRONG. Having said that we are still looking for the final pieces for our O-line and Secondary. Trading up will not accomplish this but it will help us get a quality player in a deep draft that very well could make a difference next year if not this year. I look at trading up as a lesser or two evils and waiting until the third round in this years draft could be the difference in making the playoffs or not. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  • In reply to MB30SD:

IF you we do trade up.. do you know how tempting it will be to just give our second round to Denver?

  • In reply to Bears85Sweetness23:

A no-brainer man, best receiver in the nfl arguably ...

  • I... Knew.. I.. Could do... Something.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank the Newports.

  • Chicago lost the Olympics and Alex Brown...

    Gained Lady Gaga and Lollapalooza...

I think I'll stick with Jethro Tull on the 20th of June.

  • Shit Doc. I gots no propensity for music, cept listening to it I guess.

Between the wife and kid, work, and a bunch of physical pursuits, I aint gots no time for much else. But thank you very much for the support my man.

  • Blogfather show us mercy with a new thread. Think of BF #1 and his dial up. It must take him half a day just to load this page right now. That is dedication. Hardcoreness. You are defintely top ten in my book BF.

Is this like that experiment in Cali in the 70's with the group divided into guards and prisoners to see what we do if you just leave us to ur own devices? Will we turn on eachother? I think you see that after some early skirmishes, we self policed and united. Are we not worthy? BLOGFATHERRRRR!!! KHAN!!!!!!!!!!

  • My family and I live just down the road from Central Point in Medford, but the economy sucks so bad that I drive 230 miles to work in Salem during the week.

I haven't frozen my ass off in Soldiers Field in 26 years. I dream of going back and taking my kids. They're both Bears fans though they were born in California.

  • I have you now Doc. I get that. I didn't seek out the Bears or Walter, they just kept coming in waves, like I was a fan or whatever in a previous life. It doesn't have to make sense, I like that. Because life doesn't.
